Hi everyone,
I recently bought a PC from a friend and wanted to factory reset it to start fresh. However, I ran into a problem when the wipe hit around 6% - it would stop and display "undoing changes" before returning to the login screen. When I tried to log in after this, I received an error message that read "the user profile service failed the sign in user cannot be loaded." I initially thought because I was messing with the 2nd monitor and it was plugged in during the initial factory reset, but this problem persists even when it's unplugged.
I tried restarting in safe mode and creating a new user, but I might have done it wrong because I couldn't use the new user I created in the login screen. I also tried resetting the PC by holding down the shift key and accessing the advanced options menu and selecting both the delete my files, apps and clean drive aswell as the other option, but nothing seemed to work, the same problem persists.
I'm completely stuck and don't know what to do next. Has anyone else experienced similar issues or have any advice on how I can fix this problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I work in a Cafeteria at a school and I am able to collect Unemployment over the Summer. About a month ago I applied for another job and I have received a tentative offer for it, but it seems like I will receive a firm offer when my fingerprints and background come back ( I know they will come back clean). If I were to file for Unemployment over the Summer would I have to pay it back if I were to not return to that job? As of right now, I do intend on coming back to that job on my set return date as I have not received a firm offer of employment and I most likely wouldn't start that job until late into August/early September when I'll already have returned to work technically because of meetings and training.

That promises you a better life, that promises to love you, to take care of you and not let anyone hurt you. And you believe it. Because this man, even though you are 12 years old and he is in his late 30's, has treated you better than anyone in your life. So, you do whatever he says, and what he says is that at 12 you will start to work in the strip clubs, you will strip, and you will have sex with several adult men every night for months. You will be drugged, forced to drink, and forced to engage in sexual acts you didn't even know existed. But still, you believe he loves you; you will believe this 30 some year­ old man is your boyfriend and your protector, and you will do whatever he says. Imagine that was you, or your daughter, your niece, your son, your friend, your co-worker. How do we expect them to lead a healthy productive life after this? This story is real and is one of the many I have heard during my years of working with juvenile victims of human trafficking. Far too often when we look at a juvenile similar to the one, I just described, prior to the law enforcement identifying her as a victim, this child was a "just." She was "just into older guys" "Just too promiscuous" "just a child that didn't listen to her parents" that "just didn't follow rules" and "just a drug addict." She was just none of those things, in fact she was an abused child that made the perfect victim. Traffickers prey on children just like this one, they seek out the vulnerable, the ones that have been abused prior, who may not speak English well, who may have mental illnesses or other delays, and who they know they can gain control over. Now imagine that this 12-year-old, never gets help, she never receives treatment and is never identified as what she truly is, a victim. This world becomes all she knows, this is how she survives, this is how she makes her money, how she has shelter over her head some nights, how some nights she is able to eat, and take a shower. And she then eventually moves on, and a new trafficker picks her up, this one is more abusive, this one threatens her with a gun, and makes sure she knows this is not a choice. She spends her 21st birthday at the Mote 6 as he controls her with the drugs, he forces her to do, he shoots her up with heroine and forces her into withdrawals when she doesn't make her quota. He has the control, maybe she forgets for a second, so he brands her with his name across her neck to remind her of who she belongs to, this world, and him. And she believes this, she believes this is her life, all she will ever have, and she has no way out. These women and men and children, build their survival tool kit, their skills that keep them alive. They use drugs to numb the pain, just like we use Tylenol to numb ours, they steal so they can eat, they lie so they don't go to jail, and they manipulate, just like they have been manipulated, but these skills, these skills keep them alive.
So I'll ask again, how do we expect them to live a normal life? When we see a woman in sexualized clothing on the street, or a drug addict on the side of the road, or someone begging for money, what are our first thoughts? They should get a job, it's not your fault they are drug addicts, this is their fault...
