2023.06.06 23:06 1specified Side Order Theory

Side Order Theory
This is the one theory I keep coming back to.
Side Order Title Card from the trailer
The theory is that it centres around Dedf1sh.
There are a few ideas I have behind this. The player character (or at least the default character) is an Octo, so it's intended to be an Octoling story.
Dedf1sh's entire music catalogue is numbered. Alterna's soundtrack has a piece in there numbered in the same way, except it far exceeds any numbers in Dedf1sh's catalogue and isn't listed under her name; Octoplush's #35 caught, which not only has a name like Dedf1sh's music, but it also sounds like it was made by her, which I find to be a massive hint. There is also some monstrous sounding warbling in the track, so the "caught" aspect could be literal, and that warbling is representative of her captor. Dedf1sh is also described as having sanitised herself to completely dedicate herself to her music and the music is a product of what is happening in her inner self, so perhaps she just feels caught and needs help out of it.
#35 caught Octoplush
Her album art is her sat in a white void with her turn tables, while the world of Side Order, that we've seen, has been the world of Splatoon 2, but through a white void.
Dedf1sh's Artist Picture.
I did originally believe that it's possible the player Octoling was Dedf1sh because of the similar hairstyle, but I no longer believe this is the case. She is supposed to have green skin and her hair is a touch longer. Though the player Characters hair does appear to have the red tips like Dedf1sh's tentacles do, her hair is much darker elsewhere. The rest of Dedf1sh's tentacles are dark, so maybe that darkness has been getting closer to taking over her completely, or maybe not...
My last thing I find supporting this is that throughout the trailer for Side Order, not only does the music have some Dedf1sh vibes in my opinion, you can also hear a feminine Octolings voice echoing in the distance behind the music, which could be her calling for help.
Tell me what you think.

2023.06.04 15:00 AutoModerator Weekly Aquerium - Ask your questions in here!: June 04, 2023

(We've got some updates about the subreddit including Splatoon 3 spoilers. Please see this post for more details)
Hey there Squids, Octos, and sea creatures of any kind!
Welcome to the Weekly Aquerium! With the old Squad Search and Aquerium, they were only used for just finding teammates or just asking questions. With the new Weekly Aquerium, we hope to bring the two things together into one reoccurring weekly thread!
Each week, there will be a new stickied thread up on Sunday mornings at 9am ET, and they'll stay up until the following Sunday where they'll be replaced by a new thread (Pending special events and the like).
Before posting, why not check with the Splatoon FAQ to see if your question has already been answered. If not, this is the place to be!

How do I ask questions here?

The primary use of the Weekly Aquerium is to have the freedom to ask away with any bubbling questions you may have! While this is mostly to help reduce clutter with repeat posts on the subreddit, there are various types of questions which are better asked here! These includes questions such as:
If you have questions which don't fit the criteria above (Such as broad questions, gear or weapon choices), you're welcome to post them to the subreddit! And if you are unsure whether a question should go here or on the subreddit, it's still perfectly fine to post straight to the subreddit!

What if I want to look for new friends?

The secondary use of the Weekly Aquerium is to double as a place to find new friends (aka Squad Search 2)!
Since Reddit isn't the easiest place to organise your matches, we suggest joining the Splatoon Discord Server where they have dedicated channels for voice chat, match finding, and gear ordering for all your squid game needs! If you still prefer using Reddit, you are also free to look for new friends here by leaving your friend code below, or even giving a friendly hallo to others!

Closing out!

We hope that this thread will be of good use to those who come across it! Once again, do join the Splatoon Discord Server for your squid game needs! And be sure to Stay Fresh, Stay off the Hook, and Catch ya Later!

/WiiU's Monthly Question Thread

Hello everyone! Welcome to the Monthly Question Thread, a place where all of your Wii U-related questions can be asked and answered in. Besides questions, feel free to post your unboxing videos and pictures here, so that way it doesn't back up the main subreddit page.

