So - I've been into birding and other wildlife photography for the last year. I like building a story around my pictures and hence spend considerable time processing my photos. I also try to add in a few videos into the mix on my social page. Currently, I'm using my work laptop which is an 8 gb HP i5 8th gen machine to run: 1. Adobe Bridge 2. Topaz - Denoising software 3. Affinity Photo / Lightroom
Sometimes I end up having all these open in my workflow. This throttles my process so bad and my laptop becomes close to unresponsive, for obvious reasons 😅
So I've decided that I need a better laptop to do this photo / video editing (predominantly photo). I've also decided to get a monitor for better While reading about what are the requirements for this workflow I stumbled upon some options: 1. Macbook Air M1 2. Macbook Air M2 3. Asus Zenbook series (Pro / Pro Duo) 4. Asus Vivobook Pro 5. Some gaming laptop? (Might be too heavy I feel). 6. Dell XPS series (expensive? For what they offer, I feel)
I haven't really researched much into other brands. Looks like what I need is: i5/i7 12th/13th generation, a 16GB RAM minimum and a 512GB SSD minimum. Discreet graphics card could be helpful especially with denoising, but integrated should suffice I think?
I'm from India and my budget would be around INR 1 - 1.4 lacs
The problem I have with MacBook is the base specs seem very less and the upgrades make it expensive. Second, the I/O ports are too limited. Also, the transition to a different OS is something I'm not sure if it's a good idea? What are you suggestions? Are there any other laptops I can look at apart from the above-mentioned ones?
Note: I also like the idea of a touchscreen/stylus, or a dial like feature (from Asus). Although I'm not sure if it matters at that much. I will take my laptop on my travels so shouldn't be too heavy as well.

This is a pretty long story about my first job in retail. I have a lot of horror stories from that job but this is one that sticks with me even 4-5 years later.
A few years ago after I had just started college, I got my first job working in the shoe department of a sporting goods store. My job was simple, assistant customers with finding the shoes we want, keep the isles neat and organized, and occasionally order shoes for customers if they didn't have them in stock. One day my department had a call from a customer asking if we had a shoe in stock. I checked, told them we did, and then they asked if I could put the shoe on hold for them. Once again, I did, and kept it in the back till they arrived.
When they did arrive, they told me the name and I went retrieve the shoe for them. When they got the shoe, they claimed it was the wrong shoe. I was confused at first cause I thought I had gotten the one they wanted, but decided that I may have made a mistake. Not making a big deal about it I apologized and asked for the product name again to search our inventory, only to realize I had gotten the same shoe I just handed to them.
Now I was really confused, the shoe they were asking for was the shoe I just gave them, but they said it was wrong. So I decided to take them to the isle the shoe came from to see if they would like to look at the selection. The shoe they had asked for, which was still the shoe I had given them, was actually on display. They saw the name to confirm it themselves, but still insisted it was wrong. Come to find out the reason they said it was wrong is cause, supposedly, the show underwent some kind of design change and now instead of being a pure black shoe, it was a black shoe with a small, white line going around the bottom of the shoe. It was the same exact shoe but they were confused because apparently this line was not there the last time they bought it.
They explained they were buying it for their son who worked on an oil rig and needed this type of work shoe for the job because they knew it was the one he liked, but were confused because of the new design of the shoe. They were an elderly couple so I assumed they just thought it was a different shoe, and knowing their son liked it they were concerned with getting him a different pair he might not like as much.
I reassured them it was the same shoe despite it's change in appearance, and I'm sure their son would still be happy with it, to which they continued to argue it wasn't right. It now felt like I was trying to convince them that one small design change wouldn't change the way the shoe worked. When that still didn't get through to them I tried offering a different pair, to which they insisted they needed this shoe but without the white line.
At this point I'm getting frustrated because it had been 30 minutes since I started trying to help these idiots.
Eventually my manager walked by and asked what was going on. After the customers explained the situation, she joined to try and help me. Eventually she managed to convince them it was the same shoe. I was a little annoyed that it took her 5 minutes to do something I'd been trying to do for the last 30 minutes but was happy this exchange was finally over... Or so I thought.
After convincing them, they decided they wanted me to order the shoes for them rather than just buy the pair I had already given them. Our store had a system that allowed you to order a pair of shoes online and have them sent directly to your house. So I started going through the process of ordering the shoes for them. If any of you have ever purchased something online before, which I'd assume is most of you, it was the same process.
The system requires information like your home address, email address, zip code, phone number, etc.
I should mention by the way they had mentioned having ordered a pair of shoes from us before, and I'd been working here roughly around 2 years by this point so I knew how our ordering system worked, and I know the way we do it had never changed. So I start asking for their information, first of all they claim they don't have an email address. This was back in 2019, it was incredibly baffling to me that anyone in a modern era didn't have an email address, but that's not where the frustration continued. As I had asked for each bit of information they had to question me on why they needed it. Then at one point the old lady, who had been doing most of the talking during this whole exchange, interupts me to claim she had never had to give us this information before and didn't understand why I needed it. I then explain to her that this is the way we've always ordered shoes for our customers, and if she had ordered with us before like she said then she definitely has had to have given us this information.
She starts to rant about it and claims, and I quote, "I may be on crazy pills but I know I've never had to do this before."
After letting her finish her rant I explain, a bit short of patience this time, that this is just how the process works and if she wants these shoes she's doing to have to cooperate with me.
Eventually I get her information, order the shoes, and they leave. This entire exchange lasted a total of 45 minutes, which is 40 minutes longer than it needed to be. By the time they left my manager saw how frustrated I was and told me I could go sit in the break room to calm down for a minute, which I gladly did.
Customer service employees do not get paid enough to deal with people like that day after day. We are human, not machines, you cannot talk to us like we're your computers. Half the time we don't know what's going on either and most of us don't even care.
Which is why anyone who tells me the customer is always right, I laugh in their face and tell them to go fuck themselves.

