2023.06.07 10:50 Zoolok Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart is really, really good
I saw the news that the game is coming out on Steam soon, so I thought to share my experience with it. I know it's not the oldest game out there, but it's been out for two years now, and you can get it as part of PS+ on Playstation.
I actually got the game on a disc together with the console, but I initially tried it for 10 minutes, thought it was too childish, and dropped it. I went back to it few weeks ago and I'm really glad I did, it's one of the most fun experiences I've had in recent memory.
If you're like me, then this is your first contact with this franchise - I've never played a Ratchet and Clank game until now - so here is a brief story summary: Clank makes a device called the Dimensionator that would allow the two of them to jump between parallel dimensions in order to find other members of Ratchett's species. The main antagonist, Dr Nefarious, steals the device and uses it to move to a dimension where he is the ruler of the galaxy/universe, but in the process causes all parallel universes to collide with each other and threaten the stability of the multiverse. Ratchet and Clank follow him and there they meet their parallel universe counterparts, Rivet and Kit. The four of them combine forces to stop Dr Nefarious and his parallel-universe counterpart, Emperor Nefarious, by building another Dimensionator to stop the Nefariouses once and for all (?).
This game really has a lot going for it:
First thing you'll notice is the looks. It looks amazing, and runs smoothly (on a PS5). Most of the time, you will feel like you are playing a pre-rendered cartoon, not a game. The sound design is also incredible, and the game makes exemplary use of the PS5 controller, both with the adaptable switches, but also with the controller's speaker. It's a technical marvel, and I experienced zero glitches or issues while playing it. The character models are also very detailed and beautifully animated.
The world and level design is also excellent. Levels vary from open spaces to narrow corridors, sprinkled with "pocket dimensions", tiny levels that you can find in hidden places that are very different from "normal" levels, and usually give you a reward for finishing them. You will visit vast cities, deserts, underwater facilities, the mentioned pocket dimensions that float in open space, as well as specialized levels for Clank (he solves logical puzzles that are just right to give you a short break from the action) and a fifth character, Glitch, who is an anti-virus program that you will control to access infected computer terminals and clear them from viruses.
Gameplay mechanics is where the game shines best, though. The weapon design is phenomenal, they come in all sorts (melee, close range, long range, indirect weapons) and you can really find a playstyle you enjoy. How you get experience is also very well done - the more you use a weapon, the better you are with it, which is reflected in the weapon getting better stats and perks for upgrades. So basically, the more you use the weapon the better it gets, there is no "general" levelling of characters. But this works really good, and the game will force you to use a variety of weapons by lack of ammo, or by battle challenges in an arena you can visit in game. But the creativity is amazing - you can headshot enemies with a sniper from a far, or melee them, or hit them with classical minigun, shotgun, rocket launcher weapons. Some enemies are armoured, for instance, so the solution for them could be to upgrade the shotgun to armour-piercing rounds, or use a weapon that throws grenades from above, or maybe use the one that sends bots at enemies to distract them, so you can hit them from behind, where the armour is weaker. The gunplay here is one of the best I've ever had, and coupled with adaptive triggers and excellent and responsive controls, it's just pure fun to play.
You can also find bits of armour and special abilities if you explore the maps and the levels. You don't need them to finish the game, but they do affect it (sometimes to an extreme - you can even get infinite health or ammo by exploring the game). There are also two different types of mounts that you can ride in certain levels, one flying, and one that acts like a speedboat, though you do that only in specific missions.
When it comes to missions, there are a few side quests, all done really well and different, not the usual fetch-quests we see most of the time. If it is a fetch quest, then it's to learn about the lore (which was surprisingly good to me).
Enemy design is also good. They are varied with very different behaviours and abilities, and you will not get bored at all. I counted five total groups of enemies, each with varied members. Then there are the bossfights - some of the most epic, fun I've ever had, with the final bossfight being especially entertaining. By then, you should have almost all weapons in the arsenal, which makes the battle incredibly entertaining.
Finally, there is the characters and the story, and that was the biggest surprise to me. The game is on the childish side (I think), but the characters are well written with actual arches, and the story is well done, coupled with seemingly interesting lore. Don't expect levels of top-tier story games, but it will surprise you how good it is, and on top of that, the voice acting is amazing.
All in all, this is a lot of fun, and I highly recommend it as a fun and relaxing experience that really values your time.

