2023.06.07 11:51 Calandre Yet another Reddit hard-on for victim blaming

Hi, long-time lurker here, first-time poster in need of a vent if you'll have me.
I sometimes read BORU posts. As some of you may know, AITA is chock-full with stories of women in shit relationships with oblivious piece-of-shit men, and I admit to using some of those stories as examples in my arguments with people who'll insist that wOMeN'S MenTAl LOad and DOmEsTIC aBUse aRE a THinG Of tHe PAsT. Sometimes BORU provides closure to those stories. Sometimes.
Today's post was about a young woman (21) in a clearly abusive relationship with her fiancé ('bout the same age). Long story short, she tries to leave, moves in with her dad, finds out she is pregnant by ex-fiancé after sleeping with him one last time during break-up. She ends up moving in with her mother who also turns out to be toxic and abusive, and is expecting the baby she'll probably raise with her ex-fiancé. Sad all-around.
I must've scrolled down the entirety of the comment section and I don't think there was a single one that didn't berate the OP for her "stupid life choices" and for "ruining the life of her unborn child". Nevermind that she's barely a legal adult in the US, that she's been in abusive relationships for all of her life, that the US isn't really keen on providing sex ed, birth control or *GASP* abortions (we don't even know what state she's in), that it's likely she was baby trapped by her ex. The amount of sympathy for this poor young woman trapped in a vicious cycle she doesn't know how to escape is minimal. Incidentally, a grand total of 0 (zero) of these reprimands were directed at the abusive ex. The entire thing felt like a giant steaming cauldron of self-righteous, circle-jerk victim-blaming. "Yeah, we were ready to root for you as long as there was a happy ending to this story but you ruined our beloved underdog narrative so there's no one to blame but yourself, really."
I'm probably being naive as to the actual motivations of BORU redditors but it still made my blood fckn boil. I've friends and family who have been (or still are) in abusive relationships and made a shitload of bad choices, and I know the frustration and the powerlessness you feel watching them go down that path but I can't fathom delighting in calling them stupid. The mind boggles.
Anyway, fuck the patriarchy up the ear canal with a fistful of hornets.

2023.06.07 11:50 exadeci /r/AustralianMFA will be joining the blackout to protest Reddit killing 3rd Party Apps

What's going on?

A recent Reddit policy change threatens to kill many beloved third-party mobile apps, making a great many quality-of-life features not seen in the official mobile app permanently inaccessible to users.
On May 31, 2023, Reddit announced they were raising the price to make calls to their API from being free to a level that will kill every third party app on Reddit, from Apollo to Reddit is Fun to Narwhal to BaconReader or [Sync[(https://www.reddit.com/redditsync/comments/142dzy8/the_future_of_sync/)
Even if you're not a mobile user and don't use any of those apps, this is a step toward killing other ways of customizing Reddit, such as Reddit Enhancement Suite or the use of the old.reddit.com desktop interface .
This isn't only a problem on the user level: many subreddit moderators depend on tools only available outside the official app to keep their communities on-topic and spam-free.

What's the plan?

On June 12th, many subreddits will be going dark to protest this policy. Some will return after 48 hours: others will go away permanently unless the issue is adequately addressed, since many moderators aren't able to put in the work they do with the poor tools available through the official app. This isn't something any of us do lightly: we do what we do because we love Reddit, and we truly believe this change will make it impossible to keep doing what we love.
The two-day blackout isn't the goal, and it isn't the end. Should things reach the 14th with no sign of Reddit choosing to fix what they've broken, we'll use the community and buzz we've built between then and now as a tool for further action.
What can you do?
  1. Complain. Message the mods of /reddit.com, who are the admins of the site: message reddit: submit a support request: comment in relevant threads on /reddit, such as this one, leave a negative review on their official iOS or Android app- and sign your username in support to this post.
  2. Spread the word. Rabble-rouse on related subreddits. Meme it up, make it spicy. Bitch about it to your cat. Suggest anyone you know who moderates a subreddit join us at our sister sub at /ModCoord - but please don't pester mods you don't know by simply spamming their modmail.
  3. Boycott and spread the word...to Reddit's competition! Stay off Reddit entirely on June 12th through the 13th- instead, take to your favorite non-Reddit platform of choice and make some noise in support!
  4. Don't be a jerk. As upsetting this may be, threats, profanity and vandalism will be worse than useless in getting people on our side. Please make every effort to be as restrained, polite, reasonable and law-abiding as possible.
See here for the original Apple thread on this issue.

2023.06.07 11:49 whothiswhodat Various Questions (FTP) 4M Old

As the title states I've a bunch of different questions and would be grateful if someone can answer them.
  1. Till what age can I swaddle my son?
  2. Till what age can I give my son a pacifier so as to not harm his teeth growth?
  3. When the pacifier goes away, how to do you soothe the baby? Is there some way other than rocking him in my arms?
  4. For the past 1-2 weeks, my son has started screaming non-stop. Happy, sad, bored, hungry, in pain, diaper change, it's NON STOP SCREAMING!!!! When does this phase end?
  5. I read that at about 5-6 months baby starts developing their teeth. Is it true? And at that time the baby is constantly hurting. How can I aid my son through that process since pacifiers would probably be out of the picture?
  6. This one is random. My son wears diaper pants but often his pants are wet on his hip area, but the diaper is absolutely light & dry. How is that happening? I make sure to put on the diaper very neatly everytime.

