This post is to share my experience pursuing a hobby game development project over the past year and hopefully to hear from other hobby game devs about their experiences. I get the sense there are a lot of hobby devs lurking here so figured it would be okay to post.
Relevant Experience
My relevant work experience that applied to game dev is primarily programming and project management. In the past, I've also done quite a bit of game modding and even tried Unity a few years ago with a friend but he ultimately wasn't interested enough so we abandoned the project.
Original Goal
At first I was just playing with a project for fun to see what I could make. After a short time, I decided I wanted to try and complete a full game that I would be proud of. I had a dream of it being worthy to put on steam for a few dollars. I had no expectations that the game would be successful, or that it would be much good.
I didn't want to spend any money on the game. The most valuable asset was my time of which I ended up putting in something in the range of 500-1000 hours. When I originally scoped the game, I planned for something that would take 15-30 mins to play, would take less than a year part time to finish, and felt otherwise "complete" to me. Not very specific, I know, but it's a hobby and I primarily wanted to learn, have fun and see if I could make something half decent.
Game Concept
Like everyone else, I wanted to combine 2 things I liked. In my case it was Kerbal Space Program and A Short Hike. Yes, an odd couple for sure. I wanted to make a 3D game with decently complex orbital mechanics, but keep it simple and small enough to just hop in and play. I toyed with writing a story, but ultimately scrapped it when I realized it would take too long and I just wasn't good at that kind of thing.
I stuck with Unity 3D and just used several free or cheap assets. I kept an eye out for the unity humble bundles and asset sales too.
Enjoyment
I had a lot of fun learning and implementing orbital mechanics and most of the game features (yep, I'm an engineer at heart). It was also fun watching GDC videos and getting inspired. I found most of the process satisfying, but even when I didn't, I made an effort to keep a clear task list and try to check off at least 1 task whenever I had time to sit down and do something.
Collaboration
I know that I prefer working with people more than working alone, but it's hard to find a match. There are so many unrealistic posts on INAT looking to start large groups! I wanted to keep it small (2-3) but never found a gamedev partner. I suspect part of the reason is my game concept is kind of niche and not very inspiring. I also recognize that most people don't want to work on someone else's game.
That being said, I still found several good contributors who ultimately helped a great deal with specific assets. The primary 3D models, music and some of the art came from several different people I met via INAT and a previous game jam.
When looking for collaboration, it's hard to find someone doing it for a hobby but having enough experience to be productive. I wanted to find someone who could help with level design and general art style, but didn't really know how to look for that specifically. I think I could have paid a 3D designer to make a nice world for me, but didn't want to spend the money or time looking and decided my cheap/free asset compilation was good enough for me. Also, there are so many good asset packs out there for a small investment.
When looking for music, there were TONS of free offers. Seems like the exact opposite of looking for a 3D modeler or game artist. However, during the process, several of them ghosted me. Thankfully, one came through and did an amazing job!
None of this surprised me, except for the musician/composer availability. If you want something good you have to pay for it, just like most things in life. And a lot of hobby offers are people trying game dev out for the first time who likely won't commit to even their own project for very long.
Keeping expectations in check
Despite committing to this as a hobby, and not intending to make any money, it was and still remains difficult to keep my dreams in check. I know my game is barely "high school project" level but it was fun to fantasize about what it COULD be if I had the time and money to really make it a proper game. Honestly, that was a lot of the fun of the project itself, just thinking about things that it might be. I guess you can't really change what you desire, but you can choose what to work on.
Interesting Challenge
The primary challenge that was specific to my game was that I picked a decently complex game mechanic and tried to simplify it as much as I could. Orbital mechanics is tough! Most people have no intuitive sense of how to travel in space. Unless you've already played something like Kerbal Space Program or some other space sim, orbits and ship controls are very counter intuitive. This was one challenge that I really enjoyed! I think I ended up with an okay solution using world space controls. Yeah, it's still tricky and could be improved a lot, but it was FUN working on what I felt was a relatively unique problem.
Scope revision/cutting
I was as ruthless as I could be with scope. I cut story elements, cut the size of the game (planets/moons/NPCs), cut the mission content, cut game features. Kept it as small as I could while still being interesting and fun (for me), and something I could polish. Despite trying to trim it down, there is still a lot missing. Mostly the audio and general polish (animations, effects, etc).
Learning vs Experimenting vs Implementing
There are tons of free good resources out there. But the most helpful thing to me was my past programming and project management experience. It wasn't too hard to pick up new tools, read the documentation, and figure things out. Most of the time, I was able to guess at how complex and time consuming various features would be after a quick skim through a tutorial or documentation.
There were many times when I had a feature in my head but I had to prototype it to figure things out. Deciding when something needed more thought vs testing was tricky. I had to go with my gut usually, and would iterate a few times. Think first, test out a bit, think again, test again... until I had something that worked and I fully understood the feature I really wanted to implement. Sometimes after going down the path a little bit I would realize it would conflict with something else or just would be too costly and decide to cut it instead.
It wasn't too hard to tell when I was just spinning my wheels and not being effective. Tweaking random scripts and parameters with no real task in mind. Wasting time on reddit/youtube. I was most effective when I had planned out specific tasks with clear ideas on how to implement them. If I have any advice at all, it would be spend more time on thinking through the game, the mechanic, and your task list.
The various stages were all necessary for any complex feature for me. Unless it's a simple feature where you already have a solution ready to go, I had to go through the learn/research -> experiment -> implement process.
Timeline
Setting a deadline and sticking to it helped me. Despite this being a hobby, I still wanted to complete something, so I tried to set various deadlines and only move them if I had a good reason. I joined a month long (game jam) and this provided a great incentive to work as much as I could in a set time, and got some good feedback in the process. I still overshot my original target, but it was intentional in that I chose to spend time on other things (family), and to adjust the scope of the game.
Sharing & Feedback
Just like a lot of others, I found it was very hard to get meaningful feedback. I still have yet to sit down with family and friends to have them play it through and record some findings.
Fellow game devs are usually too nice. Also, it was a free itch-hosted web game, so I think everyone just adjusts their expectations accordingly. I often gave the caveat that this is "just a hobby". I'm sure if I put this on steam for money it would very get demolished, if it got any reviews at all.
One thing I would recommend is if you're doing a hobby game and posting to itch, make it WebGL. Very few people want to download a game to play it, even for Jams.
"Marketing" (I didn't.)
I had no marketing goals other than trying to share it for feedback and enjoyment. The only thing I did was share on reddit and the most useful subreddit I found was WebGames. While I would love to post on KerbalSpaceProgram it's against their rules. Maybe I'll do a paid reddit ad for some relevant subs just to try that out.
Creativity (Or lack there of...)
I think the biggest thing missing from my game is that is has no soul. It doesn't evoke any feelings when being played. It's just a small toy, fun to tinker with for a bit, but it has no story and no real immersive environment. The only point of the game is to learn how to fly. I know my limitations though, I'm good at math and programming, and definitely not good at story design, art, or game design in general. I hadn't set any goals around creativity specifically, but it was something I realized that I most wanted to improve upon. When fantasizing about the game, it wasn't usually about specific features or content, it was about what it would feel like to play it. I have no idea how to translate that into a task list 😊!
What next?
I still have some things remaining to do in my current game. Audio effects, maybe some more scene liveliness (trees waving, NPC's reacting, etc.). Once I'm done with that, I'll be interested in looking for projects to collaborate on, maybe some game jams. At the end of the day, I proved to myself I can make something, and that I now understand the full scope of game dev better. I learned a heck of a lot on the way!

