Saw a post where a scout was showing his achievements by posting his sash. It got me thinking, if you were a scout in your youth how many merit badges did you end up earning? I made Eagle in 2005 with 36 merit badges.

2023.06.06 01:38 wokenthehive List of common photo mistakes

Take it from me, I have glanced at every single profile review that comes through this sub. Most often, I can tell very quickly why someone's profile isn't working. They ALL share these very common photo mistakes that are fixable.
If you wonder why people don't really offer feedback on your profile review, one reason is because many of these profiles have these mistakes that are so common that people are tired of giving the same advice to people that don't bother to do simple research themselves before asking for help.
Anyways, here are the common issues I see at the time, often obvious with the very first photo.
The first photo on any dating profile is paramount as it offers a first impression whenever someone opens Hinge and looks at profiles in discover or checks their likes list. A bad first photo will make people X your profile on the spot instead of going through the rest of the profile.
Common photo mistakes:
Sunglasses: People want to see what you look like. Don't use any sunglasses photos on the first slot and limit them to one at most in the entire profile.
Filters: Something more exclusive to women. Again, people want to see what you look like naturally. Filters make it look as if you're hiding something about yourself.
Blurry: It's obvious, but use a photo where it's clear.
Cropped photo: It's obvious when it's a cropped photo when we see other people's arms or hair next to you. It also tends to end up being blurry when people take a larger photo and crop out the majority of it.
LinkedIn/Work photo: Your dating profile is not your resume. LinkedIn style photo looks stiff and too stuffy. Worst, don't use a photo that goes onto your work badge.
Mask: Again, why are you covering your face?
Too close: Don't use a portrait where your head fills the entire frame. It looks unflattering and the lack of negative space don't give any room to breathe.
Group photo: Why do you want to feature a photo where you are not the focus? It gives off the impression you're insecure about yourself. Group photos overall should be used sparingly and you should always be the focus. Never use a group photo where it's a large group and you're hard to find or hidden. And don't use a group photo where the friend(s) are much better looking than you.
Too far away: Not for a first photo. People don't want to have to squint to see what you look like.
Mirror selfie: And it's closely related offender, the bathroom selfie. No one wants to see your dirty bathroom mirror or the bathroom stall/urinal behind you. It's lazy and the phone blocks off part of your face. Mirror selfies aren't entirely a faux pas as I have seen a few rare ones where it's well done, but never use it as a first photo.
Car selfie: Again. no. A selfie inside a room is better than a car. The background of a photo still matters.
Not smiling: You're not taking a mugshot. Smile! I do think the whole smiling with teeth thing is overrated however. There are people who don't have a natural teeth smile. So don't force it if it doesn't work. I have seen a few people with a non-Duchenne smile and it looks creepy especially if the eyes are too intense (crazy eyes).
Bad black and white photo: Black and white portraits aren't easy and most often it looks washed out due to bad contrast.
Looking away: Why are you turning your head sideways or looking away? Look into the camera!
Weird angles: The dreaded "MySpace angle", Dutch angles, too low, etc.
Photo in a photo: Don't use a photo of a photo. I've seen people use a photo of themselves in a Polaroid or something.
General photo issues:
Photos without you: If you have a pet, or are into hobbies like cooking, anything artistic related, show yourself WITH the pet or doing the hobby! If you want to show off your hobby/craft/skill, link your Instagram if you have one.
Shirtless photos: Seems controversial. Some guys seem to do well with it. But a lot of women also hate it. I think many people think a gym selfie is tacky. If you have the body and want to flaunt it, something more natural like at the beach or pool works better. But really, if you don't have the physique, leave your shirt on.
Poor lighting: Photos where the highlights are too strong and washes out the photo, or too dark where we can't see anything. Or photos with too much shadows obscuring things. Lighting is the number one priority with any photos.
Photos with combinations of all the bad photos: All group photos, photos all with sunglasses, photos where it's all too polished (all professional looking and giving scammer vibes).
Photo not labeling who the other person is: Obviously don't use a photo with an ex. But people who use a photo with a person from the opposite gender of similar age don't bother to at least leave a caption so we have to guess who the other person is. If the other person is a friend/sibling/relative, say something!
Old photos: Obviously this is something that's more of an honor system and some may get away with it if their physical look haven't changed much within the past few years. But if you're using any photos that's from years ago, just don't. It's bordering on catfishing.
Caveat
Truth of the matter is, attractiveness still matters. If you are conventionally attractive enough, you can get away with a lot of the common photo mistakes.
Addendum
I'll write a future photo guide for what people should do for their photos on their Hinge profile, as well as my thoughts for the common prompt mistakes I see.
And aside from profile issues, people also have expectation issues, and that is a completely different topic I'll visit at a different time.

2023.06.06 01:27 UnfetteredDefiance It Ain't Me...

