2023.05.30 22:14 EquivalentVermicelli Bike-touring NYC for 3-4 hours on Saturday morning - route recommendations welcome!

Coming up from DC early Saturday to meet someone to drive back down. Meeting them early afternoon as they're coming down from Mt Kisco. Thinking of bringing my commuter bike (as opposed to kitting up with my road bike) to boot around for a few hours to explore the city.
I proposed meeting them at the 181st St subway station, as it's just off the I-95 to pick me up and proceed on the drive back to DC.
I'll be arriving by train at Penn Station 9 am on Sat morning. I mapped out the following based on some suggestions here on reddit:
google.com/maps/diPennsylvania+Station,+New+York,+NY+10119/Coney+Island,+Brooklyn,+NY/Prospect+Park,+Brooklyn,+NY/800+West+181st+Street,+New+York,+NY/@40.8461649,-74.0149461,11.84z/data=!4m31!4m30!1m10!1m1!1s0x89c259ae15b2adcb:0x7955420634fd7eba!2m2!1d-73.993519!2d40.750568!3m4!1m2!1d-74.034168!2d40.6407286!3s0x89c24fffa8718e65:0x1ccf4a06fbb6f594!1m5!1m1!1s0x89c24448979d75cb:0x54745adc3c8f1179!2m2!1d-73.9707016!2d40.5755438!1m5!1m1!1s0x89c25b1087680443:0x178bf7c600df7a98!2m2!1d-73.9689558!2d40.6602037!1m5!1m1!1s0x89c2f6a0e404f6c9:0x621fe7d6fea40e64!2m2!1d-73.9385593!2d40.8508458!3e1!5m1!1e3?entry=ttu
I've visited NYC a few times and enjoy finding good (and cheap hole in the wall!) eats and exploring interesting neighborhoods... No need to do any typical touristy things.
Any other sights/routes that might be worth checking out?

Yosemite Itinerary June 1st - June 4th - Thoughts Please :)
I got great feedback on my previous post regarding my Glacier Point question, so I redid my groups itinerary. Does this look like a solid plan given the parks trail/road closures? I tried to make it logistically make sense based on parking lots in proximity to trail heads and what not. We're staying in Oakhurst, so our plan is to be up around 5am Fri-Sun to hit the road and get to the park as early as possible. Saturday is a little "bare" because one of our days was supposed to be exploring trail heads off of Glacier Point Rd. I've axed the idea of 4-mile trail since that will likely still be closed.
Anything else you all would recommend we check out? My assumption is we'll run into other things near the main stuff we're doing each day.
*Ignore the colors. The colors deal with our flights in and out of Fresno for different days, which aren't in the screenshot.

2023.05.30 21:55 foodconcerns Can older teens order smaller meals or meals from the children's menu in the Efteling restaurants?

Excuse my bad English, it's not my first language.
Hoi! I'm a 17 y. o. boy who unfortunately fell into the world of disordered eating/eating disorders some time ago. I'm a bit better now, I've stopped using a calorie counting app and gotten into a better mindset but it's still tough. I sometimes have small crying fits or go into panic because I ate too much, which is why I'm here.
My family is visiting Efteling soon. Our stay is 4 days long. I'm very excited, except for the food part. We'll probably go to the restaurants in the park (Pinokkio's, Polles, maybe even Raveleijn) for dinner if we have time during the day and if we don't, we'll eat at the hotel's restaurant. So, can I, a 17 year old, order kids' meals at the restaurants in Efteling? Or can they make smaller meals?
I'm asking because if someone brings a big plate of food to me, I'll devour the whole thing. I simply can't not eat it all. But then when I do clean the plate, I fall into panic because, well, I overate. It's not fun so I'd rather avoid the whole situation by just ordering a smaller meal. And honestly, a tornado potato and chicken Raveleijn style? Sounds absolutely delicious. Heart shaped pancake with fruit? Love it. Call me childish and I will not care because to me, children's meals are superior and not only from the "they don't make me have meltdowns" standpoint.
Recommendations on lunch places are also appreciated! The chat bot told me some places have "magical mushrooms" as their menu thingies, could someone explain what they are, exactly?
Thanks in advance!

Your cheat sheet on... NFT bear market

NFT space may seem like a jigsaw puzzle. NFT Cheats is a series of newsletters that helps you put the pieces together.
NFT Cheats by Rarible is a newsletter that explores the very pillars the NFT space stands on. Think of those as the NFT World-bearing turtles (or Apes).
It’s called NFT Cheats because each newsletter is designed as a cheat sheet that brings you up to speed on a given niche within the NFT space.
NFT bear market is the third subject in the series. The previous issues covered Historical NFTs and NFT Security. To put together a cheat sheet on today’s topic, we talked to wale.swoosh, researcher-in-residence at Azuki and a self-described ‘Director of Threads’ on NFT Twitter.
Wale got into NFTs in early 2021 after hearing about them on Gary Vee’s Instagram. He joined Twitter a few months after that to become a better trader as he realized that NFT Twitter plays a big role in that. Wale quickly fell in love with the community, and started sharing his own thoughts on the timeline, quickly becoming one of the most popular NFT content writers known for his in-depth threads.
DO NOT treat any of the information below as financial advice, and do your own research (DYOR) before buying into any asset.
The interview has been edited and condensed, meaning the content below is attributed to the guest expert, but shouldn’t be treated as a direct quote.

