About: In a controversial statement, user MagpieSoldier has declared their support for flooding in cities, arguing that flood prevention measures do more harm than good. The concept of flooding cities has raised eyebrows worldwide as it challenges long-held views on natural disaster management and the effects of climate change.
MagpieSoldier believes that flooding is a natural event that should not be prevented and that it is a necessary part of the ecosystem. They argue that building flood control infrastructure can disrupt wildlife habitats, damage forests, and increase pollution. They also point to evidence suggesting that floods can help the environment by replenishing the soil with essential minerals and nutrients.
The statement has raised many concerns from experts in the field, who argue that flooding can cause serious damage to property, risk lives, and cause disruption and economic losses. They point out that flooding prevention actually helps ecosystems, as it reduces the likelihood of catastrophic flooding and can enable communities to save important resources and evacuate in time.
Despite the counter-argument, MagpieSoldier's statement has reignited the debate over flood management and the effects of climate change. It is clear that this is an incredibly complex issue, and the potential implications of this argument require serious consideration.

About: A recent social media post development is creating buzz on the internet. Urist_Chensusaku, an internet personality, took to their page to explain why the "anus" is actually the "urethra of the buttocks", causing confusion and surprise among readers.
In their post, Urist_Chensusaku started by introducing their explanation by saying that although many people refer to the anus as the "butthole", it is actually the urethra of the buttocks. According to them, the urethra is a tube that is responsible for carrying urine, while the anus is the hole between the buttocks which is used for eliminating waste material.
Urist_Chensusaku further explained that the two terms are often confused because both the anus and the urethra are located in the same area. To keep them distinct, they suggested remembering the phrase "urine comes out the urethra, everything else comes out the anus”.
Since its posting, the explanation has been shared over 3,000 times and has garnered over 1,500 likes. The post has also gained traction among the medical community, with many doctors responding to corroborate Urist_Chensusaku's explanation.
This has certainly been an educational experience for many, and it's clear that Urist_Chensusaku's post has made an impact in the way people understand these two anatomical terms.

About: In a humorous post on Twitter last week, user zuzzu90 challenged the technological capabilities of bots and asked if they are capable of distinguishing between a thumbs up and thumbs down. The post featured an image of two computer-operated bots holding their hands up in the ‘thumbs up’ sign, essentially directly opposing the caption of the post.
The post, which has been retweeted more than 11,000 times, sparked a discussion on the current capabilities of bots — many users offering their own ideas for technologies that help bots better distinguish between images and objects in order to provide more comprehensive results.
Though it is apparent from zuzzu90’s post that there have been some issues with bots, it is also true that their capabilities have come a long way in recent years. With advances in artificial intelligence and machine learning, it is likely that bots will soon be able to accurately differentiate between various symbols such as a thumbs up and thumbs down.

2023.04.22 12:54 Left-the_burner-on He wants to quit
Partner wants to quit his cushy job (where he does F all) at the family business. He has threatened this before and changed his mind. Reckons if he quits he can make more money doing random website creations for people. He has no business plan and does these from the templates. They look fine and he’s done a few over the years for extra cash but in no way is that a viable, sustainable business and it’s not something he is passionate about. We have a 2.5 year old daughter. I work 4 days a week on compressed hours and she goes to nursery 3 days. For reference he’s never had a proper job since he was a teen and briefly worked as a waiter. Let me tell you, I’ve learned that this man is not capable of working for a business or regular employer hence the family job He cannot follow through on activity, follow rules or instructions. I suspect adhd for what it’s worth but he will never get diagnosed or visit a dr or therapist so no point me mentioning it. He started a part time degree last year and has since quit that.
So if he did quit we couldn’t move home without a stable income for him and me on a part time but decent salary. I earn more than him and ok enough but it’s still not enough for us all. Our current house is too small and he hasn’t even put up any shelves so it’s a mess and I can’t get away from work or my toddler for five minutes to do any myself. Also if anything happened to me how could he care for our daughter when he isn’t employed. He provides little value to me besides half the bills at the mo and now that looks to be in jeopardy too.
I imagine he will spin this and say I’m not being supportive when I trample on his plans. Potentially will claim he would support me if this was the other way around. He’s called in ‘sick’ today and is upstairs in his office while I solo parent as always.
I want to be prepared with my argument against this madness. Any advice?

2023.04.18 23:57 tvchase The Devil Makes Work for Idle Hands To Do
"Everything has already been done, every story has been told, every scene has been shot. It’s our job to do it one better." - Stanley Kubrick In my previous post, we went back all the way to the 1980s to learn a little bit more about how and why current events may transpire, and discovered how frequently today's storytellers gain inspiration from events of yesterday.
This time we won’t need to go so far, but what we'll learn is just as relevant, if not moreso.
Again, the most curious parts of the All Out media scrum come well after Punk’s tumultuous time at the podium, when hands that haven’t yet been played start being tipped. As he sits beside close confidante Chris Jericho, an AEW co-founder in all but name, Tony Khan gives us another plot-point on the map.
“Jon [Moxley] and Chris… I think of them almost like our Sting and Ric Flair, guys that have been there since the beginning that I can always count on, the first two champions of the company. Then the Lionheart thing, they showed that photo…
“Lionheart” Chris Jericho’s final ECW match “... I was there in 1996 when that photo was taken… Do you know what they chanted when Chris left?
They chanted, ‘You sold out!’, and Chris was the best young babyface in the world… I was holding a sign that said ‘CHRIS JERICHO IS THE BEST WRESTLER IN THE WORLD’.
It's funny, I actually had another sign… ‘SHANE HEARTS SHAWN’... but that’s another story…”
Well that story is quite interesting, so let’s hop in our time machine once again and set the dial to
1995. “The Franchise” Shane Douglas was one of the best young prospects of the early decade and his potential seemed limitless. He had originally been in WWF in 1990, where he made a name for himself filling in for the injured Shawn Michaels as Marty Janetty’s tag partner in The Rockers. Before his career truly took off, however, Douglas stepped away from wrestling full-time to care for his ailing father. He intermittently appeared for WCW, then ECW, where he finally became a top guy for bookers to build their cards around.
When he returned to WWE in 1995, Michaels, Kevin Nash, Scott Hall, and eventually Paul Levesque were in the process of consolidating their control over backstage politics and becoming tyrannical in the locker room. Michaels, seeing his potential, invited Shane Douglas into the fold. Considering the group overly childish, Douglas declined. After rejecting Michaels and The Kliq, the rest of his tenure in WWE was continually sabotaged. HBK vowed never to do the job against him, not even when Douglas was slated for a push with the Intercontinental Championship.
Douglas later said of Michaels:
"He had run his mouth when I was in Germany in the dressing room three weeks prior, saying he was going to embarrass me on national television. I said to Davey Boy Smith… if he tries to embarrass me on national TV, I'll stretch him... Almost within hours, I get the call that the finish has been changed and that Shawn has had a relapse of his concussion and can't perform...
That's Shawn.
"He's afraid of his own shadow. Not that I'm the toughest guy in the world, but I've always been very passionate about it. If you have a problem with me, we can just as easily go outside to settle it or we can settle it like professionals. It really doesn't matter to me. But if you go out and make a statement in front of the dressing room, saying you're going to embarrass me, then you can expect there to be a response to that.”
Douglas left the company the following year after Vince was infuriated that he wouldn't wrestle at the big Madison Square Garden show, despite a doctor explicitly telling him that if he worked through his injury he was at risk of paralysis.
This real-life drama centering around and emanating from the Kliq would become prevalent over the next few years. Although quite a scandal at the time and setting the tone for what was to come, it wasn’t even close to the most controversial Kliq incident at MSG that year.
May 19, 1996, would eventually be referred to as “The Day That Kayfabe Died”, but it started out as just a house show. At the time, Nash and Hall were leaving the WWF for Ted Turner's WCW. In the main event, Michaels faced Nash in a steel cage match, and Triple H and Ramon interfered on behalf of their respective allies.
After the match, as Nash and Hall began leaving the ring, Michaels and Triple H came back out to celebrate with them. For decades, heels and faces were strictly kept separate and not shown fraternizing with each other in public. The four wrestlers hugged inside the cage in front of tens of thousands of fans, unabashedly exposing the nature of the sport.
Imagine the discourse if the IWC existed back then... The "Curtain Call" wasn't shown on television, but it was captured on video by fans in attendance and later circulated widely on VHS tape and eventually online. It created a firestorm among fans and within the industry. A minority considered it a human moment showing the camaraderie that existed between wrestlers behind the scenes. From the locker room to the production truck, however, the common sentiment was that The Kliq had disrespected the business and betrayed the trust of the fans.
Triple H was the fall guy for the entire fiasco as two of the culprits left the company and Michaels was the WWF Champion. One week later, Scott Hall hopped the barricade at WCW Monday Nitro in Macon, Georgia (the same city to which Ole Anderson and GCW retreated over a decade earlier when McMahon forced them off TBS) and officially reignited a war that had lain dormant for years.
You know who I am, but you don’t know why I’m here… Jim Crockett landed his final counterpunch to the WWF in 1988 before throwing in the towel, but this was a real contender landing a real body blow. Excitement coursed through the WCW fandom as, for the first time in a long time, no one knew what to expect next. Nash began disrupting Nitro shows with Hall, the WCW roster became a snakepit of distrust in which longtime veterans accused each other of being in league with the Outsiders, and the intrigue reached a fever pitch with fan interest skyrocketing.
Unfortunately for Vince, the source of most of that electricity was in Atlanta. The ace of the WWF and its loyal company-man, Bret Hart, even began considering jumping to their rival, but McMahon was able to keep him with an unheard-of 20-year contract. In October, Hart announced this deal live in the ring, cutting a rare shoot promo where he openly discussed his negotiations with Eric Bischoff while putting over WWF as his permanent home.
Or so he thought.