We’re enamored with glamor and success, but we’re quietly jealous of the folks who live simple lives and don’t crave anything more. Italians do a great job with this. It only takes a day or two in Italy to realize everyone is content, relaxed, and grateful. They’re not lazy, but they’re not obsessed with growth. They work hard to create a nice life for themselves and when they do, they sit back, relax, and enjoy it. Instead of toiling to get to the top, they enjoy the quiet satisfaction of a simple and sustainable lifestyle. The Antiche Terre Tuscolane vineyard in the town of Frascati embodies this philosophy better than anything else. Thirty minutes outside of Rome, nestled on the side of a volcano, Frascati is a small town with everything it needs and nothing more. There’s a small but vibrant downtown with shops, restaurants, friendly pedestrians, and a lovely view of Rome in the distance. The vineyard is a short drive from the center of town and is no bigger than a football field. They make small batches of 3 different wines each year, and olive trees surround the grapes to keep the bugs away. They create just enough olive oil every year for the family living on the vineyard and their friends down the road. The home on the property is 300 years old and hasn’t been renovated since the day they laid the last brick. The same family has been living in the home and cultivating the vineyard for generations, and they only make enough wine to cover the costs of the business and provide themselves with a modest lifestyle. They have no expansion plans, social media growth strategies, branding exercises, or e-commerce schemes in the works. They have no desire to continue growing their business or one-up their neighbors making wine down the street. They make great wine, enjoy time with friends and family, and that’s it. --

