2023.05.30 23:45 Commercial_Writing_6 Asking for Campaign Suggestions/Ideas

I'm working on a PF1e campaign in Ustalav. The story is that there are three powerful undead that in one way or another may achieve godhood via a necromantic ritual. The three undead are a Samasaran vampire, an Ettin ghoul, and a Human spectral undead. The ritual involves a powerful relic of Pharasma called The First Tears. They are the first tears she shed in mourning of the old multiverse after the birth of the new one. They are contained in a sealed vial and may be on a chain to be worn around the neck. While the First Tears would have other properties, the important ones for this campaign involve consuming them. If a mortal creature consumes a drop, then they gain a permanent necromantic effect. Seeing spirits is one example. I haven't fleshed out the rest of these effects yet. Should a mortal consume all of them, they gain the entire list of necromantic effects and become infused with the essence of Pharasma. This would allow them to be detected by certain creatures and relics. Were an undead to consume them, they would be be either severely hurt or outright destroyed. In order to do the ascension ritual, an undead must filter the Tears through a mortal vessel (or multiple mortal vessels) and then consume the mortal in a fashion appropriate for the individual undead. So, the vampire would drink its blood, the ghoul its flesh, and the spectral undead its soul.
The vampire is a Samsaran. He himself is intentionally seeking out the Tears. He's been in this current "life" for far too long, and he originally was seeking a way to outright break the rules of undeath and reincarnation. But, it became a moral crusade wherein he now wants to grant self-willed undead a chance at a sort of redemption. If they willingly seek out this vampiric god, they may be reborn into a new life for a second chance. The vampire has financial and political power in Ustalav and a bit beyond, but he works through decoys and catspaws. One of his minions is a rakshasa with some character levels. Not only is the rakshasa his spy, he's also an alibi, and a body double so that he could pull the whole "I can't be a vampire. Holy symbols don't bother me!" thing.
The Ettin is a ghoul, and has some nasty templates applied to make him a high-level threat. He himself is not intentionally seeking the Tears, only the vampire is. The Ettin has a 30-year cycle of activity. It wakes up, eats a few villages, then goes back to sleep for 30 years. Now, the real brains behind the Ettin is a cleric of Ghlaunder. This cleric wants to breed airborne versions of various undead diseases, like ghoul and ghast fever. He's bred a new subrace of goblins that ooze a gross, yellow pus. He's bred together ghoul fever with goblin pox. The cleric has been using the goblins' raids as a means of hiding the Ettin's rampages via a series of caves underneath Ustalav. When it's about time for the Ettin to awaken, the cleric has some Goblins move the Ettin to the area the cleric wants to use for his testing of new disease strains, then waits. A couple weeks prior to the awakening, the cleric will dispatch the goblins, allowing them to raid to their heart's content. The cleric, through his own research into necromantic topics, knows of the First Tears and the ascension ritual. He sees the Ettin as a means of bringing Ghlaunder onto the world stage. You se, the cleric has successfully bred an airborne version of ghoul and ghast fevers. They hang in a cloud around the Ettin, infecting those who get too close. Were the Ettin to consume enough mortal flesh imbued with the Tears, then it could ascend to godhood.
Last but certainly not least is the spectral undead. I haven't determined the exact type of undead yet, but I do have some backstory. The spectral undead was a child living in a small Ustalav village decades ago. This village got attacked by the Ettin. Somehow, this child survived, hidden away. The Ettin eats pretty much anything made of flesh it can find. The child, being too young to take care of itself, dies of starvation. Upon being released from its body, the child's soul felt an insatiable hunger. Seeing the nearby souls of his family, having become minor spectral undead themselves due to the traumatic nature of their deaths, the child consume their souls, feeling full for the first time in weeks. The child now follows the Ettin, hanging out in the Ethereal Plane and consuming the souls of the Ettin's victims. Were the child to consume the souls of those infused with the Tears, it could ascend to godhood. The child may end up acting as a hidden lose scenario, if the PCs never learn about it.
I'm looking for ways to make the campaign and flesh it out, allowing a level 1-17ish campaign. I'm looking up esoteric monsters and undead. Their first boss monster will be a penanggalen.

2023.05.30 23:18 bobbywws Which card pairs best with my C1 Venture X: C1 SavorOne, Amex Gold, Amex BCP?

Hey everyone. I'm pulling my hair out trying to decide which of these three cards to pair with my Venture X. I'm looking for a 2 card rotation, with the Venture X being my catch all. Outside of travel (which I would prefer to use the VX on) my main points of spend are groceries and dining, and admittedly I don't spend a ton on either. I'm no stranger to the points transfer game, so I want to build up and hold onto those points. My family and I travel 6 ish times a year, always one international, the rest domestic. I work remotely so we digital nomad maybe one third of the year. I've got a spreadsheet, I've ran numbers, and I still can't figure out which of these 3 cards to mainly use (I have all of them already). The way I see it:
SaverOne: 3% on groceries and dining, no FTF, can transfer cash back into C1 miles, no AF.
Amex Gold: 4% on groceries and dining, no FTF, earn MR points, has the $250 AF, I use roughly $120 ish of the $240 UbeGrubhub credits, I got this card for the SUB. I do think it might be nice to have a foot in the Amex MR mainly for travel partners like Delta and ANA. Otherwise, I would pool points from MR and C1 into the same transfer partner. Is it dumb to try and use two separate travel portals?
Amex BCP: 6% on groceries, but has an FTF, $95 AF, I do use the $84 Disney/Hulu/ESPN bundle credit, is cash back instead of points. I mainly included this one as the 6% on groceries would make for decent cashback, and I would hover right around 6k annually on grocery spend so I'm not too worried about going over. I guess I would just take the cashback from my statement credit and put it into my travel savings account or something and get 4.2% interest on it until I use it.
Sorry for the novel, and thanks in advance! Also, sorry for the messed up formatting below on the template.
***
Current cards: Venture X, 2023, 40k CL; SavorOne, 2015 as Quicksilver and upgraded in 4/23, $5,750 CL; Amex Gold, 10/2022; Amex Platinum, 4/23; Amex Delta Platinum, 2/23, 5k CL;
Amex BCP; 2015 as Everyday Clear and upgraded 10/22, 30k CL; Venmo, 1/23, 13k CL; Chase Freedom, 2016, $4,400 CL (AU on my wife's card, we never use this because she doesn't like rotational spending)
FICO Score: 775
Oldest account age: SavorOne (from Quicksilver) & Amex BCP (from Everyday Clear) both 2015
Chase 5/24 status: Do they count charge cards and card upgrades? If so, 7/24. If not, 3/5.
Income: $90,000 annually
Average monthly spend and categories:
Dining $250
Groceries: $500
Gas: $100
Travel: $1,000
Other: Bills and Mortgage roughly 4k
Open to Business Cards: e.g. Sure
What's the purpose of your next card? Travel
Do you have any cards you've been looking at? I own all of these cards listed, currently.
Are you OK with category spending or do you want a general spending card? I would prefer non-rotating, with an emphasis on groceries first, dining second.

