All inclusive in DR with the best food?

2023.06.07 23:25 ---maven--- All inclusive in DR with the best food?

Friends and I are looking to go to Punta Cana next year and stay at an all inclusive resort. It'll be a larger group (12 adults, 4 kids all under age three) and we're looking for a spot with a baby/toddler pool and decent food. The short list so far is:
We're going to be hanging around the pool and eating/drinking most of the time, so the beaches and excursions don't matter so much.

2023.06.07 22:55 ---maven--- All-Inclusive Comparison help: Club Med Punta Cana vs. Dreams Onyx vs. Dreams Flora

Hi! A group of my college friends are looking to get together at an all-inclusive resort in Punta Cana early next year. A couple of us have little kids (ages 10 mo. to 3 years), and we figure the all-inclusive resort will be the easiest for families. Club Med Punta Cana, Dreams Onyx, and Dreams Flora were all recommended to us. Any insights on which one has the best food, best beach area, best toddlekids pools and isn't too big? We aren't going to be doing many activities, mostly just eating and drinking and enjoying the beach and pools.

2023.06.07 19:08 fxckruss 21 YR College Grad couple looking for vaca, 5 days, to spend 2-3k

Me and my girlfriend are going to graduate college in December and are looking for a good all inclusive resort to go to in January. Anywhere warm, and looking to spend 2-3 thousand total. I understand that Mexico is the cheapest, but we have been warned/asked by our families not to go for safety reasons. Interested in: being within close proximity to the airport, decent drinks/food, decent beach Not as interested in: amenities, night life, lavishness
Neither of us have been south of Florida and this is our first vacation together, looking more for relaxation than adventure. Any suggestions of destinations/resorts?

2023.06.07 18:54 hopeirememberthisid What is the most relaxing vacation you've ever had?

I have travelled quite a bit(about 50 countries) most of them as a backpacker staying hostels and sometime with family or friends staying in hotels. Last year I travelled for a few months and then joined my current job. I haven't been on vacation at all this year and I am starting to get stressed.
Instead of my regular algorithm where I just go to a country because a few cities look cool and improvise on runtime I'm looking for something different. I don't want a staycation. I still want a a vacation but as relaxing as possible. I like mountains over beaches. Though beaches can be nice too. I'm guessing I'll have to go and spend time in nature but curious on what you all have experienced.
Update - The last all inclusive vacation I did was in 2011 - it was a mix. I didn't have to think but we kept going from one place to the other. I don't like pre-planned vacations with groups as it feels like watching a movie. I still want to travel. I want to meet locals. Last year I spent sometime in Puerto Escondido in Mexico staying in a hostel and I had no big agenda. I was reading a book, learning Spanish, learning how to surf and randomly started learning how to do Salsa as the hostel had free lessons. I am tempted to do just that. I have never done an all inclusive resort type vacation. How has that been for you folks?

6 night trip to Cancun/Tulum in August
Hi - We are planning a trip to Cancun/Tulum in August and had a few first timer questions. We are Indians living in the US in our 30s with no kids and are a group of 4 people, girls and boys.
  1. How safe is Cancun/Tulum right now? Have read a lot of Reddit threads about general scams but wanted to know if I’m missing anything here.
  2. We are there for 6 nights, do you suggest sticking to Cancun or split it between Cancun and Tulum? This is our first time in Mexico.
  3. We are leaning toward booking an all-inclusive resort in Cancun? Any recs?
  4. Should we get a rental car while in Cancun/Tulum? Any other options?
  5. How bad would the sargassum be in August?

2023.06.07 18:42 IcyFlameZ007 Anyone tried Adonis Otel?

So I'm planning to visit Antalya in 2 weeks for the 2nd time. On my last visit I stayed at Wind of Lara resort and it was amazing but they increases their prices too much so I will not be staying there again.
I'm planning to staying at Adonis Otel this time since the price suits my budget. Its all inclusive so that's good. I'm picking this resort because of the price, it has nice views, their sea swimming area is nice and it's only a 10 minute taxi journey away from the city centre. The resort food isn't important but it would be a plus if its really good.
If anyone has stayed at this hotel or knows people that have, would you recommend it? Would you avoid it? Are there better seaside hotels for £100 (€115 $125) a night within 5 miles of Kaleici?

