2023.06.01 08:24 fighterace00 Nelnet Phishing

Why is Nelnet sending emails from a .net domain and asking me to register on a .com domain?
The great lakes / Nelnet transfer email I've been expecting is riddled with hyperlinks. These are classic tells for scam emails but I believe this is legit. Student loans are already a prime target for phishing personal data but this period of transferring servicers after not having to make a payment for years and some never making Payment at all, is a perfect storm for scammers to swoop in amongst the confusion.
It doesn't help that nelnet.net and nelnet.com are both websites though nelnet.net seemingly redirects to a .com domain (which can be spoofed).
https://imgur.com/a/rPCqG8T
This is partially a rant at Nelnet for not enacting basic scam prevention industry practices and partially a warning for you all to triple check what you've clicked on before entering sensitive data.
In my case the Great Lakes website specifically says all loans are being transferred nelnet.com so I can visit that website directly without relying on hyperlinks or emails from new senders.

2023.05.31 19:32 Mizfit_Number1 Looking for audio of Comes a Time: A Tribute to Jerry Garcia from 2005

https://forum.phish.net/forum/show/1375192618
I just stumbled across this show today while looking through some of Jay Blakesberg's photos, when I saw a picture of what appears to be Trey Anastasio and Bruce Hornsby rehearsing in a small room.
From what I'm reading in the forum post above, it seems like required listening for any deadhead:
Greek Theater, 9/24/2005
Ollin Arageed
Help on the Way
Slipknot!
Sugaree
Loser
Brown Eyed Women
Dark Star
Bertha
Eyes Of The World
Standing on the Moon
Scarlet Begonias
Fire on the Mountain
Stella Blue
The Wheel
Uncle John's Band
He's Gone
Franklin's Tower
ENCORE
Brokedown Palace
Dark Star
Touch of Grey
Playin in the Band:
•Bob Weir - guitar, vocals
•Billy Kreutzmann - drums
•Mickey Hart - percussion
•Donna Jean Godchaux-MacKay - backup vocal
•Bruce Hornsby - keyboards, vocals
•Trey Anastasio - guitar, vocals
•Warren Haynes - guitar, vocals
•Jimmy Herring - guitar
•Michael Kang - mandolin, fiddle (String Cheese Incident)
•Jay Lane - drums (Ratdog)
•Jeff Chimenti - keyboards (Ratdog)
•Mark Karan - guitar (Ratdog)
•Robin Sylvester - bass (Ratdog)
•Kenny Brooks - saxophone (Ratdog)
•Gloria Jones - backup vocals (JGB)
•Jackie LaBranch - backup vocals (JGB)
Talk about a legendary lineup. There is a link in the forum post where they OP says go download the show, but the post is 10 years old and the link brings you to a nugs page that can no longer be loaded. I tried looking on archive and etree for recordings, but to no avail. I was wondering if anyone here may have the recording or knows where I can access it so I can listen to this hidden treasure?(at least it's been hidden for me) I would really appreciate any help. Thanks y'all!

2023 has (so far!) broken the trend of increasing crypto-related crime

2021 and 2022 were record-setting years for crypto-related crime

In January 2022, we heard that 2021 had a record-setting amount of crypto-related crime with an estimated 14 billion dollars. This number was later revised to 18 billion dollars.
The report for 2022 came in January 2023. The reported number was again record-setting: 20.1 billion dollars. This number has since been revised to 23.8 billion dollars.
The news about 2022 setting this record was contra what could have been expected (bear markets traditionally see a decrease in crypto-related crime).
Source: Crypto Crime Report 2023 by Chainalysis, page 5
Two interesting trends appeared in 2022 compared to 2021:
  1. Crypto scams revenue went down almost 50%
  2. Crypto-related crime related to sanctions were included in the report
It is notable that political sanctions have become a big topic in the world these past two years. This will of course be seen positively by some and negatively by others. Does crypto have borders?
The sources for these data are the annual reports by Chainalysis and the Internet Crime Report by FBI.

