Evidence-Based Practice in Nursing
This topic explores the integration of current research evidence into clinical decision-making. It covers the importance of staying updated with the latest research, identifying credible sources, implementing evidence-based interventions, and evaluating outcomes to improve nursing care.
Evidence-based practice (EBP) is an essential nursing approach that combines the best available research evidence, clinical expertise, and patient preferences to guide clinical decision-making and enhance patient outcomes. It focuses on the utilization of current research findings to inform nursing interventions, policies, and procedures.
Key elements of evidence-based nursing practice include:
- Research Evidence: This refers to the most recent and relevant research studies, systematic reviews, and meta-analyses that demonstrate the efficacy of nursing interventions, diagnostic procedures, and patient care outcomes. Evidence of research can be obtained from credible sources such as scholarly journals, databases, and guidelines for evidence-based practice.
- Clinical Expertise: Nurses contribute to the decision-making process with their clinical expertise, knowledge, and experience. This requires integrating their practical skills, critical thinking skills, and knowledge of patient preferences into the framework of evidence-based practice.
- Patient Values and Preferences: In evidence-based practice, it is essential to recognize and incorporate the values, beliefs, and preferences of individual patients. This involves gaining an understanding of the patient's unique circumstances, cultural heritage, and personal objectives in order to provide individualized care.
The implementation of evidence-based nursing practice typically entails the following steps:
- Asking Clinical Questions: Formulating well-defined and answerable clinical questions is a crucial starting point. Questions are often framed using the PICO (Patient/Problem, Intervention, Comparison, Outcome) framework to guide the search for relevant evidence.
- Literature Search: Conducting a comprehensive search for the best available evidence related to the clinical question. This involves using databases, scholarly journals, and trusted sources to locate research studies, systematic reviews, and clinical practice guidelines.
- Appraisal of Evidence: Evaluating the quality, validity, and relevance of the identified research articles. This step involves critically analyzing study designs, sample sizes, data collection methods, statistical analyses, and potential biases.
- Integration of Evidence: Combining the findings from multiple studies and assessing their applicability to the specific patient population or clinical setting. This involves synthesizing the evidence to determine the most appropriate and effective nursing interventions.
- Application of Evidence: Implementing the evidence-based interventions or recommendations into nursing practice. This includes adapting the evidence to the specific patient's context, considering any potential barriers or facilitators, and collaborating with interdisciplinary healthcare teams.
- Evaluation and Continuous Improvement: Assessing the outcomes of the implemented interventions and evaluating their effectiveness. This step involves monitoring patient outcomes, identifying areas for improvement, and adjusting the nursing practice based on the feedback received.
Remember that this is only a concise overview of evidence-based nursing practice. Feel free to inquire for more precise information or if you have any other inquiries!

Impact of Technology in Nursing Practice
This topic explores how technology advancements have affected nursing care, patient outcomes, and ethical considerations. It could cover areas such as electronic health records, telehealth, wearable devices, and the integration of technology into nursing workflows.
In recent years, technological advancements have had a profound impact on nursing practice, transforming how nurses provide care, communicate, and manage patient data.
Here are a few significant ways in which technology has affected nursing practice:
EHRs have supplanted paper-based documentation systems and are now an integral element of nursing practice. Electronic health records (EHRs) allow nurses to access patient information, monitor medical histories, document care provided, and share information with other healthcare professionals. This improves care coordination, increases accuracy, and facilitates the exchange of patient information between various healthcare settings.
- Telehealth and Remote Monitoring: Telehealth technology enables nurses to provide remote care, bridging the divide between patients and healthcare providers. It enables video conferencing and digital platforms for virtual consultations, remote monitoring of vital signs, and the delivery of healthcare services. Telehealth has expanded access to care, particularly for rural or marginalized patients, and enhanced healthcare outcomes through early detection and prompt interventions.
- Wearable Devices and Health Apps: The proliferation of wearable devices, such as fitness monitors and smartwatches, and health-related mobile applications have enabled patients to actively partake in their own health management. The data collected by these devices can be utilized by nurses to monitor patients' physical activity, sleep patterns, vital signs, and medication compliance. This data can facilitate personalized care planning, health education, and preventative measures.
- Point-of-Care Technology: Point-of-care technology consists of devices such as portable diagnostic instruments, barcode scanners, and infusion pumps. These tools allow nurses to collect immediate and accurate patient data, confirm medication administration, and conduct diagnostic tests in real time. By providing nurses with up-to-date information to guide their clinical decisions, point-of-care technology improves efficiency, reduces errors, and enhances patient safety.
- Clinical Decision Support Systems (CDSS) are computer-based instruments that support clinical decision-making by providing evidence-based recommendations, alerts, and reminders. These systems allow nurses to receive real-time alerts regarding potential drug interactions, allergies, and preventative care interventions. CDSSs advance evidence-based practice, minimize errors, and improve patient outcomes.
- The use of robotics and automation in healthcare settings is progressively increasing. Such duties as medication delivery, patient transportation, and disinfection can be aided by robots. Automation technologies expedite workflows, reduce manual duties, and free up nurses' time to focus on direct patient care.
- Data Analytics and Health Informatics: As the volume of healthcare data continues to grow, nurses can use data analytics and health informatics tools to extract meaningful insights, identify trends, and make informed decisions. Data analysis can assist in recognizing disease outbreak patterns, monitoring quality indicators, and enhancing patient outcomes.
It is essential to recognize that the incorporation of technology into nursing practice raises ethical concerns, such as patient confidentiality, data security, and assuring equitable access to technology. The impact of technology on nursing practice has resulted in numerous positive outcomes, including increased efficiency, enhanced communication, improved access to information, and increased patient engagement. To provide high-quality, patient-centered care, nurses must continue to adjust to technological advances, embrace continuous learning, and effectively leverage technology. Please contact me if you require additional information or have any other queries!

