Hi Community,
we'll be in Bangkok at New Year's Eve 2024.
Any advice on where to go/what to do? We thought about a NYE-Party at a rooftop bar, but would be keen to hear other suggestions.

2023.06.07 22:58 WolfRevolutionary813 Which job should I choose?

Stuck between current job and new offer
Current career advisor at local college making 44k since February. Good management and coworkers decent benefits easy/ tolerable work, I get to make an impact in students' lives and I have a chance to move up in the college with a new position after a year. Got an offer to be an claims adjuster apprentice making 45k then 48k in 6 months 50 in 9 months and topping out at 58k in 12 months. But the workload would be way more intense from my understanding. Also currently buying a condo and hope to close soon. Married with no kids and 1 cat living in Florida. What would you do?

What do you guys want in 30th anniversary of In Utero?
Personally I am hoping for a good quality 1993 New Year's Eve Oakland performance. Its setlist is so good and its better than Live and Loud IMO. I would also love ton of demos and new mix of You Know You're Right.

2023.06.07 22:17 tangerine_overlord1 Woohoo! I got invited for an interview with my top choice of internship

Hi all, I was informed this morning that a prevalent water management firm in my area wants me to come in for in interview! I really want to do well so I was wondering if you can give me some advice
Just for some background info i am 23F, in my third year of a B.S in geology, and i am looking to go to grad school for and begin my career in hydrology/hydrogeology. The internship title is 'environmental compliance intern'. I also live in central Florida in case that is relevant.
The firms mission statement is essentially to protect water safety, water quality, ensure public water needs are met, and minimize flood risk.
My duties would include site inspections, interpretation of environmental plans and projects, and presenting findings to staff and the public. Also i would likely be conducting investigations of water-resource related permitting and compliance activities. And maybe office work like reviewing applications for new permits. The list of duties wasnt that broad so I am kind of spit balling some of these things based off of what the company does overall
So i am wondering if any of you are on a panel of interviewers for this type of work/have gone through such an interview and know what kind of questions they would be asking?
And another important factor is what kind of questions should i ask?
Would it be appropriate if i bring a small notepad with my questions so i can write down their answers and other important info? This last question is a bit random. My mom says I shouldnt wear brown to an interview however my nicest suit jacket is brown, so should i not wear it? Lol
If you have any other advice please let know!! I am so excited for this

2023.06.07 21:36 Arthur-reborn How often do you get headhunted?

I've been in my clinic for about 6 years now. I am a check in monkey. I do not have any letters before or after my name. There is, however, a Dr. With the same first initial and same last name as me.

Our email addresses are [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]). Because I started long before this newer Dr. I had that email setup, while they added another initial.

I keep getting solicited for new and exciting opportunities in other hospital systems and other states a few times a week. Even had one from another hospital system in the city want to meet for lunch. I was half tempted to take them up on the offer as punishment for irritating me, rather than just ignoring the email.

How often do you guys get solicited for other organizations? They really want me to become a Dr. in Florida, though. lol

2023.06.07 21:32 jochem4208 'Exploiting'

Hey EVE,
I would love to dive back into eve and start trying all sorts of legal exploits with game mechanics. Not the sort of bug abuse or unfair advantage. But just play with the game engine ingame. Create fun scenarios and Win eve ofcourse. Like creating a ship with maximum amount of EHP (for its tier) and go have fun with it.
I'm worried that with low amount of time available maybe like 30 minutes a day eve, especially omega isn't worth it.
Do you guys and girls have any input on ideas if this is feasible or should I try to create more time. I can afford omega tho 20 a month is crazy high. I've one toon with about 40mil sp (it's I think mainly focused on frigates and tengu).
I stopped playing for 3-4 years atleast so it's all bit vague.
-------break line ------
Secondary question, would there still be (if it can be made with CCP approval) interest for like the hacking minigame outside of eve? In let's say a web browser game for phones (and pc) but I imagine it mostly playing while travelling? I've put up this idea looooong ago (it's somewhere far in my Reddit history) 😅
--------break line ------
Main goal is to have fun again, I'm searching a new game after finishing kingdom come deliverance
Every input is welcome 😊 o/
Edit: stupid formatting

2023.06.07 21:19 Moonymoonymoo I'm planning to attend a college out of state and my dad wants to follow me or force me to live with people he knows.

