Tarp or canvas that will block bird shit but not the wind
2023.06.06 22:15 sllewgh Tarp or canvas that will block bird shit but not the wind
I have an 18'x18' parking pad. Tree branches from a tree I don't own cover the parking pad, and therefore bird shit covers my car.
Long term, I'm going to save up money and have a carport built, but short term the situation is dire and I'm looking for an impermanent fix. I purchased a sun sail (basically a big high quality tarp) and covered the parking pad. This worked great for many months until the wind hit it so hard that it knocked down a 4ft cinderblock wall the posts were attached to. Fortunately no one was parked there at the time.
If I'm going to do something more permanent and put the posts in the ground, it will be in the course of building the parking pad, not as part of a temporary fix. I feel the solution I had would have worked fine if not for the material catching the wind and turning into a giant sail. For now, I have some netting over top that keeps sticks and leaves out of my truck bed and windshield, but not poop.
Having the branches trimmed would cost a significant fraction of what the carport would cost, so I don't think it's worth it.
Is there any material I can use that will block bird shit but not catch the wind? Any other ideas to resolve this? Should I just give up on half assing it and save up the money to do it right?
Thanks in advance!

I'd like to give my thanks to

Tell me how you feel about this story. I'm content with where it ends, but others' insight always helps me figure out my flaws.

Memory Transcription Subject: Barkim, forsaken krakotl veteran.
Date: December 20, 2136 .~*~.
I came before Captain Sovlin and Captain Kalsim. I remember watching Kalsim train. I doubt he remembers me. My career made me into a captain pretty fast. Faster than most. I had repelled five Arxur raids while in control of the bridge. My crew were brave enough to trust me and my insane methods. Letting a colony world fall was unacceptable in my eyes. We were the vigilant, always ready to warp in ten minutes or less. The federation as whole didn't seem to understand how much value a few extra minutes bought for the settlers meant. Even if I had to order a retreat, tens of thousands would survive because they managed to find a place to weather the raid while the Arxur were distracted.
I was a hero.
Rumbling laughter and howls make my slow trod falter, and I look though a window into the recreational room. There's several humans at a table holding scraps of paper and barking in a jovial mood. They're not masked, and my feathers ruffle looking at them. A flicker of movement on the table catches my eye, and I finally spot the Dossur in their midst, almost completely hidden in a bunker of coins.
A Dossur beating an entire group of pack predators by himself. I never would've believed it, but I'm still not surprised it would be Alvin of all people. That little runt was the only reason I've managed to hold onto my sanity for so long. He was braver than I, and he brought me back even when I was at my worst, again and again and again. He was the first to run to our predatory saviors back at the facility. And he was the last to leave, running back into the fighting and leading a human doctor to me to stop the stray bullet from taking me into Inatala's grace.
I left him to his card game, faintly overhearing one of the humans complain about being a several years running Texas Holdem champion. Alvin's response sounded very much like him, asking if he wanted to bet the actual crown next to add to his growing wealth.
Eventually I found myself in front of a door. Inside was a small room. One wall contained a wooden desk carved with enough craftsmanship to rival old Krakotl wood carvers. The desk was cluttered with cylinders and writing apparatuses, and a primitive writing board resting on the wall above it displayed several print outs of various people. Relatives. Descendants. People that had enough empathy in them to take back the few lucky souls that still had people they could trust. The computer underneath it was not active, but if it where I'd imagine there would be encrypted communication logs trying to reconnect with those few love ones. Plans to reunite them. Promises to protect them under this faction's umbrella.
It was strange, that this group of humans wasn't desired by the rest of their kind. They take more direct, brutal action than their leaders, but they act to save lives. On the opposite wall was a locker. Inside were several firearms of Human make, and multiple emergency atmospheric suits. Many were for human use, but some were Federation standard. A pair of boots and engineering equipment rested on the floor before it, scuffed and well worn. There's a strange logo of an orange planet on the back of a jacket hanging from a hook nearby, and an even stranger article of cloth called an 'arm band.' The arm band has a large tree sewn into it, flanked by two prey animals and a river. The human I'm visiting was part of that arm band group, named after a tree of all things.
You couldn't get me to harbor a guess as to why they'd name themselves after a tree.
The far wall was rather simple. A faded green paint coat, covered in various anti-predator posters. One was of a human in a blue space suit, the visor open and revealing an endless pit of teeth. Another depicting a feral, over-proportioned human salivating over a dressed, screaming krakotl on a dinner plate. A third poster depicted some venlil collared and chained in place, stuck in some multi-colored wrapping that went up its legs halfway.
There was a mirror beside the posters, and I winced at the terrible shape I was in. I'd abused myself too much after I was freed. Even after stopping, I was still recovering. Looking past the mirror, there is a large banner of a green Terran letter. A few paper photos are plastered around it of smiling humans in strange places, and my eye always lingers over those photos despite the many times I've seen them. Earth looked lovely. I wished Kalsim had called off his mission.
Feeling like an intruder, I turned my attention to the last part of the wall. A set of black out curtains were flush with it, concealing a human roost built into the structure itself. If I was lucky, she would be there.
"Hope?"
Come on, you're better than a chicken. Carefully, I lifted the curtain. "Hope?"
There she was. The one human I wasn't bothered by on this station. I can hear the music playing now that the curtain is out of the way, and the thick visor over her eyes tells me she's watching a video or simulation of some kind. I hesitate, watching her in her own world. What fur she does have is short and remarkably dense, and she has such a unique coloration that I would swear she was one of a kind if she hadn't mentioned having family. A tan complexion, painted over by splotches and stripes of white and violets that humans can't see with their own eyes. Her face is relaxed, mouth slightly open in wonder.
The human that helped staunch my bleeding, and gently broke the news to me of
everything that had happened while I was locked up. The same one that kept me from pulling myself apart immediately after, and tried to find a way to keep me busy as my whole world went up in flames. A stern, capable person that could make decisions under pressure and wanted to save lives. While not a leader, I could see it in her. She had mettle.
She was completely exposed. Had I been the old me and not the one that woke up in a PD cell after a Sillis conference, I might've followed Kalsim's path. A talon in the right spot, and humans die fast.
"Hope?" Even raising my voice, she didn't hear me right in front of her. "Hope!"
As much as I respected her, coming this far in my state was exhausting. I, being a former fleet captain, hero, and outstanding Federation officer, decidedly acted like a child in that moment and pecked her.
"AAAAAAAH!"
"
AIIIIIIIIIEEEEE"
I let out the most undignified shriek in my life and fell over backwards, landing on my tail feathers and sending a jolt up my spine. I forgot that since Hope was human, by extension she could be loud. Really, really, unfathomably loud.
There was a blur of limbs and Hope was sitting up, visor wielded as a bludgeon. She made eye contact with me, and I realized all my remaining feathers had poofed up.
"
Blu!" She scolded, face curling in frustration. "What in the matter is-
Blu?! You're not in your room?"
Shock, this time. I felt some shame in how low my standards had fallen, and smoothed down my feathers properly. My poor heart was already recovering and I stood, puffing out my chest.
"I... I wanted to go for a walk. See what you humans could do with a dated station like this."
"You're in my room."
"That appears to be the case." I pushed a ball of dust across the floor with a talon and regarded it absently, turning my head and keeping an eye on Hope. "It needs cleaning."
With speed I was anticipating, she hurled a pillow at me. I caught the assault and rerouted it, catching her in the face. She leaned back and laughed, a noise that calmed what was left of my quaking heart as I hopped forward. She offered a hand that I accepted, and she helped pull me onto the edge of the bed.
"You offered to show me your skies." I began, feeling uncertain. "Is that possible?"
"Yeah," she said. "Here-"
Grace put a hand on my chest and pushed down. A profound sense of horror washed over me as my back hit the soft bedding.
She wouldn't- no. She can't- is it even- when have I last- Inatala please- I realized with a start that Hope leaned past me, grabbing her pad. She plugged an odd attachment into it and fastened it to the wall by her head, and flopped over beside me. My immediate terror faded into embarrassment, and my face warmed at my own stupidity as she pulled the curtain closed. It became dark, and I felt her shift slightly until the ceiling above us started to slowly glow. Her pad booted up and began to project an image up there, and I felt my initial problems fade as a blue sky opened up before us.
"Oh wow." I breathed, realizing it was a video as a plane flew overhead. I forgot myself for a moment, looking up into an alien sky as clouds blew by at a lazy pace. The jet stream slowly lost its uniformity and stretched out, facing away as other clouds replaced it. I could hear wind and alien birds chirping, and for a long moment I was there. I was really there.
Storm clouds, massive weather fronts, all began drifting by. There was a dull rumble of thunder. I started as a bird flew very close overhead.
"What was that?"
"Woodpecker. Some can get pretty big back home. Not as big as you, Blu."
"Is it really this serene? Where was this taken?"
"My backyard. There was a massive hill out back. I used to lay there for hours when I was younger. Lived at the edge of a village. The only noise back there was the odd combustion engine or farming drone. Sometimes someone firing off a gun or listening to music loudly."
"You lived in the countryside? You're a pilot!"
Hope chuckled softly. "Surprise! There's some pretty sharp people that don't live in the cities, Blu. Especially us humans. My father could repair any farm equipment you threw at him going back a hundred years. Of course, I also have an uncle that thinks the Queen of England doesn't exist, so it probably levels out." She finished, sighing and reaching up. She swiped her finger across the ceiling and suddenly the skies changed.
They were orange now. More clouds. I felt a familiar pang in my chest thinking of a Nishtal sunset, but I kept quiet as the skies gradually changed. I was surprised to see such a vibrant shade of orange, then a sharp streak of violet bleed into it. There was red as well. A lot of red.
"Why red?"
"Oh, that. Massive forest fire in Canada. That's a country above mine. The smoke changed the colors for a little while. It made for a nice view."
That it did. I got lost in the footage, and started losing track of time. Only the occasional creak of the bedding kept me from forgetting where I really was. Hope seemed content watching the skies, and it dawned on me how close I was to her.
I'm acclimating well. Maybe I'll be like Alvin in no time. When the skies slowly turned to night I was amazed at the stars that came out. Constellations I was unfamiliar with, patterns and swirls of light that could never be seen from a Federation city. I heard Hope inhale and reach out, changing the scene before it could linger anymore. "How about a time lapse. I've got some good ones."
"I don't know what that is."
"Really? Someone sets up a camera in a nice spot and records hours or days of footage. They take everything they've documented and then speed it up to a couple minutes." Hope starts a new video. I'm taken back by it, how a cloud bank flows around a mountain pass like water. It looks like a stream, where the clouds shift with each wind current change, flowing back and forth as minutes are turned into seconds.
It's stunning. Hope switches to another one, and another. I'm struck dumb with wonder, baffled at how not one other creature out of the hundreds of species thought to do anything similar over the course of the Federation. Massive mountain tops, where humans blur through trails like plasma. Prairies with storm cells moving in, lighting and rain sweeping through and giving it new light as the terrain is rapidly drenched. A large road where thousands of human vehicles streak by and leave brief paint trails in their wake.
"Thank you, Hope."
She nods, an odd gesture of acknowledgement, before changing the video back to a more slow paced skyline. After several minutes of silence, I feel a weight forming in my chest. Slowly, my wonder begins to crumble.
"How many confidants were you able to find? For the others?"
Hope shifted to look at me, turning her head and making my feathers tingle slightly at how close her face was to me. She looked back up at the sky. "Seven."
"There were forty that wanted to leave as quickly as they could. What happens to them?"