2023.05.30 22:37 chuckhustmyre [TH] MIRROR IMAGE by Chuck Hustmyre

Sometimes when you look into the mirror, the mirror looks back.
William Bailey's forehead shattered the mirror like a sledgehammer. The last thing he remembered before he blacked out was the feeling that he was falling through the mirror. Sub-cranial hematoma, a concussion, maybe even a cracked skull--that had to be the reason for the strange feeling. The mirror was mounted on the wall just to the right of the bar, four feet tall by about three feet wide. As consciousness slipped away, common sense and his strong belief in the rational world told him that he couldn't fall through the mirror. He must have bounced his head off the wall and be falling toward the floor.
It seemed like just a second or two before William's eyes popped open. He lay on his back, on the hard wood floor of Fausto's, with Johnny Davis towering over him. Big Johnny probably wanted to finish him off, maybe kill him, and finally end their twenty-year-old feud. Either Big Johnny Davis and the ceiling lights above him were spinning, or William's head was spinning, but either way something wasn't right.
He raised his head and looked to his left, toward the bar. Except the bar wasn't there. Instead, he was staring at the bathrooms. That didn't make sense. It must be his brain that had gotten spun around. William turned his head and peered over his size-ten wingtips at the busted mirror. The wooden frame and most of the glass still clung to the wall, the rest sat broken on the ground. The bar had to be on his left. He looked again, and still saw the bathrooms. A brain bruise, maybe some fluid pressure building up might be the cause of it.
"Get up!" Big Johnny Davis said.
William looked up at him. Johnny stood behind him, just beyond his shoulders. Perfect place for him to stomp my head into the plank floor. Except Johnny Davis was holding out his hand.
"Come on, we've got to get out of here."
Davis looked scared. It was the first time William Bailey could ever remember Johnny Davis looking scared. William had always been scared of Big Johnny, but Big Johnny wasn't scared of anything or anyone.
Police sirens wailed in the distance.
Johnny glanced over his shoulder. William craned his neck to look where Johnny was looking, saw he was staring at the front door like a man terrified something bad was going to come through it. Big Johnny looked down at him again and pumped his hand. "Come on, get up. They'll be here any second."
"Who?" William asked. "Who'll be--" But before he finished, Big Johnny Davis reached down, grabbed him by both arms, and jerked him to his feet.
As he was dragged toward the door by the only man in town who truly hated him, William glanced up and saw the rusted metal sign nailed above the door. He had to have a concussion, probably severe; that had to be it, because the letters on the sign were backward. It said TUO.
As Johnny Davis pulled him out the door, William heard tires skid on the pavement.
"Where's your car?" Johnny asked.
William twisted away from the big man's grip, then turned to his left. "In the alley." He started to run, still not sure exactly what he was running from.
Behind him, Big John shouted, "The alley's over here."
William kept running but turned his head back toward Johnny. "I know where the alley--"
Something hit him across the midsection and toppled him to the ground. He got his hands up just in time to break his fall and managed to keep his head from slamming into the sidewalk. When he looked up he saw a shopping cart tumbled onto its side.
Once again, William found himself lying flat on his back, this time amid the spilled contents of the cart. It had been filled with junk: paper bags full of dirty clothes, canned food, bags of potato chips, a diamond shaped, orange road sign, and other trash that looked like it had been collected from back alley garbage bins.
The homeless man who'd been pushing the cart was scrawny, and wafer thin. His skin was the color of old shoe leather, and he wore a long gray beard, tangled and matted with food and bits of filth. He was sprawled on the ground next to his cart, half sitting up, staring at William with his bright blue eyes.
Car doors slammed, men shouted.
"You better get going," the homeless man said, as he cocked his head. "The police after you?"
Police!
Before William could assure the old man that the police weren't after him--he was a respected businessman and family man--someone behind him grabbed him under both arms and pulled him to his feet. William turned and found himself staring into the face of Johnny Davis. "The alley's that way," Johnny said, pointing to the other side of Fausto's. With one hand gripping William's jacket, Johnny dashed across the front of the bar toward the alley. The alley--right there, plain as day--on the other side of Fausto's, right where it shouldn't be, where it couldn't be. William had been here a thousand times. As you stepped out of the bar, the alley was on the left, Brockton's Ace Hardware on the right. Now everything was mixed up and in the wrong place.
Johnny Davis turned down the alley, dragging William behind him. After just a few steps, a spotlight flashed in front of them.
"Stop!" a voice commanded. "Get on the ground."
William couldn't see because Johnny was in his way. "Who's that yelling?" he asked.
Big Johnny stopped and William plowed into his back.
"Get on the ground," the voice boomed again.
William poked his head out from behind Johnny Davis's back. The blinding white light was in his face. He couldn't see a thing.
POP! POP! POP!
Gunshots.
Big Johnny sagged, then crashed to his knees. Instinctively, William bent forward and grabbed hold of Johnny. "What's the matter?"
More pops.
Johnny's big hand reached out and shoved William back toward the street. "Back door," he wheezed, then plunged forward onto his face.
William stood alone. Behind the white spotlight he saw blue police lights flashing. He was totally exposed.
POP! POP!
He saw flashes--little yellow spurts of flame--as something tugged at his jacket.
William had said "back door." What back door? Fausto's had a back door, but it didn't lead anywhere except to the open space behind the building used for trash and deliveries. Twenty feet of asphalt between the bar and the back of the building on the next block. William had parked his car at the end of the alley, but the police cars--or whatever they were--had the alley blocked off. The building behind Fausto's also had an alley that ran alongside it, but the owner had closed it off to keep the bums out. He'd put up a gate, padlocked it, and topped it with razor wire. It was a dead end.
Two more pops. Dead end or not it was better than standing here and getting shot. William turned and ran. He burst through the front door of Fausto's, dashed through the bar, past the shattered mirror, hit the back door at a dead run, and was outside behind the bar within seconds.
He could see the tail end of his car sticking out from the corner of the building, but with the cops blocking the alley, his car was useless to him. William glanced across the open space to the alley that ran next to the other building. The gate, the padlock, the razor wire--all still in place. To his right an overflowing garbage dumpster sat beside the back of Fausto's, jammed against the fire ladder.
The fire ladder.
An iron ladder bolted to the cinderblock wall.
William looked up. The top of the ladder was lost in shadow, but he knew it went up two stories to the roof. Last summer, when the toilet had stopped up, he'd come out back to take a leak and had stood behind the dumpster, peeing against the wall like a kid, one hand draped over the bottom rung of the ladder.
He slipped behind the dumpster. The smell made him gag. The bottom of the ladder was four feet from the ground. William reached up as high as he could, grabbed hold of the third rung, then hauled himself up.
Through the partially open back door came the sounds of heavy feet pounding on the hard wood floor of the bar.
Halfway up the ladder, he was exhausted--and scared. Shaking, he white-knuckled the ladder. Being more than ten feet off the ground terrified him. He needed a break, just a second or two to catch his breath. There was enough moonlight so he could see into one of the second story windows. Inside, junk was piled everywhere. Old barstools, a busted jukebox, furniture stacked almost to the ceiling. Years ago, old man Fausto lived on the second floor, but Jake, who'd bought the place from the old man and had decided to keep the name, used it for storage.
Below him, William heard the back door thrown open so hard it banged against the wall. He scrambled up until he reached the top of the ladder, then hoisted himself over the edge of the roof. Down on the ground a voice shouted, "There he is, up there."
Another gunshot. What the hell was going on?
The unmistakable sound of feet--fast feet, in shape feet, boot shod feet--scurrying up the ladder. Standing on the tar and pebble roof, William glanced around for something he could use as a weapon, shocked he was even thinking of such a thing. A five gallon plastic bucket was all there was. It stood upright, filled with rainwater. He picked it up and peered over the edge. A uniformed policeman was three quarters of the way up the ladder. Two more cops were right behind him.
William looked at the heavy bucket in his hands, thought about just dumping the water onto them but knew it wouldn't stop them. There was only one way to stop them, and that was to knock them off the ladder. He thought about warning them, maybe trying to scare them away. But they were cops. You couldn't scare them away.
So why had they shot Johnny Davis, and why were they shooting at him?
The first officer looked up and saw William staring down at him with the bucket in his hands. Their eyes locked for just a second and the cop stopped. In those eyes that stared back at him, William saw an almost maniacal determination that sent a shiver down his spine. The officer held his grip on the ladder with his right hand while his left dropped to the pistol resting in his gleaming leather holster. In one smooth motion he drew his gun and raised it toward William.
William Bailey tossed the bucket down the ladder. A shot rang out an instant before the heavy bucket thudded into the cop's head. Like a gruesome traffic accident happening before his eyes, William couldn't help but watch as the policeman fell, taking his two partners down with him. The last thing William saw before he turned away was a jumbled heap of black uniforms resting on the concrete below the ladder.
* * *
Hiding in the shadow of a telephone booth, thinking. Home. He had to get home. Had to get back to Marge and the kids. Maybe somehow he could explain what had happened. Vincent, his attorney, he would know what to do--maybe--but he was a civil lawyer not a criminal attorney. He wrote contracts and did personal injury on the side; he didn't get people out of jail who'd killed a cop by dropping a bucket of water on his head and knocking him and his buddies off the side of a building.
As the cab he'd been waiting for pulled up, William stepped out from the dark and climbed into the back seat.
The driver turned around. "Where to?"
William pulled the door shut. "Uptown. 1721 Audubon Court."
"Fare's gonna be about fifteen dollars. After dark, I gotta have the money up front."
"What?"
"Company policy." The cabbie shrugged. "A lot of drivers been getting stiffed."
William opened his wallet, pulled out a twenty and handed it across the seat. The driver took it and almost slipped it into his cash box, then took a second look at the bill. His face tightened. "What the hell is this?"
"Huh?"
With the bill stretched between his hands, the cabbie stared at it for a second then looked up at William. "You're either the dumbest counterfeiter who ever lived or you've been had."
"What you are talking about?"
The driver faced the bill toward William but didn't hand it back to him. "It's printed backwards."
William looked at the twenty-dollar bill in the man's hand. It looked like--it was--an almost brand new bill, nothing wrong with it as far as he could tell.
"Get out of my cab," the driver said.
William didn't know what the man was talking about but knew he didn't want to get out. This cab was his only way home. He reached for the twenty. "If you don't like that one I've got another--"
The driver pulled his hands away. "I ain't giving this back. I got to turn it in to the police." He dropped one hand behind his seat back, then came up clutching a pistol, an old German Luger by the looks of it, the muzzle aimed straight at William's face. "In fact, I bet they give me a reward if I bring you in with it."
William jerked the door handle and rolled out into the street. He sprang to his feet and ran, the driver's yells just background noise. Has everyone gone crazy or is it just me?
Home. He had to get home.
* * *
Rain. Driving, relentless rain. William was just two blocks from Fausto's. In two hours, that's as far as he'd gotten--one block an hour. Police cars prowled the neighborhood, shinning spotlights into every nook and cranny, lighting up every shadow. Everyone in Fausto's knew his name. He'd been going there three or four nights a week after work for years. The cabbie had his address. William had given it to him when he told the hack driver where to drop him.
Ten o'clock at night, with nowhere to go and no way to get there, William sat behind the closed Goodwill store, under an overhang that barely kept the rain off of him.
Huddled in the dark, head sunk between his knees, he hadn't heard anyone approach.
"You don't look so good."
Startled, William looked up, prepared to run again. It was the homeless man he'd knocked over outside the bar. The one with the shopping cart and the leathery skin. William relaxed a little. "Excuse me?"
The man pushed his cart closer. "You're not supposed to be here."
William looked around. "Why not?"
The old man grinned, half his teeth gone.
William found it nearly impossible to tell his age. The guy could be forty and maybe had lived a hard life, or perhaps he was a well-preserved seventy, pickled by a lifetime of booze. William waved him off, expecting a plea for money. "I can't help you."
The old man stopped just a few feet away. "Everything's out of place isn't it?" He had a strange lilting voice. Almost like an accent.
And he was right. Everything was out of place--from Johnny Davis to the cab driver--everything was wrong.
Strapped to the back of the old man's shopping cart was a plastic sign about the size of a loaf of bread. William recognized the sign, the words, the colors, the logo of a local supermarket chain, all were familiar to him, but the letters were backward, unreadable.
Rainwater ran down William's face. He pointed to the sign. "Why's it written like that?"
The old man looked at the sign then back at William. "Like what?" he said, then shuffled away behind his basket.
* * *
The rain came down even harder. William slouched in a darkened doorway across the street from Fausto's. Nothing made sense. Everything was messed up, backward, out of whack. Almost like this wasn't his home, like he was a stranger seeing it for the first time.
But that was crazy. He'd grown up here, gone to Brother Martin High School, dated Jenny Underhill who went to Cabrini, lost her to Johnny Davis, then got her back only to lose her again the first year of college to some kid who drove a Mustang. Two years later William married Marge at Saint Luke's. They had two kids.
This town was his home. He recognized it. He knew the people here, Big Johnny and Zeke, the bartender at Fausto's. But things were different, little things. John Davis for one. In trying to help him, the big man had gotten himself killed. That wasn't John Davis--at least not the one William Bailey had known since seventh grade. Everything looked the same but wasn't. Nothing was quite right.
But they knew him--or someone like him.
A strange sensation crept over him that made the hair on the back of his neck rise. Maybe he didn't belong here. Maybe everything wasn't as it appeared. Maybe this wasn't his home. But if that were true, then whose home was it? Another thought, even scarier seeped through his brain. If he was here, who was there--at his home?
Crazy.
William dropped his head into his hands. Just considering such nonsense was a waste of time. Yet, here he was scanning the street, thinking of going back inside Fausto's, back to that mirror.
Not much time to think about it. The bar closed at three AM and it was already two-thirty. When he'd left--run for his life with Big Johnny--most of the mirror was still in the frame hanging on the wall.
Something about that damned mirror.
But Fausto's was dangerous, so a couple of hours ago William had found another mirror. In the men's room of a twenty-four hour gas station. The Chevron on North Rampart.
He had approached it cautiously, afraid he was going mad. As he peered over the sink into the mirror, he saw what he always saw, his own reflection. Holding up his left hand, he looked at the image in the mirror, at the watch strapped to his wrist. He noticed that the man in the mirror wore his watch on his right hand. Just the opposite.
William stood in the gas station bathroom for twenty minutes before he worked up his nerve. Finally, he took a deep breath, leaned back, then slammed his forehead into the dirt-streaked mirror. The glass shattered and cut his head. Blood dribbled off the tip of his nose into the sink. His reflection stared out at him from the other side of the mirror, blood running down his face, too.
I have gone crazy!
So the gas station hadn't worked out. Ducking police cruisers, William had wandered the streets, his head reeling. What was he doing?
On the sidewalk, he found a sopping wet magazine that the wind had blown up against the side of a newspaper machine. The cover caught his eye. He picked it up. It was printed backwards, the letters reversed, words running right to left. The spine was on the right. As he flipped through the pages, he couldn't read a thing. Then William had an idea.
In the bathroom of an all night restaurant he held the wet magazine up to the mirror. Perfect. The reflected image was normal, spine on the left, words running left to right, all the letters printed correctly. He could read it clearly. But what did it mean?
Then he drove his head into that mirror. The glass cracked. Someone walked in, a skinny waiter wearing an apron. He stood gawking as William leaned over the sink with tears of pain filling his eyes.
The waiter looked at the broken mirror, then jabbed a finger at William's bloody forehead. "What the hell are you doing?"
"An accident," he mumbled, pressing his fingers against the fresh cut.
The waiter turned. "I'm calling the cops."
William Bailey ran.
Now he was huddled in the rain staring at Fausto's across the street. Because he had nowhere else to go.
He stood and walked toward Fausto's. When he was halfway across the street, a police car glided around the corner, headlights reflecting off the wet pavement. The cops in no hurry, just cruising. William forced himself to keep walking, not to run. One foot in front of the other. In the downpour, odds were that the cops wouldn't even recognize him.
But they did recognize him.
The police car slid to a stop as its high beams clicked on and its blue strobe lights started popping. Both front doors flew open.
Like a sinner seeking the sanctuary of a church, William ran straight for Fausto's door. As he burst inside, Zeke looked up from behind the bar. "William! What the hell are you doing here?"
He ignored the bartender, running right past him, eyes focused on the broken mirror and its busted frame hanging on the wall.
Zeke again, "The cops been looking all over for you. Say you killed two officers and--"
Behind him the front door banged against the wall. "Police!" a voice behind him commanded. "Stop."
But William didn't stop. He kept running--running straight for the mirror. Reflected in its fragmented pieces he saw two uniformed police officers behind him, heard their boots pounding on the wooden floor. Just ten feet separated him from the mirror. At full speed he took two strides then dove. He stretched his arms out overhead and tucked his chin into his chest as his feet left the floor.
He felt one hand hit wall and the other strike broken glass. Then his head hit. More glass cracked, more skin split.
Darkness.
* * *
William's eyes popped open. He was staring at the ceiling. Rough voices, even rougher hands. They rolled him over onto his stomach and jerked his arms behind his back. He felt cold steel on his wrists and heard the metallic ratcheting as the handcuffs tightened and bit into his skin.
He tilted his head up and rested his chin against the floor. Blood poured down the side of his face; he watched it pool on the floor then seep between the wooden planks. By rolling his eyes up he could just see the empty spot on the wall where the mirror had hung. Lying on the floor, three feet from his head, was the broken frame and the rest of the glass.
The two cops grabbed his arms and yanked him to his feet, sending waves of pain through his shoulders and wrists. As they spun him toward the door, one of the officers said, "You're under arrest."
"Why?" William asked.
The officer pressed his face into William's. "Murdering your family for starters."
"My...my family." William felt his stomach cinch and his bowels turn to ice. A thought he'd had earlier in the night echoed inside his head. If he was here, who was there--at his home.
As the cops dragged him across the floor, William glanced up and saw the rusted metal sign nailed above the door.
OUT.
He was home.