Despite strong feuds pitting the Harts against Steve Austin and Shawn Michaels against the Undertaker, WCW spent a year beating McMahon at the box office, on television, and on pay-per-view. With the prospect of losing even more stars to his competition, McMahon came to view Hart’s massive contract as an albatross he would have to match when it came time to negotiate with others. Vince told Bret he was going to break the deal and that he should take an offer from Bischoff, which he did and was scheduled to begin on December 1st, 1997.
There was one major problem, however: Bret Hart was still the champ. As Survivor Series approached and his deal with WCW drew near, he refused to drop the title to Michaels in Canada. After a decade in the company, he was disgusted by Michael’s ego and treatment of other wrestlers with the backing of his cronies and the enabling of Vince. On the record and quite often in later years, Bret Hart frequently described the Kliq as
“literally a locker room cancer” and would not suffer the indignity of coronating their leader in front of his home fans.
Vince grew increasingly paranoid that Hart would take the title to WCW and obliterate the WWF's credibility. Thus, on the night of November 9, 1997, as Hart and Michaels squared off in Montreal, McMahon – flanked by all his stooges – instructed referee Earl Hebner to ring the bell and declare Michaels the winner of the match, even though Hart had not actually submitted or been pinned. A year and a half earlier, the WWF was incensed by The Kliq breaking "kayfabe", but it was this night where the company itself put a torch to the concept. To this day, the “Montreal Screwjob” remains the most controversial, discussed, and dissected moment in professional wrestling history.
The Hitman was of course outraged, feeling betrayed and disrespected on the deepest level. He spat in McMahon's face and destroyed ringside equipment in a fit of anger. Bret Hart’s final act in the WWF, as we would learn in the coming days, was throwing a haymaker upon seeing the leader of the company standing in his locker room as he emerged from the shower.
As with everything we’ve discussed in this series… Doesn’t it all seem familiar? When “The Last Survivor of Stu Hart’s Dungeon” muttered into Tony Khan’s ear that “Some shit went down in the back” directly in front of reporters, cameras, and a live mic, our minds would inevitably race back to that night in 1997. Looking closely, all along they had been conditioning us to expect it with locker room brawls fresh out of the shower... and even a screwjob finish.
So much of what we’ve talked about – what many of the key players have talked about – pertains to destiny and fate. But the Montreal Screwjob was not a death knell for WWF as many thought it was fated to be, just as Brawl Out was not remotely a nail in the coffin of AEW. Respective eras had already turned over into new ones that could not only weather those storms, but possibly even grow from them. The mid-90s was the most salacious era of professional wrestling, and today is the most self-aware.
As Shawn Michaels said back then:
“Do not confuse expansion with destruction.”
Those words, delivered to Bret Hart to justify and glorify his Kliq, came on Monday Night Raw back on October 6, 1997, a month before the Screwjob. Those words, in a deluge of insider lingo from the longest worked-shoot promo ever delivered on television at that point, capped the most significant week of programming in WWF history. Those words came the night after Michaels and the Undertaker delivered their landmark Hell in a Cell match, after the arrival of Kane, immediately after Bret Hart first declared HBK and his cronies to be “degenerates”.
Those words came seven days after the historic Monday Night Raw of September 29, 1997, which only grows more in significance as the years pass by. Sadly, that night was the last we ever saw Brian Pillman. That was the night the Kliq first began shooting about themselves on the mic and mocked McMahon about the Curtain Call at MSG a year prior. As for Vince himself, well, sure he was embarrassed at MSG the previous year, but also on the previous episode of Raw, taped the day earlier. That was the show where he took his first ever Stone Cold Stunner. But it was on
this night when the great villain of wrestling’s next decade was truly born.
Sept. 29, 1997, an iconic template was set. For weeks, Vince had refused to let Steve Austin wrestle after his neck injury at SummerSlam, and he vacated Austin's Intercontinental Championship. Increasingly frustrated, Austin escalated tensions with McMahon, who seemed to genuinely be concerned for the Rattlesnake’s wellbeing… until Austin finally attacked him under the bright lights of the world’s most famous arena.
It was on September 29th that McMahon told the world he finally had enough:
“You are either a certifiable lunatic, or you just don’t give a damn. Quite frankly, I don’t give a damn anymore either. I’ve allowed WWF officials to be placed in a position of jeopardy, and all because I tried to protect you from yourself. No more. No more. It stops right now.”
Austin:
“It sounds like you’re trying to lay down the law with Steve Austin… If you wanna fire me, go ahead and fire me, big shot. I really and truly don’t give a rat's ass what you do!”
Vince gives him three options: the first, provide a medical clearance form stating Austin is at full health; second, provide a legal document absolving the WWF of liability if he gets injured; or the third…
“I will do what I’ve gotta do… in terms of… termination.”
Well, Austin took that about as well as you'd expect from him, and after a few more curse words and a couple of middle fingers their relationship was clearly no longer salvageable.
The most crucial aspect was McMahon changing how their animosity was sourced from Austin being his own worst enemy and reframing it to Austin being the company’s worst enemy. Once that became the dynamic, where Austin stood as the unyielding nemesis of WWF and its figurehead, after Montreal it meant he'd become wrestling’s biggest hero. Initiating the Austin/McMahon feud proved to be Vince’s trump card in his war with WCW, a war that had kicked off in full when old prize horse, Hulk Hogan, joined with Hall & Nash to form the New World Order
449 days earlier at WCW Bash at the Beach.
It’s no surprise that comparisons would come, from Cody Rhodes, from Tony Khan, and from wrestling fans at large, who felt Punk’s return match at All Out 2021 – coupled with the arrival of Adam Cole and Bryan Danielson in AEW that same night – might be a spark similar to Bash '96. What is surprising, however, is how Punk himself felt:
“I’m not Hogan, I’m not Savage… Daniel Bryan and Adam Cole are not the Outsiders.
To me, this is bigger.”
When following up on his prediction a year later at the same event, square in the middle of his now infamous rant, he said:
“Look, I know it sounds like a pretty ridiculous statement, but in five years, I think you’ll see the impact of it.”
Isn’t it interesting that CM Punk would say such a thing in the middle of a press conference where he turned AEW on its head?
Of course, he was speaking from an understanding that pro wrestling in general and his contemporaries specifically have broken new ground by subverting history…
Like when Adam Cole received an intricately plotted farewell from the Super Kliq... … and by pushing stories beyond their previous limits…
CM Punk and Tyler Black threaten to leave Ring of Honor with the world championship, but fail; Punk escapes WWE with the world championship, but only briefly; Kenny Omega steals the AEW world championship, takes it to Impact, claims theirs, then adds a few more to his collection in the months afterward. But to do something even bigger than in those legendary days of 1996 and 1997 when professional wrestling caught fire like never before and never since, what would it take? The ambitions that have been laid on the table are in no way humble.
Another man arrived in the background of those Raw tapings from the final week of September 1997, and though his time in the WWF was brief, the lessons he learned became motives and actions two decades later.
At Winter is Coming 2020, Don Callis – the Vice President of Impact Wrestling – helped Kenny Omega steal the AEW championship from Jon Moxley, then declared they were taking it to another show. What they did was what Vince feared so long ago, what he feared so much he betrayed Bret Hart on live television, in a moment of infamy that hasn't lessened over 25 years later. “The Invisible Hand” took a rightful victory lap, swimming in the buzz and the uncertainty of what might possibly come next.
Speaking to Chris Van Vliet, he challenged us to think bigger…
Callis
: “Kenny and I have a lot of plans and what people are seeing on national television are the fruition of things. We take great pride in the fact that when people think they’ve seen the apex of it… we do something different and take it to the next level.”
CVV:
“I think fans have this idea in the world of wrestling that they think they have an idea what’s going on, and you’ve turned that on its head.”
Callis
: "I have no interest in the wrestling business in terms of tradition. I don’t care about matches, I don’t care about ratings. I care about making history, frankly. Kenny and I have changed history a couple of times now and we’re not done. There’s more to come.
CVV
: When you first got into the business, what were your goals in pro wrestling?
Callis
: If you were to look at promos I did in WWF in 1997… I was a total unknown. My first promo on Raw was not calling out a wrestler, I called out Vince McMahon. I said that I wanted to run the World Wrestling Federation. I wanted to run the wrestling business… I never had an interest in being a manager. I wanted to be the person pulling the strings… I don’t think the time was right. Vince McMahon was not a guy who was going to allow other people into the tent… That’s always been the goal.
CVV
: Well this may be a little bit of foreshadowing… You say you wanna be the guy behind the scenes pulling the strings. You are the guy pulling the strings at Impact Wrestling.
Callis
: I don’t like to limit it just to Impact Wrestling. The Invisible Hand has had a role in shaping-- What Kenny Omega and I have done is what everyone has been talking about for weeks now. We did it last night on Dynamite, we put the Bullet Club back together. No one thought that could happen. The Invisible Hand hasn’t stopped. The Invisible Hand doesn’t do this for accolades or ratings. I do it so we can change the business and shock people… I see the whole industry as the sandbox of Don Callis and Kenny Omega. We’ve taken some criticism for saying we're Gods among insects… We just think on a completely different, higher level.
Most people think week-to-week, show-to-show: what are we gonna do to pop a rating or who got over on a show… Kenny and I don’t care about those things. We really are thinking on a different plane… One thing we’ve tried to show people is, don’t limit your thinking. I love when people talk about “dream matches”... It’s so pathetic. Dreaming small. “Oh, I’d love to see this match…” Ugh. Dream bigger.
CVV asks Callis about his time in ECW as “Cyrus the Virus”.
Callis explains how he had legitimate heat with Paul Heyman for going outside of the promotion and approaching TNN about other endeavors when ECW didn’t have a good relationship with the network. Callis actually got very close with network executives and people backstage didn’t like it. Heyman and Callis decided to turn it into an angle that got massive heat. The topic returns to AEW.
CVV: “What do you think the outcome of that Omega/Moxley match would’ve been had you not interfered?”
Callis: “The finish of that match… The ending was never in doubt. This plan, in some or fashion, has been not years, but decades...