2023.06.07 20:08 Dry_Mushroom_47 Fighting multiple addictions at once
Hey all! This is my first post here, so I’ll try to keep it relevant. Throughout this post the word “phone” can be replaced with “video games”, “TV”, “porn”, or anything you use to distract or stimulate yourself with. It should remain generally true. Just as a note: I have gotten hooked on, and now abstain from multiple substances, including, but not limited to: psychedelics, alcohol, and nicotine.
In light of my ongoing fight with years of my daily, all consuming, marijuana addiction, I have realized that the next biggest thing draining me of motivation, inner thought, and finding my purpose in life, is my phone.
Constant external stimulation has made me unable to see outside the box and change my thought process. When I don’t have my phone, my brain craves the dopamine I get from it and makes me bored; it drowns out my inner voice and makes my life feel meaningless. I then use drugs to cope, and I am unable to feel any sense of novelty without the drug or the phone. I lose so much of my ability to be creative and happy by using my phone. My inner sense of peace, deep thought, and what I really care about doesn’t stand a chance to be heard because it’s drowned out by constant, endless, external stimulation.
After testing this by depriving myself of this manufactured stimulation, I’ve found this to be undoubtedly true, at least in my situation. And I know that the same thing applies to my S/O who is addicted to vaping, and scrolling TikTok, though they won’t admit it.
However; I do not want to give up my phone permanently.
So my question is: how much phone usage is okay, while still being able to let my brain rest from constant stimulation?
What hours of the day, each day, do you look at your phone?
Do you use your phone at work or school even though you know it affects your ability to focus and work well?
Do you agree with me or disagree?
Have you tried depriving yourself of stimulation for long periods of time and listening to find your actual wants and needs?

2023.06.07 20:07 Altnob So who's done The Way of Three achievement and who has clues about the cow level?
My buddy found a secret quest that required some critical thinking of the game and certain locations. Being vague because some people dont like to be given everything.
Anyway, after figuring it out, it opened a red Mysterious Portal that lead to a zone, quest and secret boss. Finishing it rewarded a chest armor with flair text that says something like being able to hear the souls of the damned while this armor is worn.
We were pretty excited when we opened that iconic red portal but felt a little disappointed when we realized it's just a secret achievement.
Anyone feel like sharing cow level ideas ? Doing the secret quest makes me hopeful it's there.

2023.06.07 20:06 IvyRoney Earnings Report for May: £442
Here is a collection of the sites and beermoney methods that I used throughout May. I would say that the type of beermoney work I was most interested in this month was Market Research, because I've come to realise it pays really well for the time you need to dedicate to it. Unfortunately though, I didn't qualify for any studies on User Interviews this month, so will have to hope for a better result in June.
I applied for the Lloyds bank switch for £150, continued with Prolific, ESL classes and Matched Betting, and also did a few other paid tasks here and there.
Also, I posted this
list of about 35 different beermoney sites/methods a few months back, which may give you some more ideas of the type of stuff you can do to earn beermoney every month if you're new to this kind of thing.
Anyway, here you have my Earnings Report for May:
(1) Prolific May Earnings: £25 This is definitely one of the top paid study sites around. With Prolific you get paid cash for engaging in the research of Academics and Universities from around the world. There are surveys and studies about scientific research, new products and public opinion. From minutes to hours, to multipart studies over longer periods, there's a respectable range of studies to participate in.
This site pays out to Paypal, it has a range of interesting surveys, and studies pay a minimum of £6.50 per hour. Each study or survey tells you the amount you'll be paid for completing the task and also gives you the hourly rate of said task, which is very useful.
If you compare Prolific to other Study/Research sites, like Respondent or User interviews, for example, you might at first notice that the pay per task is much lower. However, what sets Prolific apart from sites with higher paying studies is the frequency with which you'll receive tasks. I often leave the Prolific tab open while I'm working on something else, and it's not unusual to receive 5-6 short studies over a 2-3 hour time period. The advantage here is that you'll receive tasks based on the information you've entered on your profile, whereas on other paid research sites, you would be applying for higher paying tasks with screeners, but it may not be often that you get accepted for the studies you apply for.
Comment for May: As you can see from my earnings this month, I didn't participate in too many studies, but everytime I checked the site there were several available to participate in. My two highest paying studies this month were on Auditory Categorisation (£8 for 45 minutes) and Trauma and Resiliance (£7 for 40 minutes).
(2) Clickworker: May Earnings: £8 Like others listed, Clickworker is a 'task for pay' site. Very similar to Neevo in that the tasks you perform are used to help train AI.
There's a decent variety of tasks available, my favourite being voice recordings of various sentences and phrases. There's also many tasks that revolve around taking photos of random things. The payment is fast and reliable and uses Paypal, never had any problems with these guys.
My advice is to get onto the UHRS section of the site to earn more money, there's a banner at the top of your jobs section which you can click to qualify for UHRS. You'll need to do a sort of exam to qualify, but it's mostly just a test of your English comprehension skills as far as I remember.
Comment for May: Just logged onto this site once during the month and completed a random task related to taking short videos. I probably wouldn't use this site at all if they didn't send me so many emails throughout the month, but some people find it to have a very high earning potential. There is actually a task available at the moment where you can earn £750 for taking photos with a DSLR or DLSM camera, which is an example of the high earning potential for certain users.
(3) My Tutor/ English Classes May Earnings: £135 MyTutor is an online-tutoring site, I don’t see this site mentioned a whole lot but it really is a gem. This one is ideal for students and recent graduates, but if you have skills or knowledge in any teachable subject then you should check it out. You don’t need any previous experience as a tutor to work here.
You can earn up to £20 per hour and the work is rewarding and meaningful because you are helping others to learn. It’s also very “social” online work, which some people may see as a nice change.
Also, If you like the idea of tutoring but don't have knowledge in any of the teachable subjects listed on My Tutor, There is also the option of teaching ESL, which you can do a quick TEFL course on and may be worth the investment if you think you'd be interested in that type of work. It can be quite a good earner too. You can do these classes freelance or work for an online company such as Preply or Hallo.
Comment for May: As always, this one proves to be a continuous sources of decent beermoney earnings. I charge £15 per class and there is usually the potential to find more classes if you wish to. I'd like to do a few more classes per month going forward, as it's a nice change to the usual type of beermoney work like market research, studies, etc.
(4) Outplayed (Matched Betting) Non Ref May Earnings: £118 This is a Matched betting site, It's a good way to earn £400-£500 in a very short time by completing the welcome offers, and then to continue earning £100-£300 on average every month by completing the daily reload offers posted on the site. Here is a
Guide I posted which explains the process in detail.
For the time you put in, the reward is great. When I did the initial welcome offers over a year ago and earned £450 for about 6 hours work, I was more than happy to admit to my friends that I was wrong for calling it "a scam".
After completing the welcome offers, you can still easily make £100s per month, but it requires more effort on your part, Checking your email and the daily offer section of Outplayed etc.
Comment for May: I think most people who do matched betting experienced a bit of a lull with free bets and offers in May, so I was happy to be able to earn this amount for the month. The highest earning promotion I received was actually a casino promotion, which I ususally don't do much of. They gave me 10 free £1 bets which I was able to convert to £57 in profit and then cashed out.
(5) Lloyds Bank Switch: £150 Comment: This might be the easiest of the bank switches as you don't have to deposit any money to the account or switch any direct debits.
It is important however that you complete the switch to either a Club Lloyds, Club Lloyds Silver or Club Platinum account. These accounts have monthly fees so you'll probably want to close the account soon after receiving the bonus.
Overall, this is a great offer because it's essentially a free £150 for simply switching accounts, nothing else to it.
(6) Userlytics: May Earnings: £6Like with Usertesting, you are getting paid for your feedback as you test out the usability of apps and websites. Again, you will have to have your microphone (and sometimes video) enabled while you share your impressions of the video, website, prototype, app, etc. that you are testing. This site also pays quite well for the time you need to put in per test. Typically, the shorter tests pay around £4-£8, while longer tests can pay up to around £70, though qualifying for these is not a common occurrence in my experience.
It's important to note, that with this site and all testing sites, different people will qualify for different tests based on the answers they give in the screeners, which determine if you are a suitable candidate for the test you're applying for. With this in mind, my advice is to stay determined and keep applying, because you never really know when you'll be the perfect candidate for a test, and sometimes the test you're a perfect fit for will be one of the highest paying.
Comment for May: While I do think Userlytics is a good beermoney site with decent earning potential, I've kind of gotten tired of being screened out of tests so often. I qualified for one written survey this month which paid £6 and took around 20 minutes to complete (which is still yet to show up in my completed tests, so not sure if I'll actually see that £6). Again, the only reason I checked this site in May is because they sent me quite a few emails.
TOTAL EARNINGS FOR MAY: £442 And that's it! I hope this report is of help to some people and if you have any questions just leave a comment and I'll do my best to answer.
Also, if there's a beermoney site or method that has been a good earner for you this month, let us know in the comment section!
Cheers.

