Does anyone know which vinegar is best? The last few times i tried making it with 3 different types (white vinegar, rice vinegar, and apple cider) and none tasted like the specific kind i was trying to recreate (an ex coworker used to being it from some lady he knew). All the batches i made were a bit too acidic/harsh i guess? (Followed one of the main online recipes on google with 5 stars but the vinegar proportions seemed similar on a few others i browsed)
Now I've been getting it from another restaurant and it's usually more orange (probably soaked longer / color from chilli flakes- the old kind also had chilli flakes but was still green). Doesn't taste exactly the same as the old kind but still better than any batch I've tried to make so what did i do wrong?
Maybe add more water to dilute the vinegar (i think i tried that before and it was still bitter harsh) ? Or is there a better option like more salt or a difference in brands/ vinegar quality? See

2023.06.05 14:28 sonofabutch No game today, so let's remember a forgotten Yankee: Truck Hannah

The entirety of Harry "Truck" Hannah's major league career came with the New York Yankees -- all three years of it. But if you include his participation in the minors, he had a long career, beginning in 1909 with the Tacoma Tigers in the Northwestern League and ending in 1940 with the Memphis Chickasaws in the Southern Association. He is one of only a handful of players to have a hit in five different decades!
Of all the forgotten Yankee with memorable nicknames -- No Neck, Stanky the Yankee, Sailor Bob, Spud, Slow Joe, The Mummy, Birdie, Bump, and Grandma Johnny -- there's something to be said about the sublime elegance of a big, brawny catcher nicknamed Truck.
James Harrison Hannah Jr. was born 134 years ago today, on June 5, 1889, in what was then the Dakota Territory. (It would become the state of North Dakota about five months later.) By age 2, the family had moved to Seattle, Washington.
As a kid, he was called Harry, but by the time he was playing baseball, he was universally known as Truck. There are several stories as to how he got the nickname. Some said it had to do with his imposing size -- he stood 6'1" and weighed a solid 190 pounds -- and others because of the way he could block the plate as easily as a truck could block a street. Other sources say the nickname wasn't comparing him to a motor vehicle but to a horse, or rather a truck horse, as horses that pulled heavy wagons were called at the time. His daughter, Helen, said he got the nickname simply because he was "big and slow."
Another explanation, a little less colorful, was that Hannah paid the bills in the off-season by working as a truck driver!
Hall of Fame Umpire Billy Evans said Hannah was adept at the catcher's trick of distracting the batter with a steady stream of banter while behind the plate:
"Truck Hannah always has been an object of interest to me when catching. Aside from always doing a pretty good job receiving, he never failed to have a line of conversation that would make a bigger hit on the vaudeville circuit than some of the stuff used by some monologue artists. Hannah keeps up a continual chatter from the time the game starts. Of course, his conversation is largely directed at the batter, in the hope that his line of talk will take the mind of the batter from his work, the making of base hits. He seeks to keep the batter from concentrating, and from the many strikes slipped over by the New York pitchers, I would say there was merit in his system. Hannah's conversation is never objectionable. He usually has the batter laughing at some of his talk, rather than sore."
But Hannah used more than just banter to distract batters. As the pitch was being delivered, he would sometimes spit tobacco juice onto a player's shoes, toss pebbles onto the plate, or throw dirt at their hands on the bat!
Hannah got his start in professional baseball as a 20-year-old third baseman with the Tacoma Tigers in the Northwestern League. When the team needed an emergency catcher, Hannah was put behind the plate and stuck there for the rest of his career. Over the next five years he played for five different teams in four different leagues, until in 1914 finally catching on with the Sacramento Wolves in the Pacific Coast League. The PCL at the time was considered by some to be a third major league, or at least the minor league closest to major league competition, and Hannah was regarded as one of the best catchers in the league. He drew interest from several major league teams, including the Tigers, Phillies, and Browns. But it was the Yankees who finally acquired him, paying $4,000 to acquire his rights after he hit .292 in 569 at-bats in 1917.
Truck pulled into the Polo Grounds -- not Yankee Stadium, which wouldn't be built until 1923 -- as the foundation was being laid for a dynasty. Jacob Ruppert and Tillinghast Huston purchased the Yankees in 1915 and immediately set about reversing the fortunes of what had been for years one of the worst-run teams in the American League. The Yankees, as they became known in 1913, had only winning season in the last 10 years.
