2023.06.07 13:34 BaseballSeveral1107 I HATE WINTER
It's cold. But when it's winter it must be cold. And that's the problem. You either have to pay for heat or get tired with getting coal or wood, starting the fire and checking it doesn't spread. Going out is a torture. You have to put in a dozen layers of clothes. Underwear, pants, short-sleeved shirt, long-sleeved shirt, sweatshirt, boots, neck warmer, hat, gloves. To go out to a shop that is on the ground level or just around the corner, you need all this wearing and getting tired. Winter clothes are heavy, limit motions, sometimes even visibility, and are hard to put on and put off. So buying those is hard and even if you do, then they're hard to walk in. Summer and spring don't have those problems, because you can put on clothes for outdoors and indoors, just change boots and you're alright.
And winter is such a great time to get sick. And the worst thing is having a stuffed nose and have to breathe with your mouth, with this cold air. Throat damage guaranteed, plus this pain in the face from the cold air blowing in your direction. Summer and spring don't have such problems. And winter has the highest amount of deaths of all the seasons. I literally got a frostbite because I touched snow with my bare hands because I didn't have gloves on them. And if you're healthy and put on the clothes, there's another problem.
Getting around. Most of us are rich and have a car and can drive wherever they want. But if you can't, you have to use public transit. I don't have anything about just using it or the fact of the existence of public transit, but the quality of those in Poland, where I live, leaves much to be desired. You have to wait, in cold. In a city this isn't a problem as big as in the rural areas where buses function. These are often coming only in early mornings and in early afternoon, but even if they come more often, they often are late. And no matter the location, you often have to stand, and even if you find a seat, you can sometimes smell people who don't shower very often. Trams, trains, metros and buses are often heated, like most indoor places, we'll get to that later, and people coming there in winter are usually in jackets and sweat in those vehicles, especially considering how crowded they often get and how warm those crowded people are. You'll sweat like a construction worker after 8 hours of work during a heatwave. And driving doesn't save you from the effects of winter. You have to scrape snow from your car, the engine can not start or the visibility is low and roads are blocked or icy, you can skid easily and crash into another car, a pedestrian, a pole or a tree. Walking does neither. If snow falls, it's crushed by people walking, melts and freezes again, and or forms ice on the sidewalk. And you can slip on it and either break something or die. Each time I walk on it, I think I'm gonna die. Either i slip on it and land on a spiked fence, I land on the sidewalk and break something, or I land on the street and get run over by a semi truck or a car. If you manage to get to your destination, there's another problem.
All the buildings are heated, so if you're in winter clothes, you're going to sweat like a construction worker after 8 hours of work during a heatwave.
It's dark half the day. You go to work or school, dark, you go back, dark. And the other half it's cloudy and grey. And the whole world dies. No leaves, no grass, no flowers, some animals hibernate, just grey, cloudy skies and white brown combination of snow, soil, water and mud. No sun. Sure, there are Christmas lights but let's face it, they are only to hide the grey and dark.
It's a hard time for students. The semester ends. You have to pass everything. They throw a lot of tests and quizzes at you. You will tire yourself to death.
Winter sports and games. Snowballs. I hate snowballs. Even if the person who throws one is someone I like. Usually, I take it easy, but in my mind, I hate it. Ice skating. I can't do that because the nearest lake or skating rink is too far away to walk. I could afford that, but I would need to wear all those clothes, get on the bus, ask my parents for approval, get back. No way. Skiing. I live in a city surrounded by forests and farm fields. No way. Sledding. Those are easier because I have some hills in my neighborhood, but going out, taking the sled, going back. Nope. Snowman. Going out. No.
And there are, CHRISTMAS IN WINTER. I'm fed up with them. Literally a few days after Halloween and All Saints Day, all the shops and malls are decorated, and Christmas songs are playing on the radio and Christmas commercials on TV. "Last Christmas, I gave you my heart...":“Christmas promotion! Bone carp, only 21.37 per package or a withered Christmas tree, 69.69 each plus delivery for 3.21. Holidays for Christmas, Old Zealand, 666.66 both ways. Christmas loans, only in Pierogi Bank Polski." Don't take Christmas loans, that's the stupidest thing you can do in that time of the year. They're still up everywhere, wherever I go, whatever I look at. Until the day finally arrives, December 24, when you are completely fed up with it. And it's not like I hate Christmas. Christmas in their current shape and theme are asking for dislike. You want to get up, leave, and come back when all this madness is over. But it's nice that we have time off and we get presents and meet our family. In the summer we have more free time, and on birthdays and name days we also get gifts and meet our family. But always something. And then there's another holiday.
New Year's Eve and New Year, when humans celebrate Earth going around the Sun once again, while nothing besides it happens in nature and humanity on those two days. You can do whatever you want on that day, and in my case, it'll be sitting on the couch in pajamas, watching TV and eating some unhealthy snacks like chips. Most people will spend it partying with friends and family and doing stuff together. And then, they will count from 10 to 1 like if a rocket was starting, and then fireworks explore, and dogs are scared. Afterwards, people will start to go home. And then you can't sleep the whole night because some idiots have too much fireworks and firecrackers, which is also a problem the whole winter.

2023.06.07 13:34 I_seek_the_grail4321 Last night I chose my family over my job
I'm an assistant director on my burner account. The company has introduced "Callback nights" to get enrollment up. No bonuses or raises, but we're expected to churn money for the company. These are in the late afternoon/evening hours. Last time we had one, I was closing anyway and I went through the people my director told me to but I didn't get much done because I was also doing closing duties. "No problem," she said, "just stay logged in." There were no problems, I was able to communicate because I was at work.
