What the hell is going on with used Tesla prices

2023.06.07 14:35 RektorRicks What the hell is going on with used Tesla prices

see Tesla's website, but you can also find this in the private market. Many used Teslas are retailing at prices above MSRP - tax credit. You can find several used Teslas on this page that're more than new inventory with discount. [Another example,] model 3 SR priced at $37k which is probably 2k short of what a new one would cost, with no tax credit.
Are these cars just going after buyers who don't qualify for the tax credit? Or are dealers just trying to not get washed on what they probably paid for these trade-ins in 2021/2022? Either way seems like the used EV market seems like its in a bit strange, if you are dead-set on getting an EV that's production constrained or doesn't qualify for the tax credit I could see how used price would stay elevated, but I don't understand how the used market for Tesla EVs can stay this inflated between the tax credit and current inventory glut

2023.06.07 14:23 Lastbloom My(28f) sister(18f) is graduating high school and our mom(55f) invited our dad(57m) who we are estranged from to her graduation

She didn’t ask either of us before she invited him and she offered him a ticket first before me even though I have basically acted as a guardian to my two younger siblings most of their life.
To give more background, my father is a heroin addict and a drug dealer. He has been arrested several times include one time when he tried to strangle his girlfriend of the time. I have not had a relationship with him since 2012 when he called me and threatened my mothers life over the phone. I have been working with my therapist on going no contact with him which has been difficult because he gets a new phone number every couple of months so it’s hard to block him.
My sister is not no contact yet but she does not like being around him or talking to him. She keeps it civilized but has been also going to therapy and has been implementing more boundaries around him and has said more than once she doesn’t want him in her life.
My mother is a huge enabler of his and we have felt in the past that she prioritizes him over us even though they have been separated for 12 years and he treats her like shit, she still texts him.
My sister is graduating high school today and my mom invited my dad and volunteered to pick him up because he doesn’t have a car (we will have to all ride together in one car because there’s only one parking spot per family). My sister had stated to my mom that she doesn’t want him there and my mom acts like she doesn’t get it or didn’t understand her. My mom also invited my dad to her grad party that’s in a few weeks.
Basically I am looking for some suggestions on how to handle this. When I am around my dad it tends to trigger panic attacks for me. I want to support my sister but also take care of myself. Is there any way for me to confront my mom about her decisions that she will actually understand this time?
Tl;dr My mom invited my abusive father to my sisters graduation without asking us. How do I deal with the event and my mom?

2023.06.07 14:08 WagonWheel22 Chris Christie Officially Announces 2024 Campaign, Taking Aim at Trump

