I just watched The Matrix for the first time and it’s one of the best movies I’ve ever seen. The plot,concept, and direction are all amazing. I’m sure the filmmakers weren’t the first to theorize that we’re in a simulation but they made this concept so compelling and cool. The action set pieces are some of the best ever put to the screen. The amount of explosions from the bullets coming off of walls in the shooting scene and the way the action always remained clear and easy to look at is incredible. The choreography of the fighting scenes was enthralling and I really enjoyed how the simulation concept allows for gravity defying slow motion action that doesn’t seem super corny or dumb. I had to rewind on the explosion shot when the woman was swinging in front the skyscraper because it was insane. I also really enjoyed the dialogue about the human race and the way we behave and how an outside entity would perceive us. Overall really enjoyed this film and if you’re young like me and have heard the hype but have never checked it out I highly recommend.

Basically title. My wife wants to change out the entertainment center. I am realizing a server rack might be necessary for me in the near future. So I was thinking, I already have my router and small switch behind my TV, wall mounted. So why not just implement a small server rack, into a custom built entertainment center. I was thinking of throwing a bunch of noctuas in it to keep it cool. Then a bunch of sound damping pieces all around it. And seal it around the door with good filters over intake and exhaust fans...
Idk... Thoughts? Think it'd be too loud?.. devices I'd like to get in there are as follows.

1. Nas, currently a small Synology NAS, but eventually, I want to take my I6700k get a small itx Mobo and throw it in a case, make it TrueNAS and drop Synology. This will do all the self hosting. So a bunch of Nas hdds and containers running all the time. I'd like to run a bunch of VMs here as well. (Exactly what and how I build this system is up in the air and a while away).
   
2. A raspberry pi, probably running a 2nd pihole Incase first pihole goes down, and maybe something to run a backup of my docker config files, and docker-compose files. This way if the server is drives die, I can just grab the docker compose files and the configs, and rebuild very quickly...
   
3. Denon AVR, for surround sound and music.
   
4. Router
   
5. A 10gb switch, primarily so when the server is streaming 4k movies, downloading and server files through torrent and nextcloud etc, it can also run a VM or 2 without running into band width limitations. Obviously things like the Nvidia shield only get 1gbps, but the Nas should be able to handle multiple 10gbps connections without throttling. And then I might as well throw a 10gb nic in my desktop, cause fuck it why not...
   

Anyways, I don't know how noisy or viable it will be. I don't have anywhere else to store all this stuff, and custom building a entertainment center seems to be the best way to get the all important wife approval.