The new owners set about making changes, acquiring a number of valuable players: Wally Pipp, Home Run Baker, Ping Bodie, Aaron Ward, Urban Shocker, and previously forgotten Yankee Bob Shawkey.
After the 1917 season they made the biggest change of all, firing well-liked manager Bill Donovan and replacing him with former St. Louis Cardinals manager Miller Huggins, who over the next 11 years would lead the Yankees to six pennants and three World Series.
Huggins made another move, acquiring from the St. Louis Browns future Hall of Fame pitcher "Gettysburg Eddie" Plank and veteran second baseman Del Pratt. The latter would be a good player for the Yankees, hitting .295/.348/.394 (106 OPS+) over the next three seasons, but the 42-year-old Plank refused to report and retired instead. In return, the Yankees shipped out five players... including starting catcher Les Nunamaker, who had been with the Yankees for four seasons.
And so, needing a catcher to replace Nunamaker, the Yankees paid the Salt Lake City Bees $4,000 for Hannah. He was expected to battle 22-year-old Muddy Ruel to be the backup to the 25-year-old Roxy Walters, who had been Nunamaker's understudy since September 1915, but Ruel would be drafted into the U.S. Army and Walters broke his finger in an exhibition game 10 days before Opening Day. By the time Walters was ready to play again, Hannah was hitting .288/.432/.356 and had thrown out 19 out of 34 basestealers; over the rest of the season, he would maintain that pace to lead the league in CS% (55%) as well as in double plays as a catcher (16). His batting average would fade dramatically, however, dropping all the way to .220 by the end of the season, but he was still contributing with a .361 OBP in 312 plate appearances. Walters's bat never got started at all, and hitting just .199/.239/.236 in 205 plate appearances.
Technically a major league rookie when he joined the team, the 29-year-old Hannah was treated like a veteran from his four seasons in the well-respected Pacific Coast League. In addition, he was -- literally as well as figuratively, at 6'1" -- one of the few players on the team who could see eye-to-eye with the 6'2" Babe Ruth when he was acquired prior to the 1920 season. When Ruth got into squabbles with diminutive manager Miller Huggins, it was often Hannah's duty to keep the peace.
Yankee shortstop Roger Peckinpaugh, the Yankee captain from 1914 to 1921, described one such incident to long-time Yankee PR man Marty Appel in 1974:
"Once we were leaving Boston after a tough loss, and Babe was drunk, and he said he was gonna throw Huggins off the train! He was heading for his drawing room. On the way he stopped in the men’s room and punched this huge mirror. It fell into a million pieces. Me and Ernie Shore and Truck Hannah pulled him down to the ground and sat on him until he passed out. Truck — a big guy — puts him over his shoulder and moves him to the next car."
At the end of the season, the Yankees were happy enough with Hannah that they traded Roxy Walters to the Red Sox. For the next two years, the catching duties were almost evenly split between Hannah and Ruel, who was back from the Army with the end of World War I.
The "Muddy-Truck" tandem was colorfully named but disappointing, with Ruel hitting .255/.325/.306 (71 OPS+) in 560 PA and Hannah .243/.313/.317 (70 OPS+) in 553 PA. Catcher in those days was very much a defense-first position, and both had good gloves, but the Yankees (even with the newly acquired Babe Ruth having an 11.7 bWAR season) finished three games out of 1st in 1920.
Ruppert and Huston asked Huggins what the team needed to win, and his answer: a catcher.
At the end of the season, the Yankees sent Hannah back to the Pacific Coast League, and traded Ruel to the Red Sox for previously forgotten Yankee Wally Schang, the first in the long line of great Yankee catchers. In his five years with the Yankees, the switch-hitting Schang hit .297/.390/.406 (105 OPS+), and in the 1923 World Series -- the first of 27 won by the Yankees -- Schang played every inning of every game, went 7-for-22 (.318) with a double and three runs scored, and allowed just one stolen base.
