2023.06.05 14:55 falling-faintly TCO for a new or 2-3 yr old car vs a $10k car

I have been thinking about the cost breakdowns I see online for new vs used cars and they typically always compare brand new cars to used cars that are a couple years old.
In todays market this means vehicles that are let’s say $30,000 to $60,000 if you are not buying something luxury.
Why do we never see included in this comparison cars that are much older but still solid and how would that compare?
As an example, pre covid you could get a good Corolla for 5-10,000 $. Now it would probably be more like 10-15. But still if you bought one around 10,000 with say 150,000 on the odo I can guarantee the maintenance would work out to way less than a $500 monthly payment. Insurance is less and you also don’t need to get every scratch that gets put into it fixed either. Gas may be a bit more expensive but the difference in price buys a lot of gas.
What am I missing here and how is this not the most frugal option?

2023.06.05 14:50 sunbuddy86 American Driver

Hello! I will be visiting in August during the fringe. My spouse desires a day trip to the Highlands. I have looked at tours and given the price, time tables, and lack of flexibility am contemplating hiring a car for a day trip. While I am a capable driver, having driven in every major city in the USA, my spouse is a nervous person who tends to panic whenever he is a passenger in a car and this, in turns makes me anxious (with the shouting and the foot stomping). My concern is driving from the train station (Waverly) within the city on our way out of town. I know that it will be crazy crowded and this will be my first time driving in Europe. Would you recommend hiring the car from the airport as opposed to the train station to avoid the city center all together?

Perfect Drone Landing - can you find the dirty spot I missed? 48MP
Landed my DJI mini3pro and saw a nice angle.. snapped a couple raws and edited them a little. 48MP helped me find a dirty spot I missed during the car wash. Can you find it? The XFORCE looks great.

2023.06.05 14:46 coopersushi specifically asked for my hair to be golden and NOT ashy- then she made my hair look GREY and charged $245 for a color. should i request a refund?

here are pictures before and after, plus the inspiration picture i showed her: https://imgur.com/a/TbDnWlo
TLDR: - told receptionist to make sure she booked me for enough time with my stylist for back-to-back foils for bleach because i have long hair and last time it took hours - i asked stylist to make my hair golden and NOT ASHY - she does my hair. she says there wasn’t enough time for bleach and to “give her a heads up next time” so she just put a color in my hair. charged $245 for color and asked for a tip - my hair looks further away from the inspiration picture than when i came in. my hair was already golden when i came in. she made it look ashy and grey. it’s the exact opposite of what i wanted. she books me for 2 weeks later for the actual bleaching session i originally wanted…
my hair was originally dark brown and i’m in the process of going blonde. my first session with this stylist took about 6 hours of back-to-back foils of bleach because my hair is so long.
it’s been a month so i scheduled the next session. i tried to communicate with the receptionist that i have long hair and last time we did back-to-back foils of bleach. i even asked if she was sure there was enough time because i was there for hours last time. “yes, there’s definitely enough time”
i show up the the appointment at 11:00am thinking i will be there for 6 hours getting another bleach session to go even lighter. i show the inspo picture. i say “i want it to be golden- i DON’T want it to be ashy”. 2 stylists look at the inspo pic- one of them even says to her “wow it looks like she has NO toner in there at all”
they put me in the chair. they talk to each other in the background about lightening my hair for 15 minutes and doing a “pre-toner” and keeping the warmth. i think everything’s fine. after 1 hour and a half they start blow-drying my hair. no foils were done. no bleach was done. i was like “that’s weird, how am i done already”
i look in the mirror. i see my hair is GREY. ashy. it already looked golden before i came into the appointment- and they did the OPPOSITE of what i wanted. it looks even darker then when i came in. my hair looked more like the inspo picture BEFORE.
i literally want to cry. they ask to take pictures for their instagram and i let them. the stylist says “next time you have to give me a heads up before you come in because to get you lighter it would take HOURS”. i’m so confused because i already told receptionist it would take hours of back to back foils and i asked the receptionist to make sure there was enough time. the stylist said “we just did a color today so it shouldn’t be too much”.
i want to cry in the salon but i’m thinking “okay it’s just color- it shouldn’t be too much maybe $80”. then they said $245. she asks for the tip so i tip her 15% on the ipad. i book an appointment with her for two weeks for the ACTUAL bleaching session i wanted. i go cry in my car because now i have ugly grey hair for 2 weeks and wasted nearly $300 for hair that i hate and think is ugly.
i feel scammed almost because she could’ve just told me “sorry we don’t have time today, can you come in 2 weeks?” but instead she put color in my hair that i DIDNT want and made my hair look the OPPOSITE of what i wanted