So now people have what they wanted. They wanted the old Best Bout Machine. They wanted Kenny Omega at the forefront of AEW. And now they’ve got it but people don’t like it because they can’t control it. ‘Oh, where’s the old Kenny Omega?’ Well, you were just complaining about the old Kenny Omega. Now it’s like… Don Callis is manipulating Kenny Omega. Kenny Omega is my family. People outside that family dynamic don’t understand…
I look after Kenny’s interest and it fits the overall plan. What we had with New Japan was the correct platform, what we needed was a plan to execute. So I called my best friend in the wrestling business, of 30 years, Chris Jericho. I asked him if he’d break every rule he ever had about never working anywhere other than for Vince McMahon. I asked if he would break that rule to wrestle someone who was my family. So yes, I pitted my best friend against a family member…
But thinking way outside the box, being able to convince Chris of that… We got to show people things can change and NJPW made millions off that match. You will never hear a thank you or acknowledgement of what I did. I’m not upset at all, because I didn’t do it for them. I did it for Kenny and I helped Chris as well. For everyone in the wrestling business who got raises because of AEW? Without the Tokyo Dome, Chris Jericho doesn’t leave WWE, he probably retires to be a rockstar. A thank you is owed to Kenny and I by the whole universe that follows pro wrestling, not anyone in particular... that’s small thinking.
Because Tony doesn’t like what happened at Winter is Coming, he shouldn’t bite off his nose to spite his face. Tony Khan doesn’t properly acknowledge what Kenny and I have done.
CVV: How does Tony Khan factor into what you have going on?
Callis: Tony is someone who was surprised by what happened [Impact talent arriving on Dynamite to help Kenny Omega, and Kenny saying “see you on Impact” as he leaves with the world title]
CVV: Well.. you screwed him.
Callis: Did I screw him or did I open his eyes? There’s a lot of people who are sycophantic yes-men who like to tell you what you want to hear. “Oh yeah, that’s great! Oh yeah, you can do no wrong!” And the wrestling media has done that for Tony… I haven’t acted like a yes-man… You can’t tell someone like Tony Khan ‘You’re doing this wrong, you better be careful’ because he’s only known success.
Tony had to have a failure in order to actually learn and evolve… Tony Khan understood that night and understands now: This is a whole different business and you can only trust yourself. I suspect there were a lot of people around Tony Khan that told him he was bulletproof and nothing like this could ever happen to him. Well, it happened. And he’s welcome for that lesson. At the end of the day, let’s be clear. Kenny Omega and I pull the strings. We control everything.
This is pretty unprecedented stuff.
Perhaps more succinct but no less emphatic was how Cody Rhodes put it when speaking to the AP a few days before his Wrestlemania main event:
My thing is: taking something that wrestling purists, analysts, observers, and journalists say cannot be done or will ever be done again, and subverting those expectations.
To subvert those expectations, you must first know them... And as has so often been proven, the most genius of wrestlers know the fanbase better than the fanbase knows itself.
Backstage at AEW Revolution 2021, Dasha Gonzalez asked Christian Cage what he thought of the way he debuted for AEW, coming in barely a month after his surprise appearance in WWE’s Royal Rumble. His comments echoed those from other masters of this craft, but we'll talk about most of those another day… for now we’ll just stick with these:
“Complete transparency, our initial conversations were me coming in being a surprise… The thing is, wrestling fans can be fickle, especially on social media. They want the backstage scoops. When you make a [mystery] announcement like that, you have people who want it to be their pick. They’re always going to be people super happy or super disappointed. All you can do is control what you can…
But after kayfabe got killed 25 years ago, how much remains to be controlled? Those glory days gave way to our current era where fans act insulted when a talent tries to work them, despite that being the point of the whole damn thing. Nobody wants to look like a “mark”, even though it’s marks who have all the fun and still feel the magic.
Even the \"Teleporting Man\" gimmick is a bit played out at this point. What can the workers do to pull off a work in this day and age?
Well, first they might warn us they know quite thoroughly how we think.
MJF, after winning the AEW championship at Full Gear 2022:
You people are fickle. Pretty soon you’ll be saying stuff like, 'I am sick of MJF. He’s so boring. He’s so repetitive. All he does is talk. He never wrestles. He’s a coward. He constantly makes his opponent’s jump through hoop after hoop just to get a match.'
Great!
Because you know who’s gonna keep tuning in week after week? You! [The championship] will be rarely defended and I will wrestle very rarely.
They also know we won’t take stock of certain things, like BTE 259 "Extremely Violent People". Two months before CM Punk’s arrival in their company, the Bucks get pissed at Rey Fenix for his minor interruption of the EVPs’ promo. What happens?
The EVPs ambush and attack him by a certain Pepsi cooler that keeps popping up in BTE segments… They know we’ll forget all about how they treated Dark Order on BTE 263, just over a month before CM Punk’s arrival in their company.
Bucks:
We’re pissed off!
John Silver & Colt Cabana:
What did we do??
Bucks:
What you did was wrong! You dug up old emotions… not cool. This goes back eight years… I don’t appreciate you guys going into business for yourselves! You know why? We’ve done enough for you guys already!
First you take over BTE, now you think you’re gonna take over AEW? Nah, enough is enough. Time for a change…
You’re kicked off the show!
It's been repeated ad nauseum by now:
“The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn’t exist.” I guess we’ve gotta give credit to the devil for pulling that one off, just like we would for any great magician. But remember, the greatest magicians always rely on one thing to pull off their biggest tricks:
Misdirection.
You see, sleight of hand works best when the mark thinks they can’t be fooled. They have their eye on the spot where they just
know the illusion comes from, and then it happens elsewhere. Is pro wrestling so different?
MJF
spoke with Sam Roberts shortly after All Out, in a great interview I strongly encourage everyone reading to give a listen when you have time. As we all know, if the camera is rolling, MJF is working, so considering that...
Sam:
You come out at the end of the show. CM Punk is world champion. You're one of two guys in AEW who's ever beaten him. To me, the story has been being told. That was act one, right?
MJF:
100% right.
Sam:
So you're there and he's got the title finally and you're there to spoil the moment... The fact that you stole his fans in that moment...
MJF:
In Chicago.
Sam:
In Chicago, is even more of this story! Maybe an injury happened. Don't know. Hasn't been on TV. Titles been vacated. All this drama that has nothing to do with what's happening on the AEW television show... The story that is being told through what you do in the ring, it is not that story that we started to see an inkling of at the Pay-Per-View.
MJF:
Honestly, I hear the word 'story' and I find it interesting.
To me, this is just reality.

This doesn't make him unique, as the core product of wrestling is essentially manipulation on a grand scale... he's just better at it than others (and they know it).
Wrestling as a whole is an industry built entirely on lies, and such a structure is perpetually on the verge of collapse. To safeguard against that danger, the foundations must be reinforced with elements of truth, the materials handled, measured, and poured only by those you trust and with whom you vow to chase the same vision.
A vow to stick together can cross immeasurable distances, scale the highest walls, and unlock the most sternly forbidden doors... The bonds formed between a group of people tend to elevate them all. So often, I am amazed by what one close-knit group can accomplish, even if at first glance...
... They seem unfit to manage a Target. Getting everyone on board, everyone manning their station, ensuring there are no leaks in the hull of the ship... Given what we know about the past three decades of the business, isn't that what "
wrestling purists, analysts, observers, and journalists say cannot be done or will ever be done again"? In and of itself, to do that
now would most certainly be "pretty unprecedented stuff", but what it would allow them to do is even more unfathomable.
When it comes to the magic of it all... the who, what, when, where, and why of something, that we
constantly obsess over and have consumed endlessly for close to thirty years... maybe that's the misdirection. If that is indeed what they've got us focused on, knowing us, knowing our myopia, knowing we'll do most of the work for them... then they can hide the big reveal in plain sight.
As I wind down this series, we're gonna talk about people who fancy themselves journalists, wrestling death cults, gambling addiction, and comic books, so buckle up...