2023.06.07 10:49 ASGfan Episodic Review - The Odyssey (S5, E24)
Nice opening shot of water tumbling over the rocks as Dylan, a local boy, paints with Laura and Albert watching on. He paints portraits of nature and the water and things like that. He’s a regular Bob Ross! Dylan mentions of a dream to see the ocean as he promised his late father. Later at home, Dylan is working on a painting when he gets a nosebleed. Mom notes that’s the third one this week, so a trip to Doc Baker is in order. The next sequence is incredibly sad as Dylan is diagnosed with leukemia and Mom has trouble digesting the news. Dylan has met up with Laura and Albert outdoors again and announces plans to go see the ocean. On the way home, Albert informs Laura he will accompany Dylan. Laura wants to do the same but has some lingering doubts, so she asks Pa in the “What would you do if you had a month to live, I’m asking for a friend’ variety. Laura is now onboard with Albert in running away. If you’re going to run away, you call the experts.
CARRIE SCREEN TIME ALERT! Carrie finds a letter in one of her birthday presents and starts to read it. That’s a pretty ingenious way of getting Carrie to say her lines, actually. Laura stuffed a note in there about running away. The kids enlist the help of an older guy named Zeke to distract the rather angry train employee so they can illegally board the train to stow away. If the train employee isn’t scary enough, the threesome are quickly joined by another stowaway who looks like he’s on something. He steals their sandwiches, then a little later he makes a play for Dylan’s art case. I’m not sure if he’d be interested in art supplies, but Albert refuses to hand it over. The guy then tries to shove Albert off the train (!), but Laura pushes him off instead and helps Albert back on to the train. Charles catches up with Zeke, who blabs about where the kids are headed. Charles bops over to Hertz Rent-A-Horse and makes use of a train stop to catch up with the kids. Charles threatens whoopings for all of them. CHARLES INGALLS THREATENS TO BEAT OTHER PEOPLE’S TERMINALLY ILL CHILDREN! Dylan doesn’t want to go back. Charles tries to dissuade him, but quickly finds out it’s rather pointless to try and talk someone out of fulfilling their dying wish. CHARLES INGALLS HELPS CHILDREN RUN AWAY! Charles doesn’t have the money for a train (shock), so….CHARLES INGALLS ILLEGALLY BOARDS TRAINS AND HELPS CHILDREN TO STEAL!
The next morning, Dylan and Albert are the first ones up. Dylan mentions he’s hungry, so Albert goes over and cons a different train employee out of sandwiches, apples and milk. Charles is up by the time Albert returns and Pa gives his son what can best be described as a light slap on the wrist for stealing. Charles is all “well you stole the food, we might as well eat it.” CHARLES INGALLS KNOWINGLY USES STOLEN PROPERTY! Once again, meal time is interrupted, this time by the angry train employee from earlier. Charles actually thinks he can reason with him and justify the stealing, which is really stupid when you think about it. The train employee starts the eviction process, but…CHARLES INGALLS BEATS UP PEOPLE FOR DOING THEIR JOB AND ALMOST KILLS A MAN IN FRONT OF HIS CHILDREN! Charles actually wins a fight for a change. Must be a blue moon out. Pa lays it out very clear, saying he will pay back the money for the stolen food (but not the stolen fare!), and tells him nothing’s gonna stop them from seeing the ocean. I personally think they should have spit flying from Charles’ mouth for effect just like in the Grange-Chicago episode, but it still gets the point across.
The next morning, the quartet arrive in San Fran, just a few miles from their destination. They don’t seem to be in any particular hurry, stopping at the local mission for soup. Charles manages to hitch a ride with some guy I’ve never heard of named William Hearst or something. En route to the ocean, Charles holds Dylan’s hand and strokes the side of his face. Wha? Ah, the William Hearst guy owns a newspaper and wants to use Dylan’s story and offers to pay Charles for it. Charles declines, apparently thinking he has a magic transporter that will whisk them all away to the Grove when this is over. After some coaxing, Charles eventually accepts the money, though we never get to see if he makes good on his word to pay for any of the things he stole. And what happened to that horse? Anyways, Charles carries Dylan, who looks like he has taken a turn for the worse, to the Pacific Ocean (wouldn’t the Atlantic have been closer to Minnesota?) One has to wonder if that’s the ocean or just a collection of tears Charles has cried throughout this series. But I guess I shouldn’t make fun since Dylan gets his wish and now you’ll have to excuse me, because I have something in my eye.
THE JERRY SPRINGER FINAL THOUGHT -- This is my all-time favorite episode, which made it my all-time favorite review to do. A mixture of adventure and drama that blended well together. Sad, but with as happy of an ending that could be expected under the circumstances. Dylan was never seen or heard from again, although (sadly) the actor that played him -- Steve Shaw -- did die relatively young via a car accident in 1990. Charles committed crimes left and right, although he has that uncanny knack of bringing you over to his side of thinking. And Albert was a master con artist and grifter by this point.