I stumbled out from the cave, terrified. My legs didn't seem to work properly. Everything around me was wrong, the colors, the shadows, the shapes of the trees and the sounds of the singing birds sitting on their branches.
This world was not my own. And I needed to get out.
NOW.
Running as fast as I could through the forest, I remembered how I had come to be in this place. As a Park Ranger trainee, I’d been on a fire lookout assignment and had been sent to confront a few campers who had made a bonfire without a permit - in an off-limits area. But I had stumbled through a gateway to another world in the process, becoming lost in this place. Trapped in another dimension where humanoid creatures with gray skin and four arms hunted people in the purple-tinged darkness.
I fell flat on my face, landing hard after tripping over something.
A vine?
No. Whatever it was, it was thin and sharp and had hurt me badly. The piano wire or whatever it was had cut across my shins, and I felt the warmth of blood trickling from the skin.
The traps. I'd forgotten all about the traps David had set, all throughout this part of the forest, to keep him safe from the creatures in this terrifying world.
"Come back," I heard David yelling over my shoulder from the darkness. "It's not safe! You must come back!"
But I didn't listen. I scrambled back to my feet, and began to run. My only thought was to get to the archway. The place where I’d entered this world. The portal back to Earth had to be there. It HAD to be.
David’s voice could be heard receding into the distance behind me. I shuddered involuntarily, thinking about how I had seen him in the darkness of the cave, eating something like a rat or a mouse. Not only that, but his arms! His arms had been too many. There was an extra pair of hands working at the hairy flesh of the vermin he'd been eating. The bloody fur and the tearing sounds of him ripping chunks from the creature's body with his teeth were too much to think about.
At first I thought maybe he was lying to me from the beginning, and that he was from this place all along. Maybe he was born here and was trying to keep me trapped in this place. But the more I considered it, the more I realized that idea didn't sit right with me.
David was NOT a denizen of this terrible violet-tinted world. No, he was from Earth. The way he spoke, talking about Fire Tower 14, which he said he had worked at, proved that he was not from here. He was from Earth.
My mind began to work out what this meant and came to the conclusion that being in this world changed you over time. Being here, eating the foraged food and breathing the purple-tinged air. All of it was toxic to people from our world. And it caused side effects that were likely permanent.
I only hoped I hadn’t been here long enough for a change to occur in ME.
I shuddered at the thought of an extra pair of arms splitting open the flesh of my abdomen and reaching out, grabbing anything they could get their hands on. HUNGRY. Desperate for food. For blood and flesh and…
Fuck.
I needed to get out of this place.
Running through the woods more carefully now, I lifted my feet high off the ground to avoid tripwires, and hoped that I didn’t stumble into a spike-filled pit or some other deathtrap which David had planted.
Before being hired as a fire lookout, David had served in the British Military, in the SAS - a highly trained branch similar to the Special Forces in America. He was a deadly shot with a rifle, and I no longer had mine with me.
I picked up my pace, hearing the sound of him coming after me through the forest. He was injured, and that would slow him down, but he also knew this place far better than I did. He knew where the traps were located and how to avoid them. Whereas I was just hoping to be able to find my way back to the archway. The possibility of getting lost forever in the wilderness of this strange world occurred to me briefly, but I tried not to think about it.
Trying to remember the way we’d traveled through the forest, I stepped tentatively across the ground, no longer running, but slowly walking through the trees now. I was terrified of stepping on a spike or tumbling into a pit with spikes at the bottom, ready to impale me. David had told me more than once to NEVER go out alone, since he had placed traps everywhere in this area.
There was a noise close behind me and I looked back to see David was following me from a distance, gaining on me, and I picked up my pace and began to run again.
“Come back,” he called after me, his voice sounding different now - distorted and wrong. “It’s not safe!”
Breaking into a sprint, I hoped to lose him in the darkness. For a time, it seemed to work. He was slower due to his injuries (or his mutations) and was hobbling when I saw him again, trailing me from a distance now.
Confident that I’d managed to escape the section of forest where he was hiding his traps, I began to make my way towards the archway. There were certain landmarks David had shown me to find my way back to it, but none of them looked quite the same at night. In fact, nothing looked the same at night.
I was starting to worry that I'd become completely lost, when I finally saw the huge oak tree with its one low branch that pointed the way. Following David’s prior advice, I continued traveling that direction.
After a long period of walking, I realized the sun had begun to rise - looking purple and bloated and wrong as it always did in this world. But at least it gave another indication of which direction I should be walking towards. And it helped to light the way, making the landmarks more obvious as I came across each one.
Here was the babbling brook which I would follow for a little while. And there was the strange boulder that looked like a face.
I felt a pang of regret at leaving David behind, after he’d saved my life, showing me how to survive in this world. But then I shook my head and reconsidered.
No, I couldn’t go back to that cave.
Maybe he was eating rats now, but what if tomorrow he developed a taste for my flesh? What if I woke up to find him hunched over me, eating my leg or my foot?
No. Going back was not an option.
If David was still following me, there was no indication of it. I couldn’t hear him chasing me anymore and he wasn’t calling after me, maybe because he was worried about alerting the creatures to his presence.
The clearing where the archway had been was not far now. It was just another ten minutes or so of walking, and I was just hoping it would be there this time. If it wasn’t, I was completely unsure of what I would do. I’d been trying not to think about that part of things, since the idea of the portal not being there was too much to bear.
“Come back,” someone called out from the woods suddenly, startling me. It was David. At least, it sounded like him.
“It isn’t safe!” another voice called out from my right, sounding sped up, then slowed down, like a tape recorder running low on batteries.
Leaves crunched on the ground behind me and ahead of me. From all angles there were voices calling out in distorted tones.
“Come back!”
“It isn’t safe!”
“CROME BYACKK!”
“GRESTSN’T SAYFF!”
The more they said it the more the words didn’t sound like words anymore, but just strange, alien noises. They mingled together in an echoing cacophony of sounds.
My heart began to pound against my sternum like a jackhammer from the inside. My palms were sweating as I tried to lift my legs to run but realized they wouldn’t move.
It was at that moment that I observed the fact that I didn’t have my rifle, and it dawned on me for the first time that I’d left it back at the cave. With David.
And as that thought went through my mind the trees and shrubs all around me began to rustle and sway, moving aside to reveal the gray, four-armed figures who had been lying in wait.
If they know you like a particular spot, they’ll start to wait for you there. They’re adept hunters. And they know exactly the way to ambush someone. Trust me, I’ve seen it for myself, David had told me.
Yeah, I thought bitterly. He’d seen it firsthand with the rat in the cave. As he was turning into one of them - and he was becoming a pretty good hunter himself.
The pack of creatures closed in on me from all angles, and I sucked in a terrified breath, unable to scream or run or do anything at all.
It was hopeless.
Or so I thought.
The blast of the rifle was deafening in the stillness of the forest, and I winced at the sound of it, as it took the head off the creature closest to me, which was about to grab hold of me.
“RUN!” David screamed from the trees, and this time I could tell very clearly that it was his voice. But at the same time he looked different. He’d left his shirt back at the cave and the extra pair of arms on his abdomen were plainly visible now, and I could see they were holding the rifle. With four hands moving rapidly, David reloaded the gun in a fraction of the time, then had the sights up to his eye again and was ready to fire.
I did as he asked, trying to pry my eyes away from the horrifying image of what was happening. The creatures were abandoning me to go after the bigger threat, and I saw them stomping through the brush towards him as he fired the gun again, taking off the top of one of their skulls in a bloody spray. A chunk of gray brain matter landed on my cheek, and I brushed it off in disgust.
Getting to my feet, I began to run. But one of the creatures stopped me. The one David had just shot was still alive somehow, and grabbing onto my leg - digging its talon-like claws into the flesh of my ankle, gritting its teeth and staring at me with a brainless, evil hunger.