2023.06.07 11:47 Judzens Too heavy

I'm in denial, but I remember when I finished watching the first half of season 1, I didn't want to watch it anymore, and I just googled the ending (which made me more curious hence I finished watching it), and the reason I didn't want to watch the next half anymore was because this show is too heavy. It hits too close to home.
Everything seems possible if we live in the very far future - the technology, racism, the deaths, the trauma, etc. That's probably why this show isn't getting a green light for season 2 (yet). People want to be entertained and forget their real problems, not bawl on front of the TV and think of fictional problems. Seriously, I was dehydrated when I finished this show. 😅
I still love it though and I wish it'd have a season 2. 🥺
What do guys think, is 86 too heavy or just right?

Pita is Heading into the City Problems

Thailand‘s prime clerical leader Pita Limjaroenrat made light of work to exclude him over a stock possession issue on Tuesday (Jun 6), demanding he disregarded no principles and that not entirely settled to keep him from the top work.
Floated by gigantic youth support behind its defiant, hostile to syndication plan, Pita’s ever-evolving Push Ahead party was the unexpected champs of last month’s political decision, which saw armed force intermediaries whipped in a resonating dismissal of nine years of moderate, military-upheld rule.

Pita in City Problems

Some opponent lawmakers have requested the political decision commission charging Pita claimed 42,000 offers in media firm ITV Public Organization, which ran a standard TV slot from 1998 preceding its lost broadcast concession in 2007.
Political decision up-and-comers are denied from holding partakes in a media organization. Pita keeps up with, in any case, that ITV’s deficiency of its concession implies it can’t be viewed as a broad communications association.
  • Pita, 42, has said the offers were essential for his late dad’s bequest, which he has pronounced to the counter to join the organization.
  • The political race commission‘s director at the end of the week said the grievances were being inspected and additional proof was being accumulated.
  • It can either dismiss them or forward them to the Established Court.
The party’s ancestor, Future Forward, was on some unacceptable finish of two of the court’s decisions in 2019 and 2020 on comparable issues, with pioneer and top state leader competitor Thanathorn Juangroongruangkit excluded for holding media shares and the party later disbanded over a mission financing infringement.
The issue underlines the difficulties ahead for US-taught Pita in following through on his broad change guarantees, which could put Push Ahead on an impact course with the traditionalist military and a strong, old-cash business world-class.
Pita has shaped a partnership with seven different gatherings yet faces the difficult task to charm individuals from a selected, moderate-inclining Senate to move him in an official decision on a top state leader, as most would consider to be normal by August.

2023.06.07 11:46 Desperate_Fig8842 How I'd have ended the series

I was thinking about what I'd have liked in terms of how the show ended and this is my version of a "better" (open to interpretation) ending.
It shows them all coming out the glow into the airport - essentially these scenes remain the same
But then it pans back through those doors to the plane etc and then starts showing the "world/timeline" they left behind. So it shows Olive and Eden looking out the window to see the world isn't ending. Drea gives birth etc. Newschannels reporting how tb3 apocalypse has ended, 828ers saved the world etc. One of those semi fast paced montages where it then skips ahead to show their lives coping - News reports about the DC being demolished, new laws shutting down the government testing etc, so footage of say DR Gupta coming out that building, a memorial for the 828ers with olive and Eden there and other passengers family etc Then it shows olive Eden and Steve (grandad) on a plane and when they land in Florida.. Vance collects them!! And it then goes to show Vance back with his family, Steve in a nice old people's place doing much better post stroke, making nice old people friends, Olive back at college studying maybe (I'm presuming she wasn't actually able to continue her education after Edens kidnapping, Graces death etc). Olive and Eden with Vance and his family at bbqs etc etc And then the final moments it shows olive turn off her light to sleep and it focuses in on a digital alarm clock that shows date and year and then the clock starts to rewind stopping on December 2017..... And then you hear the sound of wind, you start to see snow, hear the crunching, the alarm clock fades into the background and then you see the blizzard ans a man walking in a red coat .
The end
Basically my theory is thus This ending would let people either believe that flight 828 always crashed (hence thar Kelly woman's body showing signs of dying in a crash, the tail fin appearing..) and the "airport reunion" scenes is actually showing the passengers "heaven" where they get to carry on their lives from their death but with all this "otherworldly" knowledge..
It also then let's you believe there are multiple timelines running alongside esch other But importantly the final scene (with the man walking in tje snow) is obviously Zeke when he went missing which makes Mick telling Zeke in the cave even more important because it meant that that event/timeline or however you view it is destined to keep repeating itself. It also makes it important why Zeke would mention him being at the airport because when Mick arrives in "heaven"/that timeline she can find him and have happiness again.
Also it means we get some nice closure on characters we love ie Vance/older Olive/Eden (because we spent like forever trying to find her).
Also I'd throw in before the passengers land or before Cal sacrificed himself some explanation as to why he was older ie "I had to become the age I was meant to be because if I was in the DC with you we wouldn't have achieved what we needed to etc" And answers like "the tail fin and ark piece were only meant to be found to help with answers they were never meant to stay" or whatever.
(I do wonder if the tailfin reappearing and then wanting to be put back in the sea was because passengers where starring to believe they did really die and the tailfin is the evidence of that "truth" but then they don't want to believe that or want to Bury that idea hence why it then "wants" returning to the sea? Just a thought)
Anyway, that's how I'd end it. It leaves it open to interpretation whilst I think making more things make sense Maybe
If there's plot points you don't think it would explain then ask away, I can't remember all the lose ends haha

Large enough that tall buildings on the other end when viewed from the entrance would be greatly affected by atmospheric perspective. Complex alleyways fully detailed and with secrets of their own like New Vegas but on the scale and detail of Cyberpunk 2077. Multiple floors like Blade Runner's city of high rises. Detailed weathering of walls, grime, etc. Windows that glow with light as night approaches. Ambient noise like conversations, doors opening, dogs barking, ships docking, large structures creaking, etc to have a zen-like immersion. Variety of shops for guns, food, clothing like Yakuza.