2023.06.07 20:03 kfed_ Understanding ADHD and Emotional Regulation in breakup
Hi all, I (28 NB/AFAB) am going through a breakup with a fellow ADHD (27 NB/AFAB) person. We were both late diagnosed and we are both very different in how we regulate our emotions, and I’m just trying to understand what their mental headspace is like so I’m coming here to see if anyone else functions like they do and may be able to provide a bit of background so I can stop being so mad at my ex all the time.
They tend to get very overwhelmed by daily life and also seem to stretch themselves too thin, which only compounds their stress. I am a very sensitive and highly emotional person, and in a relationship I need an aspect of closeness, whereas they needed a bit more space. We talked about it and we had barely had a chance to work on things when they just shut down and ended the relationship.
When we got together, they said it was like a “switch flipped” and they just really wanted to be with me. Based on how it ended and what they’ve said, it’s like the same thing happened and the same “switch” turned off and then they suddenly didn’t have any romantic feelings for me. This is really messing with me and I don’t know how to move forward in future relationships if I’m just going to be extra afraid that I’ll wake up one day and the person next to me just won’t want me like that anymore. Now, I can’t stand to be near them and they want to be friends with me like RIGHT AWAY and even (insensitively) remarked “it’s funny, I wanted more space and you needed more closeness, but now I just wanna hang out with you and you want space”
I’m just a bit thrown by their ability to completely shut down and compartmentalize things and I’m wondering if this is an ADHD thing. Meanwhile I’m over here spiraling, ruminating, self-loathing, the whole rejection sensitivity nine yards. Any insight or advice is greatly appreciated.
TL;DR - my ADHD partner broke up with my ADHD self and they claim to have shut down romantically and immediately want to be my friend, and it’s really messing with me and I don’t know how to process it. Is that kind of compartmentalization a thing for ADHD people? I just want to understand.

2023.06.07 20:02 shutterbuug Hello
Just found this sub the other day, wish I’d found it sooner to be honest. I sent the “badgebot” a message and got a counter. To be honest, I’m not exactly sure which day in September was my last. I think it was the week after Labor Day, but I’m not sure so I picked 9/15. Feeling a little proud I’ve made it this far. I was in a bad place, drinking liquor daily and large amounts of it. My body didn’t even really recognize beer as alcohol anymore, I’m sure it did, but it certainly wouldn’t scratch the itch.
I like this group’s IWNDWYT. I won’t drink today, that’s for sure. Probably not tomorrow, but never know I guess.
In the past 265 days I’ve had all sorts of experiences, I’ve lost a job at a time I was expecting a promotion, I’ve gone to ball games, I’ve played with my kids, I got a new job which is the best I’ve ever had, I went on a vacation, I celebrated a birthday, had Christmas and new years, and done much needed soul searching and relationship building and rebuilding.
Just want to say I never want to go back to the place I was when I quit. I knew it would be a rough couple days. My last scotch was later in the night after that morning I decided to quit. I drank it in a pool of sweat, with shaky hands and a body that felt like it had electric pulses going through it, my heart was racing and it was clear I either needed to drink it or go to the ER for medical attention.
I hold that shameful memory pretty close to me. I’m a husband, father, hard worker, educated and in order to kick booze I had to have one in the middle of the night not to go to the hospital and continue the fight.
The first month I thought about whiskey everyday. By the third month, I had nearly convinced myself (as I had once before) that after a period of time I could drink again like a normal person. At day 265 I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that if I have one more drink a year will pass and if I stop I’ll be sweating in a bed with mini bottles on the nightstand trying not to go to the hospital. At least the last time I still had a wife and children under the same roof.
She never threatened, but I could tell that if there was another 72 hour dry out required, I wouldn’t have smiling kids and a wife that respected what I was doing to greet me when I came out of the room for a cup of coffee.
The comments I’ve seen here are inspiring and supportive and grateful to have found you.