I screamed and howled in pain, turning around and using my other foot to stomp on the thing’s face. As it spit out broken teeth it smiled at me, squeezing and digging its nails in deeper, until I could feel blood pouring out and soaking the fabric of my sock.
“Come BACK!” it croaked in David’s voice.
Finally I stepped on the thing’s arm, wrenching my leg free from its grip. It was like the thing felt no pain at all as it was immediately trying to come after me again with its other good hands. It was like all it desired was to cause pain, but felt none of its own.
Trying not to think about that, I turned away and began to run, limping on my one injured leg, ignoring the pain as I broke into a sprint.
And just as I got out of sight from David I heard him cry out in anguish, his screams cut short as one of the creatures began to chew on his windpipe - and all that could be heard after that was a hushed gurgling sound far back in the distance, as he drowned on his own blood.
Somehow I knew without even seeing it happen.
David was dead.
But I had no time to mourn for him.
I rushed through the trees, trying to ignore the pain in my leg, hoping with every fiber of my being that the archway would be there. I spoke the words in my mind and out loud over and over again, like a mantra, as the clearing came closer and drew into focus.
“Please be there, please be there, please be there.”
And when I came out from the trees and into the clearing I almost couldn’t believe my eyes.
Was this a dream? A mirage? A fantasy that would disappear when I blinked my eyes and opened them again?
No.
It was there. It was actually there.
The archway was back.
And just in the nick of time.
Without a moment’s hesitation I ran through it, terrified that it would disappear before I got the chance to step through the threshold and back into my dimension.
Like a man terrified of elevators and worried the box will drop out at any second, I leapt through the archway and back into the glorious golden sunlight of our world.
I realized immediately what I had been missing, as the blue sky above could be seen through the trees and I noticed I was truly warm for the first time in days. As if I had been walking in shadow, and only now was stepping out into the sun.
As I began to walk back towards the road, I took a nervous look back over my shoulder at the archway.
And I froze when I saw the disturbing sight behind me was still there.
I could still see the purple sky on the other side, and that could mean only one thing.
The portal was still open.
Terrified of what that implied, I shuddered and continued walking, looking back every so often for creatures, and hoping that the archway would disappear - this time for good. But it didn’t.
As I left it behind in the trees and lost sight of it, my last glimpse showed that evil purple sky shining through from the other side - insidiously waiting for another hiker to stumble through. Or for something ELSE to emerge from the other side.
At least if I have to face another one of those creatures, it will be on my turf, I thought to myself with some slight reassurance. But I didn’t have a weapon. And I would need backup.
I wasn’t out of the woods yet.
After limping through the forest for ten or fifteen minutes, eventually I found the road. A part of me had been worried it wouldn’t be there. That this would be just another world that looked like ours - one of a million different potential places that the archway could take you to - and that I would find myself wandering through some unknown forest again, set upon by some new breed of ravenous creatures with a thirst for blood. But thankfully this did look like the road I had been on before. And I could even see the distinctive tread marks in the mud from what appeared to be a Jeep. Maybe from the day when Ross had dropped me off in this very spot.
I felt a twinge of anger at the thought of my supervisor, and decided I would let him have it the moment I saw him. He was supposed to be my backup. I was supposed to be learning from him. Instead, he’d let me go out on my own. And now look at what had happened.
Limping along the shoulder of the gravel road, eventually I saw the fire tower come into view up ahead. It came into focus gradually, emerging from the trees that hid it from my sight.
The Jeep was there, and I realized instantly what that meant.
Ross was up there. Not out looking for me like he should have been. If he’d been where he was supposed to be none of this would have happened.
I climbed the wooden steps leading up to the fire tower, getting more and more enraged as I got further up, and closer to the man who I now believed was responsible for all this. My aching leg was bloodied and I could feel it swelling and my pant leg tightening around it.
Finally I reached the top and threw open the door, to find Ross sitting at the table reading a book, drinking a cup of coffee. He looked surprised to see me, and shocked at the sight of me.
“Holy shit,” he almost screamed, knocking his coffee cup over. The brown liquid spilled all over the pages of his paperback. “You’re back!”
“That’s right, motherfucker,” I hissed, limping towards him. I could feel my face turning hot and red.
His eyes widened further.
“What’s wrong with your face? Are you… Are you okay? You’re turning… purple…”
I didn’t know what to say to that. I looked in the mirror to my left and saw that he was right. I didn’t look like myself at all. I looked like a monster made of rage at that moment, my face purple with anger.
Suddenly all of the fight left me and I realized how utterly exhausted I was. I heaved out a great sigh and crumpled to the floor of the fire tower cabin. I collapsed on the floor, unable to understand what was happening to me. I didn’t feel like myself at all.
And as I did that I felt something writhing beneath me. A squirming feeling in my abdomen, like fingers reaching out from inside, trying to poke and tear their way through the skin of my belly.
I screamed, pulling up my shirt and clutching my abdomen, feeling the skin for a bulging pair of hands, or a face, picturing the movie Alien.
But there was nothing. No indication of anything growing or mutating inside of me. Except a slight tingling there. Like fingers gently brushing up against my skin from the inside. Tickling me, very lightly.
“No,” I said aloud, still clutching myself tightly.
“Dude, what the fuck happened to you?” Ross asked, looking at me with grave concern. “You’ve been gone for two days. And now you come back screaming and grabbing at yourself. Your face just went purple as an eggplant, like you had anaphylactic shock for a few seconds, and now it’s back to normal again. Tell me, please. Because I am genuinely very fucking concerned. What the hell happened to you out there?”
I took a few seconds before answering. I honestly didn’t know what to say. Until the words began spilling out of me.
“The same thing that happened to David. That’s what happened to me.”
There was a delayed reaction as it took several seconds for him to register the name. But then he did and his jaw dropped.
“How… Where did you hear that name? How do you know about David?”
“I met him,” I said, and was about to continue, when I heard a sound from beneath the fire tower.
It sounded like someone coming up the stairs.
I shot up to my feet, my eyes darting around the room.
“Where’s the rifle? You need to get your rifle! Now!”
Ross didn’t know what to make of this at first, and was about to question me, but then the look on my face seemed to convince him. He ran over to the gun rack on the wall and pulled down his rifle. Checking to make sure it was loaded, he took the safety off.
“Is that David?” he asked.
I shook my head, no.
“What the hell did you get us into, exactly?” he asked nervously.
But before I could respond there was someone at the door. There was a sound of scratching. Long nails against the wood, scraping it. And there was a distorted gray face at the window, looking in at us.
“COME BACK,” it demanded.
Ross held the scope up to his eye and got ready to fire at the door.
Then the footsteps began to recede, going back down the stairs.
“What the fuck was that thing,” Ross asked, lowering his gun.
I tried to gather my thoughts, trying to figure out how to explain it all.
“Those things are deadly,” I said. “And they’re not from this world. They’re smart, and they’re almost impossible to kill. Right now they’re retreating. Gathering reinforcements. Assembling a hunting party.”
“How can you possibly know all this?”
I led him outside and pointed down at them below.
They were going back for more of their own kind, to bring them into our world. As I looked down from the lofty fire tower I could see them moving quickly into the forest. Some were going back towards the archway, but not all of them.
They were planning on staying here. Making this their new home. After all, there was an abundant food supply. And no real reason to leave.
I tried to sum up what had happened as well as I could in such a short time. It was difficult for him to believe - but the proof had been right in front of him. The monster had been right outside the fire tower. And we’d seen more of them below us. There was no way to fake that.
We needed to do something. Fast.
“Okay… Assuming you and I haven’t lost our minds and just hallucinated whatever the fuck those things were, I’ll take your word for all this. So, what are we going to do?” my supervisor asked reluctantly.
I considered this for a few long moments.
“How much gas do we have between the generator and the Jeep?” I asked.
His eyes went wide after he realized why I was asking.
For a while he didn’t answer. But then he nodded his head and waved for me to follow him.
“Enough,” he said, as I followed him down the stairs. “There’s enough.”