2023.06.05 14:42 ARCPrintIndia Bulk Water Bottle Printing: Unleashing Brand Creativity and Promotional Power

Bulk Water Bottle Printing: Unleashing Brand Creativity and Promotional Power

Introduction:

In today's competitive market, businesses are constantly seeking innovative ways to promote their brand and connect with their target audience. Bulk water bottle printing has emerged as a powerful promotional tool, allowing companies to showcase their logo, message, or design on customized water bottles. With professional bottle printing services, businesses can elevate their marketing efforts and create a lasting impression on consumers. In this blog, we will explore the benefits of bulk water bottle printing, the process involved, and the impact it can have on brand visibility and consumer engagement.

Bulk coffee mug printing
  • The Power of Customized Water Bottle Printing:
Customized water bottle printing offers a unique opportunity to transform a simple beverage container into a walking advertisement. By imprinting logos, taglines, and artwork onto water bottles, businesses can effectively promote their brand and engage with a wide audience. Personalized water bottles not only serve as functional accessories but also provide a constant reminder of the brand, helping to build brand recognition and recall.
  • Benefits of Bulk Water Bottle Printing:
a. Brand Visibility: Customized water bottles act as portable billboards, taking the brand message wherever they go. Whether at the gym, office, or outdoor events, these bottles draw attention and create brand awareness among potential customers. Every time someone uses a branded water bottle, it reinforces the brand and increases visibility.
b. Targeted Marketing: Bulk water bottle printing allows businesses to tailor their message to specific target audiences. Whether it's a promotional campaign, event, or trade show, customized water bottles can be designed to resonate with the intended recipients, ensuring a more personalized and impactful marketing approach.
c. Cost-Effective Promotion: Compared to traditional advertising methods, bulk water bottle printing offers a cost-effective solution for brand promotion. Printing services can be obtained at reasonable prices, especially when ordering in large quantities. Customized water bottles also have a longer lifespan compared to other promotional items, providing extended exposure for the brand.
  • The Process of Bulk Water Bottle Printing:
a. Design: The first step in bulk water bottle printing is creating a compelling design. Businesses can work with graphic designers to develop an eye-catching design that aligns with their brand identity and marketing goals. The design should be visually appealing, legible, and representative of the brand's personality.
b. Material Selection: Businesses can choose from a variety of water bottle materials, including plastic, stainless steel, glass, or aluminum. Each material has its own unique properties, and the choice depends on factors such as budget, target audience, and brand image.
c. Printing Techniques: Professional bottle printing services offer various printing techniques, including screen printing, pad printing, or digital printing. These techniques ensure high-quality and durable imprints on the water bottles, maintaining the design's integrity even after multiple uses and washes.
d. Quality Assurance: Reputable printing services conduct thorough quality checks to ensure that the final product meets the client's expectations. This includes verifying the accuracy of the design, color consistency, and overall print quality.
  • The Impact of Bulk Water Bottle Printing:
a. Brand Recognition: Customized water bottles with well-designed branding elements increase brand recognition. As people see the brand's logo or message on the water bottles, it becomes ingrained in their memory, making it easier to recall and associate with the brand.
b. Consumer Engagement: Personalized water bottles create a connection between the brand and the consumer. By offering these bottles as promotional items or gifts, businesses can engage customers and build loyalty. Consumers appreciate useful and eco-friendly products, which in turn strengthens their relationship with the brand.
c. Environmental Responsibility: Bulk water bottle printing promotes sustainability by encouraging the use of reusable bottles instead of single-use plastics. This aligns with consumers' growing concern for the environment, allowing businesses to position themselves as responsible and eco-conscious brands.

Conclusion:

Bulk water bottle printing provides businesses with a unique opportunity to unleash their brand's creativity and promotional power. By utilizing professional bottle printing services, companies can create personalized water bottles that increase brand visibility, engage consumers, and promote environmental sustainability. Through well-designed imprints and targeted marketing strategies, customized water bottles act as mobile advertisements, leaving a lasting impression on potential customers. Embrace the potential of bulk water bottle printing to elevate your brand and stand out in the competitive marketplace.