Please make sure you check out our other Wiki pages, make a search through the subreddit or Google before you ask a question. Most of the time it has already been answered. If you're too lazy, then this thread is perfect for you!

Handy Resources

Frequently Asked Questions + New Owner's Guide - Is a great place to check first hand if you run into any problems or if you have any unclear thoughts. Our FAQ has answers to many questions regarding the console itself, controllers, transferring data, hard drives and other subjects. Our new owner's guide should be able to assist you in setting up your console or if you have plans on purchasing one.
Games recommendation for Wii U, eShop and Wii - In there you'll be able to find many great titles recommended by the community themselves. Also includes what type of genre, the amount of players and if OFF-TV is supported. We also have game recommendation threads created by Chronus13 every week. They cover a wider selection of AAA-games to indie games. You can check them out here!
Controller Infographics - Welcome to the sea of controllers. A rather detailed infographics about each controller compatible with the Wii U.
External Hard Drives - Do you need extra space for your games? Check no further. The external hard drive wiki has all the information you need. There's also a list of compatible hard drives.
Tips & Tricks - Tricks that could enhance your experience with the Wii U.
Error Code Lookup - Please use this search to find your error codes. You can also try to use our subreddit search or google to look up your error codes. We recommend you contact Nintendo directly if your error code was not found or if there is no solution to it.

We suggest you contact Nintendo's Support for any bigger issues with your hardware/software at:

2023.05.28 17:21 VernonKazama My Mario Kart Wish List 📃

~ 1. Introduction ~
Here is a detailed description of my wishlist for a Mario Kart 9 or 10/X (if Tour is considered the 9th installment) I don't expect everyone to like all my ideas. This is just a wishlist. I obviously would be happy with any Mario Kart Nintendo decides to put out but in a perfect world, this is what I would want for it to be the best Mario Kart imo. I hope you enjoy.

*¹ - All and All Mirror options are only available in Grand Prix. After a Circuit has been selected, It'll play each Cup in order of that specific Circuit.
*² - All race and battle modes will feature either a Solo Dash or the new Double Dash option similar to Mario Kart Double Dash for extra replayability and character combinations.
*³ - Even if not many people liked Automatic drifting, it was there for a reason for you to choose. Some liked it. Some didn't. It should be the player's choice.
*⁴ - Camera can also be changed freely during the race from the pause menu.

*¹ - Added a Pro difficulty to make the CPU feel more of a challenge.
*² - Wanted to split the vehicle selections between Solo Dash and Double Dash drivers. Solo Dash drivers will now only select between Karts and Bikes and Double Dash drivers will only select between ATVs and new Buggy vehicles. *Buggys are essential similar to the designs of the Karts used in Mario Kart Double Dash. ATVs are now bigger in size to help fit the idea of 2 drivers on one vehicle.
*³ - The original Super Mario Kart had 5 courses per Cup so I brought that option back for custom races.
*⁴ - Wanted to make the option available for players. These courses will be excluded from Laps option and be set to default when selected: ⁿ⁶⁴ Wario Stadium, ⁿ⁶⁴ Rainbow Road, ᵍᶜⁿ Baby Park, ᵍᶜⁿ Wario Colosseum, ³ᵈˢ Wuhu Loop, ³ᵈˢ Maka Wuhu, ³ᵈˢ Rainbow Road, ʷⁱⁱ ᵘ Mount Wario, and ʷⁱⁱ ᵘ Big Blue.

Mega Mushroom - The driver grows bigger, which allows them to squash other racers by running over them, making them lose their items and slow down for a moment. Drivers: Pac-Man, Ms. Pac-Man, Wiggler
Poison Mushroom - A stationary item. Looks like a regular mushroom but If one is run into, the victim shrinks, as if hit by a Lightning. Shrunken racers who run into it revert to normal size. Drivers: Kamek * ngl, i didn't really know who to give this item to

Triple Bananas - Three bananas that orbit the player's kart, protecting them from incoming attacks. Drivers: Donkey Kong Jr., Dixie Kong
Giant Banana - Not only does this big banana spin out karts that hit it, but after being struck it breaks into three regular-sized Bananas. Drivers: Donkey Kong

