Beckley Square Dance

2023.04.21 22:33 Rfunkpocket Beckley Square Dance

Beckley Square Dance
square dance with a live band. please don’t take this for granted. I have no affiliation with this event, and won’t be able to attend. as a someone who square dances in both America and Europe, this is something I only see at major national and state conventions. what a local treat!

Introduction

Katu Veo, wastelanders! Today we will dive into the Pitt – the remains of the territory of the pre-war steel capital of USA - the city of Pittsburgh. We've already been diving shallowly, exploring its history as part of the DLC for Fallout 3 and discussions about the Capital Wasteland. It was then about the years 2255 and 2277, and, unfortunately, we did not know the exposition to earlier events. But now we do with a new story-driven add-on Expedition to Pitt for Fallout 76 being released,

History of the region: 2077-2104

Let's explore the historical lore presented.
Pittsburgh was very badly damaged during the bombing. After all, the Steel Capital of America is a very attractive target in the war. It is unclear, however, where the bombs fell, because there is no wasteland that we could explore. As a result, the city was in ruins, and the air was filled with poisonous gases, which began to turn part of the local population into mutant troglodytes.
There were labor unions in the city before the war, in particular Union Local 42 and Union Local 29, the structure of which formed the basis for the formation of settler factions, the alliance of which forms the Pittsburgh Union. At the same time, after the war, in addition to labor unions, raider groups began to appear, which slowly also began to merge into a single homogeneous mass, forming a faction of Fanatics. It is not clear what their zealous beliefs are about, whether they have any ideological background in the name, but they were diabolical sadists. For years, the Union and the Fanatics have been in a state of full-scale war for the city.
One of the groups of raiders keeps to themselves, who transform into a company of mercenaries Hellcat Mercs Company, maintaining conditional neutrality, and working with those who pay them. But they are mostly paid by Fanatics.
Union Local 42, located in the Industrial District, had at its disposal The Foundry, which produced ammunition and other equipment, as well as an outpost The Penn in a nearby residential quarter. Union Local 29 was based in the Sanctum, an old cathedral with a grotto, and also had a Trench Camp on the opposite side of the Trench. We will name it like that ourselves, because Bethesda decided not to introduce any names of outposts inside the location. I also admit, there is no clear division between the territories of Unions in the game, and my division of the territory is my speculation for the convenience of perception and preservation of the integrity of the narrative.
Speculating about approximate locations, I should note that cathedrals in the states practically do not have underground tombs and especially such large ones as we see in the Sanctum. After all, American cathedrals were not built in the era of the Crusades, and in Pittsburgh the oldest existing cathedral was built in the middle of the 19th century. The current building of the Cathedral of St. Paul is best suited to us as the location of the Sanctum, being the center of the Pittsburgh Diocese, although it was built in the early 20th century. Accordingly, the Trench will be in the eastern part of the city. There are no clear hints to indicate the approximate locations of the Penn and the Foundry.

Before 2104

By 2104, the situation for the Union is very deplorable. The alliance is losing territory after territory, and civilians are leaving the city en masse. During the so-called "Bloody Thursday", Fanatics seized the Foundry from the 42nd Union and the Sanctum from the 29th. At the Foundry, they stopped producing steel, because they did not have the technology, but simply converted it into a chemical laboratory. Probably that was even more humiliating for the Union than the seizure itself. They turned the Sanctum into a concentration camp for slaves, most of whom were refuges war in this very cathedral.
The Fanatics also seize the Trench itself, blocking all approaches to the Sanctum for the Union. Thus, the outposts Silo, Train, Overpass, Waterfall, Radstag, Central Pole were erected in the Trench. All these names are non-canonical.
As for the Hellcat, Fanatics eventually forced them out of the territory of Pittsburgh, as they realized that they no longer needed their services. Hellcats travel to Appalachia, where in 2104 they will be hired by Edgar Blackburn and eliminated by the Blood Eagles in Vault 96. We thought they had HQ and the backbone of the faction somewhere outside the wasteland, but as it turns out they don't. They all fed they soil of the Appalachian land with their corpses.

2105

Yes, as just the last time, I will conditionally, shift the date to the next year after the events related to the Brotherhood of Steel for the convenience of time perception relative to other events in the region. In Appalachia, Responders II are being reformed, as an organization dedicated to helping those in need to survive. They are establishing Whitesprings Refuge center in the resort of Whitesprings, inhabiting the building that has been empty for the last quarter of a century.
A refugee from Pittsburgh, a member of the Union arrives to Whitesprings and tries to recruit someone to help his faction in the war against Fanatics. Of course, such a person will be a Vault Dweller.
While the Dweller arrives in the Trench region, the Waterfall outpost is massacred by trogs. The rest of the outposts are more or less holding out under their onslaught. The Dweller helps Union Local 29 eliminate a foreman of Fanatics by breaking through the outposts of the Train, the Central Pole and the Overpass, and eliminating raiders in Sanctum. There were practically no prisoners left alive, so there was no one to liberate. Retreating to the Trench Camp, the Dweller is caught by a rad storm, which provoked the troglodytes to crawl out to the surface and gnaw through the remaining outposts of Fanatics that the Union did not destroy themselves– Radstag and Silo.
In the Industrial District, everything is somewhat simpler: the Dweller on behalf of the Union Local 42 needs to take out several high-ranking raiders in the area, steal documents and destroy the chemical laboratory in the Foundry. During the raid, a flock of trogs attacks the Penn, but the Unioners manage to drive them away, even though the defenders suffered serious losses.

After 2105

That's all the lore that was brought with this add-on. There are very big doubts that Bethesda will return to Pitt and will further develop its history, so we can think of some conclusions.
Obviously, the Union will eventually lose this war. It is difficult to predict what will happen to Fanatics, though - either they will break into independent groups, or they will retain their structure. But in any case, in one form or another, the raiders will be defeated in 2254 by an expedition of the Brotherhood of Steel going from California to Washington, and in 2277 a Lone Wanderer will destroy the raider empire of Ashur.

Introduction

Katu Veo, wanderers! Welcome to the Lost Holotapes channel. We continue to talk about the history of the Fallout world, settlements and factions. Today we will explore once again the Appalachian wasteland, and will analyze a new turn of historical spiral, which is revealed to us with the story updates of Steel Dawn and Steel Reign DLCs.

History of the region: 2104

Background

After Brotherhood of Steel's connection between California and Appalachia was severed in 2093, Roger Maxson, the supreme elder, organizes an expedition to the east. The Brotherhood group led by paladin Leila Rahmani had a long and dangerous journey across the continent, the purpose of which was to restore communication with a remote branch. This time, the very name of the expedition - First Expeditionary Force - makes it clear that it is chronologically the first expedition of the Brotherhood of Steel.

2093-2104

The journey of the expedition was full of difficulties. In the Sierra Nevada Mountains, raiders captured it, which is not surprising, because according to even Fallout of Nevada, the Sierra Nevada Mountains were teeming with raiders. The captured members of the expedition were tortured. But those who escaped such a fate managed to carry out an operation to free the rest. One of the knights led the wounded back to Lost Hills, fortunately, they did not go far, and a group of 4 people continued the way, although they were recruiting wanderers in the wastelands all along the way. Anyway, the expedition reached the Midwestern region, but completely lost contact with Lost Hills in the Rocky Mountains. In Midwestern, they visited a nameless [Midwestern Settlement], which was attacked by raiders. Paladin Leila Rahmani, who does not believe in the idea of the priority of technology over human lives, decides to act against the raiders with a united front, and also provide brotherhood-owned weapons to the defenders. Unfortunately, they lose another battle, in which one of the knights dies. They lose their assembled big guns too. Passing through Ohio, they lose another part of their equipment, which as trophies was claimed by some local raiders.
No matter how harsh the road was, but the expedition managed to get to Appalachia and settled into the pre-war observatory, converting it into Fort Atlas, a base that was solely prepared by a local volunteer Russell Dorsey, for what he was honorably titled the rank of a.. recruit. There are only three people left from the original expedition – paladin Leila Rahmani, Knight Daniel Shin and scribe Odessa Valdez. At this point, the gameplay part of the DLC Steel Dawn begins.

Fallout 76 Steel Dawn: 2104

As a primary mission of the newly established Brotherhood of Steel: Appalachia II, Leila set fixation in the region, establishing communication with local settlements and recruitment. Oddly enough, a Dweller of Vault 76 comes to Fort Atlas, driven by curiosity, and joins the ranks of the organization. The Brotherhood engage itself in helping local settlements to get some attention, reputation, trade options and etc.
The Putnam Residence is established in the region, which is being threatened by feral ghouls who have settled in the Orwell’s bunker. The Brotherhood helps them get rid of the threat.
Also, help is needed for another new settlement – The Retreat, which was built on the site of the former Treehouse Village, which was built and abandoned by Free States in 2081. Blood Eagles under the leadership of Dagger were threatening them from newly rebuilt base of Daggers Den inside previously destroyed buffout warehouse in Brianna Hawke's Cave. Oddly enough it was just the Eagles who got the Brotherhood's weapons that were lost earlier in Ohio. The Dweller deals with them, the settlement was saved, and some of the weapons were reclaimed.
Next, the Brotherhood needs to reclaim another portion of their lost weaponry from the Crater raiders and Settlers. In addition to weapons, the Brotherhood got hold of a Makeshift Vault, which the raiders had organized into their outpost a little earlier. The settlers handled the found weapons without issues, after they lost a whole group of people to self-detonation, trying to test a rocket launcher. During the search for the sole survivor of this group, the Dweller destroys mole miners in the Kerwood mine.
Despite the weapons obtained, Knight Daniel Shin believes that it is a big mistake to concentrate on help to the local population, and that it was necessary to throw forces into establishing a connection with Lost Hills. He generally criticizes Leila for the incident in Midwest, and for the fact that she is now setting priorities incorrectly. But he can't break the chain of command. He expects that when communication with the base is restored, he will definitely report to the leadership about the sabotage of his field commander, and Leila will be given to court-martial. But the fact is - Leila has long been disappointed in the ideas of the Brotherhood. She considered her superiors cowards and senile. In the Appalachian expedition, she saw an opportunity to separate and become an independent faction. Therefore, she did not give the command to find a way to get in touch with Lost Hills, and when Odessa accidentally found a suitable transmitter in the abandoned Enclave Station J, Leila destroyed it. She revealed all her motives and caused a conflict with Shin, who now, in theory, had to take control over the expedition and court-martial his superior paladin himself. But a sudden underground attack of super mutants on Fort Atlas forces them to put aside their differences and stand up for their new home. The battle for Fort Atlas started and was eventually won by the Brotherhood. That concludes the events of Steel Dawn and Steel Reign DLC carries on the storyline from this point.

Fallout 76 Steel Reign: 2104

After the attack of the super mutants on Fort Atlas, the Brotherhood learns that the Foundation was also attacked. But they also managed to fight back. However, the Foundation reports that super mutants have settled in Uncanny Caverns. The Brotherhood squad destroys the super mutants lair having casualties.
It turns out that in Appalachia there is a group of scientists led by the odious Dr. Edgar Blackburn, who even before the war worked at West Tek on the FEV virus. When he worked there, he hated that the state was developing Pan-Immunion Virion not as a cure for all diseases, but as a bio-weapon. After 27 years, he wanted to continue his work and create exactly the medicine. But here's the problem: he needs experimental samples. He needs humans to experiment on.
In order to get them, he hires a company of Hellcat Mercs, who begin to kidnap people in the region. Blackburn discovers an open Vault 96, which was a platform for genetic experiments. Its inhabitants, scientists, under threat of death, had to carry out mutation studies on living creatures left with them in cryo-chambers. In 2080, this group of scientists died trying to destroy the artificial intelligence of the vault, which in turn activated the security system. It was an ideal place for Blackburn's experiments, where he moved in with a detachment of Hellcat for protection. His team is holed up in West Tek's underground lab with another squad.
HQ of Hellcats, most likely, is based outside of Appalachia, because they have no base and no administration here. Maybe they are from Pitt or Virginia. By order of Blackburn, they, in particular, organize an attack on the Blue Ridge Caravan, who were waiting out a rad-storm in a train tunnel near Harpers Ferry.
The Hellcats also tried to kidnap a squad of Crater Raiders, but Brotherhood interfered and saved Raiders for some reason. Thanks to the clues found at the site of the caravan's disappearance, as well as Pip Boy in Uncanny Caverns, the Brotherhood goes to Vault 96. But this vault had previously been raided by Blood Eagles, who killed all the Hellcats guarding the facility. Having dealt with Blood Eagles, the Brotherhood captures Dr. Blackburn and rescues some of the still living prisoners of the caravan, sending them to Foundation. Unfortunately, Blackburn took measures before his arrest and handed over samples and materials to complete the research to his partners located in the underground laboratory of West Tek.
The Brotherhood, led by Rahmani and Shin, infiltrates the facility and demands scientist to stop the experiment. During the negotiations, they release Blackburn, who promised to disable the system using a code that only he knows. But he deceives everyone, and, wanting to prove the effectiveness of his version of the virus, injects it into his neck. His experiment failed. Blackburn turned into a super mutant behemoth, and the Brotherhood had to fight him.
Leila, contrary to Shin's demand, accepts scientists into the Brotherhood as valuable addition to scribe department. Enraged, Shin decides to finally sever ties with the Brotherhood in Appalachia, pick up some of his loyal followers and return back to California on his own. The Dweller receives the title of a Wandering Knight and that concludes the story plot of the Steel Reign DLC.
However, the developers have added another location for Blood Eagles – Metal Dome, a base and a gladiator arena, which is associated with a daily quest, but which does not have any significance in the lore yet.