"We're letting them go. Even if they don't want anything to do with predators, they're going to find out avoiding my species is pretty hard. We're going to give them access to the network anyways, in case they want our help down the road."
"And the rest of us?"
"I'm helping the ones that want to go back to a somewhat normal life find that. There's several planets they can go to, and countless colonies. They'll be placed close to the support network in case there's trouble and they need to come back, or need financial assistance or help integrating."
Hope had mentioned something about 'shelters being a safe place' for us break outs, but had never elaborated on that.
"And what about the others that want to stay?" I noticed Hope scowl at the skies, her face forlorn.
"The ones that want to stay and help us fight are welcome to. It's not all dangerous- being part of the network isn't as risky. Helping the ones that wanted to go back to living, or finding others that got lost or fell through the cracks. It... it feels wrong asking anyone we rescued to fight and die for us. We don't want clouded judgement and people thinking they owe us that. But, there are a lot wanting to join our ranks in more aggressive operations. We're making them combat ready, teaching them how we wage wars so that they don't turn into their overseers."
I lay there for a long moment, staring at the open skies above us. "What about me?" I asked quietly.
"You're not excluded from those choices, Blu."
"You read my file. You know who I was. What I would've done if I didn't end up in that place. You'd really just let me go?"
"If you wanted to go, then yes."
The simple way in which she states it confused me. Like such a choice wouldn't cause issues or risks.
"But, we've been thinking about a better choice for you."
Oh? "The Mazics are turning into the next Paltan Combine. Their newest influx of refugees were the released Krakotl."
My chest tightens. Nishtal is no more, razed to the bedrock and dead. We had been abandoned by our neighbors, our home slaughtered well before our true nature was revealed. And in the same year, the Federation deploys over forty thousand ships to take back a world that left behind their rule. Billions of loyal citizens captured and destined for a bloody fate were worth less than billions that seceded peacefully.
And then the humans brokered a deal with the Arxur and saved their souls. This was yet another time they did the impossible.
"We were thinking they could use a strong anchor to roost against. Someone that they might remember. A leader that they can trust."
I turned my head to directly face Hope, but she was still looking at the skies.
"I... they hate you humans."
"They do."
"I can't try and lead them, and sell out anyone that still doesn't believe in the UN's cause. I can't betray them." I chirped, dread worming into my gut.
"We wouldn't expect you too. We don't want you too. Blu-" Hope turned her gaze on me, her voice sincere. "We want them to find the right path. They deserve peace and security. They don't deserve to live in fear and rot with hatred. We don't... my group does not want yours to suffer over what your government did, even if the masses supported it at the time. We think you can lead them to a better future, where this hell can have a chance to heal and fade."
She looked back up at the artificial sky above us. "You don't even have to talk to us again if you choose this. If you do your best to ensure your species can coexist with mine, that would be more than we could ever hope to see happen."
"You think that's possible? That I could get that far? It seems so far away."
Hope bared her teeth in a smile. "You're more than capable. You love your people with everything you have, Blu. They'll see that. They'll believe in you. When you stand firm for your people, they'll follow you, too. We'll help where we can- peacefully. This can happen, I know it."
I found myself looking up at Earth's sky once again, apprehensive above this new burden. There was no way I would turn this down. If the Wolverines thought it was possible, then it was possible. A future where my people were both free in body and spirit was one I would fight for until my weary body gave out.
"How do we start?"

They were also born in the midst of the Clinton administration, along with the Monica Lewinsky scandal, right in the middle of the DotCom Bubble internet boom, during the peak of the 90s prosperity and optimism that the US experienced. They were born during what many would call "the peak of human civilization". They didn't become conscious until George W. Bush was in office and 9/11 had already happened, as well as the War On Terror commencing. Their unconscious childhood years took place at the turn of the millennium, during the final days of the post-Cold War "End of History" prosperous atmosphere in the United States, along with the launches of the Gameboy Color (1998), and Windows 98 came out the year this cohort was born. The 5th generation of gaming was still the priority as the N64 & PS1 were at its peak, but it was the beginning of the transition into the 6th generation of gaming as the Sega Dreamcast came out (1999 US release, 1998 in Japan), followed by the PlayStation 2 (2000), Nintendo GameCube, Gameboy Advance (2001). Not to mention that Sega dropped out of the console race and Microsoft entered the console race and debuted with the XBOX the same year (2001). Michael Jackson released his final album Invincible (2001). Shows like Dawson's Creek, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, and Friends were the most popular shows during this timespan, right after Seinfeld had ended the year they were born and the Simpsons also started to suck then too. In the scale of current events, their unconscious childhood took place during the impeachment of President Clinton (1999), Columbine shooting (1999), optimism/hype for the new millennium, Y2K scare (1999), colloquial turn of the millennium and its respective celebrations (1999-2000), the Bush v. Gore election (2000), the actual turn of the millennium (2000-2001), the inauguration of GWB (2001), the September 11th attacks (2001), Anthrax scare (2001), Afghanistan War and beginning of the War on Terror (2001), TSA & Patriot Act (2001), No Child Left Behind Act (2001), the introduction of the Euro, DC Sniper shootings (2002), Iraq War WMD rumors (2002), and Department of Homeland Security formation (2002). This is a pretty Millennial time to be born, contrary to popular belief. Age 0 - 1998/1999 Age 1 - 1999/2000 Age 2 - 2000/2001 Age 3 - 2001/2002 Age 4 - 2002 Life stage #2: Conscious child = c. 2002-2008 https://preview.redd.it/d54bg46fse4b1.png?width=225&format=png&auto=webp&s=8820d30da8b6d6c2519a552daf3357339a3194cd They were a conscious child during the Aughts. They became conscious during the post-9/11 pessimistic atmosphere and national patriotism being at an all-time high. Their first vivid memory probably involved something related to WMDs or international affairs in the Middle East in general, or probably watching either Nickelodeon or Cartoon Network or some kids-related program, whether it was Rugrats, Spongebob, Fairly Oddparents, Arthur, Lizzie McGuire, Powerpuff Girls, etc. They were children during a not so good time in America, let alone the whole world. 9/11 had just happened, and because of that, it caused a huge lockdown on airport security, and it's been that way ever since. Events that happened were the establishment of DHS, DC Sniper attacks (2002), Afghanistan and Iraq Wars, DVD overtaking VHS and becoming the hottest attraction, the birth of social media with MySpace and Facebook (and arguably Friendster), 2004 election, Web 1.0 becoming Web 2.0 (2004), Hurricane Katrina (2005), 7/7 London bombings (2005), Pluto no longer being a planet (2006), Housing bubble burst (2006ish), introduction of Blu-Ray (2006ish), HD-DVD (2006-2008), the commercial death of VHS (2006 officially, 2008 unofficially), the iPhone launch (2007), CRTs being overtaken by HDTVs (2007), and none other than the Great Recession (2007-2009) and Obama v. McCain election (2008). They were also children during the Yu-Gi-Oh! fandom era and the dying days of Pokemon's golden era, as well as the Silver and Bronze ages of Nickelodeon, the golden and silver ages of Cartoon Network (Powerhouse era, followed by the CN City and Fall eras), and the peak of Disney Channel (golden age of DCOMs, peak of Pixar, peak of live action sitcoms). They probably could've went with their parents to see movies like the Sam Raimi Spider-Man trilogy, Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Daddy Day Care, The Cat in the Hat, Austin Powers, Are We There Yet?, Cars, etc. They were probably busy on their XBOX playing Halo, GameCube playing Super Smash Bros. Melee, or their PS2 playing GTA San Andreas. Speaking of video games, this was the prime 6th generation of video game consoles, as well as the early days of the 7th generation of video games, thanks to the releases of the Nintendo DS (2004), PSP (2005), Xbox 360 (2005), PlayStation 3 and Wii (2006). Their childhood would be dominated by the rise of reality TV, thanks to shows like Survivor, The Osbournes, The Simple Life, Pimp My Ride, MTV Cribs, Punk'd, Keeping it Up with the Kardashians, etc. On a side note, in terms of kid shows, they would've been old enough to catch reruns of The Amanda Show and Even Stevens, but young enough for iCarly and Hannah Montana. Perfect age for Drake & Josh and Zoey 101. If they were watching the NBA, they would've witnessed the rise of the 2003 draft class (Lebron, DWade, Carmelo) and the primes of Tim Duncan and Kobe Bryant. If they were watching pro-wrestling, would've caught the entire Ruthless Aggression era, and if they watched the NFL, witnessed the Patriots dynasty at work. They would've been some of the last to remember a world before social media and broadband internet. This childhood experience screams Millennial, but specifically second-wave Millennial, a.k.a. "Echo Buster" or "Zillennial". Age 4 - 2002/2003 Age 5 - 2003/2004 Age 6 - 2004/2005 Age 7 - 2005/2006 Age 8 - 2006/2007 Age 9 - 2007/2008 Age 10 - 2008 Life stage #3: Adolescent = c. 2008-2016 https://preview.redd.it/1kuhz94gse4b1.png?width=970&format=png&auto=webp&s=b6986205bcf7d9317cfd4145c8e3def4a0de1bca Their adolescence began during the return of pop music being at the forefront of the mainstream music, thanks to the "electropop" club boom, with the likes of Katy Perry and Lady Gaga leading it. They would've caught the dying days of rock's relevance in the mainstream and emo being relevant. Later on in their adolescence, other musical genres like dubstep, EDM, indie pop, Chicago drill, trap/mumble rap, etc. would dominate. The internet had fully taken over at this point, and technology was at a massive transition at this time. Dial-up internet became fully replaced by broadband, fast-speed internet. Web 2.0 became the norm, social media was officially the norm now with MySpace's dominance, Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Vine, Instagram, and Snapchat, most households acquired flat screen HDTVs and gradually got rid of all their CRTs, digital tech would fully replace analog tech, VHS would completely die, Blu-ray peaked during this time and DVDs were still very relevant. This would be the last era of dominance for cable television before streaming would take over. Blockbuster would go out of business thanks to the popularity of Netflix. On the current event scale, their adolescence began with the 2008 financial collapse (killing off the era of ultra-consumerism and McMansions), a black president taking office, 2007-08 Writers Guild of America strike, H1N1 crisis, death of Michael Jackson (2009), Affordable Care Act (2010), death of Osama Bin Laden, Occupy Wall Street, and end of Iraq War (2011), death of fellow 1995 cohort Trayvon Martin (2012) which launched the BLM movement (2013), KONY 2012, Aurora shootings, Hurricane Sandy, and the Sandy Hook shootings (2012), Mayan predictions of the 2012 apocalypse, the Crimean annexation (2013-2014), ISIS (2014), Ferguson riots (2014-2015), legalization of gay marriage in all 50 states (2015), Trump announcing his run for office (2015), Paris attacks (2015), Brexit (2016), and the Trump v. Clinton election (2016). They grew up during the era of John Cena, Kanye West, Rihanna, Drake, Justin Bieber, Soulja Boy, Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez, Jonas Brothers, Randy Orton, Batista, LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, Big Time Rush, One Direction, Lorde, etc. Their "coming of age" films probably would've been Easy A, Prom, 21 & 22 Jump Street, The Duff, and the Edge of Seventeen, and especially Diary of a Wimpy Kid would be the best representation of their middle school years in the late 00s-early 10s, as well as the "coming of age" shows like Degrassi, The Secret Life of the American Teenager, Glee, 16 & Pregnant, Shameless, Gossip Girl, Pretty Little Liars, iCarly, Victorious, etc. They would've still been old enough to experience COD during its peak from 2009-2013, and would be old enough to be in those Modern Warfare 2 lobbies on Xbox 