From CNN:
Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie kicked off his second presidential campaign on Tuesday with a lacerating indictment of former President Donald Trump, calling his ally-turned-rival a “lonely, self-consumed mirror hog” who, by force of personality alone, represents a threat to the republic.
At a town hall event in New Hampshire, Christie – who endorsed Trump after dropping out of the 2016 primary and then became a close adviser to the former president ahead of the 2020 election – described his past support as an error and urged Republicans to join him in rejecting the GOP front-runner.
“Beware of the leader in this country, who you have handed leadership to, who has never made a mistake, who has never done anything wrong, who when something goes wrong it’s always someone else’s fault. And who has never lost,” Christie said of Trump.
“I can’t guarantee you success, but I can guarantee you that at the end of it, you will have no doubt in your mind who I am and what I stand for and whether I deserve it,” he said. “That’s why I came back to New Hampshire to tell all of you that I intend to seek the Republican nomination for President of the United States in 2024.”...
Christie’s announcement on Tuesday, which followed his filing with the Federal Election Commission earlier in the day, came a day after fellow GOP moderate Chris Sununu, the governor of New Hampshire, opted against running and less than 24 hours before former Vice President Mike Pence officially enters the race. Like in 2016, Christie is seeking to appeal to more traditionally conservative, establishment-friendly Republicans – and hope that he can emerge as a foil to Trump and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis in a rapidly growing field.
Also similar to that first run: Christie is part of a crowded field that, if history is any guide, could pave the way for a nominee currently running with less than majority support among Republicans. Along with Trump and DeSantis, former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson and South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott have all launched bids. Pence, who has already filed paperwork to run, and North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum are expected to join the crowd on Wednesday.
Christie on Tuesday touted his ability to be a pugilist while also making a case for compromise – something he called out DeSantis, a former Freedom Caucus member in the US House who now enjoys unified GOP control of the state legislature, for never succeeding at or even attempting.
He also chided DeSantis and Trump over their murky positions on the Russian invasion of Ukraine and, in what sounded like a jab at DeSantis’ and other primary candidates’ attacks on “woke ideology,” said the field included a bunch of “pretenders” who are “talking about issues that are so small that sometimes it’s hard to even understand them.”
That group, Christie added, treated Trump like the “Harry Potter” villain Voldemort, whose name the books’ protagonists are banned from speaking.
“The person I am talking about who’s obsessed with the mirror, who never admits a mistake, who never admits a fault and who always find someone else and something else to blame for whatever goes wrong, but finds every reason for anything that goes right – is Donald Trump,” Christie said.
As CNN has previously reported, Christie believes he is best-positioned to take on Trump in the primary while also appealing to independents in a potential general election showdown with President Joe Biden. He begins his bid with the support of a new super PAC, called “Tell It Like It Is,” formed by allies in anticipation of his campaign.
Christie offered a less edgy take on Biden, accusing the president of “dividing” voters but also recalling their decades-old relationship. Being “timid,” “quiet” and “not speaking to us regularly” were, as Christie told it, Biden’s foremost sins. Along with his age.
“He’s a nice man. He’s out of his depth because he’s not the guy he used to be,” Christie said. “Father Time always wins.”
Christie’s flirtation with presidential politics began in 2011, when he considered running in a primary to take on then-President Barack Obama a year later. He demurred, then saw his standing with Republicans sag ahead of 2016. His 2016 campaign was short-lived and most memorable for Christie’s mocking evisceration of Florida Sen. Marco Rubio in a February debate.
He helmed Trump’s transition team – though his work was eventually trashed and Christie himself sidelined days after the election – and later on became a close adviser to the former president. He was floated as a potential appointment to a number of administration jobs, though none ever materialized. He even participated in mock debates with Trump in 2020. (Christie has said he believes he contracted Covid-19 from Trump, who did not disclose a positive test result, during one of those sessions.)
Following Trump’s defeat and subsequent attempt to overturn the 2020 election, Christie turned on him and sought to establish himself as one of Trump’s chief Republican critics.
“We keep losing and losing and losing,” Christie said at the Republican Jewish Coalition’s annual leadership conference late last year. “The reason we’re losing is because Donald Trump has put himself before everybody else.”
He also has said that Trump “incited” the January 6, 2021, insurrection at the US Capitol “in an effort to intimidate Mike Pence and the Congress into doing exactly what he said in his own words last week: overturn the election.”
In an interview with Axios this year, he vowed never to support Trump again.
“I can’t help him,” Christie said. “No way.”
Asked by an audience member on Tuesday whether he had a plan to win over “Trump voters,” Christie disputed the characterization – and insisted that Republicans should not view people who had previously voted for Trump as an impenetrable group.
“There is no such thing as ‘Trump voters.’ He doesn’t own them. He didn’t take title to them. They’re not one of his buildings. They’re not one of his casinos in New Jersey. They’re not that wreck he’s got in Las Vegas,” Christie said. “I voted for him twice. Am I a Trump voter? Hell no, man.”

NYC flunks economics 101 - is this why our taxes and deficits are out of control?

