dumbest things my ex got mad about.

2023.06.07 13:51 -Serenity28- dumbest things my ex got mad about.

First off al English is not my first language I'll try my best to write correctly.
So what I'm about to tell you happend years ago in 2011. I remember that because my uncle died the month prior due to a heart attack. Unfortunately heart attacks runs in the family. We knew 100% for sure as soon as my uncle died from it. He was one of to many. This detail will come back later. the ages called are the ages we were in 2011. Yea yea i know my ex was a bit older. But in my defense we grew up together from when i was 3. And he was 7. And due to my difficult youth because both of my parents were addicted and my dad died when i was six. I grew up really fast to say the least.
So my ex (male 21 ). Me (female 17) were on a night out. We both had something to drink (not to much) and later on went to my mother's house. Were i lived at the time. He basically lived there as well. For a late night snack we wanted to make grilled cheese sandwich. Each of us had 4 slices of bread to make 2 for each. The bag with bread layed on the counter next to him (litterly). He had one out of 4 slices that was half the size of the other 3. He asked me if he could have one of my slices to make it even. I said "no" with my eye falling on de bag with bread next to his arm. I figured; he didn't saw the bag at first and he'll look for it. I saw him looking at it and he went straight to me and asked again. I said: no, i saw you looking at the bag why don't just put the small one back and grab one that is the same size? He stood there for a bit, looked at his plate with the slices. Then looked at me and called me a whore. Back then he was my first and only of course. He went straight upstairs. Left everything. I was so hurt by that. My apatite went straight out of the window. I Cleaned everything up. Put everything back in to place. Ather that i also went up stairs. Layed my self to bed. While he was behind the computer i think starting up a game or something. So after a while of silence and my thoughts "we need to talk about this" I said: so we're not gonna tall about you calling me a whore". He kept quit for a bit. Until i said: you think it's normal to call me that over a slice of bread. He cut me in my sentence and yelled at me saying: i hope you'll die just like your uncle.
After that i cried myself to sleep. When i tried talking about it the next day. He told me, i shouldn't drag old mud out of the pond. (If i say that correct.) Don't talk about the past is what i mean. We had a little discussion about what i wanted to talk about isn't something of years back or something we cleared between us before. He always would end it by hitting me.

You can find the original blog post, complete with all the shiny covers, here.
If you would like to be kept up to date with the upcoming lists, please subscribe to my newsletter by clicking this link. I don’t send out letters too often, pretty much once a month when this list goes out… and occasionally if I release a book or something.
As always, this is not a comprehensive list, but only includes all the books I have heard about so far.
If you have a fantasy novel you are self publishing in June or beyond, let me know by filling out THIS FORM, and I shall add it to the page. There are but 3 requirements:
1) It must be a self published fantasy novel.
2) It must have a Goodreads page.
3) It must have a cover.

The king stands increasingly alone against: the Constantines, a commercial enterprise as much as a clan, who aim to profit from peace as they have from war – the warrior nobles, descended from the founders of Florence and quick to turn against a weak throne – and Reburrus, the high priest of Florence, convinced Claire answers to hostile foreign gods. As the city comes to a boil, Claire and Marcus – and Marcus’s formidable army – will have to decide where their allegiance lies.

1st June – The Nameless Restaurant by Tao Wong

Urban Fantasy, Cozy Fantasy
There is a restaurant in Toronto. Its entrance is announced only by a simple, unadorned wooden door, varnished to a beautiful shine but without paint, hidden beside dumpsters and a fire escape. There is no sign, no indication of what lies behind the door. If you do manage to find the restaurant, the décor is dated and worn. Homey, if one were to be generous. The service is atrocious, the proprietor a grouch. The regulars are silent, brooding, and unfriendly to newcomers. There is no set menu, alternating with the whim and whimsy of the owner. The selection of wine and beer is sparse or non-existent at times, and the prices for everything outrageous. There is a restaurant in Toronto that is magically hidden, whose service is horrible, but whose food is divine. This is the story of the Nameless Restaurant.

21st June – Hierachy of the Unseen by B. Pigeon & Fell A. Marsh

Epic Fantasy
Demons and humans are locked in endless struggle.
This is an intrinsic fact of nature. The demons believe their salvation lies in bleeding humanity of the life-force called light, while the humans are equally determined to defend it.
Within the sprawling empire of Lu-nevet, the two sides have settled into an uneasy peace, employing less violent tactics. But this peace can only hold for so long.
The state religion of Lukeira sends devout demon hunter Mitzli deep into the borderlands to bless the victims of demonic pranks. Once they arrive, however, they find unexpected signs of violence. They team up with irreligious hunter Veleiry to investigate—and the destruction the two uncover is an ominous sign of what’s to come.
Meanwhile, shiftless demon Kor falls under the scrutiny of his vampiric commander, Mant—meaning he must actually do the work of tormenting humans, rather than taking credit from his now-ex-partner Yez. Slowly, he begins to realize that the demons’ strategy is shifting, and may be heading down a path he cannot follow.
Mitzli and Kor will have to betray their respective factions if they want to put an end to the violence before it escalates. But the two of them, both outcasts among their own kind, are the only ones who know the truth. How can they protect the world if no one will listen?

