Apple Vision Pro, it's blazing, powerful, amazing, and also incredibly expensive!
WWDC 2023 is also referred to as the "XR Spring Festival" by the XR industry. For everyone interested in the AMR field, Vision Pro indeed brings significant impact.

Apple Vision
Starting with the hardware and interaction, Apple Vision Pro resembles a pair of ski goggles, but apart from that, they don't have much in common. Vision Pro features a front-facing 3D glass that can display the user's eyes, allowing for normal eye contact with people around them. Apple calls this feature EyeSight.
One of the fundamental design principles of Vision Pro is to prevent users from being isolated from their surroundings. To illustrate the contrast, let's take the example of VR devices. Unless the external cameras are manually activated, users are typically isolated from the outside environment and people, and others cannot see the user's face and eyes, leading to significant communication barriers.
However, with Vision Pro, even in VR immersion mode, once someone approaches, the device automatically displays the person's presence, and the user's eyes are also shown on the sides. When the user returns to immersion mode, the sides cover the eyes, indicating to others that the user cannot see them.
On the inside, Vision Pro is equipped with Micro OLED dual-eye 8K (single-eye 4K) displays, as well as an M2 chip and a new R1 self-developed chip. It boasts the most detailed and best screens and the most powerful chip in head-worn devices to date. Apple has also designed a large area of heat dissipation holes at the bottom to ensure sustained performance.
Currently, two core challenges in AR devices are optical display and computational performance, in simpler terms, the display quality and processing power. Improving performance requires addressing the "impossible triangle" of computation, battery life, and size. By transitioning from AR glasses to MR headsets, Apple has made some concessions in terms of size, including the choice of an external battery.
Apple confirmed that Vision Pro adopts an external battery solution, which supplies power to the headset via a magnetic power cable. Even with the external battery solution, the officially claimed battery life is only two hours. In theory, users can extend the battery life indefinitely by replacing the external battery, but it requires separate purchases, and the price has not been disclosed.
The external battery solution is not elegant, but it makes Vision Pro look very lightweight and thin. The official weight and front thickness have not been disclosed, but previous leaks have emphasized this point. Additionally, apart from the 8K screens and two high-performance chips that consume power, Vision Pro is equipped with 5 sensors and 12 cameras for eye tracking, environment capturing, and gesture tracking, all of which also consume power.
This leads to the two core interaction methods of Vision Pro-gesture and voice. Apple claims that by relying on multiple cameras and sensors on the outside, various gestures can be accurately recognized, and the handle controller is abandoned. In addition, voice can also cover a series of operations such as text input and switching apps.
To software and content
In addition to showing off the Vision Pro device itself, Apple also announced at WWDC the Vision Pro operating system, visionOS, Apple's sixth operating system.
Like iPadOS and watchOS, visionOS is also developed based on iOS. Benefiting from this, you can enjoy the huge application ecosystem of iOS. All compatible iOS/iPadOS applications can be used on visionOS in a windowed form.
Unlike iPhone and iPad, where we use fingers for touch, Vision Pro mainly relies on eyes, hands and voice for interaction. For example, in Apple's demonstration, when the user is looking at a certain area, pinching the fingers is to select the content, flicking the finger upwards is to scroll the window to browse, and after staring at the input box, input can be made through voice typing.
It is also worth mentioning that visionOS has also transformed FaceTime. Through an external 3D camera and deep learning technology, it can generate a 3D model that is close to a real person for the user, and apply it to the video call, while also reflecting the user's mood. Facial and hand movements.
In the entertainment scene, the core is a larger screen. Users can pinch the corner of the window and pull it to expand the display range of the screen, and even fill the entire field of vision. However, for Apple, there is still a long way to go in terms of content. Except for conventional 2D, 3D movies and Apple Arcade games, it has not released any VR videos. The content cooperation with Disney's 100th anniversary will not be released until after the release. will really show up.
But just like the success of the iPhone is the success of the AppStore, the success of Apple Vision Pro must be inseparable from the establishment and prosperity of the entire software ecosystem. Attracting developers to participate is the key, which is also the most fundamental purpose of Vision Pro's first appearance.
In 2021, Facebook will change its name to Meta and focus on the metaverse. In its planning, XR equipment has become a bridge connecting the metaverse and the real world. Microsoft and Facebook are the current kings of AR and VR respectively. According to a research report released by TrendForce, AVR device shipments will be revised up to 14.19 million units in 2022, with an annual growth rate of 43.9%. The growth momentum comes from the increase in the epidemic Due to the demand for long-distance interaction and the price reduction strategy of Oculus Quest 2, the market share of Microsoft HoloLens 2 and Oculus Quest 2 ranks first in AR and VR respectively, and Oculus’ share in the VR market has been maintained at about 80% to 90%.
A few days before Apple released the Vision Pro, Meta pre-released the Quest 3 headset, priced at $499.
The technology industry is bound to usher in a huge wave again. Players including entertainment and game giants such as Disney, Chinese technology giants, unicorns, and entrepreneurs will compete to increase their stakes. The cost of the upstream supply chain of XR will also be further reduced. The content of XR The service ecosystem will truly prosper, and users will get better and cheaper products.

2023.06.06 04:42 TeaAndCozy Ambers, florals, fruits, lavender, and beeswax: 27 BPAL reviews

Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab is undoubtedly a powerhouse, if not the powerhouse of the indie perfume world. Who else (like me) came to indie perfume at least in part from the hat-tip to BPAL in the acknowledgements of Erin Morgenstern's The Night Circus? I actually still have never ordered from BPAL directly, but I have amassed a fair few samples and decants thanks to Ajevie, Arae, and swaps. And it's always fun to read through the names and notes of each new collection release!
My general thoughts about BPAL are these: they clearly know what they're doing and have an enormous library of notes for them to draw upon. Sometimes new releases feel very much like they just sort of reached into a dark cupboard and combined whatever bottles they happened to grab (particularly the Ménages à Trois), and yet sometimes the unexpected combinations are genius. (Sometimes they are very much not.) BPAL's perfumes tend to work okay for me, but they're not one of my top houses (that list is made up of Nui Cobalt, Poesie, Arcana, and NAVA), although a few BPAL scents have turned out to be holy grails for me (Drow Yoga Instructor, Mouse's Long and Sad Tale). Oddly enough, their florals often tend not to work well on my skin, which is hugely disappointing especially since I deliberately sought out a lot of their ethereal-sounding florals and then a lot of them failed for me. However, their sandalwood incense is astounding, and I love their sweet pea, plum, and pink sandalwood notes.
My preferences: I especially love snuggly scents, incense, golden amber, cardamom, black tea, beeswax, non-gourmand vanillas, and white florals (though sadly I am allergic to lilies and jasmine doesn’t usually work on me). I don't like hay, overly sweet gourmands, excessive musk, leather, dragon’s blood, patchouli, labdanum, or any really dark scents in general.
So here are 27 reviews, organized roughly by category:

Ambers

And With My Spade I Delfe My Landys [Snow-capped golden amber with snowdrop, winter gardenia, hellebore, and iris] - First off, I'm a scholar of Renaissance music, with a real fondness for medieval Books of Hours. Second, I get obsessed with snowdrops in the late winter when the cottagecore-y, hobbit-y, linen-enthusiast circles of Instagram that I haunt fill with photos of snowdrops in February. So how could I pass this one up? I get golden amber and floral as anticipated, and also (just on application, then it recedes) a very resinous, citrusy, herbal scent that I can't quite place - rosemary? Pine? Some combination of the two? It's also a bit powdery (iris has a tendency to pull powdery on me, and as a lover of powdery florals that's just fine with me). And With My Spade is so very reminiscent of those first tentative flowers pushing up through whatever snow still lays on the ground and it's absolutely bonkers wonderful for that transitional season between winter and spring, which is of course what I bought it for.
Bastet [Luxuriant amber, warm Egyptian musk, fierce saffron and soft myrrh, almond, cardamom and golden lotus] - On application, that golden amber reads as powdery honey. As it dries, a sophisticated Egyptian musk and a hint of lotus floral emerge. This perfume is not really gourmand despite the notes. I wish the incense or spices had more presence. As it is, this perfume is nice but it feels a little thin.
Cathedral [Venerable and solemn: the scent of incense smoke wafting through an ancient church. A true ecclesiastical blend of pure resins] - Ohhh, it's pretty. Golden and resinous with only the slightest hint of smokiness. These resins feel closer to tree sap than a dark or spiced incense, so while it's not like any church I've ever experienced, Cathedral is gorgeous and uplifting. I got one scant wear out of my sniffie and would definitely consider getting another sample.
Golden Priapus [A truly carnal, energetic men’s blend: vanilla and amber with juniper, rosewood and white pine] - My experience with this was so puzzling that I went to look up reviews on the BPAL forum, which only puzzled me further! On me, Golden Priapus is an extremely resinous, rosewood-y and tree sap-y golden amber not altogether dissimilar to Hexennacht Baltic Amber [Thick rivulets of golden amber, pinus succinifera, cedarwood, jammy fir absolute, oakmoss absolute, tree moss, verdant musk, cardamom, balsam, lightning-scorched ancient boughs] but with more tree resin and less verdant evergreen. "Carnal" and "energetic" it is not - so off to the forum, where I consistently saw reviews calling this "masculine" and even "a more masculine Snake Oil". I've sniffed Snake Oil (just in the vial, not on my skin) and it had a very red musk + spices vibe, and I don't really see a similarity to Golden Priapus. Nor would I call this "masculine" unless you're the sort who views resinous, sappy golden amber as a more stereotypically men's scent.
The Sun Rising [Three shades of tawny amber radiating with orange blossom, Italian yellow bergamot, saffron, and mandarin] - Golden amber and citrus, with a lot of the saffron. I tested what little was left in the free sniffie in late August, and it was absolutely perfect for the heat of late summer, though I don't think I'll bother buying more because the citrus overpowers the amber a bit (especially the prominent bergamot, not my favorite note).
My Wise Beauty [A simple scent for a quiet memory: white sandalwood and sweet amber] - Resinous golden amber and creamy sandalwood…and vanilla frosting? The "sweet" part of "sweet amber" isn't just flowery adjective but actual description. My Wise Beauty is simple and straightforward but really pretty, wrapping me in a blanket of coziness. The sugary frosting aspect will keep me from seeking out more when this little decant is exhausted, but I will happily wear what's here.

Florals

Alice [Milk and honey with rose, carnation and bergamot] - Soft florals, with the carnation a little more present than the rose. I'm always wary of milk or dairy notes, but the milk and honey here simply serve to mute the rose and carnation, both of which can go strongly green or spicy. I don't dislike this perfume, but as a person who doesn't much love these particular floral notes (I'm much more into white florals, especially tuberose and tiare), it's a little bit boring for me and I ended up destashing this one.
Juliet [Sweet pea with stargazer lily, calla lily, heliotrope, honeysuckle, white musk and a touch of fresh pear] - Disappointingly nondescript. Nonspecific white florals and a hint of pear sweetness. It's dainty and feminine but not memorable. For sweet pea, I'll get my fix with Mouse's Long and Sad Tale.
Lady Amalthea [A luminous white winter musk with lilac, wisteria, white chocolate, white mint, and tuberose] - When it first goes on, the different elements - the florals (I definitely get tuberose, and another floral that must be wisteria, which I'm unfamiliar with), the camphoric spearmint, the white chocolate, and the musk just barely brushing animalic - fight with each other, but it quickly dries down to a much more seamless whole, pretty winter florals over a comforting and Poesie-like white chocolate musky base layer.
Maiden [A gentle vision of purity, goodness and virtue: white tea, carnation and Damask Rose] - It's a lovely combination of rose and carnation, much like Alice, with a slight hint of the green stems but mostly the fragrant flowers (and without the sharp spiciness carnation can sometimes get). On application when it was extremely and uniformly floral, I thought that this perfume needed some vanilla or amber or sandalwood to give it dimension, but as it dried, the white tea emerged to do exactly that - it's not a bitter, astringent white tea, but more the feeling of steam rising from a pale tea in a china teacup. Still, I'm ambivalent at best about rose and carnation, so I destashed it.
Mouse's Long and Sad Tale [Vanilla, two ambers, sweet pea and white sandalwood] - This one is so pretty, delicately sweet and floral, and a staple of my spring perfumes! (Meanwhile, Husband says it smells like talc powder, acknowledging that I like exactly that kind of thing.) I don't get amber or sandalwood individually, but they lend the vanilla a mellowness and warmth. Several hours later, it lingers as a warm sandalwood-amber-vanilla. I love this one so much that I sought out a decant of Mouse's Long and Sad Pumpkin, which I'm saving to try this fall.
Pele [Muguet and Hawaiian white ginger enveloped by warm, damp tropical blooms] - So pretty! This is entirely a white floral perfume, tiare backed by tuberose (I think? A second white floral, definitely). If there's any ginger in there, I don't notice it. I adore tiare so I am entirely happy, though I can also acknowledge that this perfume lacks depth or complexity. I love this and other tropical white florals for summer.
Zorya Polunochnaya [Pale amber and ambergris, gossamer vanilla, moonflower, and white tobacco petals] - A crowd favorite, and I wanted to see what everyone was talking about! This has a sweet + salty, white amber + pink cotton candy effect. The slight tinge of butter and salt to this white amber (no doubt amplified by the ambergris) reminds me of the Alkemia white ambers, Luminae especially. I actually don't really get any florals from this one, which is a pity because I love the moonflower in Nui Cobalt Crown of Hekate [Moonflower and myrrh over shining white amber on a pillow of sheer vanilla] though I find the myrrh in that one quite overpowering. I had been hoping this would be a nice alternative. As Zorya P starts to dry, the tobacco starts to emerge and replaces the initial pink cotton candy effect. It's gentle as tobacco goes, but still more than I would prefer. All in all, it's been really fun to try this one since everyone's been talking about it - and it is indeed just as "gossamer" as the notes description says, though it has a really surprising longevity! But it's not ultimately going to find a place in my collection, since I have other, equally ethereal vanillas that I prefer, and I'm really not into tobacco.

Lavender

TKO [No official notes - people agree that it's lavender and marshmallow] - Yep, lavender and marshmallow. A particularly herbal, astringent lavender, which cuts beautifully through the sweet powderiness of the marshmallow. I'm also getting a sort of dusty background incense, which makes this scent remind me of Stereoplasm Lavender Scarab [Golden amber, English lavender, blackberry, incense], but with marshmallow instead of golden amber
A Place of Seeing [Pink rosebuds and lavender with amber-gilded sandalwood, vanilla bean, bergamot, and marshmallow] - It goes on with the same sleepy lavender as in TKO, made more detailed and complex with the addition of the gentle pink rose petals and the amber-sandalwood-vanilla base. It wafts around me a haze of femininity. As it dries, the marshmallow emerges too, and it becomes obvious that this is literally TKO with the addition of rose and those warm base notes. Very pretty!
The Air and the Ether [Gentle, almost imperceptible, permeating all things: pale amber vibrating with ambergris and a thread of lavender] - Lavender, one that sits midway between herbal and floral, and skin musk. It's an incredibly skin-hugging scent, but has excellent longevity.
On Wednesday, I Will Promise You a Phantom [A gust of luminous lavender, the spectral skin musk of a gently curving ghostly hand, a melodic twang of wisteria and ylang ylang, and a murmur of myrrh-touched vanilla husk] - Another "sleepy lavender" scent - I have several of these in my perfume collection and I love them all. This is a really ghostly, ethereal scent, wafting elusively around me. On Wednesday is primarily a lavender + vanilla scent, but with a bit of complexity. The lavender is the herbal sort, but it's so soft that it's not at all astringent, and the faintest hint of the other florals makes the lavender sometimes smell like the floral sort. Adding just a touch of myrrh was a really clever choice on their part - there's so little that it doesn't make it smell earthy or smoky, but it grounds it and gives it complexity and richness. It's really quite a lovely, ghostly scent.