I'm been hearing a lot of crap about a few things. And let me tell you... women, I am kind of starting to despise you.
I don't talk to women I don't have to in my day to day. I also have cut way down on dealing with women I once knew. I'm not baby sitting my neighbor or sister in law kids. I'm not doing the activities and volunteer shit I used to do. This is the first year an many I will not be coaching in the summer league, cause I don't want to deal with the moms.
I didn't know how many females had my goddamn number until I decided to disengage.
So, in some attempt to explain my behavior to the gaggle of women who I am no longer around, my sister in law "let slip" my reasons. Don't know exactly what she said, but she claims she just said that I was tired of dealing with women in general and wanted to take some time to work on myself.
I don't believe this is what she said, but that's what she claims. I say this because of the reaction.
If a woman has penis based stress in her life and she swears off men, do men attack her? Do she get calls claiming that she's not a real woman or she needs to woman up or get out of her emotions? No? We just let her be? Perhaps maybe we try to guilt trip her into continuing fruitless one-sided friendships that only benefit men? No?
It all starts the same. Fake concern. Then fake comradery. Aww, but we'll miss you out there. It's not going to be the same without you. That kind of thing. Then we go through the guilt tripping, the gaslighting, before we finally get to questioning my manhood and stuff. Like its a personal fucking attack on them I don't wanna deal with they ass.
What it is a surrender. I do not want to do deal with you. Me in your life is not for me, so I'm up out of it.
Here's my life. I have so many people, and a disproportionate number of them are women, that I kept feeding time, effort, and care into like a furnace for no other reason than I thought that's what I was supposed to do. Neverminded that not only did it not keep me warm, but I'm getting frost bite while you drain my time, spirit, and resources.
So... what do I get out of this. What do I get out of any of any of these relationships? These aren't friendships, these are parasites that are leeching me dead and causing diseases, I just pretended they all had cute names and were my friends. They aren't. Their action prove they aren't.
It ain't me. I'm not that dude whose got it in him to believe that it's worth sticking my head back in the reaper to see if one of these vile succubi is actually an angel.
Companionship? I got a dog. Love? Is a four letter word that's as offensive as fuck and cunt; and since its predicated on my money, looks, and social status; it ain't real. Sex? Shit, it's so low on my priority list I haven't had it in a while, nor masturbated, and trust me I feel no real loss. Besides I can't geek my head up to be sexually attracted to any goddamn thing or body for the foreseeable future.
I clean. I cook. I make my money. I do the chores, tend the garden, sew up my own pants if theirs a hole. I was boy scout, never made eagle, but sure as hell got that badge up at Lefeber.
I'm struggling to figure out what the fuck I need you for or why I got to explain it. I've been very polite, very understanding, very patient but I'm losing my damn mind here. I wanna scream!
NO I DON'T WANT TO HELP WITH THE POTLUCK! NO I DON'T FUCKING HAVE TIME TO COME HELP YOU FIX ANYTHING. I CAN'T CHAPARONE SHIT! FUCK YOU FUCK YOUR KIDS! I DO NOT OWE YOU MY TIME OR AND EXPLAINATION! I AM ONLY SORRY THAT I SPENT A LIFE TIME GIVING YOU THE IMPRESSION THAT YOU CAN DEPEND ON ME! YOU CAN'T! I DON'T OWE YOU SHIT!
This is the hardest goddamn year of my life. It's like spending your life thinking you're working toward being Luke Skywalker and it turns out you storm trooper 0129543, your job is to let folks step on your back on the way up the lift and do it with a smile.
Well, I'm not smiling. I'm looking at the mirror and resenting the idiot on the other side. I'm sure most men, better men, can stand up, swallow they shit and move forward. Be that dude. Deal with them women. I'm not that dude. I don't want shit to do with you.
And guess what, it's better. I'm installing the ultimate surround sound in my goddamn den and it's lovely. I finally building my ultimate gaming man cave. I got my main TV and switch boxes and the like for my 6 crts for retro gaming. I spent my life making money I was afraid to spend because I needed to be responsible for my 'family'. Fuck that shit. I finally, finally, completed my Neo GEO Collection. Now I'm working no N64. That makes me happy. Having what I work for and earned.
And I'm slaying in my sons room. He still sleeps in my room, but He's going to have the COOLEST fucking bedroom.
Which, for anyone keeping score, means no I'm not moving back to the house. She can have it. At least there I know my son is in a great environment.
So to any ladies out there who want to admonish me cause I think celibacy and being alone is more my speed...
Bitch you don't have to deal with me. Why the fuck do you care what I do?

2023.06.06 01:08 malibu_c Doubling Down on the 2019 Eric Davis Briefings to Congress.

Doubling Down on the 2019 Eric Davis Briefings to Congress.
First off, Happy Crash Retrieval Day everybody!
I'm sure you're at least aware of the story by now. Yes that one. THE story.
You might have missed though, is the huge nod to Dr. Eric W Davis, everybody's favorite loveable, brilliant scientist who can't tell a lie, can't keep his mouth shut about crash retrievals, and helped get this ball rolling when he testified to said crash retrievals to 2 Congressional Committees in 2019. (That means under penalty of perjury folks) It was published in the NYTimes, it stood for a while, then there was a soft little walk back. And lots of folks shat on him. Well well well.
Per THE story, they have doubled down on the Eric W. Davis testimony and we now know we have our big UFO Disclosure Daddy Chris Mellon to thank for that.
Mellon, the former Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Intelligence, has been instrumental in arranging classified briefings for members of Congress and other officials about UAP, which include references to exotic retrieved materials. The first briefing he facilitated on retrievals of unexplained objects was provided to staff members of the Senate Armed Services Committee on Oct. 21, 2019, and to staff members of the Senate Intelligence Committee two days later, as reported by The New York Times.
Some else you might have missed: In the May 2022 Congressional Hearing we got the shot heard 'round the UFO world. The Wilson Davis memo was read into the Congressional Record thanks to Dr. Garry Nolan briefing Rep. Gallagher on it. What else happened in May 2022? Grusch files his Inspector General complaint contemporaneously corroborating Eric W Davis's notes from 2002.
Do you believe in coincidences? Me neither.
You can bet there's other things planned that have been cooking behind the scenes. Did you see how it said that this Davis briefing was the first that Mellon facilitated? That's a strong opening move, and first means there are more. Did you see how just recently that same Dr. Nolan said he almost had access to these crash retrievals but was denied at the 11th hour? And he said this was like 7 years ago, so... Don't be so quick to nay say, "soon," and "trust me bro" the folks who have kept this story quiet for 2 years (per Coulthart & Zabel) or more like Nolan and occasionally drop a hint or two to their friends.
So how long til Eric Davis' employer allows him to speak again? This story is blowing up and the next time you hear from him it might just be in front of a prime time Congressional Hearing on UFOs.
It's gonna be an interesting year.

2023.06.05 21:16 ChandlerGilbertCC Convert Desert Mesquite Pods Into Food for World Environment Day