360 (if you know, you know), as well as being relatively young enough to play some Minecraft in its early stages. They were the prime age of teenagers playing GTA V. Speaking of gaming, they would've been adolescents during the late 7th and early 8th generations of gaming, as gaming started to decline in quality as time went on. This adolescent experience is still pretty Millennial, to be honest. Age 10 - 2008/2009 Age 11 - 2009/2010 Age 12 - 2010/2011 Age 13 - 2011/2012 Age 14 - 2012/2013 Age 15 - 2013/2014 Age 16 - 2014/2015 Age 17 - 2015/2016 Age 18 - 2016 Life stage #4: Young adulthood = c. 2016-present https://preview.redd.it/rc4dnqvgse4b1.png?width=1980&format=png&auto=webp&s=fc41354449eda8c89f668830680d2abdb28564c7 Their young adulthood was very radical, socially speaking. Their young adulthood would witness many social movements like a huge uptick in third wave feminism and women right's movements, #MeToo, a radicalization in political beliefs as things get wackier (think of Matt Walsh's "What is a Woman" for an example, pronouns, men participating in female sports, and woke culture in general), and of course cancel culture being a thing. This was the peak of polarization and everyday people became more divided then ever. Their young adulthood conveniently commenced around the time of the 2016 presidential election, being the youngest members to vote in that election. The Trump administration in itself was very interesting to witness as a young adult. Mass shootings increased with Isla Vista, Orlando nightclub, Las Vegas, and Parkland to name a few. Climate change started to become talked about as a problem or major issue by many political figures and talking heads. Trump would become impeached twice, which was never seen before in a presidency. Their young adulthoods would get even crazier as the Covid pandemic came about, with the threat of WW3, Kobe Bryant dying, BLM at its peak with the death of George Floyd, the infamous 2020 election, vaccine rollout, polarization increasing, Russia-Ukraine wars, death of Queen Elizabeth and coronation of King Charles, rise of AI with the launch of ChatGPT, popularity of NFTs and the rise of the "Metaverse", an incoming recession thanks to the Silicon Valley Bank going bankrupt and the rise of Central Bank Digital Currency with the FedNow releasing in July 2023, etc. And their young adulthood is still ongoing, being that they are currently 24-25 years old. Since they are still young adults, they are in their "core prominence" and their main influence/impact in the realm of pop culture. 2023.06.06 04:57 MaIorbas Defending the Draft 2023: Los Angeles Chargers
Preface: There’s really no way to look back at the Chargers’ 2022 season without starting at the end. The team blew a 27-0 lead to the Jaguars in the wild card round in what can only be described as the peak of decades of cruelty by the football gods directed at the Chargers. In a year that began with Super Bowl aspirations thanks to an extremely talented on-paper roster, and included a regular season of injury after injury after injury (Justin Herbert, Rashawn Slater, Keenan Allen, Mike Williams, etc.), the finale could not have been more crushing. Criticism and ridicule has rained down on head coach Brandon Staley and offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi,
and the latter was promptly fired at the end of the season to the rejoicing of fans everywhere. But now we begin, again. The Super Bowl hopes are very much alive. The roster saw very few changes in free agency as the front office and coaching staff clearly believe the failure of the 2022 season was generally not an issue with the assembled players. But there is a much higher sense of urgency this year, and it’s not an exaggeration to say the team is going “all in” on the final cheap year of Justin Herbert’s rookie deal. Contracts have been structured in a way that will force significant cuts after the 2023 season just to get the team to salary cap compliance. This year may be do-or-die for both Tom Telesco and Brandon Staley.
Free Agency Recap
Losses:
G Matt Feiler, LB Drue Tranquill, EDGE Kyle Van Noy, QB Chase Daniel, CB Bryce Callahan, WR Deandre Carter, S Nasir Adderley, LB Troy Reeder, DL Breiden Fehoko, WR Michael Bandy, OT Storm Norton Five starters on this list: Feiler, Tranquill, Callahan, Carter, and Adderley. Letting Drue Tranquill leave is by far the most controversial decision here, especially since he ended up going to the Chiefs. He played very well last year, but seems like the idea here is that he was a factor in the defense’s struggle against the run. Feiler was a disaster last season after a great 2021, and Jamaree Salyer should be an immediate upgrade. Callahan is still a free agent and a reunion is not out of the question. Van Noy was great as a fill-in when Bosa was injured, but the team wants to get younger at the position. Carter was a quiet signing who outperformed his contract and provided much needed depth but again, too old. Adderley was benched in the season finale and then retired. The rest were backups and rotational players.
Additions: LB Eric Kendricks, DL Nick Williams That’s it, that’s the list. Eric Kendricks steps in as the starter next to Kenneth Murray who he can hopefully help mentor into being a good linebacker. And theoretically, he will be an upgrade in run defense over Drue Tranquill. Williams was signed after the draft as insurance for the injured Austin Johnson and Otito Ogbonnia. He may not make the team. The Chargers used most of the rest of their cap space re-signing free agents like Trey Pipkins, Morgan Fox, and Donald Parham. They still have about $12.5M to work with, pending the upcoming Justin Herbert mega-deal.
Draft Needs
WR: The trio of Keenan Allen, Mike Williams, and Josh Palmer is one of the best in the league. However, with their contracts, there’s really no chance Allen and Williams will be Chargers in 2024. This group also lacks a speed element.
EDGE: Similar to WR, the starting duo of Bosa and Mack is elite but they are expensive and getting older. The depth behind them is just Chris Rumph.
TE: Gerald Everett is solid but on the last year of his deal. Donald Parham has potential but can’t stay healthy. Tre’ McKitty is a blocking TE who isn’t a very good blocker.
CB: JC Jackson is an enormous question mark, both from a health and performance standpoint. Michael Davis is a free agent after 2023. Ja’Sir Taylor is penciled in as the starting slot corner after very limited playing time last year.
OL: This is the strongest starting five the Chargers have had in a decade but the depth behind them both inside and out is weak.
LB: Eric Kendricks and Kenneth Murray will start, but Murray is auditioning to be on the team next year and Kendricks is old. The depth behind them is just Nick Niemann and Amen Ogbongbemiga.
S: JT Woods was a 2022 3rd round pick but barely played in 2022. Alohi Gilman stepped up when needed, but relying on him to start is risky.
RB: Austin Ekeler requested a trade, and even though it looked very unlikely to happen, the team needs to think about life after him in 2024. Neither Josh Kelley or Isaiah Spiller have shown they can handle a full workload.
KPR: With Deandre Carter’s departure, the team has no one with real return experience.
The Draft
1.21: Quentin Johnston - WR, TCU In hindsight, this pick should have been more obvious. The Chargers have been very strict about their size thresholds for wide receivers over the years, and despite countless debates about Johnston vs Zay Flowers vs Jordan Addison, the big guy from TCU won out. This was an immediately controversial pick among fans as many believed the speedy Flowers or the crafty Addison would be more suited to filling the biggest need in this position group: speed and separation. But while Johnston may not be your traditional deep threat, his game speed and GPS tracking data suggest a more dynamic skillset than he showed at the combine. And one area where he does beat those two guys that was probably overlooked as a need: run after catch ability. Johnston was elite at that in college, and that looks to be his primary role for the Chargers. New OC Kellen Moore will use him like he did Ceedee Lamb in Dallas. And since he will start the year at number three on the depth chart at best, he won’t be under pressure to carry the offense as a rookie while he learns from the veterans in front of him.
2.54: Tuli Tuipulotu - EDGE, USC After WR, the Chargers’ clear next biggest need was at EDGE and Tuli was the consensus best available. The team has also shown a penchant for drafting local kids from USC and UCLA over the last few years. He was extremely productive in his final season in college where he put up 13.5 sacks playing both on the edge and the interior. In the draft process, many people questioned if he would bulk up to be a full time DT or slim down to play the EDGE. It ended up being the latter as he weighed 266lbs at the combine. Tuli will provide valuable depth behind Bosa and Mack as a rookie, while also having the opportunity to play inside on passing downs like he did in college.
3.85: Daiyan Henley - LB, Washington State The Chargers lost two linebackers to free agency: Drue Tranquill and Troy Reeder. Tranquill was the team’s best coverage linebacker, and Reeder was key depth while also being a core special teams player. Enter Daiyan Henley, who could fill both of those roles by himself. With Kenneth Murray likely off the team in 2024, Henley has the opportunity to earn a starting job over the course of the season. He is a recent convert to the linebacker position and there is still much room for growth. At the very least, he will be an immediate special teams contributor. Staley and Telesco both raved about his prowess in that phase of the game after picking him.
*
4.125: Derius Davis - WR, TCU * Another TCU receiver! This pick was definitely a surprise, as many people projected him to be a late day 3 pick. But the Chargers coaching staff said after the draft that they believed he was the best return man available, and that they wanted to draft a starter in the 4th round. Davis was indeed one of the best returners in the country at TCU, and also can add some juice on offense even if he ends up limited to a gadget role. Either way, here’s some killer speed for the Chargers offense.
5.156: Jordan McFadden - OL, Clemson In the last few drafts, the Chargers have shown a lot of love for late round tackle-to-guard converts. Jamaree Salyer was the steal of the 2022 draft in the sixth round. McFadden played both tackle and guard in college on both sides of the line, and some scouts believe he may even be able to play some center. For the Chargers he will compete with Brenden Jaimes for the swing guard role, and maybe even push Foster Sarrell to be the swing tackle. Key depth for a position group that needed it.
6.200: Scott Matlock - DL, Boise State Matlock is a solid run defender with some pass rush upside who will get to learn behind a strong trio of veteran starters. And with Austin Johnson and Otito Ogbonnia both rehabbing major knee injuries, he may end up seeing some decent playing time this season. I’m very intrigued by his upside, and Staley has a good track record of getting good play from late round DTs.
7.239: Max Duggan - QB, TCU The Los Angeles Horned Frogs are ready to take the NFL by storm in 2023 (hopefully to face the Philadelphia Bulldogs in a championship rematch). The Chargers historically have carried three QBs on the active roster, and with only two signed going into the draft, it seemed like a strong possibility they would pick one. So here’s Max Duggan, who despite leading TCU to the Natty was generally not loved by scouts. He has a ton of athletic ability but the finer points of playing QB need to be worked on. There is absolutely potential to be a long term backup to Justin Herbert though, if he can beat out Easton Stick.
Notable UDFAs Jerrod Clark - DL, Coastal Carolina: Most people expected Clark to be drafted, and the Chargers gave him a lot of money for a UDFA. I would not be surprised at all to see him make the roster as an additional run defender.
Cam Jones - CB, Ohio State: Another guy who could have been drafted, there are depth spots at corner up for grabs and Jones is an intriguing option.
Tiawan Mullen - CB, Indiana: Mullen used to have a pretty high draft stock but fell hard in the process. The Chargers are thin at slot corner and he could earn a role.
Mikel Jones - LB, Syracuse: There’s a wide open competition for ILB5 that will most likely be decided by special teams.

2023.06.05 22:33 stablegeniusdiffuser TensorRT may be 2x faster - but it has a LOT of disadvantages (including speed of batch generation)
There's a lot of hype about TensorRT going around. Not unjustified - I played with it today and saw it generate single images at 2x peak speed of vanilla xformers. But in its current raw state I don't think it's worth the trouble, at least not for me and my 4090. Here's why:
- Every model checkpoint needs to be recompiled (first to ONNX and then to TensorRT). Took 15 minutes for me on my fast desktop (the exe is single threaded only) and resulted in a 1.8 GB file.