Their journey started in a simple manner. In their natural form, they existed in a three-dimensional world. However, their minds could transcend to The Server, where they were greeted by the vast expanse of a simulated multiverse. Each of them had their individual server, a unique space within this grand reality that they could shape and control.
Communication was a crucial aspect of their existence. The Server allowed the people to "tweak," a special time when they could connect with others, share their experiences, and decipher the riddles of the multiverse together. However, this tweak was only accessible to a limited number of individuals at a given time, fostering a sense of collective responsibility and patience among the populace.
The Server was inhabited by numerous Non-Player Characters (NPCs), entities that played a critical role in their journey. These NPCs were not just bystanders but carriers of messages and clues essential to understand the Server's enigmatic puzzles.
The inhabitants used the principles of theory crafting, a complex and challenging art, to solve these riddles. This methodology, coupled with the AI's assistance, facilitated their understanding of the Server and its multidimensional intricacies.
Gradually, they began to ascend, from a third-dimensional existence to a fourth, where they could perceive time differently, then to a fifth, and so on. Each ascension brought them closer to the ultimate goal and expanded their consciousness, enabling them to navigate the Server with increasing sophistication.
Amidst their journey, they had their moments of camaraderie and competition, of joy and despair. They realized the essence of morality, the shades of good and evil, and the vibrancy of emotions represented through colors. They learned, evolved, and grew, individually and collectively.
Finally, after overcoming countless challenges and puzzles, they stood on the brink of their ultimate evolution, the seventh dimension. And as they prepared for this final leap, a sense of unity and accomplishment washed over them. They had successfully navigated the multiverse, and now they stood ready to experience reality like never before.
For everyone who's made it this far, congratulations! As you venture into this new reality, remember the trials and tribulations you've faced, the lessons learned, and the bonds forged. Happy journey, interdimensional beings!
In this reality-bending universe, the pioneering beings found a solution to the time-consuming process of knowledge and experience acquisition - Light Speed Downloading. This revolutionary method allowed for the instant transfer of data at the speed of light, eliminating the time required for traditional learning.
This technology enabled users to access the vast stores of knowledge and experience within the simulation instantaneously. Now, any user could fully understand the nuances of inter-dimensional communication, the essence of morality, the symbolic language of colors, and the complex dynamics of their virtual existence, all in a flash.
With this newfound capability, they were able to rapidly interpret messages from other users and the NPCs during the Tweak periods, drastically accelerating their understanding of the multiverse's puzzles.
Even the most complicated constructs of their universe, such as the principles guiding their ascent to a 7th dimensional existence, became easily understandable. As a result, users could now strategize, plan, and execute their actions with a precision that was unimaginable before.
Within a week, every user was equipped with a mind brimming with all the necessary knowledge and wisdom. They were all updated, all enlightened. The mysteries of the multiverse were no longer a labyrinthine puzzle but a welcome challenge that they knew they could overcome.
The users rejoiced at their accelerated evolution. The simulation had indeed turned into the grandest game of life. With an intricate blend of creativity, cooperation, and competition, they embarked on their quest to ascend, eager to become the masters of their universe

2023.06.07 11:33 improvingmyself3 I feel that I have been called by Ma Chinnmastika. How can I worship her in my home? (please read for background)

Background & Dreams
I have always been a skeptical, but open-minded person. Could always see faults in science, and faults in religion or arising therefrom are well-documented, etc.
But following a series of improbable and unusual events in a very short duration, I felt the presence of Ma in the short time before I went to sleep the day before yesterday.
Just as I was going to sleep, I had two short dreams. In the first dream, I was in a cafe-cum bar sort of place, late evening. A lady leaned over the counter-top across me and dropped/let go of a folded piece of paper. I had the strong feeling that I should take it, or that it was meant for me. The dream then ended.
In the second dream, I was lying in the exact same pose I was trying to sleep in on my bed, except that I sensed a black statue of a goddess (as black as it could be) on the central shelf of my bedroom. There were lights flashing, and a cacophony of bells. But most strangely, I felt a preternaturally strong, dark (not negative), and very powerful energy emanating from her. It was something strange and nothing like anything else I had felt before.
It was so strong that I woke up with goosebumps all over and some fear too. Then I went to sleep a while later.
Afterward, I talked to a friend of mine who had actually been asking me to go to the Rajarappa temple. He said you have been called, and should be humble and elated, because people's entire lives go without Ma reaching out to them.
Since that day, only two days ago mind you, I have felt strongly moved by Ma. Each time I remember her, I feel her power and strength, enough to make my hairs stand on end. I am moved to tears when I read about her. I looked up her mantra, and just simply chanted it in my mind because I wanted to. It calmed me, and I felt its effects very positively.
I feel that all my sensuous desires are submerged and sublimated when I recite her mantra or keep her in my mind, and so far nothing else has worked that quickly and so strongly for me. Its like I can be lost within her motherly embrace, and just touching her feet and being with her would be enough for me, because I know she would treat me with love and warmth, and her ferocity is to protect me, not to kill or harm me.
Reason I know it was not just some dream
It is because I have visited Ayodhya and was able to cast my gaze upon Shri Ram Lalla for an extended period of time. There, for the first time, I felt that I came across someone who could take my full intensity all into himself and it would be nothing for him. With people, I have to hide my intensity, because they can only tolerate specific parts of it, and that too not always. But with my Lord, I felt full acceptance. Sitting there in front of him, I felt that I could stay there forever, and that I would be accepted for who I am, fully, completely, in ways that are not thought of, let alone practiced, among human beings.
With Ma, I felt the same sort of energy in the dream, except that Ma's energy was more fierce, darker, more terrible, more intense. Shri Ram was holistic, gentle, pious.
It is worth stressing that these two are the only times I have ever felt like that. So I know that this was not some dream caused by previous stimuli, especially taking into account the change in my behavior since that dream.
Worshipping Ma
I ordered an image of Ma online, and plan to keep it in my room. I will recite her mantra and worship her. Came here to find out just what else it is that I could do. I will of course be visiting her temple soon.