Fruits

Drow Yoga Instructor [Wild plum, indigo lavender, and a tranquil tendril of sandalwood incense] - A dusty and purple scent with an absolutely gorgeous gentle incense note (I love sandalwood incense!) backed up by lavender flowers (sort of midway between floral and herbal), and a plum note that is intense fruity candy for about 2 seconds when applied, and then merely makes this scent truly purple. When I say "dusty", I actually mean it - after about half an hour, the sandalwood incense really does start to include an actual dust note. This is a stunning scent for yoga practice, or any day you want a gentle purple incense scent. It is the yoga perfume for me, gorgeous and meditative and containing possibly my favorite-ever incense note (sorry, NCD cathedral incense, I promise I love you too!). I don't wear this one as often as I'd like to because I also have other yoga perfumes and I like to rotate through them, but honestly this is my holy grail yoga scent. Even though it has low longevity on me; it'll last through a yoga class and then some, and that's really all I need from it. I'm seriously considering buying a full bottle, which (since I'm a person who full-sizes hardly anything) tells you something about how essential it is for my collection.
Painted Scars [Wild plum and white sandalwood with lavender bud, white musk, and blackberry wine] - I snapped up a half-ml decant of this as soon as I saw the notes, because it reminded me so much of both their Drow Yoga Instructor and also Stereoplasm Lavender Scarab [Golden amber, English lavender, blackberry, incense], both scents I really like. This is a much brighter, fruitier scent than Drow Yoga Instructor, the plum and blackberry combination going on as brash fruity candy (I don't love this stage). But it does dry down to a very calming scent, those dark fruits joined by a bit of grounding lavender and sandalwood. Unlike the two others I thought this would be similar to, Painted Scars noticeably lacks incense, but it definitely lives in their same family. I quite enjoy it (once it has dried down) but won't need to seek out more. I do wonder if layering this with Drow Yoga Instructor might improve the latter's longevity, which would be thrilling if it works.
Titania [A nocturnal bounty of fae dew-kissed petals and pale fruits: white grape, white peach, iced pear, musk rose, sweet pea, moonflower and snapdragon] - It goes on with a blast of fruits too sweet and fruit snack-like, mostly that white grape, but as it sits the florals suddenly emerge with a great whack of petals, and at this point I'm very puzzled because the particular combination of fruit and indistinct white florals reminds me a great deal of mint toothpaste. Another one that's a nice idea but doesn't really work for me on execution.

Greenery

Elf [Pale golden musk, honeycomb, amber, parma violet, hawthorne bark, aspen leaf, forest lily, life everlasting, white moss, and a hint of wild berry] - Wet on my skin, it's pine needles seen through a soft, gauzy veil - it's a strange but lovely effect, the pine needles muted by fruit and amber. Dry, the pine needles disappear entirely, and the perfume is an indistinct but really pretty mix of greenery, floral, berry-like fruit, and glowing golden amber. The overall effect is pretty muted, and by this I don't mean that it lacks throw, just that all of the elements are soft and gentle. It does feel undeniably elfin. I thought it would be a spring perfume but then never wore it the next spring, and when I tried it in early summer, it was much too tree-ish for me - but Husband loved it and happily took ownership.

Beeswax

The Lights of Men's Lives [The wax and smoke of millions upon millions of candles illuminating the walls of Death’s shadowy cave: some tall, straight, and strong, blazing with the fire of life, others dim and guttering] - I love beeswax notes and was excited to try a perfume that I'd read is the perfect epitome of a lit beeswax candle. It's a honeyed beeswax with an unmistakable candle-ness to it even though I don't smell any smoke. It's an extremely atmospheric scent and one that is very situational for me, not for daily wear. I especially love it for Good Friday.
The Little Owl [Tonka bean and vetiver with brown sandalwood, oak bark, almond, and beeswax] - Not going to lie; I was completely suckered in by the cuteness of the name and concept. This scent feels extremely Nui Cobalt-ish: woodsy but also cuddly, featuring honey + almond (like Silver Fox, Chionophilia, and so on) and also some earthier notes, and the beeswax is strong. This is absolutely going to be a fall perfume for me.

Miscellaneous

Baobhan Sith [Grapefruit, white tea, apple blossom and ginger] - I'm not really one for ginger-heavy scents, and somehow my skin always seems to amp ginger notes even if, as in this one, they're last on the list. (Isn't that always the way?) This one doesn't go on with too much ginger, but even just fifteen minutes later it becomes primarily ginger on me, backed with the astringency of acidic grapefruit citrus and white tea leaves. I really love apple blossom but I don't get much if any here; it's overwhelmed by the more assertive notes. Another half hour later, Baobhan Sith is actually nearly gone (or perhaps I just grow anosmic to it?). Meanwhile, at that stage, Husband tells me he can still smell it (so yeah, I've probably just gone anosmic), and that it reminds him of the lime oil in the furniture wax he uses - and he says he quite likes this perfume on me. Overall, it's a lovely idea, and I still think a white tea + apple blossom scent would be just fabulous but this is not it for me.
Bliss in the Pumpkin Patch [There's all manner of shenanigans in this year's pumpkin patch! Pumpkin'ized hybrids of GC BPAL scents abound! BLISS: A shot of pure, self-indulgent euphoria! A scent that is very, very wicked in its own way: the serotonin-slathered scent of pure milk chocolate.] - Oddly enough, I don't actually get milk chocolate; I get cinnamon and espresso over a creamy, foody pumpkin - all told, a bit too gourmand for me, but it was tremendous fun to try. (Less fun: the cocoa solids had separated from the oil, which also left unappealing chocolatey smears on my wrists that I later had to go wash off.)
Lust [Uncontrollable passion and insatiable sexual desire: red musk, patchouli, ylang ylang and myrrh] - This combination of red musk, patch, and myrrh smells to me a lot like dragon's blood. Husband says he likes this one but wouldn't wear it himself; meanwhile it's very very not for me and I didn't bother skin-testing it, red musk and patch being two of my death notes.
Vasilissa [Creamy skin musk and blushing pink musk with soft sandalwood, white amber, dutiful myrrh, and star jasmine] - My immediate response: "Ooh, pretty!" And even Husband graced it with a "yeah, that's nice." A dainty, feminine, slightly floral but mostly pink sandalwood scent with just enough resin and earthy myrrh underneath to ground it.

Personally...

I absolutely positively cannot do without Drow Yoga Instructor and Mouse's Sad and Long Tale. Other BPAL favorites include A Place of Seeing and Vasilissa, and probably also The Little Owl (we'll see how much I reach for it in autumn). I'm sad that most of the floral ones I tried don't really work for me. I can also commend BPAL for their pretty and often very clever approach to gauzy, lavender-forward scents.
Thank you to everyone who sold or gifted me these samples and decants!

What could have caused this, how to prevent in the future? (More inside)
Title. This appears to be new. I take my bike apart and clean it regularly. Noticed this when doing a post-spring tuneup after I took the rear wheel off. This is the drivetrain side on my rear triangle next to the hanger. It looks like my chain rubbed into the carbon and ate it away. I have checked and my limit screw is adjusted properly, nothing is rubbing as I cycle through the gears when it's on a work stand. The bike has never thrown a chain in the 2 years i've owned it. Chain is the correct length, I've never ridden with the axle loose, etc. I'm working with Santa Cruz to warranty (not even sure if it's bad enough to warrant a replacement, but it's better to be safe than sorry I suppose) the rear triangle, however; I want to ENSURE this does NOT happen again on the new one. Any advice? I'm assuming this would only happen while I'm pedaling, and I have never noticed a noise coming from the rear while climbing. Please help!

