2023.05.31 00:04 Just_a_Rose Maining healer in solo queue has me pulling hair out

I’m not mad about anything in this post anymore, just sort of numb to it. But I want to share my experience and what I’ve observed in the last year or two I’ve been playing this game.
1) Having three people all rush you because you’re the healer has become part of the game and there’s no point to be upset about it. What boggles my mind is when I finally die and the camera swaps, I see three of my teammates literally standing there just watching. I don’t get it. I know healers aren’t completely defenseless but that doesn’t mean I can fend off three monkey-brain claw abusing weirdos by myself. How am I supposed to heal you if I’m constantly stuck in an un-sub able combo, guys? I would say maybe I had done something to upset my team but it’s such a consistent occurrence I’m wondering if I’m just getting matched with people who lost their thumbs in the ninja war.
2) Speaking of, when having to sit and wait for ten minutes just to load into a lobby, one of two things will happen;
The enemy team is a 4 stack. Someone on my team will be an utter coward and quit out leaving us to suffer 3v4 for five minutes, assuming even more teammates don’t leave. I will sit and silently cry as I await an actual penalty for leaving matches, knowing full well Soleil doesn’t care.
For some reason, the two stack on my team both picked attack and will refuse to switch off. We will be minus one role for the entire match, I’ll be forced to play healer despite it being the only role I ever play and am wanting variety, I’ll struggle to heal the team as they refuse to group up, and we will lose. The two stack will then add me to a chat and call me slurs for not healing them, then block me and continue this cycle indefinitely. I will silently cry and wait for Soleil to do something about the over saturated attack role but know full well they don’t care.
3) Anyways do you think randos realize it’s a team game? Genuinely looking at how my teammates tend to play, I’m starting to wonder if that part isn’t getting through. It’s better to stay together and cooperate, that’s like the entire point of the game, but constantly having to watch my team throw themselves at the enemy, die, and repeat has taken its toll. I can’t outheal four ultimates, I can’t use sage rebirth as often as you seem to think I can, and no, my healing doesn’t suck. You just won’t get tf over here so I can give it to you.
4) Cheaters.
That’s it. That’s the complaint.
5) I can’t help but feel like the majority of defense players don’t realize they aren’t immortal, just because they don’t stagger when they pop their little demon slash or armor or whatever. Please keep an eye on your health and stop running from your healer to chase the attack on the enemy team who is blatantly baiting you away from me.
That’s all I’ve got. Queue the skill issue comments, I don’t care.

Hello Reddit! I'm starting a fresh D&D 5e campaign and looking for dedicated players to join the adventure. I love introducing players to DnD and am primarily interested in new players committed to a long-term engagement. Some slight experience won't exclude you but longtime players and veterans would not be a fit for the pace and vibe I am running. We will be doing one of the Starter Set modules as a way to introduce people to the 5e system.
The game itself is set to begin in the next 2 weeks, with sessions taking place at 8pm EST on Fridays, occurring weekly and lasting each session lasting between 4-5 hours. 2023.05.30 23:46 nikki_D_NY Would getting a new appraisal in order to request PMI removal cause my property taxes to go up?

I am getting conflicting information from the appraiser and the mortgage company. I want to request early PMI removal because I updated my house with many renovations.
I believe this coupled with the current market rate would meet all PMI removal requirements and would drop my monthly payment by $200.
However,, the appraiser is telling me that the new appraised value will not be shared with the town. It's only used for this PMI removal request.
Someone in the escrow department states that it will. Has anyone had any experience with this that could help me understand what actually will happen?
My fear is that the PMI might not even be removed if the assessment is too low, but then my property taxes would go up even more. Thanks in advance for any insight.

The Rays took an exciting series against the Dodgers after recharging during a weird mid-series rest day against the Blue Jays. It's still super weird to watch the offense carry while the bullpen struggles, but with guys coming back it should be f--, wait, Fairbanks is hurt again. 39-17

3 Braves -1 3-4 last week and we started this week off with a loss against the Oakland "Triple A's" which is not good Bob. On the VERY brightside, we saw Soroka pitch from an MLB mound for the first time in almost 3 years. He pitched well and we need him to perform as we are absolutely depleted by injuries. Riley is starting to come to life. We hold a 4 game lead on the scond place MARLINS. Our division doesn't want to take advantage of our recent struggles, that's fine by me. 32-22

