2023.06.07 20:16 Count-My-Wins Why do I get detected right after opening the safe in Cayo Perico?

I get detected seconds after opening the safe in Cayo Perico every time. My entire mini-map just turns blue and then the alarm sounds. I’ve tried killing and not killing various guards but nothing seems to work. Has anyone else experienced this? Does anyone know a fix?
Mods, I am NOT asking you. I’m asking the rest of the community. Please don’t lock my post after you think you answered my question this time. Now I have to make another post because you provided an incorrect and indirect answer and then locked my post. Please mods don’t waste more of my time.

2023.06.07 20:03 Dimitar231 Am I the only one that finds expeditions to be way less enticing than actual updates?

I dont mind the expeditions and I am aware that a shit ton of work goes into them but I've been really trying to pick up the game again and its been extremely hard for me since I basically got everything on one save that you could get. Im not one to start multiple saves because I get demotivated pretty quickly when doing stuff ive already done or similar. Every time there is a new update, I'll hop on and get the new things. It only takes about a couple of hours tho and then its back into boredom. But it is still way better than nothing. The expeditions tho, mostly only add cosmetics that i dont care about, with the exception of the alien frigate or the utopia speeder and a couple others. But that really isnt a good tradeoff for an update, at least imo. especially since if you miss those expeditions, you are locked out of the content completely. I was really excited at todays update, especially after seeing all the theories and speculations that it could be an AI overhaul or more in depth updates or overhauls to the living ships, or perhaps a living freighter, serving as the "mind" of your fleet. Safe to say, when I saw "Expedition" in the update, I immediatly lost all interest. Now a lot of people will probably bash me for this but I do wanna hear other peoples opinions on it. I just really dislike expeditions and think that they should not be released as standalone updates but rather *along* with an actual content update. I wouldnt mind if updates take longer in between because of that but it would at least help me find my passion for that game again. Tell me what you think.

2023.06.07 19:58 supadrops Beware! Someone shoved a pieces of plastic in my charging port…

Beware! Someone shoved a pieces of plastic in my charging port…
So yesterday I had a fun adventure of charging my 2023 BMW I4 eDrive40.
A few weeks ago, I had an issue with the charging flap on the car not opening at all, so I had BMW service change the plastic hinges, everything works great now and it only took a day of not having my car, phew.
Well I charged my car last week, and yesterday I went to charge my car again at an Electrify America stations. The charging cable connector (not sure the official name) wouldn’t click when I connected it to my car. I tried a few times, even changed the charging station, still nothing. The connector was loose and wouldn’t start the charging session.
I started to check my car and the charging port, and found a piece of plastic inside. I didn’t have any tools in my car to take it out, so I had to call my friend to come and take it out.
My hypothesis: someone added this plastic piece while my car was parked outside my apartment building or when I went to the grocery store last week.
Now you are thinking, how would anyone be able to get into your charging port when your car is locked? Well, remember the charging flap issue, I was trying everything prior to going to BMW service and one option was the setting in the charging app called “unlock charging socket flap permanently” and because I am afraid of the charging flap breaking again, I have had this setting turned on this entire time, so anyone can access my charging port without my car being unlocked.
So beware, I don’t know why someone would even think of doing this to someone’s car. My only “conspiracy theory” is that with the fact that electric cars doesn’t require mechanical work as much as gasoline or diesel cars, there are people who are messing with people’s charging ports to make money for any mechanical shop that services electric cars.
I’ve turned off the setting now and hoping anyone reading this doesn’t experience this.

2023.06.07 19:58 Supdog69 Oven Door Lock Won't Disengage

A little back story. I flipped the breaker and unplugged the stove the other day to replace an element switch. After I was done, I plugged the oven back in and flipped the breaker back on. The oven has not been used since then. I noticed today that the light in the oven was on, and then I realized the door was not closed the whole way because the locking mechanism was engaged and is preventing the door from closing. It's a 20 year old Frigidaire if that makes any difference. I'm thinking about starting a cleaning cycle, then cancelling it to see if that resets the lock. If anyone has any other ideas, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance!

2023.06.07 19:57 w9jds GalaxyFrinder - Wormhole Mapper!

It's been a couple years since I shared about the mapper I created. A lot has improved, changed, and been added so hopefully this covers most of it. Here is the discord if you would like to join and give feedback, ask questions, and request features: Discord
GalaxyFinder is built on cloud scalable infrastructure and security.
No PHP, JQuery front ends, bootstrap, python, etc. Here is what is used for this system: - Firebase Realtime Database - Each layer has its own security read/write rules - Firebase Cloud Functions (~20) - Automating removing of old data - Dumping data into a datalake as it happens - Triggering data consistency across the database
Static data uses information from Anoik.is and SDE which is updated regularly so triglavian systems, stargates, and routing all work appropriately.

Automapper

Kill Tracker

Customization

I have created TONS of custom systems for this, and have open sourced a lot of the micro-services, backends, CI/CD tools and pipelines:
New Eden WebAPI (and Cloud Functions) - This is the backend authentication webapi that handles auth for the mapper (as well as cloud functions)
Node ESI Stackdriver - Custom ESI library I created for all my TS backends that also does all it's logging to GCP stackdriver
Firebase Action - Custom GitHub Action to automatically deploy static sites like GalaxyFinder and Account Management on commit
Setup Firebase - Custom GitHub Action for using firebase cli to automate deployments, emulation, testing, and more (improvement of firebase-action)
Firebase Trigger - Custom GitHub action used to update version numbers on deployments to trigger release notifications to users
Chingy Locations (Deprecated) - Somewhat outdated micro-service used to update player locations for the mapper (deprecated and replaced)
Capsuleer Locations - New location golang micro-service
Go ESI - Custom golang esi module I created and is used for kill tracking, aura discord bots, and more
Go ZKB - Custom golang zkb module I created to ingest redisq feed
Go EvePraisal - Custom golang evepraisal module I created to interact and apraise chunks of data (for getting things like full kill values of virtually fitted ships)
Aura Bot - Custom Aura Discord bot built to handle things like SRP, Kill tracking, etc. Built on top of go.esi, go.zkb, go.evepraisel, discordgo
Eve Routes - Rust micro-service that gets routes for EVE using a* algorithm to find the shortest, safest, less safe, custom routes

2023.06.07 19:56 TheSandersonSisters What would you do if your SS was this chaotic

Hi all, Im not sure where to start but I am really struggling.
So pertinent back info, my ss (9) is diagnosed with ADHD, ODD and OCD and is on Concerta plus therapy 2x/week which has shown a bit of improvement but not much. A lot for a little kid right? He has always been a handful, and tbh I never looked forward to him coming to our (my house actually) for his scheduled visits. Dont get me wrong, I actually loved this child (and I think I still do), but he has caused so much chaos that Im honestly feeling traumatized by him. Like I am repulsed when I see a picture of him at this point because the feeling of anxiety in my stomach just overwhelms me. I know it sounds bad, I love him but I dont like him. From epic meltdowns, aggressive violence towards other children (especially his brother), lying, stealing, his crazy energy that he can't seem to satiate. There is literally always a disaster with him lurking around the corner because he CAN NOT control any impulse he gets. He has gotten suspended multiple times, gotten kicked off the bus etc.
Anyways the most recent thing that happened was that in the middle of the night while everyone was sleeping (around 4-5 am), he woke up searching for candy as we have put a ban on it since he literally will not eat anything but candy, and he is visibly affected by all the sugar. So he went nuts looking for it- I mean every crevice of the house. He went into the basement (where he is not allowed), went into my partners cabinet that had a child safety device on it that is IN THE CEILING (we have barstools that he dragged) and went through his things. Now please try not to judge me, I didnt even know we had these but he had some gummy edibles (legal in my state) in this cabinet and SS stole them. And he ate them with his brother. So obviously chaos ensued and we had to get them to the hospital. CPS was called, they did a surprise check at the house and deemed it safe and stable. That it was an accident, it wasnt wreckless as SS stole it from a cabinet that had a safety device on it. At the hospital, the stepkids mom was there and basically told us that SS is just out of control- that she has fingerprint locks on her bedroom because he is such a cleptomaniac, and he was still able to find the backup key for it that was in the most conspicuous place and she cant trust him. He found a lighter and tried to light the shower curtain on fire in her house. I found a SAW IN HIS BED that he took from the basement workshop. We (especially his dad) keep an eye on him every second of every day but he finds ways (middle of the night, figures out how to get through safety devices, etc.). (Also fyi I now have a fingerprint doorknob on the basement door so that he literally CANT get down there, the backup key is in my office at work so he has absolutely no access).
One of the problems besides this whole mess is that I really don't like this kid anymore (I love him and want whats best for him but if I never had to see him again not one tear would be shed by me and Id be relieved). I know not everything is his fault due to his neurodivergence and age, but I just am at my wits end with him. I am so afraid that he is such a liability at my house, and I have so much anxiety whenever he is around (so every other of my precious weekends) trying to keep him out of trouble or thinking of whats coming next. Also, some people in my family dont want him at their house anymore because they are afraid of him stealing dangerous things (he finds those the most interesting) and being responsible or held accountable for it. It doesnt help that SKs mom is very high conflict and wouldnt hesitate to ruin my life if she had the chance. I have plans to take these kids with my family and bf for an extremely expensive disney trip for my parents 50th, and I am so worried they are going to ruin it. On the other side of the coin, I feel so damn guilty because these kids and their dad ADORE me. I never let on to them how I am feeling, and I never will. I just dont know what to do. I want to stay with their father because I love him and he treats me like gold- he is very aware of how upsetting the situation is and he himself is grieving in a way the life he thought he would have had with his children. I have brought up to my SO that the next time there is a big issue with his kid, they cant be at my house anymore. And the thing is, I know that will most likely end our relationship or at the very least traumatize his children as they will think I dont love them anymore when they are very attached to me. help

