I’ve been looking for a crash bar for my new ninja 650 krt. I could get some frame sliders but the crash bar would be a lot more protective right? I can’t seem to find any good ones that have a reasonable amount of reviews that aren’t on eBay. Is there any you would recommend or should I just get frame sliders and if so which ones?

I recently bought a 2000 Kawasaki ninja 250r as my first project bike and got it running but wanted to check the valves because it didn't seem to be running quite right. when loosening the tappet locknut to adjust a valve the rocker arm swung around hitting this metal piece cast into the engine and breaking it off. after fishing everything out I saw the rocker arm broke (probably when I was loosening the locknut) making it spin around. if I get a new rocker arm and clean out any metal from the engine can I just leave that piece broken? I know that's never a good idea but it doesn't seem to touch anything, my only concern is it might be there to direct oil flow.

2023.06.04 14:27 RobertThePersian JK 3.6 Pentastar with persistent oil filter housing leak.

Long story short: about to be installing my fifth oil filter housing assembly in eight months.
The Jeep: 2016 RHD JK with 100k+ miles, used for mail delivery that I've owned for four years. Using Mobil 1 5W-20 High Mileage Synthetic before the new engine which has had whatever Mopar oil the dealership put in. Also, I do use a torque wrench to tighten the filter to 18 ft. lbs. at every oil change, which I've been doing around every 3,000 miles because of the intense use.
I came home one day in October 2022 and noticed something that caught my eye on the garage floor underneath my Jeep. I looked and there was oil running underneath my Jeep on the backside of the oil pan and along where the inspection plugs are at on the bell housing, and had the transmission pan covered. I looked in the engine bay and I could tell the valve cover gaskets were wet (this will become somewhat relevant later). I checked the dipstick and noticed I was down a half-quart of oil. I got in touch with a local shop that has a good rep within my small community and the mechanic said it wasn't my valve covers, that I had an oil filter housing leak that was just running along the valve cover. I wanted him to do the work because I wasn't super-eager about reassembling the intake and I needed new spark plugs anyways (this will also come back later), so that overlaps well enough. It took him a month to get around to it, I drove my backup a lot in the meantime, and the bill for spark plugs and the oil filter ended up being $660. That's how I got Oil Filter Housing #2.
But the Jeep kept leaking oil.
I took it back to the local mechanic the next chance I got, a couple of weeks later. He said he'd look at it that day, I guess he did, and assured me it was probably old oil that was still stuck along the way. I was skeptical; after probably fifty hours of use, any old oil should have run off or burned off a bit ago. The Jeep keeps on leaking oil, even after I do an oil change. I take it back and the local mechanic pours some dye in and tells me to come back in a day and he will look and see if it's still leaking fresh oil. Local mechanic finds that it is and he reinstalls the oil filter housing, free of charge to me.
We had a wet and icy winter in the central US that kept the garage floor and the bell housing and the transmission pan cleaned off so I didn't notice a lot of oil getting on the floor but I did have to keep the Jeep topped off, losing a quart about every 1500 miles. I'm figuring that's not super unusual for a Pentastar with 100k+ on the clock and I'm busy and don't have time to have the Jeep laid up in the weather that I bought it for. When spring comes around I start to notice the leak again. At this point I'm starting to suspect a rear main seal more than oil filter housing but the inspection holes are still dry.