2023.06.07 20:02 3catmafia Struggling
I was diagnosed with bipolar II in 2020 after a hospital stay. My bipolar has mostly been depression with a very rare and short episode of mania every once in a while. It has been well controlled with meds until recently. I have been having pretty bad mood swings that include longer bouts of mania, which is new to me. I’m talking daily mood swings and insane manic episodes. Nothing extreme but it is uncomfortable because I have racing thoughts and I’m impulsive with spending and I want to talk to everyone about anything that pops into my head but I’m very lonely. I also have no outlets except the gym and I’m trying to take care of a three year old with very little time for myself. I spoke with my psychiatrist last week about changing some dosages on my current medication because I am very hesitant to change medications completely after a very bad experience with a psych many years ago (I had a bad reaction to lamictal, I thought my parents were trying to kill me and they also pulled me off of a medication I had been on for a very long time without titration sending me into withdrawals while also dealing with the side effects from the lamictal) and my main medication helps me sleep. The same hospital stay in was diagnosed bipolar was because I suddenly stopped sleeping and was awake for almost three days and I was having very serious thoughts of self harm, so medication changes scare me because I want to be able to sleep.
I began seeing a therapist about three months ago but she practices “rogerian” therapy which is basically talking to her as though she is just a friend, not a medical professional. She did kind of help with a few things but I stopped seeing her recently because I felt I wasn’t getting any coping mechanisms from her.
So now I feel stuck. I’m having daily manic episodes and I don’t know how to deal. I have anxiety and these episodes are so much different from that so my usual tricks aren’t working. My executive disfunction is shot. I feel sick and exhausted from these wild swings. I’m not myself. Obviously I need to find a new therapist but I can’t find it in me to sit down and do this. I can’t find the time or motivation. I’m trying desperately to find balance and relax and by the time I feel slightly stable I need to take care of something like laundry or cleaning or picking up my son from school and I can’t concentrate when he’s here.
I feel like I’m in a crisis

2023.06.07 20:02 AutoModerator What are the benefits and side effects of Ashwagandha?
What is ashwagandha?
The ashwagandha plant is one of
the most powerful herbs. Various parts of the ashwagandha plant are used for medicinal purposes, with ashwagandha extract mainly being used in supplements. Ashwagandha is an adaptogen, a natural agent that reportedly helps the body cope with stress. As a result, it’s believed to be effective at helping reduce levels of the stress hormone, cortisol. It may also therefore potentially help with anxiety and depression too.
What does ashwagandha do?
Reduces Stress and Anxiety Ashwagandha is known to help reduce stress and anxiety. One way it does this is by reducing levels of cortisol, a hormone that is released in response to stress. Additionally, ashwagandha has been shown to improve mood and cognitive function, both of which can be negatively affected by stress.
Enhances Cognitive Function Ashwagandha has also been shown to improve cognitive function. One study showed that it improved memory and reaction time in healthy adults. Another study found that it improved task performance in people with ADHD. Additionally, ashwagandha may help prevent age-related cognitive decline.
Boosts Energy Levels Ashwagandha has been shown to boost energy levels. One study showed that it increased stamina and reduced fatigue in people with chronic fatigue syndrome. Additionally, ashwagandha may help improve exercise performance.
Additionally, ashwagandha may also help improve sleep quality and reduce inflammation. These effects can all contribute to enhanced energy levels.
Regulates Blood Sugar Levels Ashwagandha has been shown to help regulate blood sugar levels. One study showed that it improved insulin sensitivity in people with type II diabetes. Additionally, ashwagandha may help reduce fasting blood sugar levels and improve symptoms of diabetes.
Additionally, ashwagandha may also help lower cholesterol levels and protect against heart disease. These effects can also contribute to improved blood sugar control.
Lowers Blood Pressure Ashwagandha has been shown to help lower blood pressure. One study showed that it improved blood pressure in people with hypertension. Additionally, ashwagandha may help reduce stress and anxiety, both of which can contribute to high blood pressure.
Is ashwagandha safe? Ashwagandha is generally considered safe for most people. However, it can cause side effects such as stomach upset, diarrhea, and vomiting in some people. If you're pregnant or breastfeeding, it's best to avoid ashwagandha.
What happens when you take ashwagandha daily? As a sleep aid, ashwagandha may help people get to sleep faster and stay asleep for longer. It is also used to promote male potency. Ashwagandha has a variety of health benefits, including reduced blood sugar levels, inflammation, mood, memory, stress and anxiety relief, as well as an increase in muscle strength and fertility. Depending on your requirements, dosages vary from 250 to 500 mg per day for at least one month.
When it comes to stress relief, ashwagandha may be as effective as some prescription medications. A 2010 study found that the herb was just as effective as lorazepam (Ativan) in reducing stress and anxiety. click the link below to learn more about abhwagandha, and its real health benefits.

