I'm very happy that just pullups and dips can make you BULK UP!
2023.06.05 16:01 gimmeurbreadpls I'm very happy that just pullups and dips can make you BULK UP!
My physique doing just pullups and dips
https://imgur.com/a/ZumcAHO There's a lot more impressive physiques than mine on this sub, but I am very happy to know now that it is possible to bulk up with just pullups and dips!
That's basically the post, but if you are a beginner and want to get a physique like mine and eventually surpass it, feel free to read on.
- Goal = lumberjack physique = wide back, big powerful chest, big arms.
- I used to have a skinny fit physique in my teens and early 20's, which only revealed itself when I took my shirt off, otherwise I looked like any other skinny guy. After getting a dad bod after marriage, I decided I wanted a bulked up physique this time that actually looked good with a shirt on.
- Achieved goal? = No. About 70% of the way. Wife called me a gorilla the other day lol and actually wants me to slim down. So that's progress!
- Training period = 23 months so far (and hopefully for the rest of my life)
- Diet = Nothing special. I eat whatever (I'm a grad student in my 30's, so no income), just work out hard to compensate. White meat (chicken) with rice and veggies usually these days but I also eat instant noodles or takeout too. I also eat some protein after workout (eggs or yogurt or chicken).
- As I've been bulking up more, I've also been eating more calories.
- Supplements = None. No protein shakes or creatine = too much money. No steroids (as you can tell in the photos LOL).
- Routine = low reps x high sets = high total volume.
- I start my timer. 5 - 6 pullups. Next minute, 5 - 6 dips. Next minute, back to 5 - 6 pullups. Next minute, back to 5 - 6 dips.
- 60 minutes = 150 - 180 pullups and 150 - 180 dips.
- I do this for 2 days and then on the 3rd day I do a leg day (which I added after the recommendation of this sub). And then the 3 day cycle repeats. No rest days unless overly fatigued or in pain (which is different from soreness or discomfort), or if life just really gets in the way.
- Progression = I've been training for just under 2 years. If I remember correctly, I started with something like 10 sets of 3 pullups, 3 dips. (If you are a beginner who cannot do pullups or dips, you can do bodyweight rows and pushups instead and get almost the same intensity workout and same results). I progress in 2 ways, by either...
- Working on mastering my form. Minimizing my kipping and making sure to do full range of motion with each rep. So for pullups, down position means elbows fully extended (locked out) and up position means chin fully above the bar. Also doing the movement under control rather than relying on momentum to half ass the reps. So even if the rep count stays the same or even decreases because I am stricter on my form, I am progressing.
- Increasing the rep count in each set. That is why I'm doing 5 - 6 reps in my routine right now. 5 reps per set got a bit easy (150 pullups and 150 dips), but doing 6 reps for 30 sets is really challenging for me right now (180 pullups and 180 dips). So I am in the transition phase of doing 6 reps per set until it gets too difficult and then dropping down to 5 sets for the remainder of the workout (usually about 40 minutes in).
And that's basically it.
Some people may think this is overtraining, but I slowly built up to this over the last two years, making sure to stop immediately if I experienced any joint pain at all and taking a rest day if overly fatigued from the previous day's workout. Listening to my body and differentiating between mild soreness and actual pain helped me avoid any injuries.
After 2 years of this, I've come to the conclusion that too many beginners worry about overtraining when they should instead worry about undertraining. The people who I've seen undergo incredible physique transformations are those who workout a lot, not those who workout only a little out of fear of overtraining. Our bodies are capable of a lot more physical activity than we give them credit for.
Even for myself, although I still have a ways to go, I am now receiving compliments on my physique regularly. My male classmates (who I've known now for 2 years) are now calling me swole and my female classmates are now complimenting my fit. What I wear didn't change over the past 2 years but my physique did...I bulked up and fill out my shirts now which looks better than a skinny body in a shirt.
That's basically the post. Thank you for reading a fitness beginner's post. If you are also a beginner, I encourage you to work out consistently to see results! I think consistency is the key to success. I also recommend bulking up so your physique looks good in a shirt, which is going to be 99% of the time. I am much happier with this physique than when I was skinny fit in my teens with a 6 pack.