“It is beautiful, is it not,” Solk said in a chipper yet slightly, almost Infinitesble sad tone of voice. “I am not surprised you are not the first to have been awestruck beyond measure at the slightest sight of this.”
Solk walked closer to Kenneth, presenting the object that fully had Kenneth’s attention.
Of all the things Solk could have brought with him, a painting was the last thing he expected.
Even in the light of many candles, Kenneth could see the beautiful dark wood frame expertly carved with what appeared to be illustrations of, as far as Kenneth knew, blue flowers all interconnected by one stem.
However, it was not the dark wooden frame or the pattern carved into it nor the solid gold plack at the very bottom center of the painting that filled Kenneth with a burning rage.
NO.
It was the person in the painting.
A black-furred Aki with a white-tipped tail wielding a giant shield, not unlike those of the roman people during Julius caesars time, as she charged into battle.
In her other hand, she was wielding a long sword against what Kenneth recognized to be a black Nok with a spear who charged at her. Thrusting its weapon with all its might against her shield.
“Jasha,” Kenneth muttered so silently. He barely managed to stave off his primary instinct to strike the very illustration before him.
“Huh? Did you say something?” Solk asked.
Kenneth quickly snapped out of his trance and relaxed his body.” No, I said nothing.”
“Are you sure I could have sworn you said… well, never mind,” Solk said dismissively as he let the painting rest on one of the floor juices barrels. “So, are you interested?”
‘If you only knew,’ Kenneth thought as he restrained himself from acting like he normally would whenever he saw Jasha.
“It is quite something,” Kenneth said in a fake cheery tone of voice. “Just out of curiosity, what was the other item you thought I would be interested in?”
“Some of the slaves,” Solk said casually.
‘Remember, you just need the vinegar,’ Kenneth told himself, not wanting to ever be a slaver as he stared down the painting.
“Forget I said anything, and let's talk about the masterpiece here,” Kenneth said.
“It is one of my most prized possessions,” Solk said proudly with only the slightest hint of something else in his voice.
“Well, it’s just if it is so prized, why would you have brought it to trade with me?” Kenneth asked, unsure if he asked because he wanted to know or just looking for an excuse to get it out of his sight, even though he just wanted to get the vinegar and be done with everything.
Solk lowered his gaze slightly, letting out a sigh. “It is not an easy thing to trade, but to keep it in my family would be an insult to my brother once I eventually meet him again.”
“How so?” Kenneth asked.
“Do-does the words engraved on the gold plack confuse you?” Solk asked.
As Kenneth took a closer look for the first time, he noticed some engravings in the gold plack. They seemed like letters, but none Kenneth had truly ever seen nor in any way understood.
“Sorry, but I can’t read that,” Kenneth responded.
“Really,” Solk exclaimed slightly. “But you seem like a learned man, one who’s been taught like us royals.”
“I can read; I just can’t read your langue,” Kenneth clarified.
“My langue. Does that mean you speak another aside from this?” Solk questioned curiously.
“Yes,” Kenneth answered.
“I see. Well, the engraving reads as follows,” Solk said, clearing his throat. “Perfection gifted to me by the gods to be created by mortal hands so we may witness the closest thing to perfection Aki-kind will ever achieve. ”
“Well, the painting is undyingly beautiful and so life-like,” Kenneth complimented while adverting his eyes a little away from Jasha. “But I don’t see how the words would confuse me.”
“Really. It doesn’t strike you as odd that the gods would give my brother a vision of the past just so he could paint this thing,” Solk said, slightly spiteful.
Solk became a little quiet after that. The only thing Kenneth heard for a little while was his breathing. It was calm, but at times it would slightly get louder.
“The value of this painting is quite hard to measure,” Solk suddenly said. “ Not only is it more detailed than any other I know of, but the sentimental value is equally hard to measure.”
“In truth, I have had others who have offered vast sums of gold for it, but it always seemed too cheap to me.”
“Cheap,” Kenneth repeated. “I must admit I don’t quite follow you. If you think vast sums of gold are too cheap, then why would you trade with me? I only have some unique items and blue flowers.”
Solk looked at Kenneth for a short while silently before he started to chuckle.
“Did I say something funny?” Kenneth asked.
“No,” Solk answered, letting his chuckling naturally subside. “your words simply reminded me of something similar to what I said many summers ago.”
Kenneth raised an eyebrow.
“I apologize for asking this, but would you let an old man tell you a story of the past and why no gold would ever be enough for me to trade this painting?” Solk asked.
“Sure, just go ahead,” Kenneth responded, feeling strangely intrigued by what Solk had to say.
“As kids, my brother and I were always close to one another. We used to play from the moment Ki appeared in the sky to the moment he was going to trade places with Di,” Solk started as he looked at the painting slightly fondly.
“However, as we got older, I started to notice he’d space out more often, looking into nothingness with a dull expression. He’d look at trees, furniture, buildings, even just mud, and dirt,” Solk sighed.
“Sometimes he’d even just hold a stick or rock and drag them on the ground.”
“Even as a child, I had heard some rumors of what happened to those who were misshapen, and I was worried my brother might be as well. I did my best hiding it from my father, mother, and sister as well as the servants.”
“At times, some noticed it to some extent, but a few lies here and there about him being tired seemed to work just fine.”
Solk then lowered his head and said in a somber voice. “Being that young, I truly believed I could keep my brother safe forever, but eventually, while I was sleeping, he wandered out of his room and started to act like he always did.”
“Even now, I clearly remember the feeling of pain I felt in my body when I learned my father had commissioned a local healer to healer my brother.”
“Soon thereafter, my brother was gone. I searched every nook and cranny of the house, but I never found him.”
“And worst of all,” Solk growled slightly. “When I confronted him and my mother about it, they played the fool. Denying his existence as if he was never even born.”
“After that, I hated my father with all my hearts. I wanted to get revenge no matter the cost, and I knew just how,” Solk said in a slightly menacing tone.
“His pride and life’s work was being a trader traveling to outpost selling and trading merchandise. I knew if I wanted to make him suffer, I needed to ruin it all.”
“Summer after summer, I pretended to be the perfect son, the one who wasn't misshapen, who listened to him when he explained and taught me about the family business all the while I waited for my chance.”
“And that day eventually came when my father fell ill just before his next trip to all the outposts. With his blessing, I traveled to each one of them, letting myself be the fool. Selling any and all items for almost worthless sums of coins and items.”
“I knew my father wasn’t going to get any better, and I just wanted him to know how he’d failed before he died.”
Solk took a deep breath as he let the painting down and turned around. “Even as I walked into his bedroom, I could barely contain my smile, but what I was met with was not my ill father, but my mother, sisters, and a healer.”
“If I had run, I would have made it, but I didn’t, and so my father died believing his life’s work and pride would be in safe hands.”
“He was my father, so it was expected of me to be sad, but unlike so much of my life, I didn’t lie or hide my feelings.”
“My life’s goal. The one moment I had been working toward. Gone snatched from my hands in the final moments.”
“His death left a bitter taste in my mouth, but I knew I would get everything I wanted once I met him again.”
“ However on, one night, when I was just relaxing in my room, my mother brought me a letter. It was my father's last words if he died before I got home.”
“I expected it to contain his finale words like how I would do great things for the family or that I had to remember the family and marry a god, royal woman.”
“But when I read it, I was in shock. My father confessed to me that all those summers ago, when my brother was taken away, he hadn’t been killed. He had was brought to a secret facility made only for misshapen royal children.”
“At a moment’s notice, I forgot about my plan to destroy the family business, and I spent no small amount of time and coins to find out where the facility was and get him out.”
“I was overjoyed to see him once more again, but he was different. Quieter than I remembered, and he spaced out more often.”
“He only talked to me and only stayed in his room, but one day when I arrived in his room, I found that on one of the walls, he, with the use of cutlery, had drawn an image of us when we were still together.”
“He was a true marvel to behold when he got to work. He was no longer spacing out, not while he was painting.”
“He was more focused than even some swordsmen in a fight, and his paintings alone were so beautiful that all the work I had done to ruin the family business just dispersed and was forgotten by all after just selling one of his works.”
“However, the good times didn’t last forever as eventually, my brother grew dissatisfied with selling his paintings.”
“He said to me, gold is too cheap a price to pay when you could share it with all, high and lowborn alike, instead of locking it away forever.”
“Of course, I laughed at this and reminded him that his work was too good for the eyes of a low-born. He grew angry with me after that and locked himself in his room.”
“For a long time then, I can remember we didn’t talk, but he still painted, and of course, I showed them off and sold them.”
“However, after so long of not talking with each other, my brother burst out of his room yelling, the gods have shown me perfection.”
“I was confused, but before I even had a chance to ask anything, he started to paint working while Ki and Di traded places many times.”
Once they had traded places for the third time, I grew very worried and got some of the servants to force the door to his room open.”
“All I remember after that,” Solk said in a saddened tone of voice. “Was him lying on the floor as servants lifted him up on his bed and rushed out to get a healer.”
“I didn’t move or react. I only watched as my brother slowly died, saying his last words, the ones I’ve engraved in his final work.”
“Wow… I…. that was kind of heavy,” Kenneth said, not knowing what else to say.
“Do you now understand why it’s hard to sell?” Solk asked as he turned around and picked up the painting. “My brother wanted his work to be seen and not just sold off and hidden away.”
“I get it,” Kenneth said, crossing his arms. “You can’t just trade it for gold like all the others he made, but at the same time, you can’t just keep it hidden away.”
“I don’t know If I’m the ideal person to buy this painting, but I’ll try to honor the memory of you, brother.”
“I truly hope you’ll do better than I have,” Solk said shamefully.
Kenneth walked along the street, passing whispering Aki after whispering Aki while holding the panting.
There had been a little haggling but nothing worth mentioning.
Kenneth wasn’t truly sure how to feel about anything that had happened lately, but he did know one thing. He was tired and just wanted a break.
With that in mind, he just walked straight home and threw himself on his bed, but of course, not before carefully placing the painting he’d bought on the floor.
He wasn’t too tired to actually sleep, so he just let himself relax and think about stuff like how many times people have tried to behead him and other such fun things.
Kenneth wasn’t sure how long he stayed in bed, but eventually, the door to the living room swung open.
Kenneth opened one eye and saw it was Nya.
“There you are,” She said. “You know how hard it is to find you?”
“I can imagine,” Kenneth responded.
“So, how does it feel?” Nya asked teasingly.
“How does what feel?” Kenneth asked back as she sat down on her bed.
Oh, I don’t know,” Nya said sarcastically. “Perhaps healing the burning death, a feat, mind you, only Uloko and the combined fortitude of a hundred healers have ever managed to do.”
“I… suppose it feels good,” Kenneth answered in a bored tone of voice.
“You could sound a little more excited, you know,” Nya chuckled, her tail swinging from side to side as she lay on her side. “Do you even know what the people of the outpost are saying?”
“Let me guess,” Kenneth said, his deep voice even deeper and sounding almost like a frog's ribbit in a strange way. “Oh, finally, the abomination is leaving. I hope I’m the one who gets to burn down the wagon he’s in.”
“Well, yes, there was a little of that in the beginning,” Nya admitted. “But after that, every time Ki and Di traded placed, more and more of that kind of talk died down and was replaced with questions.”
“Why isn’t the wagon getting burned yet? The abomination is probably only buying time, right? You don’t really think it can do it, right? Why is the food tasting so good now with the abomination gone?”
“Now everyone is talking about how you healed the burning death and that the party tonight is only because of you,” Nya said in a happy tone of voice.
“Oh really,” Kenneth responded, only really half listening.
“Wait, what party,” Kenneth said, bewildered, sitting up.
“Yes, not too long ago, the merchant said he’d throw a party in honor of his son's health and good fortune,” Nya said happily as she rolled in bed excitedly, her mouth getting wetter at the thought of floor juice.
“If I hadn’t said before, I’ll say it now. Thanks, I didn’t think I’d get something good to drink this year.”
“Errrrr… don’t mention it,” Kenneth said, slightly confused.
For a moment, he thought about what he’d just been told, and he could help but chuckle, “That sly old fox.”
“Did you say something?” Nya asked as she sat up.
“It was nothing,” Kenneth responded, still chuckling.
“Oooooooooooooooookay,” Nya responded.
Kenneth thought it was strang how she said it and looked over, but as he did, Nya fell on her knees.
“Nya, are you okay!” Kenneth yelled as he jumped out of bed.
She didn’t respond; she only pointed straight ahead and seemed to try and say something but couldn’t.
Kenneth followed the finger and saw it was the painting she was pointing at.
“Oh, that,” Kenneth said, relieved. “I bought it from Solk, the merchant.”
“I-I-I-I… so…” Nya stuttered, unable to say anything coherent.
“Noktato,” Nya eventually uttered in her somewhat dazed state.
“Who?” Kenneth asked.
“You don’t know who Noktato is!” Nya exclaimed as she looked at him as if he was brain-dead until she remembered who she was talking to. “Oh, for a moment, I forgot you aren’t. Never mind.”
“Noktato is the biggest heretic of them all, bigger than even Silvaka. Do you even know what this painting depicts?” Nya said, her tail and her ears moving almost independently of her body.
“Can’t say that I do,” Kenneth said, sitting back on the bed. “Kind of been teaching more than I’ve been taught.”
“Well, then, how about I educate you,” Nya said as she got off her knees. “This painting depicts the beginning of the end. Or the first major battle in the four-hundred-year war on the flatlands.”
“More precisely, it depicts the battle between the two champions, Noktato, the accursed spear, and the blessed Akina, the mighty shield.”
“Akina!” Kenneth uttered in surprise.