What does a bear market mean for NFTs?

A bear market in Web3 is usually marked by a general flattening of interest in the space. Fewer new people join, and some people who were in Web3 leave.
That leads to a crash in prices, teams stop developing, and the sentiment in the space is generally bad because everyone is fighting for the crumbs of a shrinking pie.
If you look at it historically, bear markets are always caused by an external macro influence. We’ve had several bear markets in crypto since the industry emerged, and this seems to be the first major bear market for NFTs specifically since they hit the mainstream in 2021.
The current bear market started around Q2 2022, and of course we just can’t know when it will end exactly. But I'm positive that it will be followed by a bull cycle.
During this bear market, we’ve seen projects shed around 70-90% of their floor prices. At this point, it might be hard to believe that certain NFTs were trading at 3-10x their current floor price.
Moonbirds' historical floor price, as shown by NFTpricefloor.com
There are several reasons behind that grand fall. First, a lot of people have simply left the space. According to recent numbers, there are around 7,000 active traders left. When you have a few thousand people creating and trading maybe millions of NFTs… the supply/demand ratio gets crazy. When the demand is low, the floor price will follow.
Projects themselves also play a role in this. Without naming any specific ones, we have many teams that have made major strategic mistakes in recent months. In fact, I don't think there are blue chips anymore in the space, outside of the top 3-4 most successful collections.
Then we had ETH volatility, the memecoin season, Blur experimenting with some trading mechanics — all of that have also not been good for the floor prices across the board.
The most important thing for the NFT space at the moment is to get more people in, because when you have 7k traders, it's really hard to run a successful project. Right now, holders are basically playing hot potato with each other. As to how we might onboard more people — that's a whole other topic.

NFTs are dead. Long live NFTs!

People who say NFTs are dead are partly right.
Most projects are indeed dead or are in the process of dying. 99% of them won't come out of this bear market because they just don't have what it takes. Those who will come out, however, will come out stronger.
Having said that, NFTs as a technology will never ever die because it brings so much innovation to areas like gaming and digital ownership, for example.

Metas, or why there's always a "shiny thing" in NFTs

To better understand the nature of the NFT market, it's useful to understand the role metas play in it.
Meta is a certain pattern that we see emerge (most of the time suddenly) and disappear (that also tends to happen quite quickly) in the NFT space.
A meta can last anywhere from a few days to months. A good example would be the open edition meta we saw a few months ago started by Jack Butcher’s Checks. Once it became clear that Checks are doing good, we saw all those other projects doing open editions, mostly following the same pattern/concept…
At the time, the majority of the content on the NFT Twitter timeline was about open editions. Initially, when a new meta emerges, it starts to generate/feed off hype— everyone wants to be a part of this new exciting thing, and ultimately make some money from it (be it trading, engagement farming, or both).
It’s hard to put a finger on what exactly makes a meta pop off, but once it gets going, it spreads fast.
Wale's thread on metas (click on the pic to read)
You have to realize that sooner or later, every meta always disappears. The people who are invested in it often think (or want you to think) that it’s here forever, but in reality there's always the next shiny thing a few weeks later that people will go chasing after, forgetting about the one that preceded it.
That being said, the OG projects that start metas—like Checks, for example—often keep at least some of their relevance, while most other unoriginal projects who were just trying to copy them vanish.
Besides metas, there’s also culture. Culture is a more fundamental kind of thing. Sometimes it's hard to differentiate: is this new thing more transitory and based on short-term attention, or is it here to actually stay, setting a new standard for the space for years to come?
There weren’t many events that actually revolutionized the industry, like what Yuga Labs did when they airdropped the serums for the MAYC collection, the distribution trick many projects adapted later on. But those usually come around in a more subtle manner.
So normally when every week you have people saying “oh, that's the new thing, it will change the space forever for years to come” and are super vocal about it, it’s almost never the case.
The attention span in this space is incredibly short, and people tend to put most of their attention into things that are ‘meta’ at the moment.
Will traditional brands kick off the next bull?
There are a few examples of traditional brands doing a good job with their web3 initiatives, Gucci and Adidas specifically come to mind. But you and I would probably have a hard time naming 10 successful web2 companies who came into the web3 space, so we haven't seen that unfold just yet.
When it comes to getting new people into NFTs, major brands could be one way to do it — when people see a trusted brand, they might want to get involved, as they’re more likely to trust a brand they already know.
It’s a two-way street: when more people in general will get interested in NFTs, web2 brands will likely have an easier time onboarding people as well.
It also depends on which audience the specific brand wants to address. When you want to get into the hardcore NFT community, you better understand web3 culture and be part of it so your activation doesn't feel forced—the infamous Pepsi and Budweiser exchange on Twitter became a meme for a reason. But at the same time, as more legacy brands will come in, the focus might shift away from the core NFT community to retail users.
And when more retail comes in and NFT becomes more adopted as a technology, it is likely that the end user won’t realize that they are interacting with the blockchain or even that they’re buying an NFT. It will be more subtle, and the majority of retail users probably won't be creating wallets and trading NFTs on OpenSea/BluRarible per se.
Nike’s .swoosh is another good example of a web2 x web3 crossover—when you sign up there, you don't even know that you are minting an NFT. I think that's a good approach to bringing more people in, because right now the blockchain infrastructure is still very complicated for new people.
At the moment, if you know nothing about web3, blockchain or crypto in general, the learning curve is just too steep: you have to go through the process of creating your own wallet and writing down a 24-word seed phrase, buying and swapping tokens, sometimes bridging—all that just to get an NFT you want. So in regards to mainstream adoption, it will be crucial to build platforms, infrastructure and tools that will be intuitive even for people who are not crypto NFT natives.
Is it a good time to enter the NFT space?
It's a good time to take your time.
Let’s be honest: If you’re coming into the NFT space right now, there's a very high chance that you will immediately leave. The bear market vibes are really difficult to handle for a newcomer.
When you go on NFT Twitter these days, there’s so much toxicity, shilling and hate going on… It's really terrible. Then you have short term metas where some people make money and tweet about it nonstop while the silent majority loses money. Of course if you're a newcomer and most of your timeline is talking about how this thing is pumping and they’ve already made 100x on it, you’ll want to join in. The meta will then move on, and most likely you’ll lose money. I think that's driving a lot of people away from our space.
But a bear market is actually a great opportunity to learn about NFTs. For me, the ideal way to start in the NFT space is to make a Twitter account, and get involved in NFT Twitter by following some trusted people and just spending time reading their takes, maybe participating in some discussion. And then when you feel comfortable about what you know and feel like you can make informed decisions, then maybe start buying your first NFT or minting your first NFTs (always with the money you can afford to lose).
Rarible Bear Pass, the free open edition mint that generated 683.5k copies
As for choosing which projects to join, I recommend looking at the team behind it. That’s what it is all about in Web 3. When you have a team that's emerged into the space and is actually building for the community, that's a massive green flag. Invest in people you personally believe in. To me, the team is way more important than the art/roadmap because if you don't have a team that's able to execute, you can have the best roadmap but the project won't be successful.
But please remember that in web3 it can all change within weeks or even days. This space is moving extremely fast, and that hasn’t changed even during the bear market.
And if you're already in the NFT space, it’s a good time to build. When you have a project is a good time to build in silence so you are ready for the next bull market—and I am positive that it will happen.

