2023.06.02 01:26 Mongoose-_-Man Options for noisy exhaust
Howdy Cartalk guys, I am currently driving a Cobalt SS/SC with a modified muffler which is pretty tame at low engine RPM. Some of my condominium neighbours however have raised issue about it in the morning with me (even though it's been this way for months??). However, to keep the peace I would like to find a middle ground to avoid any sort of feuds.
Now, I am firm on not redoing or changing my exhaust setup, is there some sort of 'silencer' I can stuff into the muffler until I roll out of my parking lot to help keep it quiet? Thanks!

2023.06.02 01:26 SULTANGYPSYQUEEN Driving the Croatian Coast
My husband and I will be spending 14 days in Croatia for our honeymoon in August, so excited!
The first few days, we will have a car:
Zagreb > Plitvice National Park > Zadar > Pag Island (2 nights) > Dubrovnik (3 nights)
From there, we take a ferry to Hvar for 5 nights, then one night in Split before flying out.
Where should we stop along the drive from Pag to Dubrovnik? It is a 4.5 hour drive, and we don't need to drop off the rental til 8pm. I've gathered that it might not be worth the effort to stop to see Krka National Park, if we'd arrive around 11 in peak season. What about Plaža Velika Raduča public beach, or Brela, Makarska?
Please share any suggestions for restaurants, beaches, dive bars (especially of the metal/punk variety), and experiences in any of the places we'll be staying!

2023.06.02 01:25 Im_Ryan_AMA Parking takeover
Anyone know the laws around if pedestrians are allowed in different areas of parking? I know zoning is crazy complicated, so sorry if there isn't a clear answer for this. To be more specific, could I set up a table/chair in my neighborhood's free street parking outside my home and just hang out? No HOA, no special parking signs. What about free street parking outside businesses? Thank you!

2023.06.02 01:25 -number22 You didn't intend it
I know it wasn't your intention, and I know you said you don't care, but being able to see your daughter today was nice. I was just sitting in the park and you walked right over there twenty feet away and sat down for a few minutes. I got to hear her voice.
Probably the nicest part of my day.
It was only a minute, but I appreciated it.
I tried to just mind my business as usual. Face buried in my phone . No stolen glances your way. Just the once when you came into the park.
So, although it was not intended to bring me a little sliver of joy to my day, thank you. I do miss that little bug.

2023.06.02 01:24 IndyJonsey Older temple workers are being let go, so younger workers can be called in an effort to keep them from leaving the church.
I learned from a close friend today that serves at the American Fork Temple that the temple department instructed several temple presidents to "let go" of all the older full-time workers. They are replacing them with younger couples that are being called to 1, 4-hour shift per week. They specifically requested that they call young married couples with young children to serve 1 shift each every week but at different times so the other spouse can watch the kids. The reason, they said, is that fewer young couples will leave the church if they are in the temple at least once a week. If they are called to work in the temple, then they will be required to attend once a week and, therefore, be less likely to leave the church.
In the case of the AF temple, they need roughly 80 people per 4-hour shift and they have 3, 4-hour shift to fill every day, 5 days a week. That's 240 people per day, 1,200 people per week.
In short: they are telling old people that want to be there to go home. We don't need you. Instead, they are calling super busy young couples that are trying to start their families, finish school, get established at work, etc. to give a combined 8 hours a week in an effort to keep them from leaving the church.
So when you drive by the temples and see all the cars in the parking lot at different times in a single day, remember that 240 of those cars are from workers that ARE REQUIRED to be there.
When you hear at conference that temple attendance among young people has never been higher, remember that 1,200 of them every week ARE REQUIRED to be there.
When you're an old person that wants to be there, but your tithing-giving days are limited, they don't want you there anymore, unless you come as a patron to keep the young people busy that ARE REQUIRED to be there.
I swear, nothing about this church is true, all the way down to the facade they are building to make it look like members love going to the temple. Most of the cars in the parking lot are from members that are not there because they want to be. They are there because they have to be.
And what of the older people that rely on the temple as their primary source for social interaction? They're sent home and asked to return as patrons to keep their younger replacements busy.

2023.06.02 01:21 Significant_Fan_9213 Safest way to get around town at night?
Hi! I am coming into town with a friend Saturday for the Taylor Swift concert.
A friend of mine found a shuttle from parking at Millennium Park that says you will park there for $40, and they take you to and from the concert. She said it’s done through soldier field, and they do it for Bears games. It seems suspicious to me though. I also don’t love the idea of going and trying to find my car at Millennium Parking deck at like 2am when the concert ends.
I suggested we stay in Rosemont, and take the blue and red line there and back. She is saying that she “doesn’t believe they’ll be open” and that her dad thinks her way is safer.
Does anyone here have any input? Thanks!!