I have a family at home, husband and 2-yr-old. When I was hired about a year ago, I was told that we would split closing duties so we could each have time with our families. I go in at 8 and when I close, I'm there until almost 6, making I get to see my son for just enough time to put him to bed.
This week, I'm closing 4 days out of 5. Yesterday was not one of my closing days and I was able to leave a little early because I had a doctor's appointment. My director was also leaving and got one of the teachers to close for her. I was told explicitly: "You don't have to come back. You won't get paid, but you don't have to do much, make sure emails are sent and stay logged in." The email from the DM didn't list any contact goals, just an enrollment goal for the district.
I asked if I got paid for working at home and was told no, only if I came back in after my appointment (a half hours drive back and then another half hour home.) Fuck that. I scheduled some emails while I was still at work, stayed logged in on mobile, and enjoyed time with my family. I did send a few emails after an angry text from my director "why isn't there any activity, where are you, etc." I blamed mobile issues and told her I had been able to send out a few more.
I don't know what will happen when I go into work today. They can't fire me yet, but I have been job searching. And I have an offer for a part time job I haven't decided if I want to accept yet. They might write me up for insubordination, but I honestly did what was expected of me and I'll tell them that.
I am aware of being forced to work unpaid and will hold that in my back pocket. Not a battle I want to fight yet.
I don't regret any of it. At the end of the day, I was able to look in the mirror and say that I upheld my values. A job is today, a family is forever. Thanks for reading.
Tl;Dr: basically the title. Not sure what will happen, but I don't really care

2023.06.07 13:32 moondog151 The Kaifeng Debris Incident. Many people across various cities saw a mysterious light in the sky. Later that a piece of metal fell from the sky onto a man's yard. In the time since trees in the villages would die and one villager became severely ill.
| On June 23, 1990, at 3:00 AM many people across China's Henan province in Shishou, Baofeng Changge, Zhengzhou, Qinyang, Zhumadian and Luoyang all reported seeing what they thought was a row of orange and green lights in the sky. For these locales, the story ended there. But in the city of Kaifeng, the story was only beginning. On that day only a few minutes later at 3:02 AM Xu Xiaojin. Was sleeping on the roof of a local police station due to the heat inside when he heard a loud thundering sound and saw a fire ball streak across the sky despite daylight having broke. Xu was not alone, however, most of the locals couldn't sleep due to the hot weather and instead went outside where many others witnessed the object and heard the sounds. The sky and weather were clear so even before they saw the object they were confused by just the sound of thunder alone. Xu continued watching the fireball until something separated from it creating a small streak of light that plummeted to the ground and made a crashing noise. As the object detached over and crashed into a populated area. Xu immediately alerted all the officers under his command (who heard the sound but didn't see the object) about the incident and started a massive search effort for the object that had plummeted to the ground. The police went door to door questioning each resident about the fireball and were soon pointed in the right direction. The object was found in the courtyard of No. 24 Zhuanqiao Street in Kaifeng. The home was owned by Xing Zhijun who alongside his brother Xing Zhixiang, witnessed the object crash onto his property. According to Xing it all from high in the sky at a fast speed before colliding with a toon tree. The object destroyed many of the tree's branches and then collided with Xing's bicycle fast enough to bend the steel frame. Luckily no one was hurt (It only barely missed Xing Zhixiang) and property damage was limited only to Xing's bicycle (handlebars and frame). The object the fragment fell from was never located and no other "crashes" were reported. The flying object was estimated to be 10 to 20 meters long and 3 to 4 meters wide. It was in a slanted upward posture at first, then turned slanted downward, and finally disappeared horizontally to the northeast. The sighting lasted only 30 seconds. The lights reported in Shishou, Baofeng Changge, Zhengzhou, Qinyang, Zhumadian and Luoyang were later determined to be the same object seen in Kaifeng and was thus moving at a fast speed transversing the entire province in 2-3 minutes https://preview.redd.it/wguuida70l4b1.png?width=949&format=png&auto=webp&s=591723807b6fbe82eacab7f46e5eaed1139d19c0 https://preview.redd.it/23zypf990l4b1.png?width=920&format=png&auto=webp&s=fc00b12dde6698135a09a46ca0b26ee6043beff5 https://preview.redd.it/dev1uuv90l4b1.png?width=720&format=png&auto=webp&s=810ac3459db170c546b7a7a77dcd5d64d3cc04ea https://preview.redd.it/f6uivzoa0l4b1.png?width=856&format=png&auto=webp&s=7cd51d97a85c8537622e779ef2d8f57687d3c241 The police located the object underneath the bicycle and some branches. The object was unexpectedly cold which took the investigators by surprise since they were expecting the fragment to be at a high temperature. The fragment was 50 centimetres long and 8-11 centimetres wide with a spine two or three centimetres thick in the middle, thin edges on both sides and weighed 6-7 kg and was in the shape of a tile. The police brought the fragment back to the police station and took several photographs of it (These are not the pictures taken in 1990) https://preview.redd.it/guiqnajg0l4b1.png?width=1170&format=png&auto=webp&s=436661f8de9416b14b63c6b5fcd497a096750f60 https://preview.redd.it/aps8ixah0l4b1.png?width=1211&format=png&auto=webp&s=aab8f33d05aaee6ebee242febe0ee6ea11f44c20 https://preview.redd.it/kiynvcsh0l4b1.png?width=1182&format=png&auto=webp&s=c92be1a8847f6573cd8a0dd11340feb7995e00e1 https://preview.redd.it/60fxe57i0l4b1.png?width=640&format=png&auto=webp&s=2d71d78c946f67bc3dd2468689fbc3217bf2183e The story broke and became public on June 24 and Zhang Weimin a junior student in the Chemistry Department of Henan University and a member of the China UFO Research Association heard of the story and immediately set out toward Kaifeng. To ask the police about the object which was still in their possession. The police at first, believed that the fragment belonged to an airplane and contacted civil aviation authorities. They told the police that no planes