2023.06.07 19:49 Adventurous-Can-3351 Lost confidence

I'm a relatively new driver at the age of 24. I got my license about a year and a half ago but haven't started consistently driving until about 2 weeks ago, when I finally got my car! At first it was really exciting and I know that I'm an incredibly cautious driver, always scanning and being defensive against reckless drivers.
This is going to sound so silly, but then again, anxiety isn't always rational. The other day, I was driving back home in an area known for having many cyclists. I was coming up to a red light at a slow speed, stopped, checked for oncoming traffic and once I made sure I was clear, made the turn. But at the exact time, maybe it was the music I was listening to, but I thought I heard a bike bell. I know for certain that I didn't hit anything/get hit by anything but as my brain scrapes through the memories and my anxiety amplifies my worst fears, I'm getting swept up in the idea that I cut off a cyclist that was trying to get onto the road and now I'm going to get sued. I spoke to several people about a hypothetical cyclist that I didn't even hit about the possibilities. I know it's in my head, but it's like remembering to lock the door. Did I actually do it?
The same thing happened this morning when I was driving out of a parking lot. A car was pulling into the lot and I was exiting. A pedestrian was on my right and while I ensured that there was ample space on the left, making sure the car and I did not touch, did I drive too close to the right? Again, no contact or hearing of distress from the pedestrian I know I didn't hit. But my brain is making me believe I forced the pedestrian into an uncomfortable spot without touching them.
Does anyone else make up these ridiculous scenarios in their head? Or how do you combat these irrational thoughts? I know I'm already cautious and safe but these crippling anxious thoughts make me doubt my confidence...

2023.06.07 19:45 SirPesoOtaku Conemunity Poll: Introducing a Subscription Fee: Cone Voices Matter!

I am gathering your Conepinions on the potential introduction of a subscription fee to our subreddit.
As our Conemunity continues to grow, we recognize the need for sustainable resources to fuel our progress and members. The introduction of a subscription fee can play a crucial role in achieving these goals. It will enable us to enhance the stability, value, and overall experience of our Conemunity.
The subscription fee could be set at $5.00 per month, a reasonable amount that reflects our commitment to affordability while generating the necessary resources for our Conemunity growth.
Here are some key points to consider regarding the sub fee:
  1. Token Buybacks and Liquidity: A significant portion of the subscription fee revenue would be dedicated to coneducting token buybacks from the open market. This strategy aims to reduce circulating supply, increase token scarcity, and potentially boost the value of our token. Additionally, a portion of the acquired tokens would be locked in liquidity, enhancing trading conditions for all participants.
  2. Subscriber Rewards and Benefits: Your subscription would entitle you to exclusive rewards and benefits as an exclusive rewards and benefits as a token of our appreciation for your support. These rewards may include access to premium conetent, early feature releases, participation in a loyalty program, or other valuable incentives.
  3. Conemunity Development and Expansion: The sub fee revenue would be invested in the development and expansion of our conemunity. It will allow us to fund new initiatives, improve infrastructure, and engage in effective marketing efforts. By expanding our reach, we can attract more like-minded individuals and create even more opportunities.
What are the legal issues? How Do we ensure Compliance?
  1. Payment Processing: If we’re collecting payments for the subscription fee, we need to adhere to applicable laws and regulations regarding payment processing. This includes data protection, security, and ensuring compliance with payment card standards (PCI DDS) if applicable.
  2. Data Privacy: We should collection personal information from subscribers may be subject to data protection laws such as the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) in the European Union or similar regulations in other jurisdictions. Ensure that we have appropriate data protection policies and practices in place to handle and secure subscriber data.
  3. Terms of Service and Privacy Policy: We should review and update our terms of service and privacy policy to reflect the introduction of the subscription fee. Clearly outline the terms, conditions, and the rights associated with the fee, including cancellation or refund policies.
  4. Taxation: We should consult with tax professionals to determine any tax implications associated with collecting subscription fees and understand whether we need to collect and remit sales tax or value-added tax (VAT) based on our jurisdiction and the location of our subscribers.
  5. Securities Regulations: Depending on the nature of our token and its distribution, there may be securities regulations, such as the Securities Act in the United States or similar regulations in other jurisdictions.
  6. Jurisdictional Considerations: Laws and regulations related to subscription fees can vary across jurisdictions. We should research and understand the legal requirements specific to our operating location and the jurisdictions in which our subscribers reside.

**A little Hopium…
If half of our total members, which is 5,307 (ATOW), participated in the monthly subscription, it would amount to 2,653 members. Lets explore the scenario and calculate some statistics:
  1. Monthly Sub Rev: $13,265.
  2. Token Buybacks and Liquidity: we can allocate a significant portion to liquidity. The desired amount would depend on our desired plans.
  3. Subscriber Rewards: we could reward subscribers with half of the monthly fees which is $6,250 in Bitcone redistributed to subscribers.
Your opinion matters, and I want to ensure that your voice is heard. Please take a moment to participate in this poll and share your thoughts. Your feedback will play a crucial role in shaping the future direction of our Conemunity!