You might have heard about the wildfire on the news. It was a big one. There was speculation it was caused by hikers or careless campers - but the real reason why the blaze started was never truly discovered. No one would have guessed it was set by two rogue park rangers - and fire lookouts, no less.
The forest fire spread and took out a lot of homes, but everyone who lived in the area made it out alive. Thankfully no one died. I don’t know how I would have lived with myself if they had.
I was fired from the Park Ranger Service after what happened, as was Ross. With all the news coverage and social media outrage, someone had to be blamed for what happened. And we were the most viable scapegoats. Especially since we’d been seen fleeing the area long before the blaze was ever reported.
Our excuse was that the fire started near the road, and we had been down by the jeep when we noticed it. Believing our lives were in danger, we’d fled from the area before being able to radio in to report the wildfire.
Unfortunately, there’s no way of really knowing if we killed those things. Or if we destroyed the archway. Maybe it can’t even be destroyed. Maybe those things can’t be killed.
It’s been years since all of this happened. I’m terrified of the forest these days. I stay out of the woods, and away from nature entirely.
I live in a big city, far away from all that business. I work in a high rise and live in an apartment building. And when people ask if I want to go camping I say, “Hell no.”
People tell me I’m strange. They talk about me behind my back.
One thing that people find peculiar about me is that I never go swimming. I never take my shirt off. And I don’t date or try to find a girlfriend, despite people trying to set me up.
I don’t want anyone to see the changes that have been happening. The arms that have fully sprouted from my abdomen, and have a mind of their own.
I try to tie them down, to strap them down with duct tape so they can’t move. But they always manage to free themselves. They’re very crafty in that way. And they brought with them an unusual appetite.
I’ve found myself craving the most disturbing things.
Things that crawl and skitter in the subways and in the sewers. Things I have to chase and kill and rip flesh from bones with my bare teeth.
It scares me to think about what I’m becoming, and part of me will always be terrified. A voice in my mind screaming that this is wrong, and I need to get help.
But another part of me is getting used to it.
A primordial, alien part of me, is starting to very much enjoy the HUNT.