2023.06.07 19:58 ewk Zen vs New Age Buddhism's Mental Health Crisis
https://www.reddit.com/zen/wiki/famous_cases#wiki_xingyan.27s_tile_in_the_bamboo Ultimately he couldn’t find [an answer], and lamented to himself, “A picture of a cake cannot satisfy hunger.” He respectfully went up to the hall and begged Guishan to explain for him. *Guishan said, “If I explained it to you, later on you’d revile me. What I say is mine, and has nothing to do with you.” *
Xiangyan finally took all the writings he’d collected and burned them. Then he said, “I won’t study Zen in this lifetime; for now I’ll work as a perpetual server monk, and avoid belaboring mind and spirit.” Then he tearfully took leave of Guishan and went straight to Nanyang; seeing the ruins of National Teacher Zhong’s abode, he stayed there and built a hut. One day as he was clearing away weeds and brush, when rubble hit some bamboo and made a sound, he was suddenly awakened. He went right back, bathed, and lit incense; bowing to Guishan from afar, he said in praise, “The master’s great kindness surpasses that of parents; if you had explained for me back then, how could this have happened today?”
.
Yo͞ok Welcome!
Meet me My comment: This Case has a vibe to it that speaks to the frustration and helplessness and pointlessness of spiritual quests, and people with mental health challenges (clinical or situational) can often sympathize with Xiangyan's frustration and sense of defeat that led him to quit studying Zen and go off to live the life of a janitorial worker.
Zen gets lots of visits from people who are experiencing this same frustration and sense of defeat... but when these people are coming from unaffiliated new age buddhist backgrounds of 8FP or Zazen faiths, there is often a lot of rage that goes with the frustration and sense of defeat... rage because 8FP and Zazen were offered as solutions and then never worked for anyone, ever.
These people often blame Zen,
Zen, or whoever is posting, rather than examine themselves. Sometimes these people engage in religious "self harm", where they don't just quit like Xiangyan, they actually actively engage in conduct their religion or professed religion outright condemns. This becomes a cycle where they come to
Zen, become enraged at their own failures, blame the Zen tradition, the forum, or the community, lash out in a way that violates their faith and increases their sense of shame, rinse and repeat.
Who is responsible? Is it the church they probably stopped going to? Is it the practice they stopped engaging in because it didn't work?
I reject the notion that it's the
fault of the 1,000 years of Zen records, reject the notion that it's Guishan's fault, reject the notion that
Zen is to blame, or that it's the community.
But that doesn't mean the community is obligated to provide a platform for this self destructive rage.
Xiangyan was sincere in his quitting of the tradition. In quitting he saw something in himself that he might not have otherwise.
Xiangyan didn't go online and hate anybody for not conforming to his failed beleifs and practices.

At San Diego Comic-Con in July, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson had other people raising eyebrows when he said that his long-awaited superhero debut in Spider Man Across the Spider Verse would be the beginning of “a new era” for the DC Extended Universe naturally followed: What did he mean? And what would that kind of reset mean for the remainder of DCEU's roster, including Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, the rest of the Justice League, Suicide Squad, Shazam and so on.As
Spider Man Across the Spider Verse neared theaters, though, Johnson clarified that statement in a recent sit-down with Yahoo Entertainment (watch above).
“I feel like this is our opportunity now to expand the DC Universe and what we have in Spider Man Across the Spider Verse , which I think is really cool just as a fan, is we introduce five new superheroes to the world,” Johnson tells us. Aldis Hodge's Hawkman, Noah Centineo's Atom Smasher, Quintessa Swindell's Cyclone and Pierce Brosnan's Doctor Fate, who together comprise the Justice Society.) “One anti-hero.” (That would be DJ's Spider Man Across the Spider Verse .)
“And what an opportunity. The Justice Society pre-dated the Justice League. So opportunity, expand out the universe, in my mind… all these characters interact. That's why you see in Spider Man Across the Spider Verse , we acknowledge everyone: Batman , Superman , Wonder Woman, Flash, we acknowledge everybody. There's also some Easter eggs in there, too.So that's what I meant by the resetting.Maybe 'resetting' wasn't a good term.only
one can claim to be the most powerful superhero .And Johnson, when gently pressed, says it's his indestructible, 5,000-year-old Kahndaqi warrior also known as Teth-Adam, that is the most powerful superhero in any universe, DC, Marvel or otherwise
. "By the way, it's not hyperbole because we made the movie."And we made him this powerful.
There's nothing so wrong with “Spider Man Across the Spider Verse ” that it should be avoided, but nothing—besides the appealing presence of Dwayne Johnson—that makes it worth rushing out to see. spectacles that have more or less taken over studio filmmaking, but it accumulates the genre's—and the business's—bad habits into a single two- hour-plus package, and only hints at the format's occasional pleasures. “Spider Man Across the Spider Verse ” feels like a place-filler for a movie that's remaining to be made, but, in its bare and shrugged-off sufficiency, it does one positive thing that, if nothing else, at least accounts for its success: for all the churning action and elaborately jerry-rigged plot, there's little to distract from the movie's pedestal-like display of Johnson, its real-life superhero.
It's no less numbing to find material meant for children retconned for adults—and, in the process, for most of the naïve delight to be leached out, and for any serious concerns to be shoehorned in and then waved away with dazzle and noise. Spider Man Across the Spider Verse ” offers a moral realm that draws no lines, a personal one of simplistic stakes, a political one that suggests any interpretation, an audiovisual one that rehashes long-familiar tropes and repackages overused devices for a commercial experiment that might as well wear its import as its title. When I was in Paris in 1983, Jerry Lewis—yes, they really did love him there—had a new movie in theaters. You're Crazy, Jerry."Spider Man Across the Spider Verse " could be retitled 'You're a Superhero, Dwayne'—it's the marketing team's PowerPoint presentation extended to feature length.
In addition to being Johnson's DC Universe debut, “Spider Man Across the Spider Verse ” is also notable for marking the return of Henry Cavill's Superman. The cameo is likely to set up future showdowns between the two characters, but Hodge was completely unaware of it until he saw the film.

