2023.06.05 15:15 kbjone It's that time again...
While it's not quite the Stanley Cup Playoffs, college baseball's postseason is one hell of a trip with all kinds of twists, turns, and plenty of teams to point and laugh at from the first pitch of each regional to the glories of Omaha. (It's baseball, OF COURSE the crown jewel would be in the middle of... well, not quite nowhere, but close enough. As an LSU fan, it's that proverbial pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.)
-Without further adieu, let's cut to the chase with our first batch of eliminations. These teams are like those opening jobbers on Ninja Warrior, the ones who slip off the first obstacle and end up all soaked.
Northeastern, Florida A&M, Arizona, Lipscomb, Tulane, Eastern Illinois, Army, San Jose State, Maine, UNC-Wilmington, Oklahoma State*, Ball State, Auburn*, Wright State, Central Connecticut, and Nicholls State: Pack your shit up, and go home, you are ELIMINATED from the NCAA College Baseball Championship.
Now, why do two of those teams have stars by their name? Because not only did they lose two straight... they did so as the host team! #13 Auburn suffered the indignity of losing to Penn in their opener before getting sent home by Southern Miss. #11 Oklahoma State one-upped them by losing to ORAL ROBERTS... then getting Malcolm X curbstomped by DALLAS BAPTIST 18-4.
-With the jobbers out of the way, this next batch of teams comes up on the chopping block. One win is better than zero, but the end result is the same.
So... Maryland, UConn, Santa Clara, Clemson*, Sam Houston, Vanderbilt*, Oklahoma, Cal State Fullerton, UL-Lafayette, Rider, Washington, West Virginia, Samford, North Carolina, NC State, and Troy, you have been ELIMINATED. Kindly pack your stuff up and return home... unless you have a star by your name, as you're already home. And possibly being lynched by angry fans.
Once more, we get to point and laugh at a pair of teams. #4 Clemson, #6 Vanderbilt, you had visions of hosting Super Regionals dancing in your heads. And then you got concussed by Charlotte and Xavier after understandable losses to Tennessee (now officially Clemson's daddy) and Oregon. Go stand in the LOL corner and think about what you've done.
-Despite Mother Nature taking a piss on several regionals, even more teams have met their 2023 season's final resting place in the regional finals. Considering it takes two wins just to get that far, there's little dishonor in bowing out here. Usually. For this step, we'll give the losers a little extra blurb to honor their achievements this season. And there's still quite a few regionals wrapping up, so some TBDs are sprinkled in, they'll get their own post in the responses once they get their final marching orders.
-George Mason: If only you could have avoided the sudden juggernaut that is #1 Wake Forest. Outscored 27-1 in your two losses to them... but at least you're not Maryland who gave up three TDs in their one brush with death. -TBD 2: Florida survives becoming the top LOL by beating Texas Tech in the return match, today's the rubber decider between the two teams. -TBD 3: TCU holds advantage after beating #3 Arkansas 20-5, the Razorbacks now need to dig deep and win two straight to advance. -Charlotte: A very honorable departure, any time we get to point and laugh at Clemson is a WIN for everyone. Godspeed you crazy bastards, as Tennessee was just better than you. -TBD 5: All the rain in Baton Rouge, we're just getting to the regional final now with #5 LSU holding advantage over Oregon State. Personally: DON'T BLOW IT. I WILL BE MERCILESS IF YOU DO. -Xavier: Another honorable departure as you took #6 Vanderbilt down in dramatic fashion, then just had nothing left in the tank for Oregon. So be it, head home with your heads held high. -East Carolina: Meh. Being down to #7 Virginia was a death sentence, one you couldn't even delay. Oh well. -TBD 8: Another rubber match as #8 Stanford avenges an earlier loss to Texas A&M, forcing the decider back to today. My apologies to the unfortunately named Ty Uber, as your teammates picked up your starting DUD (4 runs, 5 hits, 1 out) with interest. -#9 