I have posted on this subreddit but never found a long-term friend so here I am giving it one more shot.
About me
I’m Michael 24 from Germany, I can speak 3 different languages but would most like to keep the conversation to English as I am a bit shy about the other two languages (German and Polish). I have struggled lately with friendships, I had a lot of downhill situations of people ghosting me or just pretty much pushing me off to the side to do stuff with other people all the time that is. I as well lost my job a few months ago because the company I worked at had financial issues. I kind of fell into a state of sadness not full depression but just sadness.

1- Music

• Underground Rap - $uicideboy$, Devilish Trio, Unavrange Gang, Ramirez, and many other
• Trance - I like to listen to a lot of old-school trance stuff so 90’s and early 2000s. I as well listen to newer trance with the combination of Meltrance and Psychedelic trance
• Rock - Rock music is something I have listened to a lot from the early 2000s to 60 and such as Rammstein, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Pink Floyd, Breakdown of Sanity, and many other bands.
• Other things I listen to - are Doomshop, Nightdrive Phonk, DnB, Liquid DnB, and many more

I as well make beats, mostly Trap/Rap stuff, but it’s only a hobby so nothing special.
2- Gaming
Most of the time I spend playing video games, I only play PC games. I don’t own any consoles and do not plan to buy any in the near future. I don’t have any specific genres of games I play, but to name a few stuff I play at the moment…

What am I looking for?
I was really hoping to find a long-term friendship where the time zones don’t really matter, as well as the hobbies and such. Yes, hobbies make building friendships easier but I’m always willing to take a shot in the dark to get to know new people. I want this sadness to fade away.

Hello, IMAM! Recently, I placed three orders – two were direct orders from indie houses, and one was from the destashes. One of the direct orders contained two candles, which will actually be reviewed separately from the perfume oils (which I will focus on here).
While I chose the samples all based on notes, I make a point of not double-checking when I test, going in as blindly as possible. Now, on to the reviews!
Possets
“Dance with Me” – Refreshing and refined at once. A perennial favorite. A superb coumarin-laced lavender combines with fizzy pink grapefruit, and it all rests on a bed of white musk. Enchantingly innocent but with loads of guile.
This was one of the few General Catalog fragrances from Possets that intrigued me (I’m mostly interested in stuff in the retours that can’t be purchased as samples from the site, because of course I am). When I placed my Possets order last year this almost made the cut, though I ultimately decided against it because I felt like it was better suited to warmer weather.
One note before we go further: I used to be extremely wary of grapefruit as a note. This was due to a disastrous experience in my early teens with Clinique “Happy” (mainstream) where it turned astringent and just plain wrong on my skin. Upon learning from Fragrantica that grapefruit is a main note of “Happy,” I blamed the fruit and vowed to stay away from it. Years later I would try a different grapefruit scent and actually have a lovely experience, causing me to reevaluate my reaction to “Happy.” (I’ve since learned the culprit was apple, whose fragrance molecule contains aldehydes, which I sadly cannot wear. I don’t think I like lily-of-the-valley much, either. Yes, this means I miss out on a lot of great fragrances.)
Admittedly, I was expecting more of a fougère when I tested this, like a very citric unisex scent. I am actually surprised by how low-key the lavender is. The opening grapefruit packs a delicious punch – it is ruby red and sparkling (but not aldehydic). After settling, the vanilla surges to the fore and turns this into a Grapefruit Creamsicle, if that is possible; though next to the skin a slightly perfume-y grapefruit is still detectable. (The notes, surprisingly, don’t contain vanilla, only coumarin / tonka bean.) I am genuinely shocked at how good this is.