2023.06.05 14:35 DryCantaloupe1704 “Certified” preowned car with major issues

I recently (less than 2 months ago) bought 3 Sunnys from the Certified Preowned department for my company, and recently took one of the cars back for some noise complaints and got back a 4000 dirham bill for repairs and they’re claiming nothing included is on warranty. The sales agent assured me the cars are clean and well taken care of beforehand and I didn’t mind paying a premium price knowing it’s backed by the agency.
Is there anything I can do to raise this issue against them? The price is easily 15-20% higher than market price for the same specs, but I didn’t mind as I thought the warranty would cover everything and not just the engine.
Car has been driven for less than a month and a half, and less than 3000 KM. I honestly feel cheated and I’m not going to let this go.
How can a “certified” car breakdown before even a quarter of the way to its first minor service and not be considered a scam?

2023.06.05 14:28 Designer_Media_NW Struggling to Sell a Cheap Car?! What's going on!?

As a 30 year old car enthusiast, I bought and sold countless cars - typically, if you price it below average, it's gone within a week. But 2023, I can't seem to get interest on what I'd deem an absolute bargain!
I've been trying to sell a Kia Sportage (2007) Diesel with under 140k for £1500~
The car is by no means showroom - but has had a bit of work in the last 3 months and drives perfect. It would make a brilliant cheap family car, tip run motor or even budget offroader / camper (4WD). No doubt if I was selling it pre-Covid, it'd have been gone first day.
Had it advertised on Gumtree and eBay for over 2 weeks and I have had 1 call - which didn't transpire to anything. Is it really that bad of a market?!

2023.06.05 14:27 Hot_Stick_1040 Advice needed

Hi all! I’m buying a new car because our beloved Volvo died and it’s very likely going to be a forester. I’ve visited local dealerships, checked online on all the platforms and driven to the nearest large city twice to see/test some. I’ve got two really good options right now and wanted to get some input. I’m doing all the appropriate steps to check history and get indirections done so it’s more of a forester generation question.
First one is a 2017 touring at a dealership with blind spot detection, all the bells and whistles etc. price and kms are right so I’m planning to go see in person but it seems like a fine option that fits my budget and wish /want list.
Other one is a private sale of a 2007 forester that we almost put an offer on yesterday. One owner, regularly serviced, very lol kms, fantastic visibility, huge moon roof, drove great. Price is half of the new one and we’d hope to barter them down a bit more. I’ve been checking reviews and this 2007 really does seem like a ringer that could last for years and we could maybe even sell to our kids. I like that it has just an automatic transmission (vs CVT), less fiddle faddle (I’m old school - first car I drive was my moms 1981 Honda civic hatchback with manual transmission) and we can always install an updated interface to charge our phones etc.
My only worry is that because it’s older I’ll end up with some kind of unfixable random problem (our Volvo has some kind of weird electronic problem with the crank shaft sensor that nobody can fix) - defs don’t need two mid 2000s cars with ECU/TCU problems.
Should I get the fancy new one that’s 10 years newer or the classic reliable 07?

2023.06.05 14:27 SkwrlTail When Good Intentions Meet Bad Guests

Ever have one of those nights where your faith in humanity takes a hit?
Gentle readers, tonight we shall speak of helping your fellow human being. To give what you can so that another may breathe easier. To live selflessly, with gratitude your only reward.
And also the absolute crushing feeling when it's thrown in your face.
I generally try to believe the best in people. That we're all just trying to muddle our way through life, and that we all want to be good. Unfortunately, after *mumble* years on this rock, I've learned that some people just suck. Fortunately, unicorns are still pretty danged awesome, and so Buttercup is in her usual spot by the coffee station.
Our story begins when a gentleman and his lady friend coming in the door. The Sketchiness Detector starts clicking almost immediately. They've definitely got the vibe, and there's a noticable smell of weed. They want a room, how much, can you do better than that on the rate, standard questions all. But they're trying to work in the "we're checking in after midnight so it's really Thursday night" trick to finagle two nights for the price of one. Your humble narrator is not falling for this, and makes sure to specify multiple times that this is for check-out at noon. No, not four pm, where the heck are you people even getting that?
Their cards decline. The first one is one of those prepaid gift cards, which our system will not accept, the second just declines, and the third one was them trying to sneak the gift card in again without my noticing. Classy.
As much as I would love to sell the room, I breathe a sigh of relief when they leave. But they came back, this time coaxing along a friend.
The new person is a fresh-faced college kid, looking a trifle uncertain about the whole thing. I can see the signs of a young religious kid, wanting to do the righteous thing and help a homeless couple not have to sleep on the streets. He started out giving them a ride, but now they're asking for him to pay for the room. Presumably there is a promise to pay him later, but the look on his face says "I'm about to be scammed, aren't I?"
I probably should have refused service, but they'd have just gone somewhere else. I sigh, and explain to the young man the rates, check-out times, and everything to make sure there is no confusion. He nods and hands over his card. The card is run, the paperwork signed, and all three go up to the room.
A short time later, he comes back down with a defeated look, "Is it possible to extend that room another night...?" "It is. You're certain?" "Yeah..." He does not sound very certain, but I make the changes. He heads out for the night.
Of course the guests, despite their sketchy appearance, were perfectly well-behaved and haha nope.
There was a lot of screaming. First at each other, then at staff when they were told to knock it off. The room was trashed, though thankfully nothing that required the hapless Samaritan to pay a damage charge. I wasn't there for the full experience, but they got kicked out, caused an even bigger ruckus, and eventually left the property in the back of a police car. They were rather firmly added to our Do Not Rent list.
So in conclusion, while it is fine and good to help those in need, sometimes it is good to examine the situation closely. I want to reiterate my belief that most people are good and kind and honest, but it's the ones that aren't that spoil it for everyone else. Take a moment to say good night to Buttercup, and have a wonderful day.
Teal deer: sketchy couple convince someone to get them a room, leave in a police car.