Hi, I currently have a Brother XM2701 that I bought as my first sewing machine. I'm in the market for a new machine because this one struggles sewing anything remotely thick and i really don't like the overlock stich it has? i feel like it makes finishing everything a pain in the ass trying to enclose all those seams cause I feel like it simply makes too many holes in the fabric no matter how many adjustments i make. I don't know if the words "Heavy duty" actually mean anything in the sewing world. What should I be looking for if i want to sew thru several layers more easily apart from just.. going straight industrial

Are you really asleep? Maybe once or twice a week I'll reach over to my wife while she's sleeping, and stick my hand down her panties.. she seems to LOVE it. I recently moved to a new apartment that is very nice. It just doesn't have the space for a home gym, or a free-access gym that my last apartment did. I have been researching small form-factor "home gym" systems like the maxpro portable cable gym and tonal.
I like the idea of a portable (read "small"), cable-based home gym machine. The only issue is there seems to be no middle ground between the $1,000 options with all the bells and whistles and the $150 options that are all elastic bands and plastic.
Anyone know of any small "home gym" systems around the $500 price range? Money isn't a major issue but would like to keep it as inexpensive as possible.

My basement washing machine drains into a sump where a sewage pump lifts the waste water to the main drain. For three years this hasn't been a problem.
Recently, when my washing machine gets partially through the drain cycle, the sewage pump comes on and trips the GFCI it's plugged into. What's weird is that it also cuts power to the washing machine when this happens. Note that the washing machine is also plugged into a different GFCI plug and it doesn't trip when this happens.
In some ways I suppose this is good, the washing machine can't keep draining and thus overflow the sump when the pump isn't working. Once I reset the pump GFCI without the washing machine on, the pump starts up and there is no problem. It continues to work fine through showers and flushing toilets, it's only during the wash cycle it trips.
So my question is what to blame: the sewage pump, the washing machine, or the GFCI plug for the pump?