were flying over the area at that time. Zhang Weimin Tests performed on the object determined that it was mostly composed of 89.03% aluminum, 6.84% magnesium, 3.83% silicon, 0.30% zinc, etc. Further tests also showed that it wasn't radioactive. Zhang who was given permission to study the object himself brought it to the Kaifeng Air Force Base and showed it to a mechanic Wang Fuyu. Wang said that the object was likely not a part of an aircraft as it was of a "much better quality" than aircraft parts. According to the Air Force base and Kaifeng Airport's records, no flights occurred during the time of the incident. Russian/Soviet and American records also recorded no flights over the area. Eventually, all leads were exhausted and the investigation stalled. The story isn't over, however. In 1991, one year after the incident. The trees in the courtyard of No. 24 Zhuanqiao Street where the fragment landed were in poor shape. Not only had the branches not grown back, but the rest of the trees and others that had not been struck by the object were withering and eventually died completely. Xing Zhijun, Xing Zhixiang and other family and neighbours were evacuated from their homes while officials conducted another round of tests and discovered no signs of radiation or danger to the public and were allowed back in their homes. The trees were not all that were still feeling the effects. In November of 1991, Xing Zhixiang arrived at his job at the Zhengzhou National Cotton No. 5 Factory when he suddenly fell ill and suffered a stroke collapsing at the gate. He was rushed to the Zhengzhou Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine by his co-workers. The doctors who treated him diagnosed him with a cerebral hemorrhage too severe to be treated and that Xing Zhixiang would likely soon pass away Xing Zhixiang remained in a coma for the next few days until he against all odds made a miraculous recovery and woke up. Xing Zhixiang said that he was conscious and aware when two people over two meters tall, wearing white clothes walked towards him. Xing Zhixiang described the men as aliens based on their skin being grey and their "inhuman eyebrows" He said to the two "aliens" that there was too much he had left to do and couldn't go. The two according to Xing Zhixiang then wordlessly turned around and left with him waking up immediately afterwards. Xing Zhixiang said that the two had likely cured him. Xing Zhixiang was kept in a ward with many other patients and no doctors were in at that time and the other patients said that nobody was at his bed. The doctors dismissed his story as a hallucination while he was unconscious. Although a rational explanation, for many UFOlogist and Chinese netizens this event happening to Xing Zhixiang specifically, the man who found that UFO fragment as well as his trees having not healed was deemed too much a coincidence for some. Xing Zhixiang From 2003-2006 the incident was revisited and a new investigation started. The fragment was still in possession of the Keifang police in an evidence locker. A new round of tests was performed on the object. It was suggested that the piece was 5A06 alloy which is a common aerospace material. It was suggested that the fragment may have been a part of a rocket, spaceship, satellite or missile but there were no records of any of those being launched in China on June 23, 1990, The origin of the fragment remains unknown. The story is confirmed real and is officially listed as unexplained by Chinese officials. The fragment is still in possession of the Keifang police to this day. Other surviving evidence includes Xing Zhixiang's hospital records remaining and in 2016, CCTV made a documentary on the case. The documentary interviewed several people including officers from the Keifang Public Security Bureau and various local residents of Henan province all of whom stand by their claims of seeing the object. Also interviewed was Zhang Weimin, various scientists and Xing Zhixiang's doctors and nurses. The case which is known as the Kaifeng UFO fragment incident/The Kaifeng Debris Incident is one of China's 4 main UFO cases officially acknowledged by the Chinese government and officially declared unexplained. (I have only one more UFO incident for my Chinese mystery series after this one and it's back to the murders and disappearances. At least until I run out of those)
On June 23, 1990, at 3:00 AM many people across China's Henan province in Shishou, Baofeng Changge, Zhengzhou, Qinyang, Zhumadian and Luoyang all reported seeing what they thought was a row of orange and green lights in the sky. 2023.06.07 13:30 AutoModerator Dangerous legal precedent about to be set if my eviction appeal is not granted
Tens of thousands of South Carolina mobile homeowners manufactured before 1976 & renting the land it sits upon, can be legally evicted without cause if the Appellate court upholds the verdict of my eviction based solely upon the wording of the 30-day notice of the end of the term of their expired lease agreement.
Many, if not most renters of land in a mobile home park, have leases for one year, which likely have never been renewed from year to year, as the law states.
If my case is not dismissed, it will become 'case law', which can then be used by any greedy, unscrupulous landowner who wants to own your home to evict you and take possession of your home, whether there exists no cause or reason for the eviction.

2023.06.07 13:30 BaseballSeveral1107 CMV: Winter is the worst season

Exploring this royal land can be an unforgettable experience, and one of the best ways to navigate its vast territory is by hiring a taxi service. In this comprehensive guide, we will delve into the advantages of using a taxi service for travelling in Rajasthan, highlight the must-visit destinations, discuss the best time to visit, and provide essential tips for a hassle-free journey. Advantages of Using a Taxi Service in Rajasthan - Flexibility and Convenience: One of the significant advantages of opting for a taxi service in Rajasthan is the flexibility it offers. With a taxi, you have the freedom to explore at your own pace, choose your destinations, and modify your itinerary according to your preferences. Taxis provide door-to-door service, ensuring a hassle-free and convenient travel experience.
- Local Expertise: Taxi drivers in Rajasthan are often locals who possess in-depth knowledge of the region. They can serve as valuable guides, offering insights into the historical significance, cultural nuances, and hidden gems of each destination. Their familiarity with the local language and customs can also be beneficial during your journey.