Ep11: Appalachia, pt.5 (2103) // Fallout 76: Wastelanders

Introduction

Katu Veo, wanderers! Welcome to the Lost Holotapes channel. We continue to talk about the history of the Fallout world, settlements and factions. We ended the last episode on a positive note – on the destruction of Scorchbeast queen. Today we will begin to talk about resettlement of the wasteland once it became safe enough.

History of the region: 2103

Settlers

2103 started, the intermediate period for the wasteland between the destruction of the Queen of the scorchbeasts and the beginning of the events described in the Wastelanders DLC. The scorched virus has stopped spreading, the scorchbeasts began to gradually die out, and the scorched started to turn into stone. People are returning to the region from the Capital Wasteland, from Pitt, from the south, from everywhere. Next events happen before October 23, 2103.
Diehards are returning to the region under the leadership of Meg Groberg. Many raiders outside Appalachia, mainly from Pitt, joined them. They settle on the ruins of the crashed orbital station and call their new home Crater. They no longer identify themselves with Diehards, so they change their name to Crater Raiders. Meg Groberg, after she founded the Crater with raider Fishbones, removes her fellow partner from leadership position, forcibly sending him into exile to the Ohio River Adventures Camp so that he leads only a small group of raider fishermen and does not interfere with her ruling in the Crater. Many raiders do not like Meg Groberg. Someone considers her too soft, someone does not approve of the admission of ghouls and super mutants into the ranks of the raiders. In addition to the Crater itself, the raiders organize a Crater Watchtower.
Settlers. For a more apparent antagonism to the Raiders, the developers decided to allocate a new independent settlement, organized by those who came to the region, into a separate dedicated faction. But we won't call them like that. Technically, the settlers who came to the region organize a simple regular settlement on the ruins of the Spruce Knob resort, called Foundation not the actual distinctive faction. The settlement is based on refugees from Pittsburgh, and its leader is Paige.
Not far from Flatwoods, an enterpriser Duchess, a former pre-war drug dealer from Welch, established Wayward bar, which is also home for her and her partners.
Two large groups also arrived into the region, which from the very first days of their presence became almost the main threat to all other newcomers. Firstly, this is a group of tightly beaten raiders Blood Eagles. Bloodthirsty and merciless, they were heavily addicted to drugs and hooked civilians on them, forcing them to join their gang for new doses. They always have three ringleaders to be able to revive the gang, in the event of the death of one of them. Enlarged to monstrous proportions, they captured and re-equipped a bunch of remaining camps and posts from raiders and previously untouched locations. Among them are Summersville, Bloody Frank in Berkeley Springs, Watoga Underground, Southern and Northern Camps of Cutthroats, Crosshair, Crimson Prospect, Ripper Alley, Hunters Ridge, Cliffwatch, Pigsty, Killbox, Forest Camp, Widow's Perch, Rollins Labor Camp, The Sludge Work, Skullbone Vantage, The Vantage, Bounty, Central Mt. Lookout, Seneca Gang Camp, the Whitesprings Lookout, Brianna Hawke's Cave, which they use as a buffout warehouse.
Secondly, it is Mothman Cult - a gathering of religious fanatics who decorate interiors with grotesque figures made of tree branches and pieces of human bodies, worshipping the cryptid Moth-Man. They are also very aggressive towards non-cultists. They existed even before the war, although after the war they left the region, lay low and were revived in 2103. They settled in the following locations: the towns of Point Pleasant and Helvetia, Clancy Manor, Ingram Manor, Lucky Hole Mine, Blake Offering, Moth House, Sacrament, Kanawha County Cemetery, Johnson's Acre.
Historical background. Point Pleasant is a real–life city in which there is a real-life Moth-man Museum. It was near this city in the 50s of the 20th century that people allegedly saw a creature called a Moth-Man, which is rooted in local folklore, as well as the Flatwood Monster, the Grafton Monster and Wendigo.
Another independent settlement appears – Anchor Farm.
A group of soldiers who once helped the Secret Service transport gold from Fort Knox, but found themselves outside of Vault 79, and, later leaving the region, returns and settles in Jeremiah's bunker, known in the game as the Ransacked Bunker.
Also, the Blue Ridge Caravan Company comes to the region, which, as the name implies, specializes in caravan services. It begins to supply the new settlers of the Appalachian region with essentials and goods from other regions, mainly southern like Kentucky. They occupy the Western and Eastern entrances to the Big Bend Tunnel, organizing bases for themselves. As a logistics company, it existed even before the Great War.
From the Capital Wasteland comes the Sargento’s Gang, which settles in the Watoga Civic Center, becoming the first who, along with the Blood Eagles, resettled Watoga after the Great War. The main activities of Sargento’s Gang were the slave trade and the organization of gladiatorial fights between slaves.
In addition to Sargento, Edwin’s Gang comes to the region from the Capital Wasteland.
A small Tato Cult appears in the region, appealing to the vegetable tato (post-nuclear potato) as a deity.
There was another strange faction of Scavengers, who settled in the radioactive Emmet Mt Disposal Site. They are not associated with any quest or part of the plot. Probably, with further updates of Fallout 76, their role to the story, as well as the role of the Blue Ridge Caravan, will be expanded.

2103

We have examined the factions that have repopulated the region. Now let us see what was going on between them before the game events of 2103 began.
Settlers from the Foundation organize a small research Plateau Camp in the mountains a little south of the settlement.
July. Reactor failure occurs in Vault 79. Many of the remaining Secret Service agents who survived the mutiny are ghoulified, many die from radiation. Only six people remain alive.
Blood Eagles seize Twin Pines Cabins from super mutants, but lose the Whitesprings Lookout after an attack by robots patrolling the adjacent resort.
In addition, the Eagles took hostage the Beckett brothers from Edwin's gang and get them hooked on drugs, forcing them to join their gang. At some point, Beckett Sr. begins to resist this development of events, but you cannot just get leave the Eagles. He is being caged at Camp Rollins.
For some reason, the cultists leave Helvetia. Perhaps because of the invasion of the scorched.
Free Radicals, whom we talked about only in the first episode of Appalachia, have finally left the prison of Western Maryland to arrive to the WV Lumber Co of the city of Friendly, which they capture from super mutants. After wandering around the neighborhood for a while, they find the Anchor Farm and force them to tribute some of the supplies monthly so that they do not attack them.
Mole miners traders abandon Berkeley Springs Station and move into Rusty Pick pub.
A guy named Crane appears on the horizon, who stumbles into Wayward bar and spreads rumors about the hidden treasures in Appalachia and that he knows how and where to get it. Rumors attract Free Radicals, and they come to Wayward for information. In principle, at this moment, the gameplay part of the DLC Wastelanders story begins.

Fallout 76 Wastelanders: 2103

The player, in the person of one of the Vault Dweller, appears in a bar and enters into a conflict between Wayward and Radicals. Further, in short, there is a chain of quest events, during which a Dweller destroys the Eagles' camp in Summersville, finds a false “treasure” of RobCo, gives mercy to the scorched Crane and reconciles Wayward with Radicals.
Next, a still-living overseer announce herself in the region, and finally we can talk to her live. During her quest line, the Dweller learns about the real Appalachian treasury – Vault 79, still closed and not looted. The overseer suggests opening the vault and use the US gold reserves to somehow restore the economy in the region. Nevertheless, before trying to get into the vault, it was necessary to found a team, and also provide this team with protection from the scorched virus. On the instructions of the overseer, the Dweller invents a vaccine that the Responders were not able to finish. With immunity from scorched, people could no longer be afraid of a new epidemic. With the dying colony and the inability to infect people en masse, the threat posed by the scorchbeasts became less and less dangerous.
The Dweller then contacts the Raiders and Settlers, provides them with a vaccine, and helps them with their quests, the apogee of which was to be the choice with which team to go to open the vault. Looking ahead, I will say that I chose the path of the Settlers, so let us start with the quests of the Crater Raiders.
In the course of their quest, the Dweller recruits several characters for the possible opening of Vault 79, destroys the base of super mutants in Grafton Steel, and takes part in the gladiatorial fights of the Sargento gang in Watoga, from arena of which he has to fight his way out. After the commotion and possibly destroyed fences, a few, but still dangerous scorched went inside the Civic Center of Watoga and finished off the Sargento Gang, having infected slaves and members of the group.
Furthermore, a mutiny takes place in the camp of the raiders. Raider Lev is trying to take away the leadership of the group by force. Of course, the player needs to suppress this rebellion in order to free the captured bomber. An outcast raider group of Lev (Lev's Raiders) seizes the Poseidon Power Plant on the outskirts of Charleston, and there, in a battle with a Dweller of Vault 76, he dies.
Now let's talk about the history of the Settlers. In parallel with how the Dweller established contact with them, the scorched attacked the camp on the plateau. At that time, the vaccine had not yet been transferred, so the camp was destroyed. The Dweller offers the Settlers to open Vault 79. They did not have a demolition man and for their plan, they needed to dig a tunnel to the vault using a pre-war Motherlode machine, an automatic drill, and a rock collector invented by Hornwright. Trying to get Motherlode, the Dweller finds Penny Hornwright, a skilled engineer and the daughter of a mining magnate who could operate the machine. During the war, she became a ghoul and could not find a home for herself. For example, she was in Charlotte, NC, where she was kicked out for becoming a mutant.
Next, the Dweller needed to get a Chinese invisibility suit, which he does by attacking the remaining Chinese underground base The Deep. Also, the Dweller recruits soldiers who have settled in Jeremiah's bunker, who relocate to Foundation.
Right before the operation, there is a fleeting incident with the raiders who took Penny hostage, but it does not prevent the plan from being carried out, and in the end, the vault is opened. Inside, the group repairs the generator and saves the remnants of the Secret Service from feral ghouls, discovering an immersive gold reserve. They agree on economic cooperation with the Secret Service. As I understand, the Secret Service will control the turnover of gold on the market or something like that. In any case, Vault 79 will be considered a settlement onward. In principle, this is where the main storyline of the DLC Wastelanders ends.
However, there are still secondary arches. Significant from the point of view of the plot is the war between the gangs of Edwin and the Blood Eagles, initiated by the Dweller.
The Dweller receives Beckett Sr.'s transmission and comes to rescue him at Rollins' camp. Released, Beckett gather his former Edwin’s gang and learns that the Eagles have kidnapped his little brother Frankie. The Dweller and Beckett, in search of Frankie, raid the Eagles' camps, eliminating their leaders. During the quest, Edwin's health deteriorates greatly and his niece Ronnie takes over the leadership of the gang. In the last act, the group attacks the Eagles' base in Watoga, where they discover that Frankie, hooked on drugs, has become one of the leaders of the Eagles. However, he was managed to be pulled out of the clutches of the gang and sent to rehabilitation.
In general, in the course of the quest, the following bases, camps and outposts of the Eagles were destroyed: Rollins Labor Camp, Sludge Works, Seneca Camp, Crimson Prospect, Skullbone Vantage, The Vantage, Watoga Underground, Brianna Hawke's Cave, Bloody Frank’s.
The following camps and outposts of the Mothman Cult were also destroyed: Ingram's Mansion, Blake's Offering and Johnson's Acre.
There is another secondary quest related to astronaut Sofia Daguerre. She was sent into space as part of a space mission before the war began and was plunged into a long sleep. It was also part of an experiment, the meaning of which was to establish a neural connection between a person and a computer. Roughly speaking, the computer received all the information that passed through the human brain, without direct connection to it. In 2103, the ship that Sofia and her crew were in crashed in the Appalachian Mountains. Only she survived, and the Dweller helps her find her dead comrades, as well as to break the connection with the computer, which was bringing Sofia unbearable headaches. In the course of the tasks, the meaning of which was "find something somewhere, bring something somewhere", the Dweller destroys two camps of the Cult of Mothman: Clancy Manor and the House of Moth, as well as the Nicholson camp of super mutants.
This is where the events of the Wastelanders add-on end. The region can finally take a break from constant wars and conflicts... at least for the next six months, because the Expedition of the Brotherhood of Steel is soon to come to Appalachia from California.

Introduction

Katu Veo, wanderers! We continue to talk about the history of Fallout, settlements and factions. In the last episode, we discussed the second act of the history of Appalachia from 2082 to 2086 and ended with the tragedy at Harpers Ferry. Hordes of scorchbeasts destroyed the city and made the whole region tremble in fear. The factions needed to unite in a coalition in the war of man and the beast. Did the disparate groups manage to unite against a common enemy? Today we will talk about this.

History of the region: 2086-2096

After 2086

At an unspecified point of time, but clearly after 2086, the following happens:
Mosstown and Tritops fall under the onslaught of scorchbeasts. It is known that this happened after the tragedy of Harpers Ferry.
In the area of 2086-87, Firebreathers posts in Welch and Beckley were abandoned. Melody Larkin informs Hank Madigan about that, what puts their downfall in an adjacent time period, as of Lewisburg’s.
A starving group of refugees from Harpers Ferry, led by Brianna Hawke, raids the cabin of the Sunday brothers. The personal conflict between Jesus Sunday and Brianna over Jesus' brother, JD, adds to the special acuteness of the situation. During the raid, a fire starts, which destroys all the Sunday farms. In this fire, as well as due to a result of a shootout, everyone dies.
Margie McClintock, the leader of the Diehards, is increasingly depressed after the disappearance of the Palace. She reaches the ultimate point, takes a bag of chems and goes to get her last trip. Meg Groberg, a member of the group, suggests that the raiders should leave the region, as it becomes too dangerous because of the scorchbeasts. Judging by the absence of any further recordings, the whole group left around 86-87.
Different factions are starting to work on fighting the scorchbeasts. For example, Free States, with the hands of Abby and her father Niraj Singh, invent a system for detecting and luring scorchbeasts, setting traps for them.
Hank Madigan of Firebreathers gets excavator armor and ultracite weapons from the headquarters of the AMC in Watoga.
The Brotherhood of Steel builds anti-aircraft installations and organizes containment camps around the perimeter of Cranberry Bog: Firebase Hancock, Firebase Major, Firebase LT, Thorn, Forward Station Alpha, Forward Station Delta, and Drop Site V9
In addition, the Brotherhood begins to break the alliance with Responders and Free States, brazenly taking away their resources and technologies to make up for their own excised ones. They thought they could handle the scorchbeasts on their own, and they did not have time to play politics and trade. Responders and the remnants of Free States were unpleasantly surprised by such shamelessness of the Brotherhood.