Photo above - discarded crack pipes made from ordinary household trash. Can't we do better? Not shown - NYC's free vending machines, with made-in-America corporate crack pipes.
NYC unveils vending machine for drug users, with free crack pipes and Narcan for ODs Fox News
Being a politician is a job with no credentials required. No college education. Knowledge of history not needed. Never had any economics training? - Okay! Not even basic math. All you need to do is convince enough people to vote for you.
As exhibit A, I submit New York City's latest brainstorm – free vending machines for crack pipes and Narcan. See link above. There's so much wrong here, I don't know where to begin.
First off – common sense. If you had just $1 left in your bank account (NY is, in fact, having a budget crisis), would you blow it on crack pipes? Or possibly something more relevant . . . like fire inspections, subway repairs, or public school infrastructure? Obviously, the guys who dreamed up the crack pipe machines have never seen an apartment fire, ridden on the subway, or have any kids in public schools.
Is the concept behind free crack pipes something like this: addicts wouldn't be unable to afford to purchase a pipe after making a drug buy? A subsidy to help dealers keep crack prices high? In any case, the last time anyone checked, you could get all the discarded crack pipes you wanted in Central Park, or in the subway. Maybe even school playgrounds . . .
Perhaps elected officials are trying to get out in front of a future problem. With all the drug cartel members crossing the border, at least SOME of them are going to find their way to NYC. This means more crack and fentanyl on the streets. Shouldn't we make sure there are enough pipes, to surf the wave of drug buys? The last thing New Yorkers want to see is some alarming TV report on the shortage of crack pipes. They would certainly hold city hall responsible for that, right?
Free Narcan in these very same crack-a-cola vending machines? In case you're not familiar, Narcan is a miracle drug that brings overdosed people back from a near-death experience. And it really works too. But like most pharmaceuticals in America, it can get pricey. A police department near me (Florida) reported recently that they had a Narcan SHORTAGE, because it costs hundreds per dose. And if you don't store NARCAN properly, or administer it correctly, it's worthless. So yes, but all means, let's put Narcan in free vending machines. Where someone can steal it – and sell it to police departments and concerned parents in other states.
How does someone even COME UP with the idea of crack pipe vending machines, free or otherwise? Does a city official tell his minions to draft an RFP – request for proposal – and start mailing it out to soda and chip machine vendors? “Gentlemen! Could you build these, and if so how much would each cost? We anticipate buying hundreds.” Or did a politician with ties to a vending machine racket – er I mean entrepreneur – get approached by the machine guys? Is this a scheme by politicians to steer money to their vending pals? If so, politicians should expect contributions from vending guys during the next election. Insist on it, even.
Giving away Narcan alongside crack pipes is like bundling free Band-Aids and switchblade knives together. It might seem even handed to someone unfamiliar with knives, but in the end you'll need an endless supply of Band-Aids.
My dad only got as far as a high school diploma, but he was a smart guy. He told me “if you subsidize something, you get more of it. If you tax it, you get less of it." In a nutshell that's economics 101. NYC has decided to subsidize crack pipes and raise taxes on legitimate citizens. Can you guess how this turns out . . .?

2023.06.07 13:52 westwindsororthodont Understanding Invisalign Cost in New Jersey: Factors That Influence the Price