I have a 3 story 130 year old house that had ducting installed probably back in the 70s with what looks like maybe asbestos tape. The HVAC system in the house works well, but it doesn’t extend to the attic which is probably 600 of my 3K sq ft. It gets very hot and cold up there so I’d like to install heating/cooling but don’t want to spend more than a few thousand dollars doing it.
I’ve looked into the Mr Cool DIY mini splits where you just drill a 3.25” hole through your wall and install the inside and outside units separately with preloaded refrigerated lines with the units costing around 2K or so. Seems like they work quite well and would be rather easy to install. But then I have piping running down the side of my house and have to install another ground unit, or pay someone to mount it on the roof.
Or, I have no idea what the cost accessibility is, but would be maybe be easier, cheaper to rip open the walls and extend the ducts up another 5 ft or so to the attic. I think there are at least 2 ducts that could go up the walls up there.
Maybe it’s not possible to tell with more details but just trying to get a general understanding of which route would be easier to go from anyone who has been in a similar situation.

I took my great nieces and nephew to the Dollar Tree for coloring books and colored pencils. The kids found some toys and I let them pick out a few each. I didn't realize that DT now carries $5 items. So we are checking out and the cashier timidly says, "Um this is $5, do you still want it?" I look at the item and see clearly the $5 sticker. I was a tad shocked but after quickly glancing at the kids I just shrugged and said, " Yes I will still buy it. I should have seen the price." Well each of the kids had picked out a $5 toy. And each one she nervously asked if I still wanted them. I said," Yes, please." After the 3rd toy I said, "Don't worry, I'm not going to get angry at you because I know you don't set the prices." She audibly exhaled and said "Thank you". The store had only been opened a few hours that morning and this incredibly sweet and visibly stressed young person looked as though she had already taken a weeks worth of abuse from customers that morning. I was able to get a heartfelt(?) laugh out of her when she asked if I wanted my receipt and I said, "No thank you, it might make me cry." But what really makes me cry is the way human beings are treated so horribly every single day. I often see the fear in the eyes of cashiers as I approach them because I am a middle aged white woman, and I worry a lot so I look angry I think. I constantly see people visibly exhale when they realize that I'm not an entitled a*****e. And I will apologize for being a stupid customer. Because I am. I mean the $5 price tags were big enough for my old eyes to see and still missed them. So just a shout out to everyone who has to deal with human trash everyday, my heart goes out to you and I hope you know are better humans than those who treat you terribly.

Have some time to finally write a trip review for Maui and the Big Island of Hawaii for my honeymoon in December 2022 for two weeks. Mid December and left for home on Christmas Day. This was our first time redeeming cc points for anything, so lots of trial and error and lessons learned.
My wife and I had gotten married in October and were actually not planning going on honeymoon until Spring 2023 until we researched further and managed to make December 2022 work in our favor. We started planning and booking reservations TWO months before our trip. We are very fortunate to have done it in that time span and managed to make almost everything work out.
IAD - DTW - SEA - OGG on Delta, First Class One way.

• First time using a lounge ever was at DTW. We had access to the Sky Club there. Pretty good food here, very roomy. No time to lounge in Seattle
  
• only I used points for this one way flight. Transferred 95,000 Amex points to Delta. Wife paid $958 before tax for hers through the Amex travel portal. I think she got a steal as I had written on a note somewhere that the cash cost was $1533 through Delta directly but cannot remember if that was the increased price after purchasing the tickets or at time of purchase, otherwise it would have been 1.61 CPP.
  
• Very nice service in first class. Abundant alcohol and food was very nice as well.
  