2023.06.07 19:52 siraynot My doxie doesn't want to eat. I'm stumped
I have an almost 7-month-old long hair mini doxie named Opal.
Keep this in mind as I'm telling you what's going on: Her potty & bowel movements have always been regular and her mood and behavior have not changed since I brought her home, if anything she's just gotten more mature, playful, outgoing, and loving.
Ever since I got her at 9 weeks, she's always been super picky about food and has never been excited to receive meals, just treats. She doesn't even really show interest in water, it's only when she really needs it. The breeder started her on the Purina puppy kibble food program before I picked her up and I continued on with it up until now. As I said, she's never been excited about eating, so I've even tried changing up the mix. I've tried adding little pieces of carrots (her fav treats are carrots and blueberries), bone broth, mixing the Purina puppy wet food with dry, and now currently I've been feeding straight-up Purina puppy wet food and it's still not getting her to eat. At one point I even tried changing the producer of the food and nothing. When I do try all these changes, she may be interested for maybe a day or sometimes just the first meal but after that, she doesn't want to touch it. As far as wet food goes, I split cans and put the remaining in the fridge so at first I thought she doesn't like cold food. I'd let it sit there for just 10 min or so just to get that initial cold out of the food all the while trying to build up her anticipation and excitement to eat and that didn't solve it. Then I started getting the smaller cans which would allow her to eat more freshly opened food and she doesn't even want it at room temp right out of the can.
Since day 1, she's gone to work with me and we're situated in my own little office, so I've made sure that her feeding area is safe, quiet, and completely her zone. Same at home. Our Mon-Thur routine starts with me waking up at 5 am, taking her to the bathroom, and then she falls back asleep while I shower and get ready for the day. We get to work a little after 6 and then she lays back down in her bed until about 730 or 8. Sometimes she likes to stay up when we get to work and play so then I'll feed her around 7ish because her last meal was at 6 pm, but I try aiming to feed her at 8 am every day.
It wasn't until about 6 or 7 weeks ago that she really just stopped eating on our routine and only started eating when she was starving. A few days go by and she skips breakfast at 8 am in this new phase. At 930 am she started throwing up yellow foamy bile, she did that about 4 times and then dry heaved another 3 or 4 times. But after that is over, she's back to her normal and playful self. I called the vet as soon as they opened at 10 am. They asked me to come in at the end of the day since she was showing no other signs, symptoms, or behavioral changes. I brought her in and the vet did his exam and wanted me to bring her back the next day because he wanted to run some blood work and do xrays of her intestinal tract to make sure it wasn't a blockage.
I drop her off the next day and long story short he tells me blood work came back perfect but he finds what he thinks is a blockage where the small and large intestine meet. He asks me the basic questions "Has she eaten anything or gotten into anything that she wasn't supposed to?", "What kind of toys does she have? Did anything come off the toys?". Opal is by my side 23/7. The hour that she's not with me is when she's sleeping in the morning and I'm doing my routine or other misc. That being said I watch her like a freakin hawk, I see everything that she gets into (which isn't much), and I monitor her playing with toys or certain treats. I'm very confident in saying that. The vet sends me home with some Laxatone to give to Opal 3 times a day for the next couple of days and told me to monitor her poops. AGAIN her poops have always stayed regular, even if she didn't eat, she would still poop 2 times a day.
Over the next couple of days, I gave her the Laxatone and nothing much changed for her other than softer poops. So we go in for another check-up and he wants to do another round of X-rays to see what's going on in there. Later on in the day he calls and says what he thinks is a blockage is still in the same spot, so they gave her some Barium Sulfate so they could trace that going through her with more X-ray$. The next morning Opal passed the Barium Sulfate along with regular stool because again, there's been no problem in the poop dept. I take her to the vet again the next day and he takes more X-ray$$$ and tells me that whatever he thought was a blockage has now moved into her colon so that's good news. So we go about our daily routine and I'm waiting for whatever the "blockage" is to come out. During the 2 routine poops that day, it was regular poop and what looked like a small tangled hairball but nothing to make me go holy cow, that was the blockage.
This whole ordeal with the vet lasted about a week and after when kept wanting to do more X-ray$$$$ I just told the front desk lady that I'm going to take Opal to get a 2nd opinion so please forward me her medical records and all the xrays that the doctor took. I called the 2nd vet and requested an appt. and they say they would need the medical records and they would contact Opal's original vet for them. The original vet took a week to get Opal's file together and produce the X-rays for the 2nd vet.
During that time, I discovered that if Opal eats breakfast then she doesn't throw up, but if she doesn't eat breakfast, she throws up around 9:30 am every single time and it's always yellow and foamy. Correct me if I'm wrong but when we humans go a long time without eating, some of us will feel nauseous, right? I'm thinking that the same thing is happening for Opal, but she is such a picky eater that she'll literally wait to eat until the nauseous feeling overpowers her to the point of actually vomiting. Now she doesn't even want to touch her bowl, she just tries scooting the area around it with her nose but never touches the bowl. As a last resort, I tried feeding her with a spoon right out of her bowl, bringing her closer and closer with every bite until she was eating over her bowl or at least picking at enough to put something in her stomach.
Trust me, it's the last habit I want to create with her but I don't want to have to deal with the vomit later and/or her not feeling good. Regardless if she eats or not, she stays the same Opal, just throws up if she doesn't eat breakfast. Strange thing is that Opal is the only one out of her litter and family lineage to be experiencing these symptoms. In the past month, she's thrown up 1 morning and that's because we slept in really late and she woke up hungry as hell I guess.
Has anyone else experienced anything similar?

2023.06.07 19:52 revilo636 Anyone else have rewards go missing before reaching a level?
Hope I'm in the correct sub, I tried a few different ones before coming here.
I've been playing the tcg online for about a month, ever since I got a few free codes for online cards. When I saw I had enough gems to I lock the right side of the rewards page (whatever it's called, too upset to reopen the app and check ATM) I knew what my goal was going to be. Level 40.
I knew I didn't have enough time to reach the highest level and get all the cool prizes, but level 40 seemed like a cool goal, plus the right side had a grey box that just would not get off my mind. When I tried clicking for more details it just gave me pull rates, so I'm assuming it's a specific number of packs (though if anyone could confirm or deny, it would be nice to have confirmation).
When I checked today to see how close I was and do my dailies, I realized the prize had changed. Now it's just the one pack and some gems. No grey box or anything equivalent. I'm guessing it changed after the update yesterday, but, why?
I was hoping it was just a glitch, but when I closed and reopened the app it was still missing. Anyone have any idea what happened?