2023.06.07 10:46 lechatheureux The Tonpa Kingdoms Part 1 (Overview and The Gods)
(First I'll provide a bit of context, this is a timeline of Earth where several pagan religions have survived into the Medieval age, I'm focusing on the region around the Himalayas where a religion of my making called Tonpa has spread from the desert to the Jungle, I've changed the names of the Geographical features and real life religions and areas/Kingdoms around a bit so let me give you a guide. )
Jangshun - Tibet.
Monyul - Bhutan.
Taishigang - Nepal.
Tsaparang - Bangladesh.
Khotesh - Khotan/Xinjang basin.
Dharmist - Buddhist and Hindu.
Tengger - Tengri.
Boncho - Bon.
(This is going to be split up into several posts, just a warning)
An overview of the 5 Tonpa Kingdoms.
In the Himalayas region, stretching from the Khotesh basin to the north-west through the snow-capped mountains and down the jungles surrounding the Brahmaputra delta, are 5 Kingdoms that have a shared history, connected by one religion.
The religion is known as Tonpa and it sprang from ancient beliefs in the Jangshun plateau, and spread to encompass an impressively large area, beating out several other religions, most notably Boncho and Dharmism and grew to resist attempts to conquer its lands by Tengger and Confucian forces.
---We, the people of Tonpa know in our hearts that the Universe is a giant river and all stars and planets are floating through it, destined for the Great Lake of Rebirth, the Cosmic River starts from a giant fountain where the 3 Universal Gods brokered peace with one another after a great 30,000 year war, the souls created as fighters in the war gained worldly bodies and were greeted by the 3 Universal Gods.
In the great fountain, two places were created, the one atop the fountain a joyous place of life and celebration, but under the fountain a cold place formed, one of constant death and torture, the 3 Universal Gods declared that all shall experience both these places, the righteous shall see the bottom place first to cleanse themselves of their life's transgressions before being rewarded with time among the 3 Universal Gods, the wicked shall see the joyous place first, for even the wicked cannot go their entire lives without doing good and seeing a paradise lost when their good deeds reward expires is a punishment unto itself.
“You shall see the least of your deeds first” Promised the Universal Gods, for once your mortal deeds are rewarded and punished then your soul shall spring forth from the fountain and become the water that carries stars and worlds along the Cosmic River, once your soul reaches the Great Lake of Rebirth, you are carried to a world where a newborn body awaits your soul, if you are righteous enough you will be carried to a world that is destined for the Great Lake of Rebirth for once a world enters the Great Lake of Rebirth the soul ceases to exist and once a soul ceases to exist it spreads its will across the Universe and becomes an unknowing part of life itself.
The 3 Universal Gods give every star a world that revolves around it and every world 3 Earthly Gods to govern in their stead as avatars.
- Excerpt from “The Sagas"On Earth the three gods that Tonpa follows are are.
Daiden - The Father
Daiden's is considered to be the overseer of the arts and intelligence, any pursuit that involves the calm mind and intelligence is seen to the realm of Daiden.
The religious text of Daiden; The Sagas is the oldest of the three texts and the stories contained in the text are thought to be much older. It is said that the followers of Daiden, honour him by engaging in righteous intellectual thought and honest pursuit. The animals associated with Daiden are.
The Monkey – The Monkey is the main animal associated with Daiden, they are intelligent, communal and unpredictable, the long-standing ruling dynasty of The Kingdom of Jangshun has the sigil of the Monkey.
The Elephant – The Elephant is wise and gentle despite their heavy weight and large size, they quickly band together to eliminate threats when a member of their community is in danger.
The Eagle – King of the skies, the Eagle is powerful and insightful, an Eagle landing before you is seen as a sign of tremendous good fortune, they keep a keen eye on the ground and can spot tiny details from afar at great speeds. The Royal guards of Jangshun adorn themselves with Eagle feathers and have motifs of eagle heads on shields and weapons. The Father is also associated with rain as in times of rain people are often inside and rely on intellectual pursuits to pass the time.
Groups associated with Daiden are.
Rain Society – Rain Society see themselves as the rain that brings growth, they talk with young devotees of the two other Gods and challenge them to go about their worship and associated pursuits in more intellectual ways. The Monkey Society – The Monkey Society are a guild for anyone involved in theatre, actors, writers, theatre owners, they send troupes out to remote communities to entertain them, they read scripts to find great playwrights and they make and repair props.
Caihong - The Mother
Caihong's realm is considered to be practical skills like farming, hunting and medicine, fulfilling and nurturing, Caihong is prayed to every year in spring hoping for a bountiful harvest.
Caihong's religious text is The Observations, the newest of the three sacred texts in Tonpa. Adherents of Caihong are caring but at times exclusionary, like a mother favouring her own family.
The animals associated with Caihong are.
The Fox – The Fox is the main animal associated with Caihong, they are clever, practical and they are known for building safe homes for their family.
The Bear- The Bear is fiercely strong and will use that strength to protect their family, Bearskin armor is worn by people that are dual graduates of The School of the Mother and The School of the Dragon.
The Bee – The Bee is small but they are caring of their community, they protect their Queen with their life and provide honey and wax for people.
Caihong is associated with sunshine as an allegory for the light and warmth of motherhood.
Orders associated with Caihong are.
The Order of the Fox – The Order of the Fox devote themselves to making and repairing furniture, because Foxes are expert home builders, The Order of the Fox honour the Fox by donating furniture they make to people without and repairing items that break.
The Order of Spring - A group of doctors that make it their mission to heal anyone in need, they are based in Taishigang but are spread throughout the Tonpa Kingdoms.
Druk-Ta - The Dragon
Druk-Ta is the God of War, wind and thunder, their realm is seen as being anything that requires intensity, both physical and mental, games, sport and trade are also seen as being governed by them.
The animals associated with Druk-Ta are.
The Snake – The main animal associated with Druk-Ta, the snake isn't seen as evil in Tonpa, rather a cunning protector of itself and its land, humans that fail to respect the snake's territory are punished, there is a saying often repeated by The Dragon Priests “You would take 10 steps and be bitten by 20 snakes” Meaning “ You are reckless.
The Tiger – The most feared hunter of the plains, the large Tiger population on the plateau of Khotesh is said to have protected the Tonpa Tribes from a large-scale invasion from a Tengger horde, the Tigers, sensing an opportunity for food attacked the Tengger camp at night, leaving the horde with a high number of injuries and casualties.
The Crane – Graceful and resourceful the Crane isn't an animal one would normally associate with a god of war, however the Dragon Priests take inspiration from the Crane's tempered movements and the resourcefulness of their diets.
Wind and thunder is associated with Druk-Ta as they represent the mental and physical intensity of the Dragon God.
Orders associated with Druk-Ta are.
Company of the Wind – The Company of the Wind are a large guild of merchants and couriers, they specialise in the procurement of rare goods for well-paying collectors, originally trade was seen as the realm of the Father but since trade caravans kept being attacked it was moved to the school of the Dragon by unanimous decision among the three temples, their reasoning was that if merchants knew how to fight trade could be protected better.
Dragon Company – Dragon Company are a mercenary company consisting entirely of transgender and non-binary warriors, as Druk-Ta is seen as genderless, people who fall outside of male and female are seen as being of Druk-Ta.
Company of the Hand – The Company of the Hand are an elite fighting force that place a strong emphasis on physical fitness, to join their ranks you must perform an obstacle course in a satisfactory time, the gruelling course is said to eliminate 9/10 of all applicants, to advance in rank in the Company of the Hand applicants must perform the same course with weights around their wrists and ankles, these weights are a badge of honour and are worn at all times outside of battle, sleep and granted leave, the more bands of weights, the higher one is ranked.

2023.06.07 10:46 Noldro [Online][5e][EST][GMT+1] Player looking for a group that loves roleplay more than stats
Hey, My name is Gabe (He/Him), I'm 25 and from germany. I want to say thank you for reading this first, and I hope you have an amazing time Playing whatever you are playing :)
About me: I have played DnD for a few years now, and have been both a game master and a player. In both roles I try to make everybody feel included in the game and just have a good time. I'm not a powerplayer and generally don't like making characters that are really good or powerful, I'd rather make a nice thematic character that can work together with others.
I also have a good mic, camera and know how to use Foundry and Roll20
I am a decent human that likes all other humans too, i dont care who you love, what you identfy as, or what you believe in, just also be decent please.
Other fun things about me, I have an amazing wife, a dog, a pigeon and three Guinea pigs. I love everything Warhammer, Mass effect and spend most of my time playing video games when I'm not working.
What I'm looking for: the best would be a nice roleplay heavy group with more emphasis on the story and the characters themselves than running from one combat encounter to the next. I mind if it's a module or a Homebrew campaign and is open for everything. Best would be if the game happens sometime after 6:00pm GMT+1 during the week, since the weekends are busy for me.
I'm looking forward to talking with you more! just write me here, send a DM or write me on Discord: Noldro#0135