2023.06.05 15:26 jesster-day Not sure if it could be gastritis but I’m super anxious about it
Hey guys, 2 weeks ago I got a sharp sudden pain right under my breast on my right side at nighttime after having ate a burger and went to bed. It was fast and it went away but I felt discomfort after, the next day I still felt the discomfort but it went away by the time I went to bed then was fine for a few days. Then it came back when I went to the movies and ate popcorn, went away again, came back again 2 days ago and I’ve had it ever since. When it’s gone away I don’t get triggered by anything, I mostly eat a lot of chicken and veggies/rice because I got to the gym and I have to eat protein all the time, but sometimes I’ll have heavier meals, went to eat stake at a stakehouse and that didn’t flare it up. I notice it’s after I would eat the popcorn from the movies or potato chips or things like that. I worry that it’s my gallbladder but I’m not sure. The pain isn’t always on the same spot and it moves around sometimes but generally it’s been on the right then radiates toward my back and for the most part it’s right under the breast basically on the ribs and not below them. Feel gassy when it happens as well. I was on birth control for a month and it was giving me awful heartburn so I stopped it and it helped, but it threw my period off and I didn’t get it for a month, then when I got it again my gastric problems flared up pretty bad (they usually do when im menstruating). I’m having tons of anxiety over it and I hope it’s not my gallbladder because I don’t even have insurance and can’t afford surgery. I’m speaking to my doctor about it on Wednesday, just wanted to know if anyone has had similar experiences. Thanks!

2023.06.05 12:50 killuuls Recently found out my allergies
Hello! I wanted to ask some advice about how to switch from my food lifestyle to be more safer for my body due to allergies.
My mother had been struggling with an unknown disease for 15 years and been diagnosed with celiac disease 2 years ago. My mother claimed that the bumps on my skin resembled when the skin my mom had during the peak of her undiagnosed disease and said I possibly have gluten allergy which may have caused the chicken skin thats all over my body.
I recently went to get tested and out of the 22 types of foodscreen, I got 13 diagnosed. They were all types of milk and cheese, chicken eggs, gluten, all types of nuts including almond, peanuts and hazelnuts, white rice, tomatoes and carrots.
I am going to get tested for 99 foodscreen package as my mom said I have 13 already meaning I should have more that werent tested.
The issue lies with how I am going to transition to an allergy free meal. I am a very picky eater already and I'm pretty upset as I love to eat white rice, milk, cheese and gluten related meals. I don't eat vegetables as I start to gag and vomit it out. How do I possibly stop that? I tried a lot to eat more vegetables but it always resulted to me puking them out.
My plan for now is not to consume the foods that I have been diagnosed with and cut them out for 2 weeks and see any changes to my body.

My boston doesn’t seem interested in food at all. He barely finishes his meals. anyone else’s similar?
We’ve tried different foods eg chicken, beef, kangaroo, turkey and different vegetables, cooked rice / pasta. Tried shorter meal times eg: taking the bowl away after 10 mins. Tried more meals per day but less in each bowl etc
Anyone got any tips?

2023.06.05 10:42 JadedIntention4960 Heart-Healthy Recipes That Are Easy and Yummy!
Heart-healthy eating helps you have the right food and keeps a check on your heart health. It aids in weight loss, reduces cholesterol, inflammation, blood pressure, and other heart risks, and increases lifespan.
According to WHO, “cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are the leading cause of death globally, taking an estimated 17.9 million lives each year”. One-third of these deaths occur prematurely in people under 70 years of age. Four out of five CVD deaths are due to heart attacks and strokes.
This definitely is a problem of concern and needs to be addressed soon. But as it’s said – “Prevention is better than cure” It’s always better we start to visualize the problem, spread awareness, and follow practices that help us. Altering our lifestyle and incorporating a healthy diet are the best ways to stay safe from heart risks. And our heart-healthy recipes could be a great choice to start with!
Diet Changes that Can Eliminate the Risk of Heart Disease Increase the intake of whole grains, veggies, fruits, and seeds in your regular diet. This makes a balanced diet and reduces heart problems.
Limit your consumption of Sodium, saturated fats, and trans fats like sugary foods & drinks, fried food, and processed meat.
Cook your meals at home. This ensures you eat healthy food regularly. Complement these practices with regular exercise; quit smoking and alcohol consumption to prevent heart disease.
Heart-Healthy Recipes You Need to Try Home-cooked-meals don’t just fill your belly, you also become mindful of what you feed your body by selecting healthier ingredients and practicing portion control. Not to forget, home-cooked meals help us save money and bring our loved ones around the table.
Grab the chance and try out our heart-healthy recipes that are easy to make and extremely tasty. Our list has a combination of foods covering veggies to whole grains that keep you satiated until your next meal.
Black Salmon with Roasted Vegetables Salmon, rich in Omega-3-fatty acid, is a healthy fat. It can reduce cholesterol, control blood pressure, and is great for your heart and brain. When Salmon is paired with carrots, bell peppers, onions, or other veggies, it adds vital nutrients, making it a perfect dish that could make your heart crave for more.