2023 is not breaking crime-related records - so far

2023 has seen three positive trends:
  1. An increase in the number of self-custody wallets (which has resulted in a net outflow of crypto from centralized exchanges)
  2. An increase in the number of long-term holders of BTC in spite of whales taking profits
  3. An increased focus on how to stay safe from phishing attacks
As we all know, crypto is volatile and unpredictable.
However, 2023 has so far shown out to be a decent year for crypto. Hopefully it will stay that way.

2023.05.29 03:45 harry-jg How to Buy and Sell NFT

The modern art scene has evolved into something of a digital jungle, with NFT artists and collectors finding themselves in the crosshairs of online rogues, the digital counterparts of our friendly neighbourhood pickpockets. Some of these scoundrels have made off with sums large enough to give Uncle Tom a fit of the vapours. While most NFT bazaars fortify their establishments with security as tight as Bertie's Aunt Agatha's grip on his allowance, these virtual marauders employ an array of clever tactics to ferret out chinks in the armour.
Also, patrons who step into the NFT marketplace without a fair understanding of the potential hazards are likely to fall prey to scams as varied as the ingredients in Anatole's menu, unless they adopt the proper cybersecurity etiquette.
In this discourse, we shall traverse the path of safety in the acquisition, disposal, and conservation of NFTs, with a special focus on the common pitfalls one must be wary of before taking a plunge into this sea of digital artefacts.
Take heed, however: this account does not aspire to the status of financial counsel. Should one wish to treat NFTs as financial steppingstones, it would be prudent to seek out the advice of a seasoned financial advisor well-versed in the intricacies of digital assets, including NFTs and cryptocurrencies. As with all matters of great importance, prior personal research into NFTs and cryptocurrencies is highly recommended before parting with your hard-earned pounds or engaging in any trading of said assets. One should be as aware of the risks associated with these dealings as Jeeves is of Bertie's numerous romantic entanglements.
NFTs: A Gentleman's Guide to the Artefacts of the Digital Age
An NFT, you see, bears an uncanny resemblance to a digital autograph (fondly dubbed a "Token") which serves as a certificate of proprietorship over a virtual asset – these assets might range from digital masterpieces and collectibles to prime digital real estate. The best analogy for these NFTs, is they are much like the deeds to your stately family home. Now, the deeds themselves do not constitute the building, but rather the legal evidence of your dominion over it. Similarly, an NFT does not represent the actual work of digital art but is a token of its ownership.
The operations of NFTs are underpinned by a nifty invention called blockchain technology, which plays the role of the dutiful Jeeves, handling the transaction and safekeeping of these NFTs. Using some form of secret code language or 'cryptography', these blockchain networks pave the way for trusted dealings sans the requirement for a third-party interference (a meddlesome middleman, so to speak) and ensure the secure archival of all records.
So, what exactly does NFT stand for? Well, it’s an abbreviation for "non-fungible token." Now, if something is "fungible", it implies that it can be exchanged for an identical item without affecting its value. A dollar bill, for instance, is fungible, as you can swap it for another dollar bill, with no impact on its worth. However, a "non-fungible" item means that there aren't any equivalent assets it can be swapped for. These are generally one-of-a-kind items, akin to custom timepieces, limited edition figurines, and singular art pieces. Thus, an NFT, being a unique entity, cannot be directly swapped for another NFT. The "token" part of non-fungible token refers to the digital signature that authenticates ownership. If you hold the unique signature or "token" tied to an asset, you can assert your ownership of said asset.