2023.06.07 10:45 VinnieDawgg Builder base 2.0 Honoust opinion
| Builder base 2 has been here for a few weeks now, so now we can actually have an accurate opinion instead of shitting on an update within 24 hours. Personally, there are some pros and cons. Pros- I really love the new concept, the lesser troops but more epic troops, it was really fun that supercell switched things up a bit. The loot system is very nice as well, I remember a few years back when we had to wait every single day to gain some freaking loot sheeshh. I think this is my top pro about this update. The idea of 2 bases with lesser attack time is a great one too, makes you think twice about where to place troops or when to use their ability. The new leagues are very neat as well, very nice add-on. Unfortunatly im gonna have more cons than pros.. -Cons Troops are not balanced correctly, many troops are way too OP, like the Pekka, or some not even worth it to use since they became completely trash, like the Balloon for example. The trophy system is not working properly, I have been in the top 50 of my country for a very very long time but since bb2 it feels way harder to gain some actual trophies. (This may be because there were a shitload of gemmers who instantly had everything maxed out, which is also a big problem, Supercell pushing the pay-to-progress idea) Building upgrades are super expensive and take way too much time to upgrade in comparison to the previous upgrades. Xbow is useless since if its on air, they attack with ground and when its in ground they go with air attacks. Nice to have an xbow if it actually made a difference. The obstaceles in stage 2 are way top expensive compaired to the elixer gaining. Like 80k for a stupid root? Forrealll? The battlecopter is just not it, the dps is so low I could literally cry. This is a freaking hero after all.. After all, I love that supercell finally did something with builderbase since me and many others were maxed out for years already but honoustly I am not enjoying it like I used too and I wont be playing it as much as I used to. I’ll be doing my attacks every day to get maxed out again and i’ll leave it for what it is.. BringBackBB1 submitted by VinnieDawgg to ClashOfClans [link] [comments] |
2023.06.07 10:45 ComposeTheSilence College Theatre and Originality
Why aren't more colleges putting on plays written by students, indie, and/or established local playwrights? When I was in college, we did so many well-known plays and I remember being so bored with it. Now, don't get me wrong, I love theatre and appreciate these big well-known plays, but it's frustrating not seeing more variety and style.
Colleges, at least the ones I went to, seem to shy away from local and indie playwrights who have great scripts. I feel like it is a real disservice to exclusively do these well knows works, instead of integrating local or independent talent. For students, especially, I think it could be a great way to hone their craft and creativity.
Is there a reason for this?

2023.06.07 10:44 chaindrinkingteadiva [QCrit] YA Fantasy - TIDESPEAKER (87K)
Hey
PubTips, please tear my query apart. Q: HOUSE OF SALT AND SORROWS (2019) - too old to comp??
Dear Agent,
I’m excited to share with you TIDESPEAKER, a YA Fantasy complete at 87,000 words. TIDESPEAKER can be pitched as ‘MANSFIELD PARK with magic’. It will appeal to fans of the gothic atmosphere and coastal setting in HOUSE OF SALT AND SORROWS by Erin A. Craig, as well as the neurodivergent protagonist and enemies-to-lovers romance in UNSEELIE by Ivelisse Housman.
As soon as Orith Fraine, a Floodmouth, turns eighteen, she's sent to serve a noble family on a lonely tidal island. It's a dangerous position for one of her kind - Orha, who can speak to the elements - since she's expected to wrangle with the monstrous tides that constantly ravage the Queendom's coastline.
If that wasn’t upheaval enough, Orith is offered a deal by rebel Orha group, the Cage: spy for them on House Shearwater’s island and help them break down the family’s defences. In return, they’ll reward her with a safer position elsewhere. Plus, she’ll find out what happened to her only friend, who went missing from their training institution after failing an exam.
Orith is thrown headlong into a new world: one of menial chores but also glittering balls, political intrigue and lethal secrets. She’s repulsed yet strangely captivated by the four aristocratic Shearwater siblings, particularly the younger son, Llir, who, like his brother and sisters, is hiding something. Something big.
As the Shearwaters are threatened by a rival House, then play host to a pair of charismatic visitors, Orith finds herself rapidly running out of time. Her loyalties grow murky, her missteps more destructive, and she soon finds herself forced towards a risky allegiance, a bitter betrayal and the making of even deadlier enemies.
I’m a neurodivergent copywriter who has worked with words for over a decade, and live in Hampshire with my husband and toddler daughter.
Thank you for your consideration!