Sustainability Effort Tastes Sweet
The desert is a surprising place. For those unfamiliar with the environment, it can feel like it’s nothing more than just hot and, well, brown. But if you look closely, the desert ecosystem is quite impressive. Kendra Stanger, Environmental Technology Center (ETC) Coordinator at Chandler-Gilbert Community College (CGCC), helps students learn about Arizona through programs that bring environmental lessons to life.
The ETC at CGCC is more than just a garden; it is a program developed by a collaboration of instructors from various departments and academic disciplines who worked with students from their classes, Honors programs, clubs, and community groups to experiment with sustainability theories. Through their collective knowledge, this group transformed a dusty, two-acre plot of land into an outdoor garden-based classroom.
The current ETC project teaches how to convert desert mesquite pods into food. Mesquite shrubs or small trees are common in the Southwest, and their bean-like pods can be a nutritious food source to humans and wildlife. For this sustainability initiative, Stanger describes the process of converting the pods to flour:
“Don’t let your mesquite pods go to waste! They may seem like a nuisance, but they are some of the most plentiful FREE food products around the valley. Mesquite is a high-protein food, highly nutritious, rich in iron, calcium, magnesium, potassium, zinc, and lysine. It digests slowly, has a high fiber and protein content and is low on the glycemic index. In a few simple steps, you can turn those pesky pods into usable flour for many different recipes. All you must do is:
  1. Harvest the pods. They are available from June-September, but it’s best if you get them right off the tree. Set up a tarp underneath the tree, shake to dislodge, and all pods that fall without pulling are ready. The best way to find out if your mesquite tree has pods worth harvesting is to taste them! Here in the Valley there are several varieties, but the two most common are Honey and Velvet mesquite. Take a pod from the tree, chew it just a bit, if you like the flavor, harvest from that tree. Due to cross pollination and hybridization, some won't taste good. If you taste the pod and it's bitter, or sucks the moisture from your mouth, move on... there are better trees.
  2. Sort through and get rid of twigs, leaves and other debris you’ve accumulated while harvesting.
  3. Toast or dry the pods to get rid of beetles and other undesirables that may have gotten into the pods. (We toasted in CGCC’s Ceramics Kiln at 185 degrees F for 1-2 hours.)
  4. Blend in a food processor or mortar and pestle until you have a flour-like consistency.
  5. Sift with a mesh strainer to get all the unblended seeds or husks out.
There are some facilities that will mill your pods for you. It took me about half an hour to turn one five-gallon bucket of already toasted pods into 2 pounds of flour using a food processor. So, if you’ve got much more than that… it might be worth the trip.
Mesquite flour is gluten free. If you have experience baking with gluten free products, use it as you normally would another gluten free flour such as almond or coconut. Keep in mind it is on the sweet side. If you are wanting to use it to cook or bake with like regular flour, use 1/4 cup mesquite flour and 3/4 cup regular flour for 1 full cup. Mesquite flour has been used to make tortillas, sweet breads, pancakes, cookies, muffins and cakes because it is sweet, but it can also be added to soups, gravies and sauces, casseroles, vegetable and meat dishes, and pie crusts."
Instructions, videos, and recipes for using the flour are available online. The Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum offers ideas at https://www.desertmuseum.org/centeedu/docs/k-2_TIP_recipes.pdf. And if you have any questions, comments, concerns, or ideas, Stanger welcomes emails to [email protected].
Projects such as the Mesquite Pods harvest support the Chandler-Gilbert Community College vision for its students to be prepared to lead the community into a promising and sustainable future. 1. Understanding UPSC CSE & Role of Civil Servants

UPSC CSE is of significant importance in shaping governance and administration. It recruits capable candidates for administrative, police, and diplomatic roles, crucial for nation-building. Civil servants formulate and implement policies, manage resources, and ensure effective governance. They address social issues, uplift marginalized communities, improve public services, and strive for inclusive growth. They work with policymakers, addressing challenges like poverty, education, healthcare, infrastructure, and sustainability. Civil services also include foreign services, fostering diplomacy and global cooperation. UPSC follows a rigorous, merit-based selection process, ensuring competent and ethical candidates. Civil servants are accountable, acting with transparency and integrity. It offers growth opportunities, diverse roles, training, and exposure, enhancing skills and leadership abilities.

2. Deciding to Pursue UPSC CSE

Deciding whether UPSC CSE is the right path for you requires careful consideration and self-reflection using C-A-R S-E-T.
Consider if you have a genuine desire to serve the nation, make a positive impact on society, and contribute to the betterment of the country through public service.
Assess your strengths, skills, and aptitudes. Consider if you possess the necessary qualities for civil services, such as analytical thinking, leadership abilities, effective communication, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work under pressure.
Reflect on whether you are willing to invest the time, effort, and dedication needed for extensive and rigorous preparation. Consider your study habits, ability to handle vast amounts of information, and commitment to continuous learning.
Seek Guidance and Advice Speak to current or former civil servants, mentors, or individuals who have attempted UPSC CSE; or are/were in service. Seek their guidance and insights into the challenges, rewards, and realities of a career in civil services. Their experiences can help you gain a deeper understanding of what to expect.
Evaluate Alternative Paths Consider if there are alternative career paths that align with your interests, skills, and aspirations. Explore other avenues that allow you to make a positive impact on society and contribute to public service. [Checkout my previous post for more details]
Trust Your Intuition Listen to your inner voice and trust your instincts. Consider your passion, enthusiasm, and dedication toward public service. If you genuinely feel drawn to the purpose and challenges associated with civil services, it may be an indication that UPSC CSE is the right path for you.

3.4 Effective note-making techniques
  1. Keep it concise: Focus on capturing the key points and essential information. Avoid lengthy sentences and unnecessary details. Use bullet points, headings, and subheadings to structure your notes and make them easy to scan and review.
  2. Use abbreviations and symbols: Develop a set of abbreviations and symbols to represent commonly used words or phrases. This saves time and space while taking notes. For example, use arrows (→) for "leads to," abbreviations like "govt" for government, or "&" for "and."
  3. Highlight and underline: Use highlighters or underline important keywords, phrases, or facts to draw attention to critical information. This makes it easier to quickly review and revise key points.
  4. Draw diagrams and flowcharts: Visual representations like diagrams, flowcharts, or mind maps can help in understanding and retaining complex concepts. Use arrows, boxes, and connectors to illustrate relationships between different ideas or components.
  5. Use colors and different fonts: Incorporate colors or different fonts to visually differentiate between headings, subheadings, and content. This makes your notes more visually appealing and aids in organization and quick reference.
  6. Summarize and rephrase: Instead of copying content verbatim, try to summarize and rephrase information in your own words. This process enhances understanding and retention. Focus on capturing the essence of the content rather than every single detail.
  7. Include examples and case studies: Supplement your notes with relevant examples, case studies, and illustrations. This helps in better comprehension and application of concepts during revision and while answering exam questions.
  8. Create separate sections for different subjects/topics: Maintain separate notebooks or sections for each subject or topic. This helps in keeping your notes organized and easily accessible. It also allows you to review specific subjects independently.
  9. Use headings and subheadings: Use clear headings and subheadings to categorize and structure your notes. This makes it easier to locate specific information and navigate through your notes during revision.
  10. Regularly review and revise your notes: Set aside regular time for revisiting and updating your notes. Reviewing your notes frequently ensures that the information stays fresh in your memory and helps you identify areas that need further clarification or revision.
Remember, note-making is a personal process, and you should develop a system that works best for you. Experiment with different techniques (Cornell, Outlining, Mapping, Charting, Sentence), formats, and organization methods to find what suits your learning style and aids your comprehension and revision process.