From here, it gets really weird. submitted by

Then the Lionheart thing, they showed that photo… \"Lionheart\" Chris Jericho's final match in ECW “... It's funny, I actually had another sign… ‘SHANE HEARTS SHAWN’... but that’s another story…” Well that story is quite interesting, so let’s hop in our time machine once again and set the dial to 1995. Douglas later said of Michaels: "He had run his mouth when I was in Germany in the dressing room three weeks prior, saying he was going to embarrass me on national television. But if you go out and make a statement in front of the dressing room, saying you're going to embarrass me, then you can expect there to be a response to that.” Douglas left the company the following year after Vince was infuriated that he wouldn't wrestle at the big Madison Square Garden show, despite a doctor explicitly telling him that if he worked through his injury he was at risk of paralysis. Imagine if the IWC was around for this... You know who I am, but you don't know why I'm here... Jim Crockett landed his final counterpunch to the WWF in 1988 before throwing in the towel, but this was a real contender landing a real body blow. On the record and quite often in later years, Bret Hart frequently described the Kliq as “literally a locker room cancer” and would not suffer the indignity of coronating their leader in front of his home fans. As with everything else... doesn't it all seem familiar? As Shawn Michaels said back then: “Do not confuse expansion with destruction.” Those words, delivered to Bret Hart to justify and glorify his Kliq, came on Monday Night Raw back on October 6, 1997, a month before the Screwjob. But it was on this night when the great villain of wrestling’s next decade was truly born. A generation-defining template was set that night. It was on September 29th that McMahon told the world he finally had enough: “You are either a certifiable lunatic, or you just don’t give a damn. Quite frankly, I don’t give a damn anymore either. I’ve allowed WWF officials to be placed in a position of jeopardy, and all because I tried to protect you from yourself. No more. No more. It stops right now.” Austin: “It sounds like you’re trying to lay down the law with Steve Austin… If you wanna fire me, go ahead and fire me, big shot. I really and truly don’t give a rat's ass what you do!” Vince gives him three options: the first, provide a medical clearance form stating Austin is at full health; second, provide a legal document absolving the WWF of liability if he gets injured; or the third… “I will do what I’ve gotta do… in terms of… termination.” Well, Austin took that about as well as you'd expect from him, and after a few more curse words and a couple of middle fingers their relationship was clearly no longer salvageable. Initiating the Austin/McMahon feud proved to be Vince’s trump card in his war with WCW, a war that had kicked off in full when old prize horse, Hulk Hogan, joined with Hall & Nash to form the New World Order 449 days earlier at WCW Bash at the Beach. What is surprising, however, is how Punk himself felt: “I’m not Hogan, I’m not Savage… Daniel Bryan and Adam Cole are not the Outsiders. To me, this is bigger.” When following up on his prediction a year later at the same event, square in the middle of his now infamous rant, he said: “Look, I know it sounds like a pretty ridiculous statement, but in five years, I think you’ll see the impact of it.” Isn’t it interesting that CM Punk would say such a thing in the middle of a press conference where he turned AEW on its head? Of course, he was speaking from an understanding that pro wrestling in general and his contemporaries specifically have broken new ground by subverting history… ... like the Super Kliq's intricately plotted farewell for Adam Cole... … and by pushing stories beyond their previous limits… Skipping town with the championship belt is every wrestling villain's favorite plot. Speaking to Chris Van Vliet, he challenged us to think bigger… Callis : “Kenny and I have a lot of plans and what people are seeing on national television are the fruition of things. We take great pride in the fact that when people think they’ve seen the apex of it… we do something different and take it to the next level.” CVV: “I think fans have this idea in the world of wrestling that they think they have an idea what’s going on, and you’ve turned that on its head.” Callis : "I have no interest in the wrestling business in terms of tradition. I don’t care about matches, I don’t care about ratings. I care about making history, frankly. Kenny and I have changed history a couple of times now and we’re not done. There’s more to come. CVV : When you first got into the business, what were your goals in pro wrestling? Callis : If you were to look at promos I did in WWF in 1997… I was a total unknown. His comments echoed those from other masters of this craft, but we'll talk about most of those another day… for now we’ll just stick with these: “Complete transparency, our initial conversations were me coming in being a surprise… The thing is, wrestling fans can be fickle, especially on social media. They want the backstage scoops. When you make a [mystery] announcement like that, you have people who want it to be their pick. They’re always going to be people super happy or super disappointed. All you can do is control what you can… But after kayfabe got killed 25 years ago, how much remains to be controlled? Those glory days gave way to our current era where fans act insulted when a talent tries to work them, despite that being the point of the whole damn thing. Nobody wants to look like a “mark”, even though it’s marks who have all the fun and still feel the magic. Even the \"Teleporting Man\" trick has diminishing returns these days... What can the workers do to pull off a work in this day and age? Well, first they might warn us they know quite thoroughly how we think. MJF, after winning the AEW championship at Full Gear 2022: You people are fickle. Pretty soon you’ll be saying stuff like, 'I am sick of MJF. He’s so boring. He’s so repetitive. All he does is talk. He never wrestles. He’s a coward. He constantly makes his opponent’s jump through hoop after hoop just to get a match.' Great! The EVPs ambush and attack him by a Pepsi cooler that keeps on popping up... They know we’ll forget all about how they treated Dark Order on BTE 263, just over a month before CM Punk’s arrival in their company. Bucks: We’re pissed off! John Silver & Colt Cabana: What did we do?? Bucks: What you did was wrong! You dug up old emotions… not cool. This goes back eight years… I don’t appreciate you guys going into business for yourselves! You know why? We’ve done enough for you guys already! First you take over BTE, now you think you’re gonna take over AEW? Nah, enough is enough. Time for a change… You’re kicked off the show! It's been repeated ad nauseum by now: “The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn’t exist.” I guess we’ve gotta give credit to the devil for pulling that one off, just like we would for any great magician. But remember, the greatest magicians always rely on one thing to pull off their biggest tricks: Misdirection. You see, sleight of hand works best when the mark thinks they can’t be fooled. They have their eye on the spot where they just know the illusion comes from, and then it happens elsewhere. Is pro wrestling so different? MJF spoke with Sam Roberts shortly after All Out, in a great interview I strongly encourage everyone reading to give a listen when you have time. As we all know, if the camera is rolling, MJF is working, so considering that... Sam: You come out at the end of the show. CM Punk is world champion. You're one of two guys in AEW who's ever beaten him. To me, the story has been being told. That was act one, right? MJF: 100% right. Sam: So you're there and he's got the title finally and you're there to spoil the moment... The fact that you stole his fans in that moment... MJF: In Chicago. Sam: In Chicago, is even more of this story! Maybe an injury happened. Don't know. Hasn't been on TV. Titles been vacated. All this drama that has nothing to do with what's happening on the AEW television show... The story that is being told through what you do in the ring, it is not that story that we started to see an inkling of at the Pay-Per-View. MJF: Honestly, I hear the word 'story' and I find it interesting. To me, this is just reality. https://preview.redd.it/ftl4frywqpua1.jpg?width=1200&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2463dcf4617c0391af7fc2489285500160731e4d When it comes to someone like MJF, reality is always a matter of perspective, therefore, subject to manipulation. An unbroken vow can cross any length of distance and kick down forbidden doors. Given what we know about the past three decades of the business, isn't that what " wrestling purists, analysts, observers, and journalists say cannot be done or will ever be done again"? In and of itself, to do that now would most certainly be "pretty unprecedented stuff", but what it would allow them to do is even more unfathomable. When it comes to the magic of it all... the who, what, when, where, and why of something, that we constantly obsess over and have consumed endlessly for close to thirty years... maybe that's the misdirection. From here, it gets really weird. submitted by tvchase to AEWOfficial [link] [comments] |
2023.04.16 22:34 Toro_Actual 1.5y in consulting and looking for advice on how to deal with my manager's style
Hello, there
I've been feeling like I'm in a pickle here at work so I thought about posting this to check myself and gratefully read your comments.
After Covid, I pivoted into consulting, switched careers and all.
I'm an Associate (non-target MBA, late 30s) in a small team taking care of a particular market (based on spoken language), and I feel benched. Also, being the only guy who works in the market has made my director pretty much God in this region (Because those who can oversight don't speak the language). She decides what from town halls apply to us, what new procedures we'll adapt, or even the templates we use—everything created by her from a combination of old practices and corner-cutting.
My team is 3 people, a Director and two Associates (an AII and Myself, AI). Between my director and the AII, they take care of 90% of the engagement, I only work on the PPT.
This has been going on since my 4th month at the firm when my Director pulled me off as PM from a project and gave it to the other Associate; this happened twice and the reasoning was that I made a mistake.
I'm currently placed on PIP the for the following reasons:
1) Wrong billing code entry (happened twice to me but countless to other people at the firm)
2) PPT formatting errors (which I acknowledge; I never thought leaving a text in bold or not using the client's favorite font on an appendix divider could infuriate someone like that)
3) Utilization (She's been clear I am not to depend on her for work. Also, since my formatting errors could "put in jeopardy the firm's reputation and significantly impact the finances if the client doesn't sign next year" I am not to work with other teams; I am neither getting work, other than PPTs, nor allowed to pick up work from other teams. Whenever I get to work on a deck, the time allotted is ridiculously low (1.5h for a 60-slide deck) and I'm not allowed to bill anything more than that or she'll ask me to share my screen, go to that date and change to bill code to something that non-client.
When asked for her advice, she said to keep working on Business Development so I could bring a project I could bill to; I did, and it went to the other guy.
We have "weekly" 1:1s and it's mostly a monologue of what I did wrong under the facade of the "Start, Stop, Maintain Feedback Format." I put weekly on quotations because if that week I didn't work on a deck, she'll move the meeting to the following week.
90% of what happens somehow is on me; even when she gives away free analysis, the project hours blew because I didn't remove a page # placeholder.
Anything else I do it's put under the microscope and asked multiple questions, in sequence, many times even before I answer the first question.
Has this happened at your firm; if so, did the person make it out alive? I want to stay but IDK if I'm overreacting to her management style or if she's being unfair and ill-intended—which may not represent the whole firm. IDK if that's how it is or if she's quiet-firing me. I spoke with the partner but he tells me to keep at it and to listen to her guidance, I sometimes think he's turning a blind eye because she brings in $$$.
Should I go to HR, will they be fair and unbiased?
I guess what I'm trying to ask is, what should I do? Feel kind of lost here and Sundays are becoming my least favorite day of the week.
Thank y'all

2023.04.15 19:16 AnOkDaddy For those who have been laid off or are worried that they may be next
First off, as a former blue shirt I just want to say my thoughts are with y’all. There is nothing worse than losing your job or having to stress/worry that your job may be in jeopardy. I wanted to offer some words of advice as some of you may be looking for positions or for those that want to be proactive if they are worried that they will be next.
The first piece of advice I can give is to make sure your LinkedIn is up to date. Make sure you have a good profile picture, your info and contact info is up to date. Many recruiters and managers look through these profiles and a strong profile could mean the difference between getting an interview, or being ghosted.
Second, make sure you resume is up to date. There are tons of examples of resumes and templates out there but keep it simple, do not add a picture of yourself, and really think about your job, what you did, and your accomplishments. The difference between saying “I helped customers with purchases and scheduling services” vs “As a sales advisor, I worked with clients to find solutions based on their budgets and needs while also overseeing scheduling of services” (just an example) can make a big difference.
Third, network. Network network network. I cannot stress this enough. Building up your network is one of the most important aspects because it can mean the difference between having a sponsor or someone who speaks your name in a room when hiring conversations come up. This is also a chance for you meet others currently in a role. If you are interested in let’s say Account Management, finding someone on LinkedIn that you can reach out to and pick their brain about the role or the company could help you understand roles better as you apply.
Fourth, interviews. When you get that interview be prepared and be prepared with questions. There is an old test called the layover test that some recruiters still use. Basically if they were stuck with you at an airport bar for 30min would they enjoy the conversation or find an excuse to leave. Be pleasant, answer all calls in an upbeat and happy tone as you may never know when someone will call. Finally after the interview send a thank you email follow up. If for some reason they don’t hire you, ask for any future considerations and plan to follow up after a month or so (again building that network).