- Comfortable and Safe: Taxis in Rajasthan are well-maintained, air-conditioned vehicles that provide a comfortable and safe mode of transportation. This is especially important when travelling long distances between cities or exploring remote areas. Taxi services employ professional drivers who are experienced in navigating the region's roads, ensuring a smooth and secure journey.
- Cost-effective for Group Travel: If you are travelling with a group or family, hiring a taxi can be a cost-effective option. Instead of booking multiple tickets for public transportation or arranging separate private vehicles, a taxi service allows you to share the expenses among the group, making it an economical choice.
Must-Visit Destinations in Rajasthan - Jaipur: The capital city of Rajasthan, Jaipur, also known as the "Pink City," is a must-visit destination. It is renowned for its magnificent forts, including the iconic Amer Fort and Jaigarh Fort, as well as the enchanting Hawa Mahal and the City Palace. The city also offers attractions like Jaswant Thada, Umaid Bhawan Palace, and the bustling Sardar Market, where you can indulge in shopping for textiles, handicrafts, and spices. Book a Taxi service in Jodhpur or a Tempo traveller hire in Jodhpur to explore all the attractions of the city.
- Pushkar: Situated around the sacred Pushkar Lake, Pushkar is a prominent pilgrimage site and is famous for its annual camel fair. The town is home to the Brahma Temple, one of the few temples dedicated to Lord Brahma, as well as several ghats and vibrant markets. Don't forget to witness the mesmerizing evening Aarti (prayer ceremony) at the lake.
Best Time to Visit Rajasthan Rajasthan experiences extreme climatic conditions, with scorching summers and chilly winters. The ideal time to visit is during the winter months, from October to March when the weather is pleasant and suitable for outdoor exploration. This period also coincides with various festivals and events celebrated in the state, offering a chance to witness the vibrant cultural heritage of Rajasthan. Essential Tips for a Hassle-Free Journey - Plan your Itinerary: Before embarking on your journey, plan your itinerary carefully, considering the distances between destinations and the time required to explore each place. Discuss your preferences with the taxi service provider to ensure they accommodate your travel plans.
- Research and Book in Advance: Research different taxi service providers in Rajasthan, read reviews, and compare prices. Booking in advance ensures you have a reliable taxi service waiting for you upon arrival.
- Communication: While taxi drivers in Rajasthan often understand and speak basic English, it is helpful to carry a phrasebook or translator app to communicate effectively. Learning a few common Hindi phrases can also be beneficial.
- Stay Hydrated and Carry Snacks: Rajasthan's climate can be harsh, so it is essential to stay hydrated during your travels. Carry a water bottle and some snacks for the journey, especially if you plan to visit remote areas where food options may be limited.
- Respect Local Customs: Rajasthan is deeply rooted in culture and traditions. Respect the local customs, dress modestly, and be mindful of religious sites and practices. Seek permission before taking photographs, particularly of people, and be aware of any restrictions.
Conclusion Travelling in Rajasthan with a taxi service provides the flexibility, convenience, and local expertise required to explore this enchanting state. From the grand forts of Jaipur to the romantic lakes of Udaipur and the vibrant markets of Jodhpur, Rajasthan offers a myriad of experiences that can be best enjoyed with a reliable taxi service. 2023.06.07 13:26 digiftech Is Social Media Marketing Different from Digital Marketing?
| In today's digital age, marketing has evolved significantly, with various strategies and platforms available for businesses to promote their products and services. Two commonly used terms in the marketing realm are social media marketing and digital marketing. While these terms are often used interchangeably, it's important to understand that they have distinct differences. This article will delve into the nuances of social media marketing and digital marketing, highlighting their unique characteristics and benefits. Understanding Social Media Marketing Social media marketing refers to the use of social media platforms to connect and engage with a target audience for promotional purposes. It involves creating and sharing content on platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIn to increase brand awareness, drive website traffic, and generate leads. Social media marketing emphasizes building a community, fostering conversations, and leveraging the power of social networks to promote products or services. The Role of Social Media Platforms Social media platforms serve as virtual meeting places where individuals connect, interact, and share content. Businesses leverage these platforms to establish an online presence, create brand loyalty, and engage with potential customers. By utilizing features such as hashtags, user-generated content, and targeted advertising, social media marketing can reach a wide range of audiences, enhance brand visibility, and drive customer engagement. SEO vs Digital Marketing Understanding Digital Marketing Digital marketing, on the other hand, is a broader term that encompasses various online marketing strategies, including social media marketing. It refers to any marketing efforts that utilize digital channels such as search engines, websites, email, mobile apps, and social media platforms to promote products or services. Digital marketing is a comprehensive approach that integrates multiple tactics to achieve specific marketing goals. The Components of Digital Marketing Digital marketing includes several components such as search engine optimization (SEO), content marketing, email marketing, pay-per-click (PPC) advertising, and social media marketing. These components work together to create a cohesive marketing strategy that targets the right audience, drives traffic, generates leads, and converts prospects into customers. Digital marketing takes advantage of the vast reach and accessibility of online platforms to maximize marketing efforts. Differences Between Social Media Marketing and Digital Marketing While social media marketing falls under the umbrella of digital marketing, there are significant differences between the two: Focus and Reach Social media marketing primarily focuses on leveraging social media platforms to engage with a target audience, whereas digital marketing encompasses a broader range of channels and tactics. Digital marketing can include search engine optimization, content marketing, email campaigns, and other strategies that go beyond social media platforms. Objectives and Goals Social media marketing aims to build brand awareness, enhance customer engagement, and drive website traffic through social media channels. Digital marketing, on the other hand, has a wider