Hannah would stay in the Pacific Coast League for the next 22 years as a player, coach, and manager. He had a great year with the Vernon Tigers in 1923, hitting .346 with 23 doubles and 6 home runs in 370 plate appearances. His final plate appearance came on May 19, 1940, when he was managing the Memphis Chicks. Two weeks shy of his 51st birthday, with both his catchers injured, Hannah caught both ends of a doubleheader and went 1-for-6.
Hannah retired from baseball two years later after his St. Paul Saints lost 15 games in a row -- 11 of them by one run! He said he couldn't sleep anymore, replaying every loss in his head over and over, second-guessing every decision he made as manager.
He retired to his ranch in Southern California, but remained active enough in the regional baseball scene that when the Los Angeles Angels played their first major league game in 1961, Hannah was selected to catch the ceremonial first pitch.
Truck Hannah died on April 27, 1982, five weeks shy of his 93rd birthday. His wife, Helen, died in October, a month before what would have been their 70th wedding anniversary.
Keep On Truckin':
Near the end of his career, Truck Hannah was interviewed about the rigors of being a catcher. He said during his 30 years in baseball he'd broken every finger on his right hand at least twice. "What the hell, it's all part of the game," he said. "It sure was fun while it lasted. Even with busted hands and fingers and everything else, I wouldn't have missed it for the world."

Post contents

I am an established Redditor. I've been on Reddit for 4 years, participated in numerous gift exchanges and even have loaned out money here myself years ago, just to help.
Here is my problem:
Unfortunately, my PayPal is at negative $425 and my Google Wallet Account is overdrawn by $100. I have secured a 6 month freelance work contract and I have a monthly allowance of that I receive in cash my from my father for doing a bit of work for his company. I'm also asking for the extra $25 to keep my bank account stable. It has less than $8 in it and I need a few basic items from the store that I've been going without for the time being simply because I cannot afford it.
Right now I'm at a standstill because I had to pay an ER visit and am in the middle of moving. As a result, I'm on a very tight budget and incoming monies are already allotted to other bills.
Now that I have enough money coming in, I would be forever grateful if someone could help me clear up my negative balances so that I can begin using them ASAP vs having to slowly pay them off, and being even tighter on cash.
I intend to payback in full by October 1st at the very latest with about 10-15% interest.
Xo, Faith

2023.06.05 13:50 SuperAngryGuy How Bruce Bugbee's ePAR has been rejected as an industrial standard.

Bruce Bugbee's far red work to date has been rejected as a new industrial standard. "PAR" has not been redefined and is still light from 400-700 nm only. "ePAR" as Bugbee defines it is 400-750 nm and it is not formally recognized in industry.
ePAR has to do with photosynthesis and when dealing with far red light and horticulture there are also other aspects to consider including photomorphogenesis, photoperiodism, far red optical characteristics of a leaf, far red LED efficacy, and far red fluorescence (we can use this to monitor photosynthesis rates in real time with a PAM fluorometer or a spectroradiometer).
Who makes up the definitions?
The DLC does and they work with ASABE and ANSI (who helps develop international standards):
Definitions related to horticulture are covered under ANSI/ASABE S640. These definitions costs $78 for you to see but GrowFlux has a simple write up here:
S640 far red light is defined as 700-800 nm and talks about "far red photon flux density" as a type of measurement which you will find with some light specs. Bugbee specifically wants to count 700-750 nm as PAR and call it ePAR (extended PAR).
This is the paper that Bugbee et al used to justify using far red as part of the definition of PAR:
This is the rebuttal after rejection:
What's the problem?
First as speculation, there's a lot of self-referencing and it's a small group that wants to change industry wide standards. That could create some push back for an entire industry. Changing or adding standards has a much greater burden of proof than normal peer review. It's not that Bugbee is wrong but it's a very tall hill to climb.
The DLC critiques:
There are issues about the blurple background light used in the above study. Do they throw off the results? You can see in his videos on far red where he is showing white rather than blurple.
Are these results linear? Are we getting the same results at 300 uMol/m2/sec as 1500 uMol/m2/sec?
There is a claim of far red photons being equal but the data clearly shows that this is not the case. 711 nm far red did not have the same results as 746 nm photons for photosynthesis and photomorphogenesis. Bugbee uses "integrated over" 700-750 nm response curve of photosynthetic carbon fixation for some results. Should he have done that?