Perils and Pitfalls: A Navigational Chart for the NFT Voyager
While the sturdy vessel of blockchain technology that navigates the choppy seas of NFTs might be as secure as the Bank of England, there still exist several pesky barnacles clinging to its hull, threatening to place NFT users in a bit of a soup. These include, but aren't limited to, nefarious wallet raids, weak points in the defences of NFT platforms, unsavoury exploitation by computer bugs and viruses, cunning phishing expeditions, and the ever-so-sly scams of social engineering.
Invisible Pestilence: A Tale of NFT's Malware Marauders
As in all spheres of existence, the shimmering world of NFT platforms too has had its fair share of skeletons in the closet - loopholes cunningly exploited by the digital bounders, letting them 'airdrop' NFTs, teeming with malevolent attachments, right into users' wallets. Now, an 'airdrop', in the decent, respectable circles of cryptocurrency and NFT projects, is merely a benevolent act of tossing a free item into a user's crypto wallet - as harmless as handing out complimentary biscuits at the club. However, when these seemingly innocuous airdropped NFTs come bearing hidden malware like a Trojan horse, unwary users could inadvertently download these digital pests, resulting in an unsolicited exhibition of their most private data. This could range from crypto wallet passwords and private keys to backup phrases, personal information, and all manner of things best kept under wraps.
A Fishing Trip Through the NFT Seas: Phishing Attacks, Smishing Scandals, and Counterfeit Webpage Woes
Imagine, if you will, a bustling scene of NFT enthusiasts, going about their business, trading and collecting digital treasures. Yet, lurking in the shadows are the incorrigible digital miscreants, plotting their next phishing attack. Yes, phishing, the nefarious act of pretending to be a legitimate entity to hoodwink unsuspecting NFT users into parting with their crypto wallet's private keys or backup phrases. Once obtained, these felons swiftly empty the user's wallet of its NFT collections and associated funds, as swiftly as one might drain a bottle of the finest claret.
Regrettably, the machinations of these digital ruffians have only become more sophisticated. Enter 'smishing', a novel variant of phishing, where the attackers deploy deceptive SMS messages to the user's mobile device, leading them to click on malicious links or persuading them to part with their two-factor authentication codes that guard their NFT wallets and online accounts.
And as if that weren’t enough, these rogues have added website forgery to their arsenal of deceit. Creating facsimile versions of legitimate NFT platforms or of popular NFT collection websites, they strategically place ads that lure users onto these bogus sites. Once ensnared, the victims are coaxed into entering sensitive information such as recovery phrases, providing the hackers with a one-way ticket into their crypto wallets, and a free hand to pilfer NFTs and cryptocurrency funds at leisure.
Under the Cloak of Camaraderie: A Tale of Digital Miscreants and Social Engineering Shenanigans
Picture a digital rogue so crafty, he's able to coax the private details out of an unsuspecting NFT enthusiast, simply by utilising the tools of social engineering. These chaps dive headlong into the personal lives of their victims, looking for the perfect hook with which to draw them into their deceitful net. It might be a shared interest or hobby that they latch onto, creating a false sense of camaraderie and trust, as cunning as a fox that’s just been made the head of hen-house security.