One weekend in March, I did an oil change on a Sunday afternoon. The next day (Monday, the perfect day of the week for this to happen), I'm heading out to load my Jeep and I notice a gigantic puddle of something underneath my Jeep. It looks to me like the front crankshaft seal just pissed itself. I feel the puddle and the liquid is slick, like oil. It's also barely above 32F outside, and all the liquid I can see is running underneath the crankshaft pulley. Oil stick still looks OK though. I panic drive the Jeep back home and get it in the garage, put a mat under it, get my backup and do my route. I try to get a local shop (the one I went to before or any others within ten miles, which is about as far as I estimate it can go) to see if they can get my Jeep in but they refuse to take it because they are too busy. I call a Jeep dealership a couple of towns over that has a good reputation (as opposed to the one a town over, but owned by the same company, that doesn't) and have it towed there. I tell them about the immediate problem and the oil leak I've been having. The service advisor, who I have to say is one of the better ones I've ever worked with on anything, calls me back and tell me that it wasn't the crank seal, it was the water pump. They also noticed I had some rocker arms going bad. I tell them that I had noticed that too (I had always heard that Jeep dealerships wouldn't look at rockers until a check engine light came on otherwise I'd have taken care of this a year or two ago) and that they would replace those. The oil leak looked to be coming out of the oil filter housing and the valve covers (the same thing I thought six months ago). To skip ahead through a couple of phone calls, the rockers on the left bank of the Pentastar were also bad and a cam over there was damaged. I could have all of that repaired for $5300 or just install a reman engine + the oil filter housing for around $8k, which would include a three year, 100k mile parts & labor warranty. After thinking about what else could continue going wrong, I ended up telling them to put a reman in. I get over to the dealership to pick up my Jeep after it's all said and done and the SA says "Oh, we had to put new spark plugs in, the old ones were junk and weren't really for that vehicle." My opinion of the trusted local mechanic really has gone downhill but I'm thrilled to have all of their bullshit behind me. That's the story of how I got Oil Filter Housing #3.
Things are going fine with the Jeep, not hearing any crazy noises, but it does occur to me to check the oil after about 1,000 miles. I check and it's about a half-quart low. My eyebrows are raised but I think, "well maybe the dealership only put 5.5 quarts in." I top it off with some Mobil 1 I had around, and continue on as normal. After about 2600 miles on the new motor, I decide to check it again and the oil level is barely registering on the dipstick. I look underneath the Jeep and the back of the pan and the bell housing are all covered with oil again (nothing's on the transmission pan, curiously enough). I look up top and I can see oil coming out below where the filter is (which I haven't even touched on this engine). I top off the Jeep (with Mobil 1 again, which I thought about but that didn't make the Jeep oil level low to start with), call the dealership, and they conclude that it is oil filter housing and they replace the oil filter housing and change the oil, all under warranty and it didn't cost me a dime. That's Oil Filter Housing #4.
I got my Jeep back Wednesday of last week. Besides driving it home, I drove my backup vehicle on Thursday and drove the Jeep on the route on Friday & Saturday (yesterday). There's an empty church parking lot I usually stop at and re-sort and reorganize my parcels in. I decided to have a peek underneath just to check things out and sure enough, right on the bottom side of the bell housing once again. I'm going to be calling the dealership back first chance I get this week, so I guess this will be Oil Filter Housing #5.
So that's the full background.
My question is, are there any other causes for this besides just coincidentally bad workmanship spread across multiple mechanics and companies, or have Mopar parts quality just gotten this bad? Is there anything I can bring up to the Jeep SA that might be making these oil filter housing assemblies fail? I'm completely out of ideas here.