Bugbee's far red light being equal claim is also not necessarily supported by others:
  • Far-red light enhances photochemical efficiency in a wavelength-dependent manner ---note, with far red light it's not necessarily greater photosynthesis as much as far red helps with greater photochemical efficiency. Unlike PAR light, most far red light intercepted by a leaf is not absorbed by a leaf, and leaves are highly reflective (maybe 45%) to far red light, with far red light also able to pass through leaves at a much greater rate than PAR light.
Bugbee et al. used far red LEDs that had a wide enough bandwidth to overlap into PAR (for the 711 nm LEDs) and to extend past 750 nm (for the 746 nm LEDs) in his study above with >750 nm having little photosynthetic capacity. This overlap has been criticized on methodological grounds. Bugbee lacked the laser diodes to do some of the studies. (note- far red LEDs tend to have a wider spectral width than shorter wavelength PAR LEDs).
Bugbee's response:
If "ePAR" is not added as a definition then LED grow light makers won't adapt far red LEDs due to it not counting in standardized PPF and PPE measurements which must only include 400-700 nm PAR light by definition. By definition of PAR, adding far red LEDs automatically lowers performance measurements which is bad for marketing.
400-700 nm PAR light itself also has an unequal photosynthetic response (particularly on the 400 nm side).
Bugbee also points out photomorphogenesis and how far red causes "significant stem, leaf, and/or petiole elongation, which will likely limit the maximum fraction of far-red photons to less than about 20% of the total photon flux for most crops". --(Far red causes extra elongation and we might not want this. What works for lettuce for bigger leaves from a photomorphogenesis perspective might not be the best for cannabis with elongated stems. Bugbee actually says 10-20% far red for cannabis on his videos).
We already know that there can be issues with too much red light and cannabis in some situations which can be cultivar specific. What does too much far red do? Foxtailling in the buds?:
BTW, Bugbee et al has found NIR (850 nm) LEDs, found in security cameras, delays flowering in cannabis and far red is known to delay flowering in other short day crops. The study uses a fairly high level of IR light but the result was significant:
There are still no credible yield efficacy claims for far red light and cannabis (except for a flawed master thesis). Claims are cheap and most people who talk about far red light have no hands on far red light experience and need to prove they are actually working with far red light when making any claim. This is a minimalist far red setup and includes how to measure far red light:
People should not be taking lettuce studies, which is a lower light vegetative leafy crop, and try applying them to cannabis, which is a very high lighting flowering crop.

2023.06.05 13:08 atmartin2016 AITA for telling my sister that she seems to be a single, married mom?

Hi THT, Morgan, and [insert lovely guest’s name here]! I’m a regular listener, and I need some help on this dilemma. A few months ago, I posted on AITA for telling my BIL to get and keep a job. Since creating that post, my BIL got into a car sales position - strictly commission, no base pay, but it’s income at least. However, due to my BIL’s 4-month-long unemployment stint during my sister’s pregnancy, that has left them behind on numerous bills. (My nephew was born about 6 weeks ago, happy and healthy, and he’s adorable as can be!) Due to this budget shortfall, my sister had to start working part-time two weeks after giving birth, and she went back full-time upon reaching the 6-week post-op milestone. In addition to her full time job, she’s applied for a part time serving gig a few nights a week. This is on top of taking both kids to and from daycare, making supper every night, doing all the housework, waking up if one of the kids cries overnight, and managing the family finances, among other things. Meanwhile, my BIL sleeps in, goes to work later in the morning, does very little around the house, watches TV and plays GTA for hours on end, and manages to skip diaper changes and laundry for the kids because my sister will do it.
This came to a head yesterday. I went to help them move some furniture around, and I briefly mentioned to my BIL that fast-food restaurants in our area of the US start at $15/hour, and he could maybe pick up shifts at night after his main job to help the family out. He scoffed at the idea, and the conversation ended. Later that night, my sister and I were talking, and I told her my concerns that she seems to be a “single, married mom” and that BIL seems more like a roommate. She immediately started defending him, saying “he makes sacrifices like I do! We’re a team!” The only sacrifice she could describe was their different work schedules. I then mentioned that one thing BIL could do to help the budget was to stop vaping (ESPECIALLY when he’s in the house, sitting next to the kids), and she said that she’s mad about his vaping in the house, but “we can’t afford for him to quit nicotine right now”, insinuating that his emotions would get more volatile and unpredictable. (He has a history of violence, like punching holes in doors.) I tried my best to explain that she’s doing great as a parent, and that I love and support her 100%, and then she quickly ended the conversation due to BIL blowing her phone up.