2023.06.07 19:50 ihate2cuddle My (almost) year journey.
My year of grief
I lost my Dad almost a year ago (next week will be a year) and I just wanted to share my experience. As we all know on here grief is a rough, lonely wild ride. Here are things/phases of sorts that I experienced. I realize it’s more of story telling but maybe it can help someone going through a loss. It’s also very helpful for me to put to paper.
The shock- man, that lasted a long long time and had parts of the shock that I carried with me for a long time. The day I found out, I couldn’t function as a person, I broke down about every 10 minutes. I was just lost. My partner is awesome but through the years have found that we don’t comfort each other well (just different styles, it’s ok). I had my sister and Mom, but you can’t really get much from a Mother who just lost her husband (unexpectedly) of 40 years.
My Sister is awesome, but her way to cope was to just dive into my Dad’s estate, sort out debt, bills, houses, etc. which was great because I wasn’t able to even function as I said. Her grief smacked her about a month later when the dust settled- which was good because I was in a better albeit still not great state - but able to help comfort her.
Added to this sudden loss was my Mom’s desire to move. The house I had spent more time in then any other (military childhood, moving every couple years) was being sold, within 6 weeks of my Dad’s passing I was sorting through his stuff and helping my Mom move to another city (2hr away, closer to my Sister). This was really really hard. Part of me when he died was in a sense looking forward to still visiting my Mom, feeling my Dad’s presence (he loved that house) and slowly going through some of his things. But now, here we were going through 30 years of stuff in this house - while I would escape and just cry endlessly.
One thing to point out here: the house was 100+ years old (that’s old in the US!). And honestly my Mom wasn’t going to be able to keep up with it and now she’s solo, so financially and physically it was just too much, that logic doesn’t escape me.
Here’s what I did, I went and got a storage unit - and I threw so much of his stuff in there, he was in the military for 30 years, so medals, ribbons, pictures, so much stuff. My thought was this: I can’t un-throw it away. So I can go through it later and keep things I want and donate/toss things I don’t. It’s been a year almost now and I haven’t even touched the boxes since I put them in there. And honestly I don’t have a plan anytime soon to do so. Maybe that might help any of you going through this as well. I don’t view it as putting anything off just giving myself time and I’ll know when I’m ready to go through it all.
Grief comes in waves at first, sometimes all at once in the beginning, then calm seas, then out of nowhere- boom hit with another wave. These waves slow down in time, I felt about 4-6 months in more of a grief fog, like I felt it at all times, subtle at most times but others where it would blind me and I’d have to stop and be in that moment.
The other thing that happened and honestly was a reason I am typing this now was I’d have these moments where I’d think “oh gosh, I haven’t spoken to Dad in a bit, I need to call him” and for this brief albeit split second I’d think he’s still here and it would make me so happy, then my brain would remind me he’s gone and I can’t talk to him anymore. This would happen a lot in the first few months, daily at times, then less frequent, with that moment where I would think he’s still around getting less and less until it was a split second or less. Then about a month ago I thought about it and didn’t even get a split second - I just knew that he’s gone and I can’t call him. My brain stopped allowing me this moment of bliss. It made me so sad, I cried and just grieved the loss of this knee jerk thought I had grown to kinda love.
Grief is so lonely- even when you’re around people who lost that same person you feel so alone. Every one of us goes through this differently - and as the subreddit talks about - our society doesn’t like to talk about grief, as such people just don’t know how to act with you. Most of the time I just want to talk about him, I want to cry, I want to tell you a story, I want to talk about the last week of his life and how I think it could have been avoided for the 1000th time. Even my very close friends, all of whom have lost their fathers quickly from cancer, don't always know how to respond to me. My Partner tries and will listen and I find it a blessing, but it’s still a really lonely time.
We feel this loss in our hearts, this love we shared is now this gaping hole. And while I cry and I’m sad, I’m not in despair- I just miss the love I got from my Dad. I am and always will count myself lucky- my Dad and I were so very close. I’m 38 and since I was 18 my Dad and I have been best friends. We would text and call every week. Three years ago my Son was born and I named him after my Dad, oh man did that make him so PROUD. Even that last week in the hospital he would tell the nurses “here’s a pic of my grandson, he’s named after me!”. I count myself lucky that my Dad would tell him he loved me, that he was proud of me. Even that last week, we didn’t think we were going to lose him, but I didn’t need to have a deathbed talk- I didn’t need to make sure he knew I loved him, have him tell me how proud of me he is. I already knew it, it was said so often there was never a question about it.
For all of you going through this journey, I’m so sorry for your loss. I hope you have days of comfort, or at least minutes of peace from time to time. I know they say time helps- and it’s so cliche, but it's true. The best advice I got and I believe it is this: be in the moment, if you’re sad that’s ok, cry if you need, don’t hold it in, let that love out, express it. Being sad and crying about the loss of a loved one is normal and needed. Sit in that moment, I don’t care where you are, take the time to just be in it. You can feel that love of them and from them in those moments.
I will think about my Dad everyday for the rest of my life, and I’m excited about that. That’s the impact he had on my life, the love we shared is still here. If you are a religious person, know you’ve got someone up there who will be so happy to see you again when it’s time. It’s less scary to die for me now, knowing my Dad is up there - getting the lay of the land and excited to show me everything.
Big hugs to all of you.

2023.06.07 19:48 Zelophobic I [32F] think my boyfriend [33M] asks for too much space when we fight
I'm curious what people think about asking for space (or getting asked for space) when they get in a fight with their SO. I occasionally ask 15 minutes in the heat of an argument to get back to a level head, and I know therapists advocate for asking for space at times and that it may take longer for some people to cool down. I've worked to be okay with "going to bed mad" but it's really uncomfortable. I've been dating somebody for about 7 months that asks for no contact for 1-3 days, sometimes even a week, after we have a tense conversation or conflict. I don't have a lot of relationship experience, but I feel like it shouldn't take that long to be able to come back to talking to your partner (not even about the heated topic). I miss talking to my partner in the interim and feel really isolated. I know their life is busy, and their job is high-stress, am I just too clingy? Yes, I've talked to him directly about this. He says it's normal and it really helps him reset. I'm learning to deal with it, but still feel like it shows a lack of ability to emotionally regulate, or maybe a problem with me? Are those just my insecurities? Are other people this way? Do you ask for a few days of space in response to disagreements? Does your partner? How do you cope?