scope, encompassing goals such as lead generation, customer acquisition, sales growth, and overall brand visibility. Targeting and Personalization Social media marketing allows for precise targeting based on demographic information, interests, and behaviors of social media users. Digital marketing, while also capable of targeting specific audiences, utilizes various channels to deliver personalized content and messages based on user preferences and behavior across multiple touchpoints. Measurement and Analytics Social media marketing relies on platform-specific analytics to measure engagement, reach, and the effectiveness of campaigns. Digital marketing, however, encompasses broader analytics that track website traffic, conversions, ROI, and other key performance indicators across multiple channels and campaigns. Benefits of Social Media Marketing Social media marketing offers several advantages for businesses: Increased brand visibility and awareness. Improved customer engagement and communication. Enhanced customer loyalty and brand advocacy. Targeted advertising to reach specific audience segments. Cost-effective marketing approach compared to traditional advertising methods. Benefits of Digital Marketing Digital marketing provides numerous benefits to businesses: Wide reach and accessibility to global audiences. Ability to track and measure campaign performance. Highly targeted marketing campaigns for better ROI. Opportunity to engage with customers across various channels. Cost-effective marketing solutions for businesses of all sizes. submitted by digiftech to u/digiftech [link] [comments] |
2023.06.07 13:26 thegreatJLP Help and ideas needed
I have a domestic shorthair that we took in as a stray about five years ago. Since then he's gotten a little overweight and isn't capable of cleaning spots on his back, leading to mats. Thing is, since we didn't take him in until after about 9-10 months of him being born, he tends to have a pretty wild streak and will claw and bite either my wife or I when we try trimming/shaving them off.
Our vet is nice enough to help us get these off during his visits, but every clipper set I buy to do at home, ends with him running away or attacking to get us to stop. I don't want to hurt him so I stop when this happens, and I'm here to ask for any ideas or tips that could help with this. I've looked into the mobile/groomer options in our area and most refuse to trim a potentially aggressive cat or are wanting like $200 per cut (mobile vehicle option).
Are there any specific trimmers, haiskin treatments, or medications (to placate him to make trimming easier)? We've tried the de-shedding brushes (causes him to bite), 3 different clipper sets (sold as "noiseless" but are louder than my hair clippers, mine are still too loud for it), and also dandehair wipes to no avail. He and our older longhair don't get along the best, so she won't help clean him and vice versa. I'm seeking actual ways to help my buddy, last thing I want is for him to be in pain constantly.
Sidenote-I've had bigger cats before, parents' cats, and never had an issue with them fighting when trimming them. This guy though, is another story. When he gets aggressive, he can do some serious damage and honestly, he's too strong for my wife to hold still.

2023.06.07 13:24 creppystories1325 Recived my disturbing fate trought my mail box.
I 31 M, am a dentist and i live in a very small town in Portugal with only 200 people in it. My life has always been kinda slow, i got trough school like a normal teen got a couole of relationships but they all ended with the girl i was dating leaving me fot a better looking guy, so i kinda Gave up on being in a relationship, after that i graduated got into a dentist school and got job pretty quick since my all family have been dentists and doctors, so yea i was a normal, lonely guy that worked eat slept repeat. Until one sunday i went to the mail box like every other one since i left my parents house, i lived in a strange apartment, where people sometimes went missing and where it ocurred a murder in 2004, but thats the best i could get with my single payout, i really want to move out but i dont see the day where a lady fall for me and wants to get married and move to the suburbs and have kids, so i gotta acept it rhis is my home like it has been for the past 10 years, anyway like i was saying i went to the mail box like a normal sunday to get the monthly bills, but this time there was a letter in a black envelope, and it was weird cause i never get mail and when i was going to open it up, i got this urge feeling to leave it and get out of there like if i was being watched, but at the same time the temptation to open it up and figure it out why my name was on it was stonger, so i was going to open but in my head i needed go to somewhere safe Somewhere public so that it nothing can happens. I got to the city café and i ordered a capuchinho, and i decided to open the letter and i unfold a 1 A4 that said that i was going to be taken away to a sacrafice in 3 days and 20 hours, at first i tought that it was just a joke some kids probably trying to have some fun, but then the lady serve me the capuchino with a 72 hours draw in it and i felt like my heart had stopped, i wonder how did she know, just pure coincidence? Is she the person who wrote the letter?, Nah she cant be, she would never guess that i would come here to open it, but still i was so frightened, i was feeling claustrophobic i needed to head out of there before i passed out, in the moment i left i ran to police to show them the letter and ask for help, and they said that i should be in a safe house guwrded by them for the next 3 days and thats where i went. When i was 4 hours left to the end of the countdown i start to see some shadows moving outside the window, and i started to worry but i tought police would deal with it, but then i saw police talking to them and i overheard the conversation and i found out that all 200 people were in the woods waiting for me for a ritual they were all part of including the police, they were trying to fool me to letting me think i was safe when in fact they were with them all along. I escaped trough the window and now im running for my life, i dont think i will make it cause its the all town i neeed to leave this place but im alone in the dark running, and that when i saw the light across the trees i ran and ran cause i tought it would be some gas station so that i could hide in until morning but, so i ran qnd i passed a bushe and there it was a giant bonfire with all the people from the town dressed with masks surrounding me making a circle around m,e this is it i got caught, the letter was right...

2023.06.07 13:23 Comfortable_Bug2930 New build estate, neighbours suddenly avoiding us
Just posting out of curiosity really, wonder if anyone else has had this happen before.
For the first two years after moving in we we’re really close with our neighbours. BBQ’s together, invited into each others homes. Sharing items and gifting each others kids etc.