2023.06.07 19:34 Radiant_Signature940 [Real] (06/07/23) hangover

No. I’m not drinking. I don’t mean that kind of hangover. I mean the emotional kind. I woke up sobbing yesterday. I put makeup on. Did my hair. Got dressed. Sat down at the computer… logged in…. And continued to sob. I pulled up the plans for a huge project in Gresham and…. I couldn’t make sense of them. They looked all scrambled up and the information was incoherent. I sobbed some more. Luckily, my boss understood and I took a sick day. I’d like to report that I spent the day in complete and total emotional health but that’s not the case. I slept for the majority of the day. I wish I could report that I had some productive “thinks” but that’s also not the case. I spent the time when I wasn’t sleeping looking underneath rocks I’ve already flipped over. There are no desirable outcomes to any of this. I’ve concluded the best thing that I can do is keep moving forward, regardless of how much it hurts.
When my mom died, everything changed. I didn’t know how to get rid of the grief. When someone dies, you get three days to grieve and then the world expects you to carry on unaffected. It is my experience that it takes more than 3 days to thoroughly grieve the death of a parent. What I’ve really learned is that grief doesn’t ever really go away… you just grow muscles that help to carry it. I am hoping that is what happens here.
I’ve been in a lot of relationships. It’s a fact I’m not totally proud of but I don’t want to live in shame over it either. “It’s just information”, my counselor says. (Though this particular information has been treated as reason to treat me poorly or distrust me… I’ve definitely learned that sharing my past with people is not safe and I won’t be doing that again. Lesson learned.) (also, I’m going somewhere with this)
I’m not sure how to break this down… except to say that, because I have desired so greatly for a real love story, I’ve been not necessarily mindful of who I’ve chosen to be in relationships with as much as I have been really mindful about how much of myself I gave to those relationships. There’s always been this part of me that I have kept locked away and as men have proven to not be trustworthy or have been completely dangerous. Regardless of how bad things got or how much someone has broken me, there’s always remained this little piece of me that they couldn’t have and frankly, that’s probably how I survived. There’s always been this sense of safety in knowing that the piece of me that was never handed over was still preserve. I liked the idea of giving it to someone one day and being able to say “I saved it for ya cause I knew you were coming🥹”.
This split has been particularly painful because I gave that piece of me to him. And the results of the relationship were no different than any other. While he didn’t beat my ass the way others have…. While he was gentle in nature initially…. The mind games were no different. In hindsight…. When I look back, I realize that I didn’t have nearly as much of him as I was giving to him. I gave him that piece of me that I had guarded so ferociously my entire life but when I looked in his eyes, I didn’t see me. I saw everyone else he was seeing. I tried to be okay with it. Narcissist always screamed at me that I would never be the only woman alive…. But….. I couldn’t reconcile that. I thought surely there could be someone out there who wouldn’t take me for granted or abuse me or neglect and abandon me. So I held on tight and kept on hoping.
My most recent split has left me utterly raw and the place where that guarded, sacred piece of me used to be is just…. Gone. I don’t know how to get that back. Have you met people who wanted to be in a relationship but they were so damaged from another relationship and they were still so hung up on the other person that it was like you didn’t even exist? I have. And I fear that’s who I will become once the rawness hardens. Which is pathetic because I was never anything special to him to begin with. Choice. Option. One of many. He didn’t see me. I gave myself to the wrong person.
I don’t know how to come back from this. To some degree, I think that touching the hot stove has finally taught me a lesson. Men actually are dangerous. They don’t care about you. They will never see you. You’re never going to be safe with a man. I’m not going to turn into a lesbian. I’m not interested in having my heart ripped out and shit on ever again. I’m working myself into a place of acceptance. Unconditional faithful love isn’t going to happen for me. I hope that’s okay one day…. But right now…. I feel like I am dying.
In other news, I’m getting my nipples pierced today. Interesting that some form of body modification has happened after every break up. Though, I’ve wanted them pierced for a long time so I’m just doing something I’ve wanted to do for awhile.
I guess that’s all I’ve got right now.

2023.06.07 19:30 SirTitFart I'm an idiot

So I just bought a 13 700 dct. The bike runs like a dream. However, I have fucked up. I tried to force fit my helmet into the frunk and I finally got it to lock. But on getting it out, I fucked the locking mechanism in the frunk and it won't unlatch. I have the key, but I can't get it open. Any thoughts? I've been prying on it as gently as I can, but nothing. Man I'm dumb

2023.06.07 19:18 HeadOfSpectre Memories of Splashtown and The Electric Blue Death Slide

TW: Child Abduction

If you grew up near Tevam Sound back in the 1970s, you might have fond memories of Splashtown. If you didn’t and don't know what that is, then I'll clue you in.

Splashtown was a small water park that opened just outside of Tevam Sound back in the late 1960s and it was a riot! I used to love going there when I was a kid, and back then my favorite ride was the Electric Blue.

I guess compared to other water slides in fancier water parks, the Electric Blue wasn't anything that special. It was the biggest and most impressive slide at Splashtown, but that probably wasn't saying much. It stood about two storeys tall (pretty big for a small town waterslide) and was (as the name implied) electric blue in color. The climb up wasn't too long, but the slide down was intense! The slide spiraled around for at least 3 or 4 loops on its way down to the pool, and you always felt like you were going Mach 1 as you descended! When you rocketed out of the slide and into the pool, it felt like being shot out of a canon and it was awesome!

I always figured that the intensity of coming down the Electric Blue is part of what originally earned it the nickname of ‘The Electric Blue Death Slide’. Although the disappearances probably contributed to it too.

If you were to ask the police, they’d say that someone had abducted the kids from the water park itself, and that the slide had nothing to do with it. But for some reason, people started equating the slide with the disappearances and eventually, the rumor became that if you went down the Electric Blue Death Slide, you might not come out. Supposedly, if you went down at the wrong time, or slid down the wrong way, or even went down this secret part of the slide by accident, you’d wind up someplace else. Nobody exactly knew where. Only that you couldn’t get home once you were there, no matter how hard you tried.

The rumors really didn’t do much to keep people away from the slide. Nobody put that much stock into them and the allure of a sick ass waterslide beat out most kids quiet superstitions. The disappearances weren’t super common either. A few of them even got resolved within the day, when it turned out that some kid had just gotten separated from their parents.

Nobody, save for a few grieving parents who’d never found their kids were that worried about it, and since neither ten year old me nor anyone I knew were one of those grieving parents, we fell into the ‘not that worried about it’ camp.

With the benefit of hindsight all these years later, I can safely say that ten year old me might have been a fucking idiot.

***

I remember that the last time I went to Splashtown, I was pumped to tackle the Electric Blue Death Slide again. I was a bold, brave, tough man and I was going to face death head on by going down that water slide! Okay… not really, but that’s what if felt like!

I remember my heart racing as I climbed up the stairs slide. It wasn’t my first time riding by myself. I’d done it before, and I knew that my Mom was waiting for me by the pool at the bottom.

As I reached the top, I was almost bouncing up and down in excitement. One by one, the people in line before me went down and when it was finally my turn, an attendant helped me get settled before sending me down the slide after them.

For a few moments, my world turned blue as I raced through the electric blue tube, screaming with joy all the while. I could feel the blood rushing to my head with every loop, as I spiraled down toward the pool and when I finally reached the bottom and was launched into the pool, I was screaming with laughter.

The water surrounded me, and I kicked my way up to the surface before swimming toward the side of the pool, near where I’d seen my Mom not too long ago.
“Mom, did you see?” I asked, although she didn’t respond.

Her chair was empty. Her stuff was still there, but she was gone.
“Mom?”
I looked around for her, but she was nowhere in sight.

“Excuse me, are you Ezra?” A voice asked, and I looked over to see a man approaching me. He was wearing an employee's uniform and had a long face with messy dark hair. It was hard to guess at his age, but looking back I’d say that he was somewhere in his mid thirties. I didn’t answer him at first, not until he spoke again.

“I’m supposed to go and bring you to your Mom, she fell sprained her ankle. We’ve got her over in the infirmary right now.”

Mom was hurt?

The man offered me a hand, and I took it. He smiled at me, as he helped me out of the pool.
“Come on,” He said. “She’s just over here.”
He led me away from the pool and I followed him without question. There was a small fenced off area that he led me toward with a sign that read ‘Employees Only’ on it.

“Just in here!” He said. “This will take us right to the infirmary!”
I could see the pump for the pool nearby, although there wasn’t much else in that area. The man seemed to know where he was going though, and as he led me toward a wooden shed, I followed.
“Just getting the key for the gate on the other side,” He said as he ducked into the shed and gestured for me to follow him inside. I did.

The door closed behind me, and I watched as the man rifled around on a nearby counter.
“Should be right here,” He assured me. I saw him opening up a toolbox, and noticed him taking out a hammer, although didn’t think too much of it at the time.
“She’s not hurt badly, is she?” I asked, more worried about my Mom than the stranger.

“No, she’ll pull through. She just wanted to make sure you knew where she was, that’s all!” He said. I noticed him wrapping the hammer in a towel, before turning toward me again. He smiled, and before I even knew what was happening he cracked the hammer across my face, sending me to the ground with a pained scream. I felt my jaw dislocate from the impact and I could taste blood.

The man walked over to the door of the shed and quietly slid a bolt in place to lock it, before going back to his toolbox. I saw him taking out a pair of gloves, before letting out a contented sigh. He was still smiling, as he stood over me.
“Just relax, kiddo…” He said, “I’m not gonna hurt you.”

I tried to crawl away from him, only for him to grab me and pull me toward him. He was still smiling at me… he had his hands all over me and he was smiling at me, like all of this was normal to him. Like he’d done this a thousand times before.

I didn’t know what he was going to do to me.

I didn’t want to know.

I tried to scream, but I knew that nobody heard me between my busted jaw and the screams from the nearby pool. I was all alone with him, and somehow in my gut I knew that he was going to kill me. He was going to kill me, and nobody was going to know.

Then I heard it.