These swindlers have no shortage of tactics up their sleeves, with some bold enough to impersonate customer support personnel on Twitter for reputable NFT platforms, such as OpenSea, or even masquerade as employees on an authentic platform's Discord server. And don't think for a moment that these schemes are amateurish! Oh, no! These social engineering plots can be so exquisitely sophisticated and meticulously organised, they might even hoodwink the most savvy of NFT users.
Consider, for instance, these rogues posing as a legitimate business, keen on partnering with reputable NFT traders. They engage in convivial exchanges, build a rapport, and once the stage is set, they pull the rug out from under their unsuspecting targets, tricking them into sending cryptocurrency funds to a duplicitous wallet. So, just as in the tales of old, where the sly fox tricks the unsuspecting lamb, in the world of NFTs, it pays to keep your wits about you and not take things at face value.
The Case of the Bumbling Wallet and the Crafty Crypto Caper
Imagine, if you will, a crypto wallet—just your everyday digital purse, mind you—coming under attack by a band of cunning hackers. This woeful predicament usually arises when the wallet's custodian fails to adhere to the gold standard in security procedures. The miscreants employ a variety of tools in their digital skulduggery, with phishing being their favourite pastime. But let's not forget the insidious malware—spyware, keyloggers, and the like—that stealthily monitor every twitch and click, ready to snatch up any juicy tidbits of sensitive data.
To ward off these digital rapscallions, one must store one's crypto wallet private keys with the utmost discretion, akin to how one might tuck away one's prized collection of first-edition Wodehouse novels. A stout password, sturdy as a bulldog's bite, is a must for any crypto wallet aspiring to stay out of the hands of these nefarious netizens.
And don't forget the cavalry in this digital fray—a robust antivirus program. Windows patrons might find solace in the arms of a program like Norton, while Mac aficionados might rest easier with Intego standing guard. With these loyal digital sentinels on patrol, your system will be as free of spyware, keyloggers, and data-pilfering malware as the Drones Club is free of an overly sober atmosphere.
Doppelgangers in the Digital Art Bazaar: The Tale of Bogus NFTs
Imagine, if you will, a horde of scammers, much akin to troublesome gnats at a summer picnic, hatching counterfeit NFTs in the likeness of popular collections. The whole operation is somewhat reminiscent of peddling sham concert tickets at the local gig, old chap.
Detecting these cunning replicas can be as tricky as spotting a speck of dust on Aunt Agatha's prized Chippendale settee. However, just like Aunt Dahlia's French chef Anatole has his telltale signs for distinguishing fresh truffles, these fraudulent NFTs bear certain tell-tale signs of inauthenticity, such as:
  1. Prices that could make a frugal Scotsman blush, being significantly less than those of their bona fide counterparts.
  2. Absence of verification (no blue checkmark donning their listing, the digital equivalent of a monocle, to vouch for their legitimacy).
  3. Orphaned from their original collection, much like a lone scone at a busy afternoon tea.
  4. Contract addresses that don’t match the original ones, a red flag as conspicuous as a fox at Blandings Castle.
  5. A trading volume lower than the level of sobriety at the Drones Club on a Friday evening.
Often, unsuspecting users, much like young Bingo Little swayed by the charms of yet another love interest, are lured by the attractively low prices of these faux NFTs. They mistake the bargain for a genuine good deal, only to realize they've been taken for a ride.
When navigating these choppy waters, my dear reader, stick to the blue checkmark, much like the North Star to a weary traveler. That little symbol could be your salvation in the topsy-turvy world of NFT trading.