But really, who's fault, is it? The three-year-old that was raped as a child, beaten by her father, and trafficked by an adult? These victims have been cut off from all resources to get the help they desperately need. Currently I have 17 children victims from the state of VA, that all have similar stories, and there are so many unidentified victims out there that need our help. And that is often the most difficult part. They don't know they need our help because they don't know they are victims. They believe they are in love, this is their boyfriend, their husband, and they are trained to remain loyal and distrust us. When law enforcement and victim advocates make attempts, we are not always successful, there is such a high recidivism rate, because of the level of trauma. When we are able to reach a victim, the road ahead is long and hard. I didn't even know I needed Safe Harbor, or that Safe Harbor needed me until January of this year. Cathy came to me and asked me to work for Safe Harbor and my exact words were "I don't do adults; I only work with children." At that time, I was looking for a new position but didn't want to abandon the juvenile victims I had been working with for the last two years. Cathy told me that I could continue my services at Safe.H_arbor with all of my girls. That day was the start of my new journey, my new journey with adults, and Safe Harbor's new journey with juvenile victims. Safe Harbor provides so many needed services to these victims on their journey to survivors. They need our counseling department that teaches them coping skills, that help them learn how to identify abuse. They need our court advocacy program that supports them in scary situations, so they do not feel alone. They need our volunteers who give their time, and areas of expertise, they need every staff member that contributes to their survival, and they desperately need you. Just got laid off from my last 1099 job, it was hell anyway and the truck owner didn't get his second truck like he wanted so I am laid off. Of course, he waits until the end of my home time to tell me. I am looking to run miles and stay out with me and my gf. Clean record around 6 months or so of experience. Biggest thing is starting ASAP less than a week if possible. Pay can be discussed, but you scratch my back I go the extra mile for you.

It appears that my browser (Brave) breaks when I don't close it "in a clean way". I mean that on new login, the pages don't load well anymore, the display is completely broken. I've checked it's not a chache problem, and the only way to get it back to normal I found is to erase everything in Brave's ~/.config directory. That's a pain, because I have to recreate sync, reopen all my tabs, sometimes reload my extensions... You get it.
So to avoid this, I have to exit Brave through the GUI, (burger menu of Brave). But I tend to forget, so I'd like to automate this. I want to create a script or an alias that closes Brave (cleanly) before rebooting (I usually reboot with a sudo reboot, which might not be the right way?).
But for this I need to know what command to use. I'm not 100% sure but I think pkill brave also breaks it, so I don't want to use that. Ideas, anyone?

I have been employed at this factory for 2.5 years now (non union). We bring in temps from a staffing agency, then after 90 days we either hire them on or let them go. It is constantly short staffed due to a high turnover rate and just about weekly you see a new face or faces.
A few days ago I had to ask a temp that had been there two weeks, not to take break on the forktruck and to turn the music down. He had connected his phone to the radio in the forktruck and had rap music blaring, sounding like it was about to blow the speakers. In retrospect maybe I should have just let it go, but I use the truck as well as others and don’t want the speakers blown by anyone, much less by a guy who most likely won’t be there very long.
So, I went to the lead who was sitting there. I asked him to go tell the guy who he was training to turn it down. The lead (who isn’t a lead in anything but a title) said no that he wasn’t walking over there. I’ll admit; this temp had a tough look about him. His walk, his face tattoos, his whole demeanor screamed trouble, but I went anyway and asked him to turn it down and explained why. He immediately got mad and said, “Who the F*** are you?? Your not my boss so idgaf.” I replied with something along the lines of, “Is that right? Ok, we’ll see how much of a f you give.” He jumped off the forktruck and got in my face. He was cussing and threatening me and I just kept telling him that I was not going to fight him, especially not at work. I have a family that depends on my income. It wasn’t even an option. So I backed away then turned and went on to break inside.
20 minutes or so had passed and I was thinking he’d calm down and it was over, and I began to heat up my dinner and get my drink, etc. I looked up to see him walking into the break room, he was staring straight at me and then walked right up to my face. He kept saying “do something” and I kept replying thst I wasn’t fighting at work. I made the mistake of turning my back to him to leave the break room. When I did he swung a metal water thermos over his head and cracked the back of my head with it. I was seeing stars. It gashed my ear open so there was a lot of blood (that freaked me out) and left a huge pump knot on my head. He immediately started punching me in the face and head, so I tried to just wrap him up to stop the punches from landing. He ended up on top of me, punching me over and over. What seemed to me like a lifetime later a couple guys tried to drag him off of me, and when they did he kicked me in the nose first and then in the forehead, with steel toe boots. I was far from coherent after that. There were two witnesses in the room when it happened and a handful more when they were pulling him off of me. All wrote statements saying I didn’t fight back.