5 Orioles -1 A few weeks ago, I said if the Orioles can go at least .500 in May then they are for real. They wrapped up a winning month yesterday and have three games to go. They continue to play well, even though they lost the series against the Rangers, and seem to play better away from Camden Yards. They did, however, send Grayson Rodriguez down this week to AAA. He just has some stuff to figure out. He was getting crushed in his past few starts, and it was the right move to make. This solidifies the fact they need a frontline starter if they are going to make a serious push to get to and make noise in the post-season. 34-20
6 Astros 0 Jose Abreu finally hit a home run. All is right with the world. Unless the world's name is Lance McCullers Jr., who had another discomforting setback and we have no idea when we will see him this year. I still blame his hair. Anyway, our other Jose hit a grand slam at MMP this weekend. Where have we heard that before? 31-22
7 Yankees 0 It certainly would’ve been nice to take 2/3 from Baltimore, but it’s very hard to be mad at the Yankees’ month of May. Since May 1, the Yankees are 18-9, a huge turnaround from a .500 April. As we enter the dog days of summer, the top of the AL East is tightening up, but the Yankees don’t face either of the teams ahead of them again until July. The Yankees have to keep playing at this pace, and a Stanton (and maybe Rodon??) return could seriously help that. 33-23
8 D-Backs +1 The Diamondbacks had a decent week, barely missing out on a sweep of the Phillies before dropping a series to the Red Sox. The offense gets on base but has been allergic to driving in RISP, and the starting rotation continues to be a merry-go-round, as none of the rookie pitchers on the team seem to be able to string together several good starts in a row without getting blown up once or twice. 31-23
9 Blue Jays +1 The Jays' first series win since May 14th pulled us out of a bad-vibes tailspin the likes of which this fanbase hasn't seen since, well, the last time everybody freaked out over a losing streak. The usual suspects' continued confounding slow starts (Manoah, Kirk, Varsho, etc) have dropped us 10 games back from TB, last place in the best division in baseball. And YET, hope springs. Berrios (3 or fewer ER in 8 of his last 9 starts) finally appears to be pitching to the level expected of him when he was signed, and is pumping out quality starts along with Gausman and Bassitt. Kikuchi has slipped as Kikuchi does but has been very solid for a #5. We don't have the depth to send Manoah down for some needed alone time, but he's pushing it. Vladdy has been scuffling, Springer is heating up, and Bichette is an MVP candidate. With a little bit of lucky regression to the mean with abysmal RISP numbers, this team is just a few turns away from being very good. As long as we don't have to play too many games vs AL East teams. That should be fine. 28-26