Im(19F) graduated from high school a week ago, and for as long as I could remember I've wanted to leave. I've applied to and accepted into a universit in a different state with their presidential merit scholarship so finances aren't the main immediate concern.
However, I grew up in a very traditional, conservative, asian family so this is way out of the norm. Especially in my family. Growing up, my parents have always been very very controlling and outright abusive. Emotionally, mentally, physically, and sexually to not just me, but my younger brother.
I told my parents that I planned to go out of state after pondering for a long time. I didn't know how they'd react and I was so sure theyd try to hurt me in whatever way they could. My bank account was created when I was 17, so my father co-signed and my parents have access to all my money. They can see every transaction, every deposit, and can even take out money as they pleased. I worked for a year to save up all I could, and the fact that they would take my money.
It was radio silence for a while and they acted like I never said anything. But lately my mom has been amping up the emotional manipulation ×10. Saying things like she didn't have a daughter and that I was "broken" and needed fixing for wanting to leave my parents. I ignore it as I always do, but then last night she dropped the bomb that my dad was planning to follow me to Florida and live there until I graduate I am freaking out. It makes me hyperventilate at the thought of being a goddamn servant for him, being in a house, much less a room with him after everything he did to me as a kid. I planned on moving in with my boyfriend (that they don't know of because they're major racists) and I didn't plan on telling them until after we got engaged. But sweet lord I am absolutely terrified. Even if he didn't move with me, he has family there and they expect me to live with them.
I've lost sleep over this and I can't even breath most times I think about it. My flight has been booked and I was planning on telling them that the school sent me the ticket. I can't pen a new bank account until I have an address for the new place. But they have access to my money, my location, and pay my phone bill. I don't think anything will deter them and I just want to avoid the fight. I'm so tired of yelling and the fighting, the guilt tripping. Being in this house is so suffocating and I want to leave so bad.

2023.06.07 21:18 arandomnamebcihadto Weirdly high water bill (FL)

I was wondering what an average water bill in Florida is? Our apartment came under new management and they are asking for $130!! for water per month.
We do have a small dishwasher but we do not have a washer dryer and it’s only two of us (a couple) in a 1BD/1BA. It’s about 700-750 square feet. We’re trying to ask to see a bill and they’re being really slum lordy threatening to evict us despite us living there for almost two years and we’ve always been on time for payments. We just don’t want to pay that large amount until we see why.
We didn’t used to have to pay a water bill but new management alleges we owe them $130 monthly now. What gives? Is this normal? Do we have any course of action or should we just pay it and shut up?
A neighbor alleged they broke a pipe and are trying to charge us tenants for it. I wish I could warn people away from this management company as they are super aggressive and threaten people and nickel and dime them. I feel really stressed which sucks because I love our apartment and neighborhood otherwise but maybe this is just the price for watewater waste now and I’m out of touch?

Support for Elevator Repair
In October 2022, the passenger elevator that serves our 4-story building and our neighbor’s building stopped working. Months were then spent exploring why it failed, possible solutions and choosing who to make the repairs followed. We have explored grants and there are none that pays for elevators. To make matters worse, there have been many surprising obstacles for the repairmen. The price tag continues to rise from the initial quote of $107,000 to now well over $275,000 and the elevator still has not been restored. The lack of an elevator has impacted our business significantly.
Help us raise money to pay for the elevator repairs. We don’t yet know the final price tag. Our part will be ¼ the final cost which at this point is at least $75,000. We share the elevator with 311 Water and other owners of our building, 305 Water.

2023.06.07 20:51 Downtown_Statement87 That time that I was the Backwoods Creepy.