This nutritious dish is a quick recipe that can be prepared within 30 minutes. You first need to preheat your oven to 400O F, place the salmon filets seasoned with salt and pepper on a baking sheet and roast the fish for up to 15 minutes. Now add the roasted vegetables seasoned with salt, pepper, and olive oil and transfer it to a platter along with the Salmon, and your delicious recipe is ready to taste!
Slow Cooker Butternut Squash Soup Butternut squash is a rich source of vitamins, Potassium, Magnesium, Manganese, and fiber. It is low in saturated fats and cholesterol and, thus, is an excellent heart-healthy appetizer.
Saute diced onions, carrot, and garlic, with butternut squash in olive oil for 5-10 minutes. Transfer this mixture to a slow cooker and add vegetable or chicken broth and coconut milk. Lastly, add your desired spices (salt, pepper, cumin, chili flakes, and curry powder) and cook on low. This heart-healthy soup is ready to serve after 6-8 hours and tastes like heaven.
Lentil and Vegetable Stew Lentils reduce the risk of heart disease by lowering cholesterol and blood pressure. They are a good source of plant protein and are rich in iron, Vitamin B1, and folate, which helps your heart be healthy. Additionally, the vegetables in this dish provide essential vitamins and minerals, making it a balanced diet.
Saute onions, garlic, celery, and carrots in the olive oil for 5 minutes. Add lentils, tomatoes, herbs, and vegetable broth and bring it to a boil. Add the seasoning, simmer the stew, and boil the lentils and vegetables until they are tender. Lastly, garnish the stew with parsley and serve it hot as is or with quinoa or brown rice.
Grilled Chicken and Veggie Skewers Unlike red meat, chicken is healthy as it is comparatively low in saturated fats and is a great food choice for non-vegetarians. And when you add your favorite veggies to it, don’t you think it’s a medley of rich flavors?
To make this incredible
heart-healthy recipe, cut the chicken breast into small pieces, marinate them in a mixture of olive oil, lime juice, spices, and herbs and add these chicken pieces to the skewers along with tomatoes, zucchini, onions, or bell pepper. Grill the skewers until the chicken is cooked. This dish can satisfy your taste buds and is something you would love to devour.
Quinoa and Black Bean Salad You can’t go wrong with this recipe when you are looking for a dish that is heart-friendly. Quinoa and black bean salad is a classic cuisine that is extremely healthy, with its main ingredients being Quinoa – a superfood high in amino acids and nutrients, and black bean – which is power-packed with proteins. This dish is delicious and can be made in a jiffy.
Cook the Quinoa as per the package instructions and add the canned black bean to it. Mix them with chopped bell peppers, tomatoes, onions, corn, and your desired spices, and serve them hot.
Roasted Root Vegetable Salad Root veggies can protect you from heart diseases as they are low in calories and sodium and have higher amounts of potassium and fiber. Thus, they curb your hunger pranks and are healthy.
To make this salad, dice your favorite veggies, and sprinkle salt, pepper, and olive oil. Now spread these veggies on a baking sheet and roast them in the preheated oven for up to 35-40 minutes. Add the roasted vegetables to a bowl of greens, walnuts, crumbled cheese, and vinaigrette; toss them with the dressing, and voila! You got a healthy and yummy salad to savor.
In conclusion, incorporating heart-healthy recipes into your diet can help reduce the risk of heart disease and keep you healthy. These recipes are easy to make and delicious, making it easier to stick to a healthy diet. Remember to also complement these dietary changes with regular exercise and other healthy lifestyle choices.

2023.06.05 09:42 starsylveon Question about salary
Hey guys! I want to know how much I should pay someone to cook for me three times a day and buy groceries. Just your regular chicken rice veggie meals, no need for work experience. I saw different salaries on Facebook groups, like $150 to $200 for 8-hour shifts in hotels/restaurants so I'm not sure how much to pay here. This would be in Siem Reap. I'm currently spending around $450 a month on ordering food and eating out, and I want to switch to healthy cooking instead. Can anyone share insights on the salary I should offer? Any tips to consider? I don't want to get the cheapest worker or underpay anyone so serious replies only, please.

2023.06.05 09:17 BuffePomphond Sick and tired of the mediocrity in this world
Whereever you go, there are fat, lazy people who are living sad lives, doing nothing productive and being content being absolute losers, and I'm fed up with it.
People seem to not be able to grasp that any form of improvement comes with sacrifices. Every "maybe try to eat healthie exercise more" is met with "but I would still like to enjoy my fries and milkshake sometimes/ I am not training to be an olympic athlete". The amount of people that think walking ten minutes to a grocery store, or cycling to work for five kilometers is too far is ridiculous. All they do is eat crap foods and sit on the couch.