A few hours later, I texted her asking if she made it back home safely. She said “yes I did” with no punctuation or emojis, so I knew something was up. I replied with a cheery message along the lines of “okay, just checking! Love you! :)” and she replied “I love you too. I would like to address some things that have been bothering me though.” She then followed up with a 3-page-long text a few hours later (one that you have to tap/click on to expand into a full-page view). Here’s my best attempt at a summary of the text: 1) She thinks I am intolerant of her conservative views on politics, and she is mad that I’m trying to change her mind on things. 2) She thinks I’m racist against white people. (FYI: all people in this story are EXTREMELY Caucasian) 3) She accuses various things, such as Target, Minnesota, and the current US president, of trying to indoctrinate kids with “sexual intimacy” and “supporting surgical changes on children” by selling Pride merch. (FYI: I’m openly LGBTQ. I bought my niece and I matching Pride shirts a few years ago, with my sister’s permission, and she loved the idea. My niece calls me “Gay”, with encouragement from my sister and I, because “uncle” and my name are both harder to say for a 2 year old. I don’t know how she changed so quickly.) (FYI part 2: BIL has LOTS of Trump 2024 merch around their house, so let’s talk about indoctrinating.) 4) She follows up on her Pride merch comment by saying “if this kind of behavior is influenced around our kids then boundaries will need to be set.” 5) She accuses me of hypocrisy by calling out BIL’s work history when I have changed jobs frequently over the past 2 years since graduating college. 6) She is mad that I don’t appreciate everything that BIL does do. (Which is… what exactly?) 7) She says that “not all straight white men are horrible, and I wish you would understand that.”
I have reread her text a few times and keep finding more dogwhistles and other comments that she wouldn’t normally say. I can’t help but feel like BIL is influencing her. I don’t want to lose my relationship with my sister or her kids over this. So Reddit and THT listeners: AITA?

Michael left the hospital in a SUV shortly after 8 p.m. in a flurry of activity. His aides erected white scaffolding outside the emergency room entrance to block the view of photographers gathered outside.
2009 - Michael attended rehearsals
2013 - Jackson v AEG Trial day 24
No Jackson family is in court
Randy Phillips Testimony
Jackson direct
Brian Panish resumed questioning. He showed several instances where Randy Phillips said one thing in deposition, another while on the stand. Panish asked Phillips which answer was right. He answered:
"Do you want the truth or do you want what I testified?"
Panish asked Phillips if he knows the corporate structure of AEG Live. He said it was under AEG, but he doesn't know who exactly owns AEG. Panish showed a board meeting agenda on 5/26/09, in which they were to talk about Michael's tour
Panish played the interview Phillips gave Sky News saying AEG hired Dr. Murray. Phillips said he meant AEG hired the doc on behalf of Michael. Phillips said AEG's media person set up several interviews for him after Michael's death. Phillips said each interview was different, but the intention was to say AEG hired Dr. Murray on behalf of Michael. "It's called the truth."
Randy Phillips was asked about meetings with Conrad Murray at Michael Jackson's house. He confirmed Jackson's weight was discussed during at least one of the meetings. He was a bit unclear on dates, so Jackson's weight may have been discussed at two meetings. Panish tried to use a police report of an interview with Phillips and detectives to refresh his recollection
Randy Phillips (AEG Live CEO) said there were numerous inaccuracies in the report. Panish started to ask him to go through it methodically. "We don't need to do it line-by-line', interjected Judge Yvette Palazuelos. Phillips then keyed in on two areas he said were inaccurate.
Phillips said LAPD's detective made a mistake in the written police statement attributed to him. Phillips said he never told LAPD "Randy stated that Kenny got in Michael's face, at which time Dr. Murray admonished Randy..." "The police made a mistake," Phillips said. "He (detective) misconstrued what was said and made a mistake." Dr. Murray got in to and admonished Kenny Ortega and told him not to be an amateur doctor, Phillips said he told the police.