The next two fragrances I tried both by themselves and layered with others.
Arcana Craves
“Fresh Ginger” – fresh, bright, spicy, juicy ginger root
Out of the vial, this alternates between smelling like grated ginger and… pickled ginger. I’m not joking. No joke, I was visualizing wasabi next to it. And on the skin… whooooooo boy. GINGER LOVERS UNITE!
This is a ginger HG. Perfectly consistent, and perfectly piquant – never powdery. On its own the longevity is between 5 and 6 hours; and so far I would say it’s the same when layered with “Garnet Grapefruit” for a spicy citric punch.
I’m not normally a “layer” person, but “Fresh Ginger” can presumably be layered with many types of fragrances: citrus, floral, resinous / spicy, etc. It’s extremely versatile. I’m also just as likely to wear this by itself (like I do my “Candy Cane”).
Rating: 5/5 – Now I just need to find a wasabi perfume…
“Garnet Grapefruit” – The simple scent of refreshing, citrusy red grapefruit. More of a literal interpretation than a perfumey scent.
One of my main wishes going into this one was that it wouldn’t be like “Peach”: beautiful on my skin but gone in 20 seconds. Luckily, I can smell “Garnet Grapefruit” on my arm after a workday has passed; however, the scent always hugs the skin. In order to get this hyper realistic grapefruit to project, it must be layered over something.
I have actually enjoyed layering this over Possets “Dance with Me,” believe it or not! It does make that grapefruit more food-like and less “sparkling,” but no less enjoyable. And both GG and FG actually make quite the layering pair (as I’d thought when I purchased these).

“White Cake” – vanilla-infused white cake with a fine, delicate crumb
This one was a surprise 1mL freebie in my order; unfortunately, I have a bad history with a lot of cake scents. They’re usually too sweet for me, especially when not combined with a grounding, non-gourmand note. I opened that vial and the first thing I smelled was icing. Thick, sugary buttercream. I almost didn’t even test this at all, but told myself to quit being a big baby and dabbed a small amount on my arm.
Yes, at first this was pure icing, and I thought about scrubbing. I felt like the mean Ms. Dubrow at the end of Dunston Checks In (childhood favorite), submerged in a ruined multi-tiered cake. (It’s not a pleasant downfall in the movie, and it wasn’t pleasant for me to smell.) Eventually, however, it calmed down into a crumbly vanilla scent. I can’t imagine how sweet “Yellow Cake” must be if it’s sweeter than this, since the beginning of “White Cake” almost made my teeth hurt. I suppose I could play around with layering this… but I really don’t want to.
Rating: 1/5 – aaaaaaand my streak ended
The next two scents were for the purpose of comparison, and a revisit to a house with which. I haven’t had much luck.
Poesie
“Athena” – sun-baked Mediterranean herbs and earth, a rich and resinous vanilla spiked with a complex blend of incense and spice, exquisite grey musk
This was a fragrance I had quite a while ago – long since ran out. I’ve been thinking about getting a FS, but instead I decided to compare a sample to another one that seemed to have similar notes. In any case, “Athena” was the only Poesie fragrance of the sample set I’d bought that actually worked with my skin. (“Black Cat Cuddles” also wasn’t too bad, though it did get quite peppery on me.) I think it worked because it wasn’t a sweet scent – all the sweet scents all had a kind of Band-Aid / plaster accord in their base. But not “Athena.”
And this revisit was much the same: dry vanilla, the kind that makes me envision cracked Mediterranean earth. Then the rosemary hits. In warm weather the rosemary is much stronger, but in winter the vanilla still wins out in the end. This is refreshing, not to mention soothing to smell on an upset stomach.