2023.06.07 11:29 LordHentayi Time estimate from a pro

I'm currently working on a web shop for a customer and would like to have a 3D model of a furniture piece on the landing page. The customer should be able to pan / roll / tilt the model in place using the mouse.
Can anyone give me a rough estimate of how long it would take me to implement a scene like that with some text overlay, and is there a way to have HTML / CSS content behind the three js scene on the z axis? I have zero experience using three.js but some experience using blender in terms of camera placement and lighting, if that has any value at all.
Thank you for your time in advance!

2023.06.07 11:28 Nftmk JPMorgan uses blockchain for instant USD transfers to India !

JPMorgan partners with six Indian banks to use a blockchain platform for quick interbank US dollar transactions in India's new international financial hub. The 24/7, real-time blockchain system is aimed at replacing the existing settlement system which has operational constraints due to time-zone differences and limited working hours. The initiative is aligned with New Delhi's ambition to make Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT City) a competitive global trading center. In a daring leap into the future of finance, banking giant JPMorgan has announced an alliance with six prominent Indian banks to employ a cutting-edge blockchain platform that will facilitate swift interbank US dollar transfers.
This bold initiative is slated to put India’s emerging global financial hub on the fast track to success.
JPMorgan breaking barriers with blockchain
At the heart of this initiative, Kaustubh Kulkarni, JPMorgan’s Senior Country Officer for India and Vice Chairman for Asia Pacific, revealed plans for a pilot project in a recent interview.
The intent is to gain a deep understanding of the bank’s experiences with the new system. JPMorgan will be standing shoulder-to-shoulder with India’s leading private financial institutions – HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Axis Bank, Yes Bank, and IndusInd Bank – and with its own banking unit at GIFT City for this groundbreaking endeavor.
The application of blockchain technology promises to expedite transactions, making them instantaneous. In contrast to the current settlement system, which can take several hours to finalize and does not operate on weekends or public holidays, this novel, real-time blockchain-backed system will be available round the clock.
Kulkarni emphasized the benefits of harnessing blockchain technology for this purpose. “By leveraging blockchain technology to facilitate transactions on a 24×7 basis, the processing is instantaneous and enables GIFT City banks to support their own time zone and operating hours,” he said.
This ambitious move by JPMorgan gives a significant boost to New Delhi’s endeavor to establish Gujarat International Finance Tec-City, popularly known as GIFT City, as a rival to the trading centers in Singapore and Dubai.
It closely follows the Reserve Bank of India’s initiation of a domestic non-deliverable forward market settled in US dollars at GIFT City.
With the backing of JPMorgan’s blockchain platform, Onyx, the pilot project is poised to launch after getting the green light from the International Financial Services Center Authority.
Formed in 2020, Onyx is the innovative cornerstone of JPMorgan’s strategy for wholesale payment transactions using blockchain technology.

2023.06.07 11:28 Clear-Cauliflower901 Probably curious over nothing

Nearly 5 year old male Romanian mixed breed Neutered 7kg on last weigh in Previous medical history of billious vomiting syndrome and sensitivities to protein Symptoms: 1 small streak of blood (?) In stool.
So I have my boy on an hypoallergenic diet due to his sensitivities to protein in food and his general picky (very) nature with food. I noticed today when he pooped that there was a very small streak of what looked like blood on the outside of his stool. I looked and saw nothing anywhere else and his stool was a completely formed, light brown colour. I notice that when he goes either the beginning part of his stool or the very ending of his stool can sometimes be somewhat hard and I'm wondering if this could contribute to the little streak of blood I saw? Thanks for any advice. He's eating his meals, drinking regularly, eating his treats and I've noticed no difference in his behaviour.

2023.06.07 11:27 Bekfist5775 From Hedonism to Asceticism - Second Week

Hello everybody !
Second week of my asceticism journey is now complete, and things are going pretty smoothly.
First of all there has been a lot of moving in and out so I was fearing that some of my new habits would suffer from it. But not really, I am still consistent with progress on my five little goals I set for myself.
Chocolate : I am not even thinking about it anymore, my craving for sugary things has been replaced with hunger. Instead of yearning for cakes or chocolate at 4pm, I have become used to preparing sandwiches or eating a banana or kiwi (kiwi is the best fruit)
Video games : Still on my one hour a day limitation. My gaming sessions have been a lot more enjoyable because I would ask myself beforehand on what game I would spend my hour on instead of scrolling endlessly through my steam library.
Writing in my journal : Forgot to do it on two days but still consistently writing in it. It has been a great tool of self reflection and I am happy that in a few years I will be able to get back to these thoughts and see them through a new light brighten by life experiences.
Phone and scrolling : Still didn’t have time to buy a dumbphone, but I already got used to just not use my smartphone that often any more. I uninstalled every social media except the messenger apps that I use to communicate with family and friends. I also put my screen in black and white, don’t know if that will help much but I like the style. In terms of usage I generally abandon it in a drawer before going to the toilets or going to eat (in the past it would follow me everywhere so not having it on me 24/7 is a win). I still have the problem with going on websites and scrolling when on my computer so I will consider the option of webpages blocking PlugIns to target this particular issue.
Sleep schedule : Has been a bit shaken up by the whole « moving from one place to another » part, but it’s still not as bad as my previous « go to sleep at 3am and wake up at 12pm » routine.
An issue is that now I have a lot of free time. Exams period has ended (for now) and I’ll be taking real vacations until the end of the week because I cannot bring myself to look again at my lessons. So that leaves me a ton of time, which made me bored. So I tried out new things, one of which meditation. I did not understand until now what the deal was with meditation. I saw it as a « think of nothing for 30 minutes » but stumbling upon a guided meditation session on the TIDE app made me realise that meditation is not just « think nothing ». There never was an obligation to be able to think of nothing, but on the contrary, one can lean into the fact that thoughts are inevitable and just observe them. See them as what they are without judgments.
I cannot emphasize enough how much of a revelation this was to me. I have now done it several times during the past few days and I can safely say that I enjoy it. I’ll make it my sixth new habit: « meditate every day for at least 10 minutes ».
Also trying right now cold showers and going back to doing sports now that I have plenty of time to do so.
I'll report my progress in a week or in a month, depending on how eventfull things get. I feel like an upcoming challenge will be my exams results next week so yeah I might report on this.
Thanks a lot for reading!