Miami: LOL. You needed two straight to advance, and started the first game well with a 3-0 lead over Texas. And then the third inning happened. Nine runs given up, and your season is OVER. Go into the LOL Corner for your sins, and tell Clemson and Vanderbilt to stop crying for fuck's sake. -TBD 10: #10 Coastal Carolina beats Duke in their first meeting, forcing a decider this afternoon. Would be one hell of a recovery from losing your opener to winning your home regional, just one win to go. As for Duke... nobody will feel bad for you if you lose. -Dallas Baptist: Helping humiliate #11 Oklahoma State is good, and helping Oral Roberts get the "regional sweep" is even funnier. Have an honorable trip home, don't feel too bad. -TBD 12: #12 Kentucky blows Indiana out 16-6... unfortunately it still only counts as one win, offsetting your earlier 5-3 loss to them. One more game for the regional title... -TBD 13: The two teams that combined to let us all laugh at #13 Auburn once more face off in a decider, Southern Miss with momentum after beating Penn 11-2 yesterday to avoid elimination. -Iowa: Eh, #14 Indiana State had your number both times. At least you did the same to North Carolina, I guess? -Campbell: Avenging your loss to NC State will have to suffice, #15 South Carolina had no interest in losing at home. At least you scored seven? -Boston College: #16 Alabama wasn't losing in Tuscaloosa, carry on. If only Nicholls State had won that opener...
-From 64 teams, we're down to 23. Seven more will be sent home... hopefully all today, if Mother Nature can get her irregular bladder under control. Sixteen will move, or have moved, one step closer to Omaha; all that stands between them and the College World Series in Omaha is a simple best of three this coming weekend.
Just remember the most important rule of the college baseball playoffs, same as every other playoff: DON'T! GET! ELIMINATED! Or do, we all need teams to point and laugh at.

2023.06.05 15:08 pringlydingly Passed the PANCE
Unpuckered and all good vibes now.
Stats:
- Average student, passed most of my tests with A's or B's, but my programs tests were NOT good prep for the PANCE. No EORs.
- Pre-clinical PACKRAT: 149
- No post-clinical PACKRAT
- PAEA EOC: 1580
- Didn't do any NCCPA Practice Tests
- ROSH Projected: 525
- PANCE: 482 (results came after 4 business days)
Study Strategy:
- Did 10-20 ROSH questions daily for the first few months of Clinical Year with light studying. Maybe a few dozen ANKI deck cards I downloaded from a reddit threat. Rarely touched PPP.
- Sprinkled in podcasts on topics I was weak on throughout the year: Cram the PANCE, Physician Assistant Exam Review, Spoonful of Sugar.
- Started reading through PPP halfway through clinical year, and maintaining the ROSH questions.
- 2 months before PANCE date, I used an 8-week PANCE study guide to help me focus my efforts. Studied PPP on those blueprint topics for 3-4 hours a night, followed by 50 ROSH questions, with a 200 question ROSH practice test at the end of the week on just that week's material. Link:
https://trello.com/b/3y2qJDbC/8-week-pance-study-plan - Last week of the study guide suggests daily 225 question ROSH practice tests to build stamina, but I felt I had already developed that and didn't want to get burnt out, so I only did 6 x 120-180 question blocks. I completed the entire ROSH question bank twice over, with an average 80% correct.
- PROS: My endurance felt great, I didn't get tired at all during the PANCE. I felt confident because I was scoring 10-15% above the national average per category on the ROSH questions. Gave me enough time to feel like I covered all the topics and got into the material better.
- CONS: I got really really good at taking ROSH questions, which are different from the PANCE, and that artificially inflated my predicted PANCE score, and that's why I'm a good 47 points below expected. 8 weeks is also a very long time frame, and I feel like I forgot some things over that time period. For me, any shorter would've burned me out, however. I wish I had read through PPP throughout clinical year, that would've allowed me to go through the books twice.