2023.06.06 03:57 goop_lizard Disimmurement 1/2

It's good to see you again, I'm sure you've been pretty busy lately. Don't bother ordering anything to eat, this shouldn't take that long. A drink might be in order though. Something strong. Nothing for me, thanks, I've work to do soon.
Now, while a social call would be pleasant I'm afraid I've reached out to you for some important business. I have seen the risen body of the king.
Sit down! Quiet. No need to make a scene, now. I can answer your questions once I've said my piece. We can leave the why for later, it's a bit complicated. Was a bit complicated. Simpler now, but... hard to explain. The how is an easier place to start.
You might think there's no way to slip by unnoticed somewhere as restricted as the exclusion zone - that they'd have sensor drones and satellites flag you the moment you stepped in and you'd be removed within minutes. In most places you'd be right, but the valley of the tomb is not most places. I'm sure you remember the beginning of the raid, before any of us knew what we were getting into. The whole place was covered in a haze so thick we had to tie ropes to eachother just to stay together, and what little sunlight made it through came down wrong. A thin, fetid color that should have been a beautiful gold but felt more like the yellow of rancid grease. The only other light that didn't die five feet from its source was from the constant flashes of actinic lightning that just so happened to drown out any radio signals.
I suppose they could set up the borders farther away, but honestly? I don't think they want to. Nobody sane would ever think of getting in, and they know they're not stopping anything that comes out. Better to let themselves think nothing comes in or out, that the exclusion zone is a formality to keep out the occasional crazy from wandering in. I think they're scared that if they keep too close an eye on things they'll see something that breaks that assumption. Something they don't want to think about.
I'm rambling a bit. The important part is that the only thing keeping me out was the patrols. They weren't much trouble though. Even outside the fog that place wears on you. Keeps you from sleeping right. Makes you feel like someone's watching. A few months of that, and I made sure to go in right before they got rotated out, and it's not hard to write off that figure in the distance as a trick of the mind.
Once I made it inside I knew things had gotten worse. The first few dozen yards were the same but past that I soon reached a point where no sunlight reached the ground at all. I found my way first by the the constant flashes of lightning, and, when even they had been eaten by the choking fog, and my flashlight served only to illuminate a yard or two ahead of my feet, by the pull of that damned place. I suppose I could feel it to begin with, that it was why I went back to begin with, but it was always in the background... Still calling me but ignorable, at least for a time... You can feel it too, right? Just over that hill to the North......
On second thought maybe I will have a drink. One moment.
Much better. Now, back to the story. It took me about an hour to reach our old base camp. I thought for sure it would have been destroyed but... Hmm? Well, yes, I did come from the opposite direction, but you're thinking too literally. A place like that is very abstract, much more about the journey you see, and the journey I set out on started with darkness, then the base camp, then the tomb, and then... I'll leave the end for the end, but the point is that I couldn't have passed them in any other order. It's like a story - the order is fixed once the book is printed.
From that explanation you might think the camp twisted into some metaphorical mockery of itself, or perhaps ruined to symbolize mankind's weakness, or some other similar thing, but what I came across impacted me far more deeply. It was intact. No, not intact, preserved. I've seen the old base camps from when we were cleaning out bandits, old tents abandoned for just a couple years to the sand when it was deemed not worth recovering them until we came along for some late cleanup, and it's amazing how fast the elements set to work on something not meant to stay in one place for more than a few days. It had been there for nearly a decade, with all the equipment we'd brought left in place, and yet not a speck of dust had found it.
I'm sure you recall how we were found afterwards, lying in the arid scrublands just outside the storm with nothing but our jumpsuits. I found our arms and armor there as well, neatly folded and placed in footlockers. Whatever made us flee, we didn't run in a panic - we calmly put everything in its place and simply walked away. We all said that we ran, though, that we had been chased. Isn't that curious to you? Probing my memory before the incident I still recalled panic, being paralyzed before an overwhelming presence, and yet I had nothing afterwards. Not a single clear image from after we breached the tomb. I said we ran because all I could remember was the fear, and that was the explanation that made the most sense of things.
At first I thought there wasn't much for me there besides the realization. The fuel cells had all gone dead, of course, and our records were all stored on the camp's computers. When I attempted to retrieve the memory cards, however, I found them gone - not just the cards themselves but the caddies that would normally extend to receive them. Propping open the spring-loaded slot and turning my flashlight to it, I could see that the entire computer was not without power, it had been entirely hollowed out. I will admit to having fallen into a bit of a panic at that, blindly tearing apart anything else electronic - no doubt the old base camp will prove far less preserved for whoever managed to stumble upon it next - but in all of them I found the same result. Even the displays had been stripped of their circuitry, leaving only black panels with not even a scrap of wire dangling from them to indicate they had ever been used as part of a larger device. Thankfully we'd taken purely mechanical weapons on that first expedition, and I took the opportunity to arm myself before proceeding, with great trepidation, to the tomb itself.
It was not similarly untouched. Most of the outer walls were intact, at least from what little I'd seen - those walls of some unknowable black material, broken up by countless gold adornments and engraved with what looked like stories of some great god-king. Carvings that would have found themselves perfectly at home in the stone burial halls of ancient Merkat or Hattesh, although I concede to not having looked too closely. I was far more focused on that great door where we had made our original entrance.
It had taken us hours to make that hole after the door had refused to open, even with the explosives at our disposal, and while the gap itself was thankfully still there, the edges had started to heal. That word, heal, is very important - nobody was rebuilding it. I saw no evidence of tools nor worldly methods of repair. Instead the edges had grown over with a bulging, fibrous mass that I took to be scar tissue. I attempted to take a sample, to see if any of the scientists could tell me its makeup, but it was just as cold and unyielding as the false-stone which surrounded it. I hurried inside after that, secure at least in the knowledge that if it was still growing the stiffness of it would make the process so slow as to not impede my escape.
Once inside the pull was much stronger, to the point I could barely resist it. Whatever those black walls had been made of was proving itself effective as insulation. I soon found myself abandoning any further investigation, only barely restraining myself from sprinting as I made my way into the central burial chamber...

Everything goes to a pawn shop next week.
Make me an offer!
You can get everything pictured and listed here for $500 (obo). $1200+ retail, $800+ individually.
I am definitely undervaluing everything because I just need it gone. It’s been sitting collecting dust for 5+ years and I no longer have any interest in airsoft. I’m moving out of my parent’s house because of college and they want it gone too.
Pic w/ Date Verification: https://imgur.com/ErJYGeo
Note: No notes in paypal transaction
Note: Have video of all guns shooting on request
$500 for Everything, open to offers
All prices are negotiable. Bundles are preferred and will be given discounts

Umarex/Elite Force ARX-160 Elite: $180
Good condition, scuffing on barrel and flash hider. Missing rear iron sight, will update if I find it. Has a tight bore barrel, I believe 6.03mm.
Great gun, electric blowback, locking bolt. Chrono’d at 380fps w/ .20g. Single and Full auto. Folding stock w/ quick swap spring system and quick release barrel. Comes with Bravo 1x30 RDS. Retailed $293. Will come with 2 high cap mags unless purchased as a bundle with M4.
Mini Tamiya connector.

Marushin 2 Shot Green Gas Derringer: $40
Like new condition, used in one game
Fun little gun for messing around with. Never was chrono’d, but the manufacturer lists 200fps w/ .20g. Great for game modes where hiding weapons is advantageous, such as hostage.

KWC Full Metal CO2 Desert Eagle: $120
Very Good condition, minor scuffing on fire select switch and edges
Kicks hard. Has full auto and single fire mode. Comes with 1 mag. Evike lists FPS around 370-420 w/ .20g.

WE G17 Green Gas: $80
Good cosmetic condition, iffy mechanical.
Comes with 1 regular mag and 1 Timberwolf extended mag. Currently having an issue where the mag dumps all the gas after 3-4 shots. I’m guessing it’s a lubrication issue but I don’t have the time to diagnose it.