11 Mariners +4 Just what the doctor ordered - 6-1 in the homestand so far. Some momentum is just what this team needs before two big series with teams they're chasing for playoff spots. If the M's can handle business over the next week, they'll be right back in the thick of it. Bryce Miller, do your thing. 12 Red Sox -1 Scoring four runs total while getting swept by the Angels isn't a great look. This team is in many ways aggresively mediocre, always making sure that every win streak is followed up by an equally painful gut-punch. This is mainly due to the reliance on the offense to carry us to victory (2-17 when scoring <=3 runs), when the bats get cold, you're safe to turn off the game. Whitlock returning from injury and Bello/Sale both stepping up their game in May (2.74/2.42 ERA respectively) are good steps towards this team becoming Actually Good™ though. We'll see what June brings us... 28-25
13 Brewers -1 Taking two of three from the Astros was nice. Barely avoiding a sweep from the Giants was not so sweet. Milwaukee has some issues with hitting in "close" situations. The Brewers either lose after having multiple opportunities to tie it up, or get absolutely blown out. 28-25
14 Angels 0 Did I travel out of state and all the way to Anaheim just to watch the team get swept by the Marlins? Perhaps. Was that objectively worse than what the Reds voter is going through? It's impossible to say. 29-26
15 Mets -2 The Mets, who I proclaimed to be "good at baseball" last week, ended up dropping 2 of 3 against the Cubs and doing the same against the Rockies. I just don't know what to believe anymore. The only thing I know for sure is that Francisco Alvarez has got that fucking dawg in him, he's GOATed, he's him, he's on fleek, he's poggers, he's a proper legend, he's got an .885 OPS, he's a top bloke, he's got swag, he's fresh, he's Gen Z Mike Piazza, he's lit, he's making me feel old because he was born after 9/11, he's Francisco Alvarez. 27-27
16 Gigantes +4 The Giants won yesterday, but strictly talking about last week, they went 5- 2 on an extremely acceptable road trip without any off days. Defeating two competent teams like the Twins and Brewers should feel good. On both losses, they gave up 7 runs, on every win they gave up 3, 1, or 0 runs. So, they threw two games out of 7 – that’s allowed. In the bad news department, Joc, Joey, and Thairo all not expected back until June 6th. I think we’re okay with more Bailey Patrick and this also means another look at unpredictable slugger David Villar. Slater continues covering for Joc. Let’s look a the numbers: 13th in MLB in Run Diff (+6 spots), 12th in RS / G (+6), 15th in RA / G (+2), 23rd in Bullpen ERA (+5). All of that is good and especially the bullpen is promising recently. The Giants continue at home vs the Pirates and wrap the homestand with 3 against our orange and black brothers in Baltimore. 28-26
17 Pirates -1 Would I have been happy to learn on Opening Day that the Pirates would be around .500 at the end of May? Yes. But if you told me they got there after starting 20-8 I would be pretty disappointed. Here's hoping the pendulum swings the other way in June. 26-27
18 Marlins +3 Yet another appearance of sweepy, the meme that was promised. After a rough series against the rox, we sweep the angels to settle into the third NL wild card spot. Our starting pitching is coming along after a bumpy start to several of our starters. Eury perez is gonna be a stud, just wanna remind yall. Also, shout out to Jorge Soler, who has been crushing baseballs the last week and change. In other miami sports related news, boston is the first city ever to lose two game 7s at home in both the NHL and NBA playoffs in the same year. Go Heat and go Panthers! 28-26
19 Phillies -2 After losing 2 to the Diamondbacks and going down 5-0 in the 3rd game, the Phillies season looked as bleak as it could in late May while only being 4 games under .500. However, the team rallied and Trea Turner tied it in the 9th before going onto win it in 10. Then, they went down to Atlanta and split a 4 game series. It could've gone far worse. The Phillies most pressing need is now seemingly a 5th starter who isn't a guaranteed loss, as this week they trotted out Dylan Covey, who hadn't started a game since 2019. He got 2 outs and gave up 7 runs. He took the spot of Bailey Falter who, after a surprisingly productive 2022, started the season 0-7. Falter is the far better option, but Dave Dombrowski will likely be looking to upgrade until Andrew Painter can finally return. This week, the NL East road trip continues with their first 3 games against the Mets and 3 in Washington. Here's hoping June Schwarber shows up again this year. 25-28
20 Padres -1 My Dad tells me it’s ok that the Dad’s lost 2 / 3 to NY; the Dodgers lost 2 / 3 to the Rays! The Pads aren’t in the same stratosphere as the Dodgers right now, though. 5 games under .500, 10th in the NL standings, 3 games out of the last wildcard slot. Of course there’s quite a bit of time to change it, there’s plenty of time to go on a run, or a slow and steady good month to gain ground. With every day that passes however, that goal becomes a bit harder to reach; I don’t think Pads fans were hoping for a wildcard spot by the end of this season, but that’s the position the team has to get to before even thinking of catching LA. The Padres are 4th in the NL West, and only a half game out of last. 24-29
21 Cardinals -3 2-2 @ CIN; 1-2 @ CLE; 0-1 v KCR; another struggle week for the Cards. The fandom's been a bit kneejerk because of two good weeks before this. Their mistake. I'll say it a third time, the Cards playing at or beyond their expected level doesn't change the rotten FO. Yeah Marmol's pretty close to being fired, that's not a fix when the problem is John Mozeliak. 24-32
22 Tigers +2 The most fun part of this past week has been watching the resurgence of Akil Baddoo. His energy is infectious and adds an exciting dimension to the lineup. As we head into the last few days of May, Baddoo has sported a .302/.405/.508 slash and a 155 wRC+ this month. Although he's still been hitting mostly in the 6 hole, if this keeps up he might find himself much higher in the order real soon. This week: 2 more vs. TEX and 3 at CWS. 25-27
23 Guardians 0 The Guardians won a series this week. I would like to see them win some games by more than one run, but it's clear this season, we have to take what we get. 24-29
24 Cubs -2 Another terrible week for the Cubs, as a promising series win against the Mets was followed up by an embarrassing sweep against the Reds. The starting rotation was terrible, and the bullpen was somehow worse. Fans have had enough of David Ross, and Jed Hoyer is starting to come under pressure. Barring a dramatic turnaround, the Cubs will be sellers for the 3rd trade deadline in a row 23-30
25 Reds +1 Okay guys, I’m here to be calm this week. I have been told by my wife’s attorney, Tom, that they are “aware” of my online activity regarding our impending divorce, so today let’s have a nice, calm, relaxing, perfectly fine, good old fashioned talk about Reds baseball. The Reds are just sorta middling. They’re not great but they’re not horrible. Unlike my marriage. Our starting pitching has resgressed, just like my marriage, and it’s very unfortunate to see, because our bullpen has been quite reliable unlike my wife. We still can’t hit home runs for some reason, but overall unlike my marriage the Reds on the upturn. There, are you happy Tom? I didn’t mention all the crap that’s been going on lately. I didn’t mention how I had to leave the Motel 6 I was at because I found a used needle in the bathroom, and by the way Tom, I know that you’re trying to use that as evidence that I can’t take care of my kids. I don’t even know who’s needle it was, it was like wedged behind the toilet. Believe me, I only found it because I dropped my phone while using the toilet. It wasn’t even visible, I had to like get on my hands and knees and crawl behind the toilet to grab my phone. So it puts the image in my head of some heroin addict or whatever sitting behind a toilet at a Motel 6 trying to get high, which honestly that just seems like an even worse situation than the one i’m in. 2023.05.30 23:22 RVAIsTheGreatest Jalen Hood-Schifino---a testament that numbers don't always tell the full story