2023.06.07 10:42 FalseCogs Will, soul, manifesting, and retrocausality
There are some areas where I remain confused about
conscious wavefunction collapse or other models of personal
agent causation. And there are some concerns I have about the moral sensibility of certain assumptions.
Definition of terms
- Will is the tendency of a material or causal set or subset in the absence of external influences or constraints. The scope of origination, or causal inclusion, of said set is up for debate.
- Want is synonymous with will.
- Soul is the originator of some portion of the will manifested in the behaviour or effective outcome of the body or its surroundings.
- Manifesting is the non-physical or untraceable causal efficacy of will over matter or over wavefunction collapse.
- Retrocausality is chronologically backward causality, or future affecting past.
- Magical thinking is a type of thinking characterised by loose causal inference, or more specifically loose or bleeding boundaries between mental objects and or their associated affect (emotion). An example would be the mental coupling of proximate but functionally unrelated events, such as the coincidence of certain thoughts and events, or certain numbers and outcomes (superstitious thinking).
Agent scope, or delineation of will
Imagine a balloon filled with air. Consider each part -- the rubber and the air -- as two separate entities. Each on its own has certain will. And these wills oppose. Yet when taken together as one
composite entity, new will emerges. This may be written as follows, where brackets denote material or causal set, acting as an agent:
- [rubber] wants to contract.
- [air] wants to expand.
- [rubber + air] wants to find and maintain equilibrium.
In the same style, we may consider
undue influence: - [person] wants uncoerced action.
- [undue influence] wants something else.
- [person + undue influence] wants coerced action.
- [coerced action] - [uncoerced action] = [undue action].
Role and function of soul
We may thus assume that if bodies have souls, then the will as expressed by the body is that of
[soul + body], or
[soul + animal instinct + conditioning]. With this in mind, what is the nature or will of
[soul]? What aspect or portion of will derives from the soul? What does it want on its own, independent from the body and the body's natural inclinations?
Many people have claimed that only humans have souls. Seemingly the main differences in terms of will between humans and other animals are that:
- Humans are usually of higher intelligence, able to devise more complex instrumental plans;
- Humans are often obsessed with social hierarchy and other symbolic pursuits;
What difference, or portion of difference, does the soul provide?
Many worlds and quantum collapse
One seemingly popular proposition is that the soul is connected or synonymous with consciousness, and that consciousness effectively chooses which of many worlds one ends up in by controlling quantum wavefunction collapse. About this proposition I have some questions:
- If consciousness chooses the world, then does that mean the soul, or "real you", is in only one such world?
- If so, does your body in the others become a philosophical zombie or NPC?
- If not -- if you end up in all such worlds -- then how is the soul choosing anything?
- In the case of NPC yous, if each "real person" ends up in only one world, then would that entail statistically that everyone else in your chosen world is likely a zombie?
Sensibility of assumed manifest
There is a phenomenon known as the
just world hypothesis, where people assume that good things happen to good people, and bad things happen to bad people. As a corollary, the presence of good fortune may be taken to indicate good character, and vice versa for bad fortune. But is this belief sound? Do chaos and chance not play a part in one's fortune? Are there not immoral behaviours that result in personal gain at the expense of others?
The idea that one's personal soul or consciousness chooses the world seems similar to the just world hypothesis. If one could manifest the future this way, or perhaps even manifest the present through retrocausality, then surely one is morally responsible for the hand one receives -- or so the assumption of conscious manifest may go.
This type of reasoning may be the result of
magical thinking, or loose inference, mixed with the desire to feel in control over random events. For example, one may surmise, "I
received this hand, and I
want this hand, therefore [retroinference] I received this hand
because I want it". Yet when the wanted state of affairs fails to manifest, one may deflect with "I didn't really want it that much" (rewriting the past) or may blame its failure on outside interference. Moreover, this style of attribution can easily be applied to other people, particularly those with lesser fortune -- "they didn't care enough" or "their soul wasn't worthy".
Those in positions of power have historically used very similar logic in the form of
divine decree, predestination, or similar -- where their position was ordained from above, thus legitimising any fortune, and offloading blame for any resulting harm.
When conscious manifesting and the just world hypothesis are embraced, moral reflection becomes unnecessary. Harm and failure can easily be dismissed by lack of care, or by divine desert -- "you can't
disprove these positions, so there's nothing wrong with hurting people, as long as
I benefit".
Those who stand to gain from past luck or future exploitive intent have plenty of reason to deny the role of randomness, or the harm in exploitation. But there is at least one argument that may be made. This is to compare the long-term viability and success of systems based on opposing sets of causal assumption. One key, however, is to adjust for inter-group exploitation and interference. For example, it would be fallacious to conclude that morality is undesirable since the more exploitive entity -- at the expense of the more honest entity -- had greater gains. The very nature of morality, after all, is about
group happiness -- the more inclusive and reliable, the better. Yet operating under the just world hypothesis and the assumption of conscious manifest is among the most selfish, status-quo-maintaining things to do.
With that said, obviously it can be challenging, or even infeasible, to falsify a negative -- such as to prove there are not individual souls. But is it better to operate under selfish assumptions, or is it better to have compassion? Do groups that believe in souls and conscious manifesting do better, or do groups that believe in soulless causation do better? Which makes a happier world?

2023.06.07 10:42 TwoHour4182 I'm not sure if I have to give it a shot
Hello,
I'm an old Diablo player. I started at the age of 6 with Hellfire, watching my brother play, and when there was nobody at home I'd launch the game to play as a bard (I think it was a hidden class in the Diablo expansion, developed by Sierra).
Except I was too scared to go down the church, so I stayed in the city.
A few years later, it was Diablo 2, and my brother gave me the complete box set when the expansion came out. I only played Assassin and a Necro-Bone. I remember trying the Druid build in the manual... It sucked like crazy! Officially, Blizzard advised you to put everything in Strength and Life, and only those two stats, and that's what I did... Anyway, Diablo 2 was my first multiplayer experiences. My first viruses on open Battle net, lots of fun. I think it was thanks to Diablo 2 that I got a virus that put naked ladies on web pages. Diablo 2 made me discover my male body.
Then Diablo 3, which I bought when RoS came out. It's probably the Diablo I've played the most. It was my game while I was travelling for scientific conferences in Europe . I'd take my switch out to the hotel, and that was all I did all night. It went on for several years. I remember my rift runs more than some scientific conferences!
What I really like about Diablo, more than other ARPG/H'n'S, is the way it builds up power and the chill you get playing it. They're the only games that get me into a flow where I'm not thinking about anything. The outside world no longer exists, my head is empty, and it's only the numbers that count and keep rising.
I haven't bought Diablo 4 (yet). As you can see, I tend to wait for the expansions. But it's mainly because I never had the money... Now I can. And there's a class that looks just like the assassin. But the scaling and the feeling of progression really scare me on Diablo 4. Because that's the most important thing, along with itemisation. I want to be happy with having orange. I want the satisfaction of finally beating a boss after a failed first attempt.
And now I'm a bit lost. I get the impression that scaling kills that feeling of progression, but I get the impression that everyone says it's not a big deal and the game is fine without it.
I hesitated to play PoE instead, but just thinking that I'm going to fail my build anyway doesn't motivate me.
When you play Diablo just for the feeling of progress, just to relax, is Diablo 4 worth it? Would you recommend it to someone who says "I just want to become powerful, not think too much, and see my enemies explode in spurts of blood"? I'll be honest. For a game like Diablo, I'm not looking for a challenge. If a mob dies in more than 6 seconds, I get the impression that the game is too slow.
And with the feedback, I don't know what to think, and maybe I have too particular kinks with these games, so I'd rather ask.
Cheers !