2023.05.25 05:39 phattybipps Why didn't "Drifting" ever cross over to a Phish tune besides once in 2003?

Listening to 2/26/03, they play a TAB song called "Drifting" and it's got TOTAL 3.0 love and light Trey vibes... examples:
Although TAB plays it often, it's only been played by Phish that ONE time 20 years ago. It sounds like it was written in 3.0 along the same lines as Sigma, Ruby Waves, Beneath a Sea of Stars, etc.
Show notes from dot net say the band each debuted a song from their side projects (um, CUTE btw) so this was Trey's choice, but why did Phish never pick it up again? Especially before all the 3.0 songs like this one really came out (the last 6-7 years. I'd love to hear Phish jam that bad boy out like Wave of Hope.
Feels nice to know that even in the early 2000's when Trey was struggling, he had these beautiful songs in his pocket before he came out on the other side. Wonder if he had written any of the more recent songs like this one back then, too...

2023.05.24 23:09 VolForLife212 Phishing Emails from utk.net (Report these)

Today I got a phishing email from it@ utk. net and other people got emails from hr@ utk.net. Before getting to the scams, remember the following:
EMAIL SAFETY TIPS:
  1. Only open emails if the email is from a address/person you know. UTK emails should have utk.edu on them but watch out. Scammers will spoof or create similar looking emails. Worse yet, some UTK email addresses get stolen so even if it's from utk.edu , be careful (Tip 2).
  2. Only open attachments, click links or scan QR codes on emails if you are expecting the attachment and trust the sender. If someone sends an email you weren't expecting like "Check out my findings", be careful. If you know the person and they're in a class of yours, message them on GroupMe or somewhere and say, "Did you send me findings?"
  3. It's better to be safe. If you're a little uneasy about an attachment, don't open it. Scammers create a sense of urgency with messages like, "We need this as soon as possible". We've had people create fake email addresses for our department head and ask us for personal information with urgent requests. If someone needs something urgently, call them on the phone.
  4. Report all abuse to [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]) . You can forward the emails but make sure to NOT click things within the email.
These are scam emails:
HR SCAM: They're telling you to click a form to fill out or fill out a PDF and send it back. Don't open files from this email. I imagine the scam is to get you to give them personal information.
IT PRINTER SCAM: The email told me that a printer was registered to my email address. If I had clicked the link it might've asked to install software or who knows what. Don't click links from this email.

I got a few rules in this here setlist thread:
  1. Be Kind. You don’t have to agree with everybody, but there’s no reason to be rude.
  2. Please don’t skunk up the thread by asking for or sharing miracles. If you choose to share links, keep them in the DMs/PMs. You just gotta poke around.

  4. No spoilers! If you caught soundcheck or a flash of the setlist, please spoiler tag it or do not mention songs by name!
  5. If someone says the word "tempo" we all have to take a shot (or hit, or drink of your choosing (alcoholic or non))

2023.05.22 18:30 Kernel_Forbin New full show archival release this Friday, and new From the Archives tonight on SiriusXM

If I am reading this correctly, there is both a new FTA tonight (hand-selected SBD releases from various shows), and a new full show being released on Friday.
The full show release will be announced tonight during the FTA.
The hint photo they provided would seem to be from Fall/Winter 1995 (or 1994). Maybe during a BBFCFM or a Kung? (Megaphone is out, but no guitar. Mike maybe crouching in the background?)
Edit: Julia Mordaunt has confirmed the photo is from October 1994
Show announced as 10/29/94 Spartanburg Memorial Auditorium, Spartanburg, SC
https://phish.net/setlists/phish-october-29-1994-spartanburg-memorial-auditorium-spartanburg-sc-usa.html
The SBD already circulates, but this is a full multi-track recording (same source as the tracks selected for A Live One).
Also, no "From the Archives" is being released, that is just what they are calling the Shapiro segment while he previews the release for Friday.
LivePhish is getting ready to drop a new Archival release Friday and we'll announce what it is tonight at 6PM ET on a new From The Archives with Kevin Shapiro on Phish Radio. This classic photo was snapped days prior to the show. Guesses?

2023.05.22 16:43 donttouchthatknob If there was a Jam Chart for the various members' side projects, what would you put on there?

Obviously, the .net Jam Chart is focused on what Phish as a band is doing. But there have got to be some Chart-worthy jams from TAB or Vida Blue or something. So I ask you: What are your favorite jams from GRAB or Oysterhead or the Jazz Mandolin Project?? When have Mike & Leo gone type 2??

2023.05.22 15:34 More_Breakfast2084 The Fastest VPN According to Reddit in 2023

Hey, fellow Redditors! If you're on a quest for the fastest VPN service that has been crowned by the Reddit community, you've come to the right place. We've scoured the depths of Reddit's wisdom to bring you the ultimate guide on blazing-fast VPNs that will turbocharge your browsing experience. In this comprehensive guide, we'll explore the fastest VPN services according to Reddit. Get ready to surf the web with lightning speed while keeping your online activities locked away from prying eyes. I will try to help you find the fastest VPN Let's dive into the exciting world of supercharged VPNs that have earned the approval of Redditors everywhere!

Understanding the Need for a Fast VPN

Before we delve into the details, let's understand why speed is a crucial factor when choosing a VPN service. A VPN works by encrypting your internet connection and routing it through a secure server, thereby hiding your IP address and protecting your data from prying eyes. However, this encryption process can potentially slow down your internet speed. Therefore, finding a fast VPN is vital to strike the right balance between security and performance.