“Villa Diodati” – pungent wild rosemary and fresh balsam pine, crystal clear lakewater, dry, dark vanilla
I have been curious about this one for a long time. On its face, the notes list seemed similar to that of “Athena,” but the lake aspect intrigued me. Finally, I procured a sample in the destashes to form a comparison.
And lake water is, in fact, the star of this show – coming to the fore in a cologne-like aspect, enough to remind me of Davidoff “Cool Water” (mainstream). This reads quite masculine to my nose. While it’s a very pleasant scent, incorporating the rosemary and pine (not much vanilla to be had) into its aquatic nature, it’s still something I would rather smell on my (hypothetical) boyfriend than myself.
Although I’m glad I still like it, because the vial slipped out if my had when I tried to close it, and about half the contents spilled onto my rug. ☹
Rating: 4/5 – If you’re looking for an indie alternative to “Cool Water,” look no further.
“Selene” – magnolia grandiflora, moon musk, calming clouds
This was a freebie, and one I couldn’t recall from Poesie’s catalog. So I went into this truly blind. Sniffing out of the vial I couldn’t pick up much, and the fragrance doesn’t heavily project on skin. However, it is still a detectable amber accord. Normally I dislike amber, but I was able to tolerate it here because it leaned slightly more “candle” than “powder,” and wasn’t combined with something that would give me a headache (e.g., sandalwood, which I often see is combined with amber). I guarantee the “clouds” portion of the notes list means amber. I’m more surprised that I wasn’t able to pick up the magnolia specifically; but then again, I’m not a floral perfume fan.
Rating: 3/5 – it’s nice, if you like this sort of thing
Altogether, I’m wondering if Poesie is a house worth revisiting formally – outside of the teas, which I already love. 😊 I just know to stay away from their sweeter accords. Like perhaps “Oyster!” or “Bijou,” or even “Forest Cat”…
Nui Cobalt
“Snow Cat 2022” – lightly toasted marzipan, ivory amber, chilled coconut milk, and the soft fur of a purring kitten
This one was another freebie in my haul (from the direct NC order). The Cats Collection never really interested me, except for maybe “Ginger Cat,” so I couldn’t recall the notes I’d seen for “Snow Cat” (before or after re-blend). Therefore, this is another one where I went in totally blind.
Out of the vial, this smelled vaguely citric… maybe rhubarb, instead? And then the coconut hit, and I got optimistic. Perhaps this would be like “Avalanche,” but maybe even better? I tested with high hopes, but sadly they were not delivered upon. The drydown for this was quite amber-like (much like Poesie “Selene”), except there was also something in here that reminded me vaguely of cough medicine. (I don’t like the smell of almonds, so maybe it was the marzipan accord doing this?) Alas, it wasn’t strong enough for me to consider scrubbing, and before the four-hour mark it was gone.
Rating: 1/5 – no purrs to be had here, sorry
“The Wings of the Morrigan” – soft, smokey leather with a splash of red wine, an offering of black cherries and bitter chocolate, the steel and stone of the battlefield
Another freebie, and one which I had completely forgotten existed! No idea what to expect when I sniffed the vial (though I assumed it had everything to do with Celtic mythology and not Dragon Age). The accord I picked up reminded me of the sparkling ginger ale of “Atrophilia.” I can’t wear aldehydes, so this made me a bit nervous to test…
It doesn’t “sparkle” on the skin, though. The dominant note I pick up is cherry, and unfortunately I’m not a cherry fan (due to its similarity to almond). In the base there definitely is a smokiness and something that I can now identify as leather – it must be synthetic, because I didn’t break out in hives at the testing site (I’m allergic to birch, and birch tar is often used for leather notes). I can see the gothic appeal for others, but sadly this is not for me.
Rating: 3/5 – swooping is bad
“Ghost Train” – stark white copal, cedarwood, coal dust, grey cashmere, cardamom, toasted marshmallow, and shining steel
I remember wanting to try this one because it sounded so weird, even though another NC fragrance I’d purchased due to perceived weirdness wound up not working for me at all. (That was “Excelsior!”) However, by the time I received this I actually forgot what it was supposed to smell like altogether. Prior to testing, I worried this would be too metallic (the “train” aspect), but on skin this bloomed.
For the most part, this was a deliciously spiced marshmallow. I hesitate to call it a cinnamon hot cocoa concoction, because it was more sophisticated than that. And running underneath this sweet & spicy accord was something metallic, yes, but also something… green. Just slightly green. Almost like ivy growing over an abandoned train car. (I think the “green” in this case is cardamom.)
And then it hit me: this was what I’d wanted Fantôme “Ectoplasm” (spooky, goopy marshmallow over bone-chilling white musk, sweet amber, a gossamer sugar glaze, dark myrrh, and creeping greenery) to smell like! That one had just been the marshmallows, though (I didn’t get the “creeping greenery”) – but here, I also got the eerie train car, likely filled with ghosts.
Rating: 5/5 – nice to be so pleasantly surprised
“Sultry” – two dark, lascivious vanillas swirled with dragon’s blood, heavy velvet musk and the secrets of an old rootworker’s conjure cabinet
This is a GC fragrance that was sort of on my radar, but I was surprised to smell something so… “traditional” out of the vial. It smelled heavily of amber, which really doesn’t work on me, and I genuinely wondered for a bit if there was a sandalwood note I missed (the dragon’s blood is rendered cold here). On skin it didn’t develop a whole lot, though it stayed for several hours before becoming just slightly soapy. Not offensive enough to be a scrubber, but so completely not me. It reminded me a lot of Haus of Gloi “Depravity” (clove, nutmeg lurk amongst the sweetest offerings of coconut, on a bed of rich golden amber, laden with dustings of sandalwood and spilled wine) in its profile – “Depravity” projects more, though. Altogether, very much a femme fatale boudoir scent.
Rating: 2/5 – calling all femmes fatales…
“Seduction” – opulent flowers, piquant cloves, warm scarlet musk and hoodoo roots tangled in a potion of simmering vanilla
The last of the freebies was the second to last sample I tested, and honestly… very similar to “Sultry.” The only difference was a note in the middle like toasted coconut. But otherwise, almost identical “traditional” development with slightly soapy drydown.
Rating: 2/5 – eh…
“House of Identity” – smoked vanilla, sweet resins, red musk, marshmallow, and fiery woodsmoke
The final fragrance I tested was the only one I ordered directly from NC (along with my two candles), because it was the only one from the Astrology collection that I thought I could wear. I remember thinking it sounded incredibly interesting.
In reality, this smells like toasted coconut and cucumbers drowning in cologne. At times this has almost the same masculine aroma as Poesie “Villa Diodati,” but other times it’s definitely more of a “perfume” than “cologne.” Perhaps that makes this totally unisex, but for vaguely aquatic or even subterranean coconuts I much prefer NC “Medusa” to this.
Rating: 2/5 – just reminded me of other fragrances I liked more
The end of this testing run kind of fizzled out, after an amazing beginning. Altogether, out of 13 fragrances I plan to keep 5 – which, on the surface, isn’t a lot; but both my FS bottles were slam-dunks! So in terms of volume, it’s about fifty-fifty, which (with these kinds of hauls) is a pretty good turnout. I also have a feeling I’ve tried everything from NC that will work on me, for the time being, and should give that house a rest in favor of others.