2088

End of April. A group of Cutthroats in the Big Bend tunnel, who had lost touch with their leadership, are surprised to find a camp of the Brotherhood at the Big Bend’s East Entrance, with whom they negotiate a small trade. The Brotherhood's outpost perceived them as an independent community, unrelated to the raiders, and that makes them completely retire and become just a settlement. Their group became known as Benders.

2091

There is a mutiny in Vault 79, organized by Agent Shorty. Many died in this battle, but the rebels failed to achieve success.

Before 2093

Under the onslaught of Sierra Bravos (the so-called scorchbeasts by the Brotherhood), Brotherhood leaves all its positions to concentrate all its forces on its 4 main bases: Camp Venture, Fort Defiance, Big Bend East and Thunder Mt. Thus, they lose Forward Bases Alpha, Delta, Major, Hancock, LT, Thorn, outposts of Spruce Knob, Grafton Dam and Huntersville and Drop Site V9.
At the same time, super mutants scattered across the wasteland return to Huntersville.
In the catacombs of the Burrows settlement, a squad of Brotherhood scouts dies, who tried to track down the cause of the accumulation of a huge number of robots in the sewers of Harpers Ferry.
In addition, the Brotherhood conducts a research trying to invent some kind of poison at the University of Morgantown, but the Montgomery’s squad doing this dies and fails to complete the work. In the lore, this mission is known as "Operation 099-01". After that, despite the requests of the scribe Grant McNamara, the leadership of the Brotherhood refused to carry out this operation again. And that was in vain, because perhaps it would have helped them in the war.
Roger Maxson knew about the problem of the scorchbeasts and strictly forbade the use of nuclear charges, which Brotherhood also somehow found out about. This ban greatly undermined the relationship between the West Coast and Appalachia, which was already on the verge of despair from constant losses and minimal success in the war with the scorchbeasts.
However, the connection itself began to gradually break off, as the satellite providing it slowly began to go out of orbit. In the end, it falls, and Maxson sends First Expeditionary Force led by Leila Rahmani to Appalachia. In the future, when passing through the Rocky Mountains, the connection with them will also be lost. This expedition is officially the first expedition of the Brotherhood of Steel.

2093

July 20. The Brotherhood of Steel leaves Camp Venture. Only Fort Defiance, Thunder Mt and Big Bend East remain.
NovembeDecember. The Battle of Grafton takes place, and Responders lose it. It is not clear with whom the Respondents fought, but apparently, taking advantage of the weakening people in the region, super mutants began to increase their power and probably attacked the settlement. At least super mutants will own Grafton by 2102.
Flatwoods constantly experiences its own difficulties with wild animals. In the period from 2093 to 2096, 8 people died from paws and teeth. In addition, Flatwoods faced interruptions in the supply of food and, as a result, there was hunger. When trying to set up an agricultural production system in the agricultural center of Vault Tec on the outskirts of the city, security robots were accidentally activated, which by November 11 forced people to completely abandon attempts to even approach the complex.

2095

Before 2095, the raiders left Tygart Water Treatment plant. It is then became occupied by Amy Kerry, a scientist who studied water, air and soil to determine how the scorch virus affects the environment.
January 29 – February 2. The Brotherhood conducts Operation Touchdown. Elizabeth Taggerdy, Johnny Moreno and the rest of the Brotherhood's best fighters marched through Cranberry Bog into the Glassed Caverns, establishing temporary Survey Camp Alpha and losing people along the way. They tried to blow up the caves to block the scorchbeasts exit routes to the surface. The mission was essentially suicidal. Although the task was completed, the whole squad died. After that, the number of scorchbeasts began to decrease, so everyone thought that the operation was a real victory. In the Brotherhood, the leadership was taken by scribe Grant McNamara and paladin Ted Wilson.
The inventor of the scorchbeasts detection system, Niraj Singh, dies of the disease at Free States.
March 10. Firebreathers raid Brim Quarry, where they discover a new kind of strange and semi-intelligent creatures - Mole Miners. Moles are mutated former miners who live almost only in the region of the Ash Heap. Semi-intelligent, living underground, aggressive towards everyone who is not them, they can interact with each other, have a primitive language of communication, use firearms, and one of the moles is even a vendor in the game, which certainly suggests that they are much closer to a definition of a new race as super mutants rather than to the feral ghouls. A group of Firebreathers did not organize a post and left although they cleaned the mine. Later, the moles returned and retook control of the mine again.
March 12. Due to unwillingness of Responders to give out Amy Kerry's research, even under the threat of physical violence, the alliance of the Brotherhood of Steel and Responders is finally breaking apart.
On June 3, scorchbeasts became active again. With even more frenzy, they break out to the surface and begin hunting. The Brotherhood of Steel abandons their camp at Big Bend East and evacuates to Fort Defiance, preparing for a long siege. McNamara again demands permission to conduct a research in the University from Ted Wilson, but again receives a refusal, reasoned by the fact that there are already few people left. In the coming battle, everyone is needed.
Throughout the summer, The Brotherhood of Steel has been besieged both at Fort Defiance and at the Thunder Mt, gradually losing people and defensive equipment, until Fort Defiance falls on August 18, and Thunder Mt on the 19th. The Brotherhood of Steel Appalachia is exterminated.

Before 2096

Before 2096, a plethora of camps and outposts of raiders were established, and it is unknown when they actually appeared and disappeared. However, by 2096 it is already clear that they have been destroyed or abandoned. Among them are the Freak Show, Johnson's Acre, Vantage, Skullbone Vantage, Ripper Alley, Cliffwatch, Clarksburg, Knife Edge, River Treehouse, Camp Dent & Sons, Crashed Plane in the Mire. Considering that the raiders ignored the danger from the scorchbeasts to the last, and the lack of evidence of fighting them in the camps, I think that all the camps actually died even earlier.
The same though is applied to Cutthroats camps such as North and South Camps, Bleeding Kate Grindhouse and The Sludge Hole. Thus, Cutthroats kept Pleasant Valley, the Summersville Dam, the Charleston Capitol and Sutton.
Everything was great for super mutants. Somehow, they restored their population and continued to spread over the mountains, as well as descend down to the plains to the west and east, because the scorched virus did not affect them. They seized not only Grafton from Responders, but also Horizon Rest, devouring its inhabitants.
Before 2096, Firebreathers had their own tragedy. In the course of an unsuccessful exam for joining the division, held in the Betty's Belch mine, the entire squad of examinees dies, opposing the scorched ones (What is strange, since it was too early for them to appear in Ash Heap at that time)
Aaronholt Homestead living apart from everyone dies as a result of the conflict between the brothers. It is known that they saw scorchbeasts, so they died around 2096.

2096

The year of 2096 was the last year of life for the human population in the region. The denouement of the war with the scorchbeasts has come. In fact, this final act is described very confusingly, because the chronology of many fundamentally important events in various sources of lore is sometimes given with contradictions or geographical illogicalities. What happened this year is probably the most speculative part of the entire history of Appalachia.
After the fall of Brotherhood of Steel, scorchbeasts begin to fly more and more actively to the east into the mountains, threatening raiders and settlers in the forests beyond the mountains.
The only remaining group of dissidents in the region are Cutthroats. Unlike them, Responders took the danger from the scorched seriously. Firebreathers understand that impassable mountains, in principle, more or less restrain the hordes of the scorched, but the weak point for a breakthrough is the Big Bend railway tunnel passing under the mountains, connecting the plains of the Forest and Cranberry Bog. Then they decide to blow up the tunnels, but before that Hank had to go as a scout to still surviving Free States.
In the spring, Hank gets to the Free States bunkers, but accidentally damages the scorchbeasts identification system. Together with them, he develops a plan according to which he had to deliver a radio receiver or something to the highest point of Appalachia – to the Top of the World building, which is part of Pleasant Valley resort. After the activation the system of recognition, luring and destroying scorchbeasts, could cover the entire region and it would become much easier for people to fight with scorchbeasts and, for example, the turrets would be able to recognize only the scorched. But Hank fails to fulfill his mission: when he reaches the Top of the World, David Thorpe, who still foolishly adheres to the "no negotiations" policy, kills him, condemning the entire region to imminent death.
The last representatives of Free States, not waiting for the result of Hank's mission and cut off from the rest of the region, are gradually dying out: Abigail Singh followed Hank to the Top of the World, but did not reach it. Ella Aimes died during a scout mission and Raleigh Clay just disappeared.
After the arrogant Cutthroats killed Hank, they themselves were doomed as well. In the spring, hordes of scorchbeasts staged a Valkyrie Flight to Pleasant Valley, infecting and killing raiders. Cutthroats were not able to resist such an opponent who caught them by surprise. David Thorpe himself became scorched. I admit that despite the fact that Pleasant Valley was destroyed, Cutthroats still had outposts of Summersville Dam, Sutton and the Charleston Capitol in their possession, since at that time the scorchbeasts had not yet attacked the plain west of the mountains. Nevertheless, some of the raiders were able to evacuate, descending from the mountains to the west and in a stampede capturing some locations along the way.
A couple of days after the fall of Pleasant Valley, two survivors came to the Big Bend tunnel and told the Benders about what had happened. But the Benders did not have time to evacuate, as hordes of scorched broke into the tunnel from the east and destroyed the settlement.
July 6. Claire Hudson, a medical scientist of Responders, begins to develop a vaccine at the AVR Medical Center. Firebreathers are very much counting on this vaccine, because the scorched are already beginning to seep through the Big Bend tunnel and spread through the western part of the region. Without the vaccine, they would not have been able to get inside the tunnel to set up the charges and detonate them. They were also still waiting for Hank and the success of his mission.
It is not clear when and under what circumstances, perhaps not even in this period of timeline, but the settlements of New Gad and Summersville Dock died. Perhaps they were seized by super mutants, perhaps the scorched broke through. Maybe before the fall of Morgantown, maybe later. At least it is known for sure that the super mutants captured the outpost North Kanawha Lookout of Responders, devouring its rangers.
And now the mess with Flatwood begins. It is known that until June 15, all Responders at the call of Maria Chavez left their posts to come to the support of Morgantown, which slowly began to move into a state of siege. Accordingly, Responders leave Flatwoods, Point Pleasant and Camden Park. There is a whole medical journal in Flatwoods, which states that there are no Responders in the city at all, but the presence of corpses of Responders in the city suggests that they, seemingly returned later.
On July 24, Morgantown repels the first wave of scorchbeasts. There are significant losses.
Until August 1, there is some kind of fight in some Free States bunker, judging by the log entry in Flatwoods, which was made by a man who left this bunker and went to the Allegheny Asylum. It is not very logical. Although it is not clear why he made such a detour, because Brotherhood's Fort Defiance has already been fallen for a year, but it is quite possible that there really was a fight in an undefined bunker and it was the actual end of Free States.
On August 12, the scorched flooded AVR center in Charleston and left, scaring Claire Hudson. If we take this date as the relative speed of the advance of the scorched to the north, then somewhere at the same time the outposts of Cutthroats located nearby are dying: the Dam, the Capitol and, later, Sutton, finally destroying the raiders. The evidence of this is the groups of scorched on the territory of these locations and the traces of their attack.
The last message that indicate the absence of Responders in Flatwoods is dated by September 1. It means that after this date they returned and missed the final battle of Morgantown, since the corpses of the Responders are present in the settlement. Cullen McLeader, who then went to Morgantown, left the record and, strangely, did not cross paths with either Responders returning back to Flatwoods, or with Responders in Morgantown, which had already died out by his arrival in the city. Probably he left Flatwoods on September 1, made a big detour in 2 months, and came to Morgantown just after the final battle. This is the only possible explanation that does not contradict the chronology of events.
On October 20, Claire gives up trying to invent a vaccine against scorch virus and leaves the laboratory. Firebreathers leave their camp of Rusty Pick bar and Charleston Fire Department and move to the Big Bend tunnel to meet their last fight and try for luck to break through hordes of scorched without a vaccine and scorched detection system to blow up the tunnels. Unfortunately, they do not succeed and perish.
November 5th. The last mark of Dassa Ben-Ami in the journal. The raiders, driven by the scorched, pass through Flatwoods and destroy the settlement, as evidenced by presence of their corpses in the city.
Also, the raiders seize Camden Park, but later they themselves die for some unknown reason.
November 7. The Final Battle for Morgantown begins. A horse of scorchbeasts and scorched besiege the city. Unfortunately, this story does not have a happy conclusion. All people died out.
It can be assumed that with the fall of Morgantown, the active presence of people in the region ceased. Only a couple of isolated groups remained.

Conclusion

A tragic story awaited people in Appalachia. The scorchbeasts practically exterminated them all. But, as a rule, after the black stripe comes the white one. Thanks to the efforts of the dwellers of Vault 76, the threat of scorchbeasts was eliminated after 6 years, but we will talk about this in the next article.
If you see a scorched one, don’t play a hero and run for your lives so that I will see you in wastelands, lone wanderers. Fisher’s out!