2023.05.30 21:45 GiganticSurferRosa Accidentally purchased the wrong Luminous wheels off eBay. I don't know if I should try to resell them or just use them.

So I idiotically purchased Luminous 100A wheels instead of the 85A wheels from a seller who was selling both types on eBay. I placed an offer, and it auto-accepted even before I realized my mistake. I just wanted to use them for fun (not as primary) wheels in both an indoor and outdoor setting. Plus, I'm still a newb so I don't know how I'd even do with 100A wheels on rink floors since I primarily skate on bball courts/work parking lot/my garage.
So my questions are:
1) Would I even be able to use the 100A's outdoors or is that a terrible idea (really rough ride)?
2) If I do decide to keep them and not resell, how slick will these be in an indoor rink when I've never had experience on harder wheels? Am I going to eat it at the rink?

2023.05.30 21:43 MentalUniversity Ack, the train keeps calling to me! ;)

What is it with the allure of train travel? I'm seriously thinking about another Amtrak trip. I've been on the CZ twice. The first trip was pretty darn awesome although with some pros and cons. Pros...great SCA, amazing views, and the novelty of my first train ride. Cons...dining car staff was rude and toilets were out of order part of the trip. Second trip wasn't quite so nice, maybe because it was my 2nd one? Pros...dining car staff was amazing on that one, but that was outweighed by the cons. SCA was nowhere to be found, toilet issues were worse (including smells in the car), train was fully booked with children running up and down the aisles, family (or groups) calling to each other from roomette to roomette...
But...I kind of loved the whole process. Definitely don't mind delays, the kind of grunginess that's part of the cars, the noise of them (except the people noise...definitely don't like feeling like I'm at an amusement park or something), etc. I like the forced downtime due to spotty cellular, no WiFi, watching scenery go by, etc. I even like the "non-iconic" scenery, as in, I don't mind watching graffitied buildings, miles and miles of farmland, etc.
I posted on this subreddit asking for route suggestions, but I'm going to ask again. I can pretty easily fly into Chicago, Orlando, or Tampa. I don't want to do a cross country again right now (so not CZ or the Empire Builder). I'd like the trip to be long enough to be o/n because I like the privacy of a roomette. I don't much care what the final destination is because I honestly won't spend more than a night there. For me, it really *is* about the train ride and not the things to see in the city. I'd also like it to be a "start to finish" train (not sure what to call it). As in, I don't want 1 train from point A to B, then have to get a different one from B to C, and then a bus to somewhere else, etc.
Suggestions?

2023.05.30 21:41 Sola_Sista_94 Kokichi Time: Part One (Fanfic)

"C'mon, c'mon, c'mon..." Kokichi muttered with concentration as he played one of his favorite games, "Seven Nights At Frank-o's," a video game about surviving a whole week as a security guard at an amusement park while avoiding deadly animatronic clowns. He was doing well until one of the clowns came out of nowhere and jumpscared him.