4. Preliminary Exam

The Preliminary exam is the first stage of the selection process. It consists of two papers: General Studies Paper-I (GS Paper-I) and General Studies Paper-II (CSAT Paper-II). Here is an overview of the Prelims exam:
1. General Studies Paper-I (GS Paper-I):
Duration: 2 hours
Total marks: 200 marks
Number of questions: 100 questions
1/3rd Negative Marking
Nature of questions: Multiple-choice questions (MCQs)
Syllabus: a. History: Ancient, Medieval, Art and Culture, Modern History of India, Indian National Movement. (not world history) b. Geography: Indian Geography, Physical Geography, Economic Geography, Environmental Geography. c. Polity and Governance: Indian Polity, Constitution, Public Administration, Panchayati Raj, Rights Issues, and Governance. d. Economy: Indian Economy, Economic Development, Sustainable Development, Social Sector Initiatives, Poverty, Inclusion, and Demographics. e. Science and Technology: General Science, Space Technology, IT, Biotechnology, and Environmental Science. f. Environment and Ecology: Environmental Ecology, environmental Legislation, Biodiversity, Climate Change, and Conservation. g. Current Affairs: National and International Events, Government Schemes, Sports, Policies, etc.
Not including key important topics as that will put a bias on your initial preparation.
2. General Studies Paper-II (CSAT Paper-II):
Duration: 2 hours
Total marks: 200 marks
Number of questions: 80 questions
1/3rd Negative Marking
Nature of questions: Multiple-choice questions (MCQs)
Syllabus: The CSAT Paper-II focuses on testing the aptitude and analytical abilities of the candidates, including areas such as comprehension, logical reasoning, analytical ability, decision-making, problem-solving, and general mental ability.
It's important to note that the marks obtained in the Prelims exam are considered for qualifying purposes only. The score of the Prelims is not added to the final merit list. The objective of the Prelims is to shortlist candidates for the Main examination based on a predetermined cutoff.

Section A of the General Studies IV (Paper-V) in the UPSC Main examination focuses on theoretical aspects related to fundamental values and concepts. It explores the meaning of various words such as integrity, ethics, morality, beliefs, and value systems.
An important subsection within Section A is "foundational values for civil services." The following year, the Audit Firm continued to identify significant weakness in controls with respect to custody of digital assets. On May 20, 2022—in its third letter identifying weakness for the company—the Audit Firm found that BAM Trading did “not have much visibility into on-chain activity related to it[]s exchange. The Company is dependent on the .COM custodian to tell them the addresses holding the assets, or other relevant metrics.” Similarly, the Audit Firm concluded that it “was difficult and sometimes not possible to pull wallet balances en masse as of a historical point in time. This makes it very difficult to ensure the Company is fully collateralized at specific points in time.” (Emphasis added.)

BAM Trading did not even implement a formal policy concerning its crypto assets custody and operations until May 15, 2023.

As of the end of 2022, BAM Trading was responsible for over $1.77 billion of Binance.US Platform customers’ crypto assets.

Press Release:

The Securities and Exchange Commission today charged Binance Holdings Ltd. (“Binance”), which operates the largest crypto asset trading platform in the world, Binance.com; U.S.-based affiliate, BAM Trading Services Inc. (“BAM Trading”), which, together with Binance, operates the crypto asset trading platform, Binance.US; and their founder, Changpeng Zhao, with a variety of securities law violations.
Among other things, the SEC alleges that, while Zhao and Binance publicly claimed that U.S. customers were restricted from transacting on Binance.com, Zhao and Binance in reality subverted their own controls to secretly allow high-value U.S. customers to continue trading on the Binance.com platform. Further, the SEC alleges that, while Zhao and Binance publicly claimed that Binance.US was created as a separate, independent trading platform for U.S. investors, Zhao and Binance secretly controlled the Binance.US platform’s operations behind the scenes.
The SEC also alleges that Zhao and Binance exercise control of the platforms’ customers’ assets, permitting them to commingle customer assets or divert customer assets as they please, including to an entity Zhao owned and controlled called Sigma Chain. The SEC’s complaint further alleges that BAM Trading and BAM Management US Holdings, Inc. (“BAM Management”) misled investors about non-existent trading controls over the Binance.US platform, while Sigma Chain engaged in manipulative trading that artificially inflated the platform’s trading volume. Further, the Complaint alleges that the defendants concealed the fact that it was commingling billions of dollars of investor assets and sending them to a third party, Merit Peak Limited, that is also owned by Zhao.
The Complaint also charges violations of critical registration-related provisions of the federal securities laws:
Binance and BAM Trading with operating unregistered national securities exchanges, broker-dealers, and clearing agencies;
Binance and BAM Trading with the unregistered offer and sale of Binance’s own crypto assets, including a so-called exchange token, BNB, a so-called stablecoin, Binance USD (BUSD), certain crypto-lending products, and a staking-as-a-service program; and
Zhao as a control person for Binance’s and BAM Trading’s operation of unregistered national securities exchanges, broker-dealers, and clearing agencies.
“Through thirteen charges, we allege that Zhao and Binance entities engaged in an extensive web of deception, conflicts of interest, lack of disclosure, and calculated evasion of the law,” said SEC Chair Gary Gensler. “As alleged, Zhao and Binance misled investors about their risk controls and corrupted trading volumes while actively concealing who was operating the platform, the manipulative trading of its affiliated market maker, and even where and with whom investor funds and crypto assets were custodied. They attempted to evade U.S. securities laws by announcing sham controls that they disregarded behind the scenes so that they could keep high-value U.S. customers on their platforms. The public should beware of investing any of their hard-earned assets with or on these unlawful platforms.”
“We allege that Zhao and the Binance entities not only knew the rules of the road, but they also consciously chose to evade them and put their customers and investors at risk – all in an effort to maximize their own profits,” said Gurbir S. Grewal, Director of the SEC’s Division of Enforcement. “By engaging in multiple unregistered offerings and also failing to register while at the same time combining the functions of exchanges, brokers, dealers, and clearing agencies, the Binance platforms under Zhao’s control imposed outsized risks and conflicts of interest on investors. Those risks and conflicts are only heightened by the Binance platforms’ lack of transparency, reliance on related-party transactions, and lies about controls to prevent manipulative trading. Despite their years-long efforts to not ‘be held accountable,’ today’s complaint begins the process of doing so.”
UNREGISTERED EXCHANGE, BROKER, AND CLEARING AGENCY
The SEC’s complaint, filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, alleges that, since at least July 2017, Binance.com and Binance.US, while controlled by Zhao, operated as exchanges, brokers, dealers, and clearing agencies and earned at least $11.6 billion in revenue from, among other things, transaction fees from U.S. customers. The SEC’s complaint alleges that (1) with respect to Binance.com, Binance should have registered as an exchange, broker-dealer, and clearing agency; (2) with respect to Binance.US, Binance and BAM Trading should have registered as an exchange and as clearing agencies; and (3) BAM Trading should have registered as a broker-dealer. The SEC also alleges that Zhao is liable as a control person for Binance’s and BAM Trading’s respective registration violations.
UNREGISTERED OFFER AND SALE OF CRYPTO ASSETS
The SEC charged Binance for the unregistered offers and sales of BNB, BUSD, and crypto-lending products known as “Simple Earn” and “BNB Vault.” Further, the SEC charged BAM Trading with the unregistered offer and sale of Binance.US’ staking-as-a-service program. The complaint also notes that Binance secretly has control over assets staked by U.S. customers in BAM’s staking program.
FAILURE TO RESTRICT U.S. INVESTORS FROM ACCESSING BINANCE.COM
The SEC’s complaint alleges that Zhao and Binance created BAM Management and BAM Trading in September 2019 as part of an elaborate scheme to evade U.S. federal securities laws by claiming that BAM Trading operated the Binance.US platform independently and that U.S. customers were not able to use the Binance.com platform. The complaint alleges that, in reality, Zhao and Binance maintained substantial involvement and control of the U.S. entity and that, behind the scenes, Zhao directed Binance to allow and conceal many high-value U.S. customers’ continued access to Binance.com. In one instance, the Binance chief compliance officer messaged a colleague that, “[w]e are operating as a fking unlicensed securities exchange in the USA bro.”
MISLEADING INVESTORS
According to the SEC’s complaint, BAM Trading and BAM Management misled Binance.US customers and equity investors concerning the existence and adequacy of market surveillance and controls to detect and prevent manipulative trading on the Binance.US platform’s crypto asset trading volumes. The complaint further alleges that the strategic and targeted wash trading largely perpetrated by the Binance.US platform’s primary undisclosed “market making” trading firm Sigma Chain, also owned by Zhao, demonstrates the falsity of statements BAM Trading made about its market surveillance and controls.
The SEC’s investigation into the violations with respect to the Binance.US platform was conducted by Kathleen Hitchins, Ann Rosenfield, and Colby Steele, with the assistance of Ainsley Kerr, John Marino, and Donald Battle and the supervision of Paul Kim. The investigation into the violations with respect to the Binance.com platform was conducted by Michael Baker, Donna K. Norman, and Martin Zerwitz, with the assistance of Sachin Verma and Alexander Lefferts and the supervision of Deborah A. Tarasevich. Both matters were overseen by Jorge G. Tenreiro and David Hirsch of the SEC’s Crypto Assets and Cyber Unit. The litigation is being led by Matthew Scarlato, Jennifer Farer, and J. Emmett Murphy, with the assistance of Hope Hall Augustini, and under the supervision of David Nasse, Olivia Choe, and Mr. Tenreiro.