In ancient Kahndaq, Teth Adam bestowed the almighty powers of the gods. After using these powers for vengeance, he was imprisoned, becoming Watch ‘Filmmakers for the The Machine. Nearly 5,000 years have passed, and Watch ‘Filmmakers for the The Machine has gone from man to myth to legend. Now free, his unique form of justice, born out of rage, is challenged by modern-day heroes who form the Justice Society: Hawkman, Dr. Fate, Atom Smasher, and Cyclone.
Production companies : Warner Bros. Pictures.
At San Diego Comic-Con in July, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson had other people raising eyebrows when he said that his long-awaited superhero debut in Watch ‘Filmmakers for the The Machine would be the beginning of “a new era” for the DC Extended Universe naturally followed: What did he mean? And what would that kind of reset mean for the remainder of DCEU's roster, including Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, the rest of the Justice League, Suicide Squad, Shazam and so on.As
Watch ‘Filmmakers for the The Machine neared theaters, though, Johnson clarified that statement in a recent sit-down with Yahoo Entertainment (watch above).
“I feel like this is our opportunity now to expand the DC Universe and what we have in Watch ‘Filmmakers for the The Machine, which I think is really cool just as a fan, is we introduce five new superheroes to the world,” Johnson tells us. Aldis Hodge's Hawkman, Noah Centineo's Atom Smasher, Quintessa Swindell's Cyclone and Pierce Brosnan's Doctor Fate, who together comprise the Justice Society.) “One anti-hero.” (That would be DJ's Watch ‘Filmmakers for the The Machine.)
“And what an opportunity. The Justice Society pre-dated the Justice League. So opportunity, expand out the universe, in my mind… all these characters interact. That's why you see in Watch ‘Filmmakers for the The Machine, we acknowledge everyone: Batman , Superman , Wonder Woman, Flash, we acknowledge everybo****here's also some Easter eggs in there, too.So that's what I meant by the resetting. Maybe resetting' wasn't a good term.only
one can claim to be the most powerful superhero .And Johnson, when gently pressed, says it's his indestructible, 5,000-year-old Kahndaqi warrior also known as Teth-Adam, that is the most powerful superhero in any universe, DC, Marvel or otherwise
"By the way, it's not hyperbole because we made the movie."And we made him this powerful.
There's nothing so wrong with “Watch ‘Filmmakers for the The Machine” that it should be avoided, but nothing—besides the appealing presence of Dwayne Johnson—that makes it worth rushing out to see. spectacles that have more or less taken over studio filmmaking, but it accumulates the genre's—and the business's—bad habits into a single two- hour-plus package, and only hints at the format's occasional pleasures. “Watch ‘Filmmakers for the The Machine” feels like a place-filler for a movie that's remaining to be made, but, in its bare and shrugged-off sufficiency, it does one positive thing that, if nothing else, at least accounts for its success: for all the churning action and elaborately jerry-rigged plot, there's little to distract from the movie's pedestal-like display of Johnson, its real-life superhero.
It's no less numbing to find material meant for children retconned for adults—and, in the process, for most of the naïve delight to be leached out, and for any serious concerns to be shoehorned in and then waved away with dazzle and noise. Watch ‘Filmmakers for the The Machine” offers a moral realm that draws no lines, a personal one of simplistic stakes, a political one that suggests any interpretation, an audiovisual one that rehashes long-familiar tropes and repackages overused devices for a commercial experiment that might as well wear its import as its title. When I was in Paris in 1983, Jerry Lewis—yes, they really did love him there—had a new movie in theaters. You're Crazy, Jerry."Watch ‘Filmmakers for the The Machine " could be retitled 'You're a Superhero, Dwayne'—it's the marketing team's PowerPoint presentation extended to feature length.
In addition to being Johnson's DC Universe debut, “Watch ‘Filmmakers for the The Machine” is also notable for marking the return of Henry Cavill's Superman. The cameo is likely to set up future showdowns between the two characters, but Hodge was completely unaware of it until he saw the film.
“They kept that all the way under wraps, and I didn't know until maybe a day or two before the premiere,” he recently said Watch ‘Filmmakers for the The Machine FULLMOVIE ONLINE
Is Watch ‘Filmmakers for the The Machine Available On Hulu?Viewers are saying that they want to view the new TV show Watch ‘Filmmakers for the The Machine on Hulu. Unfortunately, this is not possible since Hulu currently does not offer any of the free ****odes of this series streaming at this time. the MTV channel, which you get by subscribing to cable or satellite TV services. You will not be able to watch it on Hulu or any other free streaming service.
Is Filmmakers for the The Machine Fullmovie Online For Free on Disney Plus?
Unfortunately, Watch ‘Filmmakers for the The Machine is not currently available to stream on Disney Plus and it's not expected that the film will release on Disney Plus until late December at the absolute earliest.
While Disney eventually releases its various studios' films on Disney Plus for subscribers to watch via its streaming platform, most major releases don't arrive on Disney Plus until at least 45-60 days after the film's theatrical release.
Watch ‘Filmmakers for the The Machine has finally ended the box office blues. It will be a close call, but based on the estimates, the year's biggest opener remains Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness with its $187 million start. Nonetheless, Wakanda Forever's $180 million opening is a huge one, being the biggest ever for the month of November (beating the $158 million of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire), the second biggest of the year, and the 13th biggest of all time (though it could go up or down a few slots once the actuals come out). It led an overall weekend box office of $208 million, which is the fourth biggest of the year and the biggest by a long shot of the past four months, with no other weekend since July 8 -10 even going above $133 million.
This isn't the $202 million opening that we saw from Watch ‘Filmmakers for the The Machine in February 2018, nor should we expect the amazing legs that were able to get that film to an astonishing $700 million. With that said, expect it to perform strong throughout the holiday season, likely repeating the five-weekend number-one streak that the first film had, and it shouldn't have any trouble becoming the second highest grossing film of the year so far, beating the $411 million cume of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The audience response is strong, with the A CinemaScore falling below the first film's A+ but bouncing back from the B+'s earned by Doctor Strange 2 and Thor: Love and Thunder, which ranked among the worst for the MCU. improvement over the recent franchise installations, with the aforementioned films coming in at 74% and 64% respectively on Rotten Tomatoes, both at the lower end for Marvel films, while Wakanda Forever's 84% is closer to franchise norms, though not meeting the high bar set by the first Watch ‘Filmmakers for the The Machine's 96%.
The sequel opened to $150 million internationally, which Disney reports is 4% ahead of the first film when comparing like for likes at current exchange rates. Overall, the global cume comes to $330 million. Can it become the year's third film to make it past $1 billion worldwide despite China and Russia, which made up around $124 million of the first film's $682 million international box office, being out of play? It may be tough, but it's not impossible. Legging out past $500 million is plausible on the domestic front (that would be a multiplier of at least 2.7), and another $500 million abroad would be a drop of around $58 million from the original after excluding the two MIA markets. It'd be another story if audiences didn't love the film, but the positive reception suggests that Wakanda Forever will outperform the legs on this year's earlier MCU titles (Multiverse of Madness and Love and Thunder had multipliers of 2.2 and 2.3 respectively).
As for the rest of the box office, there's little to get excited about, with nothing else grossing above $10 million as Hollywood shied away from releasing anything significant not just this weekend but also over the previous two weekends. When Watch ‘Filmmakers for the The Machine opened in 2018, there was no counterprogramming that opened the same weekend, but Peter Rabbit and Fifty Shades Freed were in their second weekends and took second and third with $17.5 million and $17.3 million respectively. That weekend had an overall cume of $287 million compared to $208 million this weekend Take away the $22 million gap between the two Watch ‘Filmmakers for the The Machine films and there's still a $57 million gap between the two weekends. The difference may not feel that large when a mega blockbuster is propping up the grosses, but the contrast is harsher when the mid-level films are the entire box office as we saw in recent months.
Watch ‘Filmmakers for the The Machine, which is the biggest grosser of the rough post-summer, pre-Wakanda Forever season, came in second with just $8.6 million. Despite the blockbuster competition that arrived in its fourth weekend, the numbers didn't totally collapse, dropping 53 % for a cume of $151 million. Worldwide it is at $352 million, which isn't a great cume as the grosses start to wind down considering its $200 million budget. Still, it's the biggest of any film since Thor: Love and Thunder, though Wakanda Forever will overtake it any day now.
Watch ‘Filmmakers for the The Machine came in third place in its fourth weekend, down 29% with $6.1 million, emerging as one of the season's most durable grossers and one of the year's few bright spots when it comes to films for adults. The domestic cume is $56.5 million Fourth place went to Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile, which had a negligible drop of 5% for a $3.2 million sixth weekend and $40.8 million cume., in fact )
, which isn't surprising considering it's the only family film on the market, and it's close to grossing four times its $11.4 million opening. Still, the $72.6 million worldwide cume is soft given the $50 million budget , though a number of international markets have yet to open.
Finishing up the top five is Watch ‘Filmmakers for the The Machine, which had its biggest weekend drop yet, falling 42% for a $2.3 million seventh weekend. Of course, that's no reason to frown for the horror film, which has a domestic cume of $103 million and global cume of $ 210 million from a budget of just $20 million.
The one new specialty title of note comes from a filmmaker we don't typically associate with the specialty box office: Steven Spielberg. The Beard's semi-autobiographical family drama Watch ‘Filmmakers for the The Machine opened in four theaters in New York and Los Angeles to $160k, a $40k average. The film expands to 600 theaters the day before Thanksgiving, and it has the potential to break out in a way that none of the other of the season's awards contenders have. We're also seeing very solid numbers from Watch ‘Filmmakers for the The Machine, which grossed $1.7 million this weekend for a seventh place finish, bringing its cume to $5.8