2023.06.07 10:39 quills32131zz 33 [M4F] Japan - meet new people!
I am a Japanese male, 33 years old, living in Japan. I would like to talk to people who are currently living in Japan or planning to come to Japan, mainly from outside the Asian region. My hobbies are simple, playing PC games, watching European football on TV, anime, movies and foreign dramas. Mainly Netflix. I would love to build a new PC and play the latest PC games, but the current exchange rate is hell for Japanese PC gamers. LOL. But I would like to upgrade my PC specs by the end of this year if possible. I am also not familiar with J-Pop, K-Pop, etc. I think there is a significant time difference, depending on the region. So I do not care about your reply speed. So don't worry about my reply speed either. I especially prefer people who don't mind if we don't chat every day. Please don't send me reddit chats if at all possible, as access to them is quite often unstable and difficult to check. Please also quit strange business invitations. I do not like to talk about politics or religion either. I am not looking for language exchange. I would be very happy with your simple self introduction attached. My English is at the level of a child, so I use machine translation to avoid rudeness when posting. Thank you for reading.

2023.06.07 10:39 M1730193 I feel sad about my life. What should I do?
Dear brother and sister, I hope you can spare some time to read my story and offer advice. I assure you it won't take more than 10 minutes.
I am a 28 year old man currently living in Jordan.
In 2012, I completed the tenth grade but made a regrettable decision to leave school. Being a teenager, I wasn't making the best choices. I started working in various places like stores, restaurants, and factories. When I returned home, I would play online games on my computer with other players. This continued until the end of 2014.
In February 2015, due to my addiction to online games, I became curious about game programming. I started exploring the field, including game and website programming. In 2017, I focused on learning Android application programming, which I continue to do till this day. I stopped playing games three years ago. I worked on a freelance platform for Arabic clients, developing Android applications and fixing customer app issues. I completed work for 47 clients, with 95% positive reviews, thanks to God.
In 2019, problems entered my life when I fell ill with perfectionism. You may ask what perfectionism is. You can find information about it on YouTube in Arabic and English.
Let me continue my story. In 2019, I fell ill with perfectionism. Whenever I tried to start a new programming project, I couldn't finish it because I wasn't satisfied with the code. I would delete the entire project and start again, hoping to write better code. But every time I failed, even though the code worked correctly, I felt it should be rewritten to appear cleaner than before.
In 2021, I closed my account on the freelance platform because I realized my perfectionism was causing significant problems. I knew I would receive negative reviews if I continued working in that state.
In 2022, I found an advertisement from a company seeking a programmer to develop an application. At first, I hesitated due to my perfectionism, fearing failure. However, I eventually contacted them and received the project. The deadline was two months.
While working on the application, I procrastinated as usual, searching for perfect ways to write the code. Unfortunately, I couldn't deliver the project on time, which caused problems with the company owner. I was threatened, and I had to rewrite the code without focusing on perfection, but rather on making it functional. I finally delivered the project after three months instead of two.
In 2023, I took a wrong path and had three illicit relationships with women who were paid for their services. The first relationship was in January 2023, the second during Ramadan, which was a grave mistake, and the third was a week ago.
I used up all the money I earned throughout the years on these women, and now I have no money left. I only have two Jordanian dinars in my pocket. I have no more money and I'm financially ruined.
Recently, I have been experiencing symptoms such as fever, nighttime hallucinations, muscle pain, and a sore throat. I am concerned that these could be potential indicators of a medical condition, including AIDS, which is causing me distress. Regrettably, I am unable to afford the cost of a medical test or even cover transportation expenses, which may amount to approximately 15 Jordanian dinars.
No one in my family or relatives knows about my problems. They only see me as a failure, even the closest ones. I suffer from severe depression, and I fear things may worsen. Maybe this is divine retribution?
I've been praying regularly since I was young, but without sincerity. Three days ago, I tried to humble myself in prayer and repent to God, but I feel like a hypocrite instead of being genuinely sincere. It feels as if my heart has died due to the many sins I've committed. I've tried desperately to repent sincerely, but to no avail.
I had hoped to work in my field and build a family with my future beloved wife in the Gulf or America. However, I'm now filled with despair. I'm at a loss for what to do, especially with the nightmare of AIDS haunting me.
My advice to you, my brother and sister, is to never follow the path of the devil. It only brings momentary pleasure followed by a lifetime of regret.
I kindly request the admin not to delete this post, as it would be the greatest favor they could do for me.
I kindly request that you provide respectful comment to ensure that this discussion is conducted in an elegant manner, without resorting to personal attacks or treating me as if I were a criminal. Thank you for your understanding.