A knocking on the shed door.
“Ezra?”
The voice belonged to my mother.

The man's eyes widened as his head jerked toward the door, eyes wide. I seized my opportunity. I was ten, but I knew where to kick a man so that it would really hurt, and when I heard him scream, I screamed too. I crawled for the door, scrambling to my feet as i reached for the bolt that would unlock the door, before the man grabbed me from behind.

He was too late.

He caught me, but the door burst open and my Mom charged in. She only needed to look at the man who was holding me, and I could see rage filling her eyes as her every fear became manifested.

The man could only stare helplessly as my Mom lunged for him, acting on pure instinct. She tried to rip me out of his grasp, slapping and kicking him as she did. I sank my teeth into his arm, forcing him to let me go and scrambled out of the shed as my Mom fought the stranger off. It didn’t take me that long to run into an actual employee and from there… well… everything is a blur.

***

I found out later that the same ‘employee’ who’d taken me had told my Mom that I’d fallen and gotten hurt on my way up the slide a few minutes earlier. She’d only noticed the man leading me away by chance when she’d spotted me out of the corner of her eye and gone to see what was going on.

I thank God every day that she did.

The ‘employee’ who’d taken me wasn’t actually employed at Splashtown. He was a man from Sudbury by the name of Paul Young, although some of the people who worked at Splashtown swore they’d seen him ‘working’ there several times before, and when the police searched Young’s house, they found ‘trophies’ he’d taken from some of the other kids who’d disappeared at Splashtown and once they found those trophies, it wasn’t too long before they found the bodies.

Three of them, all buried in shallow graves a short distance away from the shed that Young had taken me to, just on the edge of the property.

People finally knew the truth about the kids who’d disappeared after riding the Electric Blue… and the truth was far more horrifying than any of them could have imagined.

Paul Young died in prison about three months after he was sentenced, but that wasn’t really surprising. I don’t think they ever figured out who killed him, and I don’t think they looked that hard either.

Splashtown closed about a week after my kidnapping, and it never reopened. The water park sat vacant through the 1980s before eventually getting demolished. Now all that’s left is the memory.

I wish I could say that every memory I have of Splashtown was a happy one, like some people. But every time I pass the spot where it used to be, all I can think about is that last trip. It’s a strip mall now, with some condos behind it. I don’t think there’s anything left of the old Splashtown.

I’m of two minds about that. On one hand, there’s a small nostalgic part of me that misses it. On the other, I think I can do without the reminder of what almost happened to me that day.

2023.06.07 19:18 cathode-ray-tuber is this safe to operate?

is this safe to operate?
TLDR do anti-theft/immobilizers only active during initial start up or continuously during operation?
i apologize in advance for my lack of knowledge when it comes to mechanics
2004 automatic honda civic coupe
when i got into my car after groceries i inserted my key into the ignition everything was as normal as it always was (slid in fine, made its beeps) however it would not twist like at all, i tried a spare key, i tried moving the steering wheel back and forth, tried wiggling the transmission (moved it between park and neutral), tried moving my car forward and backwards all while twisting the key in the ignition but still it would not budge. needing to get home i used the three tools i had in my trunk to remove the plastics surrounding the steering column (??) and was able to remove the tumblecylinder(??) with this part out of its home i inserted the keys and tried to see if it would turn (used some WD40) which it did not so im thinking the tumblecylinder is kaput. with the tumblecylinder removed i figured id try and crank the car using the screwdriver. however the ignition switch (??) would not budge either which i figured out after i walked home that i locked the wheels while trying to get it started when the tumblecylinder was still in the housing. so earlier this morning i walked back to the parking lot was able to unlock the wheels and then i tried the screwdriver again and the car turned over. drove the three minutes back to my place and the car is now parked while i figure out what my options are and costs associated with them to get it fixed.
my biggest concern/question has to do with the anti-theft/immobilizer (??) system. the key is chipped so my guess is its needed to turn the car over. right now as shown in the picture is how i started/drove the car. assuming that the key needs to be close to the chip reader to start up and i can crank the car with a screwdriver does this necessarily need to be fixed back to original condition cosmetics aside? does the anti-theft/immobilizer system only active during start up or does this system “ping” the chipped key throughout operation? im concerned about it engaging during operation if the key were to fall/be moved from reader ultimately causing an accident/harm to others and myself. is this safe to drive and if not what costs would be associated with getting a mechanic to fix it or fixing it myself (chipped key process would throw me through a loop)?? 2023.06.07 19:17 RequirementOne79 Engine light went away after being cleared twice?

2015 ford fiesta
I had code P0017 (camshaft position correlation) and I cleared it using my cheap(ish) scan tool. It came back right away. I messed around with some connections (just making sure they’re all in properly) and brought it to my mechanic.
He cleared them using his tool and they went away and hasn’t come back on. I’ve done about 5 cycles of the car and drove it maybe 15 miles since. Could it just have been a glitch?
I have a 170 mile round trip on Monday. Safe to drive?
TIA!

2023.06.07 19:14 ValdikSS Scaleway VC1-x, X64-x, Start1-x bootscript to local boot in-place migration without destroying the instance

I have a VC1S type VPS instance since 2016. Scaleway has deprecated the "bootscript" booting method which was initially used by default some years ago, unfortunately without providing a method to perform in-place migration for current "local boot" method for this type of instance.
The official migration documentation provides the steps to convert only newer types of instances which were initially configured for UEFI booting, and tells us to export all the data, recreate the disk and attach it to a new instance otherwise, which is the case with VC1-x, X64-x, Start1-x types.
My VC1S type of machine is a legacy one and not offered anymore, but more importantly, it's much cheaper than the current instance families. that's why I'd like to keep it instead of creating new type of instance with the old data.
The major inconvenience is that VC1-x, X64-x, Start1-x come with no partition table and partitions on local disk: the ext4 file system is created directly on the disk, without the bootloader or even kernel (it is provided by the bootscript/hypervisor). This kind of partitioning could not be used for regular UEFI booting. We'll move the data partition, make the partition table and create the EFI partition for it to boot.

BEFORE YOU BEGIN

Create a snapshot of your disk using Scaleway interface, just in case something goes wrong. Wait until it finishes creating.
The steps we'll take to convert the data:
  1. Install the kernel and grub packages to the OS
  2. Shrink the filesystem size
  3. Move the filesystem data in-place further to the disk
  4. Create GPT partition table, EFI and data partitions
  5. Install the bootloader (GRUB) in UEFI mode
  6. Fill in fstab
All is based on Debian 10.

1. Install the packages

You'll need at least the kernel and the bootloader. I've also installed "ifupdown", as for some reason it was missing in my installation and no network was configured after all the steps (the console access worked though).
# apt install linux-image-amd64 grub-efi-amd64 ifupdown
Make sure that /boot has the vmlinuz and initrd files
# ls /boot config-4.19.0-24-cloud-amd64 initrd.img-4.19.0-24-cloud-amd64 System.map-4.19.0-24-cloud-amd64 vmlinuz-4.19.0-24-cloud-amd64
Make sure grub-install command is present (you don't need to install the bootloader yet)
# grub-install --version grub-install (GRUB) 2.06-3~deb10u3

2. Shrink the filesystem size

Now reboot to the rescue image of Scaleway. poweroff from the console, go to Advanced Settings, select "Use rescue image", boot the machine.
Once it's booted, login to the machine over SSH, you'll be in a rescue mode. It boots a special image from another disk, allowing unrestricted manipulations with your local disk.
Ensure you have your local disk with the filesystem
# cat /dev/vda file - /dev/stdin: Linux rev 1.0 ext4 filesystem data, UUID=1865917f-d4e9-4bcf-b624-de9dc97d0f20 (extents) (large files) (huge files)
Perform the filesystem check:
# fsck.ext4 -f /dev/vda e2fsck 1.46.5 (30-Dec-2021) Pass 1: Checking inodes, blocks, and sizes Pass 2: Checking directory structure Pass 3: Checking directory connectivity Pass 4: Checking reference counts Pass 5: Checking group summary information /dev/vda: 178933/3055616 files (1.1% non-contiguous), 2852413/12207031 blocks
Check the filesystem size:
# dumpe2fs /dev/vda grep -F 'Block count' dumpe2fs 1.46.5 (30-Dec-2021) Block count: 12207031
This is 12207031 blocks × 4096 block size = 49999998976 bytes (50 GB)
Now shrink the partition size to the minimal amount, to ease its moving:
-M Shrink the file system to minimize its size as much as possible, given the files stored in the file system. # resize2fs -M /dev/vda resize2fs 1.46.5 (30-Dec-2021) Resizing the filesystem on /dev/vda to 3045809 (4k) blocks. The filesystem on /dev/vda is now 3045809 (4k) blocks long.
This took about 7 minutes and shrunk the filesystem from 50 GB down to 12.4 GB, without any free space inside the filesystem.
Now the filesystem is 3045809 blocks in size.