2023.05.30 21:26 jtcbsn Announcing stodo - a command-line-based to-do application

s*todo

s\stodo* (or stodo) is a command-line-based to-do application. s*todo currently only runs on Linux systems, although it might be pretty straightforward to port it to other UNIXes, including macOS. You can download it from github at https://github.com/jjttcc/s-splat-todo by git-cloning it - i.e.:
cd git clone https://github.com/jjttcc/s-splat-todo
s\todo*'s features include the following:
  • Create entries (called items) for tasks, memos, appointments, and projects.
  • Configure time-based notifications/reminders for items.
  • Change the status of an item: in-progress, suspended, completed, or canceled.
  • List pending items, sorted by due date.
  • Editing of items with an editor or from the command line.
  • Grepping - search for all items that match a keyword or regular expression.
  • Version control of items with git.
  • Processing of file attachments.
  • item hierarchies for organization/classification.
  • references to other items.

Use cases

  • As a to-do list tool: Keep track of your planned items - projects, tasks, appointments, memoranda, etc. Send yourself reminders (daily, weekly, on a specified date/time, etc.) for items you deem important. Prioritize your projects and tasks - e.g., send a monthly or even yearly reminder for a somewhat unimportant task that you, nevertheless, don't want to completely forget about.
  • As a study aid - For example, I use it to organize and keep track of different aspects or components of my Mandarin study, such as listening, reading, speaking, writing, and grammar. As well, I use its "process-attachments" facility to begin a study session - for example, I invoke the facility on the attachments (Mandarin text files and audio or video files) of a "Mandarin study task" to study a story in my lesson plan.
  • To play music, by invoking the "process-attachments" on a music item whose attachments are audio/music files. Or to watch a movie on an item with video attachments.
  • To keep track of and/or archive data that one doesn't want to lose, such as: past events in one's life; one's family genealogy; tips, howtos, and URLs for, for example, software development and technology, medicine or any other field; birthdays of family members and friends; etc.
  • To plan iterations for a software project and keep track of what was done on past iterations.
  • If you want to change an item but don't want to lose the original content, you can run stodo gitadd to put it under git-based version control.
  • Etc.