Let's say I want to generate batches of 4 images for 4 different prompts. Let's say I want to make a movie poster, and once I want it to paint Bruce Willise, once Brad Pitt, once Leo DiCaprio, and once Arnold.
I know I can use the prompt S/R of the x/y/z plot script and then use like this:
the most badass poster of MY_KEYWORD, explosions in the background, 4k,8k,whatever whatever.
And then in the S/R prompt MY_KEYWORD,Bruce Willise,Brad PittLeo DiCaprio,Arnold
But there are a few problems with this. One is that this crates a big image, and if I have too many keywords, it just runs out of memory for the grid and errors out. So I just want it to create a small grid of 4 images per name and then move on, without creating a huge grid.
Second, I can't queue different prompts like this. Let's say I want to go to sleep and have it render different prompts at night. I want it after it finishes generating my action movie posters to continue to a different prompt (With other names)
Is something like this possible?
I guess if this isn't possible with the built-in tools I can generate a txt file with prompts. But I'm not sure what the correct syntax is. Can someone help me out?

Now I've only got the standard version of FL Studio 20 - the usual plug-ins are all there. But as far as the Plug-in presets\Effects menu is concerned, I'm a bit puzzled with which effects to apply the Rhodes, and in which order, to get either a nice wah-wah-type or Uni-Vibe esque sound. An example of the wah-wah pedal is Jimi Hendrix's 'Voodoo Chile (Slight Return)', and a Uni-Vibe pedal example is Pink Floyd's 'Breathe'. Of course both sounds are quite different. Does anyone have some advice?

I have an LG UBK90 as my 4k player. This weekend I sat down with the kids to watch boxtrolls. All the movie did was skip, pause and freeze. We watched other movies and not a single issue. This is the first time this has ever happened. How do you tell if it is a disc issue, or a player issue?

Hi, I need some advice for a new 4K TV.
I want to stay on 65" and I'll use it mostly to watch TV series and movies from Netflix, Prime video and similar; 4k HDR content from an HTPC connected to it and some sporadic gaming from consoles and PC.
I'm looking for a good and wide color reproduction and a good HDR but I'm not an expert and I don't know which display technology should I choose.
Most people suggested me to go with an OLED but I'm a bit scared of it because I'm not very happy with the idea of getting burn-in and image retention after spending about 1000/2000€...
What's your opinion?

Searching for something better then the Logitech Z906 and cheaper then the Sony ht-a9.
Hey all, I am in desperate need of some advice. I currently have the epson eh-tw7000 projector and a screen and am looking for audio to match. I have been reading up and it becomes way to expensive way to fast. I don't want to spend thousands of dollars and I don't want to spend another month researching or upgrading over a long period of time. I want to buy, set it up and enjoy the movies and music.
Room set-up
The sofa is against the back wall. Does it even make sense to go for 5.1 in this situation? The back speakers will have to be placed on the sides of the sofa. I live in an apartment so I balance my bass with my neighbors in mind. A powerfull sub will therefor just go to waste.
What I have considered
I bought the logitech Z906 and brought it back. It seemed great to not have to buy a seperate receiver and it had really good reviews. But it lacked in every way for me. No mids and the bass had no range. This let me to consider upgrading my budget drastically which brought me to the Sony ht a9. But with the larger subwoofer it is just too expensive for me at the moment. I also wonder if it is well suited for my room at all and not just a waste of money.
Usage
We watch movies almost daily. Everything we watch is streamed/downloaded. We will also use it to listen too music regularly. This will most likely be streamed wirelessly. I currently have a amazon alexa connected to a pair of really large active monitor speakers which have to go due to their size. The reason describing my usage here is that I worry an investment in a really good audio system will go to waste due to us making these choices for convenience rather then optimal quality.
Aesthetic
The front speakers can be very tall and will be wall mount. Due to the limited space with furniture I would prefer they are not wider than 8 inches.
Location
I live in a large European city and the second hand market is big and also a direction I am considering.
TL:DR
I am searching for any recommendations for a home cinema system which is better then the Z906, doesn't break the bank like the Sony ht-a9 and is relatively convenient in usage.