Thunder Cloud - A thundercloud hovers over the recipient and strikes it with lightning after 10 seconds. The user shrinks to a very small size for 10 seconds, driving more slowly. Before this happens, the user has higher speed and acceleration while not losing speed when driving off-road, and may pass the cloud to an opponent by bumping into them. Drivers: Blinky, Pinky, Inky, Clyde * If there was absolutely no choice but to have the next Meta character, it'd be the Ghosts. Having one of the worst possible specials in the game should balance them out.
POW Block - The POW Block appears above the karts as a 2D image, warning players of its arrival, and causes any racer on the ground ahead of the user to spin out and drop their items. * Since wheelies are no longer a thing, it always spins out other racers unless they're in anti-gravity mode or during an in air trick Drivers: Mii, Don-chan
Super Leaf- Gives the player's kart a tail that can be used to deflect items, knock over opponents and collect coins. The tail will disappear after a moment or if the player is hurt. Drivers: Tanooki Mario
Lucky Seven - Surrounds the player with seven items that rotates around its kart. The player receives a Mushroom, Banana, Green Shell, Red Shell, Blooper, Bob-omb, and a Star. Drivers: King Boo, Pauline, Poochy, Nabbit, Chargin' Chuck, Pianta, Noki
Boomerang Flower - Can be thrown up to three times, hitting racers forward/backward and when it returns to its user after the first and second use. Driver: Boomerang Bro, Larry
Piranha Plant - Automatically chomps on obstacles and other racers, giving a short speed boost for each bite. Drivers: Petey Piranha
Double Bob-ombs - Two Bob-ombs will revolve around your kart. Throw them both at once. Drivers: Wario, Waluigi, Roy
Bob-omb Cannon - Continually shoots out Bob-ombs in front of your kart for a set time. Drivers: Shy Guy
Giga Bob-omb - After being thrown, it will explode after hitting a kart or bouncing 3 times. It has a larger blast radius than a standard Bob-omb. Drivers: King Bob-omb
Bubble - Briefly envelops your kart and protects you from damage for a set time. While in the bubble, you will get a speed boost and float in the air. Drivers: Baby Peach, Baby Daisy, Baby Rosalina, Lemmy
Dash Ring - Tosses out three rings in front of you along the track. Pass through them for a speed boost! Drivers: Rosalina, Luma, Ludwig, Honey Queen
Hammer - Throws multiple Hammers in an arc aimed at karts in front of yours. Drivers: Hammer Bro
Super Bell - A bell rings above the driver, knocking away nearby karts and items. The bell rings three consecutive times. Drivers: Cat Peach, Cat Toad
Capsule - Three colorful capsules surround your kart. They'll bounce at opponents when thrown. Drivers: Dr. Mario
Splat Bomb ⁽ⁿᵉʷ⁾ - * Explodes after a short time when thrown or dropped, knocking and spraying ink on any kart in its blast radius and reduces their visibility. The racers hit also lose some of their traction while sprayed. Drivers: Inkling Girl, Inkling Boy
Magical Boomerang ⁽ⁿᵉʷ⁾ - * Works like a Boomerang Flower that tracks closes kart infront of player like a Red Shell Drivers: Link
Magnet ⁽ᵈˡᶜ⁾ - * a powerful magnet that pulls opponents towards the player Source Drivers: Krunch
Nayru's Love ⁽ᵈˡᶜ⁾ - * will surround the racer's kart with a protective shield. Any items that hit this shield will be reflected back at the racer who used them. If a driver using Nayru's Love is attacked with an item such as a Lightning, the racer who used the Lightning item will take damage. Drivers: Zelda
Copy Ability ⁽ᵈˡᶜ⁾ - * steals Special item from any racer. If no racer has a special item on them, it'll randomly generate a random racer's Special Item. Drivers: Kirby
Dedede's Hammer ⁽ᵈˡᶜ⁾ - * driver using Dedede's Hammer, will swing it around for about 5 seconds. Any karts hit will be squashed, causing them to lose their item and speed momentarily. Drivers: King Dedede
Invincibility Shield ⁽ᵈˡᶜ⁾ - * become invulnerable to all damage for a short time. Drivers: Sonic, Tails
Bombs ⁽ᵈˡᶜ⁾ - * Think Double Bob-ombs, the original Triple Bananas and the Feather item. If used as a protective item, upon the explosion, the player will leap in the air, providing a small speed boost upon landing. Drivers: Samus
Geno Flash ⁽ᵈˡᶜ⁾ - * works like a Lightning but doesn't strink opponents. Drivers: Geno