OK. First, you must know that, 30 years ago, from age 17-22, I did a lot of crystal meth. I know what you're thinking, but it wasn't like that. I was extremely high functioning. I graduated from college magna cum laude with a double major in Russian and Religion, and held down a complicated job. I was the youngest person at my university ever inducted into Phi Beta Kappa, which people tell me is really something. I was asked to represent my university by speaking at academic conferences.
I didn't do meth to cope with how busy I was. I did all of the above because I had so much extra time thanks to the meth, and decided to fill it by learning the Russian language. All of it. In one night.
I lived a VERY schizophrenic existence. No one would have believed by looking at me that I was a pretty hard-core meth user, and mainly hung out with strippers and bikers who were much older than I. Here is what I looked like back then, when I took a break from doing meth to hang out at a coup. https://robinwhetstone.blogspot.com/2015/10/searching-for-dmitri.html?m=1
Back in Gainesville, I had a group of associates (drug addicts often don't have "friends") whose favorite thing to do was get really high and go out to Paynes Prairie (PP) at midnight. PP is a unique natural feature in north-central Florida. It's a vast grassland ringed by dense, spooky live-oak hammocks and marshy areas, and also a few residential houses that run some cattle. It's very big, very wild, and mostly untrailed.
We'd go out there at midnight and take off all of our clothes, including our shoes. We'd split up, and spend the rest of the night walking alone and totally naked in the darkness. We were definitely high AF, but we weren't dangerous. We were weirdos and artists, members of punk bands, and also, sometimes, River Phoenix.
This was in the late '80s and early '90s, so there were no cellphones, and we never ever brought flashlights. Your eyes would adjust to the moonlight very quickly, and the few trails out there were made of fine white sand, which gleamed even when the moon was new. Once you got off the trail, though, you were on your own, and many dangerous things bit us while we were out there.
One night, I was 1/2 way down the main trail away from the parking area when I heard voices. Lots of voices. It was 2 am, and I was alone and naked. The moon was totally full, and the trail I was on seemed to radiate its own silver light. The voices belonged to young men and women, and they were laughing and shouting and saying, "Duuude!" and "Ew, HEATHER! That's SOOOO GROSS."
They sounded like drunk frat boys and sorority girls from the university. I wasn't afraid of them, but I didn't want to waste time answering the questions they'd undoubtedly have if they saw me. In the moonlight it was easy to spot a saw palmetto about 25 feet off the trail. I ran over to it and squatted behind it, wrapping my hair around my arms and chest.
The group of about 10 kids neared. They were still hooting and bickering. Soon they'd pass by. They were even with me and still making loud sounds. If I were a cryptid, I could attack and eat 2 of them before they realized anything was wrong.
They passed by and their voices grew fainter. Finally, it was silent. I counted slowly to 90, not rushing through any Mississippis, and stood up.
The 10 frat and sorority kids were standing directly across from me on the trail, staring at me, speechless, with identical looks of terror on their conventionally attractive faces. I was 5'8", weighed about 115 pounds, and was totally naked. My pale skin, given to me by my Scottish grandmother, glowed like a corpse's in the moonlight. My waist-length auburn hair was wavy and unruly on a good day, but on this night, thanks to the humidity and the meth, it was a sentient thing all its own, standing out in a mass around my face and shoulders, writhing and beckoning.
I decided to go with what my observers were probably thinking, which was "ghost," or "witch," or "demon." It was close enough. I stood perfectly still and stared back at them, my face expressionless. They let out a collective "YAWP" of horror and hightailed it back toward the parking area. I turned my back on the palmetto and lit off through the woods, avoiding the trails for the rest of the night.
When the sky began to pinken, the 6 of us met by the place where we stashed our clothes. As we were all dressing, the talk was mainly about the screaming. My associates could hear it clear across the Prairie, over by the swamp. Weird night, they said. Hope it's nothing to worry about.

2023.06.07 20:25 jimbobbypaul Ranking the Top 131 FBS Programs of the Last 40 Years: 79. Colorado State

Main hub thread with the full 131 rankings
The best Rams team west of the Mississippi.
Colorado State’s been consistently solid in the Mountain West with a few great years under Sonny Lubick and Jim McElwain mixed in. Lubick was so successful that Colorado State’s since named their field after him: Sonny Lubick Field at Canvas Stadium. Under his tutelage, CSU won 6 conference titles (3 WAC, 3 Mountain West) from 1994-2002. Before Lubick arrived, CSU hadn’t won a conference title in 40 years, and only 1 in the last 60. They owe this ranking to Lubick, and I think fans would admit the same.