Little did he know that this childhood curiosity would shape his destiny and lead him on a remarkable journey. Licensed by Yonnatan 2.Become a prehospital care operator "My decision to be a pre-hospital operator was due to the fact that, as a result of a violent event, I had to have the need to know what to do in the event of such an event, since on that afternoon in October 2018, on my return home, I was attacked by unknown personnel with a firearm. Fire and when repelling the aggression, I realized that a person was injured, and with my minimal knowledge at that time, he gave me the guidelines to be able to attend to him, and from there arose the need to improve day by day in matters of security and prehospital care since it is an obligation that someone who is in the security field must complete their training. After an attack and not knowing what to do in front of the injured and it was my decision to be a medical operator." Yonnatan's life took a dramatic turn when he found himself caught in the midst of a violent attack, feeling helpless and unsure of how to assist the wounded. This pivotal moment ignited a fire within him to become a medical operator, someone who could provide crucial pre-hospital care in such critical situations. In October 2018, Yonnatan witnessed a violent attack where a bystander was injured. Though he tried to help, Yonnatan lacked the medical skills to properly respond in such a situation. This traumatic experience spurred his decision to become a prehospital care operator so he could save lives during emergencies. Similarly, the brand in my new courses implements that the general population and in the field of security and emergency care are aware of the quality of all the materials offered by the brand." Intrigued by their offerings, he delved deeper into their products and purchased his first Individual First Aid Kit (IFAK) in June 2022. 2023.06.07 10:39 gesundheit1996 [TOMT][SONG][Late 90s-Early 2000s][Dance/Electronic][sounds like “Children” by Robert Miles]
Growing up my family had that big black CD holder book that would hold like 50 disc. Parents were German immigrants who had the WIDEST variety of music CDs. Would always play random CDs for fun. Idk if the song was on a mix or was the artist(s) own album. Sounds VERY similar to “Children” by Robert Miles. As far as lyrics all I remember is a female voice saying something about a train. “The train” or “catch the train” or “missed the train” then the bass drop similar to “Children”. Song started with a slow intro and buildup as it progressed on. Very European club-y like. (hence the German immigrant parents who DEFINITELY did drugs til the sun rise in nightclubs) don’t know if it helps but I think the CD was like like yellow or baby blue I think.

2023.06.07 10:33 lowqot__ [cw: sa] Made very uncomfortable by a joke that my friend made about me
I was hanging out with a group friends, there were about seven of us or so. Me and my friend were the only girls. We’re all incredibly close.
We were all just sitting around and talking when I ended up getting into a little playful debate with my friend, and she responded by joking about how she was going to rape me.
It hit me very hard and i stormed out. I ended up crying alot which caught me really off guard because that usually doesn’t happen when im angry. I just felt really confused, like if it was one of my male friends who made that joke i would’ve cut them off in a heartbeat and never spoken to them again, but i just couldn’t (and still cant) fathom why the only other woman in that room would say something like that. I think whats worse is that none of my other friends called it out, despite me telling all of them on multiple occasions that i wasn’t okay with sexual assault jokes of any form due to past trauma.
She apologized to me very profusely. And i accepted because she seemed to legitimately, sincerely, be sorry about what she did, but also because i was worried she would hurt herself. She wasn’t threatening to do it while talking to me, i only found out through her posts on social media - it definitely wasn’t an abusive move to garner sympathy or anything.
We’re on good terms now, everything is back to how it used to be, but i still feel uncomfortable. Not just about her, but all of them. I don’t know if i should distance myself, confront them, etc especially since this is my main support network. This is mostly what im trying to figure out. I just dont think i could take something like this happening again.
(Btw, something tells me this is probably relevant, but we’re between the ages of 16-20. The friend who made the comment is 16, i turned 17 a few weeks ago, the others are 18-19 and the oldest friend is 20)

At San Diego Comic-Con in July, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson had other people raising eyebrows when he said that his long-awaited superhero debut in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse would be the beginning of “a new era” for the DC Extended Universe naturally followed: What did he mean? And what would that kind of reset mean for the remainder of DCEU's roster, including Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, the rest of the Justice League, Suicide Squad, Shazam and so
on.As
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse neared theaters, though, Johnson clarified that statement in a recent sit-down with Yahoo Entertainment (watch above).
“I feel like this is our opportunity now to expand the DC Universe and what we have in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, which I think is really cool just as a fan, is we introduce five new superheroes to the world,” Johnson tells us. Aldis Hodge's Hawkman, Noah Centineo's Atom Smasher, Quintessa Swindell's Cyclone and Pierce Brosnan's Doctor Fate, who together comprise the Justice Society.) “One anti-hero.” (That would be DJ's Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.)
“And what an opportunity. The Justice Society pre-dated the Justice League. So opportunity, expand out the universe, in my mind… all these characters interact. That's why you see in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, we acknowledge everyone: Batman , Superman , Wonder Woman, Flash, we acknowledge everybody. There's also some Easter eggs in there,
too.So that's what I meant by the resetting. Maybe resetting' wasn't a good term.only
In addition to being Johnson's DC Universe debut, “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” is also notable for marking the return of Henry Cavill's Superman. The cameo is likely to set up future showdowns between the two characters, but Hodge was completely unaware of it until he saw the film.

