2023.06.07 14:12 kyshiag CRV Repair: Windshield Wipers
I have a 2008 CRV. Has never really given me any trouble. Unfortunately, that also means that I am a bit unfamiliar with mechanics. Anywhoo. My windshield wipers are acting funny. The front sometimes works in all settings but most times only on the highest setting. The rear one comes on automatically when you start the car and will not go off for about 3 minutes. The rear does not really respond to me turning them on or off or using the washer. Mechanic says its the motor but it feels more electrical to me. Would a motor cause this. I did have the motor replaced in about 2010 due to a car wash incident.

My anxiety is debilitating. I am unable to drive on the highway at all—I can’t even be in a car as a passenger. I have a hard time with back roads as well, but it’s not as bad. I keep asking to work from home to avoid driving. I also struggle with work. I feel like I can’t handle it. I am 2 months into my new job and have called out once already for anxiety. I don’t want to call out anymore, but I physically couldn’t handle anything yesterday.

I was looking to trade in my car (2012 Toyota Camry with 300,000 miles), it hasn’t been driven or started in about 9 months due to my work having me outside of the state where my car is. It’s still a couple of weeks before I can get to my car again but im pretty sure it’s gonna have some problems when I get back so I’ve just decided to trade it in. My question is I owe about $8000 on the vehicle and from my research, if I trade in the car or sell I’ll get an estimated amount of about $4500, my plan was to trade it in for a 2001 ford Ranger with 90,000 miles that costs about the same. What will happen to the remainder estimated $3500 I owe will it be moved onto the new car?

What's the best way to swap it without paying a large amount of gas fees? Originally, I looked at Crypto.com or Binance, but these are centralized exchanges (CEXes) and I'm not really a fan of them. I'm looking for any good decentralized exchanges (DEXes) to swap with, ideally something that's a lot more private. I was considering UniSwap, Houdini Swap, or PancakeSwap. Hopefully, these don't have too many gas fees.
Maybe in the future, I would convert MATIC into actual cash when it starts to soar again one day. I could swap it for ETH first to cover the gas fees and then cash out. Let me know what you guys think. Any help is appreciated.

I would just like to state before I start, this collision happened in October last year and I have since bought a dashcam.
I was driving to work along a motorway with the typical reduce speed limits overhead, (from my recollection 40 mph), traffic was slowing to a stand still and I ended up being the middle car in quite a slow 3 car collision.
My version of events is that I slowed with enough time to stop but the car behind me didn't and sent me into the car in front. I am fairly confident of this but obviously was in shock at the incident and didn't have a dashcam at the time. My car (renault clio 22) has following distance warnings and I am always conscious of them when driving ( Only A Fool Breaks The 2-Second Rule ), especially in heavy traffic, so I am almost certain I had enough time to break and would not have hit the car in front had the car behind me not hit me first. But hey ho accidents happen and the main thing is no one was hurt really.
I did suffer a couple of bruises from the incident, I hit my head off the roof of my car and my knee of my steering wheel but that was about the height of it. As far as I could tell the other two drivers were fine and none of us had any passengers. We exchanged insurance information at the scene and took a few photos and then departed. I did give my number to both parties and the front car contacted me a few times about when her car would get fixed (she had never been in a accident before, neither have I for that matter). I informed her to contact her insurance and that they would deal with my insurance and the person behind me's insurance.
The car in front of me (vw golf) had a cracked number plate, probably rear bumper damage, my front bumper had a bit of damage but the main damage was to my rear bumper which knocked the boot out of alignment out making it nearly impossible to open. My horn was also broken in the incident. As far as I could see, the car that hit me had no visible damage, it was a more modern mini and I think the projecting plastic round the grill seemed to have been what made impact. I have since suffered heightened anxiety on the road (any time a car fills my rear view mirror it causes me a lot of fear or if a car pulls into space I have left for braking distance I get quite scared).
I have obviously provided all this information to my insurer, I only claimed for the damage to my car and did not pursue any injury claims or anything of the like. It took about 5 months for my car repair to be completed which was in March and the claim is still unresolved. I have renewed my insurance within this time and recently decided to check the status of my claim and received this message:
My question is what is the likely liability outcome here and when on earth can I expect a resolution? At this point I really don't care who's at fault and would just like the claim resolved. Surely joint liability would just be the easiest thing to do?
Any insight would be great.
Sorry for the length, I am just frustrated at the fact this hasn't been resolved and regretting not claiming for injury too now, giving the fact the woman at the rear is being so difficult.

The party at the front is holding us at fault for hitting them in the rear and the party at the rear is alleging your vehicle 'rebounded' off the car in front into her car and that she was stationary. We have disputed this and asked for any evidence they have to support this as it seems unlikely to have happened like that. I can't give a timescale on how long it is likely take to settle I'm afraid. "I honestly don't know how the car behind me is trying to argue this was all my fault. I do not believe her car was stationary and I don't really see how the more significant damage was caused from a "rebound". There are also no dash cams or witnesses that I am aware of, and obviously my recollection could be bias.