Colorado State has a worse winning percentage than some teams lower on the list like Louisiana Tech, but has had higher highs with five 10 win seasons. Adept at producing quality skill position players lately, CSU’s 4 consensus All-Americans have been WR Rashard Higgins (2014), WR Michael Gallup (2017), TE Trey McBride (2021), and DB Greg Myers (1995). During the Lubick years CSU was a consistent top non-Power 6 team, appearing in the Top 25 at any point in the season for 7 straight years from 1997-2003. 1994 and 2014 as well. Notable NFL players have included LB Joey Porter, LB Shaquil Barrett, WR Michael Gallup, and TE Joel Dreessen.

Top 5 Seasons

Worst Season: 1988 (1-10 overall, 1-7 WAC)
It was a bad time to be a Colorado State fan. Colorado University, just a 1 hour drive from CSU, would win the national title 2 years later in 1990. Colorado State themselves floundered to a combined 2-21 record from 1987-88, with not much hope for the future. A 1-10 record featured 5 one-possession losses, and a last place finish in the WAC. A late season Toilet Bowl matchup between 1-9 New Mexico and 1-8 Colorado State decided who was placed in the basement, with New Mexico narrowly avoiding the distinction with a 24-23 win. CSU’s lone win was over San Diego State, who finished 3-8. QB Scooter Molander (great name) threw 9 TD to 22 INT, leading the country in picks. RB Scott Whitehouse (less cool name but still solid) led the team in rushing yards and receptions, totalling 1081 yards from scrimmage. And my personal favorite, backup RB Todd Yert, added 651 from scrimmage. Yert would actually go on to be a key contributor over the next 3 years, totalling 36 rushing TDs in his career.
5. 2014 (10-3 overall, 6-2 Mountain West)
Before Jim McElwain had his highs and lows at Florida, he was the up-and-coming coach at Colorado State. CSU was already coming off its best season in over a decade at 8-6 in 2013, and many thought they could take it a step further in 2014. CSU avenged last season’s loss to Colorado in the opener, winning 31-17 thanks to 100 yard rushing performances from RBs Dee Hart and Trevous Jarrells. They weren’t quite good enough to take down Boise State yet, the class of the WAC, and fell to 1-1. After that, things were great—they beat Boston College and future CSU coach Steve Addazio 24-21, a 10-4 Utah State team 16-13, and rival Wyoming 45-31. By the end of the year, #22 Colorado State was 10-1 playing 8-3 Air Force, and All-American WR Rashard Higgins did all he could (193 yards and 2 TD) but AF walked off on a 27-24 FG. CSU got blown out in the bowl to #23 Utah as well, once a former Mountain West rival who had since moved on to a stronger conference.
QB Garrett Grayson won Mountain West Offensive POTY, throwing for 4006 yards 32 TD 7 INT and ranking 2nd in the country in YPA. WR Rashard Higgins was a consensus All-American and a finalist for the Biletnikoff Award, catching 96 passes for 1750 yards and 17 TD. Jim McElwain won MWC Coach of the Year, and was scooped up by Florida before the bowl game.
4. 2002 (10-4 overall, 6-1 Mountain West)
By this point in time, Sonny Lubick had established Colorado State as a non-AQ conference power, winning 5 conference titles in the prior 8 seasons. This was the last of them, and the 4th best team of his. Led by QB Bradlee Van Pelt, who was originally recruited by Nick Saban to play at Michigan State, the Rams’ season could not have started any better. He out-dueled Matt Schaub and Virginia on opening day, winning 35-29. After that was one of the biggest wins in school history, beating #7 Colorado 19-14. Van Pelt spiked the ball into a Colorado defender’s helmet after a 23 yard TD run to take the lead with 6 minutes remaining. CUBuffs.com called it “one of the most classless displays of sportsmanship the rivalry has ever seen.” Colorado State flirted with the top 25 most of the year, getting up to #16 by the end of the year to play UNLV. CSU lost both that game and the bowl game to TCU, but still clinched the Mountain West title. Wins included top 25 finishers Virginia and Colorado, along with 8-5 Air Force and 7-6 Louisville.
