2023.04.16 17:25 anthony5830 Inbox Dollars Review - by Anthony Jimenez or @anthony5830

"Because it's Sunday and I'm bored. I decided to make a review for this slowly descending website and give my thought about it, give a backstory on how I found it about and really shill my refer code at the end."

"Back ground on how I found the site." - Back when I was just a couple months from turning 19 years old and going to college I wanted to get a part time job, but my mother said no. My mom (well technically my dad was since he was the one working.) was providing me with a roof over my head, and money for me to eat and that's all. I wanted a little play money for myself, and since my mom wanted me to complete college before I focus on a job I decided my next best choice was to look up on how to make side money from home. I kept finding surveys were pretty good for that. So I now use Inbox Dollars, Swagbucks, Microsoft Rewards, Surveys on the go (Mobile only.), Survey Junkie, Smore's (Mobile only.), and Receipt Hog (Mobile only.)

"Now on how it was in the past." - When I first started on the site I did a few surveys, but eventually I did got bored, so I played a few games that came with the site like solitaire which is a quick way to fill the "Scratch and Win" gauge bar to this day. During this time though there was a thing called "Billy Spin" which was a true wild card. You see with "Billy Spin" you had to have lots of luck when you basically get wheel of fortune type of game where sometimes win 5-25 extra cents for the next survey, but you can also get a no win. You get the point.

Back during those days they required you to have build up at least $30 to redeem your reward. Also they had a $3 fee every time you redeem your reward, but they put it back in your account total. just make $ 27 more to redeem. Aside from those $3 your whole amount total was basically deducted from your account. Cents and all. You couldn't just select the amount you wanted which I found annoying at times, honestly. It's wasn't all bad you could redeem checks to arrive directly to your house, and get Visa gift cards. That I liked. I can't say much else because I really didn't explore the site until 2020, so I can't say much about video, and others things.

"How it is now." - "Billy Spin" is no longer a thing. "Thank Goodness." Solitaire is still good on desktop, but on mobile I recommend "Mahjongg Dimensions." It takes longer for the "Scratch and Win" gauge bar to fill up and can only be filled up to the equivalent of one whole gauge bar. (Which back then I don't think it had limits.) If you fill your gauge bar to the triple $$$ you get at least 5 cents (guaranteed), but you can try the single or double $ tier, but I warn you. You might get a no win there. It will take longer though if you actually want 5 pennies. which is dumb, just use searches.

Searches which I knew about since the beginning, but was too lazy to actually check that it also increases your gauge meter. I didn't find out about that part until literally the last year... (That's embarrassing, honestly.) All you have to do is find a qualifying word search on the websites browser 4 times, so you can get an extra 5 cents on Wednesday. You can continue to keep searching up to the equivalent of one whole gauge bar.

Surveys. Now surveys are getting much more greedier that you're better off literally playing mobile game on your phones for hours and waste time. Speaking of which there are game offers that you can download to your phone and play for cash. Hold on though there limit like how long can you play the game for, what to upgrade in how many days. It can range from easy to just mind numbing draining. I would suggest to do the mid range games. ($25-$65 range.) Anything lower I would just find a waste of time. Getting the higher paying game you would just end up in a mental asylum, trying to keep up with what the offer demands.

You can upload receipts, but it's not really worth it since you only earn 2 cents for a product per week. You're better selling that under ripped banana for 10¢ to a homeless person. There are special occasions where it might be worth it, but for the most part upload that receipt to Receipt Hog or use it as toilet paper during a bingo game.

Speaking of bingo. Sometimes they have a Bingo game where you can earn up to $5, but I never complete one because I'm cheap, and at some spaces they require that you spent some money on Mygiftcardplus and I personally refuse to spend a single cent on things like that.

You know what I'm getting tired and cranky, so I'm just going explain how the payment process works as it is now. They discontinued checks, replaced visa with Mastercard Gift cards. In place of checks we now must have PayPal in order to redeem cash. I do enjoy that we can now select the amount which I find good and also you don't have to put in a $3 fee. The limit has been reduced to $5, but the majority of gift cards $10 or $30, so somethings haven't changed much.

2023.03.25 15:37 CaspianX2 3D Mahjong for Nintendo 3DS - Review

3D Mahjong

Genre: Card Game / Puzzle
Players: 1
.
Review:
3D Mahjong (not to be confused with the Nintendo 3DS game 3D Mahjongg) is a version of solitaire Mahjong released on Nintendo DSi via the DSiWare service in 2010 and then grandfathered into the Nintendo 3DS eShop when that system was released. This game includes 50 different tile layouts.
When it comes to the presentation, the game is presented in a simple fashion, with 2D visuals on the bottom screen for the tiles, and a simple 3D version of that on the top screen showing the tiles you’ve already removed. Interestingly, players can tap an on-screen button to flip the two, making the bottom display 3D and the top display 2D. This is a nice option, but personally I felt that the 2D visuals were easier to see, especially with the lower-resolution 3D imagery of the Nintendo DSi. You’re also given multiple options for both tile sets and backgrounds to choose from, which is nice. These visuals are all backed by plucky, low-key music that works well enough, but isn’t particularly great or inspiring. All in all, the presentation here is surprisingly good given the limitations of the original platform.
The controls here are decent, but nothing extraordinary. Players can use the touchscreen to make selections, or they can alternately use the D-Pad or Circle Pad and buttons, though this seems a little clunky. There are also on-screen buttons to undo a move, get a hint, or use the in-game menu, as well as to control the angle and rotation of the camera of whatever screen is in 3D. Unfortunately, there’s no interactive tutorial here, but otherwise there are a decent selection of options.
This game also includes bonus “Memory” and “Matching” games, which play like the classic “Win, Lose, & Draw” style card-matching game, as well as a speed variant where you can see all of the tiles/cards revealed at once. This is a nice addition, but nothing that you’re likely to spend a lot of tim with.
While the price tag of $5 seems a little high for what is in the end just Solitaire Mahjong, and the number of tile layouts is limited, this is a good selection of options for Mahjong, and I tend to think this is one of the better versions of this style of game on Nintendo 3DS. If you’re a fan of Mahjong, this may be worth picking up.
tl;dr – 3D MahJong is a version of solitaire Mahjong that has a good presentation, a decent selection of options, and sufficient controls. This game doesn’t do anything truly extraordinary, but for $5 it’s a perfectly decent version of Mahjong.