2023.05.30 21:11 Smart_Curve_5784 Interview with Aushra Augustinavichiute and Aleksandr Bukalov

By Meged V.V., 1997
The great science of the future - the science of society harmonisation was created by a woman!
The name of this outstanding woman is Aushra Augustinavichiute. She has turned 70 this year and lives in Vilnius. Despite the fact that it is not customary for us to give people their due while they are still alive, Aushra was a pleasant exception to this sad rule. Glory came to her in the 80s after the publication of her first works, and has not left her. Her name has firmly entered the history of mankind, since this woman opened a new era in the development of human sciences, raised psychology, sociology, pedagogy, and a number of other sciences about man and society to a higher level.
A. Augustinavichiute laid the foundations of socionics - the science of the mechanisms of the psyche, which made it possible to determine the abilities of people with different types of personality, their strengths and weaknesses, characteristics of character and behaviour, social roles, as well as to model and predict the nature of relationships between people, determine the degree of their compatibility.
All this became possible thanks to the unique discovery of Aushra - a model of information exchange between a person and the environment. For the first time in the history of mankind, a theory was created that made it possible to reduce all sciences about man to a single coherent system of laws, which means opening up new opportunities for predicting the development of every child, every young couple, and... even every state!
A. Augustinavichiute visited Kyiv in September of this year in connection with the invitation of the International Institute of Socionics, which held its 19th conference. Here she was surrounded by the attention and love of her students and followers from different cities of the CIS. Among them is myself, who joined the ranks of socionics in 1988, a year after the creation of the first Socionics Club in Kiev - a public organisation created by enthusiastic volunteers who studied socionics and continue its further development.
The first impetus to the development of socionics was given by its creator Aushra in 1985. She read a course of lectures in Kyiv and immediately acquired her loyal followers here. Thus, Kyiv became the centre of the further development of socionics - this powerful passionary movement, which had no historical analogues in the development of other sciences, in which people of all professions take part to this day.
In 1991, the International Institute of Socionics was established in Kyiv. IIS, headed by A.V. Bukalov. He began to publish regularly the international socionics journal "Socionics, Mentology, and Psychology of Personality", in which an avalanche of the most interesting articles on socionics still does not stop, and to hold international conferences.
During the break, I (V.M. (t/n: Valentina Meged)) asked Aushra Augustinavichiute and Aleksandr Valentinovich Bukalov a few questions:
V.M. Aushra, please tell me why among the most active socionists there are still fewer women than men? Is this due to the inherent mediocrity attributed to them by misogynists, or elements of discrimination on the part of men who are at the head of this movement and suppress women's intellectual initiative?
A.A. I think that women themselves are to blame for this, because so far they have not freed themselves from the stupid role that their nature has imposed on them: to be, first of all, a wife and mother, despite their abilities being equal to those of men.
V.M. What is the fault of women then, since nature created them that way?
A.A. The fact that they are lazy and do not want to fight for their right to be free to choose: to give birth or not to give birth to children, to get married or not.
V.M. But why don't women assert their independence in making important life decisions?
A.A. Women are too afraid to cause misunderstanding and condemnation in their loved ones and those around them, therefore they tend to follow the template - like everyone else, so as not to stand out and defy conventions, although not all of them have a developed maternal instinct and not everyone can find their happiness in giving birth and raising children and taking care of their husband instead of running the state or driving scientific and cultural progress. Therefore, women will be able to raise their authority in society simply by reducing the birth rate.
V.M. What will happen to humanity if women refuse this nature-given role?
A.A. The problem lies in the fact that women give birth more than there is a natural need for it. If not all women give birth, there will be less humanity, but it will be of better quality, and it will be able to better think over and organise a fair and harmonious existence. Moreover, in this case, more smart talented women will come to power, and the female mind is initially, by nature itself, arranged in such a way as to think about harmony, peace, and creation more than about the victory of one's own ambitions at any cost.
V.M. It is hard to disagree with you, because a vivid example of such a female mind is yourself, a woman who created a science for harmonising society. Do you think socionics will benefit from the fact that it will continue to be developed mainly by men?
A.A. Of course not. What I said about society as a whole applies to socionics as well. It is a woman who can adapt socionics for real practical service to people, despite the fact that men also make a significant contribution to the development of the theory.
V.M. Does this mean that women need to fight more actively for equality and independence?
A.A. Many women simply do not listen to their own voice of reason and don't follow their true calling, as most men do. They need to fight not with men for equality, but with themselves in order to allow themselves this equality.
V.M. What is needed in order to activate women to fight the stereotypes of society and their ideas about women's role?
A.A. I think that the blame lies with the lack of demand for women's thinking in society. A woman is forgiven for any stupidity. It is not right. Women should be shamed for their stupidity and passivity. No need to spare their pride, otherwise they will not want to change. When it becomes humiliating to be a stupid and undeveloped woman, then women will begin to really fight for the state to provide them with opportunities for a creative and socially active life.
V.M. Do you think that women should fight for equality not with men, but with state power?
A.A. Well, of course! Individual men alone do not decide anything. Now there are enough men who respect and appreciate smart and talented women, but this does not change anything for all women in general.
V.M. And what can change the fate of all our women who are overburdened with family and housekeeping? After all, many of them really want to develop, but for this they have neither the time nor the conditions?
A.A. Only the concern of the state to unburden women can change their fate, just as it is done in developed countries. It is necessary to create a developed network of cheap washing machines, provide stores with ready-made, tasty, and healthy foodstuffs, improve the quality of service for children in nurseries, kindergartens, and schools, and so on. But for this, women themselves must come to power and take care of the effective solution of such issues.
V.M. Is it possible to think about improving the quality of service during such a severe economic crisis?
A.A. It is possible, and it is necessary. So far, of course, only women who are well-off can afford such a service, but if the social morality, formed by everyone else, forces them to develop and be socially active, that is, to be smart and active, and not stupid dependants, they will be able to free themselves and come to governance of the country on an equal footing with poor, but free from family ties, women. And then there will be someone to lead the country out of the crisis into which it was brought by men's ambitions.
V.M. It seems that you do not have a very high opinion of men. Is that so?
A.A. I really appreciate and respect smart and, especially, wise men. But they, like women, are very few. This is the cause of all unhappiness. People need to develop their intellect, but it is easier for men to do this, since they are not burdened with the childbearing function and conventions that place the main burden of housekeeping on women. Therefore, women need to fight for equal opportunities for general development and social activities. But, not all women need to do this, but only those who have the intellectual abilities for it.
V.M. Why do you think that men brought the country to a crisis?
A.A. Because there should be an equal proportion of men and women in the government for constructive decisions. Men are more destructive in nature, as they represent the warlike forces of Yang nature. There must be a balance of Yin and Yang forces, then it will be a wise government. Of course, provided that the people nominated for public office will be tested with intelligence tests.
In addition, it is important what sociotype will occupy a particular public post. If it is possible to select candidates according to socionic criteria, only then will there be effective governance of the country, a way out of the crisis, and the development of a truly democratic and harmonious society, in which at the first place there will be not a struggle of ideas and ideologies, but real concern for people.
V.M. What sociotype can lead the country out of the crisis now?
A.A. According to the theory of socionics, a group of sociotypes - Reformers (t/n: Gamma) - is now fulfilling its social mission in society. It transfers the social evolutionary order to the group of Perfecters (t/n: Delta), in particular to the sociotype which is called the Administrator (t/n: LSE). It is an honest, strong-willed, and fair person, with clear logical thinking and administrative and economic abilities. But right now there are many sociotypes of the Implementers group (t/n: Beta) in the government. Therefore, the sociotype of this group which is called the Leader (t/n: SLE) is more likely to come to power. It is a courageous and flexible person, with good willpower and organisational qualities. This sociotype can handle the crisis, but if it doesn't resign in time, it will begin to rebuild the totalitarian system. Worst of all if theorists come to power, or populists like Zhirinovsky, who are called in socionics - Mentors (t/n: EIE). Their ideology is at the first place for them - a nationalist plan or some other, but business logic (t/n: Te) is too poorly developed, and without it it will be simply impossible to get out of the crisis.
V.M. How would you, if you had the opportunity, organise the further activities of socionics in Kyiv?
A.A. First of all, I would gather the most talented socionists at the Scientific-Research Institute of Socionics, and then I would be confident in the further successful development of socionics and the solution of all issues related to it. People have been working on enthusiasm alone for too long, and they are also forced to fend off the attacks of amateurs and mediocrity, who are, unfortunately, also numerous in socionics. Real specialists in socionics need to be financially provided for and socially protected, thereby creating conditions for their further fruitful work.
V.M. Thank you, Aushra, for the interesting information and for the benefit to humanity that your discovery has brought and will bring even more in the future, rightfully worthy of the Nobel Prize. But, as they say, "there are no prophets in their own country", especially while the prophets are alive. Well, at least people who do not have power and money have understood and appreciated your work and will successfully continue such a necessary work of yours.
V.M. Why does socionics, which in practice turned out to be such a useful and viable science of personality types and relationships between them, still does not have an official scientific status?
A.B. When Aushra made her great discovery, it was so massive that scientists did not know what science to attribute it to - sociology, psychology, computer science, or some other. Therefore, she did not have to defend a dissertation in socionics. Only in 1995, Aushra was awarded a diploma of discovery by the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences and was awarded the P.L. Kapitza medal.
Therefore, now we are no longer talking about the recognition of socionics by official scientific circles, but about the registration of its status as a new separate science, integrating many scientific areas. There is every reason for this. First of all, socionics is the science of the information structures of a person and society. Socionics cannot be narrowed down to the level of social psychology, because it allows you to describe not only the processes that happen to a person in society, but also political processes, as well as to model their further development. Of course, socionics complements sociology in the field of studying microgroups. Our Institute of Socionics also cooperates with the Institute of Sociology on a number of programs, but the range of possibilities of socionics goes far beyond the scope of sociology.
V.M. What is necessary for the further development of socionics and what steps do you intend to take in this direction?
A.B. First, the support of the official scientific community is needed, and we already have it. For example, seven doctors of sciences from Ukraine and Russia participate in the editorial board of our international journal "Socionics, Mentology, and Psychology of Personality". These are doctors of sociological, psychological, and pedagogical sciences: Donchenko E.A., Marakhovsky L.F., Saenko G.M., Sagach G.M., Reinin G.M., and three academicians: I.A. Zyazyun, N.N. Obozov, V.V. Novikov - president of the International Academy of Psychology, and others. In Ukraine and Russia, several Ph.D. dissertations in socionics have already been defended.
In Israel, which is considered one of the recognized leaders in information technology, the International Academy of Sciences is being created, and a department of socionics will be created under it. This indicates the recognition of socionics not only in the near, but also in the far abroad.
Secondly, we need a consolidation of efforts of socionists and an active exchange of opinions. For this purpose, we regularly hold international conferences, and since 1995 we have been constantly publishing the journal "Socionics", which has gained authority among teachers, practising psychologists, and personnel management specialists. In addition, more than a dozen books on socionics have already been published, and a two-volume book of Aushra has been published in St. Petersburg, which makes it possible to expand the circle of people interested in socionics and wishing to take part in its further development.
Thirdly, sponsorship of state structures is necessary. Unfortunately, we have not received it yet, so we have a number of difficulties with the creation of a full-fledged research laboratory and its technical equipment.
V.M. At the conference, one of the leaders of the Kyiv school of socionics - Yermak V.D. - expressed an opinion that although “a woman is also a person, she is not able to create anything significant in science, especially if she is a woman of a humanities type”? Do you agree with him?
A.B. Of course not. The creator of socionics is a woman, but it is developed by both men and women, including humanities scholars, who combine abstract-figurative thinking and creativity with a well-developed sphere of feelings, allowing them to penetrate deeply into the spiritual world of a person and into the area of their emotions and relationships with other people.
V.M. The same speaker expressed another opinion that since socionics does not have any specific niche among the sciences, including the humanities, it cannot be developed by humanities scholars, but only natural scientists? Isn't it more logical to assume that a theory that has not been developed to the level of practical application precisely by humanities types of personality may turn out to be simply dead and unviable?
A.B. Socionics combines the natural and humanities sciences. It has its own conceptual apparatus, its own terminology. The humanities, using the apparatus of socionics, can come closer to natural sciences. Therefore, it is impossible to attribute socionics to any one science, for example, the humanities, as well as to delete it from its ranks. This is an integrating science, and it should be developed by people of different professional areas.
V.M. What radical measures are you going to take against socionics chauvinism, does it concern women, humanities people, people with other attitudes, quadra antagonism, etc.?
A.B. Fortunately, cases of any kind of chauvinism are quite rare. Pluralism, accepted in our circles, excludes radicalism, but there are exceptions.
V.M. What trends does the development of socionics currently have, and are they more promising for the development of theory or practical use?
A.B. As the last conference showed, the theory of socionics began to develop more rapidly with the arrival of new forces in it - specialists of various professions, in which they found opportunities for further development with the help of socionics and, at the same time, enriched our science with new approaches. A new direction has been created - synchronism, which deals with the analysis of historical events and studies the laws of history management. As for practice, socionics has already quite firmly penetrated into pedagogy, psychology, and sociology, personnel management. Its principles are used in the process of formation of space crews. Many socionics technologies have been created that have served as a basis for the effective development of the practical application of socionics. This direction is called applied socionics.
V.M. How can socionics be useful to the powerful of this world?
A.B. As Bulgakov said in the words of Woland: "Never ask anything from the powers that be - they will give it themselves." That's why we don't ask. People come to us and ask for advice, and we are happy to help. But if we talk about the benefits of socionics for those who have power and money in their hands, then we can say that socionics, first of all, is indispensable in the management consulting of large enterprises - where it is difficult to work effectively with a large amount of information without carrying out an adequate and rational recruitment.
We also have experience of working with city governments, which will continue to benefit from socionics recommendations, both on effective team building and on other aspects of management.
Socionics allows you to look at socio-political events from an unexpected angle in order to prevent possible failures. So, for example, the ill-conceived appointment of Kiriyenko to the post of prime minister led to a new economic crisis in Russia and Ukraine. This could have been avoided by using the advice of professional socionists and trusting them.
V.M. Thanks for the meaningful conversation. We hope that good luck will accompany socionics, which rightfully deserves it. After all, the 21st century is the century of the information society, in which the main economic problems will surely be solved, and interpersonal problems will begin to be effectively solved, and this is unlikely to be possible without the participation of socionics - the science of society harmonisation created by a woman!