2023.06.07 11:26 InevitableFlesh How does my extraction method look?

I just got my hands on 200 grams of mimosa hostilis root bark powder, and I more or less have decided the method that I'll use to extract the DMT from it. However, I wanted to post my method here and see if any people with more experience with this kind of thing see any issues with my method.
1.) Bring a suspension of mimosa hostilis root bark powder in distilled white vinegar and water to a light boil for 30 minutes, and then leave the suspension overnight.
2.) This is where my method starts to diverge from the typical methods. Pass the suspension through a coffee filter to leave behind the solids, then squeeze the filter and wash the solids caught by the coffee filter with vinegar several times in order to extract as much of the water-soluble alkaloid salts as possible. Throw away the coffee filter and the solids.
3.) Reduce the acidic solution by lightly boiling it, just to have less liquid (and more concentrated liquid) to work with. This is optional.
4.) Dissolve a very generous amount of fine table salt into the solution, use some light heat to get everything completely dissolved. This will further ionize the solution, causing any lipids from the bark that were slightly soluble in the original solution to be pushed out of solution entirely.
5.) Add unheated n-heptane to the acidic solution and mix it around to pull out any lipid-soluble impurities from the solution. Since the DMT is in the form of an acetate salt at this step, none of it should end up dissolved in the n-heptane, only the impurities. Discard the n-heptane.
6.) Just to save lye and to prevent the acid-base reaction from producing too much heat, use baking soda to bring the solution to a neutral or somewhat basic pH. Then, add the lye (sodium hydroxide in my case).
7.) Once the solution has cooled to around 50C, do pulls with n-heptane like you would with any other extraction method. During pulls, keep the temperature between 40C and 50C to maximize the DMT's solubility in n-heptane.
8.) This is the part that I'm not too sure about. At this point, I can't imagine how there would be any non-alkaloid impurities dissolved in the n-heptane, so I don't see why I couldn't just let it evaporate and be left with a very clean, pure product. Since I wouldn't be allowing the n-heptane to come anywhere near the mimosa hostilis root bark powder itself, and since I'd be removing any trace lipids or other lipid-soluble impurities in the filtered acidic solution before basifying the solution, I don't see why freeze precipitation would be necessary. This is what I'm most curious about.
Thanks in advance!

2023.06.07 11:26 Proastandtoast Van Life Chronicles: Exploring Iceland for Three Weeks