So they took him somewhere else and sat me down to look at the damage. No hr was there or safety so a supervisor tried to clean my ear with alcohol pad to see the cuts, eventually sending me into the bathroom to wash my face and head off so he could see how bad it was. I had a ton of blood on me. They handed me a pen and had me write what happened, had the witnesses do the same. All the stories said that I was attacked , didn’t fight back or anything. The dept head put a bandaid over my ear to try and stop the bleeding. Pretty much taped my ear. My nose stopped on its own.
Then they sent ME home. I ride a Harley to work. They know that. The next day hr asked me to come in so safety could check my damage and they asked my story again. It was like an interrogation. And no cops were called either, btw. They said they couldn’t tell me if I was fire or if I still had my job until the investigation was over. It has been four days now and they still haven’t told me.
On the second day my migraine got much worse. I called them and told them I needed to go to the dr. The safety person met me at the dr, to do all the workers comp paperwork etc. Dr said concussion. Referred me for a cat scan. Dr there said my brain looked ok and all my facial structure is ok. But is treating me for concussion. The er called the cops to report the assault. Even the cop was shocked by the fact that hr had me suspended pending investigation still. He even said given the evidence I shouldn’t have anything to worry about. He said that to the safety lady from work. So I was sent home again, now with a documented concussion from the incident.
I feel like my job has done me really dirty. It felt like they were just looking for an excuse to blame me for his actions and to fire me as well. I feel like they severely mishandled the situation. They should have called the police when it happened, and they damn sure should have called me an ambulance instead of putting me on my motorcycle and waving bye. I’m scared of losing my income. So I’m wondering what steps I should take if they do fire me, would I have any legal grounds to object on or file on? Please help with advice, I really need it. Thank you all.

Hello,
This is what happened to me recently. We started a hobby with my son and bought a few bikes on Facebook. We wanted to fix them, clean them and then sell them again on Facebook. After we did this for a week or two, police came to our house and told us one of the bikes we had posted on facebook had been reported stolen. They asked whether they can check our garage and i said yes of course. They checked our garage and took the serial numbers of the few bikes we had all of which did not appear to be reported. We have already sold the bike they are looking for at this point. Without questioning, I did what they told me and found out the person I sold this bike that was reported stolen. I gave the person whatever he paid me for the bike, and i immediately returned the bike to the police who thanked me for my cooperation. That was the last time i heard from them. However, after this I felt so bad and blamed myself as I never thought bike theft were so common. What something started as fun hubby with my son turned into this undesirable situation. I immediately stopped and found different hobbies. My question is in this situation am I detained or just questioned by the police? If a potential employer or the government runs a background on me will this be visible? In general, this is the first time this happened to me and I am not sure what i am into.

I am writing a web app and I want to set up a system where, when a user changes their email, it gives them a link to have the change revert back. The purpose of this is for when a hacker changes an account email. In this case the user can't log in without it being reverted. Login is email + password.
I need to handle a hacker doing multiple changes trying to use up a revert list. And I don't want the ability to revert by just entering an email as that would allow major mischief by hackers. So I came up with the following. Will this work? Is there a better approach?
On an email change, I create a GUID and then save in the DB the GUID, old email, and old password hash. The email sent to them lists the change and says to revert click the link. The link has the GUID in it. Upon receiving that link, it reverts back to the previous email & password hash. If possible (I'm using Blazor server), it will log out any other sessions for this user. Should I then force them to use 2FA? Nightly clean-up will delete any revert records that are over a month old. Will this work? Any security holes?

Title says it all. I am an HR Manager for a company that employs roughly 500 associates.
Originally when I came on to this job a few weeks ago, I was reporting to the Director of Finance, who was handling all the HR related processing since their HR coordinator quit 8 months prior. They have never had a formal HR presence. I sensed almost immediately that the director felt threatened, as she would not release access/logins to HR platforms I require to do my job.
For example, she did not want to give me access to our payroll/HRIS to run turnover reports...she would manually send me an excel spreadsheet with all the information missing besides the name and term date..