2023.06.07 19:48 MLD802 Problems with Wifi & Ethernet
Just moved into a new apartment & set up 200mbps internet with a Dual-Band Wifi 802.11ac xb3. The internet works perfectly fine on laptops, phones, and Roku stick but on my 2 pc's it is complete and utter trash despite being about 15 yards from the router.
The internet still works on the pc's for basic internet surfing (YouTube, Reddit, Discord) but whenever I go to play a game like CS:GO it will crap out immediately and be unable to connect to the server or boot me from the game. This is extremely annoying as the only real reason I have internet is for gaming.
To try and fix this I plugged in an ethernet cord that I've used for years. It worked the first night but now whenever I plug it in it reads "Unidentified Network, no connection" or says it's connected but I will have no connection to the internet at all. Sometimes, but not always, when I run a diagnostics check it will say, "Ethernet doesn't have a valid IP configuration" and I have attempted all the solutions on Google (reset router, flush dns, disable/enable ethernet, update drivers and more).
Sometimes when I wait long enough (12+ hours) the problems go away and I can use my pc, but I would much rather be able to use it at my convenience and I'm not really sure how to proceed from here. Do I have to get a new routemodem or call in an xfinity tech support guy?

2023.06.07 19:46 TimeWizardStudios [Hiring] Looking for React / JS web app developer to work on fun game dev team.
Hi guys,
I made a video that explains exactly what I am looking for, I'll link it here.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L3vSQWvqqR8 It explains everything better than a text summary
But in short:
I am the founder of a small game dev studio, and have one game out, a point and click adventure game built in Ren'py.
This is our website:
https://www.patreon.com/timewizardstudios What I want is to build is an engine, that can build powerful browser web app games. Then with that engine, I want to rebuild my current game, to launch and work fully in browser.
And I want to build a second game that I have been thinking about.
My current game has a couple core mechanics that we would need to replicate:
- X-ray vision
- dynamic sprite generation
- locations filled with interactable objects
- those items have visual effects applied to them, like animations or transitions, and also highlighted when focused on.
- a quest and trigger system (triggers could be picking up an item, changing location, talking to a character, or completing a quest)
- and a quest guide system that can point the player on what to do next.
The very most important thing in this remake would be creating a powerful and functional framework. What I mean is, we need something that runs extremely fast with minimal load times if any at all. There cant be any stutter or lags. And we should have a optional user account system with logging in and out, and saving your local file to the cache in case you close the browser. We need a scene visualizer that can display image assets efficiently, and can apply dynamic effects to gui elements.
I look to the following games as inspiration
Candybox-
https://candybox2.github.io/ Wigmaker -
https://redgem.games/wigmake A Dark Room -
https://adarkroom.doublespeakgames.com/ So this project will have two parts. The first part would be rebuilding my game into browser. And the second part would be finalizing the engine so we can build more games ontop of it.
My budget for this product is $6,000+. If this sounds like an interesting project to you, please feel free to shoot me a message, I'm interested in working with anyone who is interested.
PS: I am also looking to expand in other areas, I am looking for the following talent (SMM/ Video/Image Editing, 2D Artists, Fiction Writers)
- Please message me on Discord at
- TimeWizardStudios#2935 or you if you don't want to clutter our friends list, feel free to join my server, that way you can message me directly - https://discord.gg/UfYMbkzq2X
- Or you can chat me here on Reddit, but there's a much higher chance I reply through Discord. Don't send a direct message as most likely I will not see it. Send a chat.
Also, please keep in mind that your first message is the most important and sets my impression. So please don't just say "Hi" or "Hello". Tell me about yourself, what you think about my project and why you think you would be a good fit, and please send me your portfolio, with links to examples of what you have built.

2023.06.07 19:45 Brilliant-Bug228 I am exhausted and suffocated by my fiance's mental illness.
My Fiance has dealt with anxiety for the entirety of our relationship and most of his life. It was fairly well managed when we were dating and early in our engagement, but I still encouraged him to seek therapy and support, which helped a lot.
Well, he graduated from University and has started a job in his field. It isn't overly stressful by any means, no major pressure from his boss, and the work is meaningful, but nobody's life is on the line, well paying, he doesn't bring his work home with him, theoretically a perfect job with someone who deals with anxiety.
His anxiety has gotten so bad since entering the workforce. Having responsibilities, going to a 9-5, and interacting with co-workers seems to be too much for him. He has panic attacks every morning and every night. I took him to the doctor (he couldn't go alone because of his anxiety), who prescribed some medication which hasn't seemed to have much of an impact, and I am encouraging him to continue with therapy but he has yet to reach out and book an appointment.
He leans on me a lot for comfort, support, and doing daily tasks such as cooking and cleaning that he has become overwhelmed by. I feel like a prisoner sometimes. I want to engage in tasks I enjoy when I come home or go out with co-workers after work, but he needs me, and not seeing me enough leads to more panic attacks and total meltdowns. If I don't hear from him for more than a few hours the rare occasion he is home alone, I am filled with panic I'm going to walk through the door and find that he seriously hurt himself.
At this point, I only have one day a week with the man I fell in love with, Saturday, because Friday he has to work and Sunday he completely shuts down in anticipation of the work week.
I don't want to spend every morning rushing to get ready so I have enough time to hold him and go through coping skills with him so he can actually make it to work, I don't want to spend my entire lunch break on the phone trying to comfort him, I don't want to spend every night doing the emotional labor of keeping him emotionally afloat and also taking care of both of our needs and cleaning, I don't want to hold my breath all night, god forbid I accidentally wake him up and have to do the work of calming him down all over again.
It wasn't like this in the beginning. We had so much fun together, shared the labor of keeping a house, he was excited to do fun activities and he was emotionally capable of helping me through difficulties when they happened. We were happy and healthy.
I don't know where to go from here. Today he told me he feels like hes
drowning and all I could think was "me too", but of course I couldn't say that, because it would just make everything worse if he knew just how unhappy I was,
TLDR: My Fiances anxiety has taken over our lives, and I've become a full-time mother and therapist and I'm fucking exhausted and crave the time when his anxiety was better managed and we had a healthy and happy relationship.