Boomerang Monkey
This part has to be included along with the Lych Soul rework with Paragons which is finally making it in this update after necessary delays. As Boomerang Paragon’s knockback hits so many times so quickly, we need to make it more reasonable when applied to targets that aren’t immediately destroyed.
Bomb Shooter
MOAB Assassin fills a useful role of a pure long cooldown ‘single target assassination’ in the game, but when compared to something like First Strike it feels a little lacking that it is unable to carry damage through MOAB Layers
Tack Shooter
Blade Shooter has always struggled to find much value without MK or as a step to Maelstrom, so to give it build value on its own we feel like this should be a part of the base value on the upgrade.
Ice Monkey
Lowest tiers of ice monkey are far too effective for their cost against ceramics, with this scaling well all the way to round 100, we feel like ice duration against ceramics needs to be reduced to counter this but for now this reduction will only apply until T3.
Glue Gunner
The Bloon Solver’s rework has been very popular, however, we’d like to have a better lead up into the new mechanics by introducing this earlier at the tier 4 now.
Sniper Monkey
This will allow Cripple MOAB to take out regular MOAB layers in one shot until round 100; for such a slow attacking single target tower we feel this will help top path flex, even if mostly for show.
Monkey Buccaneer
Reworking Grape Shot crosspathing as it gains far too much crosspath value by T2 but then is lacking in purpose at higher tiers, double shot will only work as one extra grape however Destroyer will now apply its full attack rate buff to the grapes and Flagship will equip aspects of Grape Shot on the mini planes.
Monkey Ace
Spectre is shifting a little of the ceramic bonus around into basic all damage at the cost of reduced pierce, which should make up for lack of single target damage while also making the pierce crosspath more necessary when being used for cleanup focus.
Heli Pilot
Even with the map-range advantage, rotors are weak compared to any other constant AoE circle like this. Chinook feels like it’s near a place we are happy with now, however we want another tiny nudge on cost while keeping cash generation value the same. Pushing some higher values on the last Comanche Commander changes as the missile attack is effectively such a small portion of the tower’s total damage late game.
Mortar Monkey
As the Rapid Reload crosspath has actually fallen behind in value compared to Burny Stuff for top path Mortars we want to try a slight stun duration increase as this buffs the base path with a larger benefit to Rapid Reload mortars as a stalling option. Mortar consistency is lacking at x3x making it tough to spend on even though x4x is fairly good, so some of the T4 rate is shifting down to help out with this. As the camo property has grown quite weak and currently Signal Flare is considered the best decamo tool, we want to push back slightly on its cost and by reducing the blast radius of the decamo area while emphasizing crosspathing for effectiveness there.
Super Monkey
As Engineer sentries do this already, newly spawned Mini Avatars from temples will now by default match the target priority of the temple.
Ninja Monkey
We’re changing the Ninja Monkey Paragon’s focus as a fighter against camo, as we feel like a greater strength and tactical value against camo will be the full reveal of all camos rather than all camo removal.
Alchemist
Alchemist Transforming Tonic is in a weird spot with the transformation unable to attack through walls when the base alchemist is able to. Also with this, including a QoL fix for the T5 that currently prevents transformed towers from functioning with target priority.
Druid
While the tornado doesn't do anything to MOABs, it still spends itself on them which wastes a relatively long cooldown, so addressing this flaw. Avatar of wrath doubles the base attack speed before any scaling is applied, but this hasn’t ever applied to the 205 Lightning, so taking care of that as well. Housekeeping - even deep in the forest, it does actually make life better.
Spike Factory
We’ve heard the feedback, so Spiked Mines get a tweak to get more mines exploding but with less pierce on each, to overall increase quality of life in more frequent use but less wasted pierce. This will help out with some of the problems it has scaling into late game super ceramics.
Monkey Village
A minor QoL for cheap Monkeyopolis creation, we included a small base amount of cash production to the generation formula.
Engineer
The 005 crosspath fix in the last update left XXXL Trap slower than previously even if crosspathed to 205, so we are increasing that base 005 slightly to match up the 205 crosspath again so that it isn’t any slower than before.
Beast Handler
As our newest tower to be added to BTD6, we went over feedback for every path and made a large number of adjustments addressing a variety of points.
Gwendolin
Removing the stacking aspect of Gwendolin’s burn damage over time, but increasing the damage as she levels up so that it actually scales up in power now.
Adora
While they are complicated individuals, Adora can now fully appreciate the sacrifice of the newest Monkeys in the struggle against the Bloons.
Admiral Brickell
We aren’t happy with strats that start looking like exploits with frequent sell-replace loops.
Psi
Psi’s stalling out of the end of round is an odd mix of useful / annoying / out of control, so we are for now capping this to a 3 seconds of overtime stalling. Psi’s Psychic Blast ability also has weirdly low pierce for a long cooldown ability with no damage, we are increasing the base pierce greatly but it no longer increases in pierce at Lv7 since the extra pulse brings more pierce anyway.
Event / Boss / Relic / Knowledge
Looking Forward
Five months of 2023 done and dusted, which feels to us like it has zoomed by, perhaps because the Auckland office where the BTD6 team is based has only just reopened after the severe flooding at the end of January. All of Update 36 and the majority of Update 37 were completed while again working from home, but we’re very excited to have the office repairs done, the flood wall almost finished, and the ability to work shoulder to shoulder again on fun new things for the monkeyverse! Here’s the latest gaze into the crystal ball:

2023.06.07 07:43 nsideus Trip Report - 19 days in Japan with an infant and a toddler