Umarex IWI Uzi CO2 Blowback: $120
Good condition. Cosmetic scratches around mag release, palm safety, and charging handle. Mags have scratches on them. Does not have orange tip
Licensed IWI Uzi. Strong kick. Full auto and single fire. One mag leaks very very mildly. One mag occasionally won’t catch the bolt when empty. No chrono but Evike listed around 380-400fps w/ .20g 2 mags have trouble releasing the CO2 cartridge from the bottom with an allen wrench. Unsure of cause, believed the plastic holding the metal cracked. See pictures

Tokyo Marui P90TR: $75
Poor cosmetic condition, decent mechanical condition. Been spray painted jungle camo. Charging handle spring is missing and the charging handle slides freely.
Great CQB hybrid bullpup design. Comes with 1 low/mid cap imitation bullet mag (hold 50-75rds), and 1 high cap mag (300 rds). Also comes with metal amplifier tip and plastic spray painted flash hider tip. Includes Strike 1x20x30 RDS.
Chrono’d at 315 w/ .20g

Unknown Brand M4: $50
Decent cosmetic condition, unknown mechanical.Don’t know much about this one. Traded for it in a losing trade. Has an elite force lower, but unknown internals. One of the screws holding the motor in is missing. Comes with 2 high cap mags
Chrono’d at 335 w/ .20g.

UK Arms Spring Sniper: $25
Good mechanical condition, acceptable cosmetic condition.
Never got this one chrono’d and I can't find any info on it. Realistically it probably shoots around 350fps, but I’ve honestly got no clue. Comes with a Frontier 2.5x32 scope that I think might actually be a pistol scope.

All guns work to the best of my knowledge, unless otherwise stated but have been sitting for 5+ years. The gas/CO2 guns may have minor issues due to dried seals.
No original boxes for any guns.
Buyer pays shipping unless negotiated, if you buy a gun or bundle I’ll pay for shipping insurance.
First person to buy an AEG gets a free mini deans/T Plug to mini Tamiya adaptor if they want it.
AEGs will not come with batteries because of the hassle/risk of shipping LiPO
Tape on M4 mags is because I wanted to make a double stack/flip mag. It worked pretty well for a few months before it fell apart. Will remove and clean at buyer’s request

2023.06.06 03:27 ewenwhatarmy Stressed Japanese Maple shedding bark - what does it mean?

Not sure what's going on - is this a sign of truck growth or has the death rattle begun?
My poor stressed maple (first ripped apart by septic company just over a year ago, then had its roots cut by the same company clearing for grass, and finally just eeked by a very dry summer) seemed to be doing well with the bolt as she popped a lot of new leaves this spring.
I went out this weekend to put down some proper mulch (nutripeat) and saw bark just flaking off. Thought it was from rubbing, but it seemed to have lost some bark way up on branches as well.
Some predicted she'd have just a couple years - is this the sign of her death? Is this likely another trauma on top of everything else? Or is this normal behavior, maybe encouraging? I feel the worst is happening 😔

Album
Selling my 512. 1 of only 20 made. This is the last mx board I own and is freshly rebuilt. The build currently in it is OP Black topped NOS Cherry Blacks on an aluminum plate and an str.merro60 pcb (for the side lit rgb) and TX stabilizers. The switches are lubed with GHv4 and have sprit 63.5 gram springs. I will also be including the stock NOS Cherry top housings for these, as well as a few extra switches. There are 3 extra plates included that I had custom cut. 2 brass and one UHMWPE. One of the brass plates is from the stock file and another has been modified. The UHMWPE plate was also modified to have the middle mounting tabs removed and tends to bend when fully built, so I'd recommend against using it unless you are building with a thick PCB. Lastly, the aluminum plate built out in the board is an identical shape to the UHMWPE one with the middle tabs removed. I also have a red and a blue Hineybush H60 I can include for another $40 each (shown in the timestamp). The brass weight had some water damage from the previous owner that I restored, and it has since naturally patinaed to the state it is in now as shown in the album. The board will also ship in a merisi.works medium case.
Asking $1k shipped.
Conus only please. Thanks for looking.

2023.06.06 02:46 mastergummy11 Rusted ejector spring LCPII

LCP2. Ejector and plunger removed, spring wouldn’t come out. It was rusted shut. Lots of soaking later I was finally able to remove it. Ordering a new spring and plunger.
I knew the gun wasn’t feeding a couple years ago because the ejectospring were rusted shut, preventing a round to enter the chamber. Left it sitting in the safe and didn’t have a reason to take it out as I switched to a different carry gun. Finally got bored enough and wanted a new project. We’ll see how well I can fix it up. Kinda have the luxury of using this as practice as it’s not valuable to me. Gotta get some new supplies and will post when back together. Any advice let me know!

2023.06.06 01:55 umafia Apartment complex said moldy ac vent replacement timeline is "at the mercy of the vendor" what are my options? (TX)

They seem very uninterested in the problem, it's triggering my asthma and giving me hives when I run the ac so now I don't run the ac and it's 85F in the apartment most of the day. It's been a full week since I reported it and I have a suspicion I need to break the lease early but don't know the steps to avoid the 3.5k fee for early termination.

2023.06.06 01:27 lobrien921 Slumlord in “Luxury” Apartment- Help!

My husband and I have been living at Station Row in downtown Providence for the past three years, and we are currently facing significant issues with the management. We are seeking advice regarding our situation. Our lease is set to end on July 16th, and according to the terms, we are required to provide a 60 day notice if we intend to renew or not. In early May, we began contacting the management to inquire about the potential rent increase, as we wanted to make an informed decision regarding renewal. However, despite multiple attempts, we have not received a response.
Initially, on May 9th, we were informed that the new rent options would be added to our online portal. However, several days and weeks went by with no updates. We sent numerous emails, all of which went unanswered. We also attempted to call various extensions, only to be directed to voicemail boxes that were full. Due to our demanding work schedules, we have been unable to catch the management in person, as their office hours are also very limited.
My husband managed to speak with someone who was “filling in” over the weekend. He provided us with the rent rates and assured us that the management would call us on Sunday (yesterday). Shockingly, the new rent he disclosed represents a staggering TWENTY TWO percent increase from our current rent. Considering our dedication as public service workers and loyal tenants for the past three years, we were absolutely astounded by this news. To our (also not surprising) disappointment, we never received the promised call.
After conducting some research, it appears that there are no specific laws in Rhode Island that protect tenants from such drastic rent hikes. Although we understand that legally this may be a losing battle, we would like to know if there are any other tenant rights we could potentially utilize in addressing the excessive delay in providing notice and the overall lack of responsiveness from the management. Are there any resources available through the attorney general's office that could be of assistance to us? It is important to note that we have diligently documented all our communication with the management via email.
Furthermore, I strongly advise against signing a lease at this property. I have previously lived in apartments managed by slumlords in Boston, but my experience at Station Row has been far worse. Oh and the building is currently infested with roaches.

