Did 51 hours one week then 59 hours the next and today as i rode near work i said fuck it and went back home. Anyone in the same boat as me or nah ._. ?

I'm intrigued to know. I worked an outpatient hospital job in 2021/2022 and left because I was getting 20 hours a week for a promised FT gig, and couldn't financially swing it at the time. I had no say over referrals or bringing people into the clinic so I was a sitting duck basicslly.
Left for a FT position at an in-house SNF which was FT for...3 months. Now I work about 15-20 hours a week. I would only be able to swing FT hours if I were unethical and treated people for way longer periods of time or picked up the same 10 LTC people over and over and over again (knowing it's not medically necessary). Which is obviously something I'm not going to do. I'm pregnant, so the reduced hours are working for me now, but if I were single or starting out I wouldn't be able to financially do this.
A lot of the jobs in my area are posting for PT or prn gigs, very rare to see FT unless it's in school. And in my case- FT positions sure aren't guaranteed or close unless you want to be unethical.
We've been interviewing folks for prn gigs at my place (prepping for my leave) and many have told me they string together multiple prn gigs or they're having no luck finding true FT work. I'm in a mid size city metro area in a very desirable state with a HCOL.
Just curious to see what it's like for everyone else out there!

Some of these recent Blockbuster posts got me remembering when I had a school project in 7th grade. This would've been 1991. The project was to develop a business plan for a business you want to open. I don't remember how or why I settled on opening a Blockbuster store, but before the days of the internet I did the only thing I knew how to do as a 7th grader. I walked myself to the local Blockbuster and asked to speak to the manager. lol He was very helpful and enthusiastic. He gave me the phone number to the owner who had several franchises. So I called the owner. Just an incredibly helpful guy. He gave me a quick run-down of what it takes but he said, "You know, you should just call the corporate office and ask them to send you a franchise packet." So that's what I did. And since I lived in a Dallas suburb, it was a local call. The lady on the phone was so incredibly nice. (I miss the days where everyone was nice on the phone and not suspicious or put-out by you bothering them) So yeah, she took my information and mailed me a franchise packet. At that point, my work was done. It had all the information I needed in that packet. The thing I remember most about that project was, It cost $500K to open a Blockbuster location. That was the all-in cost for day-one operation. You just had to come up with the finances. And depending on location, you could make that back pretty quickly. Which brings us to part of Blockbusters downfall.
Everyone thinks it was Netflix alone that brought down Blockbuster. That's the most glaring reason. But in truth, they were having problems as early as 1996. There were a lot of reasons Blockbuster went down. One was, they were expanding way too quickly. The ethos was was definitely, if you build it - they will come. In my city of 100,000 there was one Blockbuster location in 1991. (And i remember how busy it was on Friday and Saturday nights. We'd go and have to put someone in line while we browsed for movies.) By 2000, there were 12 locations in town. The first location to close, closed in 2004. By 2013 there were 2 or 3 left.
Anyway, just thought some of you would find this of interest.

Whenever HP and its writing comes up, the strengths are usually said to be the description of the images and the character driven story, while the overall writing is okay.
One of the most repeated arguments in favor of the writing a lot of times is how the earlier books were written for children, and how they evolved over time to age with their readers.
Now, I have problem with that; Or more like, am confused. I LOVED the first movies and the world. Before that I got the first book as a child. And I absolutely HATED the book. I was no big reader, but I read. And boy, I couldnt get through any amount of double digit number of pages before putting the book to the side. As a child, I found it so utterly terrible written; I only went to the movie because of friends. After the awesome first movie I tried to get back into it - Goddamn, I just couldnt stand it.
As it happens, HP content likes to hit the front page. Im still nostalgic for the movies, so I often look into the threads. As the people argue, they often cite quotes of the books. And nearly without exception, even with later books, I groan and feel put off by the writing. E.g. conversations, they never flow or feel natural for me. It all reads so bad. I know this ain't GRRM levels, but I just can't read this. And I got through Eragon back then!
So, since the latest frontpage post, this just got me wondering... Does JR have some specific style that I absolutely dont vibe with? Is the writing in general just bad and people praise it for nostalgic reasons? I cant think of any other book (granted I read only a few a year) that gets such reactions out of me. Maybe something like 50 shades of grey, but thats only from hearsay - The movies I was forced through were enough.
Im just so confused because even as a kid I hated it so much, and I never warmed up to the books. Instead, it only gets worse whenever I see some book excerpt.

I was at a grocery store the other day with my daughter. She was in the cart. I get to the checkout, I’m the last person in that line, but I’m in the lane. Uh oh, I forgot the chips. Well luckily they’re on an end cap right across from the checkout lane I’m in. So I very slowly, very briefly, walked from the cart maybe 15-20 steps. Maybe 10-15 seconds. I don’t think I even broke a line of sight. When I walk away my daughter calls for me. I say, I’m right here baby. She’s not crying or screaming. When I return to the line I’m still the last person in the lane. But the cashier scolds me. She says, “don’t you ever leave your baby like that,” It kind sounds like she’s joking, but maybe serious a bit. I assume be use my child called for me at first. Then she says it again louder, more seriously, everyone in like the next few aisles looks at me. And I’m just kind speechless, like she’s kind of making me sound like I abandoned my child or something or put her in danger.
For a little context, this is an upscale grocery store in an upscale neighborhood, not like dollar general in the hood. And I’m not saying that to shame any dads shopping there, I’m just saying dad senses weren’t tingling from the environment.
I told my wife, she’s like yeah she’s whatever. I told someone in the comments of toddlers and was made to feel like a piece of shit again. Am I monster and need to reevaluate my parenting?