TLDRS:

  • SEC Files 13 Charges Against Binance Entities & Founder Changpeng Zhao.
    • Charges include operating unregistered exchanges, broker-dealers, and clearing agencies; misrepresenting trading controls and oversight on the Binance.US platform; and the unregistered offer and sale of securities.
  • Not your keys, not your crypto. Not your name, not your shares.

2023.06.05 16:19 origutamos Toronto school board moves toward racial quotas, with support from Doug Ford's government

White, South Asian and East Asian students in Toronto seem to be a problem for Canada’s largest public school board. They crowd the merit-based specialty education programs offered by the district.
The response from the Toronto District School Board (TDSB) to this overrepresentation has been to axe merit-based admissions and opt for a semi-random lottery system that discriminates based on race. Now, one-fifth of seats in Toronto’s public specialty programs) are reserved for Black, Middle Eastern, Latin American and Indigenous students.
Of TDSB’s 230,000-or-so students, at least some have been denied education opportunities due to their race, which would have been unthinkable in Canada 10 years ago. It should be unthinkable now, but between the rise of formal diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) and the general disinterest the public has in education, it’s creeped its way in.
The school board says research and consultations back up their racial sorting project, but it’s hard to rely on a district whose researchers can’t be relied on to produce legitimate work. Among the meeting materials for this recent committee meeting was an “academic” literature review by TDSB that supposedly supported the lottery program with data; this review was in fact plagiarized and many citations were found to be fake (the TDSB’s researcher was later fired). Evidence-based policy indeed.
A parents group has asked Ontario’s education minister, Stephen Lecce, to review TDSB’s governance in accordance with a provincial regulatory provision; I asked his office about whether it would proceed with such a review, and the answer appears to be “no.”

TDSB trustees seem to frame their school lottery system as a force to combat entrenched elitism. But the parents argued otherwise. Elite families will always be able to obtain private lessons and schooling for their children, but working- and middle-class families have to rely on the public system’s offerings. In the old way, smart and talented children had a way into specialized programs if they worked hard; now, they don’t.

Saving Those Suffering From Disaster and Meeting Immediate Needs (From the Commentary on the Yin Chih Wen by Upasaka Zhou An Shi--Qing Dynasty era Lay Buddhist Pure Land Author )

Caption: Upasaka Zhou An Shi (1656–1739)

「Save those suffering from disaster」
Though disasters and calamities come in many forms, in general, they fall into seven categories:
Floods
Fires
Miscarriages of justice, malicious prosecution, lawsuits and persecution
War
Robbers and looters
Famine
Plague
For those trapped by fires and floods, we must evacuate them to safety. For those suffering from prosecution and persecution, we must prove their innocence and rehabilitate them. For those in danger of violence and robbery, we must extricate them from danger. For those suffering from famine, we must provide them with money and material aid. And for those suffering from plague and disease, we must provide them with healers and herbs.
Whenever we save others, we must do so with honesty and sincerity. We must see another’s disaster as our own disaster, and exhaust our wits and give as much wealth as we can to save them—not resting until we have matched our resolve to help with genuine effort.
However, if we only dispense aid when disaster has already struck, then our success will be limited and superficial. Even Confucius once said: “My ability to judge legal cases is no better than others.” The best way to forever prevent disasters from appearing is to prevent the karmic seeds from being sown. The merit from doing so is many times more potent, and is what Confucius meant when he said: “We must educate the masses until people no longer feel the need to sue, prosecute and dispute.”This is because all disasters and calamities are caused by evil karma. If we do not plant the causes of calamity today, we will not have to suffer disasters in the future. If we could encourage people to refrain from killing, stealing, lust and lies, we have saved them from myriad disasters. Thus, by preventing people from creating evil karma, our efforts become boundlessly efficacious.
To save victims of disasters that have already struck is the virtue of common people. To save people by preventing them from sowing evil karmic seeds is the practice of Bodhisattvas. By doing both, we thoroughly uproot the suffering of others.
Meet immediate needs
Immediate needs are not the same as disasters and calamities. Disasters strike without warning, but immediate needs are usually a matter of money. The people of this world consider wealth to be as precious as their lives, and so in their daily lives, their most pressing need is access to food, shelter and clothes. If they are sick, their most pressing need is medical care, if they are parents, their most pressing need is to ensure that their sons and daughters are married, and if they are about to die, then their most pressing need is their funeral.
We must, to the best of our power and ability, meet such needs as quickly as possible. Only then have we accomplished this virtue. Confucius said: “When the great Way prevails, all under Heaven becomes a commonwealth. People will love each other, and not just their relatives and sons. They will loathe to waste anything, and generously offer their resources for the benefit of others. They would hate to remain idle, and thus eagerly volunteer to benefit others.” By understanding this principle, we will no longer dare to dismiss another’s immediate need as someone else’s problem, but will see it as our own pressing need. And if we could see others immediate needs as our own, then we shall, for life after life, be free from desperation or lack.
Chen Ji-ting (Ming era scholar) once said: “The wealthy are referred to as masters of wealth, for they can dictate how it is spent.” Though we must be good stewards of our family wealth, we must not neglect charity and helping others. The rich of today are controlled by their wealth. Only people who can both steward wealth and donate to those in need are masters of their wealth. Those who merely retain it are slaves to their wealth.
According to the Sutra of the Upasaka’s Precepts: “The gift of clothes yields beauty, the gift of food yields peerless strength, the gift of light yields beautiful eyes, the gift of vehicles yields bodily ease, and the gift of residences yields the reward of having all needs met.” Furthermore, it also states: “If one joyfully gives clothes and food to one’s servants and their families out of compassion, then one will enjoy boundless blessings. If one sees rodents in one’s fields and granaries, and joyfully allow them this sustenance out of pity, then one will likewise enjoy boundless blessings.”