2023.06.06 00:47 emilianaaaaaa Review of the HUB Residence (Studio)

Location: 6/10
It's basically as close as you can get to campus, which is nice. Safeway, HMart and a few other grocery stores are only a few blocks walk or a bus ride away. Close to the LRT too, which has its upsides, and (spoiler alert) its downsides. However, the HUB itself is a complete shitshow when it comes to food and the stores there either have a really limited selection, are super overpriced, or both.
Kitchen: 3/10
The appliances and cabinetry are all definitely nice and pretty high quality, however there are some MAJOR flaws to the layout. Firstly, there isn't enough counter space to have a microwave unless you don't use a drying rack or otherwise leave the drying rack in the sink which means you have no room to use it. Second, to even open the fridge you need to stand in the bathroom, which isn't a dealbreaker, but still pretty odd and resulted in my bathroom mat collecting a lot of dirt over time. Thirdly, there also just isn't enough counter space for anything at all, beyond even a microwave. You're forced to use the stovetop to have room for your cuttingboard/etc. or otherwise take it into the bedroom and use the tiny table.
The oven is small and has a heating coil on both the top and the bottom. I have had two Pyrex dishes explode on me in the oven, and my assumption is this is due to the fact that it's basically not possible to get far enough away from the heating coil to not explode. Also, basically every time I use the oven it sets off my smoke detector at least 30 times. These have compounded in me never using an oven, on top of not having a microwave. So I just use my stovetop, which still sets off the smoke detector every couple uses for no discernable reason.
TL;DR these units were not really designed with any kind of even remotely serious cooking in mind.
Bed/Bedroom: 4/10
Calling it a bed is pretty generous. It's basically a glorified gymnastics mat sitting on top of a metal cot. Twin/single bed sheets fit extremely loose, FYI. In terms of firmness I would say the mattress was on the firm side, but closer to the middle. Bed is squeaky, and there's also no real headboard so I had to line my bed up with a wall or else my pillow would slide off the bed 9,082,335 times every night.
There is only one light in the bedroom, and I unfortunately (spoiler alert) wasn't ever able to open my curtains. I will also say that most of the furniture in general is pretty low quality, aside from the armchair. I would genuinely consider the University's portrayal (https://www.ualberta.ca/residence/media-library/images/hub-floorplan-studio.jpg) one of the greatest catfishes of all time, and am honestly convinced that this has to be in violation of some kind of false advertising law.
Bathroom: 1/10
There isn't a fan in the bathroom and it is genuinely the stupidest idea I have ever seen executed. When I take a shower my entire kitchen gets covered in a light coating of condensation. It causes a lot of the metal in the bathroom (shower curtain, appliance covers) to rust very quickly. Not to mention, there are no drawers in the bathroom, only a cupboard under the sink. But why would you want to even put anything in the bathroom with how humid it gets there after a shower?
Cleanliness: 2/10
Dust collected in my unit at an insanely fast rate. I think it was because the heaters haven't been cleaned in a long time. I admittedly have OCD and am a bit of a neat freak but I basically had to sweep every day or every-other day. And I would sweep up a sizeable amount of dust, too. Enough to fill maybe 1/4 of a dustpan.
It was dirty enough that I threw out a lot of stuff (doormat, bath mat, etc.) when moving out because there was no way I could get it clean again.
Climate Control: 1/10
Virtually nonexistent. Through the winter my unit got below 15 C very regularly and now that Spring has hit I have been burning up to the point that I bought a box fan. I'm also on the bottom floor and can't open my window often for (spoiler alert) reasons, so that was also fun. I should also mention that apparently studio units don't even get ceiling fans?
Mailbox: 2/10
UPS, FedEx, and Amazon will deliver packages to your stairwell door and it will be stolen in less than 15 minutes. Canada Post can deliver to the boxes however I have had maybe 1 of every 4 Canada Post packages ordered get lost for no discernable reason. I had to pay $30/mo for a UPS PO Box and use the Amazon Locker to survive.
Food deliveries like DoorDash, etc. are very hit or miss because the delivery drivers do not like to deliver onto campus because they don't understand the layout. Be prepared to have to deal with really angry and confused drivers calling or texting you. Or your food delivered to the wrong unit. And lots of late deliveries.
Laundry: 4/10
Not enough machines for the sheer number of people living in the HUB. Be prepared to go at really inconvenient times if you want to do your laundry without having to wait an excessive amount of time. It's also pretty exhausting to have to carry laundry up three flights of stairs and all the way to the laundry room, as someone who lived pretty far from it.
The laundry room in general is pretty dirty. People will open your dryer or washer on accident and not restart the machine, pretty regularly. Lots of people leave their stuff in the machines for hours. It's also (spoiler alert) not 100% safe.
Privacy: 6/10\*
Pretty decent, though I have heard people living in the HUB say otherwise very adamantly. I didn't have a neighbor above or next to me so probably take this with a grain of salt. My biggest complaint is that I hear tons of people in my stairwell very late at night who are just walking through it and talking very loudly. There seems to be virtually no sound insulation whatsoever on the side of the room that has the stairwell.
Pests: 8/10\*
Outside of a few dozen fruit flies over my 6 months of living in the HUB, I didn't have to deal with any. Expect that this may not be the case for you, but pray that it is. My understanding is if you live under or even near a restaurant you are going to have mice and ants pretty badly. However, I will also note that I absolutely have seen cockroaches, ants, etc. just chilling out on the mall-level.
Safety: 1/10
OK so yeah, it's awful. I can't open my window because homeless people will come up to the window and ask me for food or money. Someone let a homeless man into the laundry room while I was alone in there and he came after me and I had to physically leave the room while leaving my stuff there for my own safety. I was approached by a human trafficker who tried stalking me for a week or two afterwards. 2-3 times I have heard people screaming (presumably on drugs or having some kind of episode) run into my stairwell to pull the fire alarm. There have been times I've been unable to enter or leave my apartment because people are literally just tripping out in the middle of the stairwell or in front of the door, etc. I've been followed home late at night from the bus stop/LRT station by people who were literally talking about mugging me.
Price: 1/10
Completely unjustified and unaffordable. The unit and the experience of living here is generously worth about 2/3 of the current price, if that. They have manipulated studios into being a monthly lease in order to squeeze every single penny out of you for rent. Not to mention I had to pay $30/mo for a mailbox from UPS to be able to get packages, so it's even more expensive.
Overall Rating: 3/10
\ = I am acknowledging that these rankings are very far outside of the norm of things I have heard about the HUB from other current and former residents.*

2023.06.06 00:46 aCrabRangoon Replacing our system in ATX - variable or no?

Hello, we're in Central TX where it's hot and humid & looking to update our HVAC mechanical equipment. A family friend owns an AC company and offers us friends/family pricing, so we are likely getting a Trane system from him. I thought I'd want a variable system, but he is a big proponent of single stage like we have now since they're easier on availability of replacement parts & technicians than variable options. I also realize it may be twice the price to go variable over 1 stage, and I am not looking for the energy savings to "make the money back" from splurging on the luxury option at a higher price. I am just looking for comfort, we hope to be in this home for 10+ years and both primarily work from home. I'd hate to skip variable if it's within our budget & a good fit for us.
The house, FWIW:60's single-story home that's about to get the roof deck spray foamed for improved temperature performance, windows and roof are all newly replaced and exterior doors are next on the list so ACH value will improve. Wall insulation will not be improved / updated for some time - so it's decades old pink stuff for now. We have 3 beds / 2 bath & 2 living spaces that may become one in the near future.
Does variable sound like it would be a good fit for our structure or no? The humidity control in both warm and cold times of year & lower dB indoor operation (air noise, not mechanical) makes me hope so.

2023.06.06 00:28 fontimus Rescued a kitten from a truck engine today - what next?

To make a long story short, I pulled a 2 month old smoky/grey diluted calico from a truck at work today. She's healthy albeit terrified from her ordeal and presumably losing her mother.
I brought her home to recuperate, she's currently hiding in my bedroom box spring. I've left out water, wet food and one of the litter boxes (I have 3 house cats).
I'm unsure what to do from here. I don't trust South Florida Humane Societies and related organizations because of past personal negative experiences and stories.
I've asked trusted friends around.
I am keen on ensuring this beautiful little kitten gets a good and loving home with people that are sensitive to animals.
What should I do in the meantime? I sadly can't adopt her for fear of putting pressure on the 3 other cats in out small apartment.