"SHIT!!" he screamed in frustration. Suddenly he heard a knock on his door. "It's open!" he briefly called out as he continued to focus on the game. Himiko entered the room with excitement.

"Nyeh...hi, Kokichi!" she said, wrapping her arms around him.

"Hey, babe," Kokichi muttered without looking at her.

"What'cha doin?'" Himiko asked, kissing his cheek.

"Playing 'Seven Nights At Frank-o's,'" Kokichi mumbled.

"I think I got something better than that!" Himiko exclaimed cheerfully.

"Pfff...nothing is better than this," Kokichi replied, keeping his eyes glued to the screen.

"Nyeh...how about these?! " Himiko said, pulling out two tickets from her pocket. "Two tickets to...DeepBlueSea World, the biggest aquarium/ocean-themed amusement park this side of Japan!"

"Does it involve killer animatronic clowns?" Kokichi asked.

"Um...no."

"Then, nah," Kokichi replied, briefly shaking his head. Himiko slumped her shoulders in sadness.

"Kokichi..." she mumbled. "Don't you wanna hang out with me, anymore?" Kokichi looked at her, then paused his game. He stood up and faced her.

"Well...Himiko," he began. "Listen, don't take this the wrong way, but...we do almost everything together, y'know? We eat together, go to school together, play pranks on people, and go on magic quests together..."

"Yeah?" Himiko said in a small voice with a small shrug.

"Basically, we're always together," Kokichi concluded.

"Well...yeah," Himiko said. "We're boyfriend and girlfriend. I thought we always do things together."

"And don't get me wrong, it's fun," Kokichi said, giving Himiko a comforting pat on the shoulder. "But...every once in a while, I just need some Kokichi time, y'know?"

"Oh, but...what about DeepBlueSea World?" Himiko asked quietly. "I really thought you wanted to go." Kokichi shrugged in thought.

"Well...I'm sure you can find someone else to go with you," he said. "What about Tenko? I'm pretty sure she'd love to go with you!" Himiko shook her head sadly.

"No, Tenko opened up a training class for her Neo-Aikido," she replied.

"Oh..." Kokichi mumbled, rubbing his arm uncomfortably.

"Nyeh...I guess I could bring Sonia with me," Himiko suggested. "She hasn't been to DeepBlueSea World, and it is a popular attraction in Japan."

"Hey, yeah! That's a great idea, Himiko!" Kokichi exclaimed. "I'm sure she'd love that!"

"Yeah...okay..." Himiko replied, trying to give him a smile, but she felt too upset to do so. She shuffled towards the door, when Kokichi gently grabbed her shoulder.

"Aw, come on, HimiCocoa Bean, don't be sad! It's only for today," he said. "Hey, we're still going to the movies on Friday, right? For the premiere of '13 Going On 14?'" Himiko brightened a little, and gave Kokichi a small smile.

"Yeah...yeah, you're right," she said. Kokichi smiled back and hugged her, squishing his cheek against hers as he did so.

"Cool!" Kokichi replied. "Well...see ya later, Monkey Buns," he said, ruffling her hair.

"Bye, Kokichi," Himiko replied, waving goodbye. Kokichi waved back to her as Himiko closed the door.

"M'kay, back to the clowns!" Kokichi mumbled excitedly to himself as he picked up the controller and resumed his game. Outside the door, Himiko sighed sadly, but forced herself to cheer up.

"Nyeh...he said it's only for today," she said to herself. She took a deep breath and headed over to 7th Island House. She knocked on the door, and Mikan answered.

"Hello, Himiko," she said in her usual small, mousy voice.

"Hi, Mikan," Himiko replied. "Is Sonia home?"

"S-Sonia? Y-Yes, let me get her for you," Mikan answered, then dashed away to retrieve Sonia. A few seconds later, Sonia appeared in the doorway.

"Himiko! Hello! How are you doing?" she asked cheerfully.

"I'm okay, I guess," Himiko said.

"Do you need my assistance with anything?" Sonia asked.

"In a way," Himiko said. "I need you to assist me on a trip to DeepBlue Sea World." Sonia's eyes lit up and sparkled with joy.

"Oh, my!" she exclaimed. "I have never been there before! I think a day at DeepBlueSea World would be...fire!"

"Nyeh...no cap," Himiko replied with a small smile. Sonia giggled.

"Fo' sho!'" Sonia said.

"It'll be the bomb-diggity," Himiko added. Her smile grew bigger.

"It's gon' be phat!" Sonia said, throwing her arms out in front of her.

"Tight!" Himiko said, throwing her arms out and bending her knees.

"Lit, bruh!" Sonia said, pointing at Himiko.

"Off the chain!" Himiko said, pointing back at her.

"Fresh to def, yo!" they both said in unison before bursting out into fits of giggles.

"Himiko, I was not aware that you also knew cool words," Sonia said with a large, happy smile.

"Well...some of those are pretty outdated," Himiko admitted. "Nyeh...but they're still fun to say."

"Mos' def!" Sonia agreed. "Well, shall we go, then?"