So many people nowadays bring their mental baggage with them and are unwilling to do anything about it. OF COURSE someone who weighs double of what should be considered normal is mentally fucked up. No one in their right mind would live like this. So I understand that sometimes people go through shit when they are like this. But the amount of people that are satisfied with it, that are completely unbothered by a lack of standards, is too damn high.
The lack of discipline is the source of so many problems we have in our society. Healthcare is fucking clogged because people are not self-reliant. Instead, they have the doctor as their last resort. I fucking loved David's comeback after his fucked up knee and ankle surgeries: he defied what we see as "normal" recovery, because he put in the fucking work. Too many people think going to a doctor once a month or seeing a physiotherapist once a week is enough for their rehabilitation. No motherfucker, you need to work for this! Lack of discipline is everywhere! How many cars are stuck in traffic because people are unwilling to walk even 15 minutes? People are so fucking undisciplined: look at the side of the roads or the sidewalks. Full of garbage!
People do not have the discipline to 1) not eat crap from McD and those places and then 2) do not even have the decency to fucking take their garbage home or put it in a trash can. Yesterday outside of our apartment block, I found an empty package of cigarettes on the ground, less than 10 meters away from the garbage can. It's never rice with chicken you suddenly find on the side of the road; it's always crap like cigarettes, junkfood, plastic candy wrappers and all that nonsense.
It drives me mad to hear just excuses everywhere! /rant
PS. I love seeing all of you hard motherfuckers out here, running through rain, mud, snow, uphill. You are a bunch of inspiring badasses who are the bright lights of society. STAY HARD!

2023.06.05 09:05 Competitive_Text1914 Hells Kitchen 6th Place Season: Episode 9
Chef Gordon Ramsay welcomed back his final 11 Chefs and said that they were getting close to the halfway point of the competition and said he hoped to only see improvement from now on. Ramsay was also delighted to announce that the next challenge and service would be related to one of his favourite cuisines, Southern cuisine and Kashia said this made surviving last night worth it as it was time for this Mississippi woman to lead the red team to victory and Elizabeth was concerned as traditional southern cuisine was not her speciality. First up was the battle of the catfish between southern lady Kashia and Antonio who said he was confident as his dish was perfect. However, Kashia provided a flawless dish while Antonio’s was under seasoned as the red team took the lead and Nikki extended the lead for the red team when she beat Sabrina in the battle of the fried chicken due to Sabrinas chicken being soggy. Tara then defeated Santos in the battle of shrimp and grits and Tara was delighted to keep up her recent good performances while Santos wondered how he lost, and the blue team tied up when Kanae beat Elizabeth on the battle of the ribeyes. The pressure was on Ed on the last round as his meat loaf was picked over Giovannis and he was facing Van who had been the challenge King so far and despite Ramsay praising both dishes, Ed’s was the best dish and the blue team won! Ed was ecstatic to win the challenge for the blue team against Van and Kanae said she was pumped to go on a reward after the last punishment.
The blue team went off to party and Tara said hopefully all the fat had been trimmed off the blue team so they could win service and Antonio said they had to take advantage of having 1 more person on their team. Kashia on the red team was extremely nervous for Southern night and annoyed Elizabeth by stressing about prep and telling the red team she would be the leader tonight. The blue team had an extra person and with Ed and Antonio on appetisers they got off to a flying start with Ed once again showing his leadership by taking the lead on appetisers with perfect pastas. Kanae had a great start on the fish station, serving perfect scallops and shrimp as the blue team had a great 1st half of service on appetisers. Giovanni on garnish was determined to fight back after feeling his team lost confidence in him and on garnish he got off to a great start, pushing Sabrina on meat and Kanae with Sabrina’s first ribeyes and pork flying out while Kanae sent up perfect salmon. The problems began however with Tara on the fried chicken station when she got behind on the early orders and called an extra 3 minutes saying they weren’t ready. Giovanni told Tara to give a proper time and when Tara brought up her fried chicken it was raw as Ramsay said he wasn’t ever serving raw chicken and to sort it out! Tara said she needed help as the fried chicken was thick and Antonio came over to help out. Sabrina started to struggle with communication due to checking her steaks which annoyed Giovanni on garnish but Sabrina’s steaks continued to be cooked perfect and despite Kanae’s reservations on cooking catfish, she continued to have her best service yet. Tara and Antonio argued over the fried chicken and with Ramsay telling them to hurry up, Antonio brought up the fried chicken which was still RAW and Tara said she wanted someone else to help her that wasn’t Antonio. Ed now came over to inspect the fried chicken and it finally came out as the rest of the service went smoothly for the blue team and Ramsay said if he forgot about the fried chicken it was a good service.