Personal Opinion on Difficulty of Each Test
- The majority of what I searched up to ease my anxiety was how hard the tests were in comparison to each other, so I'm going to give my own ranking. I know this can vary a lot, and many of my friends felt that the PANCE was harder or the EOC was harder or the PACKRAT was harder, so I'll just give my best explanations for my ranking.
1) PANCE: This was hands down the hardest test of PA school for me. There were a lot of frustrating questions where two answers could be JUST AS CORRECT as each other. Others had just barely enough description to lead you to an answer. ROSH gave A LOT more pathognomonic s/sx and buzzwords for certain conditions, which can be positive because you know the buzzwords by heart now, but bad because PANCE doesn't give you those. I finished each section with usually < 5 minutes to review the 15+ questions I flagged. All this said, there are different forms of the PANCE. Some of my classmates who took it on the same day as me felt like it was very easy, while the majority felt as I did. For everyone who is going to take it for the first time, assume it'll be harder.
2) PACKRAT: This was only a hard test because it was right after didactic, when nothing was solidified in your head, and you felt like the questions were bullshit. It tracks somewhat well with the PANCE in question style, but beyond that it's in reality not that bad of a test.
3) ROSH: Easier the more you do. But still some random bullshit, ultra-specific questions that literally only the question writer knows. I've read many posts saying that ROSH is harder than the PANCE, but I disagree. On a scale of 1-10 for difficulty, ROSH questions range from 2 - 10/10, with a lot more lower end questions. PANCE sits at a 4 - 9/10, they are all more difficult because they don't give you as many clues and it wears on your confidence because you aren't getting those easy ones.
4) PAEA EOC: This was the easiest test of the bunch for me, as with just ROSH and PPP prep, I was able to answer a majority of the questions with ease, and always finished with 10+ minutes. The only difficult part of this test was how long it was.
Day of the PANCE:
- I felt incredibly calm and even keel, got good sleep the night before. This is usually a bad sign for me because I then underestimate the test, and get frustrated when it has the audacity to be difficult and ruin my calm. Thinking back, I might have been a bit burnt out on tests and questions. ALSO, I didn't know this, but while you have 45 minutes of resting time TOTAL, you only have 3 windows to use this time, so plan wisely. This caught me off guard.
Results:
- Got it at the crack of dawn. There is a section that goes over the topics that you get wrong, and if each topic is a singular question, then I got 49 questions wrong total. 251/300 is an 84%, which fit in line with the ROSH practice tests I was taking.
Conclusion:
- The thing that is going to help you pass this test is discipline in however you choose to prepare for it.
- You need to have a source of quick information about the tests topics, with PPP being the most common and arguably best. UTD, school notes, and other sources are great, but they can be excessive for the scope of the PANCE.
- You need to have a source of practice questions that you go through ad nauseam. Advice given to me was to choose 1-2 sources of information and stick to those only, because things vary between info sources and you don't want to confuse yourself.
- Having a solid progression of studying amount and intensity helped me ease into it and not get burnt out, so try to be disciplined and don't cram at the end. 20 questions a day is not that hard to do, and it'll help you stay in the groove of info.
- This test, as hard as it may be, is designed for 90%+ people to pass it. You will pass it if 1) you are diligent and put in good effort for studying (which you have been), 2) you don't let your anxiety get the better of you (I'm convinced the majority of those who don't pass first time are too anxious, rather than don't know enough), and 3) take care of yourself and have faith in the process.
Best of luck!

2023.06.05 15:05 sharifsami Badly in need of everyone's suggestions!
Badly in need of everyone's suggestions! Hey, I'm Sami (22) years old. I started losing hair when I was 20 and then shaved my hair since my hair fall was frightening. But the worse thing was when I grew new hairs after shaving my head, the hairs were a lot thinner. And eventually, after 5-6 months, The hair fall started again.
Then I went for topical 5%! Used it for almost 9-10 months. Now here's the thing!
After the 1st four months, the improvements were significant, but after 7-8 months later time frame I was shedding a lot.