2023.06.07 18:27 OldFitDude75 Looking for a less-expensive all inclusive resort for a family (48, 48, 21, 18). My sons aren't teens anymore so maybe an adults-only?

Title. We looked at the Xcaret resort as it would offer lots of activities but it is insanely expensive. I think we will end up with two rooms, one for my wife and I and one for the boys, so we need a less expensive place. Thoughts?

2023.06.07 15:49 Ok-Temporary4466 Did they have Wendigo psychosis?

Some interesting reading from wiki-

In historical accounts of retroactively diagnosed Wendigo psychosis, it has been reported that humans became possessed by the wendigo spirit, after being in a situation of needing food and having no other choice besides cannibalism. In 1661, The Jesuit Relations reported:
What caused us greater concern was the news that met us upon entering the Lake, namely, that the men deputed by our Conductor for the purpose of summoning the Nations to the North Sea, and assigning them a rendezvous, where they were to await our coming, had met their death the previous Winter in a very strange manner. Those poor men (according to the report given us) were seized with an ailment unknown to us, but not very unusual among the people we were seeking. They are afflicted with neither lunacy, hypochondria, nor frenzy; but have a combination of all these species of disease, which affects their imaginations and causes them a more than canine hunger. This makes them so ravenous for human flesh that they pounce upon women, children, and even upon men, like veritable werewolves, and devour them voraciously, without being able to appease or glut their appetite—ever seeking fresh prey, and the more greedily the more they eat. This ailment attacked our deputies; and, as death is the sole remedy among those simple people for checking such acts of murder, they were slain in order to stay the course of their madness.[24]
Although in many recorded cases of Wendigo psychosis the individual has been killed to prevent cannibalism from resulting, some Cree folklore recommends treatment by ingestion of fatty animal meats or drinking animal grease; those treated may sometimes vomit ice as part of the curing process.[25]
One of the more famous cases of Wendigo psychosis reported involved a Plains Cree trapper from Alberta, named Swift Runner.[26][27] During the winter of 1878, Swift Runner and his family were starving, and his eldest son died. Twenty-five miles away from emergency food supplies at a Hudson's Bay Company post, Swift Runner butchered and ate his wife and five remaining children.[28] Given that he resorted to cannibalism so near to food supplies, and that he killed and consumed the remains of all those present, it was revealed that Swift Runner's was not a case of pure cannibalism as a last resort to avoid starvation, but rather of a man with Wendigo psychosis.[28] He eventually confessed and was executed by authorities at Fort Saskatchewan.[29]
Another well-known case involving Wendigo psychosis was that of Jack Fiddler, an Oji-Cree chief and medicine man known for his powers at defeating wendigos. In some cases, this entailed killing people with Wendigo psychosis. As a result, in 1907, Fiddler and his brother Joseph were arrested by the Canadian authorities for homicide. Jack committed suicide, but Joseph was tried and sentenced to life in prison. He ultimately was granted a pardon but died three days later in jail before receiving the news of this pardon.[30]
Fascination with Wendigo psychosis among Western ethnographers, psychologists, and anthropologists led to a hotly debated controversy in the 1980s over the historicity of this phenomenon. Some researchers argued that, essentially, Wendigo psychosis was a fabrication, the result of naïve anthropologists taking stories related to them at face value without observation.[31][32] Others have pointed to a number of credible eyewitness accounts, both by Algonquians and others, as evidence that Wendigo psychosis was a factual historical phenomenon.[33]
The frequency of Wendigo psychosis cases decreased sharply in the 20th century as Boreal Algonquian people came into greater and greater contact with European ideologies and more sedentary, less rural, lifestyles.[5]
In his 2004 treatise Revenge of the Windigo on disorders and treatments of the behavioral health industry in the United States and Canada that are peculiar to indigenous people, James B. Waldram wrote,[34] actual cases of windigo psychosis have ever been studied, and Lou Marano's scathing critique in 1985 should have killed off the cannibal monster within the psychiatric annals. The windigo, however, continues to seek revenge for this attempted scholarly execution by periodically duping unsuspecting passers-by, like psychiatrists, into believing that windigo psychosis not only exists but that a psychiatrist could conceivably encounter a patient suffering from this disorder in his or her practice today! Windigo psychosis may well be the most perfect example of the construction of an Aboriginal mental disorder by the scholarly professions, and its persistence dramatically underscores how constructions of the Aboriginal by these professions have, like Frankenstein's monster, taken on a life of their own.
The 10th revision of the International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems (ICD) classifies "Windigo" as a culture-specific disorder, describing it as "Rare, historic accounts of cannibalistic obsession... Symptoms included depression, homicidal or suicidal thoughts, and a delusional, compulsive wish to eat human flesh... Some controversial new studies question the syndrome's legitimacy, claiming cases were actually a product of hostile accusations invented to justify the victim's ostracism or execution."[35]

