2023.06.05 20:36 LauraMJJ88 How to stop lipstick rubbing off lower lip?!

I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong but for the last few years I have been unable to wear dark lipstick as it appears the inside of my lip is really far forward and any type of lipstick rubs off it instantly, leaving with me with a noticeable line. I’ve tried fully relaxing my lips to make sure it’s not me subconsciously pushing it forward and it’s still the same. I’ve tried seemingly everything, lip liner all over, different types of lipsticks, matte, gloss etc. But nothing works 😩 does anyone have any tips?!

all of my makeup minus foundation swatched on paper
I swatched all of my makeup on an index card back and keep it beside my products. It also reminds me somewhat that my lip products are all very similar haha. Photo taken in window light.

2023.06.05 19:22 bereginya_ A small success

I have struggled with accumulating excessive amounts of makeup products for a few years now. At some point I have decluttered a lot and donated to friends and family over the years. However I have then ended up reacquiring too many products that I will probably be forced to throw away at some point because even if I stick to what I have I won’t be able to finish all of them up. My biggest problem is with lip products. I am always chasing that perfect shade of pink for my fair complexion (I am a light summer). Last autumn I ended up buying six similar lipsticks when I realised I was soon going to pan my favorite lipstick, which has sadly been discontinued. None of those turned out to be just as good as the discontinued one. After buying several high end products I banned myself from purchasing any lip products that aren’t lip balms and so far I have stuck to my no buy. However lately I have been craving some new lip gloss after my mum bought a very nice one for herself. Today I was purchasing some necessities for my dog on Amazon and saw that one drugstore lip gloss was on offer. Without thinking I put it in my cart, but then stopped, reflected a bit and deleted it. Initially I thought it was a cheap gloss and it wouldn’t make much of a difference to my order, but the more I thought about it the more I realised buying it would have been a mistake because I wouldn’t be able to swatch it in person and I already have more than enough similar products. I then forced myself to try on and swatch my similar products and realised I really didn’t need it, because it would have been a dupe of a gloss I already have and haven’t been using for a few months. I am trying my best to be less wasteful and appreciate what I already have. I have a selection of my favourite products that I use daily and rotate my lipsticks to figure out which ones I gravitate towards the most. Do you have any other techniques to avoid impulse buys?

2023.06.05 16:28 cravewing YouTubers/Influencers with NW40 skin tone?

I just got shade matched today at my local drugstore, and the consultant matched me to NW40. I also got a small sample of it and I'm trialling it, but it does seem to blend seamlessly into my skin.
I took a look around YouTube and it feels like everything is catered towards NC shades with hardly anyone sporting NW tones. All the Indian YTers I follow are also in the NC range, and this might have contributed to the fact that I've struggled to find base and lip makeup that I enjoy.
Does anyone have any recommendations for people to follow for swatches and reviews in the shade NW40?