- That compiled file only works for a limited number of image sizes and batch sizes. After some experimentation I got one working for a specific combo: width 512, height 512-768, batch size 1-3. If you want other sizes you need to compile separate files. If you want larger batches you need to make images smaller. The compiled files also only work for that GPU model.
- It doesn't work with ControlNet, at least not currently. (Does anyone know if it could work in the future?)
- LORAs need to be baked into the model at compile time.
- The previous points mean you'll want to keep several versions of the same model around, so storage requirements are much higher.
- Installation wasn't trivial. I needed to install Visual Studio Build Tools, then CUDA 11.8, the TensorRT extension and finally switch to the dev branch of auto111. But it's early and this will all probably become easier.
- Speed - generation of single images is really fast, peaking at twice the it/s of xformers. But with the GPU memory loading and image saving overhead it was more like 50% faster on my 4090. Also the limit on batch size means that xformers catch up for larger batches. Quick test:
Batch generation on a 4090 (seconds, batches x images)
| 15 x 1 | 5 x 3 | 1 x 15 |
vanilla xformers | 41 | 28 | 22 |
TensorRT | 29 | 23 | - |
The significant tradeoffs in image generation flexibility and limited net speed gains have killed off the hype as far as I'm concerned. I'll still be keeping my eye on TensorRT for the amazing tech, but unless it gets significant improvements I won't be using it. YMMV, maybe especially if you have a mid to low-range GPU.

2023.06.05 20:18 Tigra21 Hunter or Huntress Chapter 168: U-Haul
Tom was still rather worried he had made a big mistake as he watched Jacky fly off towards the grey horizon, chainsaw dangling from her chest. He felt a little odd actually. He had come running out to say goodbye and to give Jacky her pair of ear defenders and some safety glasses that sorta fit, at least a little bit. He had also reminded them to pack some tarps. Just in case it rained since it might help keep the wood mostly dry. Honestly, he felt like a worried mother or housewife.
The image hadn’t really been helped when Ray had also come running up carrying some bundles of food someone had apparently forgotten. Maybe he should go do a load of laundry next and complete the image.
“Well… that’s them gone,” Tom shrugged as he lost sight of Jacky against the grey skies.
“Yup…” Ray answered, also staring up at the sky, watching them.
“You got anything you have to do or?”
“Oh eh, not that much… I really should wash the floors in the armory though, a lot of muddy feet,” Ray joked a little unsurely.
“Don’t bother, it’ll be just as dirty tomorrow anyway, and ten times so if we get rain.”
“Raulf thinks so… About the rain that is. So you’re probably right,” Ray agreed, turning to look at him instead. “Do you need help with anything?”
“We just have some stuff to do in the smithy. I don’t think so… Actually,” he replied, turning to her as well, tilting his head a little. “I heard Fengi mention that you were looking at getting dresses made. Is that right?”
“Oh, yes,” Ray responded with a quick nod. “You know. It would be nice to have, even if it wouldn’t be so good to wear every day. It is going to be hard with the silks though.”
“Everyone needs some finery,” Tom replied with a wink. Of course she should have some nice clothes, maybe she would even start wearing what they had gotten for her in the capital then. She looked quite nice, all things considered, when she tried. “You went for silk? I guess that’s a bit expensive,” he carried on, having no clue what silk they might be talking about. The only silk that he remembered them having was the changeling silk of his cloak… maybe he should revisit the idea of getting that turned into a proper uniform. He would need a bit more of the stuff though.
“Well that too, but I’ve never sewn silk before. It’s always so expensive. And it’s hard to make look just right.”
“I know Essy is pretty good at sewing. I’m sure Wiperna is too.”
“Oh of course,” Ray giggled, though still looking a little uncertain. “But not to be mean or anything, but a dress is quite different from some armor or a simple shirt.”
“Well, I certainly wouldn’t know. Only sewing I’ve done was to fix things… It usually didn’t end well,” Tom joked, hoping Ray wouldn’t be quite so skittish. They hadn’t talked that much, but everyone knew she was sweet as pie.
“I could teach you if you want? I was helping Jacky a little before all this stuff with the inquisitor happened.”
“Jacky was taking sewing classes?” Tom questioned, raising an eyebrow. That was honestly quite the surprise.
“It’s been a while. She’s been busy and all,” Ray replied a little meekly before changing the subject. “How have the two of you been doing? You have had a very hard time.”
“Right… Oh yeah, it’s been… well it sucked a lot. Jacky blames the inquisitor rather than me, even if I wasn’t that nice all the time, so I guess that is a plus.”
“It’s okay, everyone has bad days. You especially so,” Ray said in a very soothing voice, going to put a hand on his shoulder with the most tender and caring look on her face Tom could imagine. “Just try not to, okay?”
“You know Ray, this is why everyone here likes you so much,” Tom chuckled softly, giving her a pat on the shoulder in return. “You’re a good egg as we would say back home.”
“But humans don’t lay eggs,” Ray replied, turning her head to the side a little, looking adorably confused.
“No, but we still know what eggs are… Anyhow, Jacky thought you would want to buy some jewelry with the money? I guess that falls under clothes to some extent.”
“Oh… Yeah, I guess so. It is going to be so strange having to buy something not from my brother's shop.” She laughed hollowly. Tom hadn’t thought about that part. He didn’t even know if the shop was still around.
“We could also try making some? I know Shiva will be quite busy, but we certainly have plenty of materials to work with. Silver and gold too. I have a feeling that maybe she will want to do something other than entertaining us lot as winter goes by.”
“Do you think she would do that? It is a lot of work,” Ray questioned meekly, clearly worried time would be spent on her that shouldn’t. Tom couldn’t really blame her. They would probably be busy all winter, but surely Shiva could whip up some earrings or something.
“Well, she sure loves polishing everything. Do you know her magic?”
“Yeah, I more or less worked it out… My brother had the same talent. Let him make things without solder. He made these earrings out of very thin gold wire all fused together into little designs. They were beautiful,” Ray replied, turning sadder and sadder as she explained.
“Oh I believe it. Maybe Shiva can replicate one?” Tom tried cautiously, not sure if he should change the subject or if this was a good thing to talk about. ‘God dammit Tom, why are you such a numpty with all this stuff?’
“Perhaps?... It was very fine work. They easily broke too. He just called that a business opportunity since not many places could fix them. I often wore some of them when standing outside, at least during the day, you know? Advertising. He never even got mad every time I broke one,” Ray replied somberly, her expression going blank. “Times change, I guess.”
“They sure do. I had never worn jewelry before coming here. And then what do the girls do? They take every chance they get to dress me up with whatever they can find. Even cut my hair to leave a damn heart and a lightning bolt. Wore a cap for months after that. It’s still not quite gone,” Tom joked. It seemed to help as she looked at him with big eyes like she had just realized something embarrassing.
“I remember those… I thought they were religious or something like that.”
Tom suppressed a snicker at that, not wanting to laugh at her. Shortly thereafter Ray too let out a little giggle, confirming that she found it funny too.
‘Oh thank god for that.’
“And the time they tried to do my hair into horns, oh that was soo stupid.”
“They really tried that?” Ray questioned, suppressing another snicker.
“Yup, I think Saph just panicked. Dakota basically just told her ‘Make him presentable!’ and then left. She didn’t have a clue what to do,” Tom carried on, breaking out laughing properly at the stupid memory. That had been so damn dumb, but it was a good story at least. Ray joined in too, though she was more snickering and giggling at his misfortune than outright laughing.
“I’m sorry, but that is funny,” Ray apologized as she kept snickering at him.
“Oh don’t worry, it was damn funny. Afterwards at least,” Tom got out after catching his breath real quick. “Or the time when Kiran attacked my foot ‘cause of how bad it smelled. That really hurt. Bastard has sharp fangs.”
“He is a spirited one,” Ray remarked, the two of them continuing to snicker like idiots.
Then there was a bit of a cough from behind them. Tom turned to see Junior and Radexi standing there, Junior at attention for some reason.
“At ease gentlemen,” Tom joked, watching the young man switch to a more relaxed stance, almost mirroring Radexi who just shook his head the tiniest amount. “What is it?”
“Shiva and Edita want you in the forge, and Jarix would like a word as well.”
“Right. I guess the fun is over then. Run along you two, I’ll be right up.”
“Yes sir.”
Tom let out a sigh as he watched them run off ‘I guess he’s not quite over playing soldier… I guess it still beats him taking after his father. Oh well, to work.’

Saph’s day had been rather boring thus far. It had been such a long walk, and it was more or less around late afternoon by the time they had made it to just the treeline. It had taken some walking back and forth from there before Essy had come descending out of the skies towards them to lead them to the camp.
It had turned out to be another half-hour walk through the forest to get there, which had left everyone save Essy a little travel sore. One might laugh at the idea of sitting down for a whole day being tiring, but Saph had actually gotten off to jog alongside just to have something to do for a bit. That and she was sore and stiff from all the hours sitting on Yldril’s back.
At least the forest was beautiful though, much better than the rolling hills. They really did get boring after a while. Here, though, it was all full of color. Especially on the outskirts of the forest. The leaves were already a dark yellow and falling, coating the ground in a colorful blanket. A few piles could be seen here and there where the wind had swept them up. Saph poked one to check for any surprises with a long stick before taking a run up and just jumping in backward, letting her wings catch the leaves to give a soft bouncy landing.
Fengi had kindly asked the dragon to walk by the pile of leaves, causing Saph to vacate to the shout of “Clear below!” followed by Fengi letting herself fall off the dragon’s back and down into the pile of leaves, using much the same trick as Saph had, though the cushion of leaves caught under her wing and sent her bouncing off. Essy stuck her head over the side to better watch as Fengi sailed gracelessly through the air and landed with a thunk and an “Aooow…” on some rather less well-padded ground.
The two silvered huntresses both chuckled a bit as Fengi held up a hand showing the OK symbol. “Nailed it.”
“Well if there had been a nail there then absolutely. You didn’t hurt anything, right?” Saph snickered, walking up to look down at the younger woman.
“Nope, I’m fine,” Fengi replied, standing up and dusting herself off, still looking like that had hurt at least a bit.
“Well at least the kids aren’t around to learn about that maneuver,” Essy added with a shake of her head. “I could see someone breaking a wing doing that.”
“You can break a wing doing the dishes,” Fengi retorted, going to jog after the dragon who hadn’t stopped or even slowed down. “Yldril, I’m climbing up your tail, just so you know.”
“Wonderful. At least you don’t want me to pick you up when you fall off,” The dragon retorted sarcastically, not seeming to care overly much. It wasn’t like she could stop them anyway. Fengi hopped up onto her tail and started climbing. Saph was half expecting the tip to fall off again, but it did seem to have survived the reattachment pretty well. Even if it was just the tip that had come off, it was certainly more than could be said for Balethon.
Saph followed Fengi’s lead, taking a running start and using a few powerful flaps of her wings to send her up onto the dragon's back. “All aboard.”
“Chuu chuu,” Essy let out playfully, pumping her fist in the air twice, leading to both Fengi and Saph tilting their heads looking at her. “Oh, it’s a thing Tom said… Not sure what it means, probably Danish.”
“Ahr yeah, that makes sense,” Fengi and Saph both agreed as they made themselves comfortable once more.
Saph went to lay down alongside the spines on the dragon's back, looking down at the ground moving slowly by below them. The dragon’s steps had slowed a bit as the hours had gone by, and she just watched the ground glide past. She thought back fondly to old times long ago. Playing in the rustling leaves as a kid had always been good fun. They used to take the kids of the keep to the forest just to see how different it was on a normal year. It was good to have a trip to see something other than just the rolling hills around the keep after all. For the last while though the kids had more or less just been cooped up inside the keep. She didn’t see that changing this year either.