I got me this 1982 Kawasaki xj 650 last week. Bike it’s on one piece. Not many parts Missing. It looks like somebody was tweaking on it. It got few electrical parts replaced… like they were trying to get it to work by just replacing parts one by one. Any ways I got the old gas out of the tank. Oil changed did it too. I bought a new battery… and just rebuild the carburetor which they were in pretty bad shape… I didn’t have spark. Now I do…. I got compression on all cylinders… after all that I try turning it on. N this is what I get…. Can somebody please guide me the way to go

What kind of maintenance do you guys do after the winter for your bike? I live in northeast US. I was out traveling, so will be getting back home soon. Wanted to make sure the bike is in good condition to drive again. Oh, btw it's a 2014 Kawasaki Ninja 650.
I did a full synthetic oil change and sparkplug change last summer. I know I'll need to get new tires this year.

Z650: cheapest. Least amount of features, right?
Ninja 650: OK, same features but more plastic means more expensive than the Z650
Vulcan S: Here it gets weird. No LED lights, not a full TFT instrument cluster, no app support and as of 2023 no traction control but it is more expensive than the previous two.
Versys 650: Back to the full feature set but longer suspension. The price increase from the Ninja seems a bit large but it makes sense that it would be more expensive.

F(21) back in march on the 23rd i went over to my M(24) ex boyfriend’s place and stayed the night. he was planning on helping me change my oil in the morning. i had brand new 5qts of oil and an oil filter waiting in my trunk. my ex and i are super close considering each other best friends, we did mess around here and there still so there was that fwb aspect but there was alot more to it than just that. We broke up in October of 2022 (it was mutual so we could focus on ourselves) and shorty after that he was filling the void of loneliness by sleeping with a few girls including me still. One of them happened to be a complete psychopath. this girl he met grew a deep hatred for me and huge obsession for him. in the beginning she was stalking me on social media, i would see her name viewed my story and even accidentally liking my photos. It got so bad i had to block her and then i started seeing views from weird random accounts and even her SISTER. it got creepy and weird really quick, she was even stalking him but this time IN PERSON! she had his location too at the time and then he was started to get paranoid as well. he obviously kept her around cuz of the benefits of her having money and always buying him shit and another chick to fuck of course cuz men love their variety amiright? (i don’t judge i’m open) anyway long story short it built up to me waking up the next day from that night to my ex texting her fuming telling me she fucked with my car. I walk over and see the two drivers side tires slashed from what looked like knife indents, keyed all around from the knife as well i assume from how deep scratches were, and the worst of all pouring that 5 qts of oil i had in my trunk all over the interior, radio, seats, vents, everything was drenched and covered in oil. along with stealing my new oil filter…my car was behind a locked gate and unfortunately my dumbass didn’t lock my car, but she still managed to trespass my ex’s property through a different gate that was accidentally left unlocked that night. i used to be an uber eats driver so that really screwed me over financially, i have really bad mental and physical health issues that prevent me from keeping a regular job. the car estimate from all the damage was over $11k and she still owes me $500 for the damages my insurance didn’t cover. i made the police report immediately and now have a detective but it’s been really hard getting ahold of him. the last time i did talk to him i gave him evidence of an audio recording of my ex talking to her on the phone about it and her admitting to it, along with a screenshot from his phone of her admitting to doing it as well. so far i haven’t heard any updates and it’s been two months since i’ve submitted the evidence, my case still isn’t in their system either…i know its typical to be a long process but i’m still very concerned and anxious about this, i want her to face jail for what she did i literally had to get a new used car cuz the damage was that bad. restitution and jail is what sounds fair to me. i’m basically just asking for advice or insight from anyone that’s had any experiences similar to this or redditors who work in law or crime business, please it would be a big help! thank you for reading.

There weren't a ton of halts during this short week, the highest day was yesterday with 29 halts on 11 tickers. The 20 day average dropped from the 90th percentile last Friday down to just barely in the 70th percentile today because it lost the 5 days from about a month ago when there were an average of more than 100 halts per day. The 50 day average remained in the 80th percentile all week.
Ok, now on to my regular post...
Disclaimer due to recent issues in relation to brigading. I am simply attempting to provide a metric for market wide volatility as a possible alternative to other volatility indices such as VIX. I will talk about quite a few tickers other than GME, but that is simply an attempt to comment on odd or interesting behavior from those stocks that didn't match with the average. I am not advocating for or against any of those other tickers, simply attempting to give data and context for that data. I originally started looking at halt data when I got curious about which other stocks halted between Jan 27 and Jan 29 of 2021 to see if I could find a pattern or some interesting data that might be useful down the line.
For anyone wondering what use it is to have a volatility index or why an alternative to VIX could be useful, this comment chain from my post on December 26th 2022 gives a pretty good ELIA. Also, there has been a lot of chatter on and off over the last few years about VIX and I for one would love to have an alternative that it can just be compared to since more data is always better IMO.

