2023.06.07 21:35 MeadowGhostTV 30M/ - Seeking for more awesome friends :)

Hi there, I am in search for new friends! I will try to tell you a bit about myself to see if we've got anything in common. I have met awesome people and great friends on here before, so figured I'd try my luck again!
So my name is Travis, I'm a dude, 30 and living in Oregon currently. I don't care where you are from.
So, anyway with that out of the way, some of my interests include playing video games (Mostly PC, and Xbox SOMETIMES.) But mainly PC. I love and will send you lots of dank memes so be ready for that. I have yet to find someone that can out-meme me. For games right now I just usually play single player games, and Rocket League at the moment. If you have steam tho, I'm sure we'll find something in common. I've got a pretty big library. After work I usually just chill out with the family and relax, and trying to push myself to go to the gym more, and get outside more since it's summer.
For my passions, I love to make Electronic music. I'd love to share some of my music if you are interested. I am also learning music theory as I got a new piano, but it is le hard to do. So I'm trying haha.
Anyway, I'd say that sums it up for the most part. If you think we'd click, feel free to msg me, and we'll see if we can move it off to other platforms. I usually like to talk on Reddit a bit before giving out personal stuff.
Thank you for reading and I hope ya'll have a great Wed.

2023.06.07 21:17 DAR3ALEST Philosophical question about latency

So, everybody knows that humans don't really perceive latency under 5 ms, or like 3 ms. Now, my question is, do other beings notice it? Like, I don't know, aliens? Let's say you're new and you're mixing your music and you move your vocals to the left to sync them to the beat and they are perfect but they are like 0.01ms late. Or like 0.5ms. Is there some being that could perceive that and would it be a problem? What do you think?

2023.06.07 21:10 AlaFakBahr Hue and Google home integration - "music sync' keeps getting removed from 'room' or 'home'

Hue and Google home integration -
Does anyone else have this happened to them, or might know the reason for this happening?
It's not a big deal, but I'm curious as to why this keeps happening. Physical devices like bulbs and strips never gets unassigned, while 'music sync' ( and occasionally 'philips hue' )do.
I typically assign music sync to same room as the sync box is (Studio), while 'philips hue' i believe I've reassigned to 'living room' as thats where the philips hue bridge is located.
How have you assigned them, or wouls find it logically to do so? Or perhaps assignment not that relevant after all?
All input is appreciated.

Watch THIS Wednesday Presented by CordCutting.com June 7, 2023
Welcome to our weekly Watch THIS Wednesday post, presented by CordCutting.com! This week's pick is one I've been looking forward to for some time, and is a PERFECT fit for my Fellowjackets! Fun fact: both S2 shows were filmed in Vancouver! It's time for Cruel Summer...
As a refresher, the criteria for including a show in the post means my recommendation will have at least ONE of these qualities to help keep it more Yellowjackets-verse focused:
  • Horror, thrillers, or dark subject matter
  • Teen dramas with dark undertones
  • Psychological thrillers
  • Dramas with a mystery
  • Potentially supernatural themes
  • Survival stories with dark vibes and characters overcoming trauma
  • True crime / serial killers / murder-y shows
If you have any recommendations, please drop them in the comments, and be sure to catch up on all of my recent show recommendations as you're looking for more shows between seasons of Yellowjackets.

Weekly Recommendation

Cruel Summer returns to Freeform on Mondays (streaming to Hulu the next day), with the first two episodes of the anthology series' sophomore season available now. I had a chance to watch both of them and am already hungry for more! Freeform describes the second season as:
Set in an idyllic waterfront town in the Pacific Northwest, the next chapter of "Cruel Summer" follows the rise and fall of an intense teenage friendship. Approaching the story from three different timelines surrounding Y2K, the season twists and turns as it tracks the early friendship between Megan, Isabella and Megan's best friend Luke, the love triangle that blossomed, and the mystery that would impact all of their lives going forward.
Right off the bat, I noticed a lot of similarities between the two seasons. Teenage friendships, multiple timelines, nostalgia, and the "apple pie to goth transition" were all prevalent carryover themes from one season to the next, along with an overall dark story/mystery, encompassed by teen drama. As I noted in my Twitter thread yesterday, I'm impressed with how the show navigates the three timelines, all hovering around Y2k. The camera coloring makes is easier for the viewer to differentiate between the timelines, going from true color to a blue and then to a green hue as it switches between them. As with Yellowjackets, the music in Cruel Summer is top-notch, featuring radio hits and more from that time period. I was happy to hear some Barenaked Ladies (among many other popular artists at that time), fun fact I was obsessed with them in my late teens/early 20s! Can't say enough about the nostalgia feels when some of these songs play!
The cast is all new this season, and features some familiar faces. Most notably is Lexi Underwood from Little Fires Everywhere (love her!), who plays one of the leads, Isabella LaRue. If we're playing Seven Degrees of Yellowjackets, you'll also note Griffin Gluck of Locke & Key connects us to Kevin Alves (Travis), who also appeared on that show. Here's an article from Screen Rant showcasing where you may have seen some of the other cast members.
Did you watch Cruel Summer Season 1? If not, give it a try! That said, you don't HAVE to watch the first season first given it's an anthology; you could do any order or even watch both seasons simultaneously. I'm curious to hear initial reactions on Season 2 as well, so be sure to drop any and all thoughts in the comments. Enjoy the watch!