Van Pelt won his 1st of 2 Mountain West Offensive POTY awards, throwing for 2000+ yards while rushing for 819 and 11 TD. RB Cecil Sapp, who missed the entire 2001 season with a foot injury, was an absolute workhorse, leading the NCAA in rushing attempts, carrying the ball 347 times for 1601 yards and 17 TD. Lubick’s final season would be in 2007.
3. 2000 (10-2 overall, 6-1 Mountain West)
Colorado State moved from the WAC to the Mountain West in 1999, and won the conference title in their first year. Going into 2000, they aimed to repeat. They continued to make Colorado’s life hell, beating the #23 Buffaloes for the second straight year in the opener. After a letdown loss to Arizona State, CSU began its quest for a 2nd straight MWC title, beating eventual 3rd place UNLV 20-19, 5th place New Mexico 17-14, and finally BYU 45-21, clinching at least a share of the Mountain West title. That set up 8-1 Colorado State vs 6-3 Air Force for a chance to win the title outright. Air Force took an early lead and CSU only barely couldn’t come back, falling 40-44 in the snow. The Rams still clinched an outright conference title the following week with a 37-13 beating of a poor Wyoming team. With a win over #22 Louisville in the bowl, Colorado State finished #14 in the AP Poll, the highest in school history. QB Matt Newton won MWC Offensive POTY, while LB Rick Crowell won Defensive POTY.
2. 1994 (10-2 overall, 7-1 WAC)
When Sonny Lubick took over in 1993, it can’t be understated how much of a graveyard the Colorado State program was. Before a bowl appearance in 1990, they played in just 1 bowl in their entire history, which dates back to 1902. Armed with 29 year old Urban Meyer as assistant coach, the 1994 team was the best in school history up to that point, and might still be. And nobody saw it coming.
Colorado State started by beating one of the classes of the WAC in Air Force, 34-21. A few weeks later it was #22 BYU’s turn, beating the Cougars 28-21. All of a sudden the Rams were serious contenders in the WAC. Down for so long, the unthinkable happened. #23 Colorado State travelled to #6 Arizona, one of the favorites for the national title. A few hours after the opening kickoff, the Rams stood with their heads held high, victors in Tucson 21-16. The win propelled CSU to #13, and the Rams hosted #18 Utah 2 weeks later. Utah won in a let down game, but CSU won their last 3 games to finish 10-1 and win their first ever WAC title and first conference title under Lubick. A 14-24 loss in the bowl to #20 Michigan showed they could definitely hang with the big boys, and the Arizona win wasn’t a fluke. Colorado State finished #16 in the nation with a 10-2 record, and were 12th in my rankings. Lubick earned Sports Illustrated National Coach of the Year.
1. 1997 (11-2 overall, 7-1 WAC)
As good as the 1994 team was, they only beat opponents by an average of 11 points a game, while the 1997 team outscored opponents by over 20 a game. After a disappointing 2-2 start with losses to Colorado and 0-24 to Air Force, CSU was flawless the rest of the way. A 9-2 regular season record featured an average score of 43-11 in the final 7 game win streak. 9-2 New Mexico and 9-2 Colorado State seemed like an even matchup on paper but it wasn’t close, with the Rams winning 41-13. A 35-24 win over #19 Missouri in the Holiday Bowl made up for losing the Holiday Bowl twice in 1994 and ‘95. Colorado State finished 17th in the AP Poll, and according to my algorithm, this is their best team.
The team set a school record for points (442) and TDs (59) in a season, ranking 7th in the nation in PPG (36.7). The defense forced 43 turnovers in 13 games, with future NFL starters LB Joey Porter, LB Clark Haggans, and DB Jason Craft, and was also top 10 in the country giving up just 15.6 PPG. QB Moses Moreno won the WAC Offensive POTY with 2257 pass yards 20 TD 9 INT, and was a 7th round draft pick by the Chicago Bears after the season. RBs Damon Washington and Kevin McDougal both ran for 1000+ yards, combining for 2223 yards and 21 TD on 6.7 YPC.

5th Quarter

What do you think about Colorado State? Do you think they should be a primary target of Pac 12 expansion? Why or why not? What game/playeplay is most memorable to you? Can the Rams ever recreate the consistent success of Sonny Lubick or was it a flash in the pan?