We are a family of 4 with two young kids, a toddler who’s nearing 3 years old and an infant who is 9 months old. We visited Japan in May of 2023 for 18 nights. We stayed in Tokyo, Kyoto, and Osaka, and took day trips to Nara and Kobe.
Some people might call us crazy for taking an international trip with two small children. But my wife and I, who were avid travelers before we had kids, hadn’t been out of the country since 2019 due to 1) having kids and 2) Covid. We were itching for a trip, so we took the chance. Were there some crazy times? Of course. Was it worth it? Definitely.
I did a lot of research and prep before the trip, but there are always surprises that come up when you have kids. I’ll try to share some of the lessons I learned on the trip.
—Flights—
This was our first time on an airplane with the kids. I was a bit worried beforehand and in retrospect the flights were the worst parts of the trip. The main advice I’d give is do as much as you can to make your flight more tolerable, which no doubt means spending more money on tickets and gear. But it’s worth it.
I considered a few different airlines for this trip: ZipAir, Singapore, ANA, and Japan Airlines. JAL was too expensive. ZipAir was interesting because they provide car seats, you don’t have to take your own. We didn’t rent a car in Japan so we didn’t need our own car seats. I was just worried about racking up extra fees on ZipAir. Singapore and ANA were similar, they both provide bassinets and the price was similar. I ended up going with ANA for two reasons: 1) I had flown ANA on a previous trip and been happy with them and 2) they fly to Haneda instead of Narita, which saves you time getting from the airport to your hotel.
We opted for 3 seats and a bassinet. My infant is big for her age so she barely fit in the bassinet (she’s 21 pounds). But we were glad to have it. I had to call in to ANA customer service which had an hour+ wait time to get the bassinet, but other than that it was no trouble.
Which leads me into probably the most important part of flying with kids on a lengthy flight: get your kids to sleep on the plane. The more they sleep the less likely you are to run into a tantrum or meltdown.
To encourage sleeping we did a few things: 1) Take an overnight flight 2) Get a bassinet for our infant 3) Get a JetKids bed box for our toddler. Our ANA flight from LAX left at 5pm, which allowed time for the dinner service to show up before we put our kids to bed. They set the bassinet up right after you get to cruising altitude, so it’s there the majority of the flight. Our infant rejected it at first but eventually fell asleep.
As far as our toddler sleeping, the JetKids worked well. There was a bit of trouble with it staying in place since we had bulkhead seats, but overall I was happy with it as a bed. I absolutely hate the JetKids a piece of luggage though, it’s not easy to lug around and holds nearly nothing. But it helped our toddler stay asleep most of the flight. You don’t necessarily need a JetKids though, other airline seat bed solutions may work just as well. Just bring something that will help your toddler sleep. If we had to do it again, I think I’d prefer having car seats over both the bassinet and JetKids. That’s probably what we’ll do on the next trip.
There were a few unexpected problems we ran into on the flights. On the first flight, our infant got motion sickness and spit up multiple times. She ruined one of my shirts and my wife’s pants. Not to mention my wife got motion sickness as well so I had to do most of the heavy lifting with the kids alone. It was a sleepless and messy flight.
On our flight home, there was a mechanical issue with the plane. They said we were losing oil. So on a Tokyo to Los Angeles flight we somehow ended up landing In Anchorage, Alaska. It goes without saying this was horrible and the flight home from Anchorage on Alaska Airlines was horrible too. But that’s not really relevant to flying to/from Japan so I’ll leave the details out. We won’t be flying with ANA ever again.
To reiterate, do what you can to make your flight easier. Get the non-stop flight. Get the extra seat. This isn’t the area to be frugal.
—Stroller—
So you survived the flight. How do you get your kids around once you’ve landed? We have two kids so we need a twin stroller right? Wrong. Taking a twin stroller to Japan is a huge mistake, don’t do it.
Most guides will tell you to use a carrier, and if you only have one small infant then that’s likely the way to go. But with two kids we used a travel stroller and carrier combo. At first I expected to only use the carrier and carry the stroller around until we needed it, but I quickly realized that carrying the stroller around all day is a huge pain. We have the Cybex Libelle which is small at 13lbs, but 13lbs is still heavy enough that you don’t want to carry it all day.
So our stroller remained deployed basically all the time. My infant sat in the stroller most of the day, until it was my toddler’s nap time. Then the infant went in the carrier and toddler in the stroller to sleep. It worked well for us.
How did we keep the stroller deployed the whole time? Elevators. Lots of elevators. And occasionally carrying it up and down stairs. The availability of elevators depends on where you are. Of the cities we visited, I’d say Tokyo is the best and Kyoto is the worst for elevator availability.
The wide majority of metro and train stations are going to have elevators. It can be hard to find the right entrance to use to find an elevator, but there is always signage and almost always a map. You may need to walk an extra 5 minutes, or wait in line, or get lost, so always give yourself extra time when catching a train if you are using your stroller. We spent a LOT of time looking for elevators on this trip.
We only found two stations our whole trip that had no elevator at all, one was the JR Kobe station and the other was a JR station in Tokyo (I forget which one). When this happened, I picked up the stroller and carried it with our infant in it on the stairs. If our toddler was in it I made her get up and walk, then carried the stroller.
The other problem at metro / train stations with a stroller is the gap between the train and the platform. There’s always either a gap or the train and platform are at different elevations. You don’t have a lot of time to get on / off the train so this was a constant source of anxiety. Once our stroller wheel got stuck in between the train and the platform. It took some effort to pop it out. Another time my toddler stepped in the gap, but luckily I was holding her hand and stopped her from falling in. Always be mindful of the gap when you have kids. It’s probably one of the least safe situations you’ll constantly run into in Japan.
Malls and shopping centers almost always have elevators. You may need to wait a while to get one though. In the malls with 10+ floors, you might need to wait 5 minutes for an elevator. Sometimes they have “priority” elevators for the handicapped and strollers but often times perfectly abled people rudely take up all the space in those elevators.
We thought we would have trouble taking our stroller into restaurants but it was actually much less trouble than expected. There was only one restaurant that flat out turned us away, Sushi Tokyo Ten in Roppongi. Other establishments will usually move a chair so you can put your stroller at the table or counter where the chair was.
So overall the stroller was annoying to use but I don’t think we could have done the trip without it. It was a necessary evil with two young kids.
—Shinkansen—
We used the Shinkansen to get between cities. We had two trips, Tokyo to Kyoto and Osaka to Tokyo. We did not bother with the JR Pass, it wasn’t worth it. Mostly because our trips were 8 days apart so we would’ve needed the 14 days pass which wasn’t worth it for two Shinkansen trips.
One thing that caught us off-guard about the Shinkansen is how quickly it leaves a station when it makes a stop. We were expecting to have some time to get on when the train arrived, but it’s basically the same as a Metro stop. You have to get on right away. We made the mistake of buying a reserved seat for a train leaving in less than 15 minutes, without knowing where the elevator was. So we scrambled to get to where we needed to go on the platform and were the last ones on the train. We jumped on the train at the last second, we wanted to get to our specific car from the platform but we weren’t going to make it. It’s a miracle we didn’t lose a piece of luggage or a kid on the way. On the second trip I reserved a seat on a train that was 40 minutes out.
As far as seating we only needed to buy two seats. We would have put our toddler on our lap if needed, but we didn’t need to. Basically, one side of the train has 2 seats and the other 3. If you find a row that has the window seat open on the 3 seat side, then it is very unlikely anyone will sit in the aisle seat if you reserve the window and middle seat. We basically got a free seat for our toddler this way on both trips.
—Baby supplies—
We had more trouble than expected finding baby supplies. A lot of guides online tell you to go to drugstores, and maybe we were going to the wrong drugstores but that wasn’t working out for us. We were distraught until we by chance came across Babies R Us. Yes, the Babies R Us that went out of business in the USA. We happened to be browsing the malls in Odaiba when we came across this gem. It’s a treasure trove of western style baby food and supplies.
Our infant is in the “purée” food stage and we didn’t find any in drugstores. Most of the baby food is juice or rice porridge. Babies R Us has aisles worth of puréed food. It has diapers, wet wipes, formula, nose cleaners, and basically anything else you’d ever want for your baby. We stocked up on everything when we found this place. There are several locations but we went to the Odaiba location in Tokyo and the Harborland location in Kobe.
Another smaller store we found in the mall below Tokyo Skytree is Dadway. They don’t have as much as Babies R Us but we did pick up some purée here.
The other place we picked up diapers and a few others things is Don Quijote, which has locations all over the place. Their baby food collection is basically as limited as drugstores, but it’s fine in a pinch.
—Eating—
I’ve spoken a lot about logistics, but I had one primary reason for going to Japan: to eat tasty food. I had been to Japan once before I had kids and fell in love with the food.
Most guides will tell you families should go to family restaurants. Nope. Not happening. We did not go to a single Saizeriya or Bikkuri Donkey. And I definitely did not go through all of this trouble to eat at Denny’s. We went to a total of ZERO family restaurants.
I’m here to tell you there are plenty of good restaurants you can go to with kids. Even with a baby. Even with a baby and a toddler.
I’ll tell you my main approach to finding restaurants that will allow kids to dine with you. Your main tools are: Tablelog, Google Maps, and the individual restaurant websites. Tablelog is a great tool and their “with children” section on the restaurant info page is very accurate. If a restaurant is listed as “Babies are welcome” or “Baby Strollers accepted”, then you can very likely eat there with a baby. If a place does not have such a listing, it isn’t necessarily a no, it’s a maybe. That’s when you need to search Google Maps reviews for “kids”, “children”, “family” to see if anyone mentions the restaurant’s stance on such things. If you can’t find anything on Google Maps, go to the restaurant’s website. If they have an online reservation system, it is likely to list their stance on kids on the reservation page.
I did a lot of research beforehand and pinned all the relevant restaurants on Google Maps. That way, no matter where I was, I could find some good kid tolerant restaurants. I say “kid-tolerant” instead of “kid friendly” because I consider “kid-tolerant” to mean that they let kids in the restaurant, while “kid-friendly” means they have a kid’s menu, high chairs, etc.
We were able to eat at a wide variety of restaurants, from overpriced Michelin starred places to budget Omakase places. There are a lot of restaurants in Japan. If a restaurant doesn’t let you in because you have kids, it’s fine because there’s another similar one that will.
This is a list of good restaurants we ate at with our infant and toddler. These are just the places we made it to, there were plenty more I had on my list we didn’t make it to:
Gion Maruyama, Gion, Kyoto
Sushi Wakon, Four Seasons, Kyoto
The Oak Door, Grand Hyatt, Tokyo
Kobe Plaisir, Kobe
Roku Roku, Grand Hyatt, Tokyo
Daiwa Sushi, Toyosu Market, Tokyo
Inshotei, Ueno Park, Tokyo
Sushidan, Eat Play Works, Tokyo
Nishiya, Shinsaibashi, Osaka
Tonkatsu Wako, JR Isetan, Kyoto
Soju Dining, Tokyo Midtown, Tokyo
Imakatsu, Roppongi, Tokyo
Mizuno, Dotonbori, Osaka
Rokurinsha, Tokyo Station, Tokyo
Tsumigi, Tsukiji, Tokyo
Lots of different food stalls in Tsukiji Market, Tokyo
Other times we ate at conveyor belt sushi places, department store basements, or ramen places. The basements are a good place to get something for everyone. My toddler ate a lot of gyoza and noodles on this trip, she didn’t take a liking to much else. But Ichiran and Ippudo were right down her alley.
Tsukiji market was our go to breakfast place when we stayed in Tokyo. There’s plenty of different choices there and it opens early enough for jet-lagged families.
Overall I had a great time eating. If my toddler is eating she’s usually not having a tantrum, and we tried as best as possible to put our infant to sleep before we went to any higher end restaurants. There were some awkward tantrum moments but for the most part it was fine.
—City by City Report—
Tokyo
We had two different stays in Tokyo, the first after landing in Japan and the second right before departing Japan. We stayed a total of 10 nights in Tokyo, but we wish we had even more.
We could have come to Tokyo alone the whole trip and been perfectly content. It has the best food, the most kid friendly facilities, and there’s plenty to see and do.
Here’s a few choice things we did with the kids:
DisneySea: My toddler loved this one. We’ve been to Disneyland in SoCal but this is completely different. Even I was excited since it’s been a long while since I’ve been to an unexplored Disney park. A lot of people will say DisneySea is for older kids but there were plenty of rides my toddler could get on. It’s a great place for toddlers. A must visit with kids.
Ueno park: We spent a whole day in Ueno Park. There’s a great zoo, a fun Natural History Museum, and good restaurants. We picked up bento boxes from Inshotei and ate them at a picnic table in the zoo. I think this park is also a must do with kids.
One of the city views: you have a few choices here but we went to Tokyo Skytree and Shibuya Sky. Shibuya sky is a little less kid friendly, because they don’t allow strollers on the roof and they have some weird rules about holding your baby on the roof. I think they’re scared of a wind gust pulling your baby off the roof? I like the mall at Tokyo Skytree, and there’s a Rokurinsha there too (very good dipping ramen).
Small Worlds: This is a miniature museum on one of the man-made islands in the bay. It’s a little out of the way, but we made a day out of Toyosu Market, Small Worlds, and Odaiba. My toddler liked this one, the exhibits are interactive and fun to look at. It was better than expected.
Other than that we did a lot of eating and shopping in Tokyo for us adults.
Kyoto
Kyoto was probably our least favorite city to do with kids. In general it’s just hard to get around. There’s a lot of stroller unfriendly places. Streets without sidewalks. Rough cobblestone-like roads. Temples are not stroller friendly. Hills everywhere. Good luck getting to the top of the monkey park with a stroller. It’s definitely a trend in this city.
Maybe if you have older kids it’s fine. But if you have younger than elementary school kids it’s probably skippable. There’s not that many kid friendly activities here either. Temples aren’t interesting for kids. The best kid activity here is probably the Arashiyama Monkey Park. My toddler got a real kick out of feeding the monkeys. Just be aware there is a significant hike to get to the top of the hill where the monkeys are. My toddler is a pretty good walker, she made it all the way without crying or complaining. But I saw some other kids that didn’t fare as well.
The other thing you might try near the monkey park is the Arashiyama bamboo forest. I think it’s one of the most overrated sights in Japan though. It’s just mobbed with tourists all day. It’s not enjoyable with the crowds. I’ve been here twice and I’ve been disappointed both times.
I doubt we will be back to Kyoto any time soon.
Osaka
Osaka was nice. It was a bit refreshing to have many of the Tokyo conveniences again. Elevators everywhere, well paved and flat roads, and plenty of baby rooms.
Osaka is a good base for taking nearby day trips as well. We went to both Kobe and Nara without needing to take the Shinkansen.
The best kid experience in Osaka is the Kaiyukan aquarium. It’s big. The central tank with the whale sharks is impressive. They have lots of different animals from all over the world. It’s bigger and better than any aquarium we have in California.
The one thing I wasn’t prepared for was the lines. You need to pre-book your timed entry tickets online. We didn’t, and ended up getting tickets that were for entry two hours later. And we were there right when they opened. If I go to the aquarium at opening time on a weekday where we are from we can walk right in. Lesson learned.
We stayed in Shinsaibashi and it’s a very walkable area. There’s a covered shopping street that goes all the way down to Dotonbori. Namba is walkable from there. And America-mura is between Shinsaibashi and Dotonbori.
The Daimaru mall in Shinsaibashi is good for kids. There’s a Bornelund in there with a small indoor playground, a Pokémon Center, and good food.
I liked Osaka overall. The only thing I thought was a let down was okonomiyaki.
Nara
Nara was worth the trip. It’s about 45 minutes from Namba on the train, so not too out of the way.
There’s deer all over. Deer that bow to you. In the park, on the sidewalk, in the street. It’s a unique experience you should see at least once.
The deer are rather aggressive when you have food for them. It’s not a place where you want your kids feeding the deer. As soon as you buy the food from the street vendor, they mob you. They try to snatch the food out of your hand. Make sure you watch someone else do it first before deciding to do it yourself. If I let my toddler do it she probably would have been terrified.
The other must see in Nara is Todai-ji. It’s impressive. The giant Buddha is something. This was probably the best temple we saw on this trip, it’s visually stunning. More than anything we saw in Kyoto. I did have to carry the stroller up and down some steps, but there’s not too many.
Kobe
Kobe was great. It exceeded my expectations. The trip from Osaka is easy. We spent a full day there.
We started our one day in Kobe at the Nunobiki Herb Gardens. I wasn’t expecting too much but this place is really nice. It’s big, with lots of different gardens and exhibits to see. There’s great views as well. We took lots of pictures.
There’s a few different places to eat and drink in the gardens as well. We had some sparkling rose at “The Veranda” which had a great view of Kobe. We didn’t eat because we had a lunch reservation down the hill.
There’s a few things to watch out for. This place gets busy, so get there early. There’s no reservations, you just go early and wait in line. When we left at midday the line was massive, so get there when they open.
The herb garden only takes up the top half the hill. At first I thought it extended to the bottom of the hill, but the bottom half of the hill is actually a hiking trail without gardens. So I bought a one way gondola ticket to the top expecting to walk down all the way, but after I realized the garden ended at the middle I bought another ticket to go down (instead of getting the round trip ticket like I should have).
After the gardens we went to eat Kobe beef. Kobe Plaisir was the restaurant I chose, which was both high end and had a kids menu. The beef was great and everyone had a good time.
Afterwards we went to Harborland. It’s a nice area on the harbor that has a big boat you can go out on, and a couple of shopping malls. The Anpanman museum is here too but by the time we got there tickets were sold out for the day. This is also where you can find a Babies R Us.
Our Kobe day was one of the best days of our trip. I’d suggest a day trip here for anyone.
—Closing—
It’s hard to travel with kids this age. No doubt. Everything will take more time and be more expensive than when you used to travel alone. But I do not regret taking this trip at all. As a matter of fact I want to go back right now. My wife loved the trip, and my toddler might even remember it when she grows up. She still talks about feeding the monkeys and how dad ate a “real fish” (A Japanese sweetfish they grilled in front of us at Gion Maruyama). Japan is a great place for a first family trip.