"Yes...let's," Himiko replied with a smile. Sonia smiled back at her as the two walked together to the bus stop.

2023.05.30 21:28 lancea9999 What caused my 2023 Pilot to turn off on its own while in park for 15 mins? (I don’t think this was auto stop/ start kicking in)

Have had the new pilot elite for a month and took it on its first longer trip this weekend. We were stopped at McDs and were eating in the car (dog + hot weather + very young kids… you probably know the drill if you have a pilot). The car was left on in park with us and the keys all remaining in the car. After 15 mins or so the car just turned off. I wasn’t aware of any intentional feature that would cause this but am having a hard time searching for answers without the results all being about the auto stop/start function. Does anyone know why this would have happened? Appreciate any help or insight on this issue. Auto stop/start was disabled when this happened in case relevant

2023.05.30 21:24 Natural-Mix-2676 I have a secured loan and my collateral is no longer in good condition? What can I do and how can I get rid of it?

Hi everyone,
So to place all of you readers in context, I’m in NJ and I took out a secured loan about a year ago with one main financial using my car as a collateral (Which means they take possession of the title) but I still get to keep using my car.
Unfortunately, my car has been failing lately and it is now in the obsolete old side (13 years old), which makes it rather quite expensive and not worth it to fix at all due to the high high mileage it has.
As a result, I’m not even using my car at all anymore and it’s just parked in my mom’s driveway, which she is now pushing me to get rid of because she needs the space.
I also need to mention that I have a couple of credit card debts which I’m still trying to pay off( not using them at all as well) and my credit score is tanking since I’ve struggled to pay them off. So refinancing is not an option for me.
In conclusion, I need to get rid of my car but I have no idea of what I could possibly do. Also, this debt is eating me alive.
Can I junk it without a title and not get in trouble or sell it for parts? Will notifying the bank about it make any difference?
Also, what’s the best possible way out of this shithole? I feel like it’s getting deeper with no way out. I’ve been considering bankruptcy and just start out fresh but don’t know the implications or consequences of it.
Thank you for reading and any comments with ideas and/or suggestions are much appreciated. Just wanted to see if anyone has had a similar experience and how you made it out.

2023.05.30 21:19 BuleRendang Suggestions on peaceful & less touristy spots to work on physical and mental health

Hi friends,
I'll likely be traveling to Southeast Asia in August & September and would love to hear some suggestions for my trip I'm in the early stages of planning. One of those months i'll be in Indonesia, visiting friends and traveling rural Sumatra. The other month I want to park myself in one or two places and work on my fitness, both mental and physical. Leaning towards Thailand, possibly Laos, for that.
I'm in my late 30's with extensive travel experience and I'd really like to see a side of Thailand a bit less touristy. Truly love Thai culture, food and people. I last visited Thailand 10ish years ago for a few months....Wonderful experience all around. Visited many of the well known spots but really loved the places bit more off the tourist trail such as Khon Kaen and Chiang Khan among other spots in the north I can't seem to recall. I don't believe I've been to Issan province, or maybe just touched it, but I'm greatly interested in exploring that.
I started boxing as a workout here in America recently and enjoy the workouts so much I would be interested in spending my days training at a Muay Thai Boxing gym, which i know is popular with tourists. Only interested in fitness and dropping some weight, not actually fighting. Working on meditation and healthy eating is also something I really want to focus on.
I went to Pai a decade ago and while I loved it i'm reading its way too crowded now and August would be a brutal month weather wise. Still very open to it though. Things change so fast and haven't been there in 10 years I know Thailand is probably a different world now. If anyone could throw a suggestion or two my way i'd really appreciate it as I start my research.
Few other things i'm looking for, though i'm realistic I won't hit them all:
-- Small city or town or village welcoming for white American who does not speak Thai to live in. Happy and comfortable being the only foreigner around if need be and will certainly be very respectful to local customs. The size of Pai about 10 years ago was about perfect for me, haha. -- A good boxing gym / fitness club / meditation retreat to park myself at for a few weeks to a month -- Not interested in partying, i'm sure i'll have a few fun nights in Bangkok
--Not a beach person at all. LOVE northern Thailand more than south, but open to all suggestions. Colder weather & mountains are for me all the way.
--Beyond Thailand, would love to hear any suggestions you might have for the region in general, Laos in particular. Also visited 10 years ago and loved the country.
Appreciate any helpful suggestions!
Khob Khun 😊

2023.05.30 21:18 bigweeduk Where to go eat good local food with family?