As a concept or metaphor

In addition to denoting a cannibalistic monster from certain traditional folklore, some Native Americans also understand the wendigo conceptually. As a concept, the wendigo can apply to any person, idea, or movement infected by a corrosive drive toward self-aggrandizing greed and excessive consumption, traits that sow disharmony and destruction if left unchecked. Ojibwe scholar Brady DeSanti asserts that the wendigo "can be understood as a marker indicating... a person... imbalanced both internally and toward the larger community of human and spiritual beings around them."[36] Out of equilibrium and estranged by their communities, individuals thought to be afflicted by the wendigo spirit unravel and destroy the ecological balance around them. Chippewa author Louise Erdrich's novel The Round House), winner of the National Book Award, depicts a situation where an individual person becomes a wendigo. The novel describes its primary antagonist, a rapist whose violent crimes desecrate a sacred site, as a wendigo who must be killed because he threatens the reservation's safety.
In addition to characterizing individual people who exhibit destructive tendencies, the wendigo can also describe movements and events with similarly negative effects. According to Professor Chris Schedler, the figure of the wendigo represents "consuming forms of exclusion and assimilation" through which groups dominate other groups."[37] This application allows Native Americans to describe colonialism and its agents as wendigos since the process of colonialism ejected natives from their land and threw the natural world out of balance. DeSanti points to the 1999 horror film Ravenous) as an illustration of this argument equating "the cannibal monster" to "American colonialism and manifest destiny". This movie features a character who articulates that expansion brings displacement and destruction as side effects, explaining that "manifest destiny" and "western expansion" will bring "thousands of gold-hungry Americans... over the mountains in search of new lives... This country is seeking to be whole... Stretching out its arms... and consuming all it can. And we merely follow".[38]
As a concept, wendigo can apply to situations other than some Native American-European relations. It can serve as a metaphor explaining any pattern of domination by which groups subjugate and dominate or violently destroy and displace. Joe Lockhard, English professor at Arizona State University, argues that wendigos are agents of "social cannibalism" who know "no provincial or national borders; all human cultures have been visited by shape-shifting wendigos. Their visitations speak to the inseparability of human experience... National identity is irrelevant to this borderless horror."[39] Lockhard's ideas explain that wendigos are an expression of a dark aspect of human nature: the drive toward greed, consumption, and disregard for other life in the pursuit of self-aggrandizement.
Romantic scholar and documentarian Emily Zarka, also a professor at Arizona State University, observes that two commonalities among the indigenous cultures of Algonquian language family speakers are that they are situated in climes where harsh winters are frequent and may be accompanied by starvation. She states that the wendigo symbolically represents three major concepts: it is the incarnation of winter, the embodiment of hunger, and the personification of selfishness.[2]

2023.06.07 15:49 Ok-Percentage1128 Cheaper booking through resort or more expensive booking through a travel agent?