2023.06.07 05:46 BladeofJae [Battle] Sodom and Gomorrah

Sodom and Gomorrah

The IDF Bombs the Gaza Strip
Amidst the relentless chaos that engulfed the war-torn landscape of the Gaza strip, a frail figure cowered in the shadows of a dilapidated building. His name was Youssef, a ten-year-old boy whose innocent eyes had witnessed more horrors than any soul should endure. The thunderous rumble of distant airstrikes echoed through the night, a haunting symphony of destruction that filled his heart with fear.
Youssef's trembling body sought solace within the narrow confines of a decaying room, its cracked walls offering a meager shield against the merciless onslaught from above. The air was heavy with smoke, its acrid scent invading his senses, choking him with every breath. Desperation clenched his tiny fists, his knuckles pale against the darkened bruises of a life lived in constant peril.
As the building quivered under the force of each explosion, Youssef's heart pounded in synchrony with the violent tempest outside. His youthful imagination envisioned the world beyond his sanctuary reduced to rubble, his neighbors fleeing in a frenzied dance of survival. Through the cracks in the walls, he caught glimpses of the flickering flames that licked the heavens, a macabre ballet of destruction.
Fear clutched at Youssef's chest, constricting his breath and stifling his voice. He pressed his trembling body against the cold stone floor, seeking refuge in the darkness. His wide eyes darted about, searching for some semblance of hope amidst the merciless chaos. His mind conjured images of a brighter future, a land where laughter replaced the cries of anguish and the echoes of gunfire were but a distant memory.
Whispers of prayers slipped from Youssef's lips, an offering to whatever divine power may listen. He closed his eyes tightly, hoping to find solace within the depths of his own mind. Memories of laughter-filled evenings with his family played like fragile film reels, temporarily shielding him from the horror outside. The familiar scent of his mother's cooking, the warmth of his father's embrace—these fragments of a life once lived provided a flicker of hope amidst the encroaching darkness.
But even in the sanctity of his hiding place, Youssef could not escape the deafening symphony of destruction. Each deafening explosion shattered the remnants of his fragile innocence, leaving behind fragments of despair that pierced his tender soul. The nights seemed eternal, their blackened canvas an unyielding reminder of the world's indifference.