2023.06.05 23:55 Silver_Result1853 My (32M) Girlfriend (27F) beviour is making me uncomfortable and i cant really trust her

My current girlfriend and i have been together for almost 3 years now, we both moved in together 2 years ago. We met at work and instantly clicked, she was really straight forward and looked me up on IG after only talking to me a few times at work and started to message me when she got off work, shes a real stunner and is well known around where i live to be extremely good looking.
I was betrayed in my previous relationship by my ex girlfriend who started flirting with a coworker on snapchat who she eventually ended up hooked up with after a party. This completely destroyed me because we spent many years together and even had a small child at that time.
now im starting to get bad vibes from my current girlfriend aswell, shes extremely extroverted and has mainly male friends, from time to time guys i have no idea she knows or talks to seems to know her in and out when or if we stumble upon them when we're out. Those are guys that she knows from work but never mentions a word to me about. it might be worth noting that we share the same workplace but we work in different areas, so we know the same people.
Early in our relationship i found out that she had been lying about her male friends that she had on snapchat. these were guys she had conversations with on a daily basis, she always insisted on them just being "friends". she always knew how i felt about her having so many friends on snapchat because of how my previous relationship ended.
One evening she gave me her phone, asking me go to through every chat to prove that those guys were nothing more than just friends but that werent exactly what i found out, several of those guys she still had on snapchat and spoke to regularly were guys she had sexual relationships with. this undermined my trust with her.
Fast forward to the last summer, my girlfriend gets a new partner at work, lets call him mark. she never really speaks about him or mentions him to me, so i figured out she doesnt really know him, that he is just some random guy at work. the company she works have alot of employees, people comes and goes on a weekly basis so getting to know everyone is not something that always happens so i figured she didnt know the guy.
Fast forward to this winter, she starts snapping with the guy. Alot, like every day. after a few weeks i ask her, like who is this mark anyway?i had no clue who the guy was and told her its making me uncomfortable. so she started removing notifications instead when she got messages in snapchat from him or turned the screen downwards, and only opened messages on snapchat if i werent at home or was in the same room.
She told me she could remove him from snapchat if i wanted, she told me she already warned him that this might happen if they start to chat, that i can get jealous.
This offended me for 3 good reasons:
1.she choose to add him on snapchat knowing it might
damage my feelings.
  1. she throws me under the buss for a stranger, calling me a jealous boyfriend.(i expect my better half to be supportive and be on my side and not on some random guy from works side)
  2. she would never ever allow me to add a female colleague to snapchat, i even asked her about it and she told me she'd rip my wiener in half. (this is something she said herself)
After all of this, she continues to snap with him every day, and not using snapchat at all at home,
she only use it at work or when she has days off and is home alone when im not there so i can
see who shes talking to. i spoke to her several times about how i feel and how its making me uncomfortable, she told me theyre not chatting on snap so frequently anymore because of how i feel, but i do not trust her completely and asked her if they use they a different chat instead since they dont snap eachother but she declined this saying she dont chat outside snapchat at all.
All of this bugged me alot since she barely allows me to have any female friends at all on snapchat
and even confronts me on a regular basis about the few female friends i have on snapchat who are
all childhood friends, but even those girls she have problems accepting.
Fast forward to this spring, my girlfriend passes out in the bed after a night out, with her phone
still unlocked on the kitchen counter. i dont have my girlfriends password to her phone and havent
snooped around in it since over a year ago. this time i did just that, i started reading her workchat
and noticed that shes been actively chatting to this mark since last summer and never even mentioning a single word about him to me. they sent around 50-150 dms per day to eachother. they did not flirt but this made me really uncomfortable, this made me eager to snoop further, but this requires a little bit of backstory.
A few months ago we had a incident in our neighbourhood, police arrived and came to all apartments and spoke to all residents. during this time we had 2 police officers in our home for a short duration
i noticed my girlfriend had big problems keeping her eyes of one of them, basicly undressing him with her eyes, i noticed this and it was really awkward and actually humiliating, the police left and well, nothing special happened.
Back to the night when i snooped through my girlfriends phone, i didnt really find anything special in the chat with this mark other than them 2 chatting like 2 crazy every day. so i decided to take this further, i figured if she would talk to anyone about anything it would be her best friend. so i checked the chat between the 2 of them.
what i could find was my girlfriend sharing pictures & videos of this police officer we had in our home to her best friend telling her that "this is the guy i've been talking to you about all this time, like jesus christ he is so fucking hot im about to die" and stuff like that, she even took it 1 step further and added him on IG so now theyre both following eachother. this policeofficer is also a completely random person to both me and her, none of us have any mutual friends or followers so she must have been purposely searching for him on social media and trying to make some kind of contact with him.
I just feel like when youre adding a complete stranger you just me on IG or FB, that means that youre showing that person that youre interested, atleast thats always how i felt when girls i meet randomly in stores or resturants stalks me on FB or IG and starts following me afterwards, and thats also how my girlfriend first started flirting with me when we first met..
it might also be worth noting that when my girlfriend and i first got together, some people i know warned me about how my girlfriend the past few years have been using her social media platforms to flirt with loads of guys and that i should be careful with her because she doesnt give a *** if guys have girlfriends or not when shes flirting.
Anyways, i dont know what to make of all of this and thanks for taking your time to read
i just need some help figuring out what i should think of all of this, is this something i should be worried about?

2023.06.05 23:48 dlschindler [Murder Of Crows] S1E1 I've Taught My Crow To Speak (Horror Occult Mystery Escalation)