Jalen Hood Schifino notably had his struggles with efficiency in his first and only season at Indiana as a 5 star prospect. It is something that has given some folks pause and has seen his draft stock remain static in the 18-25 range. In a draft this competitive and deep it's hard to conclude he should be taken higher, but I think the likelihood he extracts more value than his draft slot is high.
JHS measured in at around 6'5.5 or so in shoes at the combine with a 6'10 wingspan. He has great size for a lead guard and he uses that size efficiently to see over the top of the defense and be able to make a plethora of quite high difficulty and precise passes. He has excellent timing as a passer in the PnR. To be a legit lead guard in the NBA, you have to be able to run an effective PnR; Hood-Schifino is one of the very best lead guards in this class in that department, and he's also a very smooth and comfortable off the dribble shooter in the PnR as well. He also has solid accuracy as a passer and knows how to use screens in a manipulative way to create good looks for himself and his big. He finds cutters, and he can drive and kick effectively. He's a crisp all-around lead guard.
JHS isn't the most dynamic athlete but he's got solid quickness overall. I feel his athleticism has been undersold a bit. His first step is OK---not elite, nor is he a snail. He's good at changing speeds and can drive with both hands. His handle isn't elite but it's absolutely projectable and starting from a decent place. He can snake his way to his spots on the floor even if he doesn't have a tremendous amount of true shake with the ball.
Think continuing to improve his handle would take him to another level as a player as well as improving as a perimeter shooter, where he's streaky. His form isn't broken from 3; some small correctable issues to address, but his midrange abilities and FT number indicates he's not devoid of touch, and I think this is a part of his game that should only continue to get better from here.
When you add his defensive upside, Jalen Hood Schifino is a prospect that checks a ton of boxes, yet seems to get a little less fanfare than most other top 20-25 prospects. I think people are missing the boat on him and judging him a little too harshly on his stats in Indiana rather than taking into account the tools he brings to the table and projectable upside and pretty damn high ceiling he has as a talent. NETINT Quadra vs. NVIDIA T4 – Benchmarking Hardware Encoding Performance
This article is the second in a series about benchmarking hardware encoding performance. In the first article available, I delineated a procedure for testing hardware encoders. Specifically, I recommended this three-step procedure:
  1. Identify the most critical quality and throughput-related options for the encoder.
  2. Test across a range of configurations from high quality/low throughput to low quality/high throughput to identify the operating point that delivers the optimum blend of quality and throughput for your application.
  3. Compute quality, cost per stream, and watts per stream at the operating point to compare against other technologies.
After laying out this procedure, I applied it to the NETINT Quadra Video Processing Unit (VPU) to find the optimum operating point and the associated quality, cost per stream, and watts per stream. In this article, we perform the same analysis on the NVIDIA T4 GPU-based encoder.
About The NVIDIA T4
The NVIDIA T4 is powered by NVIDIA Turing Tensor Cores and draws 70 watts in operation. Pricing varies by the reseller, with $2,299 around the median price, which puts it slightly higher than the $1,500 quoted for the NETINT Quadra T1 VPU in the previous article.
In creating the command line for the NVIDIA encodes, I checked multiple NVIDIA documents, including a document entitled Video Benchmark Assumptions, this blog post entitled Turing H.264 Video Encoding Speed and Quality, and a document entitled Using FFmpeg with NVIDIA GPU Hardware Acceleration that requires a login. I readily admit that I am not an expert on NVIDIA encoding, but the point of this exercise is not absolute quality as much as the range of quality and throughput that all hardware enables. You should check these documents yourself and create your own version of the optimized command string.
While there are many configuration options that impact quality and throughput, we focused our attention on two, lookahead and presets. As discussed in the previous article, the lookahead buffer allows the encoder to look at frames ahead of the frame being encoded, so it knows what is coming and can make more intelligent decisions. This improves encoding quality, particularly at and around scene changes, and it can improve bitrate efficiency. But lookahead adds latency equal to the lookahead duration, and it can decrease throughput.
Note that while the NVIDIA documentation recommends a look-ahead buffer of twenty frames, I use 15 in my tests because, at 20, the hardware decoder kept crashing. I tested a 20-frame lookahead using software decoding, and the quality differential between 15 and 20 was inconsequential, so this shouldn’t impact the comparative results.
I also tested using various NVIDIA presets, which, like all encoding presets, trade-off quality vs. throughput. To measure quality, I computed the VMAF harmonic mean and low-frame scores, the latter a measure of transient quality. For throughput, I tested the number of simultaneous 1080p30 files the hardware could process at 30 fps. I divided the stream count into price and watts/hour to determine cost/stream and watts/stream.
As you can see in Table 1, I tested with a lookahead value of 15 for selected presets 1-9, and then with a 0 lookahead for preset 9. Line two shows the closest x264 equivalent score for perspective.
In terms of operating point for comparing to Quadra, I choose the lookahead 15/preset 4 configurations, which yielded twice the throughput of preset 2 with only a minor reduction in VMAF Harmonic mean. We will consider low-frame scores in the final comparisons.
In general, the presets worked as they should, with higher quality and lower throughput at the left end, and the reverse at the right end, though LA15/P4 performance was an anomaly since it produced lower quality and higher throughput than LA15/P6. In addition, dropping the lookahead buffer did not produce the performance increase that we saw with Quadra, though it also did not produce a significant quality decrease.

Table 2 shows the T4’s HEVC results. Though quality was again near the medium x265 preset with several combinations, throughput was very modest at 3 or 4 streams at that quality level. For HEVC, LA15/P4 stands out as the optimal configuration, with four times or better throughput than other combinations with higher-quality output.
In terms of expected preset behavior, LA15/P4 was again quite the anomaly, producing the highest throughput in the test suite with slightly lower quality than LA15/P6, which should deliver lower quality. Again, switching from LA 15 to LA 0 produced neither the expected spike in throughput nor a drop in quality, as we saw with the Quadra for both HEVC and H.264.