Israeli Campaign Results

Operation Sacred Thunder culminated in the Gaza Strip bearing the harrowing scars of extensive Israeli aerial bombings, leaving no corner untouched by the relentless onslaught. Critical infrastructure, encompassing roads, buildings, and residences, lay in ruins as a result of the widespread devastation. Tragically, the relentless pursuit of objectives by Israel came at a significant cost, with numerous civilian lives lost amid the chaos.
Streets that once bustled with activity now lay desolate, marred by the aftermath of the Israeli airstrikes that pounded the region without respite. The intricate network of roads, once vital for transportation and the flow of goods, now resembled a nightmarish labyrinth of debris and impassable obstacles. What was once a lifeline for commerce and mobility now stands as a haunting testament to the destructive power unleashed. Buildings, representing the rich cultural heritage of the Gaza Strip, were reduced to mere fragments of their former grandeur. The architectural marvels that adorned the skyline now lay in ruins, shattered by the unyielding assault. This destruction not only devastates the physical landscape but also erodes the collective identity and historical narrative of the region. The residential areas of Gaza bore the brunt of the bombings, turning homes into scenes of unimaginable devastation. Once peaceful havens and symbols of familial bonds, these residences now lie in ruins, leaving families grappling with the anguish of displacement. The civilian casualties incurred during Operation Sacred Thunder bear witness to the profound human cost exacted by this relentless pursuit of objectives.
However, the results did show some success. Mossad reported 4 weeks into the campaign that they had killed Marwan Issa, leader of the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades. Soon, officials from Palestine and Gaza reported the same, remembering Marwan Issa as a hero. News of Marwan Issa's purported death rippled through the Palestinian population, evoking a cascade of contrasting emotions. Due to his death in the campaign, in the annals of Palestinian struggle, his name became synonymous with unyielding determination. To many Palestinians, Marwan Issa personified a life steeped in the fight for Palestinian rights and self-determination.
After the bombing campaign began, Hezbollah responded against the Israeli forces with their own coordinated missile response using Iranian supplied missiles. Even though Israel had increased their surface to air defenses along their country, the missiles saw relative success. Most notably, a swarm of Fateh 360 and Fajr-5 missiles, a volume that had not been seen before in a simultaneous strike, saw the successful destruction of many valuable sensors at the Mount Avital SIGINT Base the deaths of 33 Israeli servicemen. Although a follow up barrage was attempted against Israeli airbases, these strikes were less effective. Only stray rockets and missiles passed through Israeli air defenses, with only 2 deaths and 5 injuries encompassing the rest of the strikes.
Summary:
Israel: 35 dead
Hamas: ~200 dead according to Israeli sources, ~50 dead according to Palestine sources
Civillians: ~30 dead according to Israeli sources, ~250 dead according to Palestine sources, ~170 dead according to international monitors

International Response

The international community has responded to the widespread destruction with large-scale condemnation, denouncing the Israeli bombings in the strongest terms. Numerous nations, human rights organizations, and global leaders have expressed outrage at the disproportionate use of force and the resulting civilian casualties. Calls for accountability, independent investigations, and immediate humanitarian assistance have resounded across the globe, underscoring the urgent need for a comprehensive response to address the crisis.
The following countries released an official response:
Saudi Arabia:
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia condemns the recent wave of Israeli airstrikes that have targeted the Gaza Strip. We express our deep concern and solidarity with the Palestinian people, who have endured immense suffering and tragic loss of life as a result of these relentless attacks. The destruction of vital infrastructure, including roads, buildings, and residential areas, exacerbates the already dire humanitarian crisis and hampers any prospects for stability and progress in the region.
It is crucial for the international community to take a resolute stance against these blatant violations of international law and to call for an immediate cessation of hostilities. We urge all parties involved to engage in meaningful dialogue and to pursue a peaceful resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The cycle of violence and the suffering endured by innocent civilians must be brought to an end.

We stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people, who have endured unimaginable suffering and loss as a result of these relentless and disproportionate attacks. Jordan remains deeply concerned about the grave humanitarian situation and the escalating violence, and we call for an immediate cessation of hostilities to prevent further loss of innocent lives.
As a neighbor and a country deeply invested in regional stability, Jordan will continue its unwavering support for the Palestinian cause. We reaffirm our commitment to a two-state solution, with an independent and viable Palestinian state based on the pre-1967 borders, and with East Jerusalem as its capital. Jordan calls upon the international community to intensify its efforts to end the cycle of violence and to create an environment conducive to peace negotiations, based on international legitimacy and the relevant UN resolutions.

2023.06.07 04:30 Newboymom2023 Is my marriage worth saving?

Hello moms, I need your help/guidance. I have been with my husband for almost 8 years and married just over a year and am at a standstill.
We have a 4m old son together. I, unfortunately, lost my high paying remote job a couple weeks before our wedding date last year. I thought I’d be able to find work again quick bc I have my MBA but I got pregnant a few weeks after we got married and my first trimester was a nightmare to say the least so I haven’t worked since April 2022.
A few job opportunities fell through last minute for me so I didn’t work the entire time I was pregnant. My husband was never pleased with this, though I tried my best to keep up with all the household duties in return.
My husband works remotely as a software engineer and makes around $135k and we live in a rural part of AL, so you’d think finances wouldn’t really be a struggle for us. Technically it’s not, but I think a part of him felt used or taken for granted because I never found work even though I tried and have always been thankful and appreciative of him.
To make matters worse, the first few months our son was born he was not supportive. He barely helped me with our son. He said it wasn’t his responsibility and I think he felt detached bc if my son wasn’t sleeping or nursing he was crying. Which of course is typical of a newborn but my husband failed to really understand that. I would beg him to feed our son or hang out with him and he just wouldn’t.
Only recently we started going to couples counseling and he agreed he would start watching our son for 1 hour a day. He hasn’t done this consistently but at least does it maybe 4-5 times a week. The problem is once his hour is over he doesn’t think he has any more responsibilities with our son.
Today, my mother-in-law watched our son for a few hours and it was the first time since my son was born that my husband and I got alone time. That almost didn’t happen tho bc his friend is in town visiting and he wanted to hang with him instead. Priorities right? He did end up taking me out to a bar and grill type place for a drink and appetizer, which was nice I suppose. But after we picked up our son, he went to dinner and hung out with his friend, and he’s still doing that right now as I’ve tried for the last 2 hours to get our son to sleep.
Normally, I’m fine with him hanging with a friend, but it’s just frustrating living with someone who is supposed to be your spouse but chooses to hardly ever be around you. I understand him working til 4:30ish every weekday but after that he rarely spends time with us. I just don’t know if this is normal. It feels lonely honestly. All my family lives on the west coast so I’m really here alone just for him. I understand we are under the same roof everyday which can be tedious, but to be fair, his office is downstairs and I’m upstairs all day so there is a little bit of separation.
Even if we work on our relationship though, I can’t make my husband want to spend more time with me or our son. I just don’t know what to do. As a SAHM I feel stuck and don’t know if anything will actually ever change. I also don’t know if it’s normal for a spouse/new dad to be this way. Any help, advice or suggestions are welcomed. Thank you!