Phillips read one statement about a meeting at Jackson's home between himself, Conrad Murray and director Kenny Ortega. Report: Randy stated that Kenny got into Michael's face, at which time Dr. Murray admonished Randy, stating, "You are not a doctor. Butt out".
Phillips said the police made a mistake. "If you read it, it makes no sense," Phillips said.
Phillips keyed in on how the report mentioned Murray got in his face, when it more than likely was Kenny Ortega he admonished. "I believe the Los Angeles Police Department is a fine entity as I believe in this judicial system," Phillips explained.
Phillips pointed out another mistake in LAPD's report. It states Phillips/Gongaware produced 2 Michael Jackson tours but Phillips said he wasn't involved. Phillips also said the police report said he and Paul Gongaware worked with Jackson over the course of 16 years. Phillips said that was wrong - Gongaware worked with Jackson that long, but he hadn't. Those were the two inconsistencies Phillips pointed out in his police report. Interview apparently wasn't taped at request of AEG attorneys
As to Michael missing rehearsals, Phillips clarified:
"Michael was showing up to rehearsal, just not to enough of them, in Kenny's opinion"
Phillips remembers one phone call with Dr. Murray that lasted probably about 25 minutes. Phillips told Panish he'd know how many times he called Dr. Murray because the attorney subpoenaed the exec's phone records. Panish said he never subpoenaed any phone records, that it was LAPD that did. Phillips said he made an assumption. The only phone call Phillips remembers is the one that Dr. Murray called him on June 20, 2009
In his deposition, Phillips said Paul Gongaware never communicated to him about the email that AEG, not Michael, was paying Dr. Murray. Phillips said at the deposition it was the first time he ever saw Gongaware's email. Panish showed the email that was forwarded to Frank DiLeo and Phillips was cc'd containing the mention that AEG, not Michael, pays Dr. Murray. Phillips said he never received the email. Then, after being shown the email at deposition, Phillips said he didn't remember receiving it. On the stand today, Phillips said he received Gongaware's email. Panish grilled Phillips pointing out he changed his answer three times. Phillips said he answered the same thing, but with different qualifications. "Frankly, I don't remember reading Paul's email, I was more concerned about Kenny's email," Phillips said. At this point, most jurors seemed to be tuned out when Phillips didn't give straight answers
Panish showed an email dated 6/17/09 from Phillips to Dr. Tohme:
Kenny Ortega, Gongaware, DiLeo, his doctor named Conrad from Vegas and I had an intervention with him to get him to focus and come to rehearsals yesterday. Getting him fully engaged is difficult and the most pressing matter as we are only 20 days out from the first show
Phillips said it was not an intervention, but a meeting. He said it had nothing to do with drugs.
Panish asked the executive if Jackson had ever fired Tohme. "It's not a yes or no answer", he said, "The answer is yes but he kept in contact with him"
Phillips was asked about a lunch meeting he had with Jackson's former manager Tohme Tohme, at the Polo Lounge, about a month ago. AEG attorney, Marvin Putnam, was present too.
Panish: "And you were discussing his testimony in this case at the Polo Lounge with him?"
Phillips: "I wasn't"
Panish: "You know there were witnesses sitting around you? You know people took pictures of you?"
Phillips said he didn't remember exactly what was discussed.
Phillips:"I don't remember what I ate"
Panish: "I didn't ask you what you ate"
Phillips said the meeting had to do with the case Tohme filed against Jackson's estate with the state labor board for money he was never paid. Phillips was a witness.Panish said he would have a witness who could testify about what was discussed at the table later in the trial. Panish asked Phillips if he testified at Tohme's Labor Commission hearing to "try to help him out." Phillips said no. "I was completely impartial," Phillips said of testifying at the labor hearing. "I was an impartial witness." (After court, AEG attorney Marvin Putnam, who was at the lunch meeting, said it was standard for attorneys to interview witnesses before they testify. It remained unclear whether Tohme Tohme will testify during the Jackson vs AEG Live trial)

Panish: "Isn't it true, sir, that when Dr. Murray was hired no one was acting as Michael Jackson's personal manager?"
Phillips: "He had someone in that capacity. My understanding was Frank DiLeo was his manager"
Phillips said AEG advanced DiLeo $50,000 at MJ's direction.