CW: this is long and contains mentions of SA. I'm really sorry if this isn't the place to post this. I just really need help right now or just one person to listen because I feel like it's all in my head . . I'm in a fragile state rn because I just woke up from nightmares about my ex so I'm going to do my best to type this. My ex called me out of the blue and my ex calling me makes me so scared. It makes me throw up, sweat, run to the toilet, and cry at times. I always thought that meant I was excited to talk to him but my therapist made me realize that maybe that's not healthy. Well, he called and tried to tell me that I only ever wanted to hurt him in the relationship and then started talking about events that happened except twisted my words when I had proof that that's not what happened. Then he changed it up to "well I apologized and still" or said it a little differently.
I never want to invalidate or hurt my ex because their experiences are real to them and that matters. But they're also going through something serious that has led to me dealing with their unstable emotional state for years. I don't even like saying that because I don't want to invalidate them. But I had proof these things that they're talking about didn't happen or that their words don't match up to what they said and they're convinced it was me. They said they were scared of me and that I wanted to hurt them and such. That scared me because I ALWAYS asked for communication and for honesty and tried to check in with our relationship to see if things were okay. I always tried my best to listen and be supportive. But often times I would be supportive and my words were twisted. Or id communicate and they would ignore me and claim they were trying to fix it. I tried to see their side for years but I wish I listened to my friends when they told me to leave.
I've been going to therapy and while my therapist tries to hide it, I can tell she was relieved when I left him. She had helped me realize that my physical responses to him being near or calling were not normal. She told me that it sounded like I might be being neglected and at least being subject to things that were potentially harmful. It was at that time that I found out I might have been sexually abused by him over and over again which has left me broken and angry with myself. I didn't know that if you asked someone to stop because it hurts that they have to stop or else it's sexual assault. I thought that it meant he was too caught up in his pleasure and didn't mean it. I thought maybe he didn't hear me when I withdrew my consent but he did it anyways. Or that I lead him on when I told him I didn't want sex but was okay with anything else and he did it anyways...I didn't know. I thought it was that he didn't mean it. I've had nightmares ever since. I then made the mistake of wanting to ask him if he really didn't hear me that night but couldn't even get the words out and had a panic attack and had to call a crisis hotline. My ex told me I'm obligated to tell him what I wanted to say if it involves him. I said no and that I don't feel safe to right now. I can't even get through this post without crying.
He never paid for me and it was always me paying for him, he asked for money and then admitted to him not needing it and buying random things with it, he embarrassed me because he'd do things like lift my leg up over his head in public while I was in a skirt or would follow me around public places with a very obvious boner and people would stare and I just wanted to hide because he knew that he had it and said he always does with me, he told me I wasn't a "real adult". He told me I didn't understand the world. I called him after my pet died and he said he was at a friend's right now and wanted to play games with them and I was just left alone. He also hung out with someone who sexually assaulted me and he told me he forgot and that the person apologized (they didn't) and that I should let it go instead of breathing down his back about why that hurt my feelings.
I'll admit that I did constantly reach out to try to communicate or point out boundaries or constructive criticism (I never meant to hurt them, I just wanted to say I didn't like they they didn't communicate or that they didn't get help and took things out in me, etc) and he told me that I was being hurtful and that I only cared about bringing him down and that he has less nightmares being around me. Now I'm feeling so confused and hurt. Am I the bad guy? Was I too much? I don't wanna bring him down or invalidate him but I'm so torn up right now.

TLDR: - told receptionist to make sure she booked me for enough time with my stylist for back-to-back foils for bleach because i have long hair and last time it took hours - i asked stylist to make my hair golden and NOT ASHY - she does my hair. she says there wasn’t enough time for bleach and to “give her a heads up next time” so she just put a color in my hair. charged $245 for color and asked for a tip - my hair looks further away from the inspiration picture than when i came in. my hair was already golden when i came in. she made it look ashy and grey. it’s the exact opposite of what i wanted. she books me for 2 weeks later for the actual bleaching session i originally wanted…

my hair was originally dark brown and i’m in the process of going blonde. my first session with this stylist took about 6 hours of back-to-back foils of bleach because my hair is so long.
it’s been a month so i scheduled the next session. i tried to communicate with the receptionist that i have long hair and last time we did back-to-back foils of bleach. i even asked if she was sure there was enough time because i was there for hours last time. “yes, there’s definitely enough time”
i show up the the appointment at 11:00am thinking i will be there for 6 hours getting another bleach session to go even lighter. i show the inspo picture. i say “i want it to be golden- i DON’T want it to be ashy”. 2 stylists look at the inspo pic- one of them even says to her “wow it looks like she has NO toner in there at all”
they put me in the chair. they talk to each other in the background about lightening my hair for 15 minutes and doing a “pre-toner” and keeping the warmth. i think everything’s fine. after 1 hour and a half they start blow-drying my hair. no foils were done. no bleach was done. i was like “that’s weird, how am i done already”
i look in the mirror. i see my hair is GREY. ashy. it already looked golden before i came into the appointment- and they did the OPPOSITE of what i wanted. it looks even darker then when i came in. my hair looked more like the inspo picture BEFORE.
i literally want to cry. they ask to take pictures for their instagram and i let them. the stylist says “next time you have to give me a heads up before you come in because to get you lighter it would take HOURS”. i’m so confused because i already told receptionist it would take hours of back to back foils and i asked the receptionist to make sure there was enough time. the stylist said “we just did a color today so it shouldn’t be too much”.
i want to cry in the salon but i’m thinking “okay it’s just color- it shouldn’t be too much maybe $80”. then they said $245. she asks for the tip so i tip her 15% on the ipad. i book an appointment with her for two weeks for the ACTUAL bleaching session i wanted. i go cry in my car because now i have ugly grey hair for 2 weeks and wasted nearly $300 for hair that i hate and think is ugly.