Weekly Rivian Responds + Roundup: A Subreddit Blackout? Plus moving mirrors, counting battery cells, and a question about 'Roundup' [6/6/2023]
What is up Rivets!?
This week, I'm going to switch the order around on our regular thread because I'm feeling spicy. I'm also going to change how we do the questions and answers formatting for you. You know what... scroll to the bottom because I got a question for you instead of the Roundup! Can you handle it? Can you even believe such dramatic changes are happening to you?! Listen. I said I was feeling spicy. But how are you feeling. Let us know! We can just say hi sometimes.

Subreddit Updates

  • Earlier this week we pinned a poll asking you if Rivian should participate in the Reddit blackout to show support for 3rd party apps that use Reddit's API - specifically Apollo. As mods, we think it's important to ask the community about what should do in cases like this rather than decide on our own. Truthfully, the mod team is just as split as your vote right now and I think one of us shares the opinion of just about each of your comments. So let's hear it for democracy! The poll is open for the next ~24hrs and we'll do what you want.
  • I got a few DMs recently about what our relationship is with "Rivian Official" after I posted a PR response on the fire recently. The deal is that we talk to Rivian - from Customer Experience to Comms to Engineering - all the time. We text. They're great. We sometimes get information shortly before the rest of you so we can prepare content. Other times we get it at the same time as all of you, but we get an alert. Rarely, PR arms us with information if there's ambiguity about something. This kind of stuff, including Rivian Responds, adds value to the community directly and it's symbiotic. We do not get free stuff, have any "insider" information, or have any intention to create a business out of this subreddit - meaning that there's no merch, exclusive events, or anything like that. (I'm actually extremely opposed to having that relationship with any brand) If you all ever have questions about this stuff, we're happy to answer your questions.

Weekly Rivian Responds

To get your questions answered, comment below within 48hrs of this post going up.
Please remember that Rivian is a publicly traded company, so you may not get the detail you want about upcoming product, feature, or software timelines. Of course always ask what's most important, but for more detailed answers, try to ask questions about vehicle capability, choices already made (eg, design), or about the company in general.
Q: Are there plans to have the side view mirrors tilt down when shifting the car into reverse? My last 3 cars all had this and it's very helpful for street parking A: Yep, we're working on this! And as a reminder, when you shift your Rivian into reverse today, a series of cameras feed into the Center Display to assist as you back up. From there, you can toggle between a 360-degree Bird’s Eye View or the Front and Rear camera views. You can also manually adjust your side mirrors in the “Access and security” menu if desired.
Q: When are the revamped phone charging pads coming out? Will retrofits be covered? A: In a recent interview with Marques Brownlee on his WVFRM Podcast, RJ mentioned that we’d be updating the phone charging mats in R1 vehicles. That’s all the info we have for now, but we’ll share more details as they come.
Q: How many battery cells are in the max pack? Since Rivian has already told us the cell count in the large pack (7776) I see no good reason to keep the cell count in the max pack a secret. A: The 7,776 battery cell figure was shared prior to launching the R1T and R1S. Rather than an official spec, it was intended to be a fun fact about the vehicles (the 7,777th cell powering the flashlight in the driver-side door). But as we continue to develop our battery architecture, it’s possible that the size, shape, and number of internal components will change. Rather than track these design updates in granular detail, we’ll continue to share our battery packs' overall range capacities to help customers decide which option is right for them.
Q: Is Rivian looking at the possibility of offering the powered tonneau as a retrofit (at a cost) for those that took delivery of a manual tonneau due to the timing of the powered tonneau being removed from the configurator? A: We do not currently have plans to offer a paid upgrade for R1T owners who took delivery of a vehicle without a powered tonneau cover.
Q: How much longer will RAN chargers be free? Last we heard, those were supposed to cost something by the end of ~April, but they're still free A: You can expect to see pricing roll out at Rivian Adventure Network charging sites in the coming months.
"Wow CarterGee," you might be saying, "that table is so. neat. I can't believe that you haven't shared the Rivian Responds as a table before now! It's just so much better." And, if you are saying that, my response is simply, "IKR!?"

Roundup

Alright. You made it. Here you are are the bottom of the post where we usually share the most popular posts over the past week. But this section is time consuming and I'm not sure if you actually like it or not. This week, I've decided against doing it because Diablo IV came out and there's a lot happening at work. But my question is...
Should we continue doing these in the future? Or should we do something else in this slot? You tell us. We're all ears.

2023.06.07 03:52 boomerandzapper Comprehensive List of "Small Family Run Hidden Gems" in Vancouver

Background

I've been compiling a list of "hidden gems" in the back of my mind for a while now. There are many "hidden gems" in Vancouver. To cover them all would be a whole book. To make things easier for a post I created a stricter set of criteria.

The purpose of this post is not only to share but also to uncover more "small family run hidden gems". There are many places that almost make it which I added to the Honorable Mentions section.

What constitutes a small family run hidden gem?

A tiny to small restaurant that's family and serves amazing food or beverages. These are the places that people who've been recommend to out of town guests. You go "wow" when you first discover the place.

The hidden part is covered by collecting data on posts/comments to verify the "hidden aspect". Although just because a business has low Reddit exposure, many of these places are well known in specific communities.

Detailed Criteria:

  1. Small: Under ~10 tables, Ideally ~2 tables. Exceptions for Food Court Stalls
  2. Family Run: Owner or a family member is always present. Bonus for family-run businesses with no employees.
  3. Hidden (On Reddit): Under 40 comments where a post is worth 5 comments.
  4. Gem: Arguably the best place to get a certain dish/cuisine in Metro Vancouver

Check out the more awesomer update video here.

Key New Features

  • New Paragon - The Magus Perfectus! (loves casting spells) Some of you know we teased this last year, but we needed more time to balance the art and design required to make this extra special, so we are very pleased to get this live! Wizard Monkey’s Paragon is designed to be a higher level strategic Paragon with powerful ability usage similar to the Doomship.
    • The core of the Magus is a toggle to and from a Draining Beam which deals very small single target damage but absorbs graveyard mana as it damages and destroys Bloons
    • While toggled off from the Drain Beam, Magus attacks with a powerful Arcane Spike that deals massive damage to MOABs and revives Bloons it slays, while a Dark Phoenix circles overhead attacking with Firebomb breath and a radial fireball attack
    • Phoenix Explosion Ability: can be cast to consume the Paragon’s entire graveyard to set all Bloons on screen on fire for 30 seconds and summon one Zombie ZOMG for every 9000 graveyard mana consumed
    • Arcane Metamorphosis Ability: can be used to consume all graveyard mana and transform the Magus briefly into an alternate form which decimates everything with a flame cascade attack; Metamorphosis lasts longer the more mana it consumes
    • Magus was designed for armchair play so it will fill and consume graveyard mana on its own, but our goal was to create more actively controlled Paragon for those who will enjoy microing between Beam on and off and choosing which awesome Ability to unleash and when