Planning on booking our honeymoon for this DecembeJanuary. We have gotten a few quotes from a travel agent for all-inclusives in Punta Cana, Jamaica, and Mexico. The few that I've looked over have been more expensive than when I've done mock bookings directly through the resort. Is it worth it to pay the extra fee for the guarantee and benefits that come from a travel agent, or should I end up booking on my own to save the money?
I'm also very much a people pleaser and would feel terrible not booking through the travel agent after she's done all the work in coming up with quotes for us.

2023.06.07 13:19 Bananas_and_Oranges What would a trip to France actually cost? Specifically FOOD! (France vs. Tropical all-inclusive)

My husband and I want to go on a trip. It's always been my dream to go to Paris (this is literally the only thing on my bucket list!). I'm trying to figure out realistically how much this would cost. We don't vacation a lot and we don't have a lot of money, so this likely would be the only vacation we take for the next 10 years or so.
The flights are not as expensive as I thought. My main question - How much should I be expecting to pay on food? This is hard info to find on Google. Are chain hotels the best bang for my buck?
My husband is thinking that he wants us to go to Costa Rica, or some kind of tropical all-inclusive instead. I'm trying to gather information to make the best decision so we're both happy.
Budget: under $12,000
Length: 5-7 days
Interests: food, sight seeing. We'd love to visit nearby European countries as well. I'm not fluent in French but I speak a fair amount. We're not big drinkers, but we do drink if we're at an all-inclusive resort.
Places we've already traveled to: Dominican Republic, Cuba, USA (Vegas)
Date: we're flexible. We live in Canada, so I would prefer not to travel at a time of year that there would be snow in France
(Our marriage hasn't been the best in the last couple years, mostly due to having young kids back to back, family loss, etc. I would love for this trip to help us "reconnect". If you think a tropical all-inclusive vacation would be better for that than France, please say so and I'd love to hear everyone's experiences!)

2023.06.07 08:19 mihoooo Peru, 2 weeks in August

Hey, I plan to visit Peru in August with my girlfriend. We have 14 days which include the flights to and from Lima back to Europe. Our itinerary is more or less like this:
Fly into Lima. by bus go to 1 Paracas: Ballestas Islands to see marine wildlife. 2. Huacachina: Visit the iconic Huacachina Oasis. Enjoy activities such as sandboarding and dune buggy rides. 3. Nazca: Nazca Lines Explore the Nazca Desert and visit the Chauchilla Cemetery to see well-preserved mummies. 4. Arequipa: Explore the "White City" of Arequipa, including the Santa Catalina Monastery and the Plaza de Armas. If we have time take a day trip to the Colca Canyon to spot Andean condors.
FLY TO Cusco:
Explore the historic city of Cusco, including the Plaza de Armas, Sacsayhuaman, and the San Pedro Market.
day trip Rainbow Mountains Machu Picchu day tour?
Fly back from Cusco to Lima and home.
So is this to stresful for two weeks? Would you change something from the itinerary, maybe skip something? alteady skipped titicaca because it seems to need to much time and is so far away. Thank you all.

2023.06.07 05:40 max_miller_82 5-night Caribbean vacation in December - is all inclusive worth it?

Thanks in advance - welcoming all thoughts/opinions. I’m an award travel newbie, so bear with me.
~275k Marriott Bonvoy (gold)
~150k Delta Miles (gold) flying out of DTW)
I’m planning to take a vacation with my girlfriend in December 2023, hoping to make it as affordable as possible while still nice. I definitely plan to use all available awards along with some money out of pocket but hoping to keep it minimal (~$1,000). Ideally first class RT flight (2 tickets).
While searching through Marriott locations, we found several AI, adults-only resorts that seem quite nice and right in our points range or a bit higher. I believe all Autograph Collection. I’m not picky about the room size or amenities, but would absolutely prefer an ocean view. Balcony, room size, etc. are added bonuses but not requirements.
Two main questions:
  1. Is it worth it to book a more expensive (i.e. above my points balance, spending $$ out of pocket) all-inclusive resort? Do you find you can really extract all the value?
  2. Is there value in transferring Delta miles to Bonvoy, or vice versa? The conversion rate doesn’t seem entirely desirable IIRC.
I welcome any and all experiences and property recommendations that are close to where I’m at with points.
Thanks y’all