Introduction

Katu Veo, wanderers! Welcome to the Lost Holotapes channel. We continue to talk about the history of the Fallout world, settlements and factions. We ended the last episode on a minor note – on the extermination of people in the Appalachian region. Today we will begin to talk about their revival, thanks to the efforts of the Vault 76 dwellers, and will examine the 4th act of the history of Appalachia: 2096-2102, marked by the destruction of the queen of the scorchbeasts.

History of the region: 2096-2102

After the events of 2096, during which Mother Nature completely suppressed the presence of people in the region, super mutants and mole miners began to breed in some incomprehensible way.
Super mutants scattered throughout the wasteland, mainly in the regions of the Forest, Toxic Valley, Mire and Savage Divide. They established camps, outposts, and large bases in a bunch of locations, in addition to the ones they already have in Huntersville, Horizon Rest, North Kanawha Outpost and Grafton. These are WV Lumber Co in Friendly, Twin Pines Cabins, Grafton Steel, Relay Tower HH-B1-12, Relay Tower LW-B1-22, Wade Airport, Cravasse Dam, Mystery Cave, Nicholson Trailer Park, Converted Munitions Factory, Eastern Penitentiary, Harpers Ferry, General Steakhouse, West Tek, NIRA (National Isolated Radio Array), Sunnytop and New Gad.
Only those locations where super mutants are canonically located are mentioned. Locations where they appear randomly are not taken into account. Harrison Malone's super mutant gang also occupies Grafton Dam
Mole Miners that have come to the surface also take control of many locations in addition to the Brim Quarry, while the hordes of scorched begin to deteriorate out in quantity, turning into stone. Almost all of their outposts and bases are located in the Ash Heap. Among them are the cities of Welch and Monongah, the Blackwater Mines, Kittery Mine, Elaine Mine, Kerwood Mine, Burning Mine, Mount Blair, Abandoned Mine Shaft 3, Hornwright Air Purifier Site 3, and Berkeley Springs Railway Station.

Fallout 76: 2102

No events occurred before 2102. People are already gone. On October 23, 2102, Vault 76 opens, and the inhabitants of the shelter get out from the opened geardoors. Their main task was the restoration of America, civilization, while the task of the overseer was the preservation of the remaining nuclear warheads. At this point, the actual game part of Fallout 76 begins. Anyway, due to the fact that there are practically no survivors in the region, there are also no events during the main quest line. For the most part, the player, who personifies all the scattered inhabitants of the vault, prowls through the ruins here and there, fights with super mutants, moles, ghouls, scorched and all sorts of animals, painstakingly studies tons of left notes and holotapes to restore the entire chronology of the past 25 years.
Nevertheless, in the course of the main quest line, the Vault Dwellers restore the scorched detention system, finishing the work of Hank Madigan, receive the rank of general to gain access to the silos and launch a nuclear bomb at the nest of the queen of the scorchbeasts. After that they, united for the final battle, fight the demon, ending the epidemic of the scorched virus.
In the course of quests, including side quests, the Dwellers find themselves in locations belonging to super mutants and moles, as the only to some extent intelligent creatures of the wasteland at the moment. We will accept the convention that they are forced to find themselves in certain places and destroy the creeps there, according to the storyline. After the visit of places super mutants and mole miners are no longer present there, because the respawn of them is a game mechanics, and not part of the lore entity.
So that in 2102, in the course of quests, the Dwellers destroy super mutants in Grafton, Eastern Penitentiary, West Tek, NIRA, Horizon Rest, Sunnytop, Harpers Ferry, Huntersville and the Malone gang on Grafton Dam. They also destroy a group of miners in the Blackwater mine.

Conclusion

This is the end of a short period of the life of the Appalachian wasteland from the point of view of eventfulness. Nevertheless, the destruction of the queen of the scorchbeasts secured the region so much that people began to return to repopulate the wasteland again and create new settlements and factions. In the next episode we will look at them as we continue to analyze the history of the Appalachian wasteland and pay attention to the struggle between new factions for the treasures of Vault 79.
Don’t kill your fellow vault dwellers unless you don’t want the whole server to hunt you don’t and see you in wastelands, lone wanderers. Fisher’s out!

Introduction

Katu Veo Wanderers. We continue to talk about the history of Fallout, settlements and factions. In the last episode, we started a discussion about the Appalachia wasteland and stopped at the Christmas Flood. Today we will continue to study this region and cover the period from 2083 to 2086. So let us get straight to the point.

History of the region: 2082-2086

2083

In January, after surviving a flood, Responders and refugees from Charleston relocate to Morgantown, establishing a settlement at the airport. However, they will still make forays to Charleston during the year, raking through the rubble, looking for someone and something that survived and burying corpses. In addition to the evacuation to Morgantown, some of the refugees went to Harpers Ferry, managing to get through the Raiders' mountains. Some of them also settled in Burrows.
After the Christmas Flood, the raiders, feeling the taste of blood and domination in the region, begin to descend from the mountains, establishing new outposts. On January 11, one group of Cutthroats sets up a camp at the west entrance of the Big Bend Tunnel. Although they are still considered members of Cutthroats, this particular group has extremely mixed feelings, being shocked by what David Thorpe did to Charleston.
David himself, saddened by the death of his beloved Rosalynn, whom he actually killed himself, acquires a Robot Rose, in which Rosalynn's personality was embedded. In addition to territorial expansion, Cutthroats are beginning to expand in personnel. To do this, Rose's radio signal was recorded with an appeal to join the ranks of the gang, which was distributed throughout the Appalachian territory.
Meanwhile, the head of Enclave, Eckhart, in order to formalize his legitimacy as president of the United States, conducts elections through automatic polling stations and wins, since only the soldiers of Enclave voted.
However, things are starting to go badly for Enclave. At the end of the year, the last person in the rank of general dies. Thomas Eckhart, who wanted to destroy phantom China, knew that there were three inactive missile silos on the territory of Appalachia, storing never-released charges in their bowels. By all means, Enclave had to gain access to them and hit China as part of a holy war. The problem was that the US government for once provided a foolproof system. DEFCOM is an automated hazard assessment system for the United States. Assessing the danger levels, this system did not allow the activation of nuclear charges if the level was low. Moreover, the system did not allow anyone who is not a general in rank to do this.
When Summersville Lake finally became shallow after the flood, the settlement of New Gad was founded on its bottom in order to retrieve all the good that had been resting in the lake all these years. In addition to New Gad, another settlement appears on the site of the drained lake - Summersville Docks.

After 2082

Quite a lot of events occur in the time interval between 2082 and 2086, without exact year specification. So, after 2082, the following happened:
Bleeding Kate's Grindhouse establishes a trade relationship with Lewisburg. Being at the same time a silver screen cinema, they organize the showing of films for a fee. Apparently, the gang's lieutenants were unaware of such a relationship. Moreover, the cinema team organized a search for holotapes that contained the joyful faces of people in order to montage them into a positive film. It is very revealing, and very cool, that the game's script writers demonstrate the heterogeneity of the attitude towards the ideology of the factions by its members, especially such radical ones as Cutthroats.
Hunters Ridge appears in the Forest, which consists of several houses and platforms on trees connected by scaffolding. At some point, for alleged protection, two hunters build a pit with stakes, where after a while they throw off two hapless travelers for fun. After a conflict with the rest of the hunters, they go to the mountains at the call of Rose, and after a while they return with a squad of Cutthroats to destroy the camp.
The pre-war city of Tanagra, after the explosion in Vault 94, rises up with mutated stems. This quirk of nature interested Enclave, which set up a field research Tanagra Camp near it. Enclave also establishes a research Glassed Caverns Camp, in which ultracite was mined before the war.
Gourmands, following Cutthroats, also descend from the mountains, leaving Spruce Knob resort and moving to the pre-war summer children's club for especially rich offspring called Bolton Green. Things were going well for them: successful ambushes on caravans, sufficient supplies of human meat, pleasant gatherings around a night bonfire with beer, country music and discussion of whose meat tastes better – men or women. At some point, after the gang members started to disappear, it turned out that their leader - Morris and his wife succumbed to the sin of gluttony and began to devour their own. They are thrown out of the gang, and the couple is forced to find shelter in caves, where Morris finally turns into a wendigo. Gourmands themselves disappear under unclear circumstances, leaving no clues.
The raiders also seize Tygart Water Treatment plant and turn it into a slave trade center. The raiders keep slaves in vats of water, where many die from dysentery. However, the raiders themselves get it as well as they took the water from the very same vats. Although the raiders of Tygart were never specified, I am sure that they were Cutthroats, since no other group of the raider alliance was engaged in anything like this. Gourmands would have cooked soup in these vats, and Diehards would have let everyone go and apologize for caused inconveniences.
In addition to Tygart, Cutthroats seize the ruins of Summersville Dam and Charleston Capitol, which has been turned into a torture chamber for captives. They also establish an outpost in the ghost town of Sutton. In addition, some unidentified raiders descended from the mountains and established a post in the deserted Clarksburg.
The town of Harpers Ferry has been keeping defense against feral ghouls all this time. Since after the apocalypse, many people still did not understand all the rules of the game, they were unaware that in addition to wild ghouls, there are ghouls in sober memory and sanity. One day, a normal ghoul appears in Harpers Ferry, whom nurse Lucy Harwick, after evaluating his cognitive abilities, hides in her office in order to study and try to find a cure for such a condition. Unfortunately, they were discovered and Lucy was kicked out of town. Wandering through a radioactive swamp, Lucy gets ghoulified herself. Realizing that she and that person are not the only ones of their kind, she establishes a settlement in the abandoned Valley Galleria shopping center specifically for ghouls.
In a fairly short period after the death of Charleston, in Morgantown the last students of the Houses of the Roof and the Street died off. One of the witnesses of the war, in one of her notes, mentioned the flood in Charleston. Apparently, they died from radiation sickness.
After what happened in Charleston, the Responders understood that they need to create their own force structure. Moreover, they came up with a reconnaissance mission to the area of the Ash Heap, which was a very dangerous and polluted place for ordinary scouts. A squad of Firebreathers was founded, led by Melody Larkin. They organize a training course on the ruins of Charleston, and Charleston Fire Dept becomes their base.
Blackwater Bandits eventually understand the reason for their painful condition, hair loss, deaths and the low effectiveness of chemicals. But it was too late. In the end, all the bandits died or got ghoulified.
Thomas Eckhart sent Ellen Santiago to the abandoned McClintock Army Camp to complete a formal course for obtaining the rank of general. She gets her title the same way Eckhart gets the presidency, but this fiction upsets her more than makes happy. Now Enclave has to deal with the DEFCON system. To increase the level of danger in the region, Enclave begins to release super mutants, liberators and conduct new experiments with animals, seeking to create dangerous creatures.
Enclave leaves Fujiniya base due to constant breakdowns and robot attacks from the inside. After a while, Responders came and set up food production in Mama Dolce, a canned food factory covering the Chinese base.
The Brotherhood of Steel also goes west through the mountains and establish a base on Grafton Dam. The original member of the Taggerdy’s Thunder squad – Corporal Johnny Moreno is appointed as the person in charge. A trade route is organized through Grafton Dam between Morgantown and Harpers Ferry. In addition, Brotherhood organizes an outpost at the Spruce Knob resort abandoned by Gourmands.

After 2083

Scientists of Enclave in the field laboratory of Glassed Caverns by chance manage to create scorchbeasts. In general, Eckhart kept all soldiers in the dark about what scientists were doing, so as not to cause them to reflect on the ethics and morality of methods of achieving victory. However, even without this, dissatisfaction with the chosen policy course is slowly brewing in Enclave. People are starting to get tired of the senseless war. With the achievement of creation of scorchbeasts, scientists leave field camps.
Scorchbeasts are a colony of mutated huge bats irradiated with ultracite, which have a matriarchal system. The queen of the scorchbeasts controlled the entire brood through a collective mind. They synthesized the Scorched Virus in their bodies, which they could spray and infect other creatures with. Infected people begin to bleed, their skin to peel off, and crystals of ultracite begin to emerge on the surface of their bodies from the inside. Like zombies, they were losing their own minds, connecting to the collective mind, and the whole point of their further existence was to wander through the wastelands, aggressively react to any uninfected creature and attack with the aim of killing or infecting a new victim. In general, any infected creature was turning into a controlled minion. At the end of the life cycle, the so-called scorched, were turning into stones and disintegrating.