We’d chat often and appeared to get on very well. We used to share a front garden and would take turns cutting it etc. In the summer they would hop over the back fence and our dogs would play together etc. They shared personal info about themselves and vice versa. I considered them friends. It was very pleasant.
My neighbour had an accident at work and damaged his back, he told me about this and I offered support. However from this moment onwards they started acting strange.
They began to ignore us, they just stopped talking overnight and we could sense an atmosphere. I made an effort for a while thinking I might be imagining it but it was clear I wasn’t.
They stopped cutting our section of grass and only did their own (we used to make jokes about this being a sign on feuding neighbours on the estate). They began placing their bins on our land, blocking our access.
They then without mentioning began making changes to the shared front garden. And just today, they have now just put their house up for sale.
Honestly it is what it is, I’m not losing sleep over it. However I am racking my brains trying to understand what happened and why they turned into difficult neighbours overnight.
Really weird.

2023.06.07 13:20 10ele Upgrade from the Alpha 1.1.. is the emonda sl5 the right choice?
So I’ve been riding the alpha 1.1 (white/red) for around 10 years now, mainly to commute to and from work in the city.
I did go on the occasional 20k ride here and then and every time I do I tell myself I need a new bike since the one I own is showing it’s age and has been badly (my fault) maintained. So ever since my last ride which was a week ago I was looking at all kind of bikes around and since I’m a stick toa brand kind of guy (illness?) I was looking at the 2021(22?) emonda sl5 disc in its white coat.
It’s on sale here right now so I could potentially save 500 euros. I don’t know if anyone has had experience with both bikes and whether there is a huge noticeable difference between the bikes but I kinda want to get it And looking for reasons to get talked out of it (weird shit).
I’m torn here

2023.06.07 13:20 _ibisu_ I never thought this day would come
My super anxious, traumatised, everything-reactive wolfdog has let a man (A MAN) stare at him while standing right in front of him, WHILE HOLDING A SMALL DOG IN HIS ARMS.
What. The hell. I could not believe it. Before I could say "sorry, can't talk to you, my dog is reactive", my dog literally just sniffed around, glanced a few times while mildly interested, and when he wanted to bark, he looked at me. He looked at me. I reassured him with a quiet command we have. And then he didn't bark, and continued sniffing the grass. The man kept talking to me, being a nice man, saying how pretty my dog is, and how well-behaved he is. Telling me about his own wee dog, who is 14 years old and was wagging his little tail at my dog.
No lunging, barking, growling, hair standing perfectly flat on his back. He patiently waited until we finished the conversation, and we were on our merry way. This might seem like the smallest thing, but for a dog that has been rescued, has shows all kinds of anxious behaviour, has been attacked by loose dogs, has been hit repeatedly by children and men while a small puppy, and left alone for days on end... I genuinely never thought this would happen. He is such a good dog otherwise, but walks, especially in the city, have always been very stressful because of all the reactions he showed. There's been slow but sure improvement in the 2 years we've lived together, and most of that has been thanks to patience, love, and understanding.
Safe to say he got so much yummy food when we got home, and I was holding back tears the whole time.

2023.06.07 13:19 Definition_Novel Some facts about Lithuanians who fought for the USSR
| Lithuania had the most Soviet partisans out of all 3 Baltic states, with an estimated 7- 10,000 operating in Lithuania during the Nazi occupation. (From Wikipedia.) About 5,000 people, many being Lithuanian citizens, gave their lives defending Lithuania during the early moments of the German invasion (from Wikipedia.) Most of the following info is from an interview with Lithuanian Soviet veteran Julius Deksnys from the Russian language newspaper Obzhor, translated. -The 16th Lithuanian Rifle Division is often considered the most diverse division of the USSR. In it, ethnic Lithuanians, Lithuanian Jews, Russians, Poles, and other ethnicities in Lithuania were represented. There was also the 29th Lithuanian Rifle Corps, which unlike the 16th Division, the 29th was filled with deserters who fled to the enemy. However, most of the soldiers of the 29th Corps who chose to stay with the USSR who didn’t desert were eventually sent to the much larger 16th Division. Among those who stayed with Soviet forces was heroic Lithuanian Soviet lieutenant general Vincas Vitkauskas, the only Lithuanian to receive such rank. The 16th Rifle Division did not generally have a desertion problem, and most of its members were committed to defeating both the German and Baltic fascist enemies. (From Wikipedia.) -in Vilnius in 1944 sometime before liberation, 1,417 soldiers were recruited to the Red Army. Of the Lithuanian citizens recruited to the Red Army from the city that year, 898 were from the Polish minority of Lithuania, some of whom served in the Polish Armed Forces of the USSR. 5,000 Lithuanians participated in the East Prussian offensive. 8,000 Lithuanians participated in the Soviet liberation of Berlin. The 16th Lithuanian Rifle Division is well known for its defending of the Russian city of Oryol, where a memorial exists, as well as its amazing feats in the Battle of Kursk, the Klaipeda and Siauliai offensives, and the battles against Latvian SS in the Courland Pocket in neighboring Latvia. Of the 16th Lithuanian Division, 9,255 soldiers of all ethnicities died in battle. When measured strictly for ethnic Lithuanian casualties, the number is 5,040. In all units of the Red Army total, 40,000 Lithuanians went missing, never to return home. 80,000 were confirmed dead. 253 memorial monuments were built to the veterans of Lithuania throughout Lithuania, many of which unfortunately are decreasing in number due to the right wing government as well as ultranationalist sentiments of much of the ethnic Lithuanian population, whom have replaced many Soviet veterans monuments with ones to fascist collaborators. Regardless of troubling circumstances in present day Lithuania, some Soviet veterans, among them ethnic Lithuanian veteran Julius Deksnys, who leads a support group for Soviet veterans. Not mentioned in the following article, Deksnys has been fighting fascism since the very beginning of the war in the Baltic states. He