We embrace all styles of music as well as visual, performance and hybrid arts. With these goals in mind, each year NWEAMO organizes an international festival of music, often spilling into other arts. We are constantly seeking ways to evolve and adapt to a quickly changing world, and to be of service. This festival seeks to establish and showcase new modes of performance by focusing on works which play with the creative exploration of today’s emerging ideas, experiments, hunches and dreams.
The NWEAMO festival has traveled to Portland, San Diego, New York, and Boulder in the U.S., and to Mexico City, Berlin, and Venice. Since its inception the festival has featured an eclectic mix of performances filling concert halls with beats, newly invented instruments, video, dance, and electronic music rooted on seemingly disparate concepts and aesthetics. High and low, street and laboratory – everything converges by design at a NWEAMO event.

The Magic Hummingbird : Three San Diego, California teen rockers head to Tijuana to perform in a punk club on the TJ boardwalk... One of them, Francisco, was born in Oaxaca, Mexico but doesn't know it. He is visited continuously by visions and struggles to comprehend their meaning, being both scared and fascinated.

2023.06.06 21:52 Bravely_Default Looking for an all inclusive recommendation.

I've been doing some research and wanted to ask for any recommendations for an all inclusive resort. Last year we went to Excellence Playa Mujeres for our honeymoon and absolutely loved it, but are looking for something slightly more affordable this year.
Don't really have a lot of requirements besides: all inclusive, beach access, and good food/drinks. Adults only would be nice to have but its not a must. We're really relax by the pool/beach and never leave the resort kind of vacationers so don't really need a lot of stimulation offered.
I've been looking at Royal Sands and Golden Parnassus so far as being similar to Excellence but more budget friendly. Any thoughts on those 2, or are there others we should consider?

2023.06.06 21:15 EducationalBenefit12 Rhodes tips for 1 week / All-in resort

Hi all,
Will be staying at Helea during in a couple of weeks before summer. I’ve read that it’s package tourism, well we bought a holiday package if that is what the term means. Nevertheless would love to enjoy to the fullest!
Put in chatgpt some tips, but as we just stay only 1 week.. Does this make sense?
Here's a suggestion for two day trips, leaving plenty of time to enjoy your all-inclusive resort:
Day 1: Old Town Rhodes and the Surroundings
  1. Start your day by exploring the Old Town of Rhodes. Wandering its medieval streets is free, but visiting the Palace of the Grand Master will cost about €10 per person.
  2. Enjoy lunch in one of the local tavernas in the old town. Budget about €15-20 per person.
  3. In the afternoon, head to the Rhodes Archaeological Museum. Entry is about €8 per person.
  4. Round off your day with a visit to Therme Kallithea, a unique beach with beautiful architecture, and relax. Entry is about €5 per person.
Estimated total budget for Day 1: €80-€90 (for two people, excluding transport)
Day 2: Lindos and its Surroundings
  1. Start your day by visiting Lindos. The Acropolis of Lindos entry fee is about €12 per person.
  2. Have lunch in Lindos with an estimated budget of €15-20 per person.
  3. Spend your afternoon at St. Paul's Bay for some snorkeling. This is a public beach, so there's no entry fee.
  4. If there's still daylight and energy left, finish your day by visiting Tsambika Beach, another beautiful public beach.
Estimated total budget for Day 2: €70-€80 (for two people, excluding transport)
The cost of transport will depend on the type of transport you choose. The bus will be the most economical, but car rental offers more flexibility.
The above are rough estimates, and actual prices may vary. Always check current prices before your visit.