2084

By the beginning of 2084, scorchbeasts began to slowly fly out of their caves. The earliest mention of them was on February 15, when Judy Blackwell, the daughter of Samuel Blackwell, who lived with her father in the last active bunker of Free States, saw a creature flying in the region. But the creature saw her too and infected the girl. Sam Blackwell wanted to take his dying daughter to the Whitesprings Bunker in exchange for his life, as he understood that Thomas wanted to kill him. However, Sam does not have time to make a decision and Judy died. Defeated Sam Blackwell left his bunker and was the last of the Free States to join Harpers Ferry.
Having recovered a little, Responders begin to make sorties and establish outposts. They establish camps and outposts in Grafton, Point Pleasant, Lewisburg, Flatwoods, at the Camden Park in Huntington, and take control of the North Kanawha Lookout. Their main mission is to help people in the region survive by providing shelter, medicine, protection from attacks of animals and all kinds of bipeds, food, supplies and training through online courses. One of the most important outposts for Responders is the town of Flatwoods, to where they came on February 20. The leader becomes the responder Dessa Ben-Ami.
July. General Santiago herself becomes in opposition to Eckhart. She does not support his desire to launch missiles and threatens to leave the bunker, depriving Thomas of a last chance to get them. Thomas cannot let her go or kill her. He captures her and puts her into an artificial coma.
September 2. The scientists of Enclave at Station J were engaged in catching mutated animals in the region, examining and conducting experiments on them. The female version of MODUS, SODUS, was operating the complex, although in general, it was under the command of the Whitesprings Bunker. It is quite possible that most of the research was conducted there, and that it was there that the scorched virus was invented, which was tested on bats in 2083. All what is known for certain is that SODUS recorded a certain pathogen in the air near the station, began to turn off life support systems and supply with air from the external environment in order to eliminate all personnel with this pathogen. Judging by the notes, this was exactly the scorched virus. However, it seems absurd that by 2084 the virus had reached the opposite end of the region, as well as the fact that it began to be transmitted by airborne droplets. Anyway, the scorched virus, no matter how it got to the base, infected the animals in the cages, which began to break free. The escaped deathclaw destroyed an entire group of scouts. During the incident, the major part of the center's staff locked themselves in the canteen. Some of them were infected with the scorched virus, and eventually infected all the others. Another group died trying to evacuate, but got trapped in the de-contamination arch. Another group of people locked themselves in free cages, but, being infected, eventually turned into a scorched stone. Not that the Whitesprings Bunker was displeased by the loss of the center: it seems like it itself initiated is downfall by cutting off communication with it and sabotaging the systems.
September was especially successful for Olivia Rivers from the Order of Mysteries, who destroys Garrahan Outpost and four sniper nests alone during the war with Cutthroats.
Not everything was smooth at Flatwoods. Although the city recovered faster, thanks to the help of the Responders, some of the residents, apparently having heard the call of Rose, by the November 1 went to the mountains to join the raiders.
Already on November 8, a group of raiders makes the first raid on Flatwoods, causing serious damage, at least killing several brahmins.
In Harpers Ferry, Sam's paranoia about Enclave worsens and his instinct did not let him down: he noticed an operative in Harpers Ferry in time and killed him. After that, he escapes from the city back to his bunker, where Eckhart's right–hand man, Agent Gray, finds him. Agent Gray kills Blackwell, but dies himself in the jaws of deathclaws, which settled in a cave at the entrance of the bunker.

2085

In September, a group of Cutthroats who had settled at the entrance to the Big Bend tunnel two years earlier moved inside the tunnel, where they set up a base for themselves. A month later, on November 13, they see a giant bat for the first time.

Before 2086

An armed coup is taking place in the settlement of Barrows. The power is seized by a group of bandits, the Barrows Boys, formed in the same place, led by King Marcus. They force all residents to hand over all weapons and start getting supplies for them from dusk till dawn. They are also restoring a robotic and turret security system. Many residents are not satisfied with this, and they decide to escape to Mosstown. It is not known whether people managed to escape from Burrows, but at least one of the refugee groups was ambushed by assaultrons, which were set up by Marcus to prevent anyone from leaving the settlement.
In Harpers Ferry, there was a group of hunters led by Duncan McKann, a man who lost his entire family due to an attack by feral ghouls and thirsting for revenge on everyone ghoulified. His group tracked down a ghoul settlement in Valley Galleria, which forced the ghouls to escape to Dyer Chemical factory. Nevertheless, the hunters tracked down the ghouls again, and, having lost several people along the way, attacked Dyer. Some of the hunters still recognized former friends in the ghouls and got into a quarrel with Duncan. All the participants in the conflict shot each other and died.
Somewhere before 2086, four new outposts of raiders appear – Knife's Edge, River Treehouse, Dent & Sons Construction and Crashed Plane in the Mire.
Everyone forgot about the super mutants, so they conditionally continued to breed. It is possible that Enclave infected people in the region with the FEV to increase the level of danger. This may explain how a whole gang of Harrison Malone turned into super mutants too.

2086

This year there were a lot of important and turning points for the region.
February 7. The first death in the camp of the Order of Mysteries. Clarissa, one of the original members of the order, dies. The girls understand that things will not get any easier and offer to come out of the shadows and join the alliance of Free States, Responders and Brotherhood of Steel to defeat the raiders. But Shannon rejects the offer, going against the ideology of superheroes in the shadows. Olivia, who did not share much enthusiasm with this whole superhero theme, is increasingly annoyed with it and her mother and believes that they have enough strength, resources and skills to come out from behind the scenes and start seizing territories themselves.
Spring. A squad of Cutthroats under the command of raider Kerry destroys Lewisburg. This group occupies the city after that.
In May, Shannon assigns Eve Devoir as her vice, giving her the title of Mistress of Novice instead of Olivia. This act finally enraged the latter and Olivia started plotting revenge.
Meanwhile, people finally realized that cases of attacks by super mutants on caravan routes and settlements have become more frequent in the region. Brotherhood of Steel, in alliance with the Responders, is organizing a march on Huntersville. In May, Elizabeth Taggerdy gives an inspirational speech to the soldiers, and they march out of Grafton Dam towards the “Citadel of Evil”.
The battle itself in Huntersville was devastating. Brotherhood of Steel's first attack failed and they retreated. The super mutants continued to press and pushed the attackers away from their lair. A raider group of Trappers living in a camp on the Devil's Backbone, who found themselves dangerously close to the skirmish, became an accidental witness to it. When the super mutants retreated to Huntersville after the counterattack, they discovered the Trappers, attacked their camp and kidnapped their leader, Walter Griswold. Even when the battle just started, the Trappers felt that they might get hurt and requested reinforcements from Cutthroats. But they never received it.
The Brotherhood of Steel conducted a second attack on June 1, and it proved to be more successful. It ended the battle of Huntersville with the victory of the people. The super mutants in Huntersville have been destroyed, and Brotherhood of Steel set up their camp there. There is a cemetery of fallen paladins outside the city. Whether the super mutants were completely destroyed or they dispersed across the territory is not clear, because for some inexplicable reason, after a few years, super mutants fully recovered and seized quite a lot of locations.
After the defeat by the super mutants, the Trappers disbanded, leaving a note to David Thorpe to go and get part of the key from the corpse of Walter, rotting somewhere in the city.
Thomas Eckhart is unhappy that DEFCON is slowly raising the danger level. So, somehow, Enclave releases the whole horde of scorchbeasts, as if they had been keeping them in cages all this time. This leads to a civil war within Enclave. Santiago loyalists openly opposed Thomas and the slaughter began. MODUS supercomputer, realizing the threat to itself, released gas and killed all the people: both the awakened Santiago, and Thomas, and all their friends. Enclave of Appalachia has fallen.
June 8. The war between Order of Mysteries with Cutthroats continues. On this day, Olivia destroys the Northern Camp, but leaves alive Brody Torrence, a boy who was rejected by Shannon Rivers 8 years ago, and who is now a member of raiders. She sees him as a great opportunity to end the Order and makes an alliance with David Thorpe, becoming an informant. The camp itself is being restored in a short time.
July 24. The first raider ambush in Summersville on the Order’s operatives. Cutthroats, along with Olivia, kill one of the Order’s lieutenants, Allison Lang, and behead her for to bring evidence of her loyalty. Thus, during the entire existence of the Order, Allison became the third death.
September 13. Cutthroats organize an ambush on another member of the Order at Spruce Knob Lake.
September 20. Olivia goes even further and steals the mainframe of the Order's supercomputer, Cryptos, and takes it to Cutthroats. From that moment on, the raiders know everything about the plans and sorties of the Order, since all the information that the Order enter into their computer is displayed immediately in raiders terminals. Now they could organize ambushes much more efficiently.
September 26 / October 3. The ambush on Natasha Hunt in Lewisburg. Although the ambush was successful, Natasha was able to put down Kerry's raiders located in the city.
October 7. Between July and October, in addition to Allison and Natasha, five more operatives of the Order were killed during ambushes.
And by November 10, three more were killed. The Order of Mysteries and Shannon in particular are in complete despair. There were few girls left, and every step outside the mansion was completely controlled by the raiders, and they still had no idea how the raiders were finding out everything the Order was planning.
November 13. The beginning of the end of the Order. One of the girls caught Olivia picking at the Cryptos mainframe. Pressed against the wall, Olivia had no choice but to openly start slaughter her colleagues, including her father Frederick, and Mistress of Novice, Eve Devoir. She left a message to her mother to meet and take the last fight.
On November 16 Olivia and Shannon Rivers, two skilled assassins, came together in a deadly battle in Seneca Mountains. Olivia kills her mother, but she herself is seriously injured. The raiders arrived in time but raiders, in particular, Brody was not going to save her and just unceremoniously finished her off. Such an inglorious end was met by the Order of Mysteries.
After the battle in Huntersville, Maxson makes a fiery speech that the Brotherhood of Steel is changing its policy, and that now their main task is not helping people in the wastelands, but finding and preserving technology. Disappointed knight Hank Madigan leaves Brotherhood and joins Responders. At the same time, there are also defectors from Responders joining Brotherhood. This all started to worsen the relationship within the alliance. Madigan joins Firebreathers and becomes the second in charge after Melody Larkin.
Palace of the Winding Path mysteriously disappears, leaving no trace. A group of Diehards gets very upset because they were in friend relationships and also they get nervous after the previous death of Blackwaters, Trappers and the disappearance of Gourmands.
But, probably, the most terrible event happened in the Mire. Hordes of scorchbeasts crawl out and attack Harpers Ferry, killing and infecting people who were not ready for such an opponent. A lot of residents are dying, and the survivors are being evacuated wherever they can. Some Free States members are evacuated to Ella Aimes Bunker, Abby Singh Bunker, Raleigh Clay Bunker and Brianna Hawke Refugee Cave. Burrows suffered the same miserable fate: being an underground settlement, it had no chance of keeping the horde of the scorched from swarming the tunnels which eventually killed and infected everyone.

Outro

The fall of Harpers Ferry marked a new stage in Appalachian history. Now a completely new and powerful menace has appeared before the few surviving factions. There is no longer any talk of internecine fuss: a large-scale war between the man and the nature has begun. No one had the right to stand aside, it was necessary to join forces. The next stage in the history of the region from 2086 to 2096 was almost completely given over to this battle. We will examine it in the next article.
Don’t forget to bury all the fallen paladins and see in the wastelands, lone wanderers. Fisher’s out!

Ep7.2: Appalachia, pt.1 (2077-2082) // Fallout 76

After 2078
Two Respondents come to the Cutthroats without permission given by Emergency Government in the hope of establishing good-neighborly contact. However, David Thorpe, the former top manager of Arktos Pharma, kills them for the supplies they took with them. He was at the resort with his mistress, the vulgar Rosalynn Jeffries. The gang leader and his wife – Harland and Margie McClintock are not pleased with senseless massacre, and they are going to judge David. However, there was a split in the gang. Many raiders are filled with hatred towards Charleston for abandoning them to their fate in the winter and take David's side. Still human, Harland and Margie, with a group of raiders who supported them, leave Pleasant Valley for the Sunnytop resort, forming a new group – the Diehards. Although they are engaged in raiding activities, they do it for the sake of survival and try to avoid victims killing only when it was necessary. For this pacifism, other raiders are constantly making fun of them. After a while, Harland dies, and Margie takes the lead. David, on the other hand, becomes the leader of the Cutthroats and inflates the level of cruelty by introducing the "no negotiations" rule.
Charleston is losing control of Morgantown. Despite the fact that the authorities were still operating in the city, the anarchy that struck the minds of the students left no way to hold the city. There were a lot of Greek fraternity houses at the university, which, with the outbreak of the war, turned into separate factions and began to fight with each other for resources, including radaway supplies, since Morgantown was very contaminated with radiation. During the struggle, larger houses absorbed smaller ones. A kind of analogue of feudalism. And so it went on until there were two largest houses left in the city – the Roof House, which held the monorail branch and the roofs of the buildings and the Street House, which controlled the streets. The war between them was very long and brutal.
In the Whitesprings bunker, Enclave realizes that there is no connection to either Raven Rock Base in Virginia or Poseidon Station in the west. Thus, they become an autonomous fragment of the organization. As a result of radiation exposure, according to Thomas Eckhart, the Minister of Agriculture, the Minister of Finance dies and, according to the hierarchical chain, it is Thomas who becomes the acting "president of the United States" and the head of Enclave. He immediately set a course to continue the war with China until a guaranteed victory, and therefore suggested that those who do not want to fight get up and leave the bunker on all four sides. However, it was a trick. In fact, they were all executed in the next room, including one of the two generals. As a result, only 49 people remained in the bunker.
In the Eastern Penitentiary, all prisoners turn into ghouls. Harrison Malone escapes to his gang (Harrison Malone Gang), which has remained active in the region.
Somewhere between the end of 78 and the summer of 79, one of the Free States groups comes out of the bunker and occupies empty Thunder Mt Power Plant. They left before the organized exodus of Free States and managed to dig in at the station, subsequently repelling several attacks of raiders.
In addition to Cutthroats, Diehards, Gourmands and groups of unidentified raiders east of the Appalachian Mountains, Blackwater Bandits appeared in the Blackwater Mine who were skilled thieves, led by Freddy Lang. Another group of raiders was also formed – Trappers, under the control of Walter Griswold. Trappers are survivalists, hunters, and lovers of traps, including explosive ones. They established a camp in the mountains, called the Devil's Backbone.
In addition to the Pleasant Valley Base, Cutthroats establish outposts and camps: Garrahan Outpost, North Cutthroat Camp, Bleeding Kate Grindhouse, South Cutthroat Camp, The Sludge Hole.
A group of Bysshe scientists was alive at least until 2079, since at the end of 2078 there was an explosion in Vault 94, which provoked a mutation of the local flora. Roots and vines of some bizarre plants began to grow in the railway tunnel, blocking the passages and causing a lot of inconvenience to the scientists. They tried to poison the plants, but instead polluted the water purification system with poison and died themselves.