The red team with 1 less person was pumped and Santos on appetisers said it was his time to fight back after a few rough days and his 1st appetisers came out perfect and Kashia on fish sent perfect scallops and said tonight was not the night to get flustrated on Southern night. Elizabeth on garnish though started to have problems cooking crabcakes as despite calling 1 minute, she failed to join Kashia and Santos at the pass as the crabcakes were still cold. Elizabeth then brought them to the pass but Ramsay instantly sent them back as they were still cold in the middle and Elizabeth said she couldn’t believe it as she had cooked 1000 crabcakes in her time. Elizabeth did fight back and Santos continued to have a great service on appetisers to get the red team off to a solid start. Onto entrees and Nikki was slightly worried about being on the fried chicken station as Hells Kitchen had a mixed history on fried chicken but her first fried chicken came out perfect and Van sent up perfect ribeyes and meat loaf to continue the strong start. Kashia though started getting flustrated on the fish station and after falling behind Van and Elizabeth, she served raw catfish and Ramsay said he couldn’t believe Kashia messed up on a staple of Southern cuisine! Kashia continued to get flustered and refused Nikki’s help before sending out catfish that got approved. The problems continued as Elizabeth then dragged on Mac and cheese thanks to Van and Kashia getting behind again and when Van brought up his ribeye it was raw with Van saying he couldn’t believe his mistake and when he bounced back, Elizabeth then brought up cold mac n cheese, with Ramsay saying the team should not be struggling with such a simple menu. Van and Elizabeth did bounce back to get more entrees out but Kashia then served overcooked catfish and despite Chef Christina trying to send the entrees, Ramsay said “stop stop stop stop” and showed the overcooked catfish to the red team. Ramsay had had enough and kicked the red team out and said that him and Christina would finish the service with a few tickets left, telling them to nominate 2 idiots for elimination. He also told the blue team they would be sending 1 chef over to the red team to even the numbers and to get thinking who it would be.
Kashia was quick to blame her team for her failures on the fish station, saying that Elizabeth and Van did more to hold the team back but Van said that was complete horseshit and said Kashia was the main reason for the team losing due to failure in cooking catfish. Nikki said that Kashia had to go up and be eliminated for having horrible inconsistency all season and Santos said Elizabeth needed to go up for the same reason. Kashia and Elizabeth were nominated and despite Kashia begging to stay, Ramsay said that she had had enough chances and Southern night was her night to shine so sent her home. Elizabeth was happy to survive and felt with 10 left she had to step up as a leader and Sabrina said she had proven herself as the meat master and the final 10 was her time to shine. Tara announced she was rejoining the red team to find her voice again and this annoyed Van as he wasn’t sure what she would bring to the team.

2023.06.05 06:16 vuvuzela240gl Dog being treated for fluid on lungs, meds causing loss of appetite.
Species: dog
Age: 13
Sex/neuter: intact female
Breed: MinPin/Chi mutt
Body weight: ~17 lbs
History: Severe cough developed essentially overnight, was seen by vet on 6/1, vet was unable to hear lungs, xray showed lungs completely white with fluid. Started on Furosemide 40mg/12hr, Benazepril 10mg 1/2 pill once daily, and Doxycycline 100mg once daily. Returning to vet on 6/6 to assess lung changes and possibly alter Furosemide dosage.
Her cough has improved substantially with treatment, though it's still present, she's nowhere near as incapacitated by it now. Sleeping has improved significantly. She's more alert and up and about more. But she suddenly has zero interest in food. Both the Benazepril and Doxycycline list loss of appetite as potential side effects, so I don't think it's a matter of her being old and dying and just refusing to eat, especially as she's shown improvement with the treatment overall.
Yesterday I made her chicken and rice and she devoured it each time it was offered, but today each feeding has resulted in less interest than the previous time, with her showing no interest whatsoever in her third feeding. Her usual treats that she typically eats voraciously, she now doesn't care about. Struggling even to find something to offer meds in - tonight it was given in a small chunk of hot dog and it took four tries for her to eat it. (Very, very unlike her to not eat, especially if it's human food, usually she goes nuts and is scrambling for any trace of a scrap of a crumb she can find.)
The meds/treatment are a last ditch effort to make her more comfortable, to give both her and us a little more time.
My question is, are there other medication options that we could switch to and hopefully see her appetite return?
She (hopefully) only has 10 days left on the doxycycline, and I'm hoping that ending that medication will improve her appetite, but if I'm already struggling to pique her interest in eating anything, she's not going to make it that long.