NYSE halt tracking page is seeing some glitches (or possible just odd behavior) over the last few days. (Posted 9/30)
Market Wide Limit Up Limit Down (LULD halts) significantly higher than normal. Over 100 halts today on 28 different tickers. (posted on August 2)

Adding a further TLDR per mod request; LULD halts are volatility halts on a specific ticker that halts trading for a minimum of 5 minutes on that ticker. Several months ago I realized that the NYSE records all the halts that happen every trading day and save them on a website. So knowing this, I wondered if I could possibly find other tickers that had a significant number of halts between Jan 27 and Jan 29 of last year. When I looked at the data, I found a lot of the usual suspects and a few other tickers that hadn't really been discussed previously very much as possible swap basket stocks. I also found that, while the volume of halts did spike in that period last year, the highest period by far in the available data was in mid March 2020. So I theorized that halts are likely correlated to market volatility and may provide an alternative metric to VIX. There has also been some odd activity with resume times for some halts going significantly into after hours (halts typically resume by 16:00:01 EST at the latest).
Ok, now that that is out of the way, I have continued monitoring the NYSE page that tracks halts. Wednesday, and Thursday both had halts going into the closing bell this week. Both days had a resume at 16:00:00 EST which is completely normal. However there are now 2 tickers that are having very odd behavior with multi day halts. As I posted on Monday there was a ticker that had a halt last Wednesday 5/24 that hadn't resumed by the end of last week. It has remained halted through this entire week and is still showing up in the halts data. The historic data is also showing several halts all starting at the same time on that ticker when it halted last week, I am only including a single halt. There was another ticker that had very odd behavior in terms of a nearly month long halt that started on a Saturday somehow. It had not shown up previously as a volatility (LULD) halt so I am not completely certain what is going on.
There was only one ticker this week that had more than 10 halts, that ticker was SDA (SunCar Technology Group Inc.) . This seems to be a chinese company that deals in auto and truck insurance. The news page on yahoo has absolutely no news for this company however it appears that something is definitely going on with it over the last few months. It was trading very steadily at around $10 for years, and then on April 14 it dropped to close at $8 after hitting a low of $6.71. It has been very volatile ever since, and then it had 28 halts this week. 15 of the halts were on Tuesday when it went from an opening price of $18.61 to a closing price of $43.05 (+309.61%) which was also the daily high. It leveled off a bit yesterday and had a very volatile day (low was $26.63, high was $45.73) however it closed at $43.31. It plummeted today, opening all the way down at $31.06, it had a high of $40.35 and closed at $21.34 (-46.20%). I have absolutely no idea what exactly is going on but something is definitely going on.
MEOA (Minority Equality Opportunities Acquisition Inc) is a shell company or SPAC out of Texas. It has been trading for a while. It was supposed to have it's shareholders meeting on last Tuesday (5/23), but it was postponed to Wednesday, then to Friday then again to this past Wednesday (5/31). It closed last Tuesday at $11.05, then rocketed to a high of $43.50 before falling down to $26.54 at the time of the halt. It has not resumed and no trades have been made since then. It had 15 halts last Wednesday. It doesn't have another shareholder meeting postponement on yahoo finance, but it also still hasn't resumed.
SNMP (Evolve Transition Infrastructure LP) is an oil and gas company out of Texas. It has been trading for a while but has been having some issues recently meeting the continued listing requirements since it is trading at just $0.06 per share currently. Today's data from the NYSE lists it as having been paused on 5/6/2023 at 12:03:15 EST and shows a resume today at 09:35:25. Adding to my confusion here is the fact that it has been trading for that entire period and was not listed previously in the data from that week. This is a penny stock so it could be something related to that, but IDK.