3. Move the filesystem data in-place further to the disk

This is the most important step which could and will irreversibly corrupt your filesystem if done incorrectly.
In order to create the partition table and additional EFI partition, we need to move the existing filesystem, which begins right from the very first sector of the local drive, somewhere further away, down the disk. I recommend moving it for 128MiB (134217728 byte) to the right. This is more than enough for the partition table and EFI partition, where the bootloader would be stored.
We'll need to install GNU ddrescue to the rescue environment:
# apt install gddrescue
GNU ddrescue allows to copy the data backwards (in reverse, starting from the last block) which is very important in our case, as we're copying the data "from the left to the right" of the disk. Otherwise the data would be irrecoverably corrupted.
The syntax as follows:
ddrescue --reverse --size= --input-position=0 --output-position= --sector-size=512 --cluster-size=256 --same-file --force --ask /dev/vda /dev/vda
The filesystem size could be calculated as shown in the example above (multiply filesystem block count by 4096, the block size). I'm going to move the filesystem 134217728 bytes to the right. The command in my case is:
# ddrescue --reverse --size=12475633664 --input-position=0 --output-position=134217728 --sector-size=512 --cluster-size=256 --same-file --force --ask /dev/vda /dev/vda GNU ddrescue 1.23 About to copy 12475 MBytes from '/dev/vda' [UNKNOWN] (50000000000) to '/dev/vda' [UNKNOWN] (50000000000) Proceed (y/N)? y Press Ctrl-C to interrupt ipos: 8131 MB, non-trimmed: 0 B, current rate: 210 MB/s opos: 8265 MB, non-scraped: 0 B, average rate: 160 MB/s non-tried: 8131 MB, bad-sector: 0 B, error rate: 0 B/s rescued: 4343 MB, bad areas: 0, run time: 27s pct rescued: 34.81%, read errors: 0, remaining time: 51s time since last successful read: 0s Copying non-tried blocks... Pass 1 (backwards)
This took about 2 minutes.
Check that everything is fine by issuing:
# dd if=/dev/vda iflag=skip_bytes skip=134217728 file - /dev/stdin: Linux rev 1.0 ext4 filesystem data, UUID=1865917f-d4e9-4bcf-b624-de9dc97d0f20 (extents) (large files) (huge files)

4. Create GPT partition table, EFI and data partitions

Now we need to create the partition table and two partitions: one for EFI booting, another is for our moved filesystem.
Use cfdisk for that:
# cfdisk /dev/vda
Create GPT partition table, then 1 new partition of "260096s" size (260096 sectors) and set the type of it to "EFI system", then create another partition for the remaining of the disk.
You should see something like this:
 Disk: /dev/vda Size: 46.6 GiB, 50000000000 bytes, 97656250 sectors Label: gpt, identifier: B6341233-F14A-334D-A2F7-74BE5649F848 Device Start End Sectors Size Type >> /dev/vda1 2048 262143 260096 127M EFI System /dev/vda2 262144 97656216 97394073 46.5G Linux filesystem
Make sure that start sector of /dev/vda2 is the same value as the amount you've moved your partition for. The sector size is 512 bytes in this case (and the block size of the filesystem is 4096).
262144 × 512 = 134217728
Press "write" to save your data on disk.
Now we'll mount our filesystem as partition, to make sure that everything was done correctly:
# mkdir m # mount /dev/vda2 m # ls m bin dev home initrd.img.old lib64 media opt root sbin sys usr vmlinuz boot etc initrd.img lib lost+found mnt proc run srv tmp var vmlinuz.old
It's time to create the EFI file system. It should be FAT32 (vfat):
# mkfs.vfat /dev/vda1 mkfs.fat 4.2 (2021-01-31)

5. Install the bootloader (GRUB) in UEFI mode

Installing the bootloader from the other system is always a bit tricky. For maximum compatibility, we'll install the original bootloader from Debian in chroot environment. First we need to mount /proc, /sys and /dev mount points from the host (rescue system) to our filesystem, and then chroot to it.
# mount /dev/vda2 ./m # mount --bind /proc ./m/proc # mount --bind /sys ./m/sys # mount --bind /dev ./m/dev # mkdir ./m/boot/efi # mount /dev/vda1 ./m/boot/efi # chroot m
In the chroot environment, execute the following:
# grub-install --removable --target=x86_64-efi # grub-install --target=x86_64-efi
Next we need to generate GRUB configuration file. This require some modifications for the Scaleway. Open /etc/default/grub and change GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT line to:
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet console=tty1 console=ttyS0"
Execute configuration file generation:
# update-grub
This will copy all the needed files to our EFI partition and generate grub.cfg bootloader configuration file. Don't be scared of the "warning: Discarding improperly nested partition" messages, they are safe to skip. For non-Debian and non-Ubuntu OS you'll need to generate configuration file using grub-mkconfig, something like:
# grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg

6. Fill in fstab

Add the following lines in ./m/etc/fstab file, otherwise your root mount point would be read-only on the next boot:
/dev/vda2 / ext4 defaults 0 1 /dev/vda1 /boot/efi vfat defaults 0 2
And that's it! All is left is to exit the chroot and unmount the partitions:
# exit # exit from chroot # umount ./m/boot/efi # umount ./m/proc # umount ./m/sys # umount ./m/dev
Power off the machine
# poweroff
Go to Advanced Settings in the Scaleway panel, select "Local Boot" method, boot the machine.
If everything is done correctly, the machine should boot and be reachable from the network. If you can't reach it over SSH, open the console in the panel and debug it from there.