2079

January 1. The survivors at the Whitesprings Resort are forced to leave their shelter as a result of the automated reconstruction process of the resort that has begun, which has blocked all the rooms and forced everyone outside using robots. But the group knew about this in advance, so they calmly planned where they would go. One group went to Charleston, and the other group, consisting of particularly rich and arrogant guests, not wanting to mix with the marginalized and poor in Charleston, went to Pleasant Valley to reunite with people of their class. But they didn't know that everyone at the resort had become raiders for a long time, so most likely the newcomers were simply killed and robbed. The third group seized the neighboring building of the golf club (Whitesprings Gold Club). Although a pack of feral ghouls soon came, and the group was slaughtered.
Between July 15 and August 6, after receiving a signal from Raleigh Clay that everything is clear, Free States leave their bunkers and, having received a request for help, humiliating for the mayor of Harpers Ferry, move to the city. All bunkers except Sam Blackwell's bunker, Gavin McCulloch's Cabin and the Sunday Brothers Cabin are abandoned. The Sunday brothers, although they appear occasionally in Harpers Ferry, continue to live on their farm. Although formally, Harpers Ferry remains under the control of the mayor of the city and the Free States were assimilated, everyone perceives Harpers Ferry as the base of Free States.
In addition, before August 6, Taggerdy’s Thunder arrives at the Thunder Mt and seizes it, allowing the members of Free States who were there to leave it bloodlessly.
After Shannon Rivers has recruited enough orphan girls, she founds the Order of Mysteries, an organization designed to fight villains. All the girls are trained in a training camp in the dungeon of the mansion. The mansion itself becomes their base. The capabilities of this base made it possible to create special equipment for field missions that would help operatives always stay in the shadows and act unnoticed, according to the lore of that superhero movie. The main strategy was to be in complete secrecy. No one was even supposed to know about their existence. This, coupled with the developed hierarchy system, training program, coordination with each other and preparation for missions, made this organization a very dangerous neighbor for the raiders.

After 2079

Sometime after 2079, the cities of Mosstown and Treetops are founded by members of Free States. Having grown stronger with the arrival of Free States, Harpers Ferry begins to establish allied and trade relations with settlements, including with these two and with Burrows, which they found literally under their feet.
Taggerdy’s Thunder has been in touch with Roger Maxson all this time. Maxson was leading Brotherhood of Steel in Lost Hills for two years already, and was trying for a long time to persuade Taggerdy to accept this ideology and turn her faction into remote Brotherhood’s detachment. Taggerdy resisted this idea, but eventually accepted and reformatted her militarized group, which, by the way, was constantly expanding due to new recruits arriving at Camp Venture. Not everyone was happy with all this stuff of paladins, knights, elders, scribes and other attributes. However, since nothing much was additionally required, for the most part only to accept new titles, in principle, everyone got used to it. The transformation of the Taggerdy’s Thunder into the Brotherhood of Steel: Appalachia occurred between 2079 and 2082.

2080

A little earlier before May 2, Harpers Ferry establishes contact with Responders from Charleston and enters into an alliance with them.
In July, Enclave takes an empty West Tek facility and continues research and experiments with FEV.
On August 25, one of the five scientists who did not fulfill the research quota dies in Vault 96. The remaining four are trying to infect the supercomputer with a virus, but it takes the upper hand and kills them on August 31. Vault 96 has fallen.

2081

On September 19, another group of refugees from Free States founded the Treehouse Village, when they, being pursued by raiders, climbed trees and ambushed bandits. They decide to stay there. To establish a settlement they dragged all sorts of building materials and created a village on trees, connecting them together with catwalks. A couple of days later, Gavin McCulloch's group joins them, leaving their cabin.
Judging by the fact that on November 2, Free States are already conducting their own training at the Camp Venture, I think they have invited the Brotherhood of Steel to their alliance with Charleston.
On November 19, under the onslaught of raiders, the Treehouse Village had to be abandoned. Its residents relocated to Harpers Ferry.

Before 2082

A group of nuclear scientists establishes the Pylon V13 camp, using as a basis a monorail support and a train stuck on the line. In the camp, they are setting up an experiment to break the space-time continuum. They do not succeed, and they all die.
Because of the radiation and toxic fumes that flooded the Toxic Valley after the War and the constant attacks of mutated animals, Clarksburg dies out. Many residents leave for Morgantown. Two of the last three residents die in the attack of yao-guai. The city of Beckley experiences a similar fate and gets abandoned.
Enclave seizes Fujinia with the attack led by Agent Gray, killing forgotten guerrillas of the Chinese People's Army and privatizing their developments – from third-generation stealth boys to liberator robots.
Judging by the skeletal remains of some raiders, Ammo Dump dies out somewhere before 2082.
A haven for raiders to the east of the mountains, Bog Town, also dies out due to the declining activity of raiders, provisions, and places to loot.
Meanwhile, the raiders in the mountains are beginning to form alliances. Actually, the first attempt turned into bloodshed at Spruce Knob Lake. During a meeting of negotiating groups of Cutthroats and Diehards, an altercation occurred that escalated into a showdown. But they still managed to assemble an alliance, which included 5 raider clans – Cutthroats, Diehards, Gourmands, Trappers and Blackwater Bandits. According to one of the conditions, they had a common cache with swag, where they put the most valuable loot, and they had a code divided into 5 parts, which were owned by the leaders of the groups. So they needed to support each other. David Thorpe, as the leader of the strongest gang, led the whole alliance. However, the alliance quickly realized that their idea was full of idiocy, since when any gang or a leader die, they all lose their part of the code and, so their entire cache.
Blackwater Bandits started to deal with troubles quite early – one of the raiders accidentally breaks an old pipe in their mine, from which radiation leaks. Over time, the bandits' health begins to deteriorate, and they get even more hooked on chemicals that Cutthroats supplied them. As payment for their impressive debt, they agree to steal a mini-nuke from the Brotherhood of Steel and give it to Thorpe.
One very insidious man managed to repeat in Sutton what the notorious Jim Jones achieved in real world: he appeared in the city as the messiah and turned the residents of the city into his religious commune. After that, he managed to poison people who had lost their vigilance during one of the church services in order to profit from their belongings.
There was also Seneca Gang, which had its own camp, but considering that they are not connected with the raider alliance in any way, most likely they died early enough.
Residents of Helvetia receive information from one trader that a gang of Reavers is coming to their city. Then they decide to evacuate urgently and build a new settlement Horizon Rest on the wreckage of a nearby crashed plane. This happened before 2082, since the Reaver gang, like Seneca, clearly did not live to see the formation of an alliance of gangs.
The Deep still continues to operate as an active base of the Chinese People's Army, but all personnel were ghoulified due to radiation.
It is unknown when the following locations appeared and died and to which raider gang they belonged: Johnson's Acre, Vantage, Skullbone Vantage, Ripper Alley, Cliffwatch, Crevasse Dam, Billboard Junk Camp, Middle Mountain Cabins, and Freak Show. Perhaps they belonged to Cutthroats or other large gangs.

2082

It is known that on January 10, the Responders of Charleston already had fighting clashes with the super mutants of Huntersville, which are beginning to gradually spread across the territory.
The Brotherhood of Steel establishes a new main base, Fort Defiance, on the site of the abandoned Allegheny Asylum, to where they transfer their HQ from Thunder Mt. A new member of the brotherhood, scribe Grant McNamara, restores electricity, generators, installs equipment and generally puts the base in order, for what he immediately earns himself a high place in the organization.
Towards the end of the year, reinforcements arrive at the Whitesprings Bunker. Colonel Ellen Santiago came from Washington, leading a group of loyal soldiers and refugees.
On December 10, there is another conflict between Abigail Poole and Tanner Holbrook in Charleston. As a result of blackmail by Abigail on the subject of bribing the selectorate with supplies before the elections in 2083, Tanner agrees to arrange the first Christmas in the city and donate the stashed supplies.
December 24. Cutthroats thought they already had enough strength to attack Charleston. They organize a raid led by Thorpe's girlfriend, Rosalynn. The raid turned out to be unsuccessful: Rosalynn is captured and subjected to interrogation. David Thorpe finds out about the failure, and thinks that Rosalynn is dead. Then he decides to take revenge.
A day later, on December 25, on Christmas Eve, Melody Larkin goes with a delegation to Pleasant Valley for negotiations, wanting to exchange Rosalynn for a pact of non-aggression. However, they never went far away, as what will be called the Christmas Flood happens. David Thorpe, using a mini-nuke that Blackwater Bandits stole for him earlier, blows up the Summersville dam, which held water in the lake of the same name. Surging water flooded Charleston. Thousands of people died, including members of the government, Tanner, Abigail and captive Rosalynn Jeffries. Some of the Responders and residents survive and in the following weeks, they become busy sorting out the rubble and rescuing the wounded.
For the destruction of Charleston, Order of Mysteries declares war on Cutthroats, but they certainly do not do it publicly.

Outro

This concludes the analysis of the first historical stage of the Appalachian region. In the next episode, the time period from 2083 to 2086 will be analyzed, remembered for the large–scale war of the Order of Mysteries with raiders, the war of people with super mutants and the emergence of a new terrible threat - scorchbeasts.
If you notice that the water from your sink tastes strange and there is a newly built biogenetic laboratory on the outskirts of your town, you know what to do. See you in the wastelands, wanderers! Fisher’s out

Introduction

Katu Veo, wastelanders! Welcome to the Lost Holotapes channel, where we discuss history of Fallout regions. Today we will start talking about the settlements and factions of the Appalachia Wasteland, the territory of Western Virginia, presented to us in the truly first multiplayer installment of Fallout – Fallout 76.
Despite the scandalous nature of its release, the abundance of bugs and the flow of fair criticism, the history of the region itself and the study of the world is a golden seed, although it is incredibly confusing. The history of the Appalachian region is the most dramatic and complex among all the others. Causal relationships, motivations, and personalities of historical characters, complex political games of major factions– it is more like reading a book. Moreover, the form of narration in the form of left notes, holotapes, and terminal entries turns Fallout 76 into a truly detective game. And I adore it for that. I spent days sticking notes on the wall, connecting them with red threads, trying to recreate the most accurate picture of what happened. And I will start sharing my interpretation today. I assure you will not find a more accurate and complete history of the Appalachian wasteland even on the wiki.

Appalachia - Geography

But let's start with the general – with the geography of the region. In real life, it occupies the territory of three states – West Virginia, Virginia and Maryland. At the same time, the developers went really far in trying to distort the real prototype of the territory and decided to turn it all into West Virginia, leaving almost nothing from the other two states. A very strange decision to perceive, given that all states exist in the world of Fallout. More critically, the cities of exclusively West Virginia were used as prototypes in principle, and they have their locations changed in relation to each other. Watoga, Huntersville in real life are in the western part, Morgantown is much norther of Grafton, and Sutton is under Flatwoods.
Appalachia is divided into 6 unique sub-regions in terms of habitat:
The Forest is rich in vegetation and with relatively calm fauna, located on Allegheny Plateau.
Toxic Valley is an area where rivers and lakes have turned into acidic radioactive baths and fumaroles.
Ash Heap is a former mining region in which ash and combustion products are constantly released into the atmosphere, making the region very difficult to settle in,
The Mire is a swampy area that has turned into a jungle, shrouded in poisonous fumes and inhabited by extremely aggressive fauna. It has a border with the Capital Wasteland that passes through the Raven Rock Mountains
Savage Divide is an elevated mountain region formed directly by the Appalachian Mountains,
Cranberry Bog is characterized by an abundance of bizarre mutated flora and progressive erosion, turning the land in the region into trenches.
The wasteland borders the Capitol Wasteland to the east along the Appalachian Trail – along its northern part, inside the state of Maryland. On the western side, the wasteland is bounded by the Ohio, Big Sandy and Tag Fork Rivers, which are state borders at the same time.

Antebellum Appalachia

Before moving on to an exciting post-war detective story, we need to discuss some of the exposure of the region until October 2077. The main leitmotif of the pre-war plot is the desperate struggle of the proletariat against capitalism. Widespread robotization and automation deprived people of jobs and livelihoods, which caused Appalachia to be in a state of local civil war on the eve of the Great War.
While the Sino-American War in Alaska was going on, the hardworking regions languished in the rear. Industrial enterprises inflate the production rate, lower wages, force labor to overwork, reduce all costs associated with production safety and everything like that. The cabal is no different. But work is work, especially in such difficult times. And, of course, no one cares about such trifles as environmental pollution. For example, with the permission of the government, Grafton Steel mill openly drains production waste into the rivers and lakes of the northern part of the region, which in the future will contribute to the drainage of the region, the destruction of its entire flora and its transformation into a Toxic Valley.
However, things get much worse when capitalists begin to introduce robots into enterprises everywhere, depriving people of jobs. In addition, diligent mining companies, in particular Hornwright Industrial, began to demolish the south of the region, blowing up mines for faster ore extraction, as well as cynically producing a local natural landmark – Blair Mount. It competed with its main competitor, the Garrahan Company, for the volume of ore production. Because of such activity, living in the region has become impossible: underground fires, incredibly polluted air, poisoning and soil erosion. The town of Welch was badly affected in particular. People, mostly miners, staged a riot. Demonstrations and rallies were brutally suppressed, for example, strikebreaker robots were sent to the city of Beckley. The rebels even organized guerrilla operations. It is noteworthy that at the heart of this struggle is a real historical prototype – the Battle of Blair Mount, which took place in 1921 as part of the miners' war for their rights. During this uprising, 10-15 thousand miners fought for five days against an army of private detectives and police officers, until the president and the military intervened. An epic story described in detail in Wikipedia - I recommend reading it.
In addition to the aggravation of the situation in the mining region, uprisings occurred in other parts of Appalachia. Thus, the robotic city of the future Watoga, built in 2042, the construction of which destroyed jobs and the local economy, was subjected to a terrorist attack. A leading specialist timidly launched a virus that forced all robots to become aggressive towards people. The army of protectrons and assaultrons staged a massacre in the city the day before the start of the Great War, leaving the residents with no chance of survival other than by fleeing the city.
The reason why the Cranberry Swamp is so radioactive and mutanized is another mining company – AMC (Atomic Mining Company), whose headquarters was located in Watoga and which used nuclear charges to extract ultracite in the region. AMC has agreed with the Poseidon coal-fired power plant in Charleston to process the ultracite at their facility. Because of this, the employees of the station rebelled and came out with a rally. The arrived military used the gas patented by HalluciGen, Inc to suppress the uprisings to disorient the protesters, but the gas turned them into manic psychos who staged ultra-violence. The savage crowd tore apart both the soldiers and the authorities inside the station. Again, this happened shortly before the war and there was no one from the authorities to respond to the incident.