Quadra vs. T4
Now that we have identified the operating points for Quadra and the T4, let us compare quality, throughput, CAPEX, and OPEX. You see the data for H.264 in Table 3.
Here, the stream count was the same, so Quadra’s advantage in cost per stream and watts per stream related to its lower cost and more efficient operation. At their respective operating points, the Quadra’s VMAF harmonic mean quality was slightly higher, with a more significant advantage in the low-frame score, a predictor of transient quality problems.

Table 4 shows the same comparison for HEVC. Here, Quadra output 75% more streams than the T4, which increases the cost per stream and watts per stream advantages. VMAF harmonic means scores were again very similar, though the T4’s low frame score was substantially lower.

Figure 5 illustrates the low-frames and low-frame differential between the two files. It is the result plot from the Moscow State University Video Quality Measurement Tool (VQMT), which displays the VMAF score, frame-by-frame, over the entire duration of the two video files analyzed, with Quadra in red and the T4 in green. The top window shows the VMAF comparison for the entire two files, while the bottom window is a close-up of the highlighted region of the top window, right around the most significant downward spike at frame 1590.

As you can see in the bottom window in Figure 5, the low-frame region extends for 2-3 frames, which might be borderline noticeable by a discerning viewer. Figure 6 shows a close-up of the lowest quality frame, Quadra on the left, T4 on the right, and the dramatic difference in VMAF score, 87.95 to 57, is certainly warranted. Not surprisingly, PSNR and SSIM measurements confirmed these low frames.

It is useful to track low frames because if they extend beyond 2-3 frames, they become noticeable to viewers and can degrade viewer's quality of experience. Mathematically, in a two-minute test file, the impact of even 10 – 15 terrible frames on the overall score is negligible. That is why it is always useful to visualize the metric scores with a tool like VQMT rather than simply relying on a single score.
Summing Up
Overall, you should consider the procedure discussed in this and the previous article as the most important takeaway from these two articles. I am not an expert in encoding with NVIDIA hardware, and the results from a single or even a limited number of files can be idiosyncratic.
Do your own research, test your own files, and draw your own conclusions. As stated in the previous article, do not be impressed by quality scores without knowing the throughput, and expect that impressive throughput numbers may be accompanied by a significant drop in quality.
Whenever you test any hardware encoder, identify the most important quality/throughput configuration options, test over the relevant range, and choose the operating point that delivers the best combination of quality and throughput. This will give the best chance to achieve a meaningful apple vs. apples comparison between different hardware encoders that incorporates quality, cost per stream, and watts per stream.

I want to start by saying that I am not someone who got the lightphone 2 and thinks it has been an easy, painless experience towards making my life better. it has not.
I have been critical of the phone in the past- I even stopped using it for a while (made a goodbye post), and then came back while still complaining.
I also feel like I have been quite negative towards the phone here- so I should explain why I am still using it 🙃

I have only met few doctors who were into FIRE. Most doctors are very bad with their money and live payslip to payslip even as consultants.
I also struggle to understand people who take really long to cct. Intercalate, gap years, clinical fellow jobs, changing specialty, doing md/phd, fellowships. I spoke to senior reg today and he came back after doing phd. He said it didn't add much value to getting consultant job in his specialty and phd project not anything groundbreaking. Is he interested in academia not particularly. There are lots of doctors like that. Just do phd for the sake of doin it. That 3 years of lost earning is actually huge when you think about power of compunding.
We already take really long to start earning decent money compared to other professions and delaying it even further for no monetery reason makes no sense to me.
I get it people have different priorities in life. Thats why i wanted to check if anyone shares similar mindset to me.

Apologies if this is something that should be obvious.
I feel like I've seen this explained in a video, but now haven't had any luck trying to search for this.
Here is the example, in phrase view, let's say I have a cutoff effect in the first (set low) and last steps (set high). I want the cutoff to smoothly go from the first step to the last step without needing to iterate every step in-between manually.
Is there a way for me to highlight the values, and tell it to fill in the spaces between the first and last step? I know there is a similar functionality with notes, but I'm talking FX here.

Here is the description for notes that I've found:
"Quickly place interpolated notes across multiple steps of a phrase
Place a note on the first and last steps of a phrase. Then press [SHIFT] + [OPTION] + [OPTION] to quickly select a column. Lastly, press [SHIFT] + [EDIT] to fill all the steps with notes. If, for example, the first and last steps have notes that are 16 semitones apart, then each step will have a different semitone within that range. 2023.05.30 22:59 SaltyLittleLich Salvaging is the worst profit in game right now for 2 big reasons

Alright, so I want to start off by saying that I was an early adopter for salvaging. Got my vulture during IAE, loved going out and finding armor plates in asteroid fields. It wasn't great profit by any means, but you'd average around 200k aUEC/hr with travel and selling, solo. For perspective, with just second tier bunkers (60k) or first tier 890 jump contracts (45k), you could easily make 2x the profit (and even more from 890 jump contracts if you just toss all the bodies in the hangar on the platform and send it up, same in engineering, leave the other bodies. Only adds maybe 5 minutes, but it's another 20k or so aUEC).
It was relatively safe and relaxing, which made the lower profits worthwhile.
Then they reduced plate pinging down to 2km, a range that you'd already detect what a resource node is just by being in range without even using your scanner. Ships don't have enough scrap for it to be worthwhile, an entire ares is only about 2scu of scrap out of the 23scu I normally put in my vulture, so you can end up with 20 minutes of searching for less than 10% of your cargo.