2023.06.05 07:45 Original-Ad-6758 Web3 WeChat anyone?

There is this latest tweet on Quai Network page, Why does decentralization matter to you? Well, the question has come at an opportune time. Standard Chartered, in collaboration with PwC China, have co-published a white paper on Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC). The paper emphasizes that programmable CBDCs could significantly boost trade and supply chain transactions across the globe. I’ll give a brief introduction on programmable CBDCs (mind you, not just CBDCs), they are digital currencies incorporating embedded programmable features. These programmable features can enable potential control over your transactions and lead to increased surveillance and control.
As in the case of WeChat App in China, authorities can track and monitor transactions, impose restrictions if they want to, dictate your compliance and curtail individual financial autonomy-complete antithesis of decentralization. If programmable CBDCs were not enough there is a suggestion for “programmable banking services” in the report.
This is the exact reason why decentralization is important for privacy rights, personal liberties, and a safety shield from the potential for abuse of power. What does the community think, any merit for distinction between CBDCs and programmable CBDCs or both are to be equally avoided? and OfCourse, why does decentralization matter to you?

2023.06.05 04:26 Tangou-888 The Hoax Story of Remarkable Testimony of a Buddhist monk in Myanmar (Burma) (Part I)

The Hoax Story of Remarkable Testimony of a Buddhist monk in Myanmar (Burma) who came back to life a changed man!
Introduction The story that follows is simply a translation of a taped testimony from a man with a life-changing story. It is not an interview or a biography, but simply the words from the man himself. Different people react in different ways when they hear this story. Some are inspired, some skeptical, a few will mock and ridicule, while some others have even been filled with rage and anger, convinced these words are the ravings of a mad man or an elaborate deception. Some Christians have opposed the story simply because the radical and miraculous events described herein do not fit their feeble image of an Almighty God.
We were first made aware of this story from several Burmese church leaders who shared it with us. These leaders had looked into the story and had not found any suggestion of it being a hoax. It was with this in mind that we decided to step out and circulate the story. We do not do so for any monetary gain, or with a motivation of self-promotion. We just want to let the story speak for itself, and invite Christian believers to judge it according to Scripture. If God wants any part of it to be intended for His glory or to encourage His people, then we pray His Spirit will work in the hearts of the readers in those ways.
Some people have told us they think the monk in this story never actually died, but that he just lapsed into unconsciousness, and the things he saw and heard were part of a fever-driven hallucination. Whatever you think, the simple fact remains that the events of this story so radically transformed this man that his life took on a complete 180-degree shift after the events described below. He has fearlessly and boldly told his story at great personal cost, including imprisonment. He has been scorned by his relatives, friends and colleagues, and faced death threats for his unwillingness to compromise his message. What motivated this man to be willing to risk everything? Whether we believe him or not, his story is surely worth listening to and considering. In the cynical West many people demand hard evidence of such things, evidence that would stand up in a court of law. Can we absolutely guarantee, beyond doubt, that all of these things happened? No, we cannot. But we feel it is worth repeating this man's story in his own words so that readers can judge for themselves.
My Early Years Hello! My name is Athet Pyan Shinthaw Paulu. I am from the country of Myanmar. I would like to share with you my testimony of what happened to me, but first I would like to give some brief background information from my life growing up.
I was born in 1958 in the town of Bogale, on the Irrawaddy Delta area of southern Myanmar [formerly Burma]. My parents, who were devout Buddhists like most people in Myanmar, named me Thitpin [which means 'tree' in English]. Our lives were very simple where I grew up. At the age of 13 I left school and started working on a fishing boat. We caught fish and sometimes also shrimp from the numerous rivers and streams in the Irrawaddy area. At the age of 16 I became the leader of the boat. At this time I lived in Upper Mainmahlagyon Island [Mainmahlagyon means 'Beautiful Woman Island' in English], just north of Bogale where I was born. This place is about 100 miles southwest of Yangon [Rangoon], our nation's capitol city.
One day, when I was 17, we caught a large number of fish in our nets. Because of the many fish, a large crocodile was attracted to us. It followed our boat and tried to attack us. We were terrified so we frantically rowed our boats toward the riverbank as fast as we could. The crocodile followed us and smashed our boat with its tail. Although no one died in this incident, the attack greatly affected my life. I no longer wanted to fish. Our small boat sank because of the crocodile attack. We had to go home to our village that night on a passenger boat.
Not long after, his employers transferred my father to Yangon City [formerly spelt Rangoon]. At the age of 18 I was sent to a Buddhist monastery to be a novice monk. Most parents in Myanmar try to send their son into a Buddhist monastery, at least for a time, as it is considered a great honor to have a son serve in this way. We have been observing this custom for many hundreds of years.