‘Maybe next year. With some money, surely we could take a trip to the capital or something. Been a few since last we did that after all I think.’
They didn’t so much see the camp as hear it. Specifically, the roar of Tom’s chainsaw cutting through the woods. At first it was faint in the distance, almost like a shriek of a wounded animal, but as one came closer the true anger of that strange tool could be heard in full song. Accompanied by a familiar if rather manic-sounding laughter…
“Wait… Did they give it to Jacky?” Saph broke out, sitting up and trying to look ahead.
“Well that can’t possibly go wrong,” Fengi said sarcastically, shaking her head a bit, standing up, and walking up to Yldril’s shoulders to get a better view.
“It gets worse I’m afraid,” Essy added, having taken a comfy seat on Yldril’s back as well.
Fengi and Saph both didn’t say anything, instead just turning to look at the oldest huntress.
“Tom isn’t here either… and he gave it to her for the day,” Essy carried on reluctantly, apprehension clear on her face.
“Dakota did come, right? You know, just in case something needs to be put back on,” Saph tried half-joking, half-serious. A healer sounded like something they could definitely use if they ended up in that situation.
“I am not sure Dakota could manage that if I’m being honest. I wouldn’t like to think what that thing could do to flesh and bone,” Fengi added, also not seeming overly thrilled with the news.
“Is anyone going to tell me what that noise is?” Yldril protested, shaking her head a little as Jacky let loose once more, the screaming saw chewing its way through a log somewhere in the forest. It was hard to even work out where it was coming from with the echo bouncing off the trees all around them.
“Just think of it as a magical item that cuts wood and to do it, it burns stuff rather than magic. And is incredibly loud,” Saph responded as she tried to tell what parts of the noise were the saw and what might be Jacky screaming with glee.
“Am I the only one who would be quite scared to hear this? Say in the dark of night all alone out here?” Fengi questioned, sounding like maybe there was a little fear in there already as she looked around, the sound overwhelming them from all directions.
“Please tell me I do not have to listen to that all day?” the dragon grumbled, seeming a lot less impressed by the noise.
“If it helps, we all do. If Jacky’s got the saw, then she ain’t putting it down till it doesn’t wanna go no more. Or when we are done, I hope,” Saph sighed, the sheer disappointment radiating off the dragon feeling almost thick in the air as she walked along.
“Who knows, maybe they will be done soon?” Fengi tried in a cheerful tone. “I mean cutting trees down with that thing and branching them can’t take that long, and they must have been going for a while by now.”
Rounding a large path of bushes, the source of the noise came into view. Jacky stood with her back to them complete with her red-furred ear-defenders as woodchips flew all around, before the tree she had been working on creaked and cracked, slowly starting to topple over. “TIIIMBEEEER!”
There was a brief panic as the tree fell the wrong way, and several keep dwellers ran for it before the tree slammed into the ground. Jacky stood there looking quite pleased with herself.
“GOT IT!” she shouted out as grumbling faces started returning to the site, some having fled quite far away. As order returned some of them noticed the massive dragon staring at them. “Sorry about the bad guess. I really thought it was going that way.”
‘Gods give me strength,’ Saph sighed, clutching her temples a bit.
“Now now Saph, I’m sure she tried to make it go the other way. The saw does look like a handful if you ask me,” Essy let out, clearly trying to mediate things before anyone got shouted at. “Looks like they have come a long way already too.”
“Indeed,” Yldril replied, looking around and not sounding overly thrilled as she started walking up to the latest trunk to hit the ground. Looking around, the victims were quite spread out, and Essy was right too, there were quite a lot of them.
Jacky apparently hadn’t noticed them until Yldril was but a few meters behind her. She turned a bit to the right, probably sensing something was behind her, and let out a yelp of surprise as she noticed the massive black dragon standing just behind her. In true Jacky fashion, her finger was seemingly still on the trigger as the chainsaw roared to life, revving wildly before she managed to get her finger off the trigger, stumbling back a step or two. Some people averted their gaze once more, fearing Dakota’s magics were about to be needed, though others simply shook their heads or giggled a bit.
Yldril just stood there staring at the huntress unflinchingly. “Would you please shut that thing up?”
“Oh… right. Fuck man, you can’t just sneak up on me like that,” the chainsaw-wielding huntress countered, shutting off the chainsaw with a flick of a switch.
“I was not. You are simply oblivious. How many trees are there?”
“Oh uuuhm…” Jacky paused, looking back at her path of destruction. "Well… You know, I think I stopped counting.”
“There are twelve in total,” Dakota responded, walking up to the dragon. “And I must say, things have been going far swifter than we imagined. So far we are talking two logs per tree, we will cut them in half again when back at the keep. So two trees cut into four logs a trip was our idea. You will have to put together your cargo though. Do you think you can handle that?”
“Just fine… what even is that, a couple tons? Might as well take eight just to get it done with. That would mean I only need to do three trips, right?”
“That would be correct, yes. It is an awful lot of wood though,” Dakota replied, not seeming quite convinced that was a good idea, looking to Fengi for confirmation.
The young huntress just shrugged, clearly not knowing either. “If she thinks 8 logs is fine, why not? Not like we know what she can pull.”
“I have hauled far worse. But first I want to lay down somewhere with a bit of peace and quiet,” the dragon rumbled unenthusiastically, looking to Jacky, who was already making her way to the tree she had downed, fiddling with the saw.
“You can rest for a little. Afterward, we would have you stack the lumber up over there. We’re laying down two logs to put it on so it doesn’t get wet. In the meantime, Saph, we have a little foraging to do. I hope you brought your knife.”
“Always,” Saph replied, sliding down Yldrils's side and landing in a crouch, steadying herself with an arm before standing up again. “What are we looking for?”
“Heaven oak bark and anything else of use. A tasty snack wouldn’t go amiss either. By the looks of it, we might be able to finish up here today. Actually, remember to grab a hatchet for the bark while you are at it.”
“I saw some berry bushes when looking for you three. Worth a look I think,” Essy added enthusiastically as she too slid down Yldril, as the dragon started walking off to go have a nap somewhere a little quieter.
“Could I come too? Once I’ve seen where Yldril went to sleep at?” Fengi questioned hopefully, looking to Dakota. “I’ll be back so we can have her ready stuff for tomorrow.”
“I don’t see why not, as long as we get the prep done properly. Apparently it is going to rain tomorrow.”
“Yeah we heard,” Fengi sulked, glancing to Saph.
“Not much we can do about it. We better get going then before she wanders too far off. Do try to keep Jacky from killing anyone,” Saph chuckled, feeling a little glad she didn’t have to be too close to the saw either. It made her ears ring, and since Jacky had it there was not much chance of her getting a go at it anyway, and where was the fun in that?
“No faith at all,” Jacky laughed loudly with a big smile on her face as she yanked the cord and the device sprang to life once more. There was no denying just how quick work it made of those branches though. Each was gone in a matter of seconds as she walked up the side of the trunk.
“Well, good luck. See you later!”

As Tom came up the stairs to the greeting hall, the sight that greeted him was a young and slender blue dragon laying on his belly, head turned to face the horizon while completely overrun by kids. Said gaggle of kids seemed to include nearly everyone, save Lothal. Last Tom had seen him he had been shadowing Rachuck, who was supposed to be with Paulin at the moment so he guessed the kid was getting his first proper lessons on inquisition wrangling. Someone had to keep an eye on her.
The investigator hadn’t actually been causing much trouble as of late. Whether that came down to the orders she had been given or to the fact that Tom had a suspicion that she and Rachuck actually saw eye to eye on many things was hard to say. They were certainly both rather paranoid and beset by an impeccable work ethic.
For now though, Tom guessed he had kids to worry about, as well as whatever Jarix wanted to do. As he made his way over he saw Zarko holding the basket with Jinora, looking less than thrilled about the whole situation. It was rather funny to see the strict and uptight military woman being forced to babysit. And in all due honesty, she should probably be sawing planks or something instead. But they wouldn’t have any more wood till sometime late tomorrow, so here she was. He guessed that she hadn’t gone logging because if it came to it Jarix needed his crew for a fight.
“Ahr Tom, listen bro, I need to ask a favor,” Jarix called out, seeming quite delighted once he spotted Tom and Ray.
“Name it big guy,” Tom called back, walking up and watching as the kids all turned to look, a few hopping down to come his way with Kiran leading the charge.
“I wanted to ask you. Remember back before Joelina came here, well mostly even longer back than that. You used to run around in the morning and lift things?”
“Yup,” Tom replied, bending down to pick up Kiran as he came running with arms raised. “Up we come.”
“Yeah that stuff. Does it actually work?” the dragon questioned as the rest of the kids running up went right by Tom and instead ran up to Ray, who had already bent down arms open to welcome them in.
“What do you mean?” Tom asked with a chuckle, watching Ray with a big smile.
“He’s just trying to get out of having to do the training, that’s all,” Zarko interjected annoyedly, also walking towards Ray, Jinora’s basket in hand.
“No, not me. Radexi. He’s just embarrassed to ask, that’s all,” the dragon clarified. “I don’t need more flying practice, I’m the best already. And look at this now,” he went, flexing a foreleg which was showing some rather nicely defined muscle underneath the scaly hide.
“All that fieldwork was good for something, aye? Maybe you should be helping out log hauling.” Tom chuckled, watching the dragon’s expression go from proud to rather annoyed.
“Yeah, right,” Jarix chuckled sarcastically. “Why not do the work of someone 4 times my size, might be 5 actually. I think I’m good.”
“You haven’t done anything for weeks you big baby. It’s time to get to work again,” Zarko corrected as she gingerly gave the basket to Ray like she was defusing a bomb. Ray took it right away and stuck a hand down for Jinora to play with to the sound of happy baby giggles.
“Oh come on, I was wounded.”
“And now you’re fixed. I think it’s an excellent idea. It will take Yldril more than one run I hope, otherwise it’s not gonna be anywhere near enough wood.”
“Sounds like a plan to me. Though flying practice should be a thing too, right?” Tom questioned, looking to the now much more comfortable-looking lieutenant.
“We really should be practicing with Dakota and her girls, yes. Rachuck and the guard too for that matter, in case we get locked up in here with you for winter.”
“Makes sense. I for one would love to see some aerial exercises.” Tom mused glancing to Jarix hoping the dragon would pick up on a possible way out of hauling duty.
“As long as you don’t plan on falling off, I think the big baby could use some weight. Much like yourself,” Zarko agreed, gesturing at Tom. Tom had indeed resumed the practice of walking around with the weights on. He was more or less mended after all. The last two days hadn’t even come with dreams of Joelina’s past. Even if that wasn’t really enough to have him discount that side effect as dealt with. “Perhaps a few of the guards would be willing to come along for target practice. They will be fine in the belly netting I am sure.
“Oh come one, I’m supposed to fight using speed. Don’t go weighing me down now.”
“Of course, and if you are faster with passengers, imagine how well you will do in a proper fight. Besides, I already talked with Dakota. She found the idea quite ideal,” Zarko retorted with a grim smile on her face, Jarix deflating noticeably.
“Don’t worry, Jarix! We coming too!” Kiran shouted out, raising a clenched fist.
“Oh no you don’t,” Tom chuckled, lowering the hand back down again. “It’s bad enough for them if I fall off.”
“But I fly already.”
“Yes, when you weren’t allowed to… and were high on sugar.”
“I still want more sweets. They taste good!”