2023.06.07 20:53 firstandfive Replicate Wire Sync hard lead preset from Fantom X/G series

I'm getting back into making music after a decade away from it and as part of that, I am in the process of trying to modernize and digitize some of my setup including potentially ditching my old Fantom. Hoping to find a way to make a replacement for Fantom's "Wire Sync" hard lead sound. I have Arturia Pigments and soon the synths available in Kontakt, but even knowing more generally what types of settings or waveforms I should be looking for to achieve this sound will be tremendously helpful.
In my previous stretch making music, I mostly stuck to presets or adding effects via my DAW, but am hoping to get more into the weeds of synthesis and sound design this time around. I assume the word "Sync" is a big clue because there are other presets on the fantom with a similar sound signature that also contain that word, but I'm not sure whether that's telling me more about the starting point or the processing. A demo of the patch can be found under User at this link, it's 178. Wire Sync: https://synthmania.com/2014/08/31/roland-fantom-x

2023.06.07 20:41 MeeuwComposer Dragon - A Rhythmic Analysis

Hey!

I'm a composer and musician who's become a HUGE fan of the Gizz over the past three years, and it's SUCH a good time to be a fan with all of the music they produce, as well as being able to see them SLAY live at concerts!
My main interest in music lies in the rhythmic side, and I love how much they play with odd time signatures and polyrhythms in different ways! I've taken a lot of inspiration from them in my own songs for my band for sure. I'd be happy to share if there's interest!
Since rhythm is my speciality, I thought it'd be nice to break down some of them for other rhythm fanatics out there! I don't know exactly how these wizards write their songs, if it's very methodically composed or if they go by ear and bring different riffs to groove to, or if they have a more mathematical approach, but this is how I subjectively perceive it.

Dragon

A - Starting of strong with an 11/8 time signature, subdivided in 2+2+2+2+3. You can think of it as: Short, short, short, short, long, or: One, two, three, four, one-two-three. If it's difficult, go to the last part at 9:25, where the vocals use this rhythm!
B - With the vocals being introduced, they transition into 9/8 compound time signature, meaning the beat is felt in 3+3+3.
C - A short interlude in 7/8 time in 3+4, with the drums keeping an even polyrhythmic pattern in 4/8 which ties over the bar line, which means it resolves every other completion of the riff. The 7/8 is kept through the next section, however here it's subdivided 4+3 instead, the drums still playing the polyrhythmic 4/8.
D - 2:39 introduces another rhythm in 11/8, divided into 3+3+3+2, and then a short instrumental part in 12/8 compound, 3+3+3+3. When the vocals enter, magic happens by singing the 11/8 rhythm with the bass OVER the 12/8 guitar and drum pattern. When he starts singing "Dragon", it becomes a polymetric cycle where the emphasis of the words changes depending on where in the 11/8 cycle it's sung. Incredible.
E - As the instrumentals strip down, only the vocals and the drums remain. The vocals continue as before, but now now the drums are playing a 10/8 beat in 3+3+4 instead, which transitions into the next section.
F - The guitar introduces the new riff which can be debated. 3+3+3+5 brings us to a 14/8 time signature. However I feel it like shifting time signatures between 6/8 (3+3) and 8/8 (4+4).
G - Here I feel it as 2+4+2+5, a 13/8 bar, with the vocals singing 2+2+2+2+2+3. It could instead be heard as 2+4+2+4 with an extra beat at the end. When the guitar riff starts, it shifts to 4/4 for the first time! The guitar riff is however played in groups of 5+5+6 16ths over the beat, it can't be too simple...
H - We go back to something familiar, the very first part of the song in 11/8! The new groove at 09:07 keeps the same subdivision of 4+4+3, just a bit more extreme with it.
I - The very last part is also in 11/8, but the drums reuses the 4/8 polyrhythmic pattern from C. The guitars (though with different rhythms) and vocals play a 2+2+2+2+3 pattern which concludes the song!
I love figuring out these different rhythms, since it allows me to feel the grooves much better and really head bang in sync with the different subdivisions.
If you're not a nerd like me, I hope this showed you just how complex and innovative King Gizz are with their rhythmic trickery and sense of groove! I encourage you to listen to one part at a time and try to follow how I've broken it down to get a better sense of the grooves!
I hope some of you find this as interesting as I do, and let me know if you have other ways of understanding the rhythms!

2023.06.07 20:27 dngd0ng Why cant I see what I’m listening to on other devices?

I switched over to Apple Music from Spotify several years ago, and for the most part, I’m happy with that switch. One of the things that I never quite understood, is why I can’t see what I am listening to, or control my music from other devices? It’s a feature I used frequently in my home with Spotify and it seems like such an obvious quality of life feature that Apple should be able to engineer in to Music.
For example, if I was listening to music using Spotify on my iPhone, I could walk in to my house, see what I was listening to from my iPad and take over control from there if I wanted to. Another situation I used with Spotify was managing the playlists for a business I ran. I could see what my employees were playing in the shop from home using the account we had for the business.
With Apple, this does not appears to be possible. I can’t see what I’m listening to between devices, and if I try to take over control, I get prompted to add a family plan. Seems to me like an obvious missing feature.