2023.06.02 01:21 lilnuggetmc Resort for 10th Anniversary
My wife and I are thinking of booking a trip to Disney World for our 10th wedding anniversary in June 2024. It will be our first trip there without our kids and we're trying to decide on where we would like to stay. We stayed at Caribbean Beach with extended family this past November and really loved being on a Skyliner Resort, but neither of us have ever stayed at a Deluxe or Monorail resort so aren't sure on what we're missing out on. We're definitely willing to pay deluxe resort premium given the occasion and from what I can tell, they're all within ~$500 of one another in the deluxe category. If anyone has any advice or can share from an experience for a similar trip, I'd appreciate your insights!
A few things about us
- We both love the World Showcase & Epcot -- her 2nd fav park is MK and mine is Hollywood Studios
- We're particularly excited about the return of the dining plan and the food is definitely high on our priority list. She is vegetarian if that matters at all.
- She is hoping for a deluxe experience with nice, updated rooms and a touch of luxury since luxury is normally hard to come by with two young kids in tow.
- We both really enjoyed the Skyliner
- We enjoy the parks but neither of us are "we need to go on EVERY ride" kind of people...we aren't going to maximize our use of Genie Plus
- It was a blast taking our kids on their first Disney World trip this past year, but I'd love to have an experience that is unique to getting away with your partner--any kind of special experiences or stays that normally would be less accessible with kids.

2023.06.02 01:20 home_run_king Need a little help with the finishing touches of my Titan Bingie with Umbrella build
OK, so first of all I don't know if this is because of Kodi 20, or because I am running the latest version of Titan Bingie, or even if I just never noticed it and it has always been there, but I love this skin! I can configure the "default" search that comes with it to search TMDBHelper for both Movies and Shows with a single query. (IE searching south park would show me both the movies and the TV Series instead of one or the other).
So I would like to know if there is a way I could create a single widget, that will show the last thing I was watching/re watching, (don't care if it was a movie or a TVshow) according to trakt.
Key point here, this is NOT in the library and would be sourced from Umbrella. (So mainly I know I can set a finish watching for movies, then a finish watching widget for TV shows, but I want a widget that will show me the last movie and TV show I was watching/Re watching. IF there is no match to that, then the widget just won't show kind of like how the finish watching for Movies wouldn't show if there is nothing to finish watching)
I did mess around with Autowidget a few years ago, but it seamed like it wasn't good for this purpose because if there was nothing to show it wouldn't just Hide, it would have a "place holder". Which tells me it must have something to show if you want to use it. The solution I am looking for would hide if there is nothing to show. If it matters, I would use this as a spotlight for my "PVR" Hub.
Hope this is descriptive enough and I really do love the skin and Umbrella addon if the developers of them happen to see this. I do have TV shows in the library, (only so new episodes will show) but with movies I just search for what I want to watch and I don't need them in the library.

2023.06.02 01:20 not_a_bear_honestly Any recs for cropped hiking shirts that aren't crop tops?
I'm pretty hobbit shaped with a short torso on top of being 5'3. Unfortunately, I'm also a bit overweight, especially in the chest and hip area. A lot of hiking shirts are too long and then aren't comfortable because the band of the shirt hits me right around the widest part of my thighs. Cropped shirts fit me pretty well, but I've yet to find a regular place that sells decent cropped shirts that aren't tight crop tops.
Anyone have and recommendations? For reference, the parks project Boxy-style t-shirts fit me really well.