However, the company is going through a complete overhaul. Folks with 18+ years of tenure have given their notice upon the news of my arrival as well as a new CEO.
The new CEO expressed my first day that I should report to him, and I agree 100%. After the new CEO shared this information with the director, they pushed back but couldn't give a reason why this should live with her team.
I was informed shortly after that effective immediately, I am to report to the CEO. That same afternoon, the director calls me into her office and confidently states we will do a temporary "dual reporting" structure for the next 90 days, then I am to report directly to her again.
I immediately call the CEO out of confusion. What is going on here?! He shares the same confusion, as she had accepted the change and was in agreement just a few hours before.
Fast forward to multiple conversations between the former CEO with the director - she sends out an email stating that HR tasks will be transferred by August 31st of this year. (She did not consult me or the new CEO)
She then comes to my desk and states this is an arbitrary date, and we don't ever need to pass on these tasks if I am not comfortable/overwhelmed. I explain that this timeline is more than reasonable, but I think we can transfer duties within the next 30 days.
The next day, I start processing requests that are coming through to the shared HR inbox. (Director is the only other person with access) She completely flips her lid and asks for a meeting with me and yells "WHAT DID YOU NOT UNDERSTAND ABOUT THE EMAIL I SENT YESTERDAY?!"
I said I am confused, is the expectation that I am not to process HR related inquiries in my HR MANAGER role?? She responds that my focus is on overhauling onboarding and I am not to touch the HR inbox. I said I'm uncomfortable discussing this without the two CEOS, who ultimately need to decide what my role is here. If that is the directive, it needs to come from them. I added that this conversation is escalating and there is obvious friction that can't be solved without the two other parties involved.
Am I missing something?? Questions, concerns, and curse words have been consuming my brain the last 24 hours. I JUST accepted this job, and I have been in a similar situation so I don't feel confident that I will be able to work in this environment.
It is probably important to note that the director has been with the org for the last few years, without an on-site leadership presence (former CEO is out of state) and she has been acting as their right hand for the entirety of her service here. New HR, taking a chunk of her workload. New CEO, changing the company structure. I am sure it is a weird feeling. But also, she has expressed she has too much on her plate, and this is why I was brought on. So we can divide and conquer based on our experience/expertise.
Typically, it would not bother me who I am reporting to, as long as I have autonomy in my role. However, this director shares confidential information to lower ranking associates and it spreads like wildfire. In my opinion they have no business any where near HR.

I recently moved to Idaho from Oregon and was shocked to learn when I got a local job that it is not required to give breaks here. Oregon legally requires employers to give us set breaks and half hour lunches which I was used to. So to my surprise when I started my new job and asked about breaks everyone was surprised. I was told “you take them when you can, but when you’re on break you should keep busy like sweep or pick up.” Which made me laugh because that’s not a break that’s continued working. For “lunch” we go and stand in the back by cleaning supplies and eat for 3-5 minutes before being called back up front. The entire work building doesn’t have anyplace to sit down at all. Next week I’m supposed to work four eight hour shifts working outside in 80-90 degree weather with absolutely no breaks and I will 100% not be doing that. So at the start of the week I will be quitting. I was grateful to find a job and get paid but there was no way I was going to put myself in those conditions. I got covid 3 times while vaccinated due to a prior workplaces lack of precautions and it left me weaker than I’ve ever been in my life. Since then I’ve had to take better care of my body. I worked a shift yesterday for 9 hours and did not get to sit down once or break from work for more than 5 minutes and almost passed out. I am genuinely shocked how no one else there was mad about this or said anything.

Rule #1: Sneakers from Weidian, TaoBao only
This one should be self-explanatory - QCs for shoes purchased from middlemen are not allowed on this sub. I understand that many users value the input from members in this subreddit specifically due to their reputation and credibility, but we want to keep this sub as pure to its purpose as possible. If there are specific people from whom you want input from, feel free to post in the other rep subs and tag them.
Additionally, when users ask for recommendations on where to purchase, make sure to provide links to Weidian or TaoBao stores, and not middlemen. Middlemen sell Weidian/TaoBao products at a markup for convenience - always focus on the actual product.