Me and my expwBPD bought an apartment together in the summer of 2021. We are in The Netherlands so the real estate system is perhaps a bit different from the US, but we are both owners of the apartment (equally) and also both debtors of the mortgage (also equally).
It’s a very, very long story, but I’ve only been able to live in the house for 1,5 months before I had to leave the house in January of 2022 because the domestic violence escalated very quickly and very badly. I feel I’ve escaped with my life.
Ever since I’ve left the house he said he wanted to keep the house and I was fine with that, that whole house was ruined for me anyway because of everything that happened there. I went NC 9 months ago except for contact through email that’s necessary for the handling of the house. It’s now one and a half years later since I had to leave the house and I’ve received countless and countless of emails from him saying that ‘’he’s in the middle of the process of his mortgage application’’ blah blah blah, NOTHING has happened. I suspect he can’t be approved for a mortgage because his income is too low and he knows this, and he’s just trying to string me along so he can stay there as long as possible. Recently I’ve emailed him I’m done and no longer want to facilitate him keeping the house and I just want to sell to a third party. Ever since then he’s decided to ignore my existence as if he’s not squatting in a house that’s owned by me.
This has kept going on for so long and everything he says is so nonsensical (his demands and version of reality are truly ridiculous) that I have no other option left than to sue him, so that’s what’s going to happen. It’s legally an easy and straight to the point case so I don’t expect any legal difficulties. I’ve hired a lawyer and the whole process of suing will start soon.
This is going to be hell because I know him well enough to know that he will experience this as the most victimizing thing that’s ever happened in the history of victimization and will feel 100% entitled to retaliate. It’s a very, very long story, but I’ve only been able to live in the house for 1,5 months before I had to leave the house in January of 2022 because the domestic violence escalated very quickly and very badly. I feel I’ve escaped with my life.
Ever since I’ve left the house he said he wanted to keep the house and I was fine with that, that whole house was ruined for me anyway because of everything that happened there. I went NC 9 months ago except for contact through email that’s necessary for the handling of the house. It’s now one and a half years later since I had to leave the house and I’ve received countless and countless of emails from him saying that ‘’he’s in the middle of the process of his mortgage application’’ blah blah blah, NOTHING has happened. I suspect he can’t be approved for a mortgage because his income is too low and he knows this, and he’s just trying to string me along so he can stay there as long as possible. Recently I’ve emailed him I’m done and no longer want to facilitate him keeping the house and I just want to sell to a third party. Ever since then he’s decided to ignore my existence as if he’s not squatting in a house that’s owned by me.
This has kept going on for so long and everything he says is so nonsensical (his demands and version of reality are truly ridiculous) that I have no other option left than to sue him, so that’s what’s going to happen. It’s legally an easy and straight to the point case so I don’t expect any legal difficulties. I’ve hired a lawyer and the whole process of suing will start soon.
This is going to be hell because I know him well enough to know that he will experience this as the most victimizing thing that’s ever happened in the history of victimization and will feel 100% entitled to retaliate. What's the best way to swap it without paying a large amount of gas fees? Originally, I looked at Crypto.com or Binance, but these are centralized exchanges (CEXes) and I'm not really a fan of them. I'm looking for any good decentralized exchanges (DEXes) to swap with, ideally something that's a lot more private. I was considering UniSwap, Houdini Swap, or PancakeSwap. Hopefully, these don't have too many gas fees.
Maybe in the future, I would convert MATIC into actual cash when it starts to soar again one day. I could swap it for ETH first to cover the gas fees and then cash out. Let me know what you guys think. Any help is appreciated.

Reposting this from uk personal finance cos the post got deleted and the mods started moaning about how it will never make sense to buy a new car financially if the old one still works, despite my question being about whether my budget sounds right so never mind trying here instead.
Am I being financially irresponsible replacing my car?
I’d really like to get a different car, but I’m worried that I’m not being sensible as I usually am very rigid with money.
I’m 23, currently take home £2350 (that’s after defined benefit pension contributions too - I’m also expecting my salary to increase by roughly 4.5% soon). I own my own house with my partner which costs me £600 for my mortgage and bills as we split 50/50. This includes £60 towards a three year 0% loan on a kitchen. This doesn’t include £40 a month for my phone which is 0% for two years. No other debts. No dependants.
I like to save 20% a month into my emergency fund, I don’t always do this every month though, but I’ve currently got £5000 in this pot and £3500 in another pot which I’ve committed to spending on new carpets and a sofa! I did have more but we’ve replaced the boiler and done the bathrooms up too.
I’ve had my current car for 5 years, I own it outright, 2015 reg and it’s probably worth about £4k. Truthfully there’s not much wrong with it as I’ve always looked after it, but I just don’t really enjoy driving it all that much. I’m also wanting to swap to automatic.
I’ve been looking at a PCP for a 2021 car which works out about £300 a month. Insurance would be £50 a month and I expect to spend about the same on petrol. Maintenance cost/tax etc would either come from the rest of my disposable income or savings.
I’d really like to be a bit insensible and treat myself, and I feel on paper that it’s affordable but could do with someone sense checking me. If I’m being an idiot then I need to hear it but likewise could just be me being a bit overcautious.

Hey everyone, we bought a car from a main suzuki dealer down in the south east of england (we are up in aberdeen). In the advert i saw photos of the full service history book, however when my partner got back upto aberdeen, service book was nowhere to be seen. I phoned the dealer was told it was posted a couple of weeks ago, first class however still not arrived. Phoned the garage back today, and they can get another one for us, was told that because they have pictures they can just write in the dates etc its been serviced, and the stamp if its been serviced by them. Probably a stupid question but is this the same as FSH like it was advertised? No beef towards the dealer btw shit happens and theyve been really helpful so far. Any advice?

I've had accounts with Fidelity for several years - multiple Roths, HSA, three 529's. Over a year ago, I opened a CMA and brokerage account to use a checking/savings account. Initially, the time for mobile check deposits and ACH transfers was around a week. I was told this time would reduce and around the 2-month mark both went down to 2-3 days for cash to settle. For the past month, it's gone back up to 5 business days. I deposited and check yesterday (6/6) for $4K and it isn't going to settle until 6/13. This inconsistency makes using the CMA a challenge. Is there any reason the settling time would go back to 5 business days? I love Fidelity but several banks I've used gave me instant access to mobile check deposits up to $20K.