Phillips said he didn't know anything about Dr. Tohme in January 09 other than he was a consultant for Colony Capital and repped Michael.
"With Michael Jackson and his advisers you needed a scorecard", testified Randy Phillips. Phillips said he was introduced to Tohme in a meeting at the Century City offices of Colony Capital, the investment firm that held the mortgage on Jackson's Neverland Ranch. It was AEG owner Phillip Anschutz's friendship with a Colony Capital partner that led to the firm's promotion of the planned 50 This Is It concerts. Phillips said Tohme was an adviser to Colony Capital who had no background in the music business and represented no other clients when he began working with the singer. Brian Panish asked Phillips what kind of doctor Tohme was, whether he was a physician or if he had a doctorate. Phillips said that although he had met this doctor 25 times, he never asked him
Randy Phillips was also asked about Tohme's $100k/mo. contract between him, AEG Live and Michael Jackson. Phillips said he could recall of only one other instance where AEG Live paid a fee for the artist's manager. He said it was a standard practice for Michael Jackson during his career. Phillips said Bon Jovi has a similar deal. Phillips said in Michael's career they always paid his personal manager.
Randy Phillips denied that he told Sharon Osbourne that AEG Live had kept all the money from ticket sales for This Is It. "That would be the most idiotic thing in the world" to say, Phillips said of the statement attributed to him in the Osbourne conversation.
Panish: "Did you talk to Sharon Osbourne about the show?"
Phillips: "No, not to the extent that Sharon is alluding to"
Phillips said he ran into Sharon at the lobby of their building. She asked how it was going, he said it's tough but we're going to get there. Phillips said the encounter with Sharon Osbourne was just a hi and bye. They never talked about ticket sales or anything else related to Michael
93% of the This Is It tickets sold were refunded, Phillips said. "7-8% people elected to hold the tickets as souvenirs." Out of $75 million in sales, AEG kept more than $5 million, which Phillips said they gave back to the estate.
Phillips testified it was a "miracle" that the singer showed up at a news conference in London to announce his comeback. Randy Phillips testified that Jackson was hung over, although in emails he says the singer was drunk. "The fact that the press conference even happened is a miracle," Phillips wrote to Jackson's manager.
Panish: "Was Mr. Jackson drunk?"
Phillips:"No, to the best of my knowledge no".
Panish: "Was he despondent?"
Panish produced an e-mail writted by Phillips to AEG President Tim Leiwicke the day of the news conference.
Phillips said:
Michael is locked in his room drunk and despondent. Tohme [another Jackson manager] and I are trying to sober him up and get him to the press conference with his hairdressemake-up artist
Leiweke's response:
"Are you kidding me?"
In a second email to Leiweke, Phillips wrote:
I screamed at him so loud the walls are shaking. Tohme and I have dressed him and they are finishing his hair and then we are rushing to the O2. This is the scariest thing I have ever see. He is an emotionally paralyzed mess riddled with self loathing and doubt now that it is show time. He is scared to death. Right now I just want to get through his press conference
After showing the e-mails to the jury, Panish asked his witness if he had yelled at Jackson on the day the e-mail was written.
Phillips: "In the two-and-a-half hours this all took place, if you take it out of context the answer won't make any sense"
The executive later acknowledged, "I raised my voice"
Panish: "So the answer is no? Did you or did you not scream at Mr. Jackson? Yes, no or I don't remember?"
Phillips said he couldn't answer the question.
At his deposition six months earlier, before he was shown his e-mails, Phillips denied that Jackson was either drunk or despondent on the day of the president conference, and denied yelling, saying he merely "raised his voice."
Phillips says he was telling the truth in his deposition, and was not accurate in his email. "I was relaying what Dr. Tohme told me... I wrote it as fast as I could write it."

Panish:"You have to yell pretty loud to make the walls shake. Do you have a tendency to exaggerate?"
Phillips: "No."
To another business associate, Phillips wrote:
"I haven't pulled it off yet. We still have to get his nose on properly. You have no idea what this is like. He is a self-loathing emotionally paralyzed mess... I just slapped him."