Rule #2: QC Post Title Guidelines: [QC] {Price in Yuan} {Batch} {Shoe Name} from {Seller Name}
When posting your QCs or Finds, use the following format: [QC] {Price in Yuan} {Batch} {Shoe Name} from {Seller Name}. Example: [QC] 400¥ FK Batch Travis Scott x Jordan 1 High OG Mocha from A GDJ Supplier
The Group Automod comments on every single post in this group with a reminder of this title format. If your title does not include each of the necessary components in the brackets above, please be proactive and repost with the correct format. If you don’t delete the post, a moderator will, and that or repeated infractions may result in a temporary ban from the group. This rule exists to ensure the group is easily searchable to help make researching batches on your own as streamlined as possible.
Rule #3: QC Posts need W2C Link:
If you are posting a QC, make sure to post the W2C link. If the listing link is dead, please post the link to the store where the shoe was purchased instead. No W2C link will result in the deletion of your post!
You are welcome to post Weidian links, TaoBao links, or links from any shipping agent except for PandaBuy, given that PandaBuy forces you to login to see the item, whereas the other agent links do not. Linking a PandaBuy link and not an alternative link will result in the deletion of your post.
Rule #4: Help Me Find Post Title Guidelines: [HELP ME FIND] {Shoe Name} + Picture of Shoe
If you are hunting for a certain pair, your post title must include the Full Shoe Name and Colorway as well as a picture of the shoe in question. If either is missing, your post will be deleted. This rule exists to reduce the number of repetitive “Help Me Find” posts, as a user will be able to search previously posted “Help Me Find” posts for the shoe they want.

Rule #5: Find Post Title Guidelines: [FIND] {Price in Yuan} {Batch} {Shoe Name} from {Seller Name}
Okay, so you’re on WeChat, and a seller has posted a new product. You want to be the first one to post about it on Reddit, so you rush over and make the post. Great, pat yourself on the back. Just kidding. Don’t just stop there - put some thought into the post. How does this new find compare to other products on the market? Do they have potential? You don’t have to be an expert QCer, but give your general thoughts. In short, were these worth finding? The hope is that with this general subreddit policy, it will encourage people to post high-quality finds and reduce clutter from low-tier finds that don’t add much to the group.
Rule #6: Be Respectful of One Another
Please be nice and courteous to one another. All rules of Reddiquette apply. Your membership in this subreddit is contingent upon your overall Reddit activity, not just limited to this subreddit. To put explicitly, this includes but is not limited to: harassing or disrespecting others in other subreddits, posting hate speech of any kind, or spreading misinformation. Any violation of this will result in the banning of your account and any alternate accounts you may be known to have!
Rule #7: No Cussing
In line with the previous rule, no cussing on the sub, please. Often, on the rep subs, the only time people are cussing is to insult one another, spread misinformation, or speak illy in general. Rule #8: Support Your Statements with Evidence
Essentially, cite your source. Let's avoid being like other rep subs where people make up rumors or decide their opinions without any research or evidence.
If you comment saying a batch is the best or better than what has been posted, show us why. Link reference posts, rep vs retails, QCs, etc. Show, rather than tell, us why what you're saying is correct. If your statement is a good one, this shouldn't be difficult. As above, don't default to name calling if you can't support your statement. It is okay to have a well-informed opinion - it is not okay to have an uneducated opinion that you spread as fact.
If you run into issues with a member or members in the group that are not participating in this group norm, please tag a mod, and the situation will be handled accordingly.
Rule #9: No Seller Ads
Self-explanatory. This especially applies to lost middlemen posting their fake QCs to try to gain business. If you are a member and see this, please report the post. If a post receives enough reports, it is automatically removed and sent to the mod queue. This helps keep the group clean through community effort.
Rule #10: No WeChat Verification Posts
I understand that you may want your WeChat verified in order to communicate with sellers or see their WeChat Moments. There are other subs for WeChat Verifications though. Please do not make these posts here. Use the appropriate subs. Posts will be deleted.
Rule #11: No Memes
This group aims to be a research-focused subreddit. It prides itself on providing the most objective information possible. Please keep the memes or satire posts in other subs. This includes meme titles or captions such as "how fast do I need to walk" or "fire up the rep machines." These posts add little to no value and are often unoriginal anyway.
Any use of meme titles will result in a 14-day temp ban as previously announced, as will repeated infractions of posting other memes.