Maui
Day 1
Got to Maui late in the night and picked up our rental car, a Chevy Equinox, with Enterprise. Used my Hilton Aspire to get 7x points.
One night at Courtyard Marriott by the airport and paid $500.
It was the best we could do with our timing.
Day 2 - 6
Breakfast and lunch was by the food trucks near Costco. Shopping nearby for supplies for our vacation.
Meals (Costco food trucks):

• fresh coconut water

5 nights at the Grand Wailea - 440,000 HH points
Left to check into our resort the Grand Wailea in Wailea. Both the wife and I are Hilton Diamond members. Mine through the Hilton Aspire and she has status through actual stays. We booked these nights through her account and using all Hilton points. Each reward night was 110,000 points and we got the 5th night free. So 440,000 points total.
This resort was huge and immaculate. Words can describe how nice this place is and the customer service is SUPERB. Literally, the best we have ever experienced. You only have to see and experience it for yourself. My wife and I still talk weekly about the Grand Wailea.
We booked the Terrace View - 1 King Bed as the Standard Night Reward and upon arrival we were upgraded to the Deluxe Ocean View - 1 King Bed in the Molokini wing. Breathtaking views! Avg cash price so this room type is around ~$988 before taxes, fees so it comes to 0.89 CPP (if not including taxes, fees in the total). All meals, incidentals, shopping, and experiences were put onto my Hilton Aspire. Daily food and beverage credit was $25 each for the two of us and used usually at their divine but pricey breakfast buffet. No resort fees charged for booking with points which saved us hundreds of dollars. We immensely enjoyed ourselves at this resort and the lush, manicured surrounding area.
Meals:

• Lineage Maui. A favorite in the Wailea area
  
• Morimoto - Maui. Getting the sticky ribs is a must. As well as the ishi yaki buri bop. The guy won Iron Chef because of that, apparently
  
• Wolfgang Puck's Spago at the Four Seasons. Got the best seat in the house here. Get the "Poke" cones and Hawaiian snapper
  
• Mama's Fish House. Literally the hardest restaurant to get on Maui. Must reserve 4-6 months in advance. I called two months before our trip and managed to get a table for the two of us for late lunch. We arrived and we got the best seat in the house overlooking the water! Shout out to Mike for his superb service.
  
• Lahaina Grill. Another favorite for tourists and locals
  

Experiences: renting a cabana at the Grand Wailea pool, spa day at the Four Seasons with outdoor hale beachside, Wailea Beach, hiking Twin Falls, Baby Beach, Haleakala National Park
Day 7 - 8
Two nights at the Hotel Wailea, Relais & Chateaux using Amex FHR.
Paid total ~$3400 for the One bedroom, Luxury Suite, Ocean View. Unfortunately, no upgrade upon checking in. Hotel was sold out. Daily breakfast in the form of $30 credit per person and $100 food/bev credit given through the FHR. This stay triggered the $200 FHR credit for my wife's Amex Plat
Quiet, small resort, adults only. We enjoyed our stay here and loved our room. Bed was harder than what we were use to and it was far from the beach. Otherwise we loved the restaurant and the ability to "get away". One of the top hotels in Maui and all of Hawaii. Price tag to boot.
Meals:

• The Restaurant at Hotel Wailea. Another great dinner watching the sunset
  
• Leoda's Pie Shop. Any pie is great, get the banana cream though. Lines out the door

Big Island of Hawaii
Day 9 OGG - KOA (Big Island) round trip booked with Hawaiian Airlines. $106 for each of us before baggage fees. Booked direct using wife's Amex Plat.
Arrived to the Big Island and rented a Toyota Prius though Budget. Paid using Hilton Aspire.
Day 9 - 15
We booked the Hilton Waikoloa Village using all Hilton points, 6 nights in total with one night free. 350,000 pts in total used, 70,000 each night. Initially the standard room redemption was for the Palace Tower Resort View - 1 King Bed and was going for ~$540 a night before taxes/fees so CPP was 0.77. We realized even before our trip that the Palace Tower and old, needed a refresh, and was terribly far from the beach and the parking lot. We asked for an upgrade when we checked in and was given the option to move to the Makai Tower - Ocean View 1 King Bed for an additional $75 per night. We promptly took this offer. This room runs ~$694 per night before taxes/fees and if I subtract the $75 per night, I calculate this to be 0.88 CPP. The Makai tower was much better, our room overlooked the ocean and part of the resort. Frankly, Palace looked like dogshit. Daily F&B credit was $18 for each person. Incidentals again went onto my Hilton Aspire.
Towards the end of our stay, we stayed at the DoubleTree Hilo using 50,000 pts. Room rate was $308 before taxes/fess. CPP was 0.61. This was on the other side of the island and very far from Hilton Waikoloa so we decided to stay overnight there after hiking Volcanoes NP instead of driving to the west side in the middle of the night.
Meals:

• Brown's Beach House - at the Fairmont Orchid
  
• Kilauea Lodge
  
• Merriman's - Big Island
  

Experiences: Kauna'oa Beach, Mauna Kea sunset and stargazing (this is a must!!), Captain Cook monument snorkeling, Pu'uhonua o Honaunau National historical park, Punalu-u Black Sand Beach, Volcanoes National Park, Akaka Falls.
Trip home: OGG - LAX - IAD. United, First Class One way.