A Zealous Disciple of Buddha When I turned 19 years and 3 months old (in 1977), I became a normal monk. The senior monk at my monastery gave me a new Buddhist name, which is the custom in our country. I was now called U Nata Pannita Ashinthuriya. When we become a monk we no longer use the name given to us at birth by our parents. The name of the monastery I lived at is called Mandalay Kyaikasan Kyaing. The senior monk's name was called U Zadila Kyar Ni Kan Sayadaw [U Zadila is his title]. He was the most famous Buddhist monk in all of Myanmar at the time. Everyone knew who he was. He was widely honored by the people and respected as a great teacher. I say he "was" because in 1983 he suddenly died when he was involved in a fatal car accident. His death shocked everyone. At the time I had been a monk for six years.
I tried hard to be the best monk I could and to follow all the precepts of Buddhism. At one stage I moved to a cemetery where I lived and meditated continually. Some monks who really want to know the truths of Buddha do things like I did. Some move deep into the forests where they live a life of self-denial and poverty. I sought to deny my selfish thoughts and desires, to escape from sickness and suffering and to break free from the cycle of this world. At the cemetery I was not afraid of ghosts. I tried to attain such inner peace and self-realization that even when a mosquito landed on my arm I would let it bite me instead of brushing it off!
For years I strived to be the best monk I could and not to harm any living being. I studied the holy Buddhist teachings just like all my forefathers had done before me.
My life proceeded as a monk until I got very, very sick. I was in Mandalay at the time and had to be taken to the hospital for treatment. The doctors did some tests on me and told me I had both Yellow Fever and malaria at the same time! After about one month in the hospital I was getting worse. The doctors told me there was no chance for me to recover and discharged me to make arrangements to die.
This is a brief description of my past. I would now like to tell you some of the remarkable things that happened to me after this times...

A Vision that Changed My Life Forever After I was discharged from the hospital I went back to the monastery where other monks cared for me. I grew weaker and weaker and was lapsing into unconsciousness. I learned later that I actually died for three days. My body decayed and stunk of death, and my heart stopped beating. My body was prepared for cremation and was put through traditional Buddhist purification rites.
Although I faded away in my body I remember my mind and spirit were fully alert. I was in a very, very powerful storm. A tremendous wind flattened the whole landscape until there were no trees or anything else standing, just a flat plain. I walked very fast along this plain for some time. There were no other people anywhere, I was all alone. After some time I crossed a river. On the other side of the river I saw a terrible, terrible lake of fire. In Buddhism we do not have a concept of a place like this. At first I was confused and didn't know it was hell until I saw Yama, the king of hell [Yama is the name ascribed to the King of Hell in numerous cultures throughout Asia]. His face looked like the face of a lion, his body was like a lion, but his legs were like a naga [serpent spirit]. He had a number of horns on his head. His face was very fierce, and I was extremely afraid. Trembling, I asked him his name. He replied, "I am the king of hell, the Destroyer."
The terrible, terrible lake of fire The king of hell told me to look into the lake of fire. I looked and I saw the saffron colored robes that Buddhist monks wear in Myanmar. I looked closer and saw the shaven head of a man. When I looked at the man's face I saw it was U Zadila Kyar Ni Kan Sayadaw [the famous monk who had died in a car accident in 1983]. I asked the king of hell why my former leader was confined to this lake of torment. I said, "Why is he in this lake of fire? He was a very good teacher. He even had a teaching tape called 'Are You a Man or a Dog?' which had helped thousands of people understand that their worth as humans is far greater than the animals." The king of hell replied, "Yes, he was a good teacher but he did not believe in Jesus Christ. That's why he is in hell."
I was told to look at another person who was in the fire. I saw a man with very long hair wrapped on the left hand side of his head. He was also wearing a robe. I asked the king of hell, "Who is this man?" He replied, "This is the one you worship: Gautama [Buddha]."
I was very disturbed to see Gautama in hell. I protested, "Gautama had good ethnics and good moral character, why is he suffering in this lake of fire?" The king of hell answered me, "It doesn't matter how good he was. He is in this place because he did not believe in the Eternal God."
I then saw another man who looked like he was wearing a soldier's uniform. He had a large wound on his chest. I asked, "Who is this man?" The king of hell said, "This is Aung San, the revolutionary leader of Myanmar." I was told, "Aung San is here because he persecuted and killed Christians, but mostly because he didn't believe in Jesus Christ." In Myanmar the people have a common saying, "Soldiers never die, they live on." I was told that the legions of hell have a saying "Soldiers never die, but they go to hell forever."
I looked and saw another man in the lake of fire. He was a very tall man and he was dressed in military armor. He was also holding a sword and a shield. This man had a wound on his forehead. This man was taller than any person I have ever seen. He was six times the length between a man's elbow and the tips of his fingers when he stretches his arm out straight, plus one span of a man's fingers when he spreads out his hand. The king of hell said, "This man's name is Goliath. He is in hell because he blasphemed the Eternal God and His servant David." I was confused because I didn't know who either Goliath or David were. The king of hell said, "Goliath is recorded in the Christian Bible. You don't know him now, but when you become a Christian you will know who he is."

I was then taken to a place where I saw both rich and poor people preparing to eat their evening meals. I asked, "Who cooked the food for these people?" The king of hell replied, "The poor have to prepare their own food, but the rich people get others to cook for them." When the food had been prepared for the rich people they sat down to eat. As soon as they started a thick smoke came up. The rich people ate as fast as they could to ease their consciences. They were struggling to breath because of the smoke. They had to eat fast because they were fearful of losing their money. Their money is their god.
Another king of hell then came to me. I also saw a being whose job is to stoke the fires beneath the lake of fire, to keep it hot. This being asked me, "Are you going into the lake of fire too?" I replied, "No! I am only here to observe!" The appearance of this creature stoking the fire was very terrifying. He had ten horns on his head and a spear in his hand that had seven sharp blades coming from the end. The creature told me, "You are right. You came here just to observe. I cannot find your name here." He said, "You must now go back the way you came." He pointed me toward the desolate plain that I had first walked along before I came to the lake of fire.
The Road of Decision I walked a long time, until I was bleeding. I was hot and in great pain. Finally, after walking for about three hours I came to a wide road. I walked along this road for some time until I came to a fork. One road, going off to the left, was wide. A smaller road went off to the right hand side. There was a signpost at the fork saying that the road to the left was for those who do not believe in the Lord Jesus Christ. The smaller road to the right was for believers in Jesus.
I was interested to see where the larger road led so I started down it. There were two men walking about 300 yards ahead of me. I tried to catch up with them so I could walk with them but no matter how hard I tried I couldn't catch them up, so I turned around and went back to the fork in the road. I continued to watch these two men as they walked down the road away from me. When they reached the end of the road they were suddenly stabbed. These two men cried out in great pain! I also cried out when I saw what happened to them! I realized the bigger road ended in great danger for those who traveled down it.
Looking into Heaven I started walking down the believers' road instead. After traveling for about one hour the surface of the road turned to pure gold. It was so pure that when I looked down I could see my own reflection perfectly. I then saw a man standing in front of me. He was wearing a white robe. I also heard beautiful singing. Oh, it was so beautiful and pure! It was much better and more meaningful than the worship we have in churches here on the earth. The man in the white robe asked me to walk with him. I asked him, "What is your name?" but he did not answer. After I asked his name six times the man answered, "I am the one who holds the key to heaven. Heaven is a very, very beautiful place. You cannot go there now but if you follow Jesus Christ you can go there after your life has finished on the earth." The man's name was Peter.
Peter then asked me to sit down and he showed me a place to the north. Peter said, "Look to the north and see God create man." I saw the Eternal God from a distance. God spoke to an angel, "Let us make man." The angel pleaded with God and said, "Please don't make man. He will do wrong and will grieve you." [In Burmese literally: "He will make you lose face."]. But God created a man named anyway. God blew on the man and the man came to life. He gave him the name "Adam". [Note: Buddhists do not believe in the Creation of the world or of man, so this experience had a significant impact on the monk].