Me, wife and 2 children (2 &5 yes old), arrived a couple of nights ago, and staying in Schiedam
Anyone got recommendations for where we can eat some good local food, ideally child friendly?
We drove to a couple areas in Rotterdam West today to find some breakfast, but couldn't find anything except busy cafes which didn't have much space and had long wait times. Also, the parking meter wouldn't accept my card or Google Pay, so didn't want to get fined by taking too long anywhere
Anyone got any recommendations for tomorrow? Breakfast or lunch times are best, but we need to be back at the hotel about 6pm to get children to bed, so anything Upto then is okay too

2023.05.30 21:12 MjolnirPants Jerry and the Goddesses: Part 33

Part 32 on HFY
"I think I found it," I said, knowing that Inanna and Sarisa could hear me. A second later, Sarisa popped into existence next to me. "Huh," she said.
The map she'd shared with the rest of us showed a single row of houses fronting the natural area, but I could clearly see the roof of a building, set far back from the homes amid the trees. A wide driveway with the single white line they used here to differentiate traffic lanes emerged from between two properties with a gate closed over it.
A sign hung from the gate, unreadable with all the bullet holes in it, but the operating hours at the bottom were unmistakable. This wasn't another home, but some sort of public-fronting establishment. "I definitely have no knowledge of this building. I think you've got it."
"Will you get the others?" I asked. Sarisa smiled and vanished again. A few minutes later, Gary and Kathy emerged from around a corner with Sarisa.
"Where's Ana?" Gary asked as they approached.
"She peed herself," I said.
"What?" Gary face scrunched up and I laughed. "You heard me."
"Well, how the hell did that happen?"
I shrugged. "The usual way, I guess. She's been telling me about getting tired and feeling confused on a repeating schedule and having to make an effort to return to her usual health. I suggested she try staying hydrated, because it sounded like dehydration that she was describing. So she started hydrating and..."
"And she forgot to go tinkle," Gary grinned. I winked at him, and then noticed Sarisa giving me a look. I responded with a "what do you expect?" gesture, and she sighed and shook her head. Sarisa never liked it when I told little white lies, even though it turns out she's told a few, herself.
Inanna emerged from the closest home, then. She was still in the same khakis and unbuttoned-most-of-the-way outfit she'd worn in, but she was dry now. "It wasn't pee," she announced.
Gary looked back and forth between us, eyebrows raised. "Okay...."
Kathy suddenly smirked and turned away. Well, damn, that was quick. I had to remember not to underestimate her.
"It doesn't matter," I said, "Look." I pointed to the gate. "That has to be the museum."
"Well, whatta we waitin fer?" Gary asked and walked over to check the padlock on the gate. He gave it a quick look, then took off his pack and dug around for a second, producing a pair of smallish bolt-cutters. He lined them up on the lock's hook and, with a quick jerk, brought the jaws down on it. The padlock fell to the ground with a clatter and Gary opened the gate wide enough to walk in.
We all followed him in through the gate and he pulled it shut and used a rock to wedge it in place. Up the long drive, we found a small parking lot and another shot-up sign. But this one had the words "museum" and "north" still readable in Armenian printed on it, so if we'd had any doubts during the walk up, they were gone.
Inanna simply magicked open the locked front door and we walked in. We split up, wandering the halls and searching the various rooms an exhibits. I moved down a hall with prints of medieval paintings of vikings and little placards describing the circumstances of the original painting as well as the events portrayed. The first three doors I found were bathrooms and a closet. The last entrance had no door in the frame, and it led to a room full of weapons.
A few actual viking-age and earlier weapons sat in glass cases in the middle, with reproductions bolted to the walls. Apparently, the museum was family-friendly, because foam versions of the weapons were stacked in an umbrella stand in one corner.
As I was returning to check another hall, I heard Kathy's voice "I think I got it!"
I followed the sound through a few rooms and found her and the others gathered around a small glass display case on a pedestal in the middle of a room whose walls were bedecked with paintings, both ancient and modern, of Norse Pagan religious subjects. Squeezing between Inanna and Gary, I saw it.
It was just like the last one, except the teeth were arranged slightly differently.
"So can we just, like, take it?" Kathy asked Sarisa. Sarisa shook her head, "Not without interfering with the magic. We have to share secrets again."
We all looked around at each other. This was actually getting more difficult, as we were a pretty tight group. We simply didn't have a lot of secrets. I broke the ice.
"When I was in my junior year, I stole three books from the college library, because they wouldn't let me check them out."
Kathy snickered. "I bet that's the worst thing you've ever done, too."
I turned towards her. "They were three volumes of a history of video games. The nineteen eighties through the two-thousands. I still have them in my closet." Kathy laughed and held out a hand for a fist bump. I gave it to her, unsure of why that would be fist-bump-worthy until she said "I figured they'd be dense academic works on some obscure aspect of history. Or maybe porn."
"The second volume covered erotic games," I admitted, "but there weren't a lot of titillating images, unless a screenshot from Custer's Last Stand is the sort of thing you find sexy."
I felt an easing in the tension of the room which I hadn't recognized until that moment. It had worked. Inanna spoke up next. "I'm keeping the baby," she said.
Everyone looked at her. Sarisa spoke first, "Sister, that is possibly the least-secret secret I've ever heard of. I don't think any of have had any doubt that you would keep the child you made with the man you love."
Inanna turned to me, "Did you know?" I shrugged. "I never really considered that you'd end the pregnancy. It would be very out of character for you."
"And you're okay with that?" she asked me? "Of course," I replied immediately. "Why wouldn't I be?"
She wrapped her arms around me and leaned her head against my chest. I smiled. This was nice, Inanna showing affection without being all grabby.
"I'm going to have to think about it for a minute, then."
Gary took a deep breath. His face clouded for a moment, and then he cleared his throat.
"I killed two civilian boys in Rukha, in Afghanistan back in 2001 to stop them from alerting Taliban in the region. We were moving through some fields, coming down into the valley from the north. We needed to get to a high point that sort of split the valley, to call in some JDAMs on a couple Taliban positions down in the valley. We didn't see the boys at first, they were hiding in some bushes or something. But as we got close, they broke cover and ran. I didn't even hesitate. I knew if they made it into town or to someone with a phone, the locals would fill the streets to gawk and the Taliban would abandon their positions.
"I saw them running, had just enough time to recognize the threat, and then I shot them both in the back. Neither one was armed. Neither one was older than about twelve." His voice was rough and raw. It was obvious he was digging deep for this.
"I still sometimes have nightmares about it," he added, and then he closed his mouth and stared at the ground. I felt the tension ease a bit more.
Kathy put her hand on his shoulder and he reached up to pat it. "I abandoned my best friend throughout middle school, Maryann, because she wasn't popular enough to suit me when we got to high school," she said.