3 months of empties
Makeup
Marc Jacobs bronzer in 104 Tantastic: great winter shade for fair cool-toned skin. Would repurchase
W7 Micro Matte Fix Special FX Flawless Face powder in Light: bought this as a setting powder, but it has a lot of coverage so best used as a powder foundation. Looks lovely on the skin, stops me getting too shiny. Would repurchase
Seventeen Miracle Matte Pressed Powder in Ivory Porcelain: decent affordable setting powder, nothing special but nothing to complain about. Would repurchase
Rimmel Vinyl Jelly Gloss lip liner in 010 Tasty: this is the stupidest product ever, I don't know why I didn't just declutter it. It is essentially a glossy lipbalm in a wooden pencil. The product is very soft and melty so you can't sharpen it without gunking up the sharpener. It melts very quickly into the lips so it needs sharpening pretty much every use, and if you misjudge it you end up scraping your lips with the sharp pencilly bits. It's not a good lipliner because it smudges everywhere and does absolutely nothing to stop lipstick bleeding or define your lip line. Using it made me angry at every person involved in its development and production. Would not repurchase.
Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturiser Oil Free in shade 2C1 Blush: claims to be oil free but I get so shiny so quickly in this, and it oxidises really badly on me. Would not repurchase
Maybelline Sky High Mascara: some days this looks really good on me and other days I just don't seem to be able to apply it right. When it works out it is amazing though. Would repurchase
Skin and nails
Clean and Clear Dual Action Moisturiser: love this for summer, it's not too heavy at all and has a nice cooling affect. Would repurchase
Revolution Niacinamide and zinc serum: the only product that helps with my massive pores. Doesn't pill up and cooperates with other products applied beneath and on top. Would repurchase
Clean and Clear Deep Cleansing lotion: brilliant for making my oily skin feel squeaky clean and clearing out any clogged pores. Would repurchase
Nivea Soft Moisturising Cream: great all purpose moisturiser for all over, always take it travelling. Provides good hydration and soaks in well without being greasy. Would repurchase
Nivea Sun Shine Control SPF 50 face cream: my deafult face sunscreen for the summer, I think its "Shine Control" claim is slightly overstated but all SPFs go a bit shiny and it does act as a reasonable primer for makeup. Would repurchase
Simple Glow Facial Wash: I just didn't think this did a very good job of cleaning my face, even if I had a couple of goes with it. Would not repurchase
Nip+Fab Glycolic Fix Scrub: this does a very thorough job of cleaning your face, really appreciated how smooth and soft my skin was afterwards although it is a bit stingy when it's on. Would repurchase
L'Oréal Recitalist Last Renew Night cream: I don't like the smell and it leaves a weird film on my skin. Does make my skin feel nice in the morning though. Would not repurchase
Essie Expressie polish in 340 Air Dry: love this colour, dries fast, one coat is sufficient, the long tall bottle shape makes it easy to use even when there's not much product left. Would repurchase
Elegant Touch Quick Dry nail spray: no idea how this works but it speeds up nail drying so fast for me, not sure what I'd do without it anymore. Would repurchase

2023.06.05 11:55 mellowmadre Carry-On only for Business Travel

I travel a lot for work and cannot afford to lose a checked bag, so I only do carry-on. This means I need to pack both casual and business attire, which can be challenging. It has taken some practice and watching a lot of Youtube videos on packing, but I am getting close to what works for me. I'd appreciate any advice you have. The bag is a bit on the heavy side but still within the airline’s limits and I’m able to lift it into the overhead bins on my own. Below is what I packed for a 10-day trip.
THE BAGS:
Carry-on luggage by Sigg – it is a discontinued brand but I love it. The 2-wheeled bag is a super tough (ballistic nylon) exterior with a compression zipper, telescoping handle, and a zipped water bottle holder on the outside. Normally, I’m a spinner luggage kind-of-gal, but the 2 wheels on this bag can be pushed somewhat like a spinner rather than dragged like most 2-wheeled bags. It also has a couple outer zipped areas for a laptop, pens, thin papers, etc). On the inside it is split in two major compartments, with the base fully lined with waterproof nylon that opens with zipper (I keep my garment bag under the liner just in case there are any spills in or around my bag), built-in compression straps, a mesh center divider for underclothes, and one side with elastic shoe sleeve pockets. There are a couple smaller pockets along the edges of the bag interior, including one thin waterproof one.
Personal Item by BagSmart (a Nomadlane dupe), fits under the seat in front of you and opens up fully like a suitcase. 2 main compartments and two additional exterior pockets which is handy but there are features of this bag I don’t like, such as the trolley sleeve and waterbottle sleeve—both are too tight to be useful. But it is a fraction of the cost of the Nomadlane bag, so it will work for now.
2 generic medium sized packing cubes / 1 medium toiletries bag / 1 jewelry case / 1 clear quart liquids bag with a zipper / 2 smaller sorting bags (reusing free business class toiletry bags) / 1 laundry bag / 1 ziploc bag / 1 thin cloth folding garment bag (feels like reusable grocery bag material) / 1 purse

THE STRATEGY:
Maintain normal business appearance but minimize by wearing neutrals and all within the same color palette. Buy travel sizes of almost everything, organize by dividing items into smaller containers by type and time of usage (on the plane vs in the hotel room vs at work vs out touring); Economize space by bringing fewer bulky items by using the hotel’s hairdryer, steaming my business clothes in the bathroom while I shower or use the hotel’s iron, have shoes and clothes that are versatile for several outfits but also reuse/wash (in the sink) clothes as necessary. Try to get a workout in when possible.