Background:
The Maryland Port Authority has to constantly dredge the Baltimore Harbor, shipping terminals, and shipping channels to keep them open. Much of the dredge removed from the Baltimore harbor and Patapsco River near old industrial sites is contaminated with heavy metals, oils, and other toxic "forever" chemicals. The Maryland Port Authority (MPA) has to dry and store this dredged material in special "containment sites" because it is unsafe for human exposure. (See https://maryland-dmmp.com/). Before the 1970s, this material was often dumped back into the Chesapeake Bay. After ecological awareness arose in the 1970s and dumping was regulated, MPA was forced to create diked land-based dredge containment facilities to dry and store dredged material.
These sites, once created, are forever contaminated. MPA has done its best to create these sites where they make the least impact - often in already-contaminated abandoned industrial areas. MPA also creates conservation areas to make amends for the harm, makes clean dredge available for shoreline restorations and construction projects, makes contaminated dredge available for re-use research, and in some cases recreates islands lost to erosion (Hart-Miller Island, Poplar Island, and James and Barren Islands) using dredged material.
After significant pushback from communities near Hart-Miller Island for decades and years of litigation, MPA shut down the Hart-Miller dredge containment facility before its completion and shifted their attention to creating dredge containment sites near Baltimore in already-contaminated industrial areas next to Fort Armistead (Cox Creek DMCF) in Anne Arundel County and in Masonville next to Brooklyn. Ongoing dredging activities and plans to fill these sites to heights of 60 feet or higher with contaminated dredge and their runoff are already a significant concern for the quality of the water and the aquatic life in the Patapsco and its tidal tributaries. A potentially even greater concern is that because MPA is running out of land-based locations to contain contaminated dredge, it now plans to create Confined Aquatic Dredge (CAD) sites in the seabed of the Patapsco River to essentially bury contaminated dredge underwater in the sea floor. The first MPA full scale CAD site is planned to be built one mile off the shore of the communities of Stoney Beach and Riviera Beach near the entrance to Stoney Creek.
The planned Patapsco CAD site will be up to 220 acres in size. MPA plans to remove clean seabed material from the site for several months and make it available to construction companies and for shoreline restoration efforts and then replace it with contaminated dredge material for several more months sometime in the next year. MPA asserts that unlike historic dredge dumping, this CAD site will be "capped" and "safe". However, there will inevitably be a significant release of contaminants and turbidity into the Patapsco from this activity and permanent impact within and near the CAD site. Contaminated dredge material suspended in water can't be totally contained. Moreover, long-term ecological impacts from leaching and seabed shifting can't be predicted.
Concerns:
Northern Anne Arundel communities near the planned CAD site are very concerned about several potential issues related to its creation:
  1. The noise from planned 24/7 dredging for several months at a time as well as spotlighting at night since this will be over a mile closer to Stoney Beach and Riviera Beach than the shipping channel.
  2. The safety of residents in nearby waters to swim, fish, and engage in watersports on the Patapsco and in Stoney Creek, Cox Creek, and downstream tributaries during and after dredging from exposure to chemical and biological toxins released into the water.
  3. The impact of such dredging on aquatic life and ecosystems including waterfowl that depend on it.
  4. The long-term ecological impact on the CAD site, nearby shorelines, and the tidal waters around it.
  5. The potential short and long-term geographical extent of ecological and human exposure to released toxins given unpredictable winds, currents, storms, tidal swings, and sea level rise.
We have questions related to these concerns and would like a greater understanding of how impacts will be measured and mitigated and what the potential risks to our communities might be - including being exposed to chemical and biological toxins. Of particular concern if this program moves forward is how will toxins be measured, where will they be measured, how will communities be notified if toxins in the water around their shoreline reaches harmful levels, and what might the long-term effects of such toxins be that might settle around our shorelines?
While we are concerned, we also appreciate that MPA is creating conservation sites such as the Swan Creek Wetlands next to the Cox Creek facility and making clean dredge material available at little or no cost to communities engaged in shoreline restoration efforts - including Stoney Beach which is planning an important natural shoreline project to protect a highly eroded natural area at our point where the Patapsco meets Stoney Creek. This greatly reduces the cost of shoreline restoration.