2023.05.28 15:00 AutoModerator Weekly Aquerium - Ask your questions in here!: May 28, 2023

2023.05.23 23:15 Airstrike301 Splatoon transparent letter question

Hello, is there any way to get the Splatoon letters as single or collective transparent image to use for text in pictures?
For example SFM pictures etc.
Only thing I could find so far was either too low quality or using software to remove the background ended up not working. Any help would be appreciated.

2023.05.18 23:37 Sohakmet Weekly Salt Discussion: Inkbrush

Do you feel as if Splatoon is already much of a pain inducing game already? That's great, please feel pain, but what if I told you that can be worsened even more by playing the arthritis weapon? Prepare your controllers, because you'll be ZRing more than trisloshers with this one... or you could just draw happy little dicks on the map, too. Let's talk about the Inkbrush.
So called free thinkers when Clam Blitz is on rotation

WEAPON STATS

Range: 5/100 (lol?)
Ink Speed: 100/100
Handling: 100/100
Points for special: 180p
Sub weapon: Splat Bomb
Special: Killer Wail 5.1
Special Notes: Works much like a roller, but way faster and paints less while rolling around. Speed while rolling is not affected by RSU.

SHELDON'S DESCRIPTION

The Inkbrush is a super-light brush weapon that lets you ink your way forward with blistering speed! There's not much room for power when you're moving that fast, but you can keep counterattacks at bay with plenty of Splat Bombs. Add the Killer Wail 5.1 to the mix, and you've got a combo that will confuse and annoy your opponents into submission! I can see it now... You blaze across battle lines... toss a Splat Bomb, and trigger the Killer Wail just in time to headbang along as the clock runs out. Whew! That's inking outside the box!

SALTY DESCRIPTION

After 1 (one) match of playing brush
It's 7pm. You just returned from work. You boot up Splatoon 3 to play some Anarchy Series and hopefully, this time, finally make out of B rank. "This rank up is mine.", you exclaim, as you get into the lobby and check mapmodes going on. Clam Blitz. Wahoo World and Mincemeat. You press A as you see your points deducted when buying into the series and a single, silent, tear runs down your cheeks as you are met with brush after brush in your matches and all they do is collect clams and run straight down the basket. You try to do something, but your efforts are in vain as the brushes sweep past you, not giving a single moment of attention. Your rank up fails. You turn off your switch as you decide you'll go to sleep early and somewhere in Japan Nogami lets out a smirk.
Inkbrush is that one weapon that can be a real pain in the ass to go against if you are caught off guard... as it's a weapon all about getting people off guard. I used to play brush a lot in Splatoon 2 and a bit in 1 because it was fun to just go around and swing shit and somehow I managed to do well. Today, I'm old. My fingers aren't quite as spry as they used to be, so it isn't quite weapon for me anymore. It has actually quite a decent kit. Nothing like spamming shit bombs from a safe distance and getting random kills like the Splat Jr. and then chasing people down with killer wail. I once even killed someone chasing me down with wail, was actually really funny lmfao get rekt. But it's range problems make it a weapon that requires a degree of brain function a level beyond the average Splatoon 3 player to actually do something with it, which is why it feels like getting your arm twisted everytime someone picks it in clams, be it in your or the enemy team, BECAUSE IT'S SO GREAT TO PICK CLAMS, AMIRITE???
Every match is seeing lobotomized timmies running around doing NOTHING ELSE other than picking clams and trying to cheese the basket. It doesn't matter what fucking map it is. It can work in shit like Wahoo because it's gigantic and got so much useless space that allows for them to just fuck off into their own universe and do whatever they want, but they WILL bring it to any map. Hammerhead? Hahahaha, you bet they will! So every torture session will be a stalemate as no team can break and make a push and no, no they won't flank, that is not in their limited vernacular that probably consists entirely of words just as "run" and "booyah".
In other modes? These woomies are hella cracked. Sometimes will take triple kills with ease despite all odds because that's just the nature of this game's ranked (thanks Nogami), but people that actually use this weapon need a constant dopamine rush from just going fast or they will instantly combust, like that one movie with Keanu Reeves.
Maybe one day you will learn how to actually play Clams without just running into the enemy team in hopes you'll survive to score one clam, before giving the enemy team the winning push. But we all know that won't happen.