Introduction:
Invisalign has become a popular and discreet alternative to traditional braces for achieving a straighter smile. If you're considering Invisalign treatment in New Jersey, understanding the factors that influence the cost is essential. While the actual cost can vary depending on several factors, knowing what to expect can help you make an informed decision about your orthodontic investment. In this blog post, west windsor orthodontics will explore the key factors that influence Invisalign cost in New Jersey.
Complexity of the Case:
The complexity of your orthodontic case is a significant factor in determining the cost of Invisalign treatment. Cases that require extensive tooth movements, significant misalignments, or more severe orthodontic issues may require longer treatment times and more aligners. As a result, the cost of Invisalign may be higher for complex cases.
Treatment Duration:
The duration of your Invisalign treatment can impact the overall cost. In some cases, shorter treatments require fewer aligners, resulting in a lower cost. However, more complex cases or cases that require extensive corrections may necessitate longer treatment times, which can increase the overall cost of the treatment.
Orthodontic Provider:
The choice of your orthodontic provider can influence the cost of Invisalign in New Jersey. Different practices may have varying fee structures, taking into account factors such as their expertise, experience, and location. It's important to research and consult with multiple orthodontists in New Jersey to find the right balance between quality and affordability.
Geographic Location:
The cost of Invisalign treatment can also be influenced by the geographic location of the orthodontic practice in New Jersey. Areas with a higher cost of living or higher demand for orthodontic services may have slightly higher treatment costs. However, it's worth noting that the variation in cost due to geographic location is usually minimal.
Additional Procedures:
In some cases, additional dental procedures may be necessary alongside Invisalign treatment. For example, if you require tooth extractions, tooth-colored attachments, or other dental work before or during your Invisalign treatment, these additional procedures may impact the overall cost.
Insurance Coverage:
Insurance coverage for orthodontic treatment, including Invisalign, varies depending on the insurance provider and the specifics of your plan. Some dental insurance plans offer partial coverage for orthodontic treatment, which can help offset the cost of Invisalign. It is important to check with your insurance provider to understand your coverage and any limitations or restrictions related to Invisalign treatment.
Conclusion:
When considering Invisalign treatment in New Jersey, it's crucial to understand the factors that influence the cost. The complexity of your case, treatment duration, choice of orthodontic provider, geographic location, additional procedures, and insurance coverage are all factors to consider. By consulting with reputable orthodontic practices in New Jersey and discussing these factors, you can get a clear understanding of the overall cost of Invisalign treatment tailored to your specific needs. Remember, investing in your smile can have long-lasting benefits for your oral health and self-confidence.

2023.06.07 13:47 burgher89 Driving in Vermont is a breath of fresh air.

Currently on a road trip from PA, spent a night in Connecticut on our way to Burlington, and after crossing PA, through New Jersey, Connecticut, and part of Massachusetts, I have to say the highway driving in Vermont is the best I have encountered anywhere along the east coast. Everyone stays in the right lane except when passing, and once they’re done passing they move back over. I can count on one hand the number of times I was slowed by someone in front of me in the passing lane, and even when I was, they often sped up a little bit to get out of the way faster. Seriously, kudos Vermont.
New Jersey on the other hand… you need to get your shit together. Bunch of assholes who AGGRESSIVELY refuse to get out of the left lane there. Unbelievably stupid.

2023.06.07 13:17 Cryptoplayers Only the community can decide which casino is the best?

Sure, there are some key bullet points below that a casino must have to even be considered the best casino.
  1. Wide Selection of Games: A top-tier crypto casino should offer a diverse range of games, including popular options like slots, table games (e.g., blackjack, roulette, poker), live dealer games, and potentially unique cryptocurrency-themed games.
  2. Provably Fair System: Implementing a provably fair system is essential for transparency and player trust. It allows players to independently verify the fairness of game outcomes, ensuring that results are not manipulated.
  3. Secure and Reliable Platform: Strong security measures, such as SSL encryption, two-factor authentication, and robust data protection, are critical to safeguard player information and funds. Regular audits and adherence to industry standards also contribute to reliability.
  4. Support for Multiple Cryptocurrencies: A top crypto casino should support a variety of cryptocurrencies beyond just Bitcoin, such as Ethereum, Litecoin, and others. This enables players to have more options and flexibility in their transactions.
  5. User-Friendly Interface: The platform should have an intuitive and user-friendly interface that makes it easy for players to navigate, find their favorite games, and manage their accounts and transactions efficiently.
  6. Fast and Transparent Transactions: Quick deposit and withdrawal processes are crucial, ensuring that players can access their funds promptly. Additionally, transparent transaction histories help build trust and allow users to track their activities.
  7. Attractive Bonuses and Promotions: Generous bonuses, including welcome bonuses, deposit matches, free spins, and loyalty rewards, are important for enticing new players and rewarding loyal customers.
  8. Responsive Customer Support: A reliable crypto casino should offer responsive customer support services, preferably available 24/7 through multiple channels such as live chat, email, or phone. Prompt assistance and effective problem-solving contribute to a positive player experience.
  9. Mobile Compatibility: In today's mobile-driven world, a strong mobile presence is crucial. A crypto casino should have a responsive and well-optimized website or a dedicated mobile app to allow players to enjoy their favorite games on the go.
  10. Licensing and Regulation: Operating under proper licensing and regulation instills trust and confidence in players. A reputable crypto casino should be licensed by a recognized authority and adhere to relevant gambling regulation
However, let's say we have 10 qualifiers for the best crypto casino in the world. Then it should be up to the community to decide which of these casinos should get the title of the best casino in the world, right?