I have a life and a death from crows. It all started with the one in the yard. My older brother was going to shoot it with his BB gun. I took pity on it and took a BB into my right hand that is still in there. It aches when there is a mist.
I awoke to the soothing clicks and hushes of sprinklers and the warmth of a summer afternoon pouring through an open window. Dreaming of the eyes of crows; I'd grown so fast I'd forgotten everything else. I'd learned to call them to my windowsill and I fed them there. Then the three crows would leave.
I could call the ones at the seafood restaurant where I work to give them food. Once, there was one in the trash, and someone had dropped the lid, trapping it. The others were all around and calling to me crazily. I opened the lid and it flew out and they all flew away.
Later, on my car, there were several gifts. Two pennies, a carwash token, some jacket stuffing, a yellow wire and a green pebble. I accepted the stuff on top of my car, noticing that the crows were watching to see what I would do.
Years later, I was in the park with my nephews. We saw a crow and two falcons. I said the crow would drive them off and it did. A few weeks later I saw a crow driving a bald eagle. In the air, the crows outmaneuver the larger birds and spook them from above. This is due to the crow's intelligence. It knows the eagle or hawk could destroy it. The crow is relentless and smart. It knows how to take the giant down. I realized I'd seen all of this before, crows driving squirrels, rabbits and even cats. It was no surprise that they went after other birds.
I'd once seen the crows, at the seafood restaurant I worked at, surround and harass a seagull to keep it from getting into the trash. They had learned the hard way that seagulls scattered trash and then the lid got left shut. So seagulls got banned by the crows. This one seagull wasn't getting the message until finally another crow showed up. As if they were waiting for this particular crow to arrive and swoop at the gull, they all did in unison, and the seagull suddenly figured out it wasn't welcome.
"And thus I tell thee of their ways, so that thou may kin mine, for these are the same. Together now, listen and I shall explain." I whispered my own words. Then I said what I wanted to explain: "Together I am yours and thou art mine. For mine eyes see as yours, and you heed my call. This I know and the secrets of your unhatched ones. The wisdom of the older and more gentle world, covered now in a layer of Man."
They didn't care about my words, it seemed. They had their own language, much older and wiser. I wanted to go with them and learn their stories. This was not the love that was meant to be. The worst of my days had yet to dawn.
In my heart I carried their shadows everywhere. It was a song I could always hear, their distant calls. Under each sound they made was a deeper meaning, esoteric and vast at once. Theirs was the whole world without time and they cast their shadows over Man since the beginning. They wished to show me some paths, I knew not why.
Here I would find a bush of strange berries. I ate them and became very sick. Then I could hear their music. It was upon the breeze, as I lay in my vomit, barely conscious. I could hear the world: I could hear the sound of violins in the grass, an orchestra of crickets, and the diva was the mother of my crow. She sang and I understood the emotion of the song: it was mourning.
I got up and continued to dig and accept money in the name of Man, as life demands. Each job was less beautiful and paid better. The crows applauded my masquerade with laughter and roasts of great merriment. I even took a woman, but it lasted only a few nights before I was tired of her words. I told her to go and she begged to stay. I could not abide her pleas nor her presence. She ended up staying and I left.
Just as well. My real friends were on the move. Something down on the port had drawn them by the thousands at eventide. I tread the path they showed me, and alighted upon my way, they danced with their wingtips. I saw then what this was to them.
Four crows stood in a cross upon the ground of the parking lot in the center of the white lightshaft. This cathedral they made; some court of maybe a thousand crows sitting and watching in silence. I alone witnessed this; that was not of the corvin bloodstock.
The female among the four hopped forward and then back and flapped her wings, scattering from the other three. Then the two crows left facing each other did fight. I had never seen two crows fight each other. It had rules; unlike the savage disciplines they admonished upon greater birds and beasts. They were fencing and sometimes they would stop and admire each other.
Finally the one was struck down. The matter was settled and all the birds took off. They did so just as the one that had stood before the two fighters gave one loud and shrill call. The air was battered by their wings and a passing bat panicked in their downdraft. Only the wounded fighter and his mother remained.
She hopped past him, tilting her head, and then she left him there. I can tell by their manners what their relationships are, sometimes. This was an obviously matriarchal approach. If I misunderstood it, then their was an added complexity to her abandonment of the fallen bird.
I lifted him from the ground. I took him with me.
Each day I tended to his needs. I practiced my crow noises on him and he made no response. One day he flew around my room so I opened my window and he flew out. He came back.
From then on he was imprinted on me and we went everywhere. He couldn't fly well anymore, they had clipped his wings during the trial-by-combat ritual I had witnessed. No crows spoke to him or to me when I carried him upon my shoulder.
I went on walks and he would open his wings to the breeze, as if pretending to soar. I had to get a staff to protect him from other animals, as our walks became our way. I quit my job and just lived off the money I had hoarded.
As we went I tried to speak to him with the words I knew in corvin, but he refused to know his own language for me. So I resorted to speaking to him in my own words: sounding as much like his own language as I could. This he liked and finally he made noises back.
As we walked I narrated the world around us and he would repeat, sometimes adding details. Some of his details were abstract; at first I did not know what he meant. Then I realized he was telling me about stories he knew about our world.
So I shared my own stories. I talked about my life and the things I had done. When he grasped the game, he told me his own life, using the language we had made to explain. His imagination was limited, he only ever spoke of places where we were. So to hear new stories I had to take him to new places.
That was easy, he guided me onto trails and paths where men had seldom, if ever, gone before. I saw springs and rocks that were from the dawn of the world and still held some magic where they stood in holy shade.
"Do not look, my Lord." Cory suddenly warned me. I did not heed him, and woe that I did not. For it was his words that might have spared me to know of one place and its denizen that has brought my heart to such pain.
She made me look by calling to me with melodious laughter from the branches and twigs that were too thick for me to penetrate. I saw her large brown eyes and her dark lips and the speckled light on her freckled cheeks. And then the dancing one was gone, silently across the leaves like a deer. I should have known fear, for such a thing to be, and to be near it.
"Must go now." Cory urged me. This time I listened, sensing that somehow I was in-danger.
Sometime later I saw a man walking with her. She had disguised herself to look like a woman, wearing clothing and speaking to him. Only her laughter was the same. Although I knew she was sincerely delighted by him, her sinister intentions were a secret I had to know.
At the edge of her ancient glade, surrounded on all sides by apartments, she stopped him. He stood in a trance and she shifted her form to her true shape as she fed. I watched as she extended her taproot to his heart, through his mouth. Her nourishment was the love he had to offer and it was her justice to have it. Mankind had destroyed her world and then forgotten her. She had done nothing to deserve this, she had given Man wisdom over the forest long ago. Forgetful Man had cut down her forests. She had a right to survive and she took no more than she needed.
When he had no more love to give her she found another. She discovered I was watching her and she changed her path. Then one day Cory warned me:
"This is too far, we have seen." Cory warned me carefully, in our hybrid language.
I was confronted by the creature. She stood in the early morning, barring my path with a sage smile, her eyes tilted down on me. I knew that to see her true countenance was both an honor and a threat. She was capable of defending herself and I knew her way. She would cloud my mind and take my love from within my heart. Yet she was not doing that. This was a parley.
"Stay away. I know your kind too, and it is not fair that you seek me." She spoke slowly and with a gentleness I was not expecting.
I felt sorry for her and agreed to stay away from her. She darted into some trees; the mists she disturbed, with her sweatpants worn over faun legs, made my hand ache.
"What is it?" Cory knew I was in pain.
"My hand hurts from the mist." I complained.
"The Martyr." Cory said strangely.
"What have you said? I don't know that word." I carefully asked.
"One who dies for another." Cory spoke in reverence. "He was around in the early dawn. The mist came and took his breath. He held her hand and froze that way, but her life was spared. She will always remember The Martyr she said again and again. That is her. Now we are in real danger." Cory told one of his stories. It was among the more comprehensible ones.
"I remind her of someone?" I asked, trying to be certain I was getting the point.
"I will always remember you." Cory agreed.
"What will happen?" I asked.
"Death will always happen." Cory told his favorite joke. Then he added thoughtfully: "Except when my Lord reaches down from the light and fixes the broken one's wing. That was a funny day."
"Indeed it was." I smiled.
"She will not forget." Cory decided to answer my question, in his own way. "She will remember."
"Some paths are best left unexplored." I realized. Had I not met her, I would not know the dull horror I felt. I knew that her world was not meant to be mortal, and yet now it was. In her shade she was waiting to die with her sisters, every forest that was gone. A timeless creature that had learned about time. She had taught Man how to love the living world, sharing her gentle wisdom long ago with an innocent species. Man, in return, had taught her about death.
She had told me it was unfair. I understood this, in my own way. I did not want the knowledge I had. It raged a kind of self-loathing in me, a kind of fear of The Other, and of discovering there wasn't one. Just me, I was the face of this animal she had fled from and fed on.
"What is her name?" I asked Cory, dreading that I should know the name of something as old as time.
"Khurl." Cory knew the names of all things. It was a specialty of his.
"Is she the only one?" I wondered.
"I don't know that." Cory knew something though and said: "There must be a death."
"How do you know that?" I wondered.
"Always when this is known, there must be a death. You know, now a death must be." Cory had a tone that was like 'of-course it's like this'.
We sat by the trail leading to her woods, when one of the men we had seen her with, was walking by us. He had a camera and a knife.
"My Lord, he was kissed by Khurl." Cory told me.
"I know." I got up and we followed him, Cory upon my shoulder.
We stalked him as he stalked Khurl. I had the advantage in the forest. My bird would go to the branches with his limited flight. I could track him with ease without giving myself away, by watching him with my spy.
...
I'm not proud of what I did to him, but it was necessary. The appalling facts of what I did and how I accomplished it are no longer important. His death was my fault and something that haunted me and plagued me from that day forward.
Indeed, if I had not become a murderer, the darkness would be our world, rather than my soul. The story of how the world changed anyway, and how my involvement was destiny, is what is important. I am sorry that I have omitted the details of that day, but I assure you that it is the consequences that matter, and not the events of that day.
And so, with a strange elation and the first pains of a heavy heart, Cory and I set upon the path of mysteries and horrors, darkness and redemption.

2023.06.05 23:43 finners15 ILPT Request: I've run into a landlord scam requesting hundreds of $$. How can I teach them a lesson?

He claims he is away in Texas preaching the Bible for a couple of years with keys and documents to the apartment in question. He has said to drive by an address (random I take it) and see if I love the neighborhood. He says he will Fed Ex the keys once approved and has attached a generic set of photos of a very luxury apartment. The rent is impossibly cheap for my area, especially with the luxury apartment photos.
How can I teach this scammer a lesson?