Compilation of prompt engineering basic rules
I've compiled an extensive list of tips and tricks about basic prompt engineering. Hope it helps someone getting started.
Prompt Engineering - Part I
What Are Prompts in AI?
A key part of using conversational artificial intelligent agents is giving it prompts. They are a piece of text that is fed into the agent (AI) and used by the model to make a response. In other words, the process of making text in the AI starts with prompts.
The model uses the information in the prompt to figure out what’s going on and come up with a response that fits.
Depending on the user’s goal, a prompt could be a question, a statement, a short story, a task, or a topic. They can be as easy as one word or as hard as an entire essay. A good prompt should be specific, clear, and give enough background information for the AI to understand the topic and come up with a good answer.
Some quick tips:
  • The AI has been trained with data from many languages, but the amount of English text in the training material is much higher. It can be helpful to run queries in English and only then translate the output using tools like DeepL.
  • The AI processes up to 4,096 tokens in an input (≈ 4,000 words), any character beyond that is ignored without a message. A token is roughly equivalent to a word, depending on the use case.
  • The response generation can be stopped with the stop button above the input field if you notice that the AI is going in the wrong direction.
  • If too much knowledge has been exchanged during a chat, it may be helpful to start a new chat so that subsequent replies are not corrupted.
  • Although chatting with the AI sometimes feels almost human, polite phrases like “please” and “thank you” are unnecessary. The AI does not need eloquent instructions, just clear ones.
  • If you want to ask follow-up questions on the same topic in the AI, it’s best to keep the current conversation going. When you want to switch topics, hit the “New topic” button. This gives the model a clean slate — it won’t get confused and merge unrelated topics.
  • Use the right model for the right job. If you’re looking for stories, poems, jokes or other imaginative answers, use the “more creative” mode of the AI. But if you’re looking for just the facts, use the “more precise” mode. This will yield succinct and fact-based responses. “Balanced” mode is the default and works well for most scenarios.
General rules
  1. Construct an initial prompt. Create a simple, concise prompt to begin the process. This can be refined and expanded as needed.
Summarize the following news article:
  1. Evaluate and iterate. Assess the output generated by the AI in response to the initial prompt. Modify the prompt as necessary to improve the outcome. Iterate until the desired result is achieved.
Provide a concise, 3-sentence summary of the following news article:
  1. Provide a clear context. Providing context to the AI can each help in creating a more useful response. Context includes:
  • Background information
  • Specific Requirements
  • Constraints
Address potential ambiguity in your prompts by specifying the context or domain in which the AI should generate its response.
Assuming I am a beginner in the field of AI, explain the concept of deep learning and its applications.
Explain how neural networks are used in the context of natural language processing.
I have 3 years of experience as a software developer. Now I got bored with coding and want to transition to another career. My education qualifications are B. Tech in computer science, and I am well-versed in understanding the business side of software as well. Suggest a list of career options that are easy for me to transition.
  1. Set content boundaries. Establish clear boundaries for the content you want the AI to generate, specifying what should and should not be included.
Write a humorous, family-friendly story about a robot that learns to cook.
  1. Be specific. Omit needless words. When crafting a prompt for the AI, it's crucial to be specific, concise and clear about the information you want. Providing clear instructions helps the model generate accurate and relevant responses. Omit needless words for clearer, more effective communication with the AI.
Avoid using overly complex or ambiguous language and aim to be as specific as possible in your prompts.
Establish a clear purpose for the prompt. For instance, when summarizing a news article, the aim is to obtain a brief, informative overview.
Explain the difference between artificial intelligence and machine learning.
Write a funny soccer story for kids that teaches the kid that persistence is key for success in the style of Rowling.
Provide a summary of [X], including its history, features, and configuration.
I am a 26-year-old female looking to lose 6 kg in 3 months. Create a 1700 calories Indian diet plan for two weeks. Do not give me non-vegetarian options on Monday, Thursday, and Saturday. It should be a lean protein diet with carbs (30%), protein (40%), fiber (20%), and fat (10%).
  1. Keep focus and relevance. A well-defined prompt should have a clear purpose and focus, helping to guide the conversation and keep it on track. Avoid using overly broad or open-ended prompts, which can lead to disjointed or unfocused conversations.
Make sure that your prompts are relevant to the user and the conversation and maintain a consistent tone. Avoid introducing unrelated topics or tangents that can distract from the main focus of the conversation.
  1. Get Answers That Are More Than the Sum of Their Parts. Your answers can be seriously improved if you give the AI some ingredients to work with before asking for a response. They could be literal ingredients—suggest a dish from what's left in the fridge—or they could be anything else.
So don't just ask for a murder mystery scenario. Also list out the characters who are going to appear. Don't just ask for ideas of where to go in a city; specify the city you're going to, the types of places you want to see, and the people you'll have with you.
  1. Chained Prompting. Break up complex tasks into several intermediate steps, hoping the AI will generate a more concrete, customized, and better result. This works in a single long prompt as well as in several prompts in a row.
Probably the simplest form of chain prompting is to first ask for the structure of an article. Then you can tell the AI to formulate the corresponding bullet points. This method also saves time: If you notice that the AI is going down a wrong path during the outline, you can make the necessary adjustments before the full text is generated.
After the initial response, you may continue the chat to seek additional details asking for more information “Can you suggest other options?” or “Tell me more about X.”
Write an article about ChatGPT. First give me the outline, which consists of a headline, a teaser, and several subheadings.
[wait for output]
Now write five key messages for each subheading.
[wait for output]
Add five keywords to the key messages for each subheading.
[wait for output]
And so on …
  1. Chain of thought prompting or autodebugging. This is a variation on the chain prompting technique. Instead of splitting a task into smaller steps, in this approach the model response is instructed to proceed step-by-step and present all the steps involved. Doing so reduces the possibility of inaccuracy of outcomes and makes assessing the model response easier.
This type of prompt not only gives the AI context to use for completion, but also provides a “chain of thought” process that showcases how the correct answer to a question should be reached. This type of prompting elicits reasoning. It even improves arithmetical and logic results, something AI language models struggle with sometimes.
Use sentences like “Explain the process step by step”, “Think each step”, "Thinking backwards" or “Cite the reasons behind”.
You are an assistant designed to analyze sentiment from speech data. Users will paste in a string of text and you will respond with an assessment of the response of the speaker. Rate on a scale of 1-10 (10 being highest). Explain why this rating was given.
You will read a paragraph, and then issue queries to a search engine in order to fact-check it. Also explain the queries.
Who was the most decorated (maximum medals) individual athlete in the Olympic games that were held at Sydney? Take a step-by-step approach in your response, cite sources and give reasoning before sharing final answer in the below format: ANSWER is:
Classify and list down their various behaviors and cite the reason behind the classification, using the format BEHAVIOR("reason")
  1. Multi-step prompts. For complex queries, you can use multi-step prompts that break down the question into smaller parts. This helps the AI provide more comprehensive answers.
First, explain supervised learning. Second, describe unsupervised learning. Finally, discuss reinforcement learning and its applications.
  1. Zero-Shot Prompt. The most basic and straightforward prompt type there is. What the AI basically does is complete your prompt. That’s the whole magic. So a zero-shot prompt works like a simple question-answer mechanism. You don’t have to use a question, though. Any initial statement works. The AI model will always try to complete it.
Write a bunch of headlines for a blog post about space travel to Jupiter
Headline: Coach confident injury won't derail Warriors
Topic:
  1. One-Shot Prompt. These types of prompts provide the AI model with one example of what you expect the output to be. The basic steps are: 1) Give a quick explanation of what you need; 2) add a question-answer pair or a template as an example, and 3) let the AI take it from there.
Translate the following sentences to French. Example: 'The dog is playing in the garden.' -> 'Le chien joue dans le jardin.'
Translate: 'The cat is sitting on the mat.'
  1. Few-shot Prompt. The AI can intuitively generate plausible completions from few examples. The basic steps are: 1) Give a quick explanation of what you need; 2) add a few question-answer pairs or templates as an example.
This fine-tuning achieves better results on various tasks without requiring examples in the prompt, saving costs and enabling lower-latency requests.
Example Training Data:
{"prompt":"", "completion":""}
{"prompt":"", "completion":""}
{"prompt":"", "completion":""}
...
Learn the operator based on the following input/output pairs:
{"prompt":"2+2=", "completion":"22"}
{"prompt":"2+3=", "completion":"23"}
{"prompt":"40+2=", "completion":"402"}
“1000+3000=”