"When we started as freshmen, we both made a bunch of new friends. She had a harder time of it, just because she wasn't as sociable as I was, but she was my friend, so she kinda tagged along as we became the 'in-group'. But some of the other girls didn't like her. Maryann listened to different music than most of us, and liked different actors and dressed different. It was super petty, I know, but at the time, those things seemed important." She laughed ruefully, "Like listening to Shinedown somehow made her a bad person. Anyways, it got worse over our freshman year. When we started sophomore year, I decided to cut her loose. So I told my mom a boy was harassing me, and she changed my number. A couple of the other girls did the same. We gave each other our new numbers, but not Maryann."
Kathy sniffed and I could see moisture in her eyes.
"She just seemed so confused at first. None of us were willing to just tell her that we didn't want to be friends, so we made excuses. I told her my phone was turned off, and said that I had plans every time she wanted to hang out. When she finally figured it out, she didn't even get angry. She just, like, vanished. She stopped coming to school, and stopped eating at the diner where we always used to get burgers after school.
"After a couple of months, I started to get worried about her. So I went to her house and knocked on the door. Her mom answered and told me that Maryann didn't want to talk to me and that I should go. And that was the last I ever heard from her."
Sarisa put her arm around Kathy's shoulder and squeezed her. "It's not too late," she said, then Kathy turned into the hug and they embraced. I heard Kathy take a few shuddering breaths, and then she pulled back. "I know. And I plan to go to her, as soon as this is done. I won't take no for an answer, this time."
The tension eased further. Only the goddesses remained. Inanna had, predictably enough, managed to sneak a hand down my pants while Gary was talking, but her fondling was subdued, more of an idle fidgeting than her usual concerted attempts to arouse me. The thrill of being touched by a goddess remained, however, which is why I was keeping my mouth shut.
Sarisa broke the silence. "I slept with Astoram, once."
"What?" I choked out in unison with Inanna. Inanna jerked her hand free and spun to face Sarisa.
"I thought you said that night with Jerry was your first time."
"It was... Listen, it wasn't actually me who slept with him, but an avatar of mine who lived in my temple in Mohenjo-daro. I was experiencing everything she did, but I wasn't in control of her actions. The truth is, I wasn't even paying her much attention, and she had long since grown into her own being, making choices that sometimes surprised me. Astoram came to her in a manifestation. He pretended to be distraught after Loki had foiled one of his schemes, and he seemed to think the avatar was me in a manifestation. He played at humility, confessed that he was always jealous of how smart I am and just generally seemed remorseful, and possibly not such a bad god, once you got past his public facade.
"The avatar had been quite lonely, and had grown quite human, having lived among them for so long. So she was moved by his words and..."
"And threw him a pity fuck," Inanna said.
Sarissa nodded, "And she threw him a pity fuck, yes. Of course, that was his plan, all along. He impregnated her. He was so livid when he found out she wasn't me that I had to have Krast pin him down until he swore not to hurt the avatar. Even then, I was still so concerned for her safety that I sent her to Scandinavia to bear her son in peace."
"The avatar, that was Aelfrida?" Inanna asked. Sarisa nodded, and Inanna turned to me. "Jerry, now you three are the only people alive who knows the name of Grendel's mother."
"The baby was Grendel?" I asked, surprised. Sarisa nodded again. "Yes, and he was a lovely creature for a very long time, until that drunkard, Hrothgar built his little party shack and drove the poor thing insane with all the noise." She shook her head sadly.
The tension eased more. It was barely there. All eyes were on Inanna now. She gave us all an askance look, as if she didn't like being the center of attention.
Yeah, right.
After a moment's silence, she turned back to me and wrapped her arms around my waist. She leaned her head against my chest again and spoke, not looking at anyone.
"I've thought a lot about what we're doing and what it might entail, from a practical perspective. I've communed with Ixy on it, as well, as he's the oldest of all of us. As best I can guess, the actual method which we're trying to learn is not to kill Astoram, or even to put him back to sleep. It's to cut off his manifestation from his divinity. It would open his domain for grabs by the rest of us. I'm sure Ixy plans to seize as much of it as he can, the moment we succeed.
"I can't think of any other method of defeating him that's even remotely possible. Sarisa, you know we've discussed this." Sarisa nodded. I knew, too. I'd heard them talking about it a few times, and had a general idea of their logic. It was complex and sometimes irrational, but if you squinted just right, it sort of made sense.
The gods' divinity wasn't who they were, but a natural product of living beings interacting with the universe and each other, that occasionally grew into something so coherent and powerful that it took on a life of its own. As best I understood, Ixy was the first god. He came into being when human ancestors began really differentiating themselves from the other animals with their cleverness, a sort of reflexive kickback against said cleverness. Every time an animal did anything, a trickle of energy was added to Ixy's domain, but every time an especially smart animal followed its instincts, he got a huge jolt of power.
Eventually, all that energy coalesced into the nightmarish entity that Ixy can be if you don't know him. Because those ancestors were smart and they contributed so much, Ixy developed a literal mind of his own. A simple mind, about as intelligent as your typical chimpanzee, but with the social bonds of a dog.
As time passed and humanity evolved into its modern state, that growing intelligence that it brought flowed towards Ixy. But Ixy didn't want it. Ixy liked being Ixy. So he sequestered these little disembodied minds off from the rest of himself. And things continued like that for a very long time.
But humanity was only just beginning to get clever. As tribes and clans took hold, complex social behaviors developed, and those behaviors differentiated themselves from the primal energy that defined Ixy. One by one, these energies, these divinities, grew dense enough to power a god on their own. The minds that Ixy had sequestered were not comatose or unaware, and they saw this happening. Eventually, one of them escaped and tied itself to a divinity. They became the first generation of the gods. Hunting, bloodlust, simple lust, hunger, loneliness. Base concepts that all of humanity knew.
This first generation eventually experienced the same fate as Ixy, only without the entirety of the animal kingdom feeding them a steady drip of power, they grew weak as the energies split apart. To offset this, they emanated; breaking off parts of their own minds to take command over the diverging and clumping divinities that had once been entirely theirs. As these emanations seized their own divinities, they became the second generation of gods. Sarisa and Inanna were both second generation gods. The second generation was supposed to serve the first, but after some time, they rebelled.
The first generation was gone; slain somehow in a great war that had been wiped from the minds of all survivors, even the gods themselves. Only Astoram remained of their number. Sarisa and Inanna had discussed how that might have happened, even before Astoram's awakening, and the consensus they had established was that one or more of their 'sibling' gods had learned how to separate a god from their divinity.
Once that was done, then there would be little left but the mind, unless said god had been manifesting. In that case, they would survive not as a disembodied mind, but in whatever form they had taken. And that was what we planned to do to Astoram. What it wasn't, however, was a secret. I looked down at Inanna, who glanced up and caught my eye. When she spoke, I knew she was speaking to me.
"If we succeed. If we find a way to strip Astoram from his divinity, then after we've defeated him, I want to be stripped from my own. I want to live whatever remaining life I have in this body with you, Jerry."
Holy fucking shit.