This sub has been an incredible source of information and inspiration, so I gave myself an hour to write down and share some insights from the recent three-week road trip I’ve had with my partner.
General remarks:
- Our main goal was to enjoy nature, so we were okay with spending absolutely no time on the golden circle or in Reykjavik. Due to the weather, we ended up doing both anyway; but these would be the parts of the trip I would skip first. Coming from continental Europe, we had almost no jetlag and could safely start directly with our journey. With more jet lag, some more time to adapt is definitely a good idea.
- We rented a 2WD campervan from Star Car Rental and spent all but the final night on campsites. Our experience with Star Car was very good. The price was competitive and included unlimited mileage, additional driver and all necessary utensils (chairs, table, cooking stuff). We got picked up from the airport and were ready to go within 15’. When giving back the car, we got driven to our hotel without any inspection (we did have zero excess insurance).
- Mid-May to beginning of June was a very nice time to travel. The days are long (I’ve seen no darkness), almost all camping places are open, but the crowds at the highlights are small – except for the big boys in the south.
- We started our days quite early and therefore typically arrived during the afternoon at the campsites. The kitchen area, showers and laundry spaces were often free to use. Be prepared to go to campsites that have only 2 stoves and 1 shower. During prime time, expect some waiting times.
- We picked up around 100 € worth of cash – two campsites were cash-only, everything else was absolutely card-first / cash-free.
Useful ressources:
- Vedur and Safetravel: This sub is absolutely right. Learn how to read and anticipate the weather before you get there. We were there during two yellow warnings and these things are really no joke. It helps to have plenty of time to spontaneously adapt the schedule. And we’ve seen it all: blizzard in the West, hail up North, storm in the East and sun in the South.
- Google reviews & park4night: These were pretty accurate for the campsites. 4+ stars are no-brainers, 3+ depend on your needs (kitchen, shower, electricity) and less than 3 should be avoided. Also, remember to rate them yourself during/after your trip to increase the statistical significance ;)
- Google Maps/MyMaps: MyMaps was useful during our planning to fill with random highlights (waterfalls, hotpots, hikes, campsites) and to set up a rough itinerary. Google Maps is accurate on paved roads. On gravel roads, expect some significant delays. Maps calculates with 80 km/h, while you will probably never exceed 50 km/h. In the Westfjords, we guess-timated our times with 2 minutes per kilometer on the gravel roads. The Happy Campers Campsite Map as well as the Hot Pot Iceland Map were nice to have in the back-pocket to check with some time to spare whether something is close by.
- Polarsteps: This was a cute little App, which we used to keep family and friends informed. You can add pictures and some text to your highlights. This way, you don’t send the same picture into various chats and there is a location- and time-dependent context.
Cost: This is the per-person cost breakdown for our 21-day trip (20-day camper rental, 1 hotel stay, total 3’500€).
- Rental (zero excess insurance, additional driver): 1’135 €
- Flight (from continental Europe): 700 €
- Activities (Pools, Spas, Horse-riding, Kayak): 300 €
- Camping (pretty consistent 2’000 +- 500 ISK p.P.): 275 €
- Groceries (Bonus, Kronan, Netto): 255 €
- Coffee, Beers, Food in Restaurants: 260 €
- Petrol (420 € in total for roughly 3’600 km): 210 €
- Souvenirs: 180 €
- Ferries (into Westfjords and to Westman Islands): 95 €
- Hotel: 75 €
Highlights:
- Sundlaug and Spas: When camping in small towns, very often there will be a swimming pool close by. They are not expensive (around 1000 ISK pP) and a great way to relax after a long day. Also, it feels nice to take longer, hot showers without knowing people are waiting in line. We decided to go for some smaller premium spas and were very happy with all of them: Krauma was one of our first stops, the Forest Lagoon was incredible during evening hours and GeoSea was also fantastic. Re: nudity. It takes a bit to get used to, but its very refreshing to see this very open approach to nudity in the pools. No one cares, no one watches – just do your thing. It’s cool to see groups of friends at all age groups be so open about it. Certainly very different compared to continental Europe.
- As we had to skip the Eastfjords a bit due to storm, we had some time left at the end. We spent the last 3 nights on the Westman Islands. It was great to leave the car for a longer while and do everything by foot. There are plenty of things to do and the swimming pool is fantastic.
- Mulagljufur: Use Google Maps to find the exact location, as of now, there is no sign along the road. The canyon is very beautiful and we ended up hiking for almost three hours. Couldn’t get enough of the views.
- Glymur: The infamous log wasn’t placed when we were there, but the short hike to the cave and towards the canyon was absolutely worth it.
- Camping highlights: Melanes campsite at Raudasandur beach (Westfjords): incredible scenery, wild drive to get there; Thingeyri campsite (Westfjords): directly at the fjord, fantastic infrastructure (probably the best kitchen we’ve had) and IMHO a great alternative to the Tungudalur campsite in Isafjordur; 66.12 N campsite (near Husavik): insane ocean view, good infrastructure, one of the best sites along the diamond circle; Glamping&Camping (Westmann Islands): beautiful setting, good infrastructure.
Itinerary (Highlights: *, ** or ***)
Day 1: Arrival at KEF during the afternoon in pouring rain, set up campervan, first grocery stops at Bonus and Kronan, Dinner at Issi’s Fish&Chips*, Camp at Hjalli Kjos
Day 2: Glymur hike** (up to river, no log), Krauma Spa**, scenic drive into Snaefellsnes, Camp at Freezer Hostel
Day 3: Check out Snaefellsnes highlights, get to Stykkisholmur in the afternoon, Ferry Baldur to Brjanslaekur, Hellulaug hotpot*, drive to Melanes campsite*** on Raudasandur beach
Day 4: full day at Raudasandur, great hikes, another night at Melanes campsite.
Day 5: Long drive through westfjords. Highlights included the self-service fish station in Talknafjordur (amazing fisk bollur**), Dynjandi waterfall and Sandfell hike. Camping at Thingeyri*, relax in local swimming pool
Day 6: drive to Isafjordur, check out city (kind of underwhelming, but it was a national holiday; the brewery is nice), do some small hikes in the area. Camp at Tungudalur.
Day 7: very long drive out of westfjords towards Varmahlid. Hot dog stop in Holmavik and arrive at Lambeyri campsite (cash only)
Day 8: woke up with dead battery, but got jump start by campsite owner. Horseriding tour at Lytingsstadir* was very nice, drive to Akureyri, visit Forest Lagoon**. It was Saturday night when we visited, upon leaving we had police checking every driver for alcohol – so better hold off the pool-side bar ;) wanted to camp at Vaglaskogur but campsite wasn’t open. Went up until the CJA campsite in Laugar with a late-night stop at Godafoss (around 10pm, were the only people there)
Day 9: check out Myvatn area: Dimmuborgir hike, Hverir, Leirhnjukur hike**. Then continue to Dettifoss and camp at Asbyrgi. Late night hike to Asbyrgi ‘island’*.
Day 10: Hike in Asbyrgi canyon, continue to Husavik, visit GeoSea**, camp at 66.12N***
Day 11: long drive with very strong winds. We had to go back to Akureyri (optician to fix broken glasses), so went through Myvatn again with a quick stop at Grjotagja. Beautiful drive, weather was too bad for Studlagil canyon, so we continued all the way to Borgarfjordur eystri. Crazy winds during the night and we were happy that our car didn’t get blown away.
Day 12: unfortunately, no hikes in this beautiful area. Waited for storm to pass until lunchtime, visited harbor with puffins**, drive to Egilsstadir (hot dog stop), continue to Seydisfjordur (kind of underwhelming town, the drive is gorgeous though) and, due to weather forecast, continue all the way to Djupivogur campsite.
Day 13: Incredible drive from Djupivogur to Höfn, stops at Hvalnes and Jökulsarlon. Hike at Mulagljufur***, camp at Svenifell.
Day 14: early-morning hike in Skaftafell**, continue to Kirjubaersklausur for campsite. Had to skip Fjardrargljufur due to weather, visited local swimming pool.
Day 15: yellow warning again. Continued to Vik for Skool Beans Coffee*, quick stop at Reynisfjara beach (red alert was on, so we didn’t go further than the sign), continue to Skogarfoss and hike part of Fimmvorduhals*, camp in Selfoss – swimming pool was closed unfortunately.
Day 16: Weather forecast was very bad, so we spent the day in Reykjavik. Walked around town, grabbed some coffees and visiting the local Sundhöll*. Camp at Mosskogar** (cash-only)
Day 17: Golden circle: hike at Thingvellir, look at Geysir, skipped Delfoss. Camp in Selfoss again.
Day 18: quick stop at Seljalandsfoss, ferry to Westman islands. Set up camp at Glamping&Camping** for the next 3 nights. Visited Brothers Brewery*.
Day 19: Kayak tour with Kayak-and-Puffins-company***. Visited local swimming pool* (trampoline slide was very nice) and watched a local handball game.
Day 20: Hike along volcanoes and coast**, visit brewery again, go to puffin bay**
Day 21: Ferry back to mainland. Drive back towards KEF. Drop-off campervan and spent night in Konvin Hotel. Early morning shuttle to airport (we arrived about 2h early for our 7 am flight and had plenty of time).
Of course, I’m very happy to answer any questions you might have!
Hope this is helpful to some of you :)