I also track the ratio of total halts in a time period to the sum of the number of individual stocks that were traded during the duration of that period. The daily values bounced around a lot this week with a low in the 11th percentile on Friday and a high in the 89th percentile on Wednesday. The 5 day average was between the 50th and 70th percentiles all week. The 20 day average remained above the 90th percentile all week, but that is just the 5 days with a 5 day average above 100 from the beginning of the month remaining in the data. The 50 day average fell down to the 82nd percentile by Friday this week, which was kind of expected since 50 days from March 13 when there were over 200 halts in a single day was on Monday.
The daily, 5 day, and 20 day total halts are a simple sum (sum the tickers from the data for the daily, sum the daily totals for the multi day totals).
The Daily tickers with halts, 5 day total tickers with halts, and 20 day total tickers with halts only count any individual ticker once. If a ticker has 5 halts in one day, it still only counts as 1 ticker that day. If a ticker halts 3 different days it only counts as ticker in the 5 or 20 day totals. All of the percentages are actually percentiles and are calculated as percentile=100*(1-x/n) where x is the number of days with an equal or higher number of halts than the day being looked at and n is the number of days in the data (891 this week).
I am also including a table giving the cutoff values for 70th, 80th and 90th percentiles in total and unique halts for the daily, 5 day, 20 day, and 50 day averages. This value will change from week to week and be applied retroactively to all past dates.

Im looking to get my first bke within the next couple years and im trying to plan out what path ill go down. Im about 6ft maybe 270-280lbs and i was looking at the ninja 400 and ninja 650 for my first bike. Between those 2 i was considering used but still couldnt make the best choice. I love the look and dash of the 650 more but idk if its better since it seems to have comparable power. Another thing i was trying to decide was my second bike. I was thinking the zx6r looked good. For some more power but ive heard that is isnt very comfortable. I guess ideally a zx6r with the comfort of the ninja 650 but im not sure what if any bikes acomplish that.
Im down for other brand but kawasaki seemed reccomended for a first bike. Theres so many options and im struggling to find something. Id really like to have abs as well. Idk if thats really needed. But since I’ve never ridden before it sounds nice.

Recently acquired a mint 2007 Ninja 250r with 1.8k miles.
Rebuilt carbs / replaced jets, oil / coolant swap, new tires / batt, de-rusted tank / added inline fuel filter.
Runs a little lean, but otherwise great.
I took it on my first longer ride (~80 miles), 30 miles in it stalls and refuses to start, I sit around for 15 mins contemplating my life choices, then I try it again and it starts and runs like a dream for 10 more miles before it dies for good.
It sits in the garage for 2 days, then runs without any problems around town.
Oil temps are ~70% in traffic, but low at speed, no whooshing / vacuum in the fuel tank, no fuel blockage before the carburetor. Stalled engine sounded similar to when it had clogged carbs. I haven't been able to reproduce the problem within waddling-home distance, but this pretty much invalidates it as anything more than a learning cycle.
Any idea where I should start looking for problems?

I've got a d15b (no number after the b). Pm3-12 head, non vtec, 5spd manual p06 ecu. Bought it a while ago, since then I had the head rebuilt and decked at a machine shop because I blew the headgasket, 200+ psi in each cylinder before it went, hypereutectic pistons I think were added before me, maybe why psi is so high? Since doing headgasket I had to retorque the headbolts because they backed out and head was leaking oil? No clue why besides aluminum expanding and contracting. Ive followed every step by the book. Seemed to fix some issues, however, it is running very rich (aftermarket header, no cat, straightpipe) and almost wants to die on idle after warmed up and driven. goes below 500rpm then slowly back to 650-700 sometimes it will stall. Ive replaced everything from fuel filter, fuel pressure regulator, all injectors, iacv, distributor (cap and rotor), wires, plugs, vacuum lines, o2 sensor, timed the engine/ignition all to spec. I'm at a loss and have been reading old honda forums for weeks and cannot figure this out. I'm lead with some trouble shooting to either the iacv or fitv. I have not touched the fitv, map or tps. No stored codes either. This is my first ever post on reddit so I hope its okay and not too long, thanks for any feedback! I've got a lot more info I can give too on issues lmao, or if there is a more appropriate forum I'll take it there. Thanks!