• Used 220,000 Chase UR rewards to redeem this flight for the both of us. Cash price of each ticket was ~$1485 before taxes/fess. CPP was 1.35
• Service was fine, food in 1st class was not very memorable.
• Did not have time to get into the Centurion lounge at LAX

Overall, an EXCELLENT trip. We were amazed and thrilled to do so much in two weeks and in such short notice. Again, only two months to plan once our dates were finalized. Between my wife and I, we have the Amex Plat and Gold, Hilton Honors and Aspire, and CFU, CSP. Each card strategically used during our trip. The FHR credit triggered for my wife, and my Aspire triggered the $250 resort credit. If I had to guess, we saved ~$15,000 or more by redeeming CC points. Hope this data point helps some of you trip planning, happy to answer any questions.

Have you seen these flavors? Any tips appreciated

I'm thinking I want to rebuild them before they fail catastrophically. I'll DIY a lot of things, but know when to call a professional and this type of work would be way beyond my abilities. So I'm here looking for a basic education about what to ask a contractor to do and what specifically to ask for so the new steps don't just settle and sink like the old ones. How should they reinforce and fill them to prevent that? Should they drill and pour some pier footings or something? I assume pinning to the house is a bad idea in case they ever did settle again....steps seem easier to fix than the house foundation. No stupid questions....are these past saving?
My front steps are slowly settling down and away from the house. The previous owner had someone put mortar in the ever-growing gaps to pass inspection when I bought the place in 2014 which is why the mortar lines are so wide uneven in some places. The additional settling after that was done that you can see in the pics has happened between then and now.
I'm not married to the idea of brick steps and think I would like a natural stone or even a rough edge cement look for the steps themselves, but would like to salvage and reuse some of the existing brick for along the outside wall so looking at it from the side the brick continues the way it does now. Also want to add some steps down to the down into the yard from the sidewalk at the very bottom of the steps down from the first section of sidewalk.
(North Alabama. Heavy clay soil with lots of loose limestone mixed in. House is single story on a tall crawlspace built on a bit of a slope but not extreme. This area is lousy with 1/2 assed work because of a housing boom and guys trying to hurry on to the next job....also most of the very skilled ones are working multimillion dollar McMansion builds so us commoners are left fighting for the scraps.)

Please help me find a specific cooking show that I’ve been searching for! It was three contestants and it was like cheap prices for ingredients and they started out with like one hundred dollars. And example of a round would but one ingredient is candy corn for one dollar the other is cream corn for tree dollars and then corn on the cob for five dollars. They did that for like 4 different ingredients for one round. The show had like three total rounds for the whole show. I don’t remember the host or what i saw it on but I only have Netflix, Hulu, discovery + and Disney, so it should only be on one of those. Thanks

Going on a bit of a rant because im bored and exhausted of this game lol. Dont expect people to read this
Defending AI: Defending AI is genuinely so broken, and it has been for the last few years. Its so broken to the point where pro players are coming off their defenders and letting the AI go for a tackle as its just so broken. It should be the opposite, i don’t understand why this is even a thing. And its what been 3/4 years running where 5 at the back seems to just be everyones go to when theyre losing games? Its been broken for ages, and EA refuse to even bat an eye to this, as usual with most of their issues. It leads me to my next point.
Attacking AI: This is the best way to summarise EA. They create AI for attackers to make runs. The attacking AI only makes straight runs as its an easy thing to code. Players want more variation in runs so lets let them control the AI themselves. It’s ridiculous. I mean you watch a real game of football, players make diagonal runs, dummy runs aswell as straight runs, yet in this game theyre only able to make straight runs. And this is the thing right, when youre trying to play the ball in the box, its like playing with statues. Why is my 95 rated Puskas with 99 Attack positioning sitting in the box and staring into the sky waiting for the ball to be gifted to him. Again, in real football, players are constantly moving in the box yet EA are too lazy to even bat an eye at this issue.
Keeper movement: Honestly, what is the actual point in keeper movement. Please name me a time where a keeper has basically ran to one post because a player is gonna shoot there. Its so stupid. I understand in set pieces because it is implemented in real life football, but in open play what is the need and what is the reasoning behind it. Just makes the game unnecessarily harder to play.
Optimisation: This game is so badly optimised and its so clear to see. Anyone who is unfortunately playing on PC like me and my friends probably have to deal with this constant lag, crashes, connection issues and bullshit like that. Im sick of it, soooo sick of it. And im not even gonna talk about my pc because i know its not my pc and i know im not the only one having this issue. You’d think a multi billion dollar company would invest in good game producers and pay them enough to put effort into the game, but clearly not.
I wanna talk about scripting but theres not even any point going into that, if youve read this much of me throwing a tantrum then thank you