Salvage missions came next and people quickly realized that actual salvaging was by far the least profitable way of doing them. They'd take a ship with cargo like a cutlass black, take the contract, take any cargo, move to the next one, and now they want to change that by reducing cargo value, not to make salvaging profitable, but rather to make cargo stealing less profitable.

So the solutions I see are this.

  1. Remove the contract fee. These missions are all in UEE space. The city doesn't make people pay them to remove garbage, they pay to have it removed. It's ridiculous having some contracts cost the player as much as 150k aUEC for barely more than that in salvage when you could make significantly more just running easy bunkers in the same time, or a lot more just mining.
  2. Increase the amount salvaged from ships as well as the salvage sell value. Right now mining is easier, cheaper to do since there's no fees, safer because you can just scan for asteroids further from stations, significantly more profitable, and it's not like personal salvage contracts which can even have retaliator bombers plus waves of fighters including hurricanes defending it, which no one is taking out in a vulture.
  3. As a bonus, here's a third. We need scan range for spawned armor plates restored. It makes absolutely no sense that you can ping a small rock in the middle of other rocks at 15km or more away, but a massive armor plate the size of your ship, or a damn 890 jump won't ping until you're literally right beside it.

This isn't a themepark game, it's a sandbox game, and removing sandbox content and forcing salvage contracts is the opposite of what should be happening.
It makes no sense that the UEE wants you to clean up wrecked ships, they want you to pay to do it, and there's no reward offered once you do, the contracts even tell you to just abandon them with no penalty if you're done.

First, for better understanding, here is my UNFINISHED weight loss story.
For further understanding: I'm male, 21 years old, about 1.80 cm.
For a long period of time, to be precise, from September to November and from February till now, I am water fasting 2 - 3 days of a week, the rest of the week I'm doing OMAD Keto.
My week looks like that: Monday till Wednesday I'm fasting, Thursday (Sometimes also late Wednesday) till Sunday I'm eating one meal, which consists of 3–4 eggs made into an omelette, with toppings like mozzarella cheese, goat cheese, butter cheese and some cherry tomatoes, after that meal I eat like 150 - 300gr of berries. Overall it's about 1500 - 1900 calories, it depends on how cheesy I feel like. I forgot to mention that I also use coconut oil for the pan, and I also eat a teaspoon of it. Sometimes I also have guacamole as a dip, I used to use mayo, but I stopped it, because it's not very healthy I guess. What I forgot to mention was, that I also drink lots of zero calories/sugars drinks, like coke zero, zero ice tea etc. What do you think about that?
Firstly, please rate that diet. Any recommendations or suggestions for improvement? Is that like fine?
That diet does work, because in September I weighted 125 kg (my record, unfortunately) I'm now sitting at about 86 kg. So I almost lost 40 kg. My friends, my family, my work colleagues and ofc all the girls which now find me attractive noticed that. Me too. I really slimmed down, I wear L instead of XL now. Most of my clothes are now over-oversized for me. I can clearly see some of my veins on the hands. Overall I look more defined, like my face, you know? It's not that chubby anymore.
BUT I still do not see my abs, I still have some fat around my belly, around my man boobs, around the waist. I'm frustrated, I now want it more than ever. My weight loss also kinda slowed down when I started getting under 90 kg. So I started to pick up the gym again, but tbh I'm questioning the effectiveness and usefulness of that. I'm doing cardio 2x a week, mostly on a treadmill, with 5.5 km/h and an incline of 5 %, and 2x a week I'm doing weight training push-pull split. For legs, I will need to add a third day where I go to the gym. My question is, is weight training effective while I do my diet and being in a constant calorie deficiency. Like, muscles need sufficient nutrients to grow, regrow and repair, right? Also, for my problem with the slow-down of my weight loss, should I just add another 1 or 2 days of fasting to the week. What do you think?

I will try to cover close to everything related to Asura, and go over two builds, one that has frantic and stressful (but fun) gameplay, and another one for those who just want a more "chill" way of playing. Note that yellow is about 20 to 30% more performant than blue.

THE BASICS

Before we begin, a quick run about some important concepts.
- Skill cancel: Dodging at the right time, makes it so skills and attacks are still effective, while cutting short the animation. This is not only true for Asura, but for her is specially effective. For her 3rd skill, it can be cut almost instantly, 2nd skill as well, and 1st skill as soon as you see the arms appear you can dodge. For the hold attack, as soon as she makes contact with the ground it can also be canceled. For the skills look at when flamefetter state starts, and you can cancel immediately.