What should be done next? Leave your suggestions in the comments and also leave your own experiences with/against this weapon.
Last Week: Flingza Roller

2023.05.13 19:21 LuckyLuckLucker [Splatoon 2] Octo Expansion's secret final boss: tips and tricks (with videos)

I just finished that squid-forsaken fight after many MANY attempts and couldn't find much help online, so I decided to dump here what I learned and hope it helps some poor soul one day. Don't forget to check the Inner Agent 3 entries in the Splatoon Wiki and Inkipedia, although I found them lacking besides describing what Agent 3 is doing.
General
Phase 1 (medium)
Phase 2 (easier)
Phase 3 (hardest)
Phase 4 (easiest)
Phase 5 (harder)
And that's how I defeated Malenia-- I mean, Agent 3. Any info or correction is welcomed.
Stay Fresh! ✌

2023.05.11 20:14 Sohakmet Weekly Salt Discussion: Flingza Roller

Woah, woops. I forgot to come back and make another weekly post after spending copious amounts of hours on twitter complaining how Shiver simps should be hanged on Twitter. Now that all my copium has run out and after enduring counltess hours of running into Gold Aero timmies in fest, I can finally talk some shit about the least skilled weapon in the game.
Why?
WEAPON STATS
Range: 58/100
Ink Speed: 45/100
Handling: 45/100
Points for special: 210p
Sub weapon: Ink Mine
Special: Tenta Missiles
Special Notes: Wowie zowie! It's a roller where the vertical flick is slow like a dynamo's, but horizontal is as fast as a normal roller's! Can output massive amounts of painting and do roller shit.

Sheldon's Description

The Flingza Roller is a wild one. Its shape changes depending on whether you swing vertically or horizontally! I won't get too technical, but the automatic centrifugal clutch allows for light horizontal swings that go FLOOSH and heavier vertical swings that are more like GLOMP! The bottom line is that you can control the action. Use the vertical swing to lay down a path, then take down nearby opponents with the quick strike of a horizontal swing. While you're zipping around, you can also lay down Ink Mines to help sniff out opponents and fire off some Tenta Missiles for a one-two punch. If you're up to the challenge of simply dominating a match, then you should give this set a try!

Salty description

My special is ready!
Took long enough, I suppose. I'll finally be tackling missiles... But they aren't as salt enducing anymore due to being recked from the balance changes.

GET FUCKED!