2023.06.07 19:57 w9jds GalaxyFrinder - Wormhole Mapper!

It's been a couple years since I shared about the mapper I created. A lot has improved, changed, and been added so hopefully this covers most of it. Here is the discord if you would like to join and give feedback, ask questions, and request features: Discord
GalaxyFinder is built on cloud scalable infrastructure and security. Used by over 2000 unique active users around the globe each month!
No PHP, JQuery front ends, bootstrap, python, etc. Here is what is used for this system: - Firebase Realtime Database - Each layer has its own security read/write rules - Firebase Cloud Functions (~20) - Automating removing of old data - Dumping data into a datalake as it happens - Triggering data consistency across the database
Static data uses information from Anoik.is and SDE which is updated regularly so triglavian systems, stargates, and routing all work appropriately.

Customization

I have created TONS of custom systems for this, and have open sourced a lot of the micro-services, backends, CI/CD tools and pipelines:
New Eden WebAPI (and Cloud Functions) - This is the backend authentication webapi that handles auth for the mapper (as well as cloud functions)
Node ESI Stackdriver - Custom ESI library I created for all my TS backends that also does all it's logging to GCP stackdriver
Firebase Action - Custom GitHub Action to automatically deploy static sites like GalaxyFinder and Account Management on commit
Setup Firebase - Custom GitHub Action for using firebase cli to automate deployments, emulation, testing, and more (improvement of firebase-action)
Firebase Trigger - Custom GitHub action used to update version numbers on deployments to trigger release notifications to users
Chingy Locations (Deprecated) - Somewhat outdated micro-service used to update player locations for the mapper (deprecated and replaced)
Capsuleer Locations - New location golang micro-service
Go ESI - Custom golang esi module I created and is used for kill tracking, aura discord bots, and more
Go ZKB - Custom golang zkb module I created to ingest redisq feed
Go EvePraisal - Custom golang evepraisal module I created to interact and apraise chunks of data (for getting things like full kill values of virtually fitted ships)
Aura Bot - Custom Aura Discord bot built to handle things like SRP, Kill tracking, etc. Built on top of go.esi, go.zkb, go.evepraisel, discordgo
Eve Routes - Rust micro-service that gets routes for EVE using a* algorithm to find the shortest, safest, less safe, custom routes

2023.06.07 19:22 autotldr As conservatives target schools, LGBTQ kids and students of color feel less safe

This is the best tl;dr I could make, original reduced by 90%. (I'm a bot)
As conservative politicians and activists push for limits on discussions of race, gender and sexuality, some students say the measures targeting aspects of their identity have made them less welcome in American schools - the one place all kids are supposed to feel safe.
Among them are a transgender student at a Pennsylvania school where teachers are directed to use students' birth names, a bisexual student in Florida who sensed a withdrawal of adult support, and Harmony, a Black student outside Nashville alarmed by efforts to restrict lessons on Black history.
'NEUTRALITY' POLICY MAKES SCHOOL FEEL LESS SAFE In late 2020, during the pandemic school closures, Leo Burchell started using different pronouns, trying on new clothes and shorter hair.
Last year, as a junior, he led a school walkout to protest a new law that banned instruction on sexual orientation and gender identity for kindergarten to third grade.
"I am more guarded with my responses, but I promise I will continue to defend our students to ensure they feel safe and welcome in our schools."
ADVERTISEMENT. Attending predominantly white schools means Harmony has had to go out of her way to learn about Black culture and history - often outside of school.

2023.06.07 18:53 d3ad9assum Do you guys tell your employer?

I was wondering if any of you guys have any recommendations for talking to your employer about medical cannabis usage. I got a job offer at a new company but it requires a drug test. I suffer from insomnia and have been using cannabis effectively for the last 5 years to treat it. I haven't used any in the last month to try to pass with a natural detox but I was using everyday about a quarter to a half gram at night. Maybe more on the weekend if I didn't have anything planned. Just wondering if anybody has prior experience. I have a neurologist letter stating I do suffer from insomnia and autism but the medication I was using at the time caused severe side effects and I found that cannabis was a much better alternative with no side effects. The only letter I have is from the medical marijuana doctor in Florida which is where I'm located.