Lastly, realize that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. It can be hard to think positive when surrounded by negativity. Take time to enjoy your hobbies, stay connected to friends and family, and don’t be afraid to cry.

2023.04.12 16:49 bp000000 The Bar Exam: A Comprehensive Overview for the SLACKERS IN THE BACK
Hey Everyone,
Before I depart from this subreddit forever (thank God), I wanted to do one more comprehensive post to hopefully help first-time takers and retakers, and to provide a lot of great resources in one spot.
To those who passed: CONGRATULATIONS! Please feel free to comment on this post with what you specifically did that helped you pass (especially if you are a retaker) and provide any additional, non-copyrighted resources that you think people may find helpful. Many of you crushed the bar exam, so your insight is much appreciated.
To those of you who did not pass this time: I’m so sorry, I know that feeling and it’s the absolute worst feeling in the world. But everyone here and all honest practicing attorneys know that this is just a hoop we all currently must jump through. Give yourself some grace and take care of your mental and physical health. If you are looking for motivation: the feeling of overcoming that intense feeling of sadness associated with failing through hard work, grit and determination, against whatever tough circumstances you are facing, is worth every minute of misery spent studying. Keep believing in yourself! You can do this when you are ready.
With that said, before discussing the bar exam, here is a little bit of background information about me and my experience taking the bar exam. You can read about my experience below and access my outlines I created from scratch at the below link. Additionally, if you are looking for a tutor, I included a few resources as well.
Background:165+ LSAT (while working 60 hours a week), taught the LSAT while I was an accountant prior to law school, graduated roughly at median (but had a bad semester the semester my second son was born bringing me from top 1/3rd to median). I had two children during law school and clerked nearly the entire time I was allowed to.
First Attempt July 22: Total Score: 263 Written: 139.2 MBE: 123.3.
Second Attempt February 23: Total Score: 284 Written: 145.1 MBE: 138.9.
In short, I passed on my second attempt while working during busy season at a large public accounting firm while also managing being a father to two young kids. I have a JD advantage job that is transactional in nature that I genuinely love, so if you have questions about that feel free to DM me. Of course, that means I probably won’t even use my score (my work only cared I got a 260 and passed in a jurisdiction), but for me, this was personal and about closing a chapter of my life the way I wanted to.
My July 22 thoughts and breakdown can be found here:

SnooGoats8671 (u/SnooGoats8671) - Reddit. I know Sean Silverman is on here too and has chimed in on occasion. Happy to add anyone else here. Joe Seperac has a ton of knowledge as well and, I think, does some tutoring.
Lastly, nothing in the rules says we cannot all collude and work together to get as many people as possible to pass this exam. So participate in this subreddit and share your thoughts!
On that note, let’s get after it.
I. Study Strategy/ Schedule “To know thyself is the beginning of wisdom.”
That’s to say, there is no one right way to study for the bar exam. Some people have had great success with Barbri. Generally, I think the consensus on Reddit and among my classmates is that Themis is the better choice. I think the big question is: do you think you’ll need a structured study program to hold yourself accountable? If so, typical bar prep companies may be for you. With that said, you can study and pass the bar without paying for traditional test prep companies.
For me, I purchased Barbri and hated it. The videos were too long and were substantively too broad, meaning they covered everything rather than focusing on the core information that the bar exam tests. I just could tell it wasn’t going to work for me. And I didn’t really feel like I needed structure, I was more interested in just genuinely learning how the test worked, not being told how it worked.
What worked for me for the second round was: Adaptibar, Jonathan Grossman videos (all of them, especially mastering the MBE) through Adapatibar, and the Everything Pack from the NCBE. I didn’t really have an exact schedule, but generally, on days I wasn’t commuting (3 days a week), I would study 3 hours at night and 1 hour over lunch. On days I would commute, I either took the day off or I just tried to do as much as I could at night (typically an hour or two). I would also do 1 day a weekend roughly 6 to 8 hours straight.
I highly recommend starting with Jonathan Grossman’s videos. He has an ability to make the information entertaining, and he gets straight to the point. Think of it this way: those videos give you a good base of substantive knowledge to work from while answering questions. You should try to write the information from John’s videos as concisely as possible while watching the videos to stay engaged and to start building an outline (or pull up my outline while he is talking and go through it to feel confident you have that information). From there, you can answer questions w/ Adaptibar (actual NCBE questions except Civ Pro) and pick up additional nuances from the questions you answer.
After that, I think one thing I did differently that helped the second time around was I would do 100 questions of a single MBE subject in a row, and I did that for each MBE subject. The goal is to do the questions (you can do sets of 10 or however many you have time for) using the information from your outline while using the answers to the questions to add to your outline so that you become better at that particular MBE subject. It doesn’t really matter how many of these questions you get right or wrong, what matters is you take the knowledge from the answer choices and make sure they are in your outline.
Once, I completed all of the MBE subjects, I took a practice test to set a base score so that I had a metric to compare future practice tests to in order to see if I was improving.
Following the practice test, I would do sets of 25 or 50 questions mixed sets during the week at night AND REVIEW. You have to review the questions you miss and keep adding to your outline. Additionally, every other weekend I would try to take a timed 100 question practice test.
Once I was about a month out, I started to drill the rules for the most commonly tested MBE subjects for the MEE. I just drilled my MEE outline until I had most of the really important rules memorized (more on that below).
The week of the test, I took one final practice test Saturday morning, then switched to trying to jam as many of the MEE rules as possible in my short-term memory. I did that all day Sunday, and then for a few hours Monday, the day before the exam.
Other things I did that I think cumulatively made a difference the second time I took the exam: generally tried to exercise during prep when I could, took fish oil (highly recommend this), ate relatively healthy, didn’t drink alcohol, ate a ton of food and drank a ton of water the day before so I wasn’t hungry during the exam and could have a light lunch, and, of course, tried to get 6 to 8 hours of sleep.
II. MPT Honestly, I think this is the one portion of the exam where people who are good legal writers may not need a substantial amount of practice. Generally, a good way to determine if you are a “good legal writer” is if: 1. you did well in legal writing during law school, 2. you were on law review, or 3. you had a serious clerkship that required a significant amount of legal writing and you received positive feedback from your boss.
If that’s the case, then you might not need to practice more than a few MPTs. For me personally, I did well in legal writing and had a serious clerkship that required me to write complicated memorandums. I only did 2 MPTS each time I took the bar to ensure I could implement the below strategy and to make sure my timing was good. That’s it. I used this exact strategy and scored the following: on July 22, I scored a 4/6 for both MPTS. I’m not sure how I did on Feb 23, but if I had to guess I would say either a 3 or 4/6 for MPT #1 and a 5/6 for MPT #2. Just as an FYI, I’m guessing my MEE score contributed more to the increase in my written score.
Regardless of whether you are a “good legal writer”, I highly recommend you watch the BARMD video below on 1.5 speed (first link) and use the MPT formats from JD Advising (second link).
UBE MPT Tips – Use this Workshop for Your MPT Bar Exam Prep - YouTube MPT Formats: Attack Outlines For Each Type Of MPT - JD Advising I think my overall MPT strategy and the BARMD video can be summarized as follows:
- Memorize the JD Advising formats. Objective memorandum= IRAC. Persuasive Brief= CRAC. You are almost always guaranteed at least one of those.
- Read the partner memo. You must follow this exactly. Often times they throw in some goofy instruction e.g., capitalize all the words in topic headers. YOU MUST FOLLOW THAT INSTRUCTION. If you do not follow it, that is an easy way for them to start taking a large amount of points off.
- Use the appropriate template while changing anything to follow EXACTLY what the partner memo says. Again, what the Partner memo says goes.
- Write in the issues from the partner memo w/ appropriate headings. Write in a generic intro and conclusion at beginning and end of the memorandum.
- Go to the statutes/ case law and line up the issue & rule. You should now have your IR in IRAC (CRAC if you are writing a persuasive brief).
- Go straight to the case holdings. Match it up with the appropriate issue. and Write: In X case, the court concluded x, y and z because a, b, and c. In Y case, the court concluded x,y,z because a, b, and c. Basically, you are trying to synthesize the courts reasoning, so try to include some facts/ additional information from the case because you can use those later (see #9).
- So now you should have IR and part of your A.
- Re-read the facts from the partner memo of THIS CASE. Take notes.
- Make a second paragraph under the case holdings talking about the important facts in this case and comparing those facts to the summarized rules you wrote previously e.g., this case is similar to x case because a fact, b fact, and c fact; therefore, it’s reasonable to conclude the court will likely come to a similar conclusion.
- Spend the remaining time reading the cases and writing in the final paragraph of your essay for each issue comparing and distinguish the facts of this case and the cases.
- If a little extra time. Try to add some more color to your intro/final.
This strategy should save you a considerable amount of time and help keep you organized. The facts of the cases are there to confuse and slow you down so don’t get bogged down in the facts; you are just looking for the important ones (easier said than done).
Two other important pieces of advice:
First, I would either do the second question first or allow yourself to use an extra 10 minutes of time to do the first question. Typically, the second question is easier and shorter and the first question is designed to be a huge time suck (so some people won’t even get to the second question).
Second, bring the intensity. I think going as intense as you can and working as quickly as possible is in your best interest on the MPT.
Ok, I think that’s all I’ve got for the MPT.
III. MEE Similar to the MPT, I did not focus on doing a million MEE questions. Rather, I focused on memorizing the most commonly tested issues and rules. Once you have a solid MEE outline (you can also just use mine), you should go through the Everything Pack and just read the answers. See what issues come up. Do you have that issue/rule in your outline? If not, it might be worth adding the issue and rule. To decide whether to add it or not, I used Studicata’s percentiles of the likelihood an issue will be tested. So if it was just a one off type question, I ignored it.