Grade: C+

Review:
3D MahJongg (not to be confused with the DSiWare game 3D Mahjong) is a version of solitaire Mahjong released on Nintendo 3DS in 2012. Er… not sure what else to say about the game in an introduction. It’s Mahjong, alright…
The presentation here is good, with a simple 2D representation of the remaining pieces on the bottom screen, and a 3D representation of both on the top screen, with players able to move the camera around if they like. This is backed by some pretty catchy background music styled to be sorta’ like a modern take on traditional Chinese music. This is probably about as good as one could hope for from a Mahjong game.
As for the gameplay… well, this is a Mahjong game. Players select pieces to match using the touchscreen, there’s an option to select rivers rules or classic rules in the game’s menus, and players can unlock various backgrounds and tile sets by playing through the game’s “Adventure” mode (don’t worry, there’s no story, it’s just a set progression of levels), or get a randomly-generated game in Free Play mode. There’s no difficulty selector, but otherwise this is a pretty good take on Mahjong.
Look, there’s nothing revelatory to say here. 3D MahJongg is just a decent game of Mahjong, with good controls and a good (but not great) selection of options. For the $5 price tag, this is a pretty good bet for those just looking to add a Mahjong game to their Nintendo 3DS collection, but don’t expect anything truly extraordinary here.

2022.04.16 15:46 rreed2000 Unable to uninstall bundled apps on 22.04 beta

I installed the beta version of 22.04 LTS and began the process of removing apps that I don't use ( Solitaire, Mahjongg and Videos) and found that they can't be uninstalled through the Software app. It shows that the apps are installed and presents an uninstall button but then says that the apps cannot be found. I was able to manually locate some of them and remove them using apt. But I can't locate the apt package (or Snap package) for the Videos app. Has anyone figured this out?

2021.11.05 15:04 Idiots-R-Invincible Need advice on setup changes (warning, long post)

Hi all,
I am currently running Debian on a NUC7 (Intel NUC7PJYH Intel® Pentium® Silver J5005, 4 cores, 4 threads @ 1.5GHz) 16GB DDR4 and a small 60GB SSD. The services I am using are:
so not very demanding stuff.
Then there is a NUC8 (NUC8i3BEH Intel® Core™ i3-8109U, 2 cores, 4 threads @ 3GHz) 8GB DDR4 and a small SSD where I am running Fedora35 for my wife. Basic usage there, web surfing, Skype and non-demanding gaming (solitaire and mahjongg...), that's her daily device.
Then there is an Odroid HC1 (specs here) with a small SSD where I run Home Assistant OS only.
All 3 devices work perfectly.
The NUC7 is hardly using its resources. As expected, with the services it's running there's a 9-12% usage of memory and 1-5% CPU, if that. I am questioning if I am using the above equipment "efficiently". The NUC8 is definitely "underused"and I am almost 100% confident that the NUC7 would be as good for the basic usage my wife needs it for. The only reason I chose to use the NUC8 for my wife and the NUC7 as a server is that I am under the impression that the NUC7 is more energy efficient for a machine running 24/7. From the links above I see that the NUC7 has a TDP of 10W and the NUC8 has a TDP of 28W. I know that the TDP is not the same as the actual consumption, but unfortunately I don't have actual measurements, so I am using it as an indication.
So here are my questions:
  1. If I was to introduce Proxmox in the equation, I could install it in one of the 2 NUCs, and then run both Home Assistant and the stuff that runs under the Debian machine all in one device. In such case, which of the two NUCs should I use? The RAM is interswappable so that's easy to do, and the NUC8 has also an M.2 slot which I could make use of.
  2. If the above happens, it means I can retire the Odroid HC1, which would save the (minimal) energy it is consuming, and Home Assistant OS would be running in a much faster hardware. On the other hand, this would mean that if the NUC running Proxmox goes down, everything goes down. Not a pleasant scenario. What are your thoughts on that?
  3. I am planning to buy a Google Coral (when they become available again) and start using Frigate for 2 IP cameras I have. Could that go into the Proxmox NUC, or would you place it on a different machine? Because if it is not recommended to be used in the Proxmox NUC, then I can just forget about it as there is no point in having yet another machine running (energy-wise).
I am kind of lost with the options I have. I want to make a system that is energy efficient, and I really like the idea of a central server for everything, but I dread the "system down, everything down" possibility.
I look forward to hearing your suggestions and apologies for the long post.

2021.08.02 19:37 bill3135 cannot load a game

I have been using DOXBox for nearly thirty years to play Nils Anderson's Mahjongg solitaire, but about two months ago it quit loading, going directly to the DOSBox status window. I hadn't changed anything in the configuration file - it just quit loading the game. Here is the configuration file:
mount F F:\
F:
cd Personal
#STATGEN mahstats -d -ns > mystats.txt
MAHJONGG
save
exit

The computer is a Dell Inspiron running Windows 10 Version 21H1. Is there something in this version of Windows that doesn't like DOSBox?