Flingza is the kind of weapon for playing pretend. Timmy will pick it up and pretend they aren't a disappointment to their whole family the same way this weapon pretends it does anything to the team. Rollers are kind of a fucking joke like I think I talked about in the Carbon Deco post? I don't fucking remember, whatever. No range, damage fucking sucks, can't get close and kits are overall terrible. Same applies to the flingza! Which is just a worse splat roller and a better Dynamo! They won't fucking do anything all match long apart from spamming vert flicks painting ground that was already painted because they have "the most overpowered special in the game" according to people like ProChara, completely ignoring all the reasons why it's overpowered in the first place.
But even then HOLY FUCKING SHIT, YOU FLINGZA PLAYERS SHOULD JUMP OFF HAMMERHEAD BRIDGE.
You see, I'm sort of a short ranged weapon player myself. Luna blaster to be more precise. And I cannot even fucking KNOW where to start on strangling all of you, because when our ranges match, your weapon takes no fucking skill. One flick and I'm dead. From all the time in the match you took just flicking around to paint shit for missiles, you managed to get a second off just to get in my way and kill me. I wish you all an eternity of Mincemeat rotations.
Missiles, despite their nerf, still are fucking annoying as shit. You just can't spam them that much anymore. Thank god. You see, you would think that the missiles nerf was due to Reeflux painting every fucking corner of the map and spamming that shit from Alpha Centauri, reminding us just why Splatoon 2 was a fucking mistake, right? Well, no. It was you fuckers that did it, because out of all the weapons that have missiles, and may Nogami have mercy to make them the only ones to be like so, Flingza actually can do something by itself. Reeflux can't fight, Gootuber as a main is borderline useless and torpedo spam can only get you so far. So it was left to all Flingza timmies out there just playing this weapon because they could spam 12 missiles and immediately shove their controller up their ass to feel every single one of them launching.
Good riddance to all of you, maybe do like the special you like to use so much and launch yourself straight into the ground.

What should be done next? Leave your suggestions in the comments and also leave your own experiences with/against this weapon.
Last Week: Aerospray RG

2023.05.07 15:00 AutoModerator Weekly Aquerium - Ask your questions in here!: May 07, 2023

2023.05.01 15:24 CaspianX2 eShopperReviews April 2023 Wrap-Up

eShopperReviews April 2023 Wrap-Up

In the month of April, I reviewed 45 Nintendo Switch games (while buying 67), meaning that my first month back to reviewing exclusively Nintendo Switch games saw me actually falling behind in my goal to review all of my Nintendo Switch games. Oh well.
All told, my Nintendo Switch titles reviewed to titles owned ratio is now 2200/3104.
Now that I'm making it a point to track the number of subscribers, I'll also point out that this subreddit is at 8831 subscribers. For those keeping track, this means that after multiple months of losing subscribers, things started going up again once I stopped reviewing Nintendo 3DS and Wii U games, confirming what I suspected was driving traffic away.
So... huh, interesting. It doesn’t make me regret doing my year of Nintendo 3DS and Wii U reviews, that was a personal goal I set for myself, and honestly the subscriber count doesn’t matter that much to me - it’s nice when I can see that what I’m doing here is appreciated by more people, but most of the reason I do this is... because I want to do this.
However, having said that, I am happy you’re all here, and it is something important to me that I’m creating content that you enjoy. Yeah, I know, it’s kinda’ conflicting. Yet still true!
Anyway, for those who are new to this subreddit, hi! Welcome! I hope you enjoy your time here!
.

Patreon Updates

On the Patreon side of things, we had 11 patrons kindly donating in the month of April, and their contributions will be recognized in reviews throughout the month of May. If you’re curious to see the names, you can check them out below.
The games Patrons voted on in March for me to review in April were Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection and Falling Elevator - Hyper Casual Demolish Escape Survival Game, both of which I’ll talk about more below.
Okay, so those are the reviews from March’s votes, but what games won the April votes? Well, the normal patron vote resulted in a tie between Lil Gator Game and Melatonin, and as always in case of a tie, I act as the tie-breaking vote. However, while the normal vote was evenly split, the budget vote was unanimous, with everyone participating voting for Rô. As always, I will be reviewing both of these games sometime within the next month.
Okay, on to new votes up for this month!
.