Also, I saw some drawbacks, mostly sexual health-related (mostly PE). So, I decided to quit. And as it was bound to happen, I've lost most of the hairs that came along with minoxidil. It's been almost 5 months I've stopped using it.
Now Questions: - I'm thinking of shaving again, will it help?
- Should I start Minox all over again?
- I had seen a dermatologist, and she suggested PRP, should I take it?
Note: I've used Splendora 5%, Nizoder ( 2% ketokenozol), Taken some biotins occasionally, and Derma roller once or twice a week!

2023.06.05 15:00 dreemcos Extreme regret over buying a house with issues
My husband and I recently bought a house and I am absolutely beside myself with regret. Please do not reply that we shouldn't have bought this house, I already know that and the regret I have is debilitating to the point that I feel I need to get psychological help and prescribed medication just to function as a human being and go to my job. The house has sloping floors which I barely noticed when we saw the house (had rosy colored glasses on because I was excited to buy and make something our own). It had been on the market for a while (initially had been priced super high) and was in the perfect location for what we wanted. Inspection went okay, he pointed out the sloping floors (which are literally everywhere) and that the crawl space was very low (8-10 inches) but that it was common. He recommended we have a contractor look at the floors to give an estimate to level the sloping and then factor that in to our decision to move forward, which came back at ~$5K (he said it would be ballpark $ just so we'd have something to show the sellers to try to negotiate). I had asked the inspector if we should hire a structural engineer but he said a general contractor could do it just fine. Now that we're in the house, the floor sloping is extreme. It basically feels like I'm taking a step down to go into the bathroom and the utility room in the back has a 2-3 inch gap between the floor and the wall because of the sloping. To add to it, there is no attic access so the inspector was not able to inspect that (huge red flag, I know now). It was an investor flip and I should have ran from the first time we saw it but the location was ideal and we liked certain aspects. The contractor who originally gave us the quote to fix the floors didn't know how small the crawl space was so now can't do that work and said we'd need to have tunnels dug up in the crawl space or pull up the floors to fix it from above. I'm including pictures from the inspection for reference. There's some cracks which I included too, inspector said it was cosmetic and wasn't concerned.
It appraised for the price we bought it at and with the inspector basically saying all houses have their issues, we felt comfortable moving forward. It is without a doubt the biggest mistake I've ever made and I have no idea why we bought it. It doesn't help that we don't have any prior experiencing buying. Something about the way I was feeling before we closed felt like regret/dread but I chalked it up to cold feet and was just was going off what I knew and thinking $5K wasn't worth it to walk away.
At this point, I have no idea what to do or who to talk to about attempting to salvage it. I'd be more than willing to take whatever loss on it to just sell it and get out, but know there's no way we'd be able to sell it given all these issues and the fact that we literally just bought it 3 months ago.
I'm willing to do whatever I have to do to fix it but I just don't even know where to start. I'm so beside myself with grief/regret and wish I could go back in time and not buy this house. Please please any advice on how to help us get through this is recommended. I also hope this serves as a warning to everyone out there to trust your gut and walk away if something doesn't feel right about a home purchase. I really wish I did but it's too late now.

~ General Recommendations (All Consoles) For Anyone Who Can't Decide ~
First off, I won't recommend big or famous games like Final Fantasy or Persona, this is more for lesser know, hidden gems, or just games where it's hard to find someone talking about them.
[Valkyria Chronicles]
[Valkyria Chronicles 4]
This one is really hard to explain through words alone, but just in case, the VC series is a World War 2 military setting story, where you act as the lead of a squad and take mission to drive back the enemy. The story is drama heavy and the gameplay is tactical turn-based, but it's mixed with real-time third person shooter.
You can also make your own army by recruiting different types of solders, training them and upgrading their gear. From rifles to tanks, this is a game you have to experience to understand.
[Wild Arms 1 & 2]
Great classics, and are now sold for dirt cheap, though even their full price is also a steal. If you're looking for great stories, and really interesting characters, combined with truly great puzzles, then don't miss on these 2 games. They started an entire series, and are classics for a reason.
[Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth: Complete Edition]
2 full games in 1. If you're a fan of the series then this is a must play, it dives into the lore more than a lot of the previous games, and also has one of the biggest Digimon rosters till to day.
Even if you're not into the Digimon series, if you're looking for your next fix of Capture/Evolve/Fusion -> Grind -> Capture/Evolve/Fusion -> Grind while you listen to your favorite podcast/music, then no need to wait anymore, with hours upon hours you can easily spend just grinding and completing the game's various content from side-quests, rare monsters, arena, and even tamer team fights. The gameplay is simple, which is a great way to keep your brain off, yet it still has challenge battles now and then to make sure you're doing your job grinding and raising your Digimons.
[ASTLIBRA Revision]
If you are still itching for side-scroller action JRPGs with a good loot system and a good story and world that you can sink your teeth into, then look no further. A game that was 14 years in development and an extra year to work on this remastered version, was more than worth it. The action is meaty and satisfying, the loot is great with each item having the potential of changing your fighting style, and just so much content to explore and have fun with.
Then you add to that fantastic art work by Shigatake of Vanillaware, he worked on games like Odin Sphere, GrimGrimoire, Muramasa: The Demon Blade and others. Then you finally throw in a huge amazing soundtrack, and when I say huge I mean HUGE. With all of that together you have a really great title that any action JRPG fan shouldn't miss.
[Atelier Ryza]
Ryza can be considered a big turning point for the series, mainly because it threw out a lot of old gameplay and story elements that were trademarks of the Atelier series. For starters, the entire sub-series is about Ryza and her friends, instead of the usual way where each title in the sub-series had a different main character. Then as you have noticed, it doesn't use time limits, nor does it have multiple endings. Then add the fact that the battle system switched from turn-based like it was in the entire series until now, to now being Active Time Battle system. Finally, while the Alchemy mechanics always changed between sub-series and games, Ryza has the biggest change in crafting mechanics since Atelier Shallie.
All of these changes, plus being a game with almost no fan-service and the one with good graphics, animations, and so many new different methods being added in how you gather resources, makes it a great starting point for someone who wants to dip their toe into the series and be see if it's something they might like.
[Utawarerumono] series
This fantastic visual novel style tactical game is one hell of a ride from start to end. If you're looking for a fantasy JRPG with amazing world building and an epic of story that expands three whole games, there is no reason to not get this whole series. Drama, Comedy, Mystery, Action, Horror, Fan-service, Betrayal, Revenge, Adventure, etc... This is the whole package here when it comes to story, world, and characters. Just don't expect it to be heavy on gameplay and combat.
Prelude to the Fallen is the first game story-wise, the 2nd game is Utawarerumono: Mask of Deception and after that is Utawarerumono: Mask of Truth.
[Rune Factory 4 Special]
Don't even think too long about it, a fantastic game and a great port too, so much you play it easily with mouse and keyboard or controller.
The characters are fun and lovable, the story is interesting, and most of all, the loop is very varied and enjoyable. So much to do:
- Farming
- Cooking
- Monster Collection and Raising
- Dating and Marriage
- Dungeon Crawling
- Blacksmithing and a deep weapon upgrading system
- Fishing
- Festivals
- Town Management
- House decorating
- Resource gathering
- Monster Mounts
- Mastering different weapon styles
- Mastering Magic
And so much more. Not to mention that everything you do has a level and so no matter what you spend the day doing, you'll always be leveling something and getting better.
Do you want a game where you can cook horrible burnt food, then take said food and use it as a weapon to beat bosses, and even have said bosses then till your farm and water your crops while you're out riding cows and fighting giant chickens the same time you're on date with your favorite NPC ? Then yea, RF4 got you covered. The only thing you'll miss, is sleep while playing this gem.
As always, please do add your own recommendations, and let me know if there is mistake or if something was missing, and have a nice day.