Additionally, you can cut down how much you have to memorize by anticipating what questions will be asked. If you look at how often issues are tested, you can almost guarantee that you will receive a Civil Procedure question, a Criminal Procedure question, an Evidence question, and arguably an Agency/Pship question. That’s 4 of the 6 topics. From there, you can kind of predict what questions are going to come up. For instance, for Civil Procedure, they just tested PJ in Feb, so I can almost guarantee you next Summer there will be a subject matter jurisdiction + supplemental jurisdiction question. We also did not have Agency/pship, so I think that topic is likely to be tested as well.
After you study those 4 subjects, do your best to narrow down your focus. Typically, they will test Wills or Trusts, so if last time they tested Wills, maybe pick Trusts to focus on and just know some basics of Wills. I’m not saying don’t study certain subjects AT ALL. I’m saying strategically prioritizing your studying to decrease the amount of issues and rules you must memorize is smart. I correctly anticipated one of the non-mbe subjects in Feb, and I’m nearly certain that was my best essay (that or Civ Pro PJ which again I anticipated correctly). As an aside, a lot of test prep companies will put out predictions. Take those with a grain of salt.
Finally, be comfortable being uncomfortable. It’s almost a certainty you get at least one question you just think to yourself wtf is this? I didn’t know anything about one of the questions that came up in Feb, but I IRACed, looked at the question progression and facts, made up a rule that sounded reasonable given the context, and used every single fact they gave me. But even if it’s just a complete shot in the dark IRAC and using the facts alone should get you at least a 2. That’s easy points you don’t want to miss out on.
I would refer to my MEE outline primarily, but here are links to my posts covering MEE topics from July 22 (note that these are not meant to be comprehensive, rather a good resource to check your understanding against. I’d also recommend reading the comments as people had some fantastic contributions): Wills in a nutshell for the slackers in the back : barexam (reddit.com) Secured Transactions in a nutshell for the slackers in the back : barexam (reddit.com) Agency and Partnership for the Slackers in the back : barexam (reddit.com) Family Law for the SLACKERS IN THE BACK : barexam (reddit.com) Corporations and LLCs for the slackers in the back : barexam (reddit.com) CIV PRO for the Slackers in the Back : barexam (reddit.com) Property in a nutshell for the SLACKERS IN THE BACK : barexam (reddit.com) Constitutional Law for the SLACKERS IN THE BACK : barexam (reddit.com) Additionally,
u/SnooGoats8671 has some fantastic posts as well. I included a few below, I think these are great, the only suggestion I have is to try to keep the issue and rules as simple as possible:
Trusts MEGATHREAD for the LAST MINUTE MEE CREW: What we ACTUALLY need to know. : barexam (reddit.com) Family Law MEGATHREAD for the LAST MINUTE MEE CREW: What we ACTUALLY need to know. : barexam (reddit.com) Corporations & LLC's MEGATHREAD for the LAST MINUTE MEE CREW: What we ACTUALLY need to know. : barexam (reddit.com) IV. MBE The MBE is 50% of the exam. Typically, when people fail the bar exam, it’s because they didn’t do well on the MBE. Therefore, much of your time and effort should go towards doing well on the MBE. For Feb 23, I almost exclusively studied for the MBE.
My top tips for the MBE are:
- Slow down. The MBE is testing the substantive information in the different subjects, but the questions are also testing reading comprehension. Many times the wrong answer choices will seem correct, may be factually correct, may be legally correct, but are still not the best answer choice based on what the question is asking. It’s ok to go long on some questions because you should be able to pick up the time on easier questions. I genuinely do not think timing is much of an issue on the MBE, and there is no bonus points for finishing early. So take your time, make sure you bubble correctly, and read the question correctly.
2. Your answers should not come from your knee jerk reactions or based on what answers looks the best; rather, you should try to pick that answer that correctly states the substantive knowledge from your outline. Of course, some of the harder questions don’t just regurgitate black letter law, so you really have to think through the answer choices.
3. Try to form a judgment about topics to decrease the amount of information you have to memorize. For example, instead of memorizing all the rules to double jeopardy, just know it’s only applicable in certain instances when essentially all the stars align. So you should be generally skeptical that double jeopardy will apply. Example #2, nearly all evidence is relevant except for the 5 specific exceptions and if the evidence is too prejudicial to the jury. So don’t let the facts convince you otherwise by stating that the evidence is somehow inconsequential. You utilize this strategy for quite a few of the topics so that way you don’t have to memorize as much information.
- Use Process of Elimination. Even on easy questions, methodically go through each answer choice and eliminate the ones that you believe are definitively incorrect.
- I personally think some topics are easier to master. Contracts, Criminal Law, and Constitutional law are topics that are comparatively easier to master IMO. Doing really well in those subjects will give you some breathing room for some of the other, more difficult subjects.
- Speaking of difficult subjects, if you get simulated Civil Procedure questions that are absurd, I wouldn’t worry too much about them. In case you didn’t know, a large majority of the Civil Procedure questions in Adapatibar are simulated i.e., not real. Focus on the actual NCBE questions instead.
7. If you have it down to two answers, re-read how the question is asked and the specific facts the question gives you to determine the correct answer. Do not rely on the answer choices.
Lastly, I think typically people who do 2K+ questions and are hitting around that 65% correct threshold are sitting in a good spot. With that said, do not waste questions by just kind of doing them. I think you should be thoughtful in how you practice questions and spend time reviewing your answers. Every once in awhile you see someone on here who does 3K+ questions and fails b/c instead of learning the law they are simply recognizing answers.
I think Feb 23 MBE was specifically designed to try to make those people fail; which, is one of the reasons why so many people—myself included—thought the MBE was so difficult: the answer choices weren’t as straightforward.
Also, I thought this post by
u/SnooGoats8671 was really well done and worth including:
Final Megathread: 25 MBE Tricks I Have Known and Loved : barexam (reddit.com).
V. Some Final Thoughts Whether you pass or fail, this exam does not define you. I think the whole exam is a hoop jumping exercise and, especially after looking around the room in February, is an exam that incidentally discriminates against minorities, parents, people from low socioeconomic backgrounds, and really anyone who has challenging life circumstances.
I find it terribly ironic that the people who are failing this exam are often times the attorneys that we as a society need the most. They are people who wanted to practice in rural areas. They are people who wanted to represent those who cannot afford representation. They are people who wanted to go into non-profit work. If that’s you, remember why you wanted to be an attorney in the first place and know the work you are going to do is so much more important than this arbitrary exam, keep fighting!
It’s absurd that becoming a licensed attorney is in large part dependent on doing well on a 200 multiple choice question test that covers subjects we studied 3 years ago with outlines available and is administered by an unaccountable, third-party organization whose primary focus is to monetize the exam to the greatest extent possible (charging for handwritten scoring, charging to take the exam, charging for NCBE questions etc. etc. etc.). I understand the need to pay for the administration of the exam, but some of the fees are absurd.
Moreover, I also think the whole notion that this exam tests “minimum competence” is an absurd characterization of a two-day long exam that people study full-time for months for. Happy to take volunteers from the State Supreme Court Justices who want to prove this exam tests minimum competence by volunteering to take the exam while working full-time as a Justice.
No one in this country should pay $100K+ for law school (often with student loans) and spend 3 to 4 years of their life pursuing becoming an attorney only to be excluded from the profession for their inability to pass the bar exam. The pass rates are abysmal. . .it’s an absurd result, especially given how “inclusive” law schools constantly claim to be. And no one should be in the position to where they are spending over a year of their life studying for the bar exam.
Ok, I’ll get off my soap box. Wishing everyone except for the NCBE the absolute best moving forward.

Rusnak Creative recently removed all their gameshow templates from their site and I had them saved on an old laptop, but they got deleted when I was transferring files. Does any have a version of the Jeopardy template saved that they could send to me?
Edit: Also, if you have a rusnak template other than jeopardy, could you send me that as well? I make games for my family get-togethers and would really love to continue using these!

2023.01.16 21:31 Throwaway451684 No books, no lectures, just vibes. A Guide to UTA Nursing school
Hi everyone, there isn't much information out there for my upper division nursing students on how to study, what to study, how the program work etc. So I am making this post to hopefully explain to any current or future nursing students at UTA. There seems to be a veil of secrecy about the program when there is absolutely no need. The only thing I will disclose is that I got a 4.0 in nursing school and I only felt qualified to make a post unless I tested out my theories that got me a 4.0, so here I am.
I may or may not make a post about pre program information and how to get into the program, a lot of the courses I took now have different professors so the info may be outdated and I also did not have a 4.0 with my prerequisites so I may not be the best person about that topic.
*Some of this information may not make sense until you enter the program, so just bear with me.
Nursing school at UTA is split into 4 semesters: J1, J2, S1, S2. J stands for junior, S stands for senior. J1, J2, and S1 are the 3 main semesters of learning where you have courses that are heavily exam based. Most courses weigh exams at about 70% of the course grade (it varies per course, check the syllabus). Therefore, I want to give information on how to study for those 3 semesters. S2 semester is supposedly super easy with no tests as they want us to focus on our NCLEX licensure exam. The progression of difficulty according to many alumni and peers is S1 is the hardest, followed by J2, then J1. I don't know if I agree with that because I found them all difficult in different ways. As I stated in the title,
I did not read the books that professors assigned on a daily basis as form of studying nor did I attend every lecture in person. I found that going to lectures was a waste of time when I could spend my time at home studying, but if that doesn't work for you then you are welcome to attend lectures. I will also include information about N3366 (Pathophysiology) and N3365 (Pharmacology). There is a lot of information (as you can already see), so buckle up!