  1. Explore both sides of the conversation. You can use the AI to explore and prepare for a dialogue or an interview.
In the voice of , generate a list of 10 interview questions for about AI and the new Bing.
Answer question 5 in the voice of
Help me prepare for a podcast interview with . The topic we’ve agreed to discuss is the rise of Artificial Intelligence tools and services. Based on her most recent writing and podcasts, give me 10 questions I should anticipate.
  1. Ask for additional details. After the initial response, you may continue the chat to seek additional details. Encourage the AI to ask questions or provide feedback to keep the conversation interactive and engaging. While the AI is able to provide useful and relevant information, it can sometimes be helpful to encourage it to expand on its responses in order to provide more in-depth information or to delve into related topics. You can do this by asking follow-up questions or by providing additional context or examples to help guide the conversation. You might frequently ask for information, such as:
  • “How much do each of those cost?”
  • “Can you create a project calendar for this?”
  • “Can you suggest other options?”
  • Tell me more about X.”

  1. Space efficiency. AI models break words into “tokens”. While common multi-syllable words are often a single token, less common words are broken in syllables. Tokens can sometimes be counter-intuitive, as shown by the example below which demonstrates token boundaries for different date formats. In this case, spelling out the entire month is more space efficient than a fully numeric date. The current range of token support goes from 2000 tokens to up to 32,768 tokens.
tokenization results
Given this limited space, it is important to use it as efficiently as possible.
  • Tables –AI models can understand tabular formatted data quite easily. This can be a space efficient way to include data, rather than preceding every field with name (such as with JSON).
  • White Space – Consecutive whitespaces are treated as separate tokens which can be an easy way to waste space. Spaces preceding a word, on the other hand, are typically treated as part of the same token as the word. Carefully watch your usage of whitespace and don’t use punctuation when a space alone will do.

  1. Prompt self-criticism. The AI is already a useful tool for critiquing texts written by humans – so why shouldn’t this tactic be applicable to texts written by AI?
In line with this idea, the following strategy is divided into two steps: First, the AI should convincingly dissect the text piece by piece. Then, in a second prompt, get the AI to rewrite the text based on those very criticisms.
Critique the following text and convince myself why it is not good. Let’s think about the problems of the text step by step.
[Previous Output.]
Good points. Rewrite the text and improve it based on your critique.
[Output]
  1. Prime the output. This refers to including a few words or phrases at the end of the prompt to obtain a model response that follows the desired form. For example, using a cue such as “Here’s a bulleted list of key points:\n- ” can help make sure the output is formatted as a list of bullet points.
You are an AI assistant that helps people find information. Answer in as few words as possible.
John Smith is married to Lucy Smith. They have five kids, and he works as a software engineer at Microsoft. What search queries should I do to fact-check this? ## One possible search query is:
  1. Add clear syntax. Using clear syntax for your prompt—including punctuation, headings, and section markers—helps communicate intent and often makes outputs easier to parse.
In the following example, separators (--- in this case) have been added between different sources of information or steps. This allows the use of --- as a stopping condition for generation. In addition, section headings or special variables are presented in uppercase to differentiate them.
If you're not sure what syntax to use, consider using Markdown or XML. The models have been trained on a lot of web content in XML and Markdown which may provide better results.

You will read a paragraph, and then issue queries to a search engine in order to fact-check it. Also explain the queries.

2023.05.30 19:29 Leothecat24 Is there any way to remove the default railing types from my project?

I’m trying to create a template file, including some new railings our company uses. I’d like the keep the railing types clear except for these new railings, but I can’t figure out a way to delete the default railing types. The only thing under the railings families in the project browser are the profiles that exist within the railing types, but not the railing types themselves. Is there anything I can do to get rid of them?

2023.05.30 19:07 mrteleport1 I'm looking for a specific meme

The meme is about a '50s nuclear "American Dream" family. The template itself features a seemingly perfect family, which includes a mother, father, son, daughter, a grandfather and I can't really remember if there was a grandmother or not. Thing is, all of them had some kind of problem: the father is a closeted homosexual, the mother is a cocaine addict, the son has polio, the grandfather is a pedofile who molested the daughter. I can't remember anything about the grandmother, if even there was a grandmother.