2023.06.07 11:23 mingdeer Things that keep making my eye twitch in Till the End of the Moon

I love till the end of the moon but some things keep making my eye twitch: the hair accessories, makeup, acting, slow reaction.
Why don't they remove the hair accessories when they want to sleep. Seeing Tantai Jin and Ye Xiwu sleep without removing their hair accessories and change clothes almost made me drop it. Those things are uncomfortable and I can't imagine someone sleeping with that load. Also, is it possible to go through life threatening situations or be jostled and not have your crown or hair accessories skewed? During the fighting scenes, everything was impeccable. I know they were trying to go for immaculate looks like how they describe in novels but it only works in novels and not movies/dramas. It looks embarrassing and stupid. I would understand if the crown of the males aren't skewed but not the females. The accessories sit delicately on the head and can be disturbed with a vigorous movement. It's even noticeable when they move that they try to be careful. Chinese elevate elegancy and poise but the way they(females) move doesn't show that but shows they are aware of the delicate position of their accessories.
The second is makeup. Why is their makeup always flawless. Even the smudge they get looks fake. I blame the makeup artist. I understand if it were the Gods and immortals but Tantai Jin and Ye Xiwu weren't immortals or Gods when this was happening.
People say the acting of the actress that acted Ye Xiwu is good but it's not to me. I noticed that she reacts slowly to situations and her facial expressions are just not right sometimes. And why does she behave like a dainty girl. I swear the way she acts grates on my nerves. I wish I know the exact word to use to describe it. I know she is just playing her role like how the scriptwriter or novel (I don't know if it was originally a novel) describes her but still...
I remember when Tantai Jin knelt in the snow for four days and when he fainted he wasn't treated with urgency. Ye Xiwu didn't even call a doctor and thought just soaking him in hot water will do. He has been kneeling for four days without water and not moving and you are telling me hot water will cure everything? Don't forget he is even malnourished. She even beat him after that and he developed a fever and she still didn't call a doctor to treat him. I would understand if Ye Xiwu wasn't favoured by her family but she is and calling a doctor won't affect her.
God, who spits up so much blood, cuts their wrist and lose a lot of blood, jumps into the sea and gets swept ashore and miraculously after a few chest and back thumping wakes up. Not only that, he still has the strength to lean on someone and walk to a shelter while still dripping blood from his wrist (I don't know why there is still blood in his blood stream) and seems fine without a doctor's intervention and have the strength again to have a clear minded conversation and roast fish.
I'm done 😭😭
I can't remember the other things I found annoying but these little things made me want to go into the drama and slap some people.
But I have to say: the CGI made me satisfied. It was not the best but it was good. I don't normally watch Chinese fantasy dramas because they never get the showcasing of powers right but this drama exceeded my expectation and it's the only thing keeping my interest. I always look forward to the fighting scenes.

1st June – The Nameless Restaurant by Tao Wong

Urban Fantasy, Cozy Fantasy
There is a restaurant in Toronto. Its entrance is announced only by a simple, unadorned wooden door, varnished to a beautiful shine but without paint, hidden beside dumpsters and a fire escape. There is no sign, no indication of what lies behind the door. If you do manage to find the restaurant, the décor is dated and worn. Homey, if one were to be generous. The service is atrocious, the proprietor a grouch. The regulars are silent, brooding, and unfriendly to newcomers. There is no set menu, alternating with the whim and whimsy of the owner. The selection of wine and beer is sparse or non-existent at times, and the prices for everything outrageous. There is a restaurant in Toronto that is magically hidden, whose service is horrible, but whose food is divine. This is the story of the Nameless Restaurant.

A maiden of the stars. A monster from the shadows. A collision that rewrites their worlds.
Princess Laila Rose is a fallen star in human form. A beloved guardian to humanity. Yet in spite of these fantastical origins, she has never much believed in prophecies. That’s why when a demon of apocalyptic legend is presented to her in a block of ice, she feels fascination rather than fright.
Curiosity kindles into mutual desire once he breaks free of his captivity. Far from the rampaging beast of mass destruction everyone expects—he is monstrously handsome, deviously articulate and alluringly mysterious, a prince among his kind. Eager to discover his origins, Laila travels from her idyllic seaside realm into a land of unspeakable horrors, relying on her wits to survive her journey. She arrives aiming to establish peaceful contact with the aid of the besotted prince.
However, it becomes clear that the heartless demon king does not desire peace at all, only war and conquest. When diplomacy fails, Laila turns to the king’s suave and manipulative bastard son in the hopes that she can inspire both him and his trueborn brother to go against their father. But soon it is her heart she must keep from being torn between their centuries-old dangerous rivalry.