What Is The Worst Car Brand?

https://preview.redd.it/noa1ryl1wk4b1.jpg?width=1200&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=19eb7f029f36d27e4a7564d9a98672acb2c2ab89
Selecting a reliable vehicle can be a tricky journey, but knowing what the worst car brand is can help a lot. There’s only so much you can learn from reading the lists of best models. Sometimes it’s better to filter out those manufacturers that simply aren’t worth your money and energy.
Knowing the reputation of a brand is essential if you want to avoid the title of the “worst drivers by car brand”. None of us want to get featured in those and, trust me, you might still end up there even if you’re the best driver the earth has ever seen.
Today we’ll see which brands fail to deliver the performance we expected and what you should know to select a reliable model.

WHAT IS THE WORST CAR BRAND PRODUCED IN JAPAN?

4 worst releases from Japanese manufacturers

It’s really hard to name the worst car brand ever when it comes to the Japanese market. Their vehicles usually rank high on consumer reports, making it difficult to bash Japanese manufacturers. However, we can still talk about certain brands that have released poorly performing cars.

2019 Infiniti QX30

Infiniti vehicles are abundant on the lists of worst vehicles. For some reason, their newer releases fail to meet our expectations. Their QX30 leaves a lot to be desired – it’s not as good as its cheaper competitors. Plus, it doesn’t offer anything new – you’d probably get the same deal if you went for an older model.

2019 Nissan Sentra

2019 Nissan Sentra is quite overpriced, to say the least. It doesn’t have anything exciting to force us to forget about its poor performance. Driving it is a dreadful experience since the interior is quite cheap both in terms of looks and feel.

2019 Infiniti Q70

2019 Infiniti Q70 isn’t any better. Even though it’s priced and marketed as a luxury vehicle, it fails to deliver the performance and comfort we expect from a higher range. You can get far better models for less money.

2019 Mitsubishi Mirage

2019 Mitsubishi Mirage scores quite poorly on reliability scores. It’s quite affordable and fuel-efficient, yet it won’t last you long enough to appreciate those features. It doesn’t have any improvements from previous models either.
What is the worst brand of car to buy new? – I’d say Infiniti. Their newer models are a waste of money. Japanese manufacturers have a lot to offer and that’s exactly why we judge these vehicles so strictly. The bar is too high to turn a blind eye on such poor releases.

WHAT IS THE WORST CAR BRAND PRODUCED IN GERMAN?

https://preview.redd.it/di6457m3wk4b1.jpg?width=1980&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c4e0c2e067e4cd6368f11559918bf96f35a8ab15
Commonly known for durability, certain German manufacturers have low reliability scores, including Volkswagen, Audi, BMW, Mercedes Benz, and Porsche. Even though these brands have some outstanding vehicles, many of their models are failing in terms of safety.

Volkswagen

I can’t say that Volkswagen is the worst car brand on earth, yet their vehicles fall short of performance. Some of their models are costly as they reveal quite a few problems. There are some advices on how to increase car mileage and reduce fuel costs. Overall, consumers aren’t that happy with VW.

Audi

Surprisingly, Audi doesn’t have high reliability scores. Some of their models are absolutely breathtaking, while others leave a lot to be desired. There are some tips and tricks that you can take into account to increase car mileage. However, such in consistency is the very reason why this brand is often listed among the worst manufacturers.

BMW

Another German brand that doesn’t meet the consumers’ expectations is BMW. Their cars are often judged because they aren’t reliable. I’m not saying that all of their models are horrible – I’m just saying that some of their vehicles don’t deliver the quality we want from a German manufacturer.