Phillips admitted, "I slapped him on the butt"
Phillips began worrying about Jackson backing out of the concert tour just a month after he signed the contract with AEG Live to promote and produce it and more than a week before the announcement.
"I was worried that we would have a mess, his career would be over," Phillips testified. "There were a lot of things I was worried about."
But instead of pulling the plug then, before millions of dollars were spent, AEG LIve chose to force Jackson ahead.
"Once we go on sale, which we have the right to do, he is locked," Gongaware wrote to Phillips.
Phillips testified it was "a very tense situation" and "frankly, I created the tension in that room. Because I was so nerve-racked, OK, the time slipping away, and his career slipping away."
AEG was hosting thousands of Jackson fans and hundreds of journalists for the anticipated announcement, which would be seen live around the world.

For the two new members here, Hi! Thank you so much for joining :D
Hi, I'm extremely excited that you two are here to follow my crusade to reviving the best game of all time. I'm just gonna be doing random updates to show you were I'm up to at all times. For now, my focus is getting from where we are, to a full kickstarter for where I aim to crowd fund at least 50,000$ to be able to produce the best game I possibly can. I know we can do this, but it will take some time, but thankfully I'm extremely eager to achieve this. The type of kickstarter that I'd want my kickstarter to look like would be this: , but baby steps for now. Current goals for now: establishing music producer, establishing game logo, learning unity game engine, and help from yall. Music: I've emailed Yannis Brown, the original soundtrack designer for restaurant city, and requested if he would be interested in scoring this game for which he politely declined but recommended someone else for music. So ill just be investigating a little more to see what would be the best direction for soundtrack. For now, I like the sound of Tyler the Creator - 'Whoville' music. Imagine that song, with the sound of food cooking and people eating in your restaurant, and being satisfied with how it all looks together. My vision is very beautiful.
Game logo: So far, I've hired a friend who is studying visual communication and graphic design at university to design my logo. We want it to be simple to the eye, and attractive for everyone who sees it, luring them in to playing the game. Similar to the moonglow bay logo, with a focus on orange colour. I think orange would be the best shining colour to use for Restaurant Odyssey, but what do you think?. This friend that I've hired is also down for designing every single object in the game for a steep price :0. But that'll come later with the kickstarter, but for now, get excited for the game logo, Id say itll be till the 10th or 11th of jun till I can show you what were repping forever, or at least concept designs.
Unity: I'm actually pretty well used to using C program from uni, and did one of the hardest courses in the computer department with C as the focal language, which was the worst experience of my life. The course not the C programming. This game will be run on Unity as I think that it has the most resources for learning, and I know a lot of impressive games built on it that I think restaurant odyssey would be piss easy to make with. So far, Unity requires C++, and im not sure how similar or different it is to C but I will find out the more I research and practice. I'd say I'm a pretty smart guy, studying engineering, major in software engineering at usyd, so I don't think it will take too long before I have this stuff down pact. Id say a strong amount of time before Im ready for serious development would be a month maximum.
Gameplan: The plan rn, I have it written down, - grow reddit, - establish some graphics for the game so that I can use it to decorate all the other social medias I plan on expanding to (this'll maybe take a week or so). - force my graphic person to make some objects to show to you guys (tables, chairs, fridge). - Learn the hell out of unity.
Help from yall: I wanted to ask, how would i be able to grow this community more, and try to reach all audiences that miss restaurant city, and audiences that would be interested in a game like this in general? I'm scared to put my all into this game for only a handful of people that actually play, I would love this community to be huge, and any tips from you guys could go miles for me and I'd really really appreciate it. Rn, the goal is 10 members, and slowly get bigger along the way, how would we be able to do that? I'm extremely new to reddit but I'm extremely hungry involving all aspects of this game, including the community, so please leave comments on what I should do, and maybe share this community to people that like this type of stuff aswell. Thank you all, till next time when I have more stuff to show.

2023.06.05 12:24 TatorTot615 Weird job clothes

Has anyone ever seen their sim change into a different outfit for work than normal? A couple of months ago during an event where they make pottery and candles, I had my female sim go to work. Instead of spinning into her normal work clothes, she changed into a yellow Las Vegas show girl complete with three feather tails, skimpy outfit and feathers in her hair. I had to do a double take before she disappeared. Haven’t seen it since.