- Flamefetter state: It's activated upon the use of any skill. For default lasts for 4 seconds and meanwhile it provides extra 20% fire damage. Asura's whole kit and gameplay should revolve around this. Since Flamefetter is a long name, I'll just say FF from now on.
- Do bursts of damage when FF is up if possible: hold attacks, skills and ultimate (yours).
- Functor key: For Asura it's quite important to get if you plan on playing her long-term. It changes the gameplay style and adds a ton of damage.
- When in groups or multiple bosses, use the "target" button to focus on one objective, this way the hold attack fire resistance shred's value will be more consistent.

Use the recommended ones, that provide fire damage and energy regeneration. Prometeus flame and Jörmingandr
For the enchant effects, focus on "Fire blessing -> Fire damage %, and "Gladiator" -> Normal atk damage % (because hold attacks count as normal). Other effects like crit rate is quite good, and others like -energy cost, index mod multiplier, damage against XYZ enemies are fine too. But focus on the two mentioned plus/or crit (low priority).

TEAM:
We don't have units that synergize too well with Asura right now, or more specifically good established fire teams. When asked vets on discord, I've been answered, and seen replied to other players that using S Poseidon and Tsukuyomi is the way to go, just for the raw dps (and poseidon's CC).

BOTS:
The most recommended bot is Me-Yow, providing extra energy when doing perfect dodges. Works well with both builds, but specially recommended for the yellow build.

When playing with the blue build, depending how you go about it, energy may overflow (be capped). Then other bots like Mitir, to extend modified mode for 3 seconds or Minininja to increase teammates crit rate are also good options.

As for the chips, do whatever you feel more comfortable with tbh. I'm using "Tactical Assembly" to have my companions near to focus better targets and make better use of team's CC. And "Countermeasure" to extend poseidon's freeze for 1 sec. Comfortable ones.
"Battlefield Dominance" and "Marginal Benefit" are also very good if you prefer raw dps rather than usability.

YELLOW HOLD SPAM BUILD

The objective of the build:
  1. Abuse hold attack as much as possible
  2. Abuse skill cancels for skills and attacks
  3. Don't use hold attack if FF is not activated
How does the build work?
  • With the third yellow code, when doing a hold attack, half of remaining energy is consumed to do more damage.
  • With jörmungandr sigils, each time energy is used, there is a chance at recovering 35% of energy.
  • With functor key, first hold after entering FF restores 12 energy and deals extra dmg. Each hold attack in FF reduces enemy fire resistance.
Tips:
  • Practice a bit the skill cancels. At first go for 2 holds per FF, after some time go for 3.
  • If when playing, if you try to do a 3rd hold, and you're seeing that it won't connect the hit inside FF, dodge cancel, to save up energy.
The gameplay for this build, if played this way is super effective, but also super frantic. If you don't want to bother about constant holds and constant animation cancels, go for the blue build.

BLUE EXTENDED FLAMEFETTER

Objective of the build:
  1. Overlap all the skills possible
  2. Use 3 skills at once, extend three times, rinse and repeat.
  3. Bursts and ultimate after casting 3 skills.
How does the build work?
  • With the blue codes, we get 45% extra fire damage during FF instead of 20%.
    • The duration of FF is extended by 4 seconds, based on remaining time (so if there were 2 seconds of FF left, the new one will last 6 seconds).
      • The extra fire damage bonus will stack, based on each skill duration (so hypotetically, if all 3 skills were casted simultaneously, the FF would provide 135% extra fire damage lasting 12 seconds).
Tips:
  • Hold & Spam as in the yellow build is still the most effective way to go BUT not for a wide margin. From my testing, playing "normally" vs Hold&Spam is about 16% less effective (making more use of functor's "punch to accumulate hold damage"). So you can play more "normally" and calmly with this build and still perform well.
  • For the three skills cooldowns to be consistent, do all 3 at the same time with cancels, preferably starting with skill 1. Then extend three times with skills 1 & 3 & 1, and after that all three skills will be off cooldown to be cast at the same time again.
  • At the beginning of the match, wait a bit to gather energy before using the skills.