Factors Affecting VPN Speed

  1. Server Network: The geographical distribution and number of servers offered by a VPN provider play a significant role in determining the speed. Having a vast server network allows for better load distribution and reduced congestion, resulting in faster connections.
  2. Protocols and Encryption: VPN protocols, such as OpenVPN, WireGuard, and IKEv2, have different levels of encryption and impact on speed. While higher encryption ensures stronger security, it can also lead to slower speeds. Finding a VPN that offers a balance between security and speed is crucial.
  3. Internet Service Provider (ISP) Throttling: Some ISPs intentionally slow down certain types of internet traffic, including VPN connections. Look for a VPN provider that offers measures to bypass or mitigate ISP throttling, such as obfuscated servers or protocol options that can evade detection.
  4. Server Load and Bandwidth: VPN servers can experience varying levels of load based on the number of users connected to them. Overloaded servers can lead to reduced speeds. Opting for a VPN provider with a large number of servers and ample bandwidth can help ensure a faster and more reliable connection.
  5. Distance to Servers: The physical distance between your location and the VPN server you connect to can affect latency and speed. Choosing a VPN service with servers in close proximity to your location can result in faster connections.
  6. Device Performance: The specifications and capabilities of your device can impact VPN performance. Older devices or those with limited processing power may experience slower speeds when encrypting and decrypting data. Consider your device's capabilities when selecting a VPN.

Evaluating VPN Providers for Speed

Now that we understand the factors affecting VPN speed, let's explore some key considerations to evaluate VPN providers and find the fastest service for your needs:

1. Server Coverage and Network Size

Look for VPN providers that offer an extensive network of servers distributed across multiple countries. The more server locations available, the higher the chances of finding a nearby server for optimal speed. Additionally, a larger network helps distribute user traffic more evenly, reducing the risk of overcrowded servers.

2. Speed Tests and Performance Benchmarks

Reliable VPN providers often conduct speed tests and publish performance benchmarks on their websites. These tests provide valuable insights into the speed and performance of their servers. Look for VPN services that regularly update and share speed test results to ensure you're choosing a fast and reliable option.

3. User Reviews and Feedback

Online reviews and feedback from users can provide real-world insights into the speed and performance of different VPN services. Look for reviews on reputable technology websites and forums to gauge user experiences. Pay attention to reviews that specifically mention speed and performance to make an informed decision.

4. Trial Periods and Money-Back Guarantees

Many VPN providers offer trial periods and money-back guarantees, allowing you to test their service and assess the speed before committing to a long-term subscription. Take advantage of these trial periods to evaluate the VPN's performance on your specific devices and network.

5. Compatibility with Streaming and P2P Services

If you frequently use streaming platforms or engage in peer-to-peer (P2P) file sharing, ensure that the VPN service you choose is compatible with these activities. Some VPN providers have optimized servers for streaming and P2P, which can enhance speed and performance for these specific use cases.

6. Customer Support and Assistance

In the event that you encounter speed or performance issues with your VPN service, responsive and knowledgeable customer support can make a significant difference. Look for VPN providers that offer 24/7 customer support through various channels, such as live chat or email, to address any concerns promptly.

2023.05.19 15:14 shadowcatt77 Beta e-mail scam?

Hey all, I’ve been having fun with the game so far. I hope that what I’m writing isn’t against the rules if this is legitimate but I thought I’d ask or at least share my suspicions here.
I saw in game that there will be a beta crew chosen to run update testing for the game so this didn’t come out of nowhere, but emails are being sent from the email ID : [email protected]
Suspicion #1 : I’ve received emails from @docusign.net before but never with a @anythingelse.docusign.net
Suspicion #2 : they’re asking for a copy of a photo ID, your digital signature, and your in-game ID#
This to me reeks of a phishing scam, so people should gonna pass if they receive this email. Even if it is legitimate this seems like too much info to provide for beta access.
Thoughts?