The Great War

Well, we are finally coming to the most delicious – the history of the region after the Great War. Working with the lore of the region is a completely detective theory. It was very difficult to reconstruct the history, as a huge part of it had to be built on logical chains, rather than be guided solely by the actual data from the notes. Moreover, I found developer errors and some events mutually exclusive. There are also a lot of errors and contradictions on the official wiki, so you are unlikely to find such a complex story that is being told here. What is also noteworthy is that the game is still being updated, and Bethesda with new updates introduces a bunch of new historical lore, and also allows itself to change the lore already released earlier. Therefore, it is quite possible that this article will be updated over time with the release of new Fallout 76 updates.

Vault Tec Vaults

By tradition, we begin to discuss the region with vaults. According to the game itself and the register of Vault Tec University there are 6 vaults in the region.
Vault 51 is located near the town of Friendly. Its experiment was to identify the best overseer from a motley number of candidates, of which there were 52 people, using the ZAX supercomputer. People arrive at the vault within a week before the bombs fall. One of the first arrivals was Sergeant Robert Baker, who was appointed responsible for advising ZAX on the choice of the method of appointing an overseer.
Vault 63. So far, the location is not available to players, and there is no lore associated with it either. So neither its fate nor the experiment is known.
Vault 76 near Flatwoods. One of the few control vaults that was supposed to remain closed for 25 years. Its inhabitants are brought up in an atmosphere of exclusivity so that they can “make America great again”.
Vault 79. The entire gold reserve of America from Fort Knox was brought inside. The Secret Service detachment of 120 people remained with the gold reserve.
Vault 94. The experiment was to test how the most peaceful group could adapt to possible aggressive groups during the post-apocalypse. For this purpose, a peaceful religious commune was chosen as residents.
Vault 96 is one of the cryogenic research centers. Thousands of animals and 5 scientists were placed in it. Their task was to conduct genetic research, the number of which was determined by the quota system issued by the supercomputer’s mainframe. Quotas were constantly increasing in number, and if a scientist did not carry out all the research, then the system would have them killed.
(Fallout 3) Burkittville Vault. Its number, experiment, and fate are not known. Until Vault 107 appears in the Fallout lore, we will use this number. Although it is mentioned in the Fallout 3 lore, Burkittsville falls more into the territory of the Appalachian wasteland.

Shelters

When the Great War began, a huge number of people found themselves in various shelters. I would say that no other game in the Fallout series tells in such detail about the first days of the wondrous new world.
Riverside Manor. The pre-war mansion of the Rivers Family, consisting of Shannon Rivers, her husband Frederick Rivers and her daughter Olivia Rivers. Shannon was an actress and played the superhero Mistress of Mysteries in movies. Frederick was an excellent engineer who turned the basement of the mansion into a training camp with all the necessary equipment.
Groups of people met the war at the high-cost ski resorts of Pleasant Valley and Spruce Knob.
There were three missile silos in the region: Alpha, Beta and Charlie, which were supposed to bring down their arsenal on China. As a consequence of the fact that there was a fabulous general in Alpha who did not read the instructions, spent his rocket launch card and entered the wrong code; in Beta the general was absent from the station at all; and Gamma was evacuated before the start of the War due to a false radiation leak alarm, missiles were not fired at China from Appalachia.
Vault-Tec Simulation at Vault Tec University. Students could train to become overseers. Before the war, the overseer was supposed to be a student Drew Collingsworth, who wanted to conduct an experiment with edible pasta, which was supposed to replace food supplies. However, the dean of the university wanted to conduct his own experiment and ordered to add a slow poison to the food, that could destroy blood vessels, and test people's reaction to the death from food. He was counting on a riot and the subsequent evacuation. When the bombs fell, no one in the simulation realized what had happened. However, one of them died on the same day.
Kerwood Mine. Since AMC was developing ultracite by nuclear underground blasts in the region, on October 17, during another underground explosion, the old mine collapsed, killing 17 people and burying 32 more. They met the War underground.
Glassed Caverns is a mine of AMC for the extraction of ultracite. During the War, there were miners in it, but the mine itself withstood the bomb blasts outside.
Allegheny Asylum. A psychiatric hospital closed with a scandal, to which teachers and students from Watoga came for an excursion.
Burrows. Old underground catacombs, sewers, and storm shelters under the city of Harpers Ferry. Even before the war, many squatters lived there, who were constantly kicked out. During the war, many residents of Harpers Ferry took refuge there.
Whitesprings Bunker. A bunker for congressional representatives and the political establishment. About 200 people were evacuated in the summer of 2077. Among the evacuees was Thomas Eckhart, the Minister of Agriculture, who was in Enclave, as well as Jefferson Gray, his right–hand man and an operative of Enclave. The bunker was controlled via MODUS, a supercomputer with powerful artificial intelligence, an analogue of ZAX.
Arktos Pharma is a pharmaceutical and genetic laboratory. When the bombs fell, the scientists continued to do research and genetic experiments, refusing to evacuate.
Eastern Regional Penitentiary is a prison where convicts were wearing collars that could explode if they tried to escape. The management came up with this method of control, wanting to save money on guards and even on the maintenance of the prison, including repairs of the walls. Among the prisoners was Harrison Malone, a recidivist and the leader of a robbery gang.
Sons of Dane Compound of The Sons of Dane who are a group of anti-government survivalists led by Dane Rogers. They moved to the camp on October 20.
There are two bases of the Chinese Liberation Army in the region. There was Mama Dolce canned food factory in Morgantown, which was a cover for the Fujinia Intelligence and Research Base. There was also a base called The Deep, located deep in the mountain range. The Chinese military inside the bases did not know that China would treacherously drop bombs on the States. So, they were caught off guard themselves.
Six members of Lieutenant Elizabeth Taggerdy's detachment, called Taggerdy Thunder, who took part in military exercises, found shelter in Spruce Knob Lake Cave.
A Buddhist temple Palace of the Winding Path was built in the mountains, which even before the war was supposed to become a commercial asylum for the New Age movement. For a better spiritual experience, a special narcotic gas was let through the ventilation. Actually, the attendees of this center survived the war in it.
The Whitesprings Resort is a pre–war ultra-expensive resort and a golf club standing above the Enclave bunker. Unrelated in any way to the politicians who evacuated to the bunker beneath, 96 people of guests and staff took refuge in the main building of the resort during the war.
A couple of years before the start of the war, West Tek company built a laboratory near the town of Huntersville. For a while, they were kidnapping people from the town and were experimenting on them. In particular, they created the Grafton Monster in the laboratory. By 2076, experiments had reached a new level and the whole town of Huntersville was infected. When the inhabitants began to mutate into super mutants, the city was quarantined, and the military took the city into cordon. At the very center of West Tek at the time of the War, the scientific staff took refuge.
In the city of Berkeley Springs, residents of the city are evacuated to the Berkeley Springs clinic.
A detachment of US Army “Firebats” squad was stationed inside Monongah Power Plant to guard the facility.
Another group of US Army soldiers takes refuge in the Wendigo Cave.
People also take refuge in Aaronholt Homestead, New River Gorge Resort, Haven Church, Dolly Sods children's boy scouts camp.
In Western Maryland Correctional Facility in Cumberland, MD, prisoners and guards are sheltering during the war.
Before the War there was a major anti–government anarchists group in the region called Free States who have completely lost confidence in the American government. They were paranoid about the government's Vault Tec program, and for good reason. Even before the war, they began to collect supplies, weapons and build their own bunkers on the territory of the future Mire. Despite the pressure of politicians, police harassment and conflicts with the administration of the city of Harpers Ferry, which became their focal point, they were able to predict quite accurately when the apocalypse will occur, and evacuated in advance to their bunkers. So far, 11 bunkers are known: the bunker of Singh family (Abbie's Bunker), of Niraj and Abbie Singh, father and daughter who were talented radio mechanics; the Bunker of Raleigh Clay who was the leader of the Free States; Sam Blackwell Bunker. Sam Blackwell is a former US Congressman and Raleigh Clay's best friend. Before the war, he put sticks in the wheels of mining companies, preventing them from carrying out robotization, and also revealed the corruption scheme of the then Minister of Agriculture, Thomas Eckhart. But politics is politics, and by denigrating him publicly for his connection with Free States, as well as threatening violence against his daughter, the ill–wishers forced Sam to hide in his bunker long before the war; The Sunday Brothers Cabin, which belonged to the Sunday Brothers - JD and Jesus; Ella Aimes' Bunker. Ella Aimes is a chief medical officer of Free States; Cora's Bunker (Abandoned Bunker), the Carson Family Bunker, Jeremiah's Bunker (Ransacked Bunker), as well as the mentioned Emma's Bunker north of Mt. Thunder Power Plant, Eddie Hayes Bunker and Gavin McCullogh Cabin.
Orwell Orchard Bunker. The Orwell family of farmers built it under their own orchard and equipped it in a way that some Vault Tec vaults could not afford for themselves. There was a gym, a swimming pool, a bar, a projector room, many rooms of various functions, high ceilings. And it was despite the fact that the farm was basically bankrupt.
An employee of Vault Tec, who was promised a place in a vault, but later got a rejected, dug out a Makeshift Vault.
Near Vault 51 there was a small Vault Tec Bunker, which was used as a sales office. When the bombs fell, there were sales managers inside.
In the region, there was an underground secret Enclave Research Station J in the northwestern part of the Forest. This center was a large multi-level underground base.
A group of scientists of Bysshe Company survived the war in a railway tunnel near Harpers Ferry Tunnels, which they used as a laboratory for the study of water samples from the Potomac River.

Cities

The region was not badly affected by the direct bombing, so many cities survived. Many residents did not even go anywhere. Again, due to the fact that the history of the region does not exceed 25 years, the exposition of the cities is given in great detail. Thus, at least the following cities survived during the war:
Charleston. The capital of West Virginia. Immediately after the War, the Charleston Emergency Government was formed, headed by Tanner Holbrook, the man who became acting governor, and Abigail Poole, the acting mayor of Charleston. These two do not get along well with each other and often make contradictory decisions. An autonomous group of volunteer Responders is also being formed in the city. Their goal was to save and help those who are in need. Abigail was a friend to them, but Tanner tried to ignore them, being carried away by flirting with political circles. The leader of the Respondents is Maria Chavez.
Morgantown. The city, the center of which is the University of Vault Tec and which largely consists of students, fell into anarchy after the War. For some time, it is kept under the control of the tough hand of the Sheriff Mayfield and the Charleston Government.
Lewisburg. In general, the city is experiencing the apocalypse perfectly thanks to the "Heaven Gardens" on the roofs of houses. With their help, residents get an overview of the terrain, the opportunity to breathe fresh air and grow food. In addition, the city lives with constant festivals and competitions, which keeps its morale at a high level.
Harpers Ferry. A city at the intersection of the Potomac and Shenandoah Rivers.
Huntersville is a city where residents were turned into super mutants. During the war, they allegedly broke through the cordon and massacred the military. They remained to live in the city though.
The cities of Flatwoods, Clarksburg, Helvetia, Sutton and Beckley have also survived. Although there is no direct evidence confirming the survival of the latter, it can be assumed that the city survived by the presence of erected scaffolding and all sorts of structures linking dilapidated buildings.
An unnamed Bog Town in the vicinity of Watoga, which because of it turned out to be abandoned before the war and became a haven for squatters.
There is no information whether the cities of Monongah, Welch, Point Pleasant, Grafton, Summersville and Tanagra survived the war. Watoga fell before the War. Tanagra is the only fictional city among all of them. Of course, we are talking about the cities that are represented in the game itself, although conditionally many locations and settlements belong to a certain city in the lore. For example, the WV Lumber Co is located in the city of Friendly, and Mega Mansions are in the city of Bramwell.

The Great War

On October 23, 2077, a hail of nuclear warheads hit the world. Cities have been destroyed, millions have died, and society has fallen.