New Awesome

  • Happy Birthday BTD6 - On June 14th, BTD6 will celebrate 5 years of monkeytastic fun and strategy! We hope you’ll join us for the main menu changes, skinned Collection event, special Questing, and general celebration. Thank you for five amazing years and we’re looking forward to all the years ahead!
  • New Hero Skin - Jiangshi Sauda, a fun new cross-cultural look for Sauda brainstormed by the art team, mixing inspirations from a favorite show and Chinese folklore
  • New Map - Erosion
    • Community designed advanced map Erosion by “I am not an artist” ~ u/TheWiseTroll
    • TheWiseTroll’s original concept proposed land and water but when thinking about map colors and the little stories we think of behind each map, the concept of the polar bear walking back with the shrinking ice was too compelling to do anything else
  • New Quests
    • Birthday Party - Pop the Party Bloon as many times as you can before it escapes
    • Blade Sauda Nowhere - Try out Sauda and learn some of her skills
    • Patch’s Cheap Chimps Challenge - Beat Logs with as little cash spent as you can
    • Striken Bad - Defeat the BAD on round 100 using First Strike. The spelling hurts us, too, you’re not the only one - but we had to do it!
  • Least Cash and Least Tier Boss Events
    • We’ve heard feedback about and have been wanting to shake up Boss rules, so here we go!
    • Applying new victory conditions to Boss Events completely changes the focus while still needing the damage output and type to handle each Boss
    • Time still matters, as the secondary time score will break any ties
  • New Trophy Store Items
    • Heroes: Geraldo Pack Mule pet, Quincy Spec Ops Drop In placement
    • Monkeys: Sweden Village Flag
    • Bloons: Party Hat Bloons
    • Game & UI: Vortex Avatar, Sunset Samba 64 Mix music track, Quincy Arrows banner
    • Nexus.gg Creator Supporter Avatar - show your support for Content Creators by using the Creator Support button on the Settings screen and purchasing any IAP
  • Limited Time only {trophy items if there’s a seasonal}
  • 5 Year Anniversary Avatar, 5 Year Anniversary Banner
  • New CT Team Store items
    • Base Props: Treasure Chest
    • Icons: Overclock icon, Archmage Staff icon
    • Frames: Bloon From The Dead frame, Mage Hat frame
  • New Slider
    • Everybody loves sliders, right?
    • After lots of discussion on the team and a fair few player requests, we’ve added a ‘Projectile and Effects Scaling’ accessibility option to main menu Settings
    • This is primarily for accessibility to minimize the size and brightness of projectiles and effects, especially when the screen is crowded with Monkeys and Bloons
    • This is not directly a performance improvement feature, so please do not expect the game to run noticeably better - just noticeably cleaner
    • We tried not to remove key game state indicators but this is ultimately in player control - if you adjust the slider and effects and projectiles make it harder to play the game, please reset the slider until the game is working the way you want
    • It’s also really fun for silly screengrabs, so please post your favorites!

News - Anniversary Giveaways!

We would also like to formally announce that we will be doing a week of giveaways on our Twitter starting next Monday NZT to celebrate the BTD6 5 year anniversary! 5 winners will be picked randomly each day for 5 days to win an awesome prize from our merch store. This will be exclusive to Twitter so make sure to follow us here to be involved!

  • PC: Added a ‘ Monkey Special 2’ hotkey (for towers like Beast Handler, Necromancers & Ace Paragon). By default the Special 1 & Special 2 hotkeys have been assigned to PageUp & PageDown and ordered so that PageUp triggers the upper specialty, and PageDown triggers the lower one
  • Arcade: Resolved a strange one pixel wide black line that can appear above some text characters on the arcade font
  • Chromebook: Game no longer crashes if attempting to login via webview
  • Chromebook: Resolved an issue with bluetooth mice being unable to scroll