willingly enlisted in the Red Army to avenge the death of his father after his father was killed by Lithuanian nationalists for being a communist. Towards the end of the war, when Deksnys was captured on the battlefield, nationalist Nazi collaborators took Deksnys prisoner and he was sent to a Nazi labor camp, where he survived to Soviet liberation. He had much to say about the mistreatment of Soviet veterans in modern Lithuania in an interview a few years ago, which I will post much of his lengthy statement below, where I have fixed certain translations typing errors: “After the collapse of the Soviet Union and the restoration of the statehood of the Republic of Lithuania, veterans of the Great Patriotic War had to solve the problems that arose with the change in the socio-economic, political and ideological system of the country. The most offensive for veterans was the statements of politicians, then enshrined in law, that Lithuania did not participate in World War II, and on May 9, 1945, the day of the Great Victory over fascism, seemed to be the day of the second occupation of our country. Attempts by some Lithuanian politicians and historians to rewrite the history of World War II, distort it, to show the period of fascist occupation of 1941-1944 as a noble mission of Nazi Germany to liberate Lithuania from Bolshevism, to justify the crimes of accomplices of the occupiers against humanity are a monstrous lie. In fact, during the Second World War, the issue of the life and death of the entire Lithuanian people was resolved in the most brutal way. After all, according to the plans of the Nazi leaders, Lithuania should have disappeared in the future like a drop of water on a hot stone. We are urged not to forget the lessons of the war to remember the huge human losses during the years of fascist occupation, including the victims of the Holocaust, the soldiers of the Red Army and Soviet partisans who died for the liberation of Lithuania. The Soviet-era veteran organization and its Republican Committee of Veterans ceased to exist in 1990. Many participants of the Great Patriotic War, citizens of a once great and powerful country, faced the need to decide on citizenship in the newly created independent states of the former Soviet Union. This is how citizens of Russia, Belarus, Ukraine and other countries appeared in Lithuania. But they were all united by one thing - the fighting past, the fighting brotherhood and the memory of the Victory over fascism. the combat history of the Lithuanian national unit, the combat service of the intelligence officer of the 18th separate reconnaissance company Paulius Širvys, later an outstanding poet of Lithuania, who was often compared to Sergei Yesenin, is especially noted. But few people know what a brave intelligence officer he was. P. Širvys distinguished himself in many battles and was awarded the Order of Glory of the 3rd degree and two medals “For Courage”. His romantic poems and poems dedicated to the soldier are read and recited by both young and old. Composers compose music based on his words, organize concerts. When communicating with young people, you are convinced that many young people did not know that their favorite poet during the war was a combat scout, my combat friend. My platoon commander of the same reconnaissance company, Hero of the Soviet Union Boleslovas Gegzhnas and many other soldiers and officers of the division, deserve good memory. People died in those hard battles. During the entire existence of the division, 9,255 fighters have died, including 5,040 Lithuanian soldiers. But how do young generations know about it? In the programs for studying the history of secondary schools, only the fact that such a division was during the war is mentioned, but nothing is said about its heroic combat path, combat exploits. Almost 40,000 Lithuanian residents mobilized to the Red Army did not return from the war. The memory of them is sacred. It will not be possible to emasculate from public consciousness, forget the heroic and decisive role of the Red Army in defeating fascism, denigrate the feat of Soviet soldiers, forget about the victims of the Holocaust, about 80,000 soldiers who gave their lives for the liberation of our Motherland. From 1946 to 1948, military memorials were created in cities and districts, in settlements where major battles took place, where the remains of Soviet soldiers were transferred from solitary graves and mass graves. In total, there are currently 253 military memorials and graves in Lithuania, many have monuments, there are memorial plates with the names of the fallen soldiers. Since 2000, with the support of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Lithuania, repair and restoration work has been carried out on military graves. But recently, extremely negative trends in the fight against monuments of the Soviet past have been increasingly manifested in Lithuania. Monuments of special artistic and historical value created by Lithuanian classic sculptors are being demolished. I mean sculptural compositions on the Green Bridge in Vilnius, as well as monuments to Hero of Soviet Union Marytė Melnikaitė in Zarasai and twice Hero of Soviet Union pilot Yakov Smushkevich in Rokiskis. The most important attributes of the life of veterans, the object of their well-deserved pride are combat awards for feats on the battlefields. Orders and medals have Soviet symbols: red star, sickle and hammer, the image of Supreme Commander-in-Chief Joseph V. Stalin. For this reason, wearing them in everyday life is prohibited at the legislative level. This is not only a moral insult to veterans, but also a direct violation of human rights. Such laws have contributed to the activation of ultranationalist sentiments and neo-Nazi manifestations. Cases of vandalism actually encouraged by the authorities at the graves of Soviet soldiers, the demolition of Soviet symbols from monuments have become more frequent, even though they are included in the register of cultural heritage. What will remain of this kind of intervention? Naked memorial steles and plates... The most interesting thing is that the main argument for such actions is the statement that Soviet symbols offend the feelings of a large social group of people affected by Soviet power. But it is permissible to ask: are veterans who did not spare their lives, health in the fight against the Nazis deprived of feelings and the right to memory of their dead comrades? At the origins of our veteran organization were front-line soldiers Juozas Adamonis, Algimantas Stankevičius, Petras Eidukas. With Algimantas Stankevicius, I happened to serve in the first platoon of the first company of the first battalion of the 156th Rifle Regiment of the 16th Lithuanian