History of the region: 2077-2082

2077

We have reviewed the list of settlements that survived the nuclear holocaust. Now let us see how the situation developed in the future. End of 2077:
When the bombs fell, evacuation began, and the commune headed to Vault 94 on two buses. Unfortunately, one of them was late, and an undercover employee of the Vault Tec embedded in the commune had to close the geardoors, dooming the second bus to death. Nevertheless, the group thrived; they had a GECK that kept their internal farm working.
After the bombs fell, the Sons of Dane got out. Celebrating their survival, they were loud having fun with beer and music every evening.
Due to the loss of the bomb launch card, the Alpha silo was no longer useful. The fabulous general gathered all the personnel and led them to "serve their country" in some other place. A group of military personnel left the Alpha Silo.
Since the general never arrived at Beta Silo, the entire station staff decided to evacuate on their own.
October 29. Taggerdy makes contact with her longtime comrade in the service, Captain Roger Maxson, who is waiting out the nuclear winter with his renegade division at the Mariposa Base in California.
October 30. Scientists are leaving West Tek, having presumably neutralized the vats of FEV.
The subjects in the VTU Simulation learn about the autopsy results of a deceased colleague and realize that they are all poisoned. They demand from the overseer Drew to call for help and urgently stop the simulation. When they cannot get any response from the outside, they think that the overseer Drew did not call for help consciously, although in fact, everyone outside the complex was no longer up to simulation. Simulation participants raise a riot and after November 2, having failed to get to Drew, who barricaded himself in his room, they die. Drew dies of starvation too, though.
In addition, after November 2, a group that took refuge in the New River Gorge resort dies.
November 5. A Horizon plane crashes near Helvetia.
By November 6, the last miners in the flooded Kerwood mine are dying.
November 11. An early-formed raider group attacks the clinic in Berkeley Springs, which was already in a state of agony with a huge number of refugees and wounded, a meager supply of provisions, medicines, gradually deserting staff and generators failing. The raiders kill three people, steal the last supplies and on November 14th the last group of 5 people leave the clinic for Charleston.
In November, Pleasant Valley asks for help from Charleston, but the Emergency Government by order of Tanner refuses to help, saying there are not enough supplies for them either. This causes strong dissatisfaction among people of Pleasant Valley.
On November 21, at Vault 51, on Baker's advice, ZAX holds a democratic election for an overseer. But it fails because people vote mostly for themselves.
On November 28, the second elections of overseer fail, even though parties have been created. Robert inadvertently tells ZAX that the best leader is the one who can best prove himself during a crisis.
Also in November, a wendigo called Nightstalker, attracted by loud music, drinking and dancing from the Sons of Dane, kills the members of the group one by one during several weeks until the group becomes completely exterminated.
On December 1, the sales managers in the Vault Tec bunker left it with the arrival of cold weather in the hope of reaching Harpers Ferry.
December 12. Skig’s Gang raiders seize Haven Church killing refugees. Maybe it was the same gang that raided Berkeley Springs.
On the same day, Firebats squad at the Monongah Power Plant manages to contact the command, which requested half of the squad. About 20 people remained at the station.
Also during these three months, various shelters died: Wendigo Cave, Glassed Caverns and Dolly Sods. From the latter, the refugees left for Harpers Ferry and Berkeley Springs, as long as it made sense to go there.
Burrows beneath Harpers Ferry is turning into an independent settlement.
Taggerdy Thunder leaves the cave where they met the war, to the training Camp Venture, where they are planning to survive the winter.
There is an armed seizure of power in the Whitesprings Bunker by members of the Enclave, partly of whom the evacuated group consisted. All non-Enclave members were executed. Thus, the bunker became a full-fledged base of Enclave managed by the Minister of Finance.
In the Maryland prison, a gang of former convicts was formed under the leadership of Roper, the head of security. The gang is called Free Radicals.
Survivors in the Palace of the Winding Path create their own religious hippie cult.
The Allegheny Asylum is turning into a full-fledged settlement. They even set up their own farm with chickens and a cow.
Bog Town becomes a haven for various gangs of raiders who periodically try to pillage deserted Watoga.
Makeshift Vault did not have time to be equipped properly before the war, so it died or was abandoned soon after the bombing.

2078

January 14. The siege of the Monongah Power Plant begins. An unnamed group of raiders attacks the facility, kills several soldiers, and hangs their corpses on trees.
On January 23, the third attempt of elections in Vault 51 fails. ZAX completely abandons the idea of voting and begins to generate crises, which, according to Baker's wise words, should determine the real strong leader.
February 2. The second attack on the Monongah Power Plant. 15 people remain alive.
(Fallout 3) Before February 13, a group of Burkittsville Cannibals appears near the Burkittsville Vault, setting ambushes on everyone who tries to get to it. They were so ferocious that they wore skins of the people they’ve killed. As they will not appear in history anymore, we can assume that they will die out after 2078.
February 21. There is a crisis in Vault 51 – ZAX forces the representatives of the upper class among the residents to sleep on the benches in clothes without mattresses and other amenities. One of the residents, Aiden Higgins, goes crazy and, using homemade explosives, tries to blow up the walls of the vault to get out, but he blows up only himself eventually.
February 24. A gang of Skigs in the Haven Church is killed when is attacked by feral ghouls.
Around March 2-3, ZAX arranges a talent show. It changes the rules on the go, putting as a prize the opportunity to sleep in beds, and not on the floor in one room. Of course, professional artists won. Because of ZAX, the tension between people begins to grow. During the year, it constantly conducts such crises, pitting people against each other and driving them mad: it cheats during gambling games, giving victory and food rations to newcomers, it deprives residents of healthy sleep and caffeine, and so on. ZAX also destroys people's relationships, allegedly giving out their secret affairs, provoking infidelity, and even editing the content of their correspondence to give a more negative background to its contents.
March 12. The third attack on the Monongah Power Plant. Twelve soldiers remain.
After March 12, thescientists of Arktos Pharma descend into the underground laboratory complex after the incessant invasion of feral ghouls and the threatening radiation levels. However, ghouls managed to break into the complex, too. When the group tried to repair the turrets, there was a failure, and turrets started shooting people. Thus, at the lowest level – in the generator room - the last eight people locked themselves in, and subsequently died, unable to get out or wait for help.
At the same time in March, raiders from Bog Town attack the Allegheny Asylum, take supplies and kill animals on the farm. A group of residents decides that they have nothing more to catch here and splits into two. One goes to Monongah, and the other goes to Harpers Ferry. Considering that Monongah was never resettled after the war, the first group never reached the town.
March 29. Melody Larkin, a police officer in the city of Morgantown, reports to Charleston that Sheriff Mayfield is already starting to open fire on raging and marauding students who are tearing up the city for supplies and fighting among themselves. Later, at the request of Abigail Poole, she moves to Charleston as a representative of Morgantown in the city parliament.
All sorts of people are slowly coming to the Camp Venture at the call of Taggerdy, who wants to expand the squad. Since Venture was a pre–war training camp for military, and the Taggerdy squad are not boy scouts, those who came are forced to undergo a fighter-training course for initiation.
In the spring, the raiders that terrorize the Monongah Power Plant create Ammo Dump camp.
On May 25, the fourth and final attack on the Monongah Power Plant takes place. Only nine soldiers remain alive, who decide to leave. Raiders seize the station for looting. The troop of soldiers, Firebats, was never mentioned again. Most likely, they either died in the wasteland or dispersed.
On June 3, one of the residents of Vault 51 finds a gun planted by ZAX.
Around June 12, the first murder takes place in Vault 51 – someone strangled a nurse.
According to many records, the winter of 2077-2078 in the region was incredibly harsh. So much so that the last snow melted only in July. The winter has caused people to become savage in the mountains. They staged a massacre among themselves for resources, descended into murder and cannibalism. As a result, they became raiders. A gang of Cutthroats, led by Harland McClintock, is formed in Pleasant Valley. Also a gang of Gourmands is formed at Spruce Knob Resort, who continued to engage in cannibalism even when the food situation stabilized. Actually, they were feared in the region for such atrocity. They had Morris Stevens in charge with his wife Edie.
July 8. Raiders attack Riverside Mansion, the refuge of the Rivers family. They tried to rape Olivia, but Shannon, being trained for the role of a superhero, beat them all, and killed a couple altogether. Something changes in Shannon's conscious from the experience, and she decides to find a noble use for her skills. She takes the image of a superheroine she played in the movies, and sets herself the task of fighting bad people in a new harsh world. Olivia begins a training course under the supervision of her mother.
On July 27, there is a shooting in the cafeteria of Vault 51, but before anyone got killed, Robert Baker managed to neutralize the aggressor. Baker accuses ZAX for the weapon it provided, to which it states that reducing the number of candidates will make it easier to choose a leader.
August 1. ZAX let buzzing flies into the residential sector to annoy vaulteers. After 72 hours of unsuccessful attempts to kill them, the residents managed to lose three more people.
On August 3, there is a conflict between the Chambers couple and their lovers, who were also lovers of each other. ZAX blocks all 4 in one room and issues weapons. As a result of a quarrel that escalated into a fight, everyone dies. When Ruben Gill and Helena Marks enter the room, Ruben notices that they will now get more food and receives ZAX recognition.
August 6. Crisis number 37. ZAX allegedly poisons Helena Marks, the only person who was the psychological and moral anchor for the refuges, and also the object of Ruben's desire. ZAX gives Ruben a weapon, and he starts violence. ZAX also issued weapons to other residents and pitted them against each other. Blood flowed, and the only survivor in the slaughter was Ruben. In fact, Vault 51 ceased to exist on that day.
At the same time, on August 6, Tanner receives a report from his personal scouts about what kind of bloodthirsty raiders the residents of Pleasant Valley have turned into.
Later in August, Shannon Rivers helps a caravan at Lewisburg repel a raider attack.
Around September, after a bunch of systems had already stopped working in the Orwell Orchard Bunker, radiation began to leak inside. During a family quarrel about the exodus, Ian Orwell locked his wife in a cage, but she managed to escape, killing her husband.
On October 23, a year after the War, Vault 94 opens. Residents begin to establish gardens outside the vault, and send ambassadors to the wastelands in order to establish friendly contact with the settlements.
In November, Shannon Rivers finds four orphans in the garage of her mansion: three girls, including Clarissa and Eve Devoir and a boy – Brody Torrence. Of these, she takes only girls into her care, and drives the boy away.
November 20. Despite the fact that many of the ambassadors of Vault 94 died after reaching the raiders, one of the ambassadors establishes contact with Harpers Ferry. The mayor of the city, Miranda Vox, sends a squad of four people to the vault. However, this squad has become too paranoid from the fact that there are no weapons in the vault, and that they are peacefully greeted. They thought they were walking into a trap and at some point their nerves gave out. They open fire on the residents and kill them all. Then, they find GECK and, being convinced that it is a governmental machine for controlling consciousness, shoot it, which leads to a new nuclear explosion. New radioactive fallout, combined with GECK fertilizers, covered the region and caused an incredible boom in mutation of flora and fauna. The region began to turn into a dangerous jungle, and it will later be called the Mire.

2022.07.27 17:26 kkliemt Thinking about moving to West Virginia

I currently live in the Atlanta area and I'm looking to move to WV. My town is just getting way too big (230k-ish people) so I'm looking for a change of scenery. Through a ton of research, I think that West Virginia might be a great place to relocate. I'd love any input on living in WV. I did see several posts on Reddit from ~4yrs ago so I'm looking for more current information.
I like small town living but I also like access to things I need/want to do. I love all the outdoorsy stuff - hiking, kayaking, caving, camping, etc - and I coach recreation softball.
Basically being wedged between the N. Ga mountains and the city on a huge lake, I would love to be somewhere similar... near water with mountain views and a little bit of property. I hate commercial restaurants and ticky tacky houses. I want somewhere that my neighbors aren't on top of me but it's not a 20min drive into town. I would love to live in a place that has daily local farmers markets and other small businesses - boutiques, restaurants, bars, etc.
I am a huge fan of jam bands and listen to bluegrass (not country music) and would like to have access to venues nearby that offer live music.
Also, I'm super liberal (and atheist) and I know that WV isn't exactly known for being the most progressive. While moving to a red stat isn't a deal breaker for me, I don't want to be in a town that is extremely racist/hateful/noninclusive either. I prefer not to pass judgement and don't want to be singled out because of my personal beliefs.
I have a daughter in middle school so good schools are important. I also know that WV stacks low on the totem pole nationwide so I'm finding it difficult to find homes in specific districts. Any personal input on the public school system would be welcome as I am aware that the internet doesn't tell you everything.
I work from home and will continue to work remotely for my company here in Georgia. What's the internet speed going to be? Considering that I need it to do my job, this is pretty important.
What is the dating scene like in WV? I'm single and online dating in Atlanta is a total shit show so any input on this would be great! Ha!
Weather... North Georgia is HUMID! Summers are hot and rainy, autumn is wet and cold, our winders are a bit bipolar - It's literally been 85* on Christmas before, and spring these days feels like it never even comes. What do I have to look forward to in WV? Disclaimer, my parents are from NY so I've spent a lot of winters with family on LI with the snow... I am not afraid of a little cold/snow but we don't drive in it much here. If it "snows" in Georgia what they really mean is that there will be ice on the roads and you better stock up on all the milk, bread, eggs, toilet paper, etc. It's ridiculous!
I know someone in Fayetteville, and while that does seem like a lovely place to live, I have no intentions of moving on top of him; I mean, if you know, you know. I've been looking at Morgantown, Wheeling, Charleston, Beckley, Bridgeport, Huntington, Shepherdstown, Hurricane, Berkeley Springs, Charles Town, Lewisburg, Davis/Thomas, Oak Hill, Harpers Ferry, Williamstown, Hedgesville, Parkersburg, Poca, Summersville... and a few others. What can you lovely people tell me about any of these places or WV in general??

2022.06.28 06:35 hushpuppylife Balancing growth in eastern panhandle?

I’m not from WV but have lived in Beckley although now I am in Harpers Ferry in eastern panhandle.
It seems like a lot of locals have a negative perception of newcomers coming in and all the development. It seems they feel people come in from other areas but then turn around and complain about their new home not having what they came from. You might have somebody move from DC but turn around and complain they don’t have perfect roads, internet, shopping? Whatever. That’s a fair question.
How can you have an area like that grow but also preserve the existing culture and livelihood of its citizens? The other issue is at the jurisdiction seem to want development and will approve stuff without properly accommodating for schools, roads, first responders, etc.
Basically is there a way to help the Eastern panhandles grow smarter without becoming the problems of Loudoun, Fairfax, etc?