2023.06.07 10:31 dwredbaker Rulers should exemplify temperance~D. W. "Red" Baker
Ecclesiastes 10:16,17~" Woe to thee, O land, when thy king is a child, and thy princes eat in the morning! Blessed art thou, O land, when thy king is the son of nobles, and thy princes eat in due season, for strength, and not for drunkenness!"
"Woe to thee O land"~A woe is pronounced upon a land, for nations depends strength depends upon sober and diligent rulers.
- The child here is not of age, but rather childish, foolish leaders sobriety of a mind controls by wisdom.
- The conjunctive and indicates the child is compared to excessive luxury by princes, or leaders, if you will.
- the next verse indicates the child king is contrasted to a king with nobility and proper training.
- What does a childish king/leader do? They play rather than soberly engage themselves for his nation, the people he is serving. He does not rule/guide the government which he is over, to practice temperance.
- This world has had a few excellent rulers, but ONLY a few.
- King James 1 of England wrote a commentary on revelation at the young age of 18. The issue is not age, but character, self-discipline, and gravity. In my lifetime, I have yet to see one such leader.
- A nation is on the brink of destruction when its leaders are foolish and luxurious. Much of what we see in our day!
And they princes eat in the morning~There is no sin in eating breakfast, but the lust of the flesh for luxurious gluttony and drunkenness is sin, which our next verse indicates is the foolish corruption under consideration.
So obsessed with partying that they start early and do it often.
We all have been there:
1st Peter 4:2,3................ "
That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God. For the time past of our life may suffice us to have wrought the will of the Gentiles, when we walked in lasciviousness, lusts, excess of wine, revellings, banquetings, and abominable idolatries:"
Apart from the grace of God would still be there, enjoying every minute of it. But such a lifestyle of gluttony, drunkenness, are ruinous. Destruction is just right around the corner.
Blessed art thou, O land when they king is the son of nobles~The issue is not birthright, but rather the character and proper training. The primary issue in any leader or ruler is an issue of
character! Exodus 18:21; 1st Timothy 3:1-13. And they princes eat in due season, for strength, and not for drunkenness. - Temperance, contrary to the Temperance Movement, is moderation, not abstinence.
- We live in the days of eating, drinking, in an excess, which we must avoid. Moderation in ALL things is the mark we all should aim for and set an examples for our children and their children to follow.
- The excess of food and alcohol corrupts one's sensibilities in many ways. Proverbs 30:7-9......
"
Two things have I required of thee; deny me them not before I die: Remove far from me vanity and lies: give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with food convenient for me: Lest I be full, and deny thee, and say, Who is the LORD? or lest I be poor, and steal, and take the name of my God in vain."
What did Agur request? He then asked God to give him only convenient and modest success (
Pr 30:8). He wanted to avoid both poverty and wealth, knowing that each brought its own set of temptations and trials (
Pr 30:9). He did not pray against both for the carnal difficulties each could bring, but rather for their effect on His love of God. Riches could puff up his mind and turn him away from God (
Pr 18:11;
28:11;
I Tim 6:6-10), and poverty could lead him to steal and disgrace God’s name (
Pr 1:10-19;
6:30-31).
These two requests were very wise and noble. Agur did not use prayer to satisfy his lusts, as most men do when they pray (
Jas 4:3). He sought the glory of God, the truth, and the spiritual good of his soul, even if it meant sacrificing some success. As in Solomon’s case, obtaining wisdom to please God was more important than riches (
I Kgs 3:5-13). As with Moses, reproach with God’s people was better than sinful pleasures (
Heb 11:24-26).

2023.06.07 10:31 True_Program_1058 Highschool coach has moved all booster clubs fundraising into a 501c³ and he's the president.
Okay so this is going to be a long one. My son's PUBLIC highschool recently got a new head football coach this year, who is also the schools baseball coach of many years. This year he moved all the schools fundraising efforts into a non-profit where he is the president. I looked into it and he's been doing it for the baseball team for years, but this is where it gets sketchy. I tried looking up the 990 on the IRS website for disclosure of the funds, but it's only a 990n claiming less than 50k a year. I know from speaking with other parents last year about how ridiculous the fees are, that baseball was a minimum $500+ a student with 150 students. I am saying minimum, because the coach is telling us that if we don't want to fundraise for football that we have a mandatory buyout of $750 per student to participate because the operating cost is 20k a year. None of this goes towards actual registration fees that we also need to pay the school. last year we had no problem paying and fundraising because we knew that it went to the school directly. They listed what all the fees where and where it went. At tonight's meeting he did a quick slide pop-up of "fees" and where it is going. I'm a fast reader and was already skeptical about him. But part of the fees are for a p.o. box and team chat. He's requiring us download this team chat and pay $100 per student. He put down operating costs of $995 a year. I looked it up for the premium service for the admin is only $149 a year. Next on the list was summer "camp" which isn't really a camp but just 2 workouts a day, the highschool for 3 days, and they come home everyday.at again $100 per student. So there's almost 30k right there in funds from the parents. Then he had a whole bunch of other required fees. But like I said it was only up for maybe 20 seconds he was trying to get through that slide really fast. At the end of the season the funds stay with the non profit and don't go back into the school with little to no transparency at all. So if you stuck around here is my question, since they moved all the fees to a non-profit, minus the required registration fee paid to the school directly, do I really need to pay those fees now? Can the football team/school, which receives government funding , essentially force me to donate to a non-profit for my son to be able to play?

2023.06.07 10:31 raitoStr [REQUEST][STEAM] FACTORIO 32€
Hello! In this post I'll tell you all about Factorio and why I want it. I am unfortunately not able to get this game for myself but hopefully there's a kind soul in this sub who can buy the game for me. Please excuse any spelling mistakes as English is not my first language.
About Factorio You play as a character known only as the engineer. You crash land on an alien planet and the objective is "simple". Build a rocket and escape the planet. With only a pickaxe in hand you start off by mining ores, chopping trees and crafting transport belts and inserters by hand. Labs are used to research new technology and are fueled by science packs. Soon, you'll be able to make machines that mine ores or craft things for you. At the start of the game, things are mostly powered by coal but in a short time you'll be able to research and craft steam engines and boilers which turn water and coal into electricity. Everything in your base creates pollution and unfortunately, on this alien planet are, aliens. So called "biters" that have hives which absorb pollution to create more biters. more hives and evolve. You'll be able to defend yourself with a wide range of defenses such as turrets. Gun turrets, flamethrower turrets, laser turrets or artillery turrets all of which need ammo that can be crafted manually or automated. Later on, you'll be able to research modular armor customizable with personal laser defense, energy shields and more. You can also customize your world to your liking. You can completely disable enemy spawns or have them surround you right at the start of the game.
Factorio also supports multiplayer. Players can solve problems and build massive factories together, or they can go against each other in a PvP mode.
Why do I want Factorio? Well, for starters, because it is an IMMENSELY satisfying game. With more than a 100,000 positive reviews on Steam, it has endless replayability, tons of QOL features, large overhaul mods like Krastorio 2 or Space Exploration for even more hours to sink into the game. It is a very polished game and you could find a bug in the fabric of reality before finding a bug in Factorio. I can easily see myself pour more than a 100 hours into the game. I also played the free demo for Factorio and after a couple of minutes, it got me hooked. It scratched an itch that I have not felt for YEARS after looking for many games to play. The only thing I was wondering when playing the demo is: how the hell haven't I found about the game earlier when it's so popular? It's an extremely well executed game and I'd have an absolute blast playing it.
End If you read the entire post, thank you! I spent more than I'd like to admit on typing all this up.
Here is the link for my Steam account and
here for Factorio in case you need it. Have a good one!