2023.06.05 14:20 coopersushi specifically asked for my hair to be golden and NOT ashy- then she made my hair look GREY and charged $245 for a color. should i request a refund?

here are pictures before and after, plus the inspiration picture i showed her: https://imgur.com/a/TbDnWlo

2023.06.05 14:19 kc522 Actually not bummed payments are starting

Not sure how else to title this but part of me is excited to see what payments restarting does to inflation and housing prices/car prices. Millions of buyers will suddenly have less income available for purchases so there will most certainly be a ripple through the economy.

2023.06.05 14:18 Electrical-Regular51 Car insurance mark up

Need some here. In 2020 I had an accident in Michigan hitting ice with bad tires and slid in a ditch, car was totaled. At that time I had progressive, of course paid my part etc, car was totaled and I had warranties so everything was handled there. From the accident I went from 140/month to $185 per month. Totally makes sense for the mark up, but of course I wanted to search for other insurances to see if I could find a better rate. This is where the issue begins. I get travelers insurance, tell them all of my history, get the rate and it was at $138/ month. This was last year. My policy ends July 29th of next month and to my surprise I get a bill mailed to me and on the app for $1,200. I call customer service of course and the lovely foreign customer service agent told me that it’s a bill due to an incident in 2020. I of course tell her I did not insure through their company in 2020. She tells me it’s because a report was ran that showed the incident, and the $1,200 is the prorated cost of what my monthly premium would have been if their report had my accident. What the heck is going on here? Even when I told her how bonkers it is for me sign for a price, then a month before the policy ends get a bill with what she calls an agents “misquote”? I told her I’d investigate further and reach out. The bill isn’t due until June 29th. Does anyone have experience with this? From talking to friends (who aren’t in car insurance) they said it’s a possibility of a sleezy agent just pushing policies through, but with me being transparent at signing with all background of having a car and them also doing their background then hitting me this bill is insane. Please any advice or counsel! #thenorthremebers

2023.06.05 14:17 northshore21 Looking for the best compromise for two people opposite tastes

Any suggestions are appreciated!
We're in our 50s, kids are adults with their own cars. My husband would like to see me in a "nice car" but I'm looking for something he'd be happy with too. He likes cars with power (V8s); he's a big/tall guy. Generally speaking we're part of the last owners club and drive cars until the very end.
Location: Northeast USA
Price range: under $25k usd if possible
Lease or Buy: Buy or Lease
New or used: Used
Type of vehicle: Luxury-ish but not necessary, maybe SUVs, convertibles
Must haves: Reliability and longevity, not crazy insurance payments is important to me. I'm not looking for expensive repairs.
Desired transmission (auto/manual, etc): Auto
Intended use: Daily use, occasionally long drives in potentially snowy conditions with salt on the roads.
Vehicles you've already considered: pretty open but looking at car rental car sales (Budget, Enterprise, Avis, etc)
Is this your 1st vehicle: No
Current vehicles. 07 Honda Pilot, 09 Chrysler 300C? 300S?, it's the one with Hemi?
Do you need a Warranty: not necessary
Can you do Minor work on your own vehicle: (fluids, alternator, battery, brake pads etc): Yes, but we're likely going to pay someone
Can you do Major work on your own vehicle: (engine and transmission, timing belt/chains, body work, suspension etc ): No
Additional Notes: I love my Honda Pilot but he generally complains about the car not having enough power. I plan on keeping the Pilot for his local Home Depot trips so he's not ruining my "new" car.