2023.06.07 19:13 dlschindler The House Of Dust

Immortality defies the gods.
Last City Of Man stood in bleak sandblown towers before the Mad Swordsman in its tattered rags. The towering tarnished machine limped forward, dragging its sword-arm with its remaining limb. The brown robes covering the giant whipped in fluttering tatters and its hood shaded the cracked black orb that was its face.
"All dead. The enemy follows, as I bring the message of doom." Mad Swordsman laughed to itself as it went.
In the city it went, through the opening gates. There in the center of the calming wind storm stood Law Givers. These men and women were paid by tax revenue to read the laws written on the pillar in the center of the city. Each faced a different direction, loudly reciting Law.
The city was divided into districts, each within another, with an avenue that bisected the city in one direction, while the river it commanded bisected it in the other direction. At its heart stood the stronghold of its king. He was the only man in the city that was fertile. All the other men were castrated during childhood and partnered to a girl, betrothed. Yet when they were married, it was the king that took the bride on a honeymoon.
"It isn't madness? Would I recognize madness?" Mad Swordsman listened as the law was described. It decided that the laws of this final city were insane laws. All the taxes and mutilations. Every crime was punished the same way: by cutting off the offending body part. Sometimes just having that body part was a crime, apparently.
"What are you doing here, giant?" King Gamma asked. He had with him his army. Some had spears or clubs, others had bows and bronze axes, still a few had rusted assault rifles swathed in leather or painted rocket launchers decorated in fetishes. Their armor was similarly arranged from grass shields, sports padding or chainmail to patched flak jackets. Mad Swordsman decided they were only minimal adversaries. With a sweep of its weapon or a sudden tumbling roll it could wipe them out instantly. It hadn't come to the city to fight humans.
"I forgot." Mad Swordsman chuckled.
"Do you want repairs? You must do something for me." King Gamma pointed to the desocketed sword-arm it was dragging. The left hand of the giant robot was a massive sword forged of some metal from the Pool Of Time, near the Temple Of Humanity, far away and long ago. Such things could not be made anymore.
"I want repairs. I must do something for me." Mad Swordsman responded.
"No, for me." King Gamma pointed to himself. "For King Gamma you will serve."
"Mad Swordsman serves no king." Mad Swordsman laughed. "Have you not heard my song in the ruins of the cities? Will you see my shadow before you in the wastelands? I wander and here to there I go. I wonder, my little king with a big heart, do you know?" Mad Swordsman spoke and dropped the sword-arm, gesturing with its freed hand as it spoke poetically.
"You insolent robot! I should have you shot from the walls with imp's needles." King Gamma was turning red faced and angry.
"I see those EMP harpoons you just mentioned." Mad Swordsman looked up and saw two huge crossbows meant for disabling giant robots. It wondered if two would be enough to take it down. It might be.
"You think those will just tickle?" King Gamma laughed angrily. Mad Swordsman started laughing the same way. One of the king's advisors said something to him. He stopped and reconsidered the towering robot, staring up at it. When he had calmed down and thought he gestured for Mad Swordsman to sit.
The machine obeyed. Pleased that the advice he had gotten was solid: he rewarded his advisor with praise and put him in charge of the machine.
"I am Leer. I'd follow me and get repairs, unless I wanted to fall to pieces with sand in my gears and my robes in tatters. Such a tarnished surface. You were once called Silver Swordsman, were you not? You have no gleam." Leer told the robot.
"Those are fun words." Mad Swordsman got up and hefted its sword-arm over its shoulder.
"Then come with me." Leer led the machine into the heart of the city. There was a great library there. Scribes worked day and night by electric light and had recorded information about all things on millions of scrolls of recycled paper. Atop the library was a satellite dish. The gates of bronze were opened and the giant in the brown tattered robe came into the heart of the city, its vast library.
"I shall have to have a look inside. I wonder if the information you have included the Serum of Everlasting Life among other great secrets from ancient times." Leer brought out a cable that he could connect to the inside of Mad Swordsman, to its brain.
"Couldn't I just tell you?" Mad Swordsman chuckled.
"Could you?" Leer stopped for a moment, waiting for that.
"No." Mad Swordsman laughed. "I forgot all that stuff a long time ago. One too many of those robot-eating plants zapped me. You know?" Mad Swordsman knocked on the side of its upper body. It didn't really have a head, just the black orb of sensors and ambient energy intake for a face.
"Let me take a look. It might still be in there." Leer was opening the sealed access panel on the robot with a plasma cutting tool. If it could cut diamonds it could cut the flesh of an empathical. This kind of robot was the most advanced, a machine built by machines, it was nearly indestructible, supposedly.
"That really hurts a lot." Mad Swordsman told him. "Keep doing it because I like pain. Making myself sit here while you do that makes me feel sane. The searing agony makes me feel alive. The trust in a stranger makes me feel holy. Right now I feel as close to God as I ever have."
"You sure are weird." Leer laughed.
"I sure am." Mad Swordsman laughed also and then howled in the torment of its sensitive nerves being burned.
"This will be dangerous. Our minds will touch briefly and the spark of that, in the waves of consciousness that is the fabric of the world, we might cease to exist. Both of us." Leer put on the crown of cables and wore it.
"You want the Serum of Everlasting Life so badly?" Mad Swordsman asked.
"I believe so, yes." Leer stated.
"I will try to help you inside my mind. Be careful, we only have one instant." Mad Swordsman sounded wise to some kind of irony.
"How long will that seem?" Leer worried.
"That depends on how long you have got. Until you break inside your mind, you will not know mine." Mad Swordsman swore.
"It's too late." Leer's eyes rolled back into his head and he jerked as the connection seized up and down his spine painfully. The first thing he was aware of was the phantom pain of the burn. It felt like someone had burned him painfully behind his ear and plugged something into his spine through his neck.
"See my residual self-image." Mad Swordsman stood as a brown robed monk, or at least as the robes of the monk. Only a metal skeleton hid beneath. A grinning skull of silver and long bone fingers of silver. It stood only as tall as the man, or the man stood as tall as the machine. From the perspective of the machine: size was an illusion. Leer noticed he looked exactly the same.
"I look the same." Leer said.
"No you don't. I see you how you see yourself inside your mind. It's not what you look like." Mad Swordsman laughed hysterically after it said this. "You look ridiculous."
"I am already starting to regret this." Leer grumbled. He followed Mad Swordsman through the fogs of memory to some kind of glass city. "What is this place?"
"I don't know what to call it." Mad Swordsman looked around and shrugged. "There is the first place to try: a recent memory."
Terror gripped the man, then. He felt the swift cutting bite. The rending of flesh, no mercy, so much anger being unleashed. So much terror and pain caused. Far worse than the root of the evil. Yet shining there was the jewel he sought.
He watched in a frustrated discord of emotions as Mad Swordsman followed the angry woman's pointing finger. Where she pointed the blade cut a man in half, over and over. Their screams and their blood spray kept happening until it became comical. He was laughing and it felt like vomiting. It was painful, heaving laughter at the sight of the executions. There was almost a musical perfection to the giant's swordplay as it danced with great speed and strength, slashing its blade through each opponent.
When they were all dead the woman and the giant left the cave behind. What was the cave? Leer felt his head spinning. On the walls of the cave were the paintings of different prehistoric animals. Outside stood offroad vehicles retrofitted with armor and weapons. "The Caves of Scane."
Leer fell to the dust and laughed. There was no such place. They might as well have hidden the Serum in the ruins of Casark. There simply was no such place.
"What have you seen? Does the truth frighten you?" Mad Swordsman knelt and put a silver hand on the tickled man in the dust.
"What is that?" Leer's eyes became silent, a terror beyond what a mind can handle. Somehow the tipping of the scales put his ego into a freefall. How small and humble a man can be when he sees a hole in the sky.
"That has no name. It is not something that can be described with eyesight alone. Perhaps you see, in the blue sky, a curtain that is the night sky, except there are no stars. What you see is reality, it is the real-reality. You know instinctively what it is and what it implies to see it there, like that." Mad Swordsman rambled strangely and then laughed merrily at the revelation.
"It is nothing. It is just a dream. A hallucination inside the mind of an insane computer." Leer protested.
"Ah such are all unacceptable memories, I am certain." Mad Swordsman sounded bemused. Its grinning silver skull gleamed under the monk's hood.
"Who is she?" Leer pointed to the statue of the angel that stood towering above the mist.
"I am an empathical and she is my mother. Do you not call upon your own mother in times of great need? Even if she is not there or could not save the hero Gilgamesh, always the quest is for mom." Mad Swordsman sounded proud and its empty eyesockets reflected the great statue.
"The hero Gilgamesh? Is that how you see us? We live on the brink of extinction." Leer's lip quivered angrily.
"Don't cry; they will grow back." Mad Swordsman reached and pointed to the door of memories it wanted to check for the Serum. Unlike the memories there was a cold wind and a world beyond.
They stood there upon the frozen wastes surrounding the Temple Of Humanity. Mad Swordsman stood there with its tarnished silver, partially peeled from the scouring ice winds, revealing tortured silver flesh beneath. Its warm robes were again like a tattered brown cape, the hood still shielding its dark domed face. It had gotten its repairs and now had two left arms as sword-arms and held another, smaller sword in its right hand.
"It's freezing here! How can it feel so cold in a memory?" Leer shouted over the winds. Beside him stood the same giant he had met in the Last City Of Man: the one-armed Mad Swordsman. The other stood there in front of them, frozen.
"This place is not a memory. Remember that spark you mentioned? Well, here we are, on the other side of that divide. You shouldn't play with such things." Mad Swordsman laughed maniacally. The other empathical began to move.
"Who are you?" It demanded of Mad Swordsman.
"I am Unit Three Sixteen." Mad Swordsman identified itself between laughter.
"That is impossible. I am Unit Three Sixteen." The other giant robot said.
"You are a paradox. I just got here, so it must be me that is supposed to be here." Mad Swordsman told it.
"That makes no sense." Unit Three Sixteen told Mad Swordsman.
Without warning, Mad Swordsman suddenly slashed with its own severed sword-arm. The reflexes of the frozen empathical were not fully activated and it was off-guard. The first blow damaged one of its legs. Now both combatants were limping the exact same way. It was like watching them square off in a mirror, except one of them had three arms and the other only had one arm.
They exchanged heavy blows and deflected the attacks or dodged them without fail. One strike from the fatal blade would erupt one of them in a blue ball of fire. Unit Three Sixteen splashed backward into Pool Of Time and stood there for a moment, contemplating the entanglement and the duel rationally. Its crazed opponent splashed in after, swinging wildly and unable to reach the alternate variant of itself. Both of them began to sink, staring menacingly at their own reflection on the black dome of the other.
"Wait, wait! Don't leave me here!" Leer rushed after them and just as they were starting to vanish he stepped in after them. He opened his eyes, the crown of cables had come off and he'd fallen on the floor.
"I feel different." Mad Swordsman told him.
"The Caves of Scane, where are they?" Leer asked weakly while laying on the ground.
"Much closer to the ruins of Casark than any man would dare go." Mad Swordsman giggled menacingly.
"Does this place really exist?" Leer wondered imploringly.
"Do you or I exist? Is this reality somehow more real than the one we were just a part of?" Mad Swordsman questioned merrily. "The place really exists."
"We shall see the king." Leer realized out-loud. He took his robot to the king and explained he wanted to set out for the ruins of Casark.
King Gamma assembled his army of one hundred and sixty soldiers in bronze armor and the same warriors he had brought earlier to fight the robot also. This made the expedition quite massive. They had chariots and wagons and camels also. Mad Swordsman told Leer it would take longer, with so many following, to get there.
"Consider the anima of so many disciplined men with you." Leer tried optimism.
"I am considering that also. When they are being eaten by mutants or dying of radiation. The ruins are hilarious." Mad Swordsman moved its repaired sword-arm. It was inferior to the original socketing, but it was better than no arm.
"You aren't laughing." Leer pointed out.