Rifle Division. On January 27, 1945, we walked together in a chain of attacking warriors, freeing Klaipeda from the Nazi invaders. Stapas Shimonis, becoming chairman of the organization in 1993, did a lot to unite its members, her admission to the World Federation of War Veterans. At the General Assembly of the Federation in Seoul, he was elected a member of the executive committee. After him, since 1999, the organization was headed by Petras Eidukas, who was awarded the title of Honorary Chairman in 2015. Unfortunately, he passed away this year. Despite his 92 years, Nikolai Mikhailovich Riskov, chairman of the veteran organization of the Šalcinunkai district, works actively. On his initiative, a museum of participants of the Great Patriotic War was opened in the district center of Šalcininkai. This is the first museum of its kind in Lithuania, which was opened on July 16, 2014, to the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Šalcininkai and Vilnius. The museum contains a collection of photos of front-line soldiers and Soviet partisans who participated in the liberation of the district or lived after the war, as well as various copies of documents of the war years, military memoirs, books about the war. Relatives bring combat awards, various documents of deceased veterans to the museum. Schoolchildren come to the museum, solemn events dedicated to Victory Day, the Day of Liberation of the district are held here. During the celebrations dedicated to the 65th anniversary of Victory Day, N. Riskov decided to post photos of deceased veterans, residents of the Šalcininkai district, at the city grave of Soviet soldiers, next to the graves of the deceased liberators of the district. This action attracted residents and was continued. People began to bring photos of deceased relatives. This is how the idea of the “Immortal Regiment” was born in Lithuania. Today it is bitter to admit that Lithuania has enough of those who are trying to forget the lessons of the Nuremberg Tribunal, which condemned not only fascism in all its manifestations, but also Nazi accomplices. The names of the latter are now called streets and squares, they are honored as national heroes. And war veterans, the winners defeating fascism, have become outcasts of society, the authorities do not pay any attention to them, even in the days of the celebration of the end of the war in Europe, there is not a single kind word for them, let alone gratitude. Nationalist youth call our awards trifs, we are forbidden to wear our combat awards only on the grounds that the orders and medals depict Soviet symbols.” -Julius Deksnys, from an interview with Obzhor newspaper issue # 1041, Dec. 24,2016. Much thanks to the Russian-Lithuanian language publication Obzhor.lt, whom conducted the interview with Julius Deksnys that I had to translate with a webpage translator as I cannot read Russian. Most importantly, thank you to Julius Deksnys for protecting the Soviet veteran memory, as he is one of my personal heroes whom inspired me to archive photos of Baltic Soviet veterans. submitted by Definition_Novel to sendinthetanks [link] [comments] |

2023.06.07 13:14 NewYork-CityAdvisor 🗽📜 New York City: Unveiling the Tapestry of History 🌆🌟
| Newyorkcityadvisor New York City, often referred to as the "Big Apple" or simply "NYC," has a rich and captivating history that spans centuries. From its early beginnings as a Dutch colony to becoming one of the world's most influential cities, New York has played a significant role in shaping American culture, economics, and social progress. Let's explore the fascinating history of the city: - Early Settlement and Colonial Era: New York City traces its origins back to the early 17th century when the Dutch established a trading post called New Amsterdam in 1624. It served as a vital hub for fur trade and attracted settlers from various European countries. In 1664, the English seized control and renamed it New York.
- American Revolution: During the American Revolution (1775-1783), New York City was a strategic center and a battleground. It served as the British military and political base in North America until its evacuation in 1783. The city played a crucial role in shaping early American independence and was briefly the capital of the United States in the 1780s.
- 19th Century Expansion: The 19th century marked a period of tremendous growth for New York City. The completion of the Erie Canal in 1825 connected New York City to the Great Lakes region, facilitating trade and transforming it into a major port. The city's population exploded as immigrants flocked to its shores, seeking economic opportunities and contributing to its diverse cultural fabric.
- Industrialization and Immigration: New York City experienced rapid industrialization during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Industries such as manufacturing, finance, and commerce flourished, making New York a global economic powerhouse. Waves of immigrants arrived, primarily from Europe, seeking the American Dream. Neighborhoods like Chinatown, Little Italy, and Harlem became vibrant cultural enclaves.
- The Gilded Age and Progressive Era: The late 19th century and early 20th century saw the rise of the Gilded Age, characterized by immense wealth and stark social inequality. The city's skyline transformed with iconic structures like the Statue of Liberty, Brooklyn Bridge, and Empire State Building. The Progressive Era brought reforms to improve living conditions, labor rights, and political corruption.
- 20th Century and Beyond: In the 20th century, New York City became a global center for finance, culture, and the arts. It witnessed significant events such as the construction of skyscrapers, the roaring 1920s, the Great Depression, World War II, and the post-war boom. The city faced challenges like urban decay, social unrest, and the 9/11 terrorist attacks but demonstrated resilience and a spirit of unity.
Today, New York City remains a bustling metropolis and a melting pot of cultures. It is home to iconic landmarks like Times Square, Central Park, Broadway, and Wall Street. The city's neighborhoods offer diverse culinary experiences, museums, galleries, and world-class universities. New York City continues to shape global trends in art, fashion, finance, technology, and more. Exploring the history of New York City is like stepping into a time machine, witnessing the city's transformation from humble beginnings to its status as a global icon. Its vibrant history serves as a testament to the indomitable spirit of its residents and the enduring allure of the "City That Never Sleeps." 🗽🌆 #NewYorkCityHistory #BigAppleChronicles submitted by NewYork-CityAdvisor to u/NewYork-CityAdvisor [link] [comments] |