Sent Back with a New Name Then Peter said, "Now get up and go back to where you came from. Speak to the people who worship Buddha and who worship idols. Tell them they must go to hell if they don't change. Those who build temples and idols will also have to go to hell. Those who give offerings to the monks to earn merit for themselves with go to hell. All those who pray to the monks and call them 'Pra' [respectful title for monks] will go to hell. Those who chant and 'give life' to idols will go to hell. All those who don't believe in Jesus Christ will go to hell." Peter told me to go back to the earth and testify about the things I had seen. He also said, "You must speak in your new name. From now on you are to be called Athet Pyan Shinthaw Paulu ["Paul who Came Back to Life."].
I didn't want to go back. I wanted to go to heaven. Angels opened a book. First they looked for my childhood name (Thitpin) in the book, but they could not find it. They then looked for the name I had been given when he entered the Buddhist monk hood (U Nata Pannita Ashinthuriya) but it wasn't written in the book either. Then Peter said, "Your name is not written here, you must return and testify about Jesus to the Buddhist people."
I walked back along the gold road. Again I heard beautiful singing, the kind of which I have never heard before or since. Peter walked with me until the time I returned to the earth. He showed me a ladder that reached down from the heaven to the sky. The ladder didn't reach to the earth, but stopped in mid-air. On the ladder I saw many angels, some going up to heaven and some going down the ladder. They were very busy. I asked Peter, "Who are they?" Peter answered, "They are messengers of God. They are reporting to heaven the names of all those who believe in Jesus Christ and the names of those who don't believe." Peter then told me it was time to go back.
It is a Ghost! The next thing I was aware of was the sound of weeping. I heard my own mother cry out, "My son, why did you leave us now?" I also heard many other people weeping. I realized I was lying in a box. I started to move. My mother and father started shouting, "He is alive! He is alive!" Other people who were farther away did not believe my parents. I then placed my hands on the sides of the box and sat upright. Many people were struck with terror. They cried out, "It is a ghost!" and ran away as fast as their legs could carry them.
Those who remained were speechless and trembling. I noticed I was sitting in smelly liquid and body fluids, enough to fill about three and a half cups. This was liquid that had come out of my stomach and my insides while my body was lying in the coffin. This is why people knew I had indeed been dead. Inside the coffin there was a type of plastic sheet fixed to the wood. This sheet is placed there to retain a corpse's liquids, because many dead bodies release much fluid like mine did.
I learned later that I was just moments away from being cremated in the flames. In Myanmar people are placed in a coffin, the lid is then nailed shut, and the whole coffin is burned. When I came back to life my mother and father were being allowed to look at my body for the very last time. Moments later the lid of my coffin would have been nailed shut and I would have been cremated!
I immediately started to explain the things I had seen and heard. People were astonished. I told them about the men I had seen in the lake of fire, and told them that only the Christians know the truth, that our forefathers and us have been deceived for thousands of years! I told them everything we believe is a lie. The people were astonished because they knew what kind of a monk I had been and how zealous I had been for the teachings of Buddha.
In Myanmar when a person dies their name and age is written on the side of the coffin. When a monk dies, the monk's name, age and the number of years he has served as a monk are written on the side of the coffin. I had already been recorded as dead but as you can see, now I am alive!
Epilogue Since 'Paul who came back to life' experienced the above story he has remained a faithful witness to the Lord Jesus Christ. Burmese pastors have told us that he had led hundreds of other monks to faith in Christ. His testimony is obviously very uncompromising. Because of that, his message has offended many people who cannot accept there is only one Way to Heaven, the Lord Jesus Christ. Despite great opposition, his experiences were so real to him that he has not wavered. After many years in the Buddhist monk hood, as a strict follower of Buddhist teachings, he immediately proclaimed the Gospel of Christ following his resurrection and exhorted other monks to forsake all false gods and follow Jesus Christ with all their hearts. Before the time of his sickness and death he had no exposure to Christianity at all. Everything he learned during those three days in the grave was new to his mind.
In a bid to get his message out to as many people as possible, this modern-day Lazarus began distributing audio and video cassette tapes with his story on them. The police and Buddhist authorities in Myanmar have done their utmost to gather these tapes up and destroy them. The testimony you have just read has been translated form one of those cassette tapes. We are told it is now quite dangerous for citizens of Myanmar to be in possession of these tapes.
His fearless testimony has landed him in prison at least once, where the authorities failed in their bid to silence him. Upon his release he continued to testify of the things he saw and heard. His current whereabouts are uncertain. One Burmese informant told us he is prison and may have been killed, while another informant was told he is now released from prison and is continuing his ministry.

Dear Triplegem Members, The following message was posted to the NDE.com Website by someone called 'James' on 23rd July, 2000. (NDE = Near Death Experience). The Monk's story is identical. But the source is different. Details can be viewed at
<>
The message began with: "Buddhist Monk visits Hell" I believe this person died, body decay & rotten. He was then brought to those places by the LORD to show him some vision. <-------
This is taken from a mission paper "Northside Missions Update" Northside Christian Centre 31-61 McLeans Road Bundoora Victoria 3083 Australia
The same 'Monk's Story' followed. Then, exchange of interesting messages took place at the NDE.com Bulletin Board among NDE regulars, some of them are Christians, and finally, someone called 'Melvin', 'a Myanmar Buddhist', posted the following message and the discussion came to a close.
The fact that the same story has re-surfaced in another form (cassette), perhaps in a another country is a bit disturbing!
Best wishes to all our Triplegem members, MM Lwin