2023.05.30 21:11 Carnadge 31 [M4F] Northwest Georgia/East Coast/USA - How about we date and fall for each other?

About Me: Starting off, I'm an artist, a creative, and a cosplayer with a reserved, laid back, mild-mannered, easy-going personality type, just looking for a woman who wants to date with long-term intentions (pretty much looking for a girlfriend and life partner). I tend to be a bit quiet at first as I am introverted, but I become more open, inquisitive, and conversational upon meeting people and getting to know them. Since these are important, I lean left politically, am monogamous, not religious, and am childfree (meaning I have no kids and have no desire to ever have or raise any - looking for that Dual Income, No Kids lifestyle).
More About Me: I've sadly been unemployed for a while due to being laid off in a tough job market, but I do a lot of creativity for my self-improvement. I'm active in cosplaying as I make my own costumes and attend local anime/comic conventions (pictures taken from Momocon this past weekend) and collect art posters, prints, and other wall art. I'm not into anime or manga as I'm more into graphic novels, cosplaying, Game Show Network shows, watching professional wrestling matches, puzzles, mystery books, videogames, and indie horrothriller movies, but it's cool if you aren't into those things. Other hobbies of mine include designing personal art projects, creative writing, journaling/blogging, watching game shows, and taking part in recreational activities like bowling (both at the alley and on Wii/Switch Sports), swimming (including the beach), playing billiards/pool, mini golf, air hockey, laser tag, go-kart racing, and attending carnivals, fairs, and amusement parks.
About You: All that said, I'm looking for a single woman in between her mid-20s and mid-30s who I can get to know on a personal level and with time, build a relationship with. Those looking for something casual, meaningless, or short-term need not apply. Those of you who are local to Georgia or in a nearby state are preferred! I won't necessarily count you out if you live in a faraway state but do want to be realistic and say if we hit it off and get along well, it could be a while before we meet due to the long distance. If I had a type, I'd say I'm drawn to glasses-wearing nerdy types of women on the thickecurvier side, but those looks are just bonuses, not requirements. The requirements I do have are that you must also be childfree (wanting to share that D.I.N.K lifestyle), monogamous, non-religious (or at least not deeply religious) and politically progressive/liberal.
I'm only responding to those who message me with a photo/selfie and a short intro as I'll know who read through this... So if you think we could be a good fit and maybe become something together, hit me up via chat or DM!