For a while I have tried to figure out how to use kOS to optimize deploy angle for propeller and ducted fan blades for max thrust. I have failed google a solution. There can be several reasons for this:
  1. I suck at googling
  2. No-one else has this problem/desire
  3. The solution is so obvious, that no-one thought it worth asking or sharing.
  4. No-one came up with a solution they thought worth sharing yet.
In the strange case it might be 4., I'd like to share what I came up with.
First of all I noticed that the PAW (Part Action Window) for a prop/blade contains a "lift" field, if you turn it on in alt-F12 debug window under Physics->Aero->Display Aero Data in Action Menus.
This value can be read by kOS, even if the PAW is closed.
I usually use counter-rotating props/fans to avoid spin. I use a KAL-1000 controller to adjust the blade deployment angle. Instead of having the same curve for both props in the counter-rotating setup, I adjusted one of them to have 0.1 to 0.5 degrees higher angle than the other on the entire curve. kOS can control the KAL by setting the "play position" field, but it only seems to work reliably when the PAW for the KAL is open.
In a kOS script, I loop over the blades for each propeller, and read the lift value. If the one with higher pitch angle has more lift, I increase the angle for both, and decrease it if the one with lower angle has more lift.
My initial use has been for a lifting stage for an Eve return ship I'm building. Therefore my tests have been with a vertical setup. As far as I can tell, I don't get much higher in the atmosphere than with manual control, since the deciding factor seems to be when the air gets too thin. However, I do get there a lot faster than I could so far with manual control with the KAL locked to throttle.
I believe it should work at least as well for prop-planes, but have yet to try it out myself (instead I'm typing this post, like a chump).
I didn't do a lot of optimizations (and when I do, it will be in a more structured form, which depend on other files). The prototype uses enum_lib.ks from KSLib to sort collections, but no other dependencies. One of the obvious optimizations is how often the adjustments should be made and how big they should be. I recommend adjusting the time on the KAL-1000 sequence to be one second per degree, so you can follow the angle easily.
It might also be possible to skip the KAL entirely, or you can link it to main throttle and adjust the throttle through kOS if you want it more indirect.
Without further ado, here is the example script I came up with:

2023.05.30 22:51 Visinvictus No Standard Rotation = Control Deck Meta

UW Control decks are already oppressive in the current standard meta, but as each set adds new/more/better control cards it's going to become even more difficult for other deck archetypes to play effectively against control. It doesn't matter how powerful red/green/black cards are if you can't resolve them or if they just get deleted the moment they enter the battlefield. It's not fun being completely unable to resolve a spell. If you do manage get more than 2 creatures on the battlefield you can be 100% guaranteed it's because the opponent is about to drop a Farewell or Sunfall which literally have no counter play in standard (except more counter spells). Hexproof, indestructible, protection are all useless against exile so good luck with that - whoever thought it would be a good idea to make a board wipe exile creatures (not to mention artifacts, enchantments and graveyards) is an idiot. Maybe if you are lucky the board wipe will be a Depopulate so death triggers and indestructible actually do something, and you might even get to draw a card.
It's fucking ridiculous that I can play 20+ turns of just watching my opponent counter or blow up literally every card I play because I didn't kill them by turn 4 and they didn't bother to put an actual win con in their deck. Everything they have (except the board wipes) operates at instant speed, so counter play options are limited and good luck waiting for them to tap out to get anything done. I guess it's important that I need to sit around and not play magic while I wait for them to find another Jace to slowly mill me out like a true champion of Magic.
At least rotation might have taken Farewell or some of the counter spells out of play, Memory Deluge, Wandering Emperor, or Silver Scrutiny, to help reduce the absolute oppressiveness, card filtering and card advantage of this deck. Most decks have no way to gain card advantage against this deck once it is online because they will have a hand full of counter spells and removal. Even a turn 2 Thalia feels like pissing in the wind by delaying them from a board wipe by just one turn. If you do beat them somehow, it was probably because they got mana screwed and died before they could stabilize or the grind was so an hour long grudge match and you just want to delete the fucking Arena client by the end of the game.
I have tried playing UW control myself but to be brutally honest the games are just painfully slow and boring. I would rather concede than play out a mirror match because I value my own sanity. I don't enjoy it at all, I doubt I am alone here, and if the mythic tier meta keeps trending in this direction after the recent bans I may just have to quit playing standard entirely.

I know this is a very basic issue, but I can't find a solution.
I have a spreadsheet with 7500 records in column A (starting from A2) and 7500 records in column B (starting from B2). Column A is named "Process" and column B is named "Description". The content of cells in column B corresponds to the description of the process in the left column A. In column C, I have the "ID" field, which is a unique ID for each process.
In columns D and E, I have 1250 records each, from D2 to D1250 and from E2 to E1250. Column D is named "Process" and column E is named "Description". The 1200 processes in column D are included in the 7500 processes listed in column A, but they are not aligned. In column E, I have the updated descriptions for these 1200 records, and I want to update column B (Description) with the updated values from column E, corresponding to each process.
I tried using VLOOKUP but it didn't work. Any help?

No real value to add to the sub, just wanna rant to a bunch of people that know that feel bro.
Double faulting over and over on my usually very reliable second serve. No pace or depth on most of my shots as I was playing tentatively but then the timing was all over the place when I tried to loosen up. Volleys were lazy.
It felt like I just couldn't put full effort into anything. I wanted to have the active feet for every shot, the proper coiling and uncoiling, bending the knees for those low shots and on serves, active and on my toes at the net but the body was just not responding and the mind kept fogging over. Every ball would end up feeling like lead on my strings, or like a rubber ball off a handheld trampoline.
I got back into tennis after a bit of a break a couple years ago and for the last 18 months it's felt like a constant upward trajectory every time I stepped on the court - not as in I'm always better 100% of the time than the last time I played, but I would at least keep trying to do the right things more often each time and develop better and better habits. Today out of nowhere it all just seemed to abandon me. First time I think I've ever come away from it having not enjoyed myself.
Ah well, the highs wouldn't be highs without the lows.