Hello everyone. Are there any Tesla drivers in Louisville with windshield tint? Where did you go as I’ve called 2 places and they said no they don’t do it. I’m just about to get ready to DIY it since I can save several hundred dollars.

So as per my last post, I didn’t have an SM well I finally got one and she’s been hiring people like crazy. She doesn’t take feedback well and keeps saying that she’s been in retail management for 33 years but it’s her first time at dollar tree. She doesn’t do anything the corporate way and threatens to write us up if she sees us talking to the cashier. She wrote me up today and everyone who worked yesterday because we didn’t push enough freight, which is really confusing because I did around 6 Uboats by myself and the other ASM did around 2. I talked with my DM and he keeps defending her for everything and saying that she’s making less chaos. I feel bad for the cashiers who worked yesterday because they got wrote up for doing their jobs, she doesn’t want the cashiers leaving their registers to stock or anything that they normally would. I’m about to just quit because at this point it’s getting to be too much. She has cut my hours and another ASMs to give more hours to our new ASM which lives with her. We have no room for food because she wants us to only do that until it’s gone but with me being a cashier half the time, I can’t do what a Merch Manager is supposed to do. She takes 7 smoke breaks a day which last around 10 minutes each but gets mad at us for taking our breaks. It doesn’t help that she has unrealistic standards for everyone and thinks we can get a truck out in a day when I have to be MOD and every morning i open by myself so. it’s a confusing situation. I put in for my vacation and when i get back from it, I will probably quit because I start college again soon so

Yes I know. It’s no longer Halloween nor is it close to it. However i have a paranormal story that happened last Halloween. Let me share a bit of background. The year: 2022. It was Halloween and I was lucky enough to get a job at around the time of trick or treating. I was asked to immediately start work the next day. Place: Dollar tree. Now the location I work at is in a parking lot with other stores nearby and a very busy Main Street that leads out of the town I’m in. Across from it is a mall that is sadly dying. Now onto the story. One day I was scheduled to come in for a 4hr shift. 5-9 was my shift. Everything was normal. I was running register when people were waiting to cash out and doing recovery (basically grabbing items and putting them away) the time had hit around 7pm and I began restocking the stores mini soda coolers. Once I was done the time was around 8:55ish. About the normal time me and the assistant manager usually lock up. Nothing really happens during this time except for us counting down both our draws. After that we moved onto the safe and deposit count. We get through those pretty well and I sit down while I wait for the assistant manager to insert all the info into the computer. Time then was around 9:15. One set of lights had already shutoff. About 2-3 mins go by. And suddenly we hear a witches laugh. You know that, “keheheh” laugh? Yeah that one. Now no… this isn’t fiction. We were selling these little witch ornaments that made that noise. I say “what the heck?” In a confused tone and the Assistant Manager says that it’s weird. Now here’s the twist… no one was in the store besides us. The bigger twist? The decorations were motion activated. Spooky… some might say it’s a bug or something but let me say that they only did it once.

I check all my bags before I put them in my cart at Dollar Tree. I've taken several bags off the shelf lately, inspected the window and found them to have wet rot. One time I went to pick up a bag and my thumb poked right through the bag and got covered in nasty black mold (must compromise the integrity of the plastic somehow). Just now I was transferring to a ziploc for my ziploc tek and the new/just opened Savy Fare had a spot where the plastic broke and then a patch of black mold on the brick of rice inside corresponding to the break. Just wanted to share my experience. I'll be going back to using Aldi.