Monthly Patreon Votes - May

For this month's patron vote for those who donate $5 or more on Patreon, I’m doing something special! This month’s selections are all games that have been released so far in 2023 that received a score of 80 or higher on Metacritic, games that have not been named in a prior vote this year, and games from indie studios. And because this is quite a few games, and also games that are generally priced less than half of the cost of a major release, title, I will be reviewing the top two games in this vote. In addition, I will also be allowing voters to select as many games as they like!
The full list of games to vote for in the Patron vote are as follows:
A Space for the Unbound
Breakers Collection
Coffee Talk Episode 2: Hibiscus & Butterfly
Drainus
Dredge
Fashion Police Squad
Ib
NeverAwake
Paranormasight: The Seven Mysteries of Honjo
PowerWash Simulator
Rakuen: Deluxe Edition
Rytmos
The Excavation of Hob’s Barrow
The Mageseeker: A League of Legends Story
Whichever two games in this list receive the most votes by the end of May will be reviewed in June.
As for the All-Patron Budget Vote for those who donate $1 or more, I’m looking at even more budget games released in early 2023. As per usual, all games in this vote are normally priced in the eShop at $2 or under.
The selections for the second vote are as follows:
Finger Football: Goal in One
JarataireRPG
My Name is Mayo
Non-Stop Space Probe
Radiantflux Hyperfractal 4.0
Tuya
As always, whichever game earns the most votes by the end of April will be reviewed in May!
If you want to join in these votes, head over to the eShopperReviews Patreon page and make a donation - again, to be clear, donating any dollar amount allows you to partake in the All-Patron Budget Vote, and donating $5 or more enables you to participate in both votes!
.

Podcasts & Game Streams

Once again, Patreon subscribers can hear me discussing the last month’s highlights in a monthly podcast. I should note that these podcasts are made available to patrons first, but if you’re not a patron, you won’t be completely left out - I’ll have the podcast made available to everyone on YouTube a week or so after Patreon patrons get it. However, if you’re curious to hear the podcast right when it releases, please consider heading over to the Patreon page and making a donation! In this month’s podcast, Jenn and I talk about the April 2023 Indie World Showcase, as well as sharing our thoughts on The Super Mario Bros. Movie. And as always, we also discuss the last month’s reviews that I deemed to be the best games, worst games, and hidden gems. No streams in April. Is this something people here want to see more of? Please speak up in the comments if so!
.

eShopperReviews Subreddit Updates

On the subreddit side of things, I had one major theme week this month, a week of Compilations and Collections. No changes to the Wiki this month, but I did do a lot of updating to the Compilation and Bundle Chart page to reflect all the new Compilations I reviewed.
I also added new reviews for multiple releases on Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack’s Nintendo 64 App and Sega Genesis App, and in turn I updated the pages for the Nintendo 64 App and the Sega Genesis App, to reflect these.
I also received a review code for the game Sherlock Holmes The Awakened from the kind people at Frogwares, and I posted my review of the game. The short version is: I like the story and characters, but I feel like the game’s mechanics are overly-complicated, and the game is buggy and has performance issues on Nintendo Switch.
Once again, no new Bad Behavior Profiles this month. At some point I’ll have to get back to updating these...
Okay, I think that's it for major events on eShopperReviews in April, now onto some review highlights! Here's my picks for the most noteworthy games I reviewed in April 2023. As always, these are not necessarily games that came out this April, just what I was able to review this last month.
Okay, so on to April’s highlights:
.

The Best

Splatoon 3 - Splatoon 3 is basically just Splatoon 2 with new maps, a few new weapons, and a bunch of new improvements throughout the game. However, since Splatoon 2 was already excellent, giving us a better version of that great game results in... another great game. Shocker, I know!
Remnants of Naezith - Remnants of Naezith is a Platformer with a grappling hook mechanic that combines with its excellent physics to make simply moving through its levels feel like a dream. While this game is challenging in a way that may not appeal to everyone, it’s rewarding in a way that fans of the genre should absolutely check out.
Assassin’s Creed Anniversary Edition Mega Bundle - At $100, this Compilation is quite an investment, but this is unquestionably the best way to go if you’re looking to get all of the Assassin’s Creed games released on Nintendo Switch in the US so far (Japanese players technically got a streaming-only version of Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey that’s not included here). Included here are a wealth of excellent Stealth-focused Open-World Action-RPGs. In short, this is a great Compilation to get if you want to do your Assassin-ing on the go.
Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection - Speaking of great packages, this Compilation includes all six numbered games (plus their copy-paste counterparts) in the Mega Man Battle Network series. While this Compilation is lacking in a few areas, it has a good selection of extras, and the core gameplay throughout this series is outstanding, and unlike just about anything else out there.
.