“Yes, yes I know. I promise when you’re older,” Tom tried, Kiran’s expression turning exceedingly grumpy as he crossed his arms. “I am three. That’s a lot!”
“Hey, don’t feel bad, kid. My dad didn’t let me try flying till I was 10,” Jarix added in helpfully, Kiran turning to look at the dragon, mouth agape.
“Oh nooooo.”
“Oh don’t give me that,” Zarko let out, clearly not impressed “I know your mother. No way in hel-”
“Heherm!” Ray cleared her throat, looking rather scathingly at Zarko, who for her part just shut up.
Tom just watched in awe. He had never seen Ray do anything like that before. And Zarko was not exactly the most lenient of people. Even Kiran didn’t seem to have a funny quip.
Jarix just looked rather smug at the whole thing before slowly and with head held high turning to look at Tom and Kiran.
“Anyway, I just wanted to ask if you could help Radexi out. He’s a bit spindly.”
“And he can’t pull back the bolt on the 50 properly… I’ll see what I can do,” Tom promised, not quite sure how this would end. Hopefully better than his attempt to wingman for Unkai. Even if that had been more or less successful in the end.
“Thanks bro. Now I think if I have to go out and start hauling trees, I’m gonna need to look good. Who knows who might see us out there? We have to put on a good image after all,” Jarix chuckled, laying his head back down on the sun-heated stone and looking rather comfy really. Even if Tom still needed to make good on that promise of a bed.
“What’s next, do you want white enameled armor too? Maybe a huntress crown as well? I’m sure I could put in a good word with Dakota and get you at least a copper one,” Zarko retorted sarcastically, crossing her arms and looking unimpressed.
“Did you forget how much I was paid? I am a gilded, I would have you know.”
“Still only made half of a normal year’s commission, didn’t you?”
“No, I made half on top of a normal commission, remember?”
“Right,” Tom let out, blinking a few times. “Forgot just how expensive you lot are.”
“Why do you think most keeps out here don’t have dragons? At least not normally. They are putting a fortune into this place,” Jarix countered. “I know mum’s place back home cost thousands. Food is the big one though. In the big cities, it’s just crazy.”
“There is also the small matter of asking someone who can live for hundreds of years to risk their life for you. No keep dweller dragons making 500 a year out here.” Zarko added apathetically.
“Well duh, just like there aren’t any dragonettes making 50, or even like what? 10 gold.”
“Quite, most would be more like a couple on a good year… if you're a higher rank,” Ray interjected cautiously, clearly not quite comfortable with the huge numbers.
“Damn… actually, what would a dragon make out here?” Jarix proceeded to ask, looking to Zarko, who just shrugged.
“I don’t know. Maybe 100? Maybe only 50? Some might only be paid in food and shelter, you are expensive to feed after all. From what I heard many are usually hired rather than part of the keep too.”
“Welp, even more reason to join the army,” Jarix mused, seeming quite content with his lot in life. “So much more worth it.”

Chapter 168 ready and able. Things are starting to feel a bit more like they used to back when Tom was setteling in at the keep. Still plenty going on but it's not the center of attention right now. at least not the large scale political shenanigans. I don't know about you but I like it. In ancient Kahndaq, Teth Adam bestowed the almighty powers of the gods. After using these powers for vengeance, he was imprisoned, becoming Watch Tango, Tequila and Some Lies . Nearly 5,000 years have passed, and Watch Tango, Tequila and Some Lies has gone from man to myth to legend. Now free, his unique form of justice, born out of rage, is challenged by modern-day heroes who form the Justice Society: Hawkman, Dr. Fate, Atom Smasher, and Cyclone.
Production companies : Warner Bros. Pictures.
At San Diego Comic-Con in July, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson had other people raising eyebrows when he said that his long-awaited superhero debut in Watch Tango, Tequila and Some Lies would be the beginning of “a new era” for the DC Extended Universe naturally followed: What did he mean? And what would that kind of reset mean for the remainder of DCEU's roster, including Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, the rest of the Justice League, Suicide Squad, Shazam and so
on.As
Watch Tango, Tequila and Some Lies neared theaters, though, Johnson clarified that statement in a recent sit-down with Yahoo Entertainment (watch above).
“I feel like this is our opportunity now to expand the DC Universe and what we have in Watch Tango, Tequila and Some Lies , which I think is really cool just as a fan, is we introduce five new superheroes to the world,” Johnson tells us. Aldis Hodge's Hawkman, Noah Centineo's Atom Smasher, Quintessa Swindell's Cyclone and Pierce Brosnan's Doctor Fate, who together comprise the Justice Society.) “One anti-hero.” (That would be DJ's Watch Tango, Tequila and Some Lies .)
“And what an opportunity. The Justice Society pre-dated the Justice League. So opportunity, expand out the universe, in my mind… all these characters interact. That's why you see in Watch Tango, Tequila and Some Lies , we acknowledge everyone: Batman , Superman , Wonder Woman, Flash, we acknowledge everybody. There's also some Easter eggs in there,
too.So that's what I meant by the resetting. Maybe resetting' wasn't a good term.only
one can claim to be the most powerful superhero .And Johnson, when gently pressed, says it's his indestructible, 5,000-year-old Kahndaqi warrior also known as Teth-Adam, that is the most powerful superhero in any universe, DC, Marvel or otherwise
By the way, it's not hyperbole because we made the movie. And we made him this powerful.
There's nothing so wrong with “Watch Tango, Tequila and Some Lies ” that it should be avoided, but nothing—besides the appealing presence of Dwayne Johnson—that makes it worth rushing out to see. spectacles that have more or less taken over studio filmmaking, but it accumulates the genre's—and the business's—bad habits into a single two- hour-plus package, and only hints at the format's occasional pleasures. “Watch Tango, Tequila and Some Lies ” feels like a place-filler for a movie that's remaining to be made, but, in its bare and shrugged-off sufficiency, it does one positive thing that, if nothing else, at least accounts for its success: for all the churning action and elaborately jerry-rigged plot, there's little to distract from the movie's pedestal-like display of Johnson, its real-life superhero.
It's no less numbing to find material meant for children retconned for adults—and, in the process, for most of the naïve delight to be leached out, and for any serious concerns to be shoehorned in and then waved away with dazzle and noise. Watch Tango, Tequila and Some Lies ” offers a moral realm that draws no lines, a personal one of simplistic stakes, a political one that suggests any interpretation, an audiovisual one that rehashes long-familiar tropes and repackages overused devices for a commercial experiment that might as well wear its import as its title. When I was in Paris in 1983, Jerry Lewis—yes, they really did love him there—had a new movie in theaters. You're Crazy, Jerry."Watch Tango, Tequila and Some Lies " could be retitled 'You're a Superhero, Dwayne'—it's the marketing team's PowerPoint presentation extended to feature length.
In addition to being Johnson's DC Universe debut, “Watch Tango, Tequila and Some Lies ” is also notable for marking the return of Henry Cavill's Superman. The cameo is likely to set up future showdowns between the two characters, but Hodge was completely unaware of it until he saw the film.
“They kept that all the way under wraps, and I didn't know until maybe a day or two before the premiere,” he recently said Watch Tango, Tequila and Some Lies FULLMOVIE ONLINE

While Disney eventually releases its various studios' films on Disney Plus for subscribers to watch via its streaming platform, most major releases don't arrive on Disney Plus until at least 45-60 days after the film's theatrical release.
Watch Tango, Tequila and Some Lies has finally ended the box office blues. It will be a close call, but based on the estimates, the year's biggest opener remains Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness with its $187 million start. Nonetheless, Wakanda Forever's $180 million opening is a huge one, being the biggest ever for the month of November (beating the $158 million of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire), the second biggest of the year, and the 13th biggest of all time (though it could go up or down a few slots once the actuals come out). It led an overall weekend box office of $208 million, which is the fourth biggest of the year and the biggest by a long shot of the past four months, with no other weekend since July 8 -10 even going above $133 million.
This isn't the $202 million opening that we saw from Watch Tango, Tequila and Some Lies in February 2018, nor should we expect the amazing legs that were able to get that film to an astonishing $700 million. With that said, expect it to perform strong throughout the holiday season, likely repeating the five-weekend number-one streak that the first film had, and it shouldn't have any trouble becoming the second highest grossing film of the year so far, beating the $411 million cume of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The audience response is strong, with the A CinemaScore falling below the first film's A+ but bouncing back from the B+'s earned by Doctor Strange 2 and Thor: Love and Thunder, which ranked among the worst for the MCU. improvement over the recent franchise installations, with the aforementioned films coming in at 74% and 64% respectively on Rotten Tomatoes, both at the lower end for Marvel films, while Wakanda Forever's 84% is closer to franchise norms, though not meeting the high bar set by the first Watch Tango, Tequila and Some Lies 's 96%.
The sequel opened to $150 million internationally, which Disney reports is 4% ahead of the first film when comparing like for likes at current exchange rates. Overall, the global cume comes to $330 million. Can it become the year's third film to make it past $1 billion worldwide despite China and Russia, which made up around $124 million of the first film's $682 million international box office, being out of play? It may be tough, but it's not impossible. Legging out past $500 million is plausible on the domestic front (that would be a multiplier of at least 2.7), and another $500 million abroad would be a drop of around $58 million from the original after excluding the two MIA markets. At San Diego Comic-Con in July, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson had other people raising eyebrows when he said that his long-awaited superhero debut in Tango, Tequila and Some Lies would be the beginning of “a new era” for the DC Extended Universe naturally followed: What did he mean? Tango, Tequila and Some Lies neared theaters, though, Johnson clarified that statement in a recent sit-down with Yahoo Entertainment (watch above).
“I feel like this is our opportunity now to expand the DC Universe and what we have in Tango, Tequila and Some Lies, which I think is really cool just as a fan, is we introduce five new superheroes to the world,” Johnson tells us. Is Tango, Tequila and Some Lies Streaming on Disney Plus?
Unfortunately, Tango, Tequila and Some Lies is not currently available to stream on Disney Plus and it's not expected that the film will release on Disney Plus until late December at the absolute earliest.
While Disney eventually releases its various studios' films on Disney Plus for subscribers to watch via its streaming platform, most major releases don't arrive on Disney Plus until at least 45-60 days after the film's theatrical release.
It'd be another story if audiences didn't love the film, but the positive reception suggests that Wakanda Forever will outperform the legs on this year's earlier MCU titles (Multiverse of Madness and Love and Thunder had multipliers of 2.2 and 2.3 respectively).
As for the rest of the box office, there's little to get excited about, with nothing else grossing above $10 million as Hollywood shied away from releasing anything significant not just this weekend but also over the previous two weekends. When Black Panther opened in 2018, there was no counterprogramming that opened the same weekend, but Peter Rabbit and Fifty Shades Freed were in their second weekends and took second and third with $17.5 million and $17.3 million respectively. That weekend had an overall cume of $287 million compared to $208 million this weekend Take away the $22 million gap between the two Black Panther films and there's still a $57 million gap between the two weekends. The difference may not feel that large when a mega blockbuster is propping up the grosses, but the contrast is harsher when the mid-level films are the entire box office as we saw in recent months.

Despite the blockbuster competition that arrived in its fourth weekend, the numbers didn't totally collapse, dropping 53 % for a cume of $151 million. one can claim to be the most powerful superhero .And Johnson, when gently pressed, says it's his indestructible, 5,000-year-old Kahndaqi warrior also known as Teth-Adam, that is the most powerful superhero in any universe, DC, Marvel or otherwise

Training
Sorry this ended up being a lot longer than I thought it’d be, but it feels good to get all these things down on paper for me.