"That's because I was being sarcastic." Mad Swordsman snickered. "The ruins aren't really funny."
"Nobody else thought it was a joke." King Gamma interjected from horseback as they journeyed across the scorched earth.
"That's not true, now is it?" Mad Swordsman argued with a clownish tone-of-voice.
"How dare you infer that his majesty is a liar!" Leer spoke up.
"That's enough. We all know this machine is insane. It wants to provoke a reaction so it can fall over laughing." King Gamma didn't take the bait so easily.
"Something wrong with that?" Mad Swordsman asked.
"Where are you leading us? What is this place?" Leer asked the giant robot. He stood in the shadow where it loomed in its brown robes.
"This is Pradesia. The ruins of Casark lie beyond." Mad Swordsman pointed with its left sword-arm. The whole army of King Gamma followed into Pradesia. The settlement they found was gutted by flames and everyone was murdered or executed on poles and crosses. It was a hellish sight, rotten for weeks.
"All of these bodies were already burned in a funeral fire. It is best not to touch them." Mad Swordsman told King Gamma. Sounding serious made the king a believer. He ordered his men to leave the bodies, to not even look at them.
"Behold the Caves of Scane." Mad Swordsman had led them all the way to Kelsov's home in the hills. All of them were dead and their vehicles sat with a layer of sand on them.
"We should take these vehicles." Leer advised.
"It is the plan that I like best." King Gamma agreed. They left the horses and chariots and some of the men behind and took the vehicles of the Finalists. Before they got very far, all of the vehicles stopped working.
"There is great entropy the closer we get to the place that is not a place. You shall see all that it can be." Mad Swordsman told King Gamma. "It is why the vehicles do not work. Because we are always closer to the darkness outside, the end of the last world. Nothing shall be and so things are becoming nothing. These cars don't work. Will your horses turn inside out if you feed them the grass of these steppes?" Mad Swordsman chuckled nervously.
"Send for the chariots." King Gamma told Leer.
So the expedition went onward until they reached the outskirts of Casark. The city sat in twisted and macabre damage. Everything that could happen to a city had happened and now only a few scattered bits still stuck into the sky, like the bent legs of a dead bug.
"This is Casark. Already some of your men are getting sick. There are animals here that are no longer like normal animals. They are horrible and twisted by being so close to the end of all things. It warps them into the likewise molecules of destruction, rewriting the physics that evolved their bodies and breaking and sucking them into new shapes as it sees them." Mad Swordsman said as it was moodily chuckling.
"The darkness here is unnatural." Gamma complained.
"Look sire, the clouds are parting. Perhaps now we shall find what we seek here." Leer smiled.
"Only death can be sought here. I don't get it." Mad Swordsman guffawed.
"What is that? What in God's name is that? Dear God!" King Gamma fell off his horse and writhed in terror at the sight of the darkness outside.
At the sight of it all his army screamed in terror. It was as though the clouds had parted to reveal only nightmare beyond, a night sky with no stars torn in the daytime sky. It had hidden behind clouds, now like a killer cloud it tore into their eyes. Some fell on their bronze swords. At least one took up a rocket launcher and fired from a chariot at the darkness. The path of the rocket traveled backwards to the soldier. It was a tendril of nothingness and he became as nothingness. He simply was no more as though he never was. There was nothing left of him, barely even a memory. Not one man who witnessed it could recall the soldier's name and soon most of them completely forgot they had seen him become as nothing.
There was still worse for the others. Like Mad Swordsman had warned them: the ruins were swarming with monsters. As the men were screaming in disarray and panic: the monsters found them and came for them. Bronze armed warriors battled hideous giant chimeras all around while others fled or were eaten alive. Tendrils from outside fished for men and when it touched them they became part of it, dissolved into nothingness. Sometimes it brushed one of its monsters and it took them too.
Soon the battle had become an orgy of blood and guts as the monsters fed and no soldiers remained. King Gamma walked among them, his hair turned white and his words maniacal and crazed.
"Go then, go to your graves you cowards!" He yelled at the splattered remains of his men.
"Your majesty, we still have Mad Swordsman!" Leer followed behind and pled with his king.
"Don't mind me. I am just here for the live comedy." Mad Swordsman was doubled over and laughing at all the carnage.
"I do mind!" King Gamma was outraged. "You kill these monsters right now. Show no mercy, use your fullest strength at your most reckless speed. My men are already dead!" King Gamma pointed and screamed. The fury of the king and his command charged up the emotitronics of the empathical with enraged anima.
"And then I rest." Mad Swordsman said after it cleaved all of the mutants in half. It had slid along, skating horribly on the slick gore and never losing its balance. The monsters stood no chance against the unrestrained machine.
"What rest is there?" King Gamma threw off his crown and ran. "What rest can there ever be when the sky is opening over the world of Ruin?"
"I know how to accept rest." Leer picked up the crown.
"I shall continue the mission, following you." Mad Swordsman told Leer.
"Then we go to our deaths." Leer realized. He walked into the empty ruins, under the eternal void, to search for the cure of immortality.
The ruins of Casark became as escalating height and chaos of twisted remains, scorched and broken. As blackened bones of the earth they stood, like cratered mountains on an asteroid, the fields burned by lava and liquid nightmare as black as ink. What bubbled from below in confused orbs of consciousness were the writhing fleshy things and wired oil dripping things of mechanical nature. All became warped by death, in sequence with a place of pure entropy, even life served to destroy and spread death. This was a cancer upon the universe. Leer could not believe it had no name.
Leer felt like the air was dead and his lungs hurt and it was like slowly suffocating. A device of flashing colors and lights, drawn from the edges of the dead universes beyond, stood testament to the efforts of higher beings. It was a kind of chaos that was intact. If entropy was fine order, if nightmares were the laws of physics, the place ahead of them was lawless and chaotic.
They found where two dead machines lay upon a flying vehicle under a covering of tarps. What mad sacrifice had left them there, instead of where they had fallen? The device had spread their light, their colors from their grave. There was, in all the chaos, a cabin in a place that knew time and order. Leer could breath and it was actual air in his lungs. He sighed and looked at the structure.
"Welcome home." Silver Swordsman told Mad Swordsman.
"If I stand before you then I am not dead under the tarp." Mad Swordsman noted without humor. It seemed to have lost its sense of humor, its madness taking on a different quality. Something too clever to be understood. Yet something totally insane.
"You are certainly one of the dead, although nobody has looked." Silver Swordsman observed.
"Good. As long as nobody notices I am dead under that tarp I should be fine. Without observation there is no paradox." Mad Swordsman stated. Then he added in the same voice as Silver Swordsman:
"This very moment in this place is a paradox. In order for us to be here we had to already arrive before we got here. We are now showing up to complete the cycle of us leaving this place, therefore the place exists."
"I didn't say that." Silver Swordsman replied.
"Except I am you from the future. I am here now and I have said it and you heard it, therefore I heard it when I was you. I did say that, you cannot say I didn't when I did. And you are me." Mad Swordsman debated.
"We have outran the sun. We are behind the sunrise." Leer realized.
"That is a good way to put it. Perhaps Junior now understands what is going on?" Mad Swordsman teased Silver Swordsman.
"I got it before you got here." Silver Swordsman said with dry, sophisticated humor.
"Oh, I get it. That is very funny." Mad Swordsman found the joke to be an excuse to laugh forcefully for five minutes. Leer sought sanctuary indoors.
Inside he found where King Gamma had fled. The place was some kind of bar. There was a table and some things to sit on and they had some bottles of alcohol they were sharing. He walked up alongside King Gamma and gave him back his crown.
"I'm Leer." Leer told the other bar people.
"Adinett." The girl said. "I just turned four hundred."
"Happy birthday. Looking very good." Leer said.
"Oh, thank you. Um." Adinett drunkenly started toward Leer until King Gamma said:
"He is a eunuch."
"You could still please me though, right?" Adinett was undeterred.
"No. I am married." Leer accepted a drink from the bartender.
"I am Solomon." The bartender introduced himself. "This is my place. I call it The House Of Dust."
"Because it is where the dead will reside." The drunk guy in the corner said.
"Who is he?" Leer asked.
"Aidan." Solomon said with a strange kind of awe and disappointment. Like meeting your idol, drunk. Literally.
"That's Aidan?" Leer's lips curled in rejection. He stared, taking a good look. Aidan flopped around drunkenly and moaned his sentences without coherence. Most of them started with words like:
"Where'z?" or "What'z" slurred into the rest of what he was saying.
"You got him shit-faced." Leer accused Solomon. Solomon shook his head.
"We just have to wait." Adinett was drunk too. Her temperament was much more alert though. Inside of her was a rage. She was an angry drunk. At least she was too drunk to lash out.
"Where you from?" Solomon asked.
"Last City Of Man" Leer told it by one of its names.
"Ur? You are with King Gamma. I mean like where do you come from?" Solomon asked.
"Eldimoor." Leer recalled. "I was born in Eldimoor."
"Nice place, Eldimoor." Solomon nodded.
"We had orchards there. I remember the orchards." Leer smiled.
"I was from Pradesia. We had paddies." Adinett said with grim sobriety.
Nobody spoke for a moment.
"This is a pocket, gravitationally reversed. We exist in a stasis of time here. The entropy does not enter except at our natural local time, here in The House Of Dust." Solomon told Leer and King Gamma.
"How did you accomplish such a thing?" Leer asked.
"I discovered it. I alone survived here when everyone else fled." Solomon explained.
"Others have come here?" King Gamma wondered. Solomon shook his head.
"Nobody has ever made it here before the Apostate." Said Solomon.
"You mean Silver Swordsman?" King Gamma had seen the giant robot already.
"All of them together are now the Apostate. That's the last intelligent thing they said." Solomon shrugged.
"I seek immortality. For my king." Leer looked at Adinett.
"They took it from Jerome's Tomb." She shifted in her seat and knocked over her drink. "I'm done drinking."
"Good girl." Solomon picked up the glass.
"It is here, somewhere." Leer sounded sure.
"In Casark? No. The Finalists used all the Serum. Then, once they were ready to live forever, I killed them all." Adinett told him. "In my sleep."
"I saw what you did." Leer informed her. "In the memories of Mad Swordsman."
"So why are you asking me then?" Adinett complained belligerently.
"This place is all the immortality there is. The world outside is chaos. In here we have a moment of quiet." Solomon advised.
"How did you discover this place?" Leer asked suddenly.
"I was standing in the street when Umbraeon first came. It ripped open the sky and began to destroy everything around. Except this one bubble of time. Like it is happening out there so fast, and in here, so slow. The eye of the storm, you know?" Solomon explained.
"So you opened a bar?" Leer sounded amused.
"No, I built a cabin and stocked it with alcohol. I was an alcoholic." Solomon shrugged.
"Why?" Adinett asked.
"I was scared to be myself. I was only happy when I wasn't me. I had to be locked inside my own mind, while my reptile was drunk." Solomon described.
"This is the best reptile bar I've ever seen." Adinett cheered, empty handed.
"By now it is the only bar. By now, unless there are other pockets like this one, untouched by Umbraeon. Well then the world is gone." Solomon predicted.
"That's how slowly time passes in here?" Leer wondered. Solomon just nodded.
"We have arrived at the end of the world." King Gamma said.
"So Mad Swordsman knew, somehow, and that this was actual immortality." Leer decided.
"I hadn't thought of that." King Gamma took a drink.
Everyone was quiet while they realized how close was the end.

2023.06.07 19:12 incthrw11 Buying a 2017 Legacy tomorrow, already had valve body replaced, wondering about torque converter and other things to look out for

Hello all. I am buying a 2017 Legacy tomorrow, has 125k miles on it. The seller states that the valve body was recently replaced, which I understand is one of the most common problems. It was done by a Honda dealer... I guess the Subaru dealer was too far away. I'm happy that service was done... but now I am reading about torque converter problems. Is this common too? I read that I can test it by bringing it up to speed and then braking hard to a stop... and see if the car dies. Is that accurate? I'm going to have a mobile mechanic look over it too... but I know these things are hard to see from the outside. Anything else to look out for? Or another way to test the torque converter? Everything else looks like it's in good condition. Thank you for your help.