The Worst

Awakening of Cthulhu - If you’re going to make your game force players to engage in combat over and over and over again, at least make that combat fun and interesting, not a dull, repetitive slog. And that’s not even the game’s worst failing. No, that honor goes to the atrociously bad graphics, which have players facing off against pixellated monsters in front of pixellated backgrounds that have failed to load properly. This game is an utter embarrassment, and should never have been released in this state.
Ducky Quacky - Speaking of games that shouldn’t have been released in this state, Ducky Quacky is already off to a bad start with gameplay and visuals that make it an aggressively mediocre 3D Platformer. But then add to that poor controls, a bad camera, and eerily silent sound, and you have to wonder what these people were thinking, releasing this mess on the same platform as Mario.
Falling Elevator - Hyper Casual Demolish Escape Survival Game - My, it’s been a while since I last reviewed an honest-to-goodness asset flip, and this is a particularly bad one. The publisher who slopped this game onto the Nintendo Switch eShop couldn’t even be bothered to change the original asset’s name within the game itself, and despite the asset advertising having a built-in level builder, the game itself only includes the 50 levels that came with the asset. All of this is on top of simple, boring gameplay that is always either far too easy or far too difficult. Please don’t waste your money on this low-effort trash.
Hentai: Make Love Not War and Hentai Uni - As always, whenever I review a hentai game, I make it a point to say that I don’t have anything against these games, or in favor of them, so long as the game itself is good and the sexy content makes sense within the game. In this case, it’s hard for me to say that the game is good or bad because it’s barely even a game, just the simplest of tile-swapping puzzles, with both Hentai: Make Love Not War and Hentai Uni only differing in which sexy images you’re trying to unscramble. If you want a Puzzle game, you have about a gazillion better choices than these. If you want porn, then... just go look at porn! I don’t know who this game was created for, because it just seems so pointless.
Barry the Bunny - Out of all the worst games in this list, Barry the Bunny is the one that actually had potential. There’s a great aesthetic here, and simple retro-style Platformer gameplay that at least could have been fun. The problem is that this game has some nasty difficulty spikes, and those are compounded by some absolutely terrible, broken controls. Once again, a terrible Platformer on the same console as Mario... what were they thinking?
.

Hidden Gems

Destropolis - Destropolis combines simple but well-made 2-Stick Shooter gameplay with Roguelike elements that keep things interesting and ensure that each play-through will be different. This game is a blast.
Dezatopia - Dezatopia provides players with a retro-style Shmup that has some unique and inventive mechanics, such as a 4-directional weapon system with each weapon working differently, and an upgrade system as you progress through the game. Not all of the experimental things this game tries works out, but enough of them do to make it well worth checking out if you enjoy this genre.
Bit.Trip Collection - At $10, this Compilation of all six games in the original Bit.Trip saga is an outstanding value, and worth the price even if you’re only interested in half of the games included. This is a great package for fans of simple, Arcade-style Music-Rhythm games.
Gunborg: Dark Matters - Gunborg is just an all-around solid Action-Platformer and 2-Stick Shooter with fun gameplay mechanics. Not sure there’s much else to add here.
Gridd: Retroenhanced - This On-Rails Shooter combines the gameplay of games like Star Fox and Panzer Dragoon with a presentation that feels reminiscent of Thumper, making for a surprisingly polished experience. I just wish the camera were a bit better... but even with this glaring flaw, this is an excellent entry in the genre.
.
Anyway, that covers pretty much all of the big stuff for April. I hope you've all enjoyed reading what I have to say!