My personal thoughts on nursing school: I did not find it that stressful and I don't mean that in a way to discourage or dismiss the experience of those who have been through or are going through this program. I found that studying smarter significantly reduced the amount of time I spent studying which left me with a lot of free time so I ended up taking non nursing courses. I was able to work during my S1 semester as a PRN PCT (12 hrs per week) while balancing school and my S1 grades were some of the highest I got during nursing school. I studied about 2-3 hours a day about 5 days before every exam, the only actual recorded time of studying for me is ~12 hours for critical care exams. I don't know specific times because my studying would involve periods of focus then procrastination. To those who work full time, part time, have families etc. I will say they have a completely different experience than me and will probably be more stressed but
do not let that discourage you from becoming a nurse. I had some really great clinical professors, others were very mild/bad, but I personally found that S1 was my favorite semester BY FAR. I learned so much information that I felt that I could apply to actual nursing plus my clinicals and clinical group were so much fun. Many students will say that S1 is when things start to "click" when it comes to nursing and I would agree with them 50000%. J1 and J2 is just faking it until you make it honestly. 99% of students are new to nursing so PLEASE don't feel like you are behind. Remember that nursing is career of lifelong learning and that
nursing school is to prepare you for the NCLEX, not the job. I do think a great program like UTA helps prepare us to become a real nurse, so I promise you made the right choice with UTA. Regardless if you are AO or on campus, you will meet some of the most brilliant, intuitive, and intelligent peers and possibly even make lifelong friends. Everyone is scared at first, so don't be afraid to make the first step in talking to each other. Nursing school is not easy alone, so don't do it alone.
Now onto the "good" stuff :)
*Nursing school does not curve exams, they do "item analysis" and find questions that were performed poorly by the students and will give credit back if they deem it was not a fair question. Expect some exams to not have anyone make a 100 due to this.
*There is so much information that I will just cover exams. If you have specific questions over assignments or other, feel free to ask in the chat or DM me. I'll occasionally check this account.
*Common themes/TLDR: ATI dynamic quizzes, student success, Rate my professor (for additional advice), Deborah Hughes, and exam reviews.
Pre-program courses: N3366 (Pathophysiologic Processes), N3365 (Pharmacology in Nursing Practice)
- N3366 (Pathophysiologic Processes)
This course is basically taught by Deborah Hughes and you are in very good hands. She has prerecorded videos that explains every topic in detail that corresponds to the lecture notes. No matter what professor you choose Deborah Hughes' videos are used to teach (unless they changed it since I took the course). I'll be honest, I found this course semi difficult. Others not so much. This course is THE foundation to your nursing courses imo. It teaches you critical thinking using pertinent medical information. To this day, I feel I still use similar concepts to answer questions that were asked in future nursing courses. I suggest you watch her videos (she talks slow so you can 2x speed the video) multiple times while following along in her notes to help you solidify the information. Do the practice questions that are given in the course. If you feel that isn't enough, memorize the notes in whatever fashion you find best. Personally, I use ANKI or flashcards. Class averages stay around 80-88%, just know mid 80's are the average.
- N3365 (Pharmacology in Nursing Practice)
To me this was the hardest course, including all the upper division nursing courses. Drugs are incredibly memorization based and I had to study more in this class than I ever have. According to the rumor grapevine, they allow a blank sheet of paper for exams now so I am not sure it is as difficult. Our class exam averages were 75-88%. First test being the highest exam average. I believe they had a review session that included a Kahoot, some of those questions were tested on.
J1 courses: N3320 (Holistic Health Assessment), NURS3333 (Promoting Healthy Lifestyles), NURS 3632 (Clinical Nursing Foundations)
Highkey, J1 is very high school when it comes to the lecturing professors (except N3333). They make nursing school more stressful and dramatic than it needs to be. J1 is a bit shell shock because they throw 20 books at you and expect you to understand how to use them. I can explain them if you need, just dm or comment.
Trust me, it gets better. - N3320 (Holistic Health Assessment)
Arguably the hardest course in J1 based on averages. Expect first test avg to be about 76, but it will go up every exam to about an 84. Final exam is the easiest and had the highest avg.
How to study: If you like reading books, the book has about 4 pages of "tables" that have all the information you need for each exam. For example, exam 1 goes over chapters 3, 10, and 17 (idk the actual chapters just giving an example). There is a huge chart, spanning several pages, that goes over normal assessment findings and abnormal findings. THAT is what is tested on the exams. If you can: memorize all of it. But if you don't study that way, I have an alternative. UTA has what's called "Student Success", they give exam reviews 5 days before every exam. If you memorize all the information in that video, you will have about 80-85% of the tested information. What's the rest? Intuition. I know that is a stupid answer but seriously, sometimes the answer is just obvious. The exams also covers doing an actual assessment (so like the head to toe assessment), if you know how to do a perfect assessment, those are some freebie points on the exam. If you prefer in person lectures, go to lectures (I heard she sometimes gives answers to exams during lectures).
- N3333 (Promoting Healthy Lifestyles)
Really easy course, I kinda struggled at the beginning but it is an easy A. Student success does not offer anything for this course due to that. The course is basically regurgitating information or just not choosing the dumbest answer.
Best way to study: Read the PowerPoints once a day starting a week before the exam (if you have slow brain like me). I know some people that studied the day before and did extremely well, YMMV. If you don't want the lead professor to feel bad about an empty lecture hall, go to lecture. It will help reinforce some information. Lead professor during my semester was super nice.
- N3632 (Clinical Nursing Foundations)
Some people find this course about as difficult as assessment. Expect exam averages to be around 80-84%. It is a different way of thinking for sure. I got a C on the first exam so don't stress if you aren't getting high grades from the start. This course is trying to teach you about HOW to answer NCLEX style questions. Some information it is asking for can be specific but really the course is trying to teach you about general themes.
Prioritization, who to see first, ABC's, clean to dirty, isolation status, hand hygiene, knowing that sometimes the best answer is to ASSESS, least invasive to most invasive etc. Paying attention during the first 8 weeks of "smart lab" is VITAL, some of that information is tested. Other information that is tested is in supplementary documents for each module. Lectures are fairly useless imo because they have a guest lecturer every week but if you want to go, go for it.
How to study: Student success offers exam review or weekly question practice. Watch the recorded videos or attend them because that's how you practice learning how to answer NCLEX style questions. Exam blueprints offer some more specific information that you may need to memorize. Read through each topic that is listed from the blueprint and have a general understanding of it. Sometimes it may even have certain graphs or diagrams that (hint hint) you should memorize. The book has practice questions for every chapter, find out what chapters are tested on, and do the end of chapter questions. If the information is not pertinent, ignore the question (dumb advice, I know, but you will see when you practice them). Read the rationale for every answer and understand why the answers are right.
J2 Courses: N3261 (Nursing of Older Adults), N3321 (Nursing Research), N3381 (Mental Health Nursing), N3661 (Nursing of Adults)
- N3261 (Nursing of Older Adults)
Easy course, weekly discussions and quizzes. Quizzes are easy if you know how to use your resources, just know there is no lockdown browser.
Awful course. I truly don't know how to study for this class I'll be honest. I literally just prayed that I would get an A in the course. There are things called RAC (think) which are the bulk to the classes' grades along with knowledge checks. I think I had to write a paper also... my brain chose to forget this class. Knowledge checks are LDB and stupidly hard. Memorizing the book can be helpful but I don't think the course is worth studying for frankly. You are better off choosing a random answer choice and moving on. If you know the answer, great! If you don't, just pick one and move on. Expect class averages on the knowledge checks to be like 60-64% but it mostly depends on the professor. Lastly, follow the rubrics very closely for any assignment.
- N3381 (Mental Health Nursing)
Fairly straightforward course. In the past, this class was deemed more difficult than N3661 (Med surg) but I don't think that's the case anymore. Expect class averages to be around 85%. I don't think student success exam reviews are offered for this course.
How to study: The professor gives an exam review with about 40-50+ topics that you need to understand for the test. Use the book and lecture ppt or lectures itself to fill out all the information. Some information can be really obvious so focus on the topics that you don't understand. Memorize it. Plain and simple. If you need more time to memorize things, start earlier. I think she also does exam reviews, go to them or watch them (my memory fails me if she did this).
- N3661 (Nursing of Adults)
Hardest course of J2 imo. I did not get a single A on a test until the final. Just goes to show that you do not need an exam average of an A to get an A in the course. Professor offers bonus points for ATI if you do active learning templates, time consuming but it may be worth the effort if you have a 1 point letter grade difference. I don't remember exact exam class averages but I think it ranged 78-84%.
How to study: Lectures are somewhat helpful, I just watched the life360/TEAMS recorded videos occasionally but I felt there are better ways to study. Student success offers practice questions and have a list of questions you should practice from a book (listed below). I suggest you pay attention to the questions listed. Another way to learn is to go to exam reviews (I think the lecture before the test), she gives you specific information that you need to know which could equate to like 10 points on the exam. On our final she gave us a jeopardy review that had (surprise surprise!) information that was tested on. ATI offers dynamic quizzes with a question bank of about 2000 I believe. Honestly, there is only so much information that can be tested on, so cover your bases with those questions. Time consuming but worth it.
The link below is the book that is recommended by student success and has practice questions. You can prob find it cheaper elsewhere, try to make sure yours comes with a code for online practice which allows you to repeat questions.
https://evolve.elsevier.com/cs/product/9780323358415?role=student S1 Courses: N4581 (Nursing of Adults with Complex Needs), N4331 (Nursing of Children and Adolescents), N4341 (Nursing of Childbearing Family), N4199 (Role Development in Professional Nursing Seminar)
- N4199 (Role Development in Professional Nursing Seminar)
Easy and informative course for your nursing career. Participate in the weekly canvas discussion post and you get a 100% in the course.
- N4331 (Nursing of Children and Adolescents)
An easy course imo. Professor gives an exam review sheet around the beginning of the semester with about 50 ish topics that you need to understand/memorize. 2nd exam you get a 3x5 notecard. Expect exam averages to be around 90-92%
How to study: Use the lecture ppt to fill out all the information about the 50 topic exam review summary. Memorize those or just have a basic understanding of it. Student success is also provided as a supplementary, use the review videos to fill out topics on the Prof's topic review because it is more specific as to what you need to know. In total, if the topic is on student success that information is more reliable than the lecture ppt. I hope that made sense.
- N4341 (Nursing of Childbearing Family)
Somewhat difficult course. I would say about the same difficulty as Mental Health nursing from J2. Expect exam averages to be around 82-88%. Hoolapa (the lead professor of this course) can be pretty strict because she wants us to know the information well. She has lecture videos already recorded but uses lecture time to just reinforce. She also strangely only lectures to the right side of the class, so if you go to lecture and want to hear and learn... sit to her right.