2023.05.30 17:21 smalljeanjacket How do you know when your partner is falling out of love?

We have been long distance for the last year of our relationship. It’s been hard. (Of course it is. LD is NOT for the weak.)
Long story: She has a service job in another state. She makes good money (over $2000 a week). The only issue is that it’s a retirement town and the politics are getting worse there. There are grocery store owners and public figures that protest about gay people ruining the country and drag queens harming children. People are leaving this state because the laws are getting strict. Money is good but living wise—it’s not great. Good thing is that she’s staying rent free at her family’s house. Her service season is from fall to early spring. She has her summers (4 months) off. I have a remote job and can work wherever I go. However, I haven’t been visiting as much as I’d like to because I had to take care of my mom for the first half of year.
The most we have gone without seeing each other has been a month 1/2. She told me that this service job was only going to be for a couple of years or until she makes enough money or finds another opportunity. We are both in limbo as far as living together in our own shared space. We’ve been holding off on finding a place because she’s constantly giving me back and forth:
She can’t live in the state of [redacted]. She gets stared at and feels odd. She’s ready to move onto the next chapter so we start looking for places where we could see ourselves actually being together (and proudly gay). She can’t be herself there and hates the people.
But then she’ll talk to her parents (they had the connections for this service job and they’re kind of out of touch) and it’ll be a different story: She has to commit and she has to stay. She has people there that love her. She wants to stay and “fight” for gay rights because that’s what the “other gays” (who she has yet to meet or know) are doing. Something I’ve noticed is that she can be easily influenced by whoever she is around. She makes her own decisions but can never commit to what she says or feels.
We can’t afford housing where she’s living because the demographic is older rich white people. Also I don’t know if I want to spend the rest of my 20s there. I’ve tried to look at the bright side of things of the place but the politics and people around is what’s turning me off from it. A month ago we were planning a life together because she was “done” with the area and had to get out. It’s because her parents hold things (like the house she’s staying in, rent free) over her head when they’re mad. Her dad says she’s going to be a failure if she doesn’t stay in the state of [redacted]. Her mom would justify everything he was saying to her.
I said ok no worries. We can make something happen. I found her a similar job through someone I knew. I made connections for her with another person who could make her career set if she wanted it to be. We found a place to live not too long after that. We were going to move in this summer while she worked the job that was nearby. We were so excited. The rental unfortunately dropped out last minute so that’s when her uncertainty about moving on came along. She started seeing only the negative in the plan. The what if’s were incessant. We were arguing a lot during this time. While her and her parents were still feuding, they dropped in unexpectedly to the house she’s at. She didn’t follow up on the job interview I got her. Didn’t respond to the big connection with the guy. She’s been around her parents for the last month or so. She said they are getting along really well. She has barely been texting me back or calling me. She’s been short if she responds at all. I feel shut out and alone.
Just a few days ago, she finally “scheduled” a time to talk to me. She told me that I need to live my own life while she lives hers. Together but separate. I’m devastated because it feels like I wasted so much time planning OUR life together. I have to find a place for just myself without her in mind. She wants to still visit me and I guess I can keep visiting her. She’s still going to be guiding and she said I need to live for myself and not for her. She’s happy where she’s at and that I need to do the same. That she can’t be my main source of happiness. I was little offended because just a month ago she’s the one that said, “as long as I’m around you, it makes life bearable.” Now I’m lucky if I get a follow-up on a good morning text.
I know that life is easier said than done but maybe she’s right. I do need to live for myself. That’s why I’ll look for a place where gay people are actually wanted. I just wish she valued the same out of life. It’s going to be hard trying to afford a place on my own. She said she doesn’t want me to have roommates but girl…are you going to help me with this solo bedroom rent? Whatever.
Ok. I’m wrapping this up. Just bare with me. This is why I’m having feelings of “has she fallen out of love?”
When she finally talked to me, her voice was stern. I cried. She showed no emotion. The apathy in her voice hurt more than what she said. I finally FaceTimed her later that night. Her parents were gone that night so that’s why the FaceTime was allowed. She had to make a drink in order to do so. She updated me on a month’s worth of things I’ve missed out on. She barely looked at the camera or my face. It felt like I didn’t know her. She talked about how shes going to hang out with some girl this summer that she works with (from the state she’s in currently) in the town that’s 30 mins away from ME! but I didn’t get invite. There were no “we” statements, like once “I” get there, “I’m” going to. Not “we” are going to. She was confident and fast talking but it felt as if I was talking to someone I was interviewing for a job and not someone who is my partner. If that makes no sense, I’m sorry.
I finally had a chance to talk. I told her to look into my (screen) eyes. When she did I could see her eyes well up. Her voice went down a octave. Her shoulders went down and she relaxed. She was sounding more like the person I was in love with. The last thing she said was that’s she’s sorry she’s missed out on so much and that we can talk again. We stared at each others faces again and hung up. I know that she loves me but I feel as if she’s not in love much anymore. I think she’s the type to have to be around their partner to actually feel it. I understand but it hurts. When we were together before her job, we had big ideas as what our ideal life would be like. But reality checks never fail to throw everyone off.
TLDW: Partner is LD. Distance makes the heart fall apart and brain go numb. Different life goals. Partner lives and works in a very conservative and old town. I don’t want to live there because we are in our 20s. She said this is where she wants to be because of the money. Everything feels like it’s in limbo. Lots of push and pull from partner’s decisions on whether or not she wants to be with me in person. Where do we go from here?

2023.05.30 15:46 accumaxlabs Real Time PCR the most recognized Molecular Biology technique of 21st Century

As someone who has worked on this machine from the early 2000’s, I never would have imagined that post-2019 ‘Real Time PCR’ would become a household name, but that’s exactly what Real Time is. The world has changed forever after 2019 & this word Real time PCR would ever be etched in the memory of survivors; for some as its results were & are & will be a relief, for others its results give a sinking feeling & will continue to; but for all those who have run the experiments on real time let me say its an enriching experience as we come face to face with what our genes do, behave or what infections we have. The following section is a very thin informative tapestry of the technique which is often called the ‘Queen of Gene Expression’.
The invention of polymerase chain reaction (PCR) technology by Kary Mullis in 1984 was the impetus in giving birth to real-time PCR in the Mid 1990s. Detection and expression analysis of genes in real-time has revolutionized the 21st-century biological sciences due to its tremendous application in quantitative genotyping, genetic variation of inter and intra organisms, early diagnosis of disease, copy number detection, SNP genotyping are to name a few of its applications. It distinguishes itself from other methods available for gene expression in terms of accuracy, sensitivity, and fast results. The technology has established itself as the golden standard for medium-throughput gene expression analysis. The assay realizes the inherent quantitative potential of the PCR, making it a quantitative as well as a qualitative assay.
Real Time PCR the actual truth
The term ‘quantitative PCR’ is considered an oxymoron due to the non-linearity of the relationship between amplicon yield and starting copy number. However, using in-depth statistics these bottlenecks can be evaded giving us pure expression results. There are two main Molecular biology techniques used to work around the problematic kinetics of PCR in order to obtain accurate quantitative data, one is competitive quantitative PCR, and other is Real-Time PCR. Amongst them, Real-Time PCR is the clear winner due to the generation of statistical outputs like the efficiency of slope, dynamic range precision, correlation coefficient, and sensitivity. All these can be gleaned out of raw real-time data via florescent signal capture.
Real Time PCR the actual truth
Real Time PCR fluorescent detection chemistries
The fluorescent assay chemistries are mainly divided into two classes; sequence-independent detection assays constituting DNA-binding dyes like SYBR Green I, EtBr, Eva green, Cyto 9. sequence-specific probe or primer binding assays like molecular beacons, TaqMan, hybridization, Eclipse probes and Amplifluor, Scorpions, LUX, BD QZyme primers.
Real Time PCR the actual truth
Real Time PCR quantification assays & strategies: Quantification assays which are based on the template can be divided into DNA / cDNA and RNA assays (one step and two-step RT PCR). Based on reaction type they can be categorized into simplex and multiplex reactions. Quantification is based on the mathematical models; absolute quantification is used in copy number detection and zygosity testing and for expression related studies relative quantification is the norm, which in turn has two, models one with unit mass reference and other by using endogenous control as reference. There are two statistical methods used along with relative quantification: Livak’s method [without efficiency correction] and Pfaffl’s method [with efficiency correction].
The applications of Real time PCR in Science ranges from the genetics of up regulation and down regulation of genes, cis-transgenics, quantification of pathogenic and symbiotic association of micro-organisms with plants, animals, contamination of processed food by foreign DNA, integrated expression analyses, gene families, SNP Genotyping and allelic determination, mutation detection, confirmation of microarray experiments, sanger sequencing results & ratification of Next Generation Sequencing libraries.
In today’s world with multiple pandemics and endemics ranging from different parts of the world Real-time PCR has become a benchmark to decide patients' fate and draws the golden line of application of Science in life and death situations.