2023.06.02 01:19 OnTheTopDeck Surrendering, syncronisities, and a new friend
I decided to work on releasing my resistance to surrendering to the universe. I had an incredible experience of meditation which changed the way I see many things, but despite its effortlessness and beauty, I am scared to go there again. There was zero resistance the first time as entering that state wasn't intentional, and even if it had of been, I would have zero idea of how overwhelming it would be in retrospect. It seems kind of ridiculous that I wouldn't want to be in a permanent transcendent state. The day after I tried to get it back but couldn't. Since then I've been my normal self at times, but have been spending around half of each day in a state of extreme clarity and calmness.
I haven't taken my ADHD meds, because my focus is piercing. I didn't drink on my birthday because I needed zero extra to let go or feel relaxed and happy. That state, the milder version of a transcendent state I can accept happily. It's just the stronger version of it, where I feel like I could happily clean my windows or be in solitary confinement for all my life, just feeling at one with the universe and seeing everything in a way that is so familiar somehow yet completely alien scares me. But at the same time, I realise that everyone only does *anything*, be it good or bad, because in some ways they think it would make them happier or their lives more tolerable. I see this is a shortcut there. It will completely solve my ADHD, although I think this milder state will do that on its own, and it would also sort out my problems with fearing closeness. I've already changed so much of my misguided thought process. I thought that these two things would always be dampening my life experience somehow. I see the solution, by in the same way I find it difficult to believe anyone elses love for me, and push it away, I feel the same way about this feeling of connection when in that state. Also, I feel like anything that feels *that good* it must be bad. It made me realise that I do also have some desires for the future still, and giving into that state would mean deciding to give up on them.
But nevertheless, I decided to surrender. To just let go and allow myself to receive the feeling. To trust the universe. I spent some time meditating and writing about it, and then I had a sense of urgency, like I was supposed to go out. I had nowhere to be. There was nothing I needed. But I just decided to trust the feeling. I just had a sense that the universe was taking me where I needed to be, and this was a test, to show if I was tuned in, to show if I would trust. I jumped in the shower, felt more urgency like I needed to leave very soon, and went out with the back of my hair a bit damp. I walked with absolutely no idea where I was going. At each turning I just stopped and went what way I felt I was supposed to. I walked past someone talking to a friend and all I heard was "This is a journey you've got to take". A bus stopped at the stop just ahead of me, I had no idea where it was going, I hadn't got that bus before, but had the sudden urge to run and jump on it. I jumped off when I felt the need to.
There was a beautiful park, which I hadn't been to before. I wondered if I was just supposed to be around nature, but it felt like more than that. I wandered through it, just taking in all the happy little moments I was seeing. Everyone seemed happy. A lady had music playing and was dancing with her two children, as I walked past the lyrics were "Hurry up she's waiting there for you". I walked up towards a fountain which was switched off and I got the feeling that here is where I am supposed to wait. That kind of confused me. Then a crow flew right in front of me and did a haphazard flutter and went back in the direction it came in. I thought, surely I'm not waiting for the crow haha. Later I googled and saw crows are symbolic of psychic awareness.
So I thought if I am waiting, I'm not standing by a turned-off fountain so decided to sit down somewhere. That felt right. I went round the corner and there was a lady in the distance on a bench and I wondered if I was supposed to talk to her. She was chatting to a friend on her phone. I was enjoying the beauty of the park. Watching the shadows moving, thinking that the present moment is where the shadows meet the light. There were a few people just sitting on the grass. The light was reflecting off the grass in a brilliant white, like an artist's highlight. The tree in front of me was the perfect shape, and very old, tree of life style. I was watching this but also very aware of most of the phone conversations she was having.
She was talking about the importance of supporting and being supported, but also supporting yourself. She was talking about joy coming from within and the relative unimportance of externals, and how she just wants to live and experience life. She discussed an issue that she was having without casting a single bit of blame. She was talking about the dichotomy of control and just seemed like a very lovely person. I was just generally wowed by her emotional intelligence and thought yup, you would be the perfect friend. I felt that she was who I was supposed to meet. And THEN she said in the phone conversation that she's just moved to the UK, and she really wants to make friends and live her life, do more stuff. And I thought that the universe couldn't make this any easier if it tried. I didn't know if she would walk off on her phone or not, so in case she did I wrote down my number.
I don't know how much time passed, maybe half an hour, maybe one, but she did go. A beautiful albatross had just wandered up to the bench which is symbolic of good luck. I called her, and she was still on the phone, and I was like "Sorry, I couldn't help overhearing your conversation, I know your new to the UK and want to meet new people, I think we've got a lot in common so if you want to do something just let me know". She was so happy and smiley and thankful, and it was at that moment I was like woooooah this girl is beautiful on the outside as well, I didn't see her face before. She's a petite California beach babe, and there I am, all five foot nine of me looming, and clumping along in my doc marten boots and leather mini skirt. It's only since my original mini-awakening type meditation that I have the overwhelming sense that we are basically all the same though. Our personalities are built around our wants, desires, fears, hopes and dreams, and we are moulded by past experiences, but under all those layers we are all sisters and brothers. Before I would have pre-rejected myself from being her friend because of our external differences. But now I just feel like we are both people who know what the shortcut to joy is. And I just feel the need to support her.
She messaged me and I'm so excited. We're going for lunch next Friday, and I'm kind of terrified when I'm in a less meditative place like "omg the universe has sent her into my life, that's so much pressure" and "What if she rejects me because of my past experiences which I've recently decided to be open about". At other times I'm just calmer and filled with happiness.
I'm not expecting I'll be having more experiences like this. I just know I will. I feel the need to document them, so will be doing so.