2023.06.07 18:22 Kat113003 What do I do?

I’ve been friends with my best friend for nearly 10 years. We’re both (F19). About a year ago, she got into a relationship with this guy (m18) on the rebound. At first I thought he was really great cause he seemed sweet and made more effort than the last. For context I should state this is a mainly online, long distance relationship. I was initially really happy for her and glad she was finally being treated the way she deserves. I left for college and was excited to come home winter break and get to see her and meet him. However, first impressions quickly changed this. We had made plans in advanced for winter break and I was happy to include him. The morning of plans she canceled out last minute cause he didn’t feel like going. I pointed out how this made me a little upset, talked it out, nothing changed except she insisted I meet him in person New Year’s Eve. Was hesitant but went over to her house to get a sense of how he was in person. No greeting other than a fake grin and a quick wave. Complained about the food we were ordering for the night and insisted we order what he wanted. Baby raged when Taco Bell canceled his order and threw phone on the ground. When the ball dropped her threw his arm around her neck(almost like a headlock) and made out with her in front of us. Then my friend fell asleep and as we were cleaning up her house from the night, he walked upstairs like he owned the place and told us to see ourselves out. I was like “ oh I’m cleaning up before I leave cause Ik how her mom is about mess.” He goes “oh ok” and then proceeds to micromanage me and all my other friends telling us where shit should go as if I’ve never been to her house before. It was overall just a bad first impression and I’ve been quite about stuff ever since. Ever since then, she had told me and other friends things he has done to get opinions. Some of these include being blatantly racist, homophobic, and sexist towards others, gaslighting her, being extremely petty towards her, having no manners( her dad pointed out how he never said thank you when he treated him to food a whole weekend WHEN HE SHOWED UP TO HER DOOR LITERALLY UNANNOUNCED). A lot of the time when we’re out, she’ll point out cute things couples do and she’ll ask “why doesn’t he do that?” My only response is “if he wanted to he would.” My final straw is when he got into a fight with her over a haircut. He flipped out because she got bangs. He didn’t even see a picture of it initially. He hates bangs on girls period and felt that was valid to start an argument. She asked me how she should respond to him and I tried to be as eloquent as possible. He’s the one who started it and when he saw he was losing, he still tried to blame it on her and her “choice of wording” to tell him that she got bangs. I posed the simple question that if he didn’t care about it much and it was “just hair” as he said then why did it turn into a whole argument? The conversation didn’t go far but she spent the rest of the night asking me if her hair looked bad. I felt horrible. We were both so happy leaving the salon and then he did that and it ruined the whole day. I asked if this happens often she said sometimes but at least he apologizes and he does some good things too. I have yet to see anything good out of him quite honestly. Occasionally he will send her small gifts but he’ll never treat her to anything. She always pays him back and he never pays her back. She wanted help with homework and he only felt inclined to do it if money was involved. He told me once he freaks out if he says I love you and she doesn’t respond right away. I’m just at a loss. I don’t want to come off as a possessive asshole, I just miss seeing her genuinely happy. I feel like lately she’s been really careless and looking for temporary spouts of happiness. I miss being with her and doing things with her and I understand college changes relationship and everyone goes through their own personal struggles… I just want to see her genuinely happy again. I feel like he’s not helping the situation.
TL;DR In short, I think my best friend is in an abusive relationship and it’s not only affecting her behavior personally but it’s affecting our friendship and idk If I should address it w her
EDIT Thx u so far for the advice everyone. Quite honestly appreciate it and overall expecting the worse. If I lose her it’ll hurt terribly but I know at the same time that this isn’t healthy for me either. The relationship and me bottling is taking a toll on our friendship as well and I have finally acknowledged that no matter what, I will always come second best to the partner. It hurts but mulling over all of our more recent interaction and her actions toward me, I realize that I am second place. Despite her saying I’m her #1 priority, and how much she misses me, I realize I have always been the initiator and the one who calls and keeps in touch and it just kind of sucks. I love her but I also don’t want to go on feeling replaceable and unloved myself anymore.