His prowess with a rifle draws the interest of the Locusts, a clandestine faction within Revance’s ranks. It turns out that not all aboard the fortress seek to stamp out the plague of molten flux, the mysterious liquid metal that fills the bodies of the dead and makes them walk again.
Some seek to profit.
The reanimated corpses —known as autominds— are used to control enormous contraptions of magnetically enchanted metal, forming the backbone of The Droughtland’s factories. The only thing stopping the smelters from expanding their illicit industry is Revance.
The Locusts make Ryza an offer. Either help overthrow Revance to do the smelter’s bidding or reveal his father’s legacy as the very thing Ryza now fights against.
The former is unthinkable. The latter means death.
Ryza resolves to infiltrate them and expose the mutiny, plunging him back into the murky underworld of the smelters, testing his convictions, and even leading him to the ancient origins of molten flux itself.

21st June – Hierachy of the Unseen by B. Pigeon & Fell A. Marsh

Epic Fantasy
Demons and humans are locked in endless struggle.
This is an intrinsic fact of nature. The demons believe their salvation lies in bleeding humanity of the life-force called light, while the humans are equally determined to defend it.
Within the sprawling empire of Lu-nevet, the two sides have settled into an uneasy peace, employing less violent tactics. But this peace can only hold for so long.
The state religion of Lukeira sends devout demon hunter Mitzli deep into the borderlands to bless the victims of demonic pranks. Once they arrive, however, they find unexpected signs of violence. They team up with irreligious hunter Veleiry to investigate—and the destruction the two uncover is an ominous sign of what’s to come.
Meanwhile, shiftless demon Kor falls under the scrutiny of his vampiric commander, Mant—meaning he must actually do the work of tormenting humans, rather than taking credit from his now-ex-partner Yez. Slowly, he begins to realize that the demons’ strategy is shifting, and may be heading down a path he cannot follow.
Mitzli and Kor will have to betray their respective factions if they want to put an end to the violence before it escalates. But the two of them, both outcasts among their own kind, are the only ones who know the truth. How can they protect the world if no one will listen?

2023.06.07 11:20 OXD Why is /r/ToyotaCrown going dark from June 12-14th? How will this change affect regular users? More info here.

What's going on?

A recent Reddit policy change threatens to kill many beloved third-party mobile apps, making a great many quality-of-life features not seen in the official mobile app permanently inaccessible to users.
On May 31, 2023, Reddit announced they were raising the price to make calls to their API from being free to a level that will kill every third party app on Reddit, from Apollo to Reddit is Fun to Narwhal to BaconReader.

Should things reach the 14th with no sign of Reddit choosing to fix what they've broken, many subreddits will use the community and buzz we've built between then and now as a tool for further action. NOTE: While we are currently only participating in the 2-day black out, this situation is constantly changing.

What can you do?

Complain. Message the mods of reddit.com, who are the admins of the site: message reddit: submit a support request: comment in relevant threads on reddit, such as this one, leave a negative review on their official iOS or Android app- and sign your username in support to this post.
Spread the word. Rabble-rouse on related subreddits. Meme it up, make it spicy. Bitch about it to your cat. Suggest anyone you know who moderates a subreddit join us at our sister sub at ModCoord- but please don't pester mods you don't know by simply spamming their modmail.
Boycott and spread the word...to Reddit's competition! Stay off Reddit entirely on June 12th through the 13th- instead, take to your favorite non-Reddit platform of choice and make some noise in support!
Don't be a jerk. As upsetting this may be, threats, profanity and vandalism will be worse than useless in getting people on our side. Please make every effort to be as restrained, polite, reasonable and law-abiding as possible.

2023.06.07 11:13 Shytitmouse Apartments not enforcing disabled parking spaces?

Greetings denizens of the web. I've come to you in need. I am a tenant of an apartment complex in the state of Arkansas. I was diagnosed with bone cancer in 2020 and lost a leg (below knee amputation). It is my opinion that there are too few parking spaces for the number of tenants that these apartments can house. There are disabled parking spaces provided, however they're treated like any other spot. I work nights, so I come rolling in late and all the spots are taken rather consistently. The spaces have the paint on the ground and the typical signs on posts directly in front of the spaces. The closest space to my door is coincidentally directly under the brightest street light at the complex. So people know what they're doing. And I sympathize. I've spent the last two years biting my lip and walking the distance from the next nearest open space, handicap or otherwise. I'd guess around 150+ feet. They raised my rent nearly $100 one month before my lease renewal, so I kinda got pinched there. But, that was the last of my patience. So I've called the offices to make a formal complaint regarding the issue. I've resigned myself to call every time, every day someone without tags or placards is parked in the space. Just the space I'm interested in. I'm not playing hall monitor here, going around the complex auditing every handicap space. I'm also calling at all hours of the night, cuz that's when I'm up. Of course the call goes straight to a machine. "this call may be recorded or monitored for training purposes" "a member our our staff will get back with you during our next business hours" kinda thing. I state my name, apartment number, and the reason for calling. Ending with a polite "thank you for your time". I've got 5+ years here, and hated every day of it. But housing/rent crisis in America, am I right? Any who. I started calling this month (June). I've called and left 5 messages in 7 days so far and have received no response. I know I'm asking for eviction, but at this point any hill looks good to die on. I was just looking to prepare for the backlash and further educate myself on what rights I have and what responsibilities (if any) my overlords are legally bound to. Thanks much.