2023.06.02 01:17 CampCrystalLake1980 I got a CV removed with dashcam footage! I hope your account got deactivated, Shanya!
Tuesday afternoon, near the end of my shift, I stopped by Zaxby's to grab a bite to eat. I ordered, and immediately after, an order pops up on my phone. Zaxby's going 1.5 miles for $5.50. I accepted. Our orders came up at the same time which was VERY quick. The food was fresh and hot. I remember thinking, "This is going to be a super fast delivery, Shanya!"
I get to the apartment, reach in my hot bag, and this food is steaming hot. I set it at the door, go to take a picture and the spiral of death comes up. 20 seconds later, "Something went wrong. Application encountered unknown error" or some bullshit. I don't know about you guys, but when this happens the only option is to select "Handed Order Directly To Customer". I even opened up messages and tried to send a photo that way. "Message could not not be sent" Great. I'm not restarting my phone and I didn't want to call her while standing at her door, so I knocked. Shanya comes to the door. I say, "I'm sorry, the app wasn't working so I couldn't send you a picture." I realize now this is probably what got me in trouble. She picks her food up off the doorstep and says "That's fine." I end my shift and go home.
Later that night, I log in to schedule a shift and there's a Contract Violation. Order Never Arrived. Zaxby's. I only did one Zaxby's order that day so I immediately knew who it was. I thought, "Thaaat biiitch!" Her food had to be on-point. And we even spoke to each other! I immediately submitted details via the app. I included everything in that description that I could think of. Apartment number, customer name, what she looked like, the app glitch, and told them I would be sending video.
That same night, I got my SD card out of my dashcam and used ClipChamp to piece it together. I showed the interior of the car when I pulled the food out of the hot bag. You could clearly see it was Zaxby's. I then switched to the forward facing camera which showed me walking from my car, with the food, up to the second floor where her apartment was. You could see the building number in the video. About a minute later, I come down the stairs empty handed and get in my car. After finishing the video, I called support back to request an email that I could reply to with a reference number. I replied to that email and also sent a separate email to [[email protected]
) with a link to the video and the reference number in that first email from support.
Today around 4:00, the Contract Violation went away. It worked! I tried to include *everything* in this post so you guys can do this yourselves if you get a CV. I recommend getting the video sent the same day you receive the violation. It usually takes 24-48 hours to "Process" the violation, but get it in as soon as you can. Always try to park where your camera can see the address or at least a building number. I probably should have called her, but who knows if she would have answered. I have a suspicion that this person was a dasher, but I'm not sure. Shanya, if you're on this sub, shame on you. If your account isn't deactivated, I hope stray cats piss on all your future orders.
Be safe out there. Don't let the low-lifes win! And may the tips be in your favor.

2023.06.02 01:16 Naive_Possibility707 34M looking to make a new friend
Here's my poor attempt to sell myself like a bad infomercial. My social circle is pretty much limited to people I work with or short conversations with customers. I live in the US on the East Coast but grew up on the West Coast. I have two high-energy dogs, an Australian shepherd mix and huskie mix. I have a 1 year old son. I do enjoy cooking and making new dishes, but I am by far the worst baker. My favorite TV show is the office, please don't say parks and rec is better. I've had many random jobs in the past, with even random stories to go along with. I'm a bit of a nerd, I have a comic collection and random Star Wars collectibles, but I'm not ashamed. I have a few tattoos that have no meaning at all, and I plan on getting more soon. My music taste is stuck in the early 2000s rock, punk, and screamo. I'm just trying to make a friend outside of work.

2023.06.02 01:16 charm9774 Parvo risk in downtown Toronto?
I just got a new puppy (10 weeks old now), and am debating whether or not it's safe to take him out for walks around the neighbourhood before he's vaccinated. I've been told that it's super important to get dogs outside and socialized via walks at this age - and that carrying them around in a carrier is not sufficient, and the risk of not being properly socialized outweighs the risk of parvo. I'm in the downtown core, and I'd be going out to Grange Park and also for sidewalk/road walks, making sure I avoid dog parks of course, and also avoiding any encounters with other dogs.
I also asked my vet, who said it's up to my risk tolerance - but as long as I avoid dog parks and direct encounters with other dogs I should be okay.
Have any of you walked your unvaccinated puppies around downtown? What's your opinion on the risk level here?