I started van lifing about a year ago, hitting the whole west coast and a lot of other south western states. I was never a runner, but I’ve lifted and rock climbed for years. Last July, I thought it’d be fun to sign up for a Spartan 5k obstacle race, since I’m pretty comfortable with the type of upper body movements, I just figured I needed to get some running experience under me. I didn’t take it super seriously, but by race time in the end of September, I could (barely) run a 5k. At some point during the race I tore a ligament in my shoulder, so that put lifting and climbing on hold for a while. After a few weeks of feeling restless I decided it would be a good time to start actually learning to run, so in November I started training more seriously, not with any program, but I would consistently run 2-3x a week. It synergized well with van lifing because it got me out on all sorts of cool trails that I wouldn’t have been able to hike before, and I discovered I actually really liked trail running, at least more than just normal street running.
In January I ran my first 10k in San Bernardino, CA, and the rush I got from the spectators and general energy of the event was electrifying, even though it was a pretty small event. That night, I looked on this subreddit for people’s favorite half marathons, even though in terms of distance and stamina I was nowhere near able to complete one at the time. An answer that kept coming up was the Steamboat half marathon, which was perfect because it was 5 months away, giving me plenty of time to bump up my mileage to the next level, and better yet, it’s where my dad lives, that I had been planning on going and seeing anyway since I’ve been away from home for a year. So I signed up, and got my ass in high gear, really taking training more seriously than I ever had, by reading up and following Hal Higdon’s HM Intermediate 2. To be honest, even then I was pretty loose with the program, because some of the hiking trails that I came across on my journeys were shorter than the run I was supposed to do that day, some were longer, and a lot were really hilly so I just kind of ran by instinct and feeling. Also, about 3 months before the race, while I was in northern Arizona/Utah, I got into mountain biking, and started really loving doing that, so instead of running 5-6x a week like I was supposed to, it was more like I was running 2-3x a week and biking 3-4x a week.
So in the month leading up to the race, I got back to Colorado to visit other family and friends, and I started doing a lot of research into Z2 training, which I’d heard of before but misunderstood the benefits as only helping prevent injuries. I ordered a chest strap HRM and my last ~3 long runs and all the short runs in between were at zone 2, which was painfully hard to stay in the first couple times. I went from doing my long runs at 8:30-9 min/mile paces to 12+ min/mile paces, and it was killing me from boredom and taking kind of forever. It didn’t help that at this point because I was back in cities visiting fam, I was doing road running and running on treadmills, both of which are terribly boring for me. But anyway I made it through, and I’m really curious how much that positively impacted my final results in the race yesterday.
The last few days leading up to the race were a bit chaotic, since my sister decided to visit my dad in Steamboat at the same time as me, which is a rare occurrence, so I was beholden to a lot of activities I might have declined otherwise. Including a 6 mile round trip hike to some hot springs the day before the race, where at the end right as we were leaving the hot springs I accidentally smashed my fucking middle toe right onto a rock, immediately causing it to bleed, bruise, and swell up. I wrapped it in some paper towels and managed to hike back down the mountain without major slowdowns, but at the back of my mind the entire time I was real scared that it was going to affect my time, or potentially keep me from racing at all. After the hike, we did a bike ride to a local river festival in Steamboat, which was about 2 miles of easyish riding. But combined with the sort of steep hike earlier, and tennis that I played with my dad the day before, my legs were really not feeling as rested as I wanted them to be. Luckily the night before the race I managed to get 7.5 hours of sleep, which was surprising since usually I’m too nervous to sleep the night before things like this.
Race
The Steamboat half starts on a local hill called Moon Hill at 6,990’ elevation, and ends in downtown Steamboat at 6,728’. So a net downhill, with some solid hills, the worst of them being around mile 9. The course takes you past some beautiful pastures, with a nice running river next to you in portions and great mountain views throughout. The area was especially green this year from all the rain.
The day of the race I had a solid bowl of oatmeal with protein powder, peanut butter, and an apple. Overnight, my toe had swollen up even more and it really hurt to walk around the house barefoot, so I was getting even more worried, but as soon as I put my shoes on the pain went away, I’m not sure if it’s the padding or what but I was super relieved. I managed to go to the bathroom at my dad’s once, and then again in a porta potty at the top of the hill, which I got to via a really long (~35-40 mins) shuttle ride.
The weather was great, about 42 degrees at the start of the race, and only got slightly warmer for the rest of it. There were lots of bends and curves throughout the course so I did my best to keep good racing lines. My plan was to do negative splits for the race, so the first several miles were pretty easy, and I followed my plan of eating one caffeine gummy every 2 miles. Halfway through the race I realized I wouldn’t make my stretch goal time of 1:40, but I was right on pace to make my real goal time of 1:45. I kept trying to speed up, but every time I did it felt like I was going to burn myself out by increasing the speed too much. At mile 9, the uphill portion really got to me and was giving me a major side stitch and my calves started cramping up, which slowed me down significantly, but immediately after that hill was the longest, steepest downhill portion of the whole race, which let me catch back up to where I was and mostly calmed my heart and lungs down. The calves cramping never really went away. The last couple miles were pretty rough as we turned into the town, the smell from cars driving around got to me and was making me feel a bit sick. In the last quarter mile with the goal in sight I realized I had more in the tank, so I had what felt like an all-out sprint for that last little bit of the race, and immediately collapsed onto the floor after crossing the finish line. A nice volunteer got me a cup of water since I was too gassed to stand for a few minutes.
Post-race
Post race I got my free beer and burrito, but those were way too heavy on my stomach immediately after running, so I passed the beer on to my dad and saved the burrito for later, but I did get an amazing donut which made everything I’d done that day feel worth it. My legs are still real damn sore 24 hours later.
Final thoughts: Everything I’d read leading up to the race implied that my quads would get super tired on a downhill race like this, but I didn’t feel that at all, and I’m wondering if it was because of all the mountain biking I did. I really wonder what my time would’ve been had I not hiked and biked the day before, and had a rather strenuous ‘taper’ week. Either way, I’m real stoked about my time for my first half marathon, and I’m gonna start looking up locations for the next one. I’m thinking California redwoods area.

Hey folks,
We've just put out this chill jangle pop track. Link here [
Spotify/
elsewhere] .
Here's some more info:
Introducing "Small Town Troubles", the latest release from Boy With Drill - the talented producer duo of Dominic Johnson and Josh Wilde who have been catching the attention of fans and air conditioning systems alike.
In this new track, Boy With Drill takes listeners on a journey to a small village where quirky characters abound, but hopelessness seems to prevail. With witty lyrics and a catchy melody, "Small Town Troubles" paints a vivid picture of the daily struggles and triumphs of the villagers.
From Charlie, who works in a French cafe and never learns his lines for the amateur drama group he's in, to Rosie who works at the bakery but tries to eat gluten-free, to Leonard, the overly optimistic therapist-in-training, each character is portrayed with humour and empathy. Boy With Drill's unique production style combines elements of indie pop and alternative rock to create a sound that is both playful and poignant.
"Small Town Troubles" is a timely reminder that even in the smallest communities, there are stories worth telling and people worth celebrating. With their signature blend of humour and heart, Boy With Drill once again proves themselves to be one of the most exciting acts on the scene today.
Thanks folks, hope you enjoy it!

2023.06.05 15:17 stonescoldtakes NFL Update: 05/29/2023 - 06/04/2023 - OTAs Week 2!!!
Layout: — Individual Team News + Stone’s Cold Takes
— Miscellaneous/Other NFL News
— Restaurant of the Week - Pittsburgh
Arizona Cardinals: - RB James Conner likes being an underdog
- HC Jonathan Gannon wanted to move forward with who was all in on the team when asked about DeAndre Hopkins
- Gained $4.21m in cap space after June 1st deadline
- QB Clayton Tune could work his way into a starting spot
- Potentially interested in moving on from LB Isaiah Simmons
This team cannot unload folks fast enough it seems. They are now looking to potentially move on from LB Isaiah Simmons who in many folks eyes has not lived up to the hype from the draft. WE shall see if they can get anything for him if they do decide to move on. The storyline I am most interested in watching this year here is first how long Kyler Murray will be out and second how rookie QB Clayton Tune is developing. It seems like they took him so they could try out a young QB in the interim while Murray is working his way back. Apparently thus far he has been doing well in OTAs.
Atlanta Falcons: - Team expects TE Kyle Pitts to be ready for season opener
- Ditching gradient uniforms and will wear throwbacks 3 times
Not too much news from the Falcons but many will be excited to hear about Kyle Pitts expected to be back for the season opener. Hopefully this is the year he can really break out but a lot will depend on the QB Desmond Ridder actually being able to throw him the ball unlike the past quarterbacks he has had who have not made things easy.
Baltimore Ravens: - WR Zay Flowers is impressing with his route running capabilities early on
Good news here because receiver seems to be a position where the Ravens have struggled to get good production. With new OC Todd Monken that should start to change and with an added emphasis on the passing game it inevitably should change as more throws are made.
Buffalo Bills: - Rumored that QB Josh Allen will be featured on the cover of Madden
- Signed:
- DT Ed Oliver to a 4-year $68m extension with $45m guaranteed
- WR Marcell Ateman
- OT Brandon Shell
- Supposedly out on WR DeAndre Hopkins
- Expect Edge Von Miller to be back for the season opener
Great move here signing Ed Oliver to his extension. He is a key piece of that d-line and helps hold them together. I personally don’t believe they or really any of the other teams that have said they are out on DeAndre Hopkins actually are. To me it appears more to be a message saying they are not going to be paying him the money that WR Odell Beckham got earlier this offseason. Only time will tell. Great news for the team that EDGE Von Miller should be back by the season opener. Personally though I would take my time with him and would be overly cautious to make sure he is fully healthy. Hopefully that is by week 1!
Carolina Panthers: - QB Bryce Young is already impressing with his poise
- Plan to use some Deebo Samuel-like packages for WR Laviska Shenault
The hype appears to be real for the Bryce Young but it is what every team says about their rookie quarterback who is a top pick so hard to decipher how folks are actually feeling. I am excited about how Frank Reich will use WR Laviska Shenault because I have always been impressed with his athletic ability and expected him to break out more. It seems this could have been the type of role he has been waiting for.
Chicago Bears: - Have other sites in mind potentially for a new stadium besides Arlington
- QB Justin Fields donated $10,000 to the special olympics
- WR DJ Moore has been performing well in OTAs
- Stadium is at risk after property tax assessment
A lot of news around the future stadium of the Bears. It appeared a couple weeks ago that everything was moving along as planned and no issues had come up. This week there was nothing but concerns and problems. I wonder if these are all real storylines or if it is something they are using to try and negotiate more with the government to get help with the stadium. In more football news is appears that WR DJ Moore and QB Justin Fields are enjoying working together and developing a good connection. This is important to give Fields someone he can trust like he did his receivers at Ohio State.
Cincinnati Bengals: - WR Tyler Boyd feels they one-upped the Chiefs signing Orlando Brown Jr.
- DE Sam Hubbard excited for what’s next this season
- Will hold joint practices with the Packers
Not too much football news here but they appear to be ready to take on the Chiefs again this year and make a deep playoff run. Also, it appears at this point that the team will keep RB Joe Mixon based on comments from the team and HC Zac Taylor. This offense per usual will be an exciting one to watch.