Mercedes Benz

The users of Mercedes Benz have reported quite a few problems as well. You’ll certainly have a luxury experience with their cars, yet they won’t be as durable as vehicles from Lexus or Subaru.

Porsche

Porsche is probably the worst car brand for safety. If you buy their car, you’ll likely have to face a lot of problems. The repairs will be pricey, which is why you need to think carefully before you go for their vehicle.
German cars also have high depreciation rates which is another reason why they aren’t the best investment.
While we’re talking about German cars, it’s worth noting that the worst Italian car brand is Alfa Romeo. Their vehicles tend to result in high repair costs. However, you can review some tips and tricks that help you to take good care of your car and make your car last longer.

WHAT CAR BRAND DRIVES THE WORST MOTORISTS?

The manufacturers that attract the worst drivers are plenty but the ones that stand out are the Audi, BMW, Mercedes, Range Rover, and VW. We don’t judge anyone personally, yet these cars tend to attract the most annoying drivers.

Audi

If you want to experience an uncontrollable rage, you should drive next to an Audi. They host pretentious drivers who get out of their way to show off their vehicles. They might not cause that many accidents but they surely will force you to scold them with your glance.

BMW

For some reason, BMW drivers tend to believe they rule the world. They forget all the signs and drive as if the roads were in their possession. Their driving habits will surely drive you nuts.

Mercedes Benz

Mercedes Benz cars are luxurious yet we can’t say the same about their drivers. Just because you own a Mercedes doesn’t mean you should drive like a moron. For some reason, the owners of this brand are among the most obnoxious drivers.

Range Rover

To be fair, not all of the Range Rover drivers are annoying. If you bought an off-road to drive in the city, congratulations, you’re probably one of the worst drivers. Cars have labels for a reason and an off-road doesn’t belong on busy city streets.

Volkswagen

Volkswagen drivers are annoying not because they don’t know how to drive, but because they still believe they own a BMW. If you look out the window and wonder “who drives like that”, I’m guessing you’re next to a VW. They always want to be in the first row and do their best to squeeze themselves even on the busiest streets.

HOW TO CHOOSE A RELIABLE CAR?

If you want to steer away from the worst reliable car brand and instead purchase a durable vehicle, you should do your research carefully. The only way to buy a reliable car is to spend hours reading reviews and reports. You can use the following steps as a guide.

Check out reliability scores

The first thing you should do is to examine reliability scores. J.D Power and Consumer Reports release information about vehicles every year. They rate cars depending on their category and always explore dependability, safety, and performance in their research.

Read consumers’ reviews

But it’s also important to read other people’s reviews. That way, you’ll understand what problems they had and why. Their experience will help you purchase a car that will stay by your side for a long time.

Don’t get fooled by marketing

Worst drivers by car brand purchase vehicles because of amazing marketing campaigns. That’s one of the reasons why they are so annoying on the roads. If you don’t want to be among them, you should always double-check the information you see in those ads. Once again, reading reviews and consumer reports is the key.

Don’t fall for dealers’ suggestions

Certain salespeople earn their commissions based on the cars they sell. For example, they will get more if they sell BMW instead of Toyota. They might tell you that a certain vehicle has the most innovative speaker system. They might hype up the car just to crank up the value. I’m not saying that all salespeople are lying – I’m just saying that you shouldn’t trust their suggestions blindfolded.

FINAL TAKEAWAY

Even though the brands we discussed don’t have the highest reliability scores, it doesn’t mean we should refuse to buy every vehicle they release. All of them have great models that will prove their worth over time.
As you can see, it’s not difficult to label a manufacturer as the worst car brand. What’s difficult is to find a car that is worth your money. You should remember that you can find great cars among Japanese, British, Italian, or German manufacturers – you simply have to have a model-based approach.
Don’t buy the vehicles from top brands – purchase a car that scores high on reliability ratings. Examine resale value, look for answers online, and don’t judge cars by their brands.