CLOTHES: (folded in Marie Kondo style or hung in the garment bag, which is folded in half)
In the packing cubes:
2 cardigans
3 t-shirts (one worn on the plane)
1 pair of yoga pants
2 jeans (one worn on the plane)
2 slip skirts
1 pair of capri pants
1 pair of silk pajamas
1 casual dress (with folded items in packing cube)

In the compartments built into the suitcase:
2 sports bras
11 pairs of underwear
1 pair of wool socks
2 pair of sport socks
1 full-body Spanx
1 slimming camisole
1 one-piece swimsuit
1 pantyhose
3 underwire bras (one worn on the plane)
3 pairs of shoes—sandals, flats and one pair of sneakers worn on the plane

In the garment bag:
6 thin blouses (includes 1 button down)
1 black suit with 1 blazer, 2 pants and 1 skirt
1 khaki dress pants

In the personal item:
1 R1 Patagonia full zip hoodie (worn on the plane)
1 Longchamp foldable Le Pliage Shopping purse – serves as my work laptop bag and my purse
1 pair of compression socks

TOILETRIES AND MAKEUP
I divide these into two major categories – on the plane and at the hotel. For on the plane, I use 2 small bags which are kept in my personal item-- one for liquids and another for anything else I need without needing to get into my carry-on suitcase.
1 pack of gum
1 face mist
2 lip balms
4+ lipsticks and glosses
1 Tyme hair iron
1 eyeshadow palette
1 bareminerals foundation powder
Powder, eyebrow, eyeshadow, lip and blush brushes
Several pairs of contact lenses and carrying case with solution
2 Razor
1 Foot callus file
2 Fingernail file
2-3 Eyeliners
2 Lip Liners
2 Pencil Sharpeners
1 Deodorant
1 Lint Roller
Sample creams
Tretinoin in 2 strengths (face and neck)
Vaseline (so versatile – takes off makeup, moisturizes, slugs)
Ibuprofen, Benadryl, Bandaids, Neosporin, sleep aid for the plane
Toothbrush, floss, plackers/picks, mouthwash and toothpaste
Cerave AM and Under Eye Cream
1 Dermaplaner

Lactic Acid exfoliator for face
Hair Bun Maker
Deep Conditioner and Shampoo
Travel Hairspray
Bobby Pins
Visine
QTips

2023.06.05 10:52 me-meow How do I feel more comfortable without makeup?

I’ve been on HRT for 2 and a half years now, and I feel my face has seen little to no results. I pretty much have to put on heavy makeup any time I go in public, otherwise I get weird looks from people and I can tell I just don’t make the cut.
The problem is, unless I’m doing the whole deal with the winged liner and overdrawn lips, I do not look passable at all. This look isn’t for every occasion, I feel silly when I’m hanging with a group of girls casually and I’m the only one in makeup. That, or situations where I’m just not able to put any on, how do I deal with this? I don’t want to go the route of just hiding behind a face mask, I feel like that’s super unhealthy for my confidence… Outside of unaffordable FFS I have no idea what to do… any thoughts?

Moira cosmetics has such pretty shades of lip liner but I’m looking for a brand that stays on really well.

2023.06.05 06:18 whu3t Is this line under my bottom lip melasma?

Is this line under my bottom lip melasma?
I used to have melasma above my upper lip and on my cheeks. Now I don’t really get that as much anymore (switched birth control) but I have this dark “lip liner” just below my lower lip and a little on the top. I’m not sure if it’s melasma or something else, but it does worsen in the sun and my lips burn easily for some reason (even with sunscreen chapstick). I’m 39 and this is new this year, fwiw.

Peripera ink mood glowy tint
Little swatch and review of Peripera ink mood glowy tint in brown heaven. The ink mood glowy tint is def one of my favorites from Peripera. It feels like a balmy gloss but not sticky, has good color payoff, and a nice shine. It smells like caramel too. Brown heaven looks like a beige brown on my skin but pinky brown on my lips. I feel it can suit both warm and cool skin tones.