With the price point of a mr-1 it’s very tempting to get it i just have a handful of questions.
Is it capable of milling out AR 80% lowers?
Is it capable of making precise intricate parts from stainless steel? (Example be 1911 parts where tighter tolerances are more sought after)
what’s the biggest part someone has made on the mr-1? ( I’m not strictly just making gun parts and 80% lowers I’d like to make other stuff too)

Is it capable of making precise intricate parts from stainless steel? (Example be 1911 parts where tighter tolerances are more sought after)
what’s the biggest part someone has made on the mr-1? ( I’m not strictly just making gun parts and 80% lowers I’d like to make other stuff too)

Thats it, above is my requirement, but if you have time, read a long post on my nostalgic past with bikes, as you are the audience that i feel would understand my journey.
Since the day i remember, i loved anything on two wheels. As a kid, i learnt to ride a cycle when i was 4 (no training wheels). I would ride so fast and i still remember few falls that i had. I was that annoying kid with a cycle that neighbours would always complain about.
My father used to own a bajaj chetak 150cc 2 stroke scooter and i used to stand on the front foot panel. He would let me use the throttle and he would take care of clutch, gear and brake. after couple of years, he would let me operate the clutch, gear and throttle. Couple of years later, my feet barely touched the ground, and by class 5 i was riding my dads scooter solo.
Parallely, our neighbour uncle had Hero Honda CD 100, every sunday morning, let would let me ride his motorcycle to buy groceries and he would be my pillion. I loved how smooth the machine was when compared to our two stroke scooter. I wished our family had a motorcycle.
I was updated on every single motorcycle that was released in India during the 96- early 2000 time frame. And i was very passionate about bikes as every other kid.
I graduated high school (class 10) and my father promised to get me a motorcycle when i turned 18, only IF i get selected in a particular engineering college in our town. I always knew what i wanted - a brand new Yahama RX 135 4stroke.
2004, I got selected in above said college which was 10 Kms away from home. I was 17 and used to ride a cycle to college. It was difficult to ride cycle in peak summer months and motorcycle now became a necessity and i was waiting to get my license. I even saved money and got my helmet before we got my bike. The day i turned 18 in 2005, i went to RTO with my dad and his scooter and got my license.
Next day, we were at the Yamaha showroom to check out the RX135. I got a big blow of a news that RX135 was just discontinued. And the updated Yamaha Libero (round headlight) was the only alternative at yamaha at that point. I was super disappointed and returned home, but made up my mind to buy a libero.
In that timeframe, the 150+cc vehicles, CBZ, Tvs Fierro, Bajaj Pulsar, Karizma were enthusiast level bikes and were very expensive for us middle-class folks. We would rarely see them on roads back then. so owning one was not even in my dreams. I was happy that i was about to get a motorcycle, i was okay with anything. Also, i was very skinny guy to be riding big 150 cc bikes.
One of my father's friend recommended us to visit Bajaj showroom as they were making bikes that churned out maximum mileage. So we visited the Bajaj showroom and salesman was pushing to sell Platina or Discover 110cc. I was walking around the brand new Pulsar 150 which was recently upgraded to alloy wheels. I knew i was never getting the bike, but it looked damn sexy and i was genuinely appreciating it.
My dad asked me if i wanted the pulsar. I said NO and i was okay with Platina. And at that point, the salesman intervened and told my dad that anyways Pulsar would be too heavy for me and platina would suit my personality better. This somehow annoyed my father and he told the salesman that i have been riding vehicles for a very long time and asked the manager to book the Pulsar for me. I was confused, happy and anxious at the same time. I had never ridden a 150cc vehicle before and i presumed it would be very heavy and difficult.
A week and 56000 rupees later, I had the motorcycle beyond my dreams. I had the 1st alloy wheeled pulsar in my college that too in Black. And boy i showed off. Every dayscholar in my college knew me by my bike. It was my identity. I pampered my bike yet rode fast and hard (after breakin). I used to indulge in road rages, participate in adhoc street races with other 150cc. Looking back, it was highly irresponsible, but i was young.
For the next 10 years, i had so much fun. i never let anyone else ride my bike. We both got old together. And at this point, 150 cc was a commuter. There were many better 150cc vehicles that got released, Yamaha FZS, Unicorn, Apache etc. I loved riding all these bikes and appreciated the improvements, smoother engines with more BHP, lighter clutch and better brakes. Yet, my bike was always special. It was by my side in every high and low moments of my life. By then i got a diesel swift as well, yet i always enjoyed being on 2 wheels.
2014 i had to move abroad and i knew that it was time for my pulsar to be retired. I would never sell it, so i re-registered my bike over to my cousin and he takes care of it till now and I melt whenever i ride it.
2016, had to come back to India for my wedding and stayed here for some time. I needed a bike to commute to office, i got myself a slightly used Yamaha FZs 16. I enjoyed riding it, but i would get knee and back pain. Then switched over to my friend's Gixxer 150 for couple of months, worse, the footpegs were so behind and i my knees wouldn't tuck under the tank. I had bad ankle, knee and back ache. Maybe i was getting old. But I was riding all new vehicles around that my colleagues/Friends would buy and it was exciting.
Couple of notable bikes that i rode which i loved. Duke 390 - I had a blast with that motorcycle, but it was not practical for every day, it cannot be ridden sanely. Its like that red devil that posses you and makes you ride fast. Other bike was R15 on a race track. A group of my colleagues booked a track for couple of hours and it was an experience to remember.
2017, I had to move abroad again, and this time i stayed there for 6 years. did not have much chance to ride 2 wheeler there as getting a 2 wheeler license and associated insurance was very high. But i always missed riding bikes. I would be so excited to see other bikers on road.
Now, 2023 moved back to India for good. I ride my father's activa and its fun to ride. Yes,my father retired our Chetak and bought an activa few years ago.
Today, i am the rider who rides fast to get out of the traffic and rides slow on empty roads. Our Activa is a necessity for family to buy groceries etc. But i need a motorcycle for everyday use that i can use everyday in city and enjoy.