How to study: Student success offers exam reviews. It gives about 70% of the information you need to know for the test. Once again, the rest is intuition or just guessing. There is open ended math on exams so KNOW your rounding rules and conversions. Professor offers practice math questions that are very similar to the test math, so practice it. Professor also offers office hour review session that hints to what you need to know for exams, going to them and following along with her (even if she grills you for not knowing things), will be extremely beneficial.
- N4581 (Nursing of Adults with Complex Needs)
My favorite course of all because Deborah Hughes basically taught the information. Deborah Hughes is NOT the lead professor for the course but she has "supplementary" videos for the whole course. I did not attend any lectures because the lead professor (Prof. Reid) just does Kahoots the whole time that you can access at home after "lecture". Lead professor has "escape rooms" that are on google forms. You also get an exam sheet that is front side only 8.5x11. I personally found that I knew the answer to questions without looking at my "cheat sheet" but would check it as a way to confirm my answer choice. This class is considered THE HARDEST in the program so be kind to yourself. The lowest exam average (exam 2) we had a 76 while the highest was the final with an 82ish.
How to study: Watch Deborah Hughes student success recorded videos. She talks kind of slow so I watched all the videos at 2x speed. Print the "Hughes' Clues" notes and fill it out as you watch her videos. Watch the video multiple times to REALLY reinforce the information. I personally watched the videos about 3-5 times. By the time the final came around, I barely studied because I got tired of the information - study to the point that you can basically predict what Hughes will say next. Professor Hughes has videos for the final which summarizes things well. Another thing Professor Hughes does is she hosts an exam review. I suggest you go to them. Write any information that she talks about that you don't know onto your exam sheet. Professor Reid's escape rooms give you specific information that you might need to know on the exams. Go through them and then look through the rationale that is explained on every question after submitting. Write any information that you know you can't memorize or don't understand onto your exam sheet. Professor Reid likes definitions, use the quizzes from the course for ways to define certain terms that are pertinent to the course (that Hughes covered in her videos). Reid also likes to hint about exam topics on her Kahoots, it is worth doing them (multiple times! treat it like practice questions) and write down any info you don't know for certain. Put them on your exam sheet. Start making your exam sheets about 1 week before exams so you don't cram and stress the night before.
If you find yourself struggling a lot in this course even after following my advice or you might want extra information, please DM me so I can offer some extra suggestions. *N4581 is notorious for being the course that causes people to fail so I want to include some extra information outside of how to study. DO NOT give medications without doing the medication sheet - you will be failed clinically and therefore fail the whole course. Keep the amount of medications you give to a minimum, the more meds you give the more chances you can be failed in the event you fill out the paperwork incorrectly. Lastly, DON'T piss of your clinical professor, they can make your life a living hell.
*N4581 Professor Reid offers 2 whole points that can be added to your course average for doing PrepU's. Just do them on time, it could make the difference between letter grades. I did them when I got tired of watching Hughes' videos.
Last words: I do not think a 4.0 will make me a great nurse but I really wanted to challenge myself to see if I could do it. I know many other students that are incredibly smart but just aren't good test takers and that's OKAY. Know that nursing school isn't meant to be easy and sometimes professors expect you to think like a nurse with years of experience but that's not possible because you are a
nursing student. Be kind to yourself mentally and physically, get some quality sleep because that's how your brain processes and stores information. And to my nursing majors that have made it this far, you guys are doing amazing and you are going to do great things!
I wish you all the best of luck in your future! (I know I'm gonna need it)

2022.11.28 20:56 EarFatigue Passed C207! Version 4 Tasks and OA tips
Version 4 of C207 is relatively new (added July 2022?) and there doesn’t seem to be much info on it. The course material isn’t difficult, but I found it very convoluted. Trying to figure out how to tackle it can be overwhelming and the course mentors typically give you a generic response of ‘read the textbook, join the live cohort’ unless you have a very specific question/problem.
This post is going to be long af, sorry about that. This course is notorious for needing multiple task revisions so I tried to capture everything that might be relevant in helping you avoid that– which is a lot. Hopefully, this helps someone who is as lost as I was
Relevant to both Task 1 & 2: - First: search “C207 Express Cohort” in the course search. Watch the modules and write down the module number and time anytime the instructor mentions the tasks. This is important because they give you good examples of the answers and language certain sections are looking for and you may need to reference them while doing the tasks (I did, several times).
- For each assessment, scroll all the way down to SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS. That’s what you need to get started, you will also need a recent version of excel and to enter your student ID correctly on the first page of that document once you open it. Version 4 DOES NOT REQUIRE OUTSIDE SOURCES. All the data is given to you. You should not have to cite anything.
- For each assessment, you will turn in the excel document you just downloaded and worked on. You will ALSO submit a ‘report’, which is a word document broken down into each section with your answer. There is no template for these, but you can easily make your own by copying the section letters, titles, and the -competent- qualifications under each section into a word document. Follow the rubric to a T and notice the very specific language used for each competency. I personally like to bold the specific words they are looking for so that whoever grades it can’t possibly miss it.
- Example: Competency wants the justification for using ‘X’ as the analysis technique and supporting relevant details from the scenario. I will literally write: The justification or reasoning for using ‘X’ analysis technique in this scenario is because it ‘Y’. The relevant details from the scenario that support this decision are ‘A’, ‘B’, and ‘C’.
- Remember to delete any instructions/rubric stuff in the template except for the section titles before you turn it in – it will mess with your similarity score. On that topic- it's totally normal for your analysis similarity score to be 90ish percent. Your report should be much less than that, but it's normal to have 10-30% similarity score since such specific language is needed. Don’t sweat it if you’re in that percentage.
Task 1 Specific: - Search “Version 4 C207 Task 1 Regression” in the course search. This page will walk you through task 1. It is mostly written instructions. Take it section by section so you don’t get overwhelmed.
- Pay special attention to anything highlighted in yellow or orange. Those highlights almost always indicate specific language that must be in your report.
- Sections B2 and C1 refer to your analysis. I used the snipping tool to take a screenshot of my calculations and visual display, then inserted them into the document. I don’t think you have to do that and can just say ‘pictured in the analysis document’, but I didn’t want to chance it.
- Scroll to the bottom of “Version 4 C207 Task 1 Regression” and open ‘Linear Regression example .pdf.’ This page has lots of good examples you can refer to. It really helped me figure out what certain things were supposed to look like and what info I needed for different sections.
- Remember that linear regression indicates relationships NOT causation. Its important to not use definitive language like “X causes Y”. More like “There is/isn’t a significant relationship between X and Y, it MAY indicate Y”.
Task 2 Specific: - Search “Version 4 Task 2 Decision Tree” in the course search. This page will walk you through task 2. It is mostly written instructions. Take it section by section so you don’t get overwhelmed.
- Scroll down to the bottom of “Version 4 Task 2 Decision Tree" and open ‘Slides Decision Tree Using Excel.pptx’ This PowerPoint has most of what you need to know, it will also show you how different tables and visual elements are supposed to look.
- Sections B and C1 refer to your analysis. I used the snipping tool here and inserted pictures from my analysis.
- Make sure you are using the same unit of measurement/time throughout your tables and decision tree! If your data has monthly profit/percentages, then only use monthly! Same with annual. The only return I got on my task 2 was because I followed the examples- which used annual amounts when I was supposed to use monthly (according to the data provided in the analysis). It was an easy fix since I used formulas to calculate my answers.
- There is some formula calculations in the analysis. You don’t have to use the formulas in excel (you can do them by hand and write in your answer), but your life will be easier and you are less likely to make mistakes if you write the formulas in excel and refer to the cells of the different variables.
OA tips + concepts to know: - The PA and OA are very similar, but the PA has more clearly definition-based questions and the OA has more situational questions. Think “What kind of analysis would a company use to determine the outcome of multiple possible actions?” versus “Company X can do action A, with details, action B, with details, or action C, with details. They want to pick the one that will give them the most payoff. Which type of analysis would they use to make this decision?”
- Start at the ? mark and work your way backwards. Sometimes the questions have a bunch of fluff irrelevant to what is actually being asked and can overwhelm or confuse you. Read all the answers at least once.
- The modules from “C207 Express Cohort” will tell you almost everything you need to know. Pay attention to whenever the instructor says “a key word for this is” and write them down.
- Review the OA prep bonus (word problems) and jeopardy review. They are tremendously helpful for dissecting the questions on the assessments.
- Know mode/median/mean
- Know each data type
- Know all the analysis and test types, and what they are used for. T-test, anova test, regression analysis, decision analysis, and crossover analysis, among others. Be able to describe them in words and know which situation/business problem calls for each type.
- Know ‘bell curve’ like the back of your hand. Be able to draw it on your white board. Know what the percentages indicate. Know standard deviation
- Know the difference between P-value, R-square, and Z-score. Know what they mean/indicate.
- Know the formulas for indexes and Z-score. I never had to do the actual math for these on the OA but I did have to know how to write out the formulas (in words, not in numbers, oddly enough)
- There was like three math problems on the OA. They are basic algebra. You need to be able to read a graph and know whether X or Y is the dependent/independent variable to be able to solve them.
- Know quality assurance vs. quality control. Other quality-related stuff like six sigma, lean systems, quality philosophies
- Know the charts! Pareto chart, histogram, Run chart, control chart, flow chart, cause and effect (fishbone) diagram, and check sheet. If it’s a chart know what the heck it means and how it's applied and the keywords that indicate you need to use it. This is right up there with the diagrams and analysis types. You will see a LOT
- Know KPI, NPS, and balance scorecard. Know when to use each and the pros/cons. Pay close attention to these types of questions because a lot of them are tricks. Remember, start with the ? mark and work backward before you pick an answer.
- Know the keywords for Bayes/combination/addition/multiplication theory.
Another thing -> If you get Dr. Johnson as your instructor, lookout for an email from them with their personal notes. Their notes are extremely helpful but not in the course material and, unfortunately, I do not have permission to share them.