Balance Changes

Boomerang Monkey
This part has to be included along with the Lych Soul rework with Paragons which is finally making it in this update after necessary delays. As Boomerang Paragon’s knockback hits so many times so quickly, we need to make it more reasonable when applied to targets that aren’t immediately destroyed.
  • Boomerang Paragon knockback amount reduced 3 > 1
Bomb Shooter
MOAB Assassin fills a useful role of a pure long cooldown ‘single target assassination’ in the game, but when compared to something like First Strike it feels a little lacking that it is unable to carry damage through MOAB Layers
  • x4x MOAB Assassin ability passes through MOAB layers
  • x4x MOAB Assassin ability explosion centers around the impact target
Tack Shooter
Blade Shooter has always struggled to find much value without MK or as a step to Maelstrom, so to give it build value on its own we feel like this should be a part of the base value on the upgrade.
  • x3x Blade Shooter pierce increased from 6 > 8
Ice Monkey
Lowest tiers of ice monkey are far too effective for their cost against ceramics, with this scaling well all the way to round 100, we feel like ice duration against ceramics needs to be reduced to counter this but for now this reduction will only apply until T3.
  • 000 Ice Monkey freeze duration reduced by 50% on ceramics
  • All T3 Ice Monkeys increase freeze duration on ceramics from 50 > 100%
  • 203 Icicles crosspath now gains camo prio
Glue Gunner
The Bloon Solver’s rework has been very popular, however, we’d like to have a better lead up into the new mechanics by introducing this earlier at the tier 4 now.
  • 4xx Bloon Dissolver now creates puddles on track leading up to Bloon Solver, puddles deal 1 damage, all other stats and crosspath benefits are the same.
Sniper Monkey
This will allow Cripple MOAB to take out regular MOAB layers in one shot until round 100; for such a slow attacking single target tower we feel this will help top path flex, even if mostly for show.
  • 5xx Cripple MOAB damage increased from 80 > 280
Monkey Buccaneer
Reworking Grape Shot crosspathing as it gains far too much crosspath value by T2 but then is lacking in purpose at higher tiers, double shot will only work as one extra grape however Destroyer will now apply its full attack rate buff to the grapes and Flagship will equip aspects of Grape Shot on the mini planes.
  • 210 Grape Shot total projectiles reduced from 10 -> 6
  • 310 Destroyer also reduced from 10 > 6 grapes
  • 310 Destroyer now increases grape attack rate twice as much, matching increase to the regular attack
  • 410 Aircraft Carrier planes radial attack now fires an arc of grapes instead of darts
  • 410 Aircraft Carrier planes radial Emission Angle 360 > 90
  • 410 Aircraft Carrier planes radial projectile count 8 > 6
  • 410 Aircraft Carrier plane grape projectile speed 100 > 200
  • 420 Aircraft Carrier planes radial projectile art: dart > hot grape
  • 420 Aircraft Carrier planes radial damage type Sharp > Fire
  • 400 Aircraft Carrier plane radials damage 1 > 2
  • 4xx Aircraft Carrier missiles now follow tower target priority
Monkey Ace
Spectre is shifting a little of the ceramic bonus around into basic all damage at the cost of reduced pierce, which should make up for lack of single target damage while also making the pierce crosspath more necessary when being used for cleanup focus.
  • xx4 Spectre Dart damage increased 3 > 4
  • xx4 Spectre Dart ceramic bonus reduced 2 > 1
  • xx4 Spectre Dart pierce reduced 15 > 10
  • xx4 Spectre Bomb damage increased 2 > 3
  • xx4 Spectre Bomb ceramic bonus reduced 4 > 3
  • xx4 Spectre Bomb pierce reduced 30 > 20
  • 302 Razor Rotors will now benefit from the faster firing crosspath
  • 3xx Razor Rotors cooldown rate 0.75 > 0.5
  • x4x Support Chinook price reduced from $10500 > 9500
  • x4x Support Chinook supply crate cash generated reduced $1650 > 1,550
  • x4x Support Chinook max uses per round reduced from 3 > 2
  • xx4 & xx5 Comanche mini's follow the target priority set on their main Heli
  • xx5 Comanche Commander missile damage 7 > 15
  • xx5 Comanche Commander missile moab bonus 5 > 8
  • xx5 Comanche Commander mini's missile dmg 5 > 15
  • xx5 Comanche Commander mini's missile moab bonus 5 > 8
  • 4xx The Big One stun duration non-MOABs increased from 0.5s > 0.75
  • 5xx The Biggest One stun duration MOAB increased from 0.3s > 0.5
  • 5xx The Biggest One stun duration BFB increased from 0.2s > 0.3
  • 5xx The Biggest One stun duration DDT increased from 0.2s > 0.3
  • x3x Heavy Shells attack delay reduced from 1.08 > 0.81
  • x4x Artillery Battery attack rate buff reduced from ¼ to ⅓ (remains the same rate: 0.27)
  • xx3 Signal flare cost increased $700 > 800
  • xx4 Shattering Shells price reduced from $11,000 > 10900
  • xx3 Signal Flare decamo radius reduced from 50 > 43
  • 103 Signal Flare decamo pierce increased by 5 > 10
  • xx4 Shattering Shells burn DoT deals moab bonus +5
Super Monkey
As Engineer sentries do this already, newly spawned Mini Avatars from temples will now by default match the target priority of the temple.
  • 4xx Sun Temple's Magic Sacrifice mini Sun Avatars when placed will spawn with the same target prio as their parent tower
Ninja Monkey
We’re changing the Ninja Monkey Paragon’s focus as a fighter against camo, as we feel like a greater strength and tactical value against camo will be the full reveal of all camos rather than all camo removal.
  • Ascended Shadow now grants global camo detection for all your towers
  • Ascended Shadow no longer strips camo from Bloons with every attack
  • Ascended Shadow main attack gains bonus to camo +6
  • Ascended Shadow Flash Bomb Explosion gains bonus to camo +20
  • Ascended Shadow Flash Bomb Shurikens gains bonus to camo +16
  • Ascended Shadow Sticky Bomb Projectile gains bonus to camo +3200
  • Ascended Shadow Sticky Bomb Explosion gains bonus to camo +700
  • Ascended Shadow now deals 25% damage to all non-Boss MOABs that spawn
Alchemist
Alchemist Transforming Tonic is in a weird spot with the transformation unable to attack through walls when the base alchemist is able to. Also with this, including a QoL fix for the T5 that currently prevents transformed towers from functioning with target priority.
  • x4x Transforming Tonic transformed alchemist can now ignore line of sight
  • x5x Total Transformation towers transformed by the x5x will keep their Target Priority
  • 3xx Druid of the Storm’s Tornado no longer targets MOAB-class Bloons
  • x3x Druid of the Jungle no longer pops Lead Bloons without 130 crosspath
  • x3x Jungle Vine follows target prio of tower instead of strong
  • x3x Jungle Vine defaults tower to strong priority when purchased
  • 205 Avatar of Wrath base Heart of Thunder attack rate increased 2.3s > 1.15
Spike Factory
We’ve heard the feedback, so Spiked Mines get a tweak to get more mines exploding but with less pierce on each, to overall increase quality of life in more frequent use but less wasted pierce. This will help out with some of the problems it has scaling into late game super ceramics.
  • 4xx Spiked Mines pierce increased from 12 > 20
  • 4xx Spiked Mines explosion pierce reduced from 40 > 30
  • 4xx Spiked Mines DoT damage increased from 1 > 10
  • 5xx Super Mines explosion pierce remains at 60
  • 5xx Super Mines DoT damage increased from 1000 > 2500
Monkey Village
A minor QoL for cheap Monkeyopolis creation, we included a small base amount of cash production to the generation formula.
  • xx5 Monkeyopolis income formula now includes a base +$2500 minimum
Engineer
The 005 crosspath fix in the last update left XXXL Trap slower than previously even if crosspathed to 205, so we are increasing that base 005 slightly to match up the 205 crosspath again so that it isn’t any slower than before.
  • xx5 XXXL Trap attack cooldown reduced from 5.8s > 4.6
Beast Handler
As our newest tower to be added to BTD6, we went over feedback for every path and made a large number of adjustments addressing a variety of points.
  • 3xx Great White thrash rate benefits from speed buffs
  • 3xx Great White damage increased 4 > 8
  • 3xx Great White max extra damage from merge increased 8 > 16
  • 3xx Great White max attack rate buff from merge increased 0.20634 > 0.38
  • 3xx Great White extra thrash knockback duration from merge increased 0.1 > 0.2
  • 4xx Orca thrash damage increased 20 > 30
  • 4xx Orca thrash max extra damage from merge increased 40 > 60
  • 4xx Orca max attack rate buff from merge increased 0.37829 > 0.38
  • 4xx Orca thrash radius increased 20 > 24
  • 5xx Megalodon price reduced from 55,000 > 45,000
  • 5xx Megalodon thrash radius increased 30 > 36
  • 5xx & x5x Beast handler paths are now overclockable
  • x4x and x5x Max Merge Bonus: Overkill damage on MOABs now distributes to the children of that target
  • xx1 Gyrfalcon path deals +1 damage to Regrows to stop accidental infinite regrow farms
  • xx3 Golden Eagle pierce increased 12 > 15
  • xx3 Golden Eagle pierce range increased 24 > 30
  • xx3 Golden Eagle ceramic pierce penalty reduced from +3 > 1
  • xx3 Golden Eagle Max Merge Bonus: Now grabs MOABs with pierce penalty +14
Gwendolin
Removing the stacking aspect of Gwendolin’s burn damage over time, but increasing the damage as she levels up so that it actually scales up in power now.
  • Lv6 Gwendonlin main attack DoT stack count 0 > 1
  • Lv6 Gwendonlin main attack DoT damage increased from 1 > 2
  • Lv9 Gwendonlin main attack DoT damage increased from 1 > 4
  • Lv10 Gwendonlin main attack DoT damage now increases by 1 per additional level
Adora
While they are complicated individuals, Adora can now fully appreciate the sacrifice of the newest Monkeys in the struggle against the Bloons.
  • Lv7 Blood Sacrifice can now be used on Beast Handlers
Admiral Brickell
We aren’t happy with strats that start looking like exploits with frequent sell-replace loops.
  • Upon Selling Brickell - all of her placed Mines are now expired along with her as well
  • If no Bloons are left unpopped on screen aside from ones Psi is currently holding & destroying, these Bloons will be destroyed after a maximum of 3 seconds
  • Lv3 Psychic Blast pierce increased from 50 > 200
  • Lv7 Psychic Blast pierce increased from 100 > 200
Event / Boss / Relic / Knowledge
  • All Lych Soul variations can now be stunned/slowed by paragon tier upgrades
Looking Forward
Five months of 2023 done and dusted, which feels to us like it has zoomed by, perhaps because the Auckland office where the BTD6 team is based has only just reopened after the severe flooding at the end of January. All of Update 36 and the majority of Update 37 were completed while again working from home, but we’re very excited to have the office repairs done, the flood wall almost finished, and the ability to work shoulder to shoulder again on fun new things for the monkeyverse! Here’s the latest gaze into the crystal ball:
  • Update 38 Key Content
    • New Boss - Phayze: another all new Boss concept and play style, not giving any other hints apart from the name itself
    • Summer fun: a new Brickell hero skin and a waterpark map aimed toward Intermediate to help keep northern hemisphere summer cool
    • Quests: continuing to build new quest system features and adding a few new Quests to the list
  • Update 39 Key Content
    • Map Editor: under construction since last year with internal systems testing happening during 38.0 development, we are super excited to put map creation tools in player hands on as many platforms as possible when it goes live
    • New Hero - Spirit Walker: another unique design that we’re sandboxing already to make sure it has as much balance and art iteration as possible, again no hints other than the name
  • Update 40 Key Content
    • New Paragon - Monkey Sub: we’ve tagged sub as the next Paragon, so tell the Navarch to stop hoarding all of the Portable Lakes!
    • Stretch Goals - Boss Rush Team Event and CT Themes: lots of unknowns 3 updates out but we have strong plans for a new Team event and new parameters for Contested Territory that will make each CT more dynamic - anything that we don’t get done by end of year will have strong groundwork for next year
  • Console
    • Getting closer to submission on Xbox and PlayStation but this has been slow going. We’ve added another programmer and are working even more closely with platform partners to get through our last issues and launch as soon as possible, but that’s likely at least another 2 months. Switch is still a consideration depending on response to Xbox and PlayStation, as it will require additional bespoke development.