Avem had them placed all throughout that Rebuilt Old Character House, and within that Glorified Mansion, there were Smoked Pipes, In and On Cupboards, Resting Upon Windowsills (with the Drapes Pulled or Left Open), upon Countertops, Hidden Inside of Bookshelves (if not Resting Upon them), of course on the Mantle, Hidden In and Around Corners.. at Every End, Above and Slightly Adjacent to Entrances, and even some, which were included upon the Tabletops...
All of these Smoking Pipes, some with Ashen Remainders in them, some only Constructed Models of, what we imagine, would have been kept for their Interest Sake, were watched by a Careful Set-Up, of Video Surveillance.
The Surveillance, Signaled Hanging Display Monitors, all throughout the House, and also at Avem's Lab in Tokyo. This Data, was made readable by her Reverse Tonic, which Tabulated it, by Codices, which had Variables in her own Mental Inter-Framing. Cog-Notes, if you will, to her own Cognition. All of, these, Variables, which entered her Consideration, let her Pry, both on Known, and Unknown, Territories. She frequently Drank her Cyber-Tonic from a Vial in her Lab, while going over Her Work.

Turning on a Ventilation Fan, from outside, which led the Room's Air into a Separate Chamber, she had Two People, Dressed in Dark Robes, walk in, and move Perry back to his Chair, now Limp. They Swept Up, the Remaining Crystalline Deciduates, and Drains Opened, which Took the Little Bit of Liquidine Debris, Out of the Room. Perry, was now Toned.
Swarma, Placed her Hand on his Forehead, at First to Take his Temperature, and then, Mentally Calibrating his Vocal Remembrance within Herself, Uttered a Word to him, While he sat Slumped over the Chair, Catatonic. The Word.

Parts of it are buggy - e.g. the Windows Security control app often doesn't open; the display drivers seem glitchy (my monitor often goes dark)
This insistence on opening Edge to view online stuff - I've two other browsers installed, one is default, yet MS still insists on using Edge to view things I click from within the OS.
I keep finding new, non-essential utilities running in the background that are using my machine's resources - e.g. My history of things I search for, analytics that are being sent back to mother ship, and so on.

2023.06.07 15:18 ZeusHuman First night w/ machine. Apple Watch shows that Deep Sleep and REM time was much more decreased than before getting machine, even after full night’s sleep.
Just got an APAP yesterday. For over a year (with no machine) Apple Watch shows that on an 8-hr night of sleep, I can typically expect at least 45 min of that to be Deep Sleep and approximately 1 hr 25 minutes of that to be REM Sleep. Last night on APAP that was not the case. The watch is showing a majority was core (light) sleep and I only got 4 minutes of Deep and 57 minutes of REM. Is this normal? Could the machine be throwing off the watch or is my deep/REM sleep really suffering?