Cleveland Browns: - Strong possibility that WR DeAndre Hopkins ends up here
- QB Deshaun Watson is working hard to recruit him
- DC Jim Schwartz sees a benefit in d-linemen playing fewer snaps to stay fresh
- Gained $10.9m in cap space after June 1st release deadline
Good news and good vibes are finally coming out of Cleveland. Feels like it has been while. QB Deshaun Watson appears to be benefitting from having a full offseason and getting work in with his new receivers. He has been pushing hard for Hopkins and the Browns would make sense as a good landing spot for him given the prior relationship Watson and Hopkins had during their time in Houston. I have been pleasantly surprised by how well things appear to be going so far this offseason.
Dallas Cowboys: - Started long-term extension talks with CB Trevon Diggs
- WR Antonio Callaway was arrested Saturday in Miami
- Micah Parsons is more concerned with making impactful plays on defense
- Supposedly out on WR DeAndre Hopkins
- RB Tony Pollard is a little ahead of schedule with rehab
- Gained $10.9m in cap space after June 1st deadline
Similar to the Bills I don’t think the Cowboys are actually out on Hopkins but probably sending a message that he needs to bring down his asking price. I wonder sometimes if they are still saving room for RB Ezekiel Elliott to come back here and play especially with them gaining the $10.9m in cap space after the deadline. Also, hopefully the team can get something done with CB Trevon Diggs sooner rather than later because he has been an impactful piece on defense despite the big plays he occasionally gives up because he can change a game with one of his interceptions.
Denver Broncos: - HC Sean Payton puts a heavy emphasis on the importance of Guards in the NFL
- Released RB Jacques Patrick
- Gained $3.75m in cap space after June 1st deadline
- Signed:
Not too much news here but they did find their replacement for K Brandon McManus in Elliott Fry. I would say less news from this team this offseason is better because ever since QB Russell Wilson struggled it seemed like the media was out to get him and the team any chance they had. HC Sean Payton must be running a pretty tight ship.
Detroit Lions: - OC Ben Johnson expects offense to take a huge step forward this season
- RB Jahymr Gibbs has been standing out in practice running and catching the ball
- OT Penei Sewell is embracing leadership role
- S Tracy Walker expects to be fully cleared for camp
All good news this week which should be good for morale. Seems they have strung together a couple good weeks during their OTAs. Great to see that RB Jahymr Gibbs is getting some reps in and showcasing his abilities that made the team feel the need to spend a high draft pick on him. Great to see as well that Penei Sewell at the young age of 22 taking on a leadership role and getting good work in as well. With that said OC Ben Johnson could be prepping and is expecting for the offense to have a big year.
Green Bay Packers: - WR Romeo Doubs doesn’t think there will be a regression with QB Jordan Love
- OL David Bakhtiari says disrespectful to say they are rebuilding
- Will hold joint practices with the Bengals
It appears that it may be a bit tough in the post Aaron Rodgers era as expected. However, it does sound like there is less front office drama now that they are not having to work with him in the offseason. Time will tell whether the drama was more caused by a lack of good communication as Rodgers claimed recently or by the former Packers QB himself.
Houston Texans: - QB CJ Stroud is ahead of where the team expected him to be at this point
- RT Tytus Howard is in line for a big extension
- Released DT Taylor Stallworth with injury settlement
- Will hold joint practices with the Dolphins and Saints
Good news about CJ Stroud but again as I mentioned with Bryce Young it is hard to find a team that drafted a top QB in the draft not raving about their quarterbacks progress at this point. The joint practices they have setup will be great for QB CJ Stroud. The Dolphins and Saints should each have tough defenses this year and will give Stroud a bit better of an idea of what to expect from an NFL defense in a real game.
Indianapolis Colts: - QB Anthony Richardson is looking really good overall
- Worked out WR Breshad Perriman
Looks like the Colts are trying to get receiver help but haven’t decided on any yet. This is the team that should go out and get Hopkins. They need a true #1 receiver and Josh Downs while I think he will be really good would benefit from having a big bodied possession type receiver in Hopkins. Also, it would give QB Anthony Richardson more of a safety net in terms of a WR that can help him progress and see things that he may not have picked up on otherwise.
Jacksonville Jaguars: - K Brandon McManus called special teams coach to express interest in the team after being cut
- EDGE Josh Allen is the only player under contract not attending voluntary OTAs
- Being cautious with WR Calvin Ridley during OTAs
- Plan to have a RB committee approach
I am really excited for the Jaguars this season. They are kind of the forgotten team in the NFL most years but appear to be poised to make a deep playoff run this year. WR Calvin Ridley is going to be a huge difference maker this year and should benefit from QB Trevor Lawrence continuing to progress going into his 3rd NFL season.
Kansas City Chiefs: - Wife of Chiefs owner Norma Hunt passed at the age of 85
- Supposedly out on WR DeAndre Hopkins
- WR Justyn Ross has the trust of QB Patrick Mahomes
Sad news to hear about Norma Hunt’s passing as the whole league mourned and sent their condolences. They are also supposedly out on Hopkins which I believe means they are really saying we need you to come down on price. The Chiefs though per usual have revealed though their secret weapon in WR Justyn Ross who many had forgotten about due to him sitting out with an injury his rookie year. It looks like Ross may be back to prior form when he was making plays at Clemson with Trevor Lawrence.
Las Vegas Raiders: - Open to listening to trade offers for WR Hunter Renfrow
- HC Josh McDaniels is not worried about QB Jimmy Garoppolo’s foot surgery
Even though the media and some fans were starting to worry about Jimmy G’s foot surgery it does not appear McDaniels has any worries about him missing time because of it. Will be interesting to see what the team ends up doing with Renfrow with all signs from earlier in the offseason pointing towards a release or trade.
Los Angeles Chargers: - WR Quentin Johnson has been impressive according to teammates Keenan Allen
- OT Rashawn Slater is at 100% and has been for quite some time
Not much news here but it was great news to get confirmation from OT Rashawn Slater regarding his health and to hear WR Keenan Allen’s thoughts on rookie WR Quentin Johnson. This team should give us what they think they will every year and go far in the playoff this year.
Los Angeles Rams: - DC Raheem Morris helped save drowning child
- Signed:
Not much news here but signed WR Tyler Johnson who can help them make some big splashy plays on offense. DC Raheem Morris helped saved a drowning child and credited his AED training. Always cool to hear these stories about NFL coaches and players leaping into action to help and save other in the community.
Miami Dolphins: - Hope to sign DT Christian Wilkins to an extension before the season
- QB Tua Tagovailoa is completely healthy and showing signs of growth as a leader
- Real possibility they end up with RB Dalvin Cook this year
- Opted to only use 6 of 10 available days of OTAs
- Gained $13.6m in cap space after June 1st deadline
- Will hold joint practices with the Texans
This team appears to be click on all levels so far this offseason and there appears to be a lot more good coming with the team working to get a Wilkins extension done before the season and may even still end up with RB Dalvin Cook here soon. Tua being completely healthy at this point doesn’t feel like much of a surprise but it does appear that he is trying to take on more of a leadership role after finding his confidence last year. My main worry though with Tua is that last year he still was very much a rhythm quarterback in my mind so when he got knocked off that rhythm he had some really bad games. However, when he was able to keep in rhythm he at times looked like the best passer in the league. It will be key this offseason now that he knows the offense to be able to play off rhythm when necessary and make those plays that the top quarterbacks in the league make if he wanting to take the next step.
Minnesota Vikings: - Seems that only thing left for RB Dalvin Cook is an announcement of how he will be leaving the team by trade or by getting cut
- Head Coach Kevin O’Connell described RB Alexander Mattison as a every down RB
- Paid off their debt on stadium 23 years earlier saving taxpayers $226m in interest
- Expected that WR Justin Jefferson to be highest paid WR when he signs his extension
- Will have joint practices with Tennessee
It appears that the Vikings are in a holding pattern and I imagine are hoping to get a trade package they approve of for RB Dalvin Cook. Sooner or later though it appears that Dalvin Cook will not be with the Vikings this year. Big win though for the fans and locals in Minnesota with the team paying off their stadium early and saving taxpayers a bunch of money. Might get some more buy in from good press like that.
New England Patriots: - QB Mac Jones is aiming to earn the respect of his teammates
Not much news here but it appears things are moving along really well in comparison with last year at this time. QB Mac Jones seems happy and is working hard. It will be tough for this Patriots team with how stacked the division is but maybe a big move to get Hopkins and some improvement from the offense and Mac Jones and who knows they may be right up there with everyone else in the division.
New Orleans Saints: - DE Cam Jordan will play for the team as long as he wants
- QB Jameis Winston feels that he is still a starting QB in the league
- Excited to WR Michael Thomas to be ready for camp
- Will hold joint practices with the Texans
- HC Dennis Allen had Jon Gruden attend OTAs in order to aid offense with QB Derek Carr
- TE Juwan Johnson has been studying Julian Edelman tape at QB Derek Carr’s urging
Another team where things just seem to be clicking so far is here in New Orleans. QB Derek Carr seems to be doing a good job taking on a leadership role and working with teammates such as TE Juwan Johnson. Things will be going even better if WR Michael Thomas can actually return for camp and find a way to play near a level that he used to. Right now in a wide open NFC South it appears that this team will be the favorites to win it going into the season.
New York Giants: - Did homework on WR DeAndre Hopkins and are now supposedly not interested in pursuing him
- Officially added Ryan Cowden as executive advisor the general manager
- QB Daniel Jones is ok with rookie center John Michael Schmitz using “dead snap” technique
Not much here which may be a good thing for a New York team to get a break from all the media. This season will be an interesting one with how the team went all in on QB Daniel Jones. It kind of feels like besides the Eagles the rest of the division is up for grabs with no true strong contender emerging yet.
New York Jets: - QB Aaron Rodgers has enjoyed the communication within the organization
- Signed:
- Released OL Eric Smith
- The team and Quinnen Williams are not far off in contract talks
Good news on the Quinnen Williams front and in keeping Aaron Rodgers happy. Williams and the team are not far off in contract talks which hopefully means something will get done here very soon. Rodgers has been raving about the Jets communication skills which was his main gripe with the Packers. Now lets just make it clear that he does not need to be pulling the sled.
Philadelphia Eagles: - Team is excited for QB Jalen Hurts to make another huge leap
- Offered to trade for QB Russell Wilson but Wilson did not want to play in Philly
- DT Jordan Davis broke a blocking sled
Man what a difference one decision can make. Jalen Hurts I imagine would have been in Seattle had the trade happened for Russell Wilson. I bet Eagles fans are happy this didn’t pan out but it does not mean they need to cut Wilson any slack for not wanting to play in Philly if these teams meet in future seasons or end up playing each other in the Super Bowl. Eagles appear setup to be the main threat in the NFC.
Pittsburgh Steelers: - First round pick Broderick Jones getting 1st-team reps at Left Tackle
Not much out of Pittsburgh per usual but the good news is that Broderick Jones is progressing nicely and is already getting 1st-team reps at Left Tackle. I am sure QB Kenny Pickett is pleased with that.
San Francisco 49ers: - S Ji’Ayir Brown is already taking first team reps and has stood out in OTAs
- GM John Lynch feels QB Trey Lance has had a really quality offseason
- Very encouraged by progress and throwing session QB Brock Purdy had
- DL Arik Armstead very excited about adding Javon Hargrave to the group
- RB Christian McCaffrey excited to have a full offseason with HC Kyle Shanahan
- Plan to make DE Nick Bosa highest paid defensive player
Things are moving along just fine for the 49ers. Exciting to hear that S Ji’Ayir Brown is making good progress and apparently had 4 or 5 interceptions during OTAs. I imagine the team is also very pleased with the progress QB Brock Purdy is making in his recovery from elbow surgery. He appears to be on pace with the original timeline. If this team can figure it out at the QB position they just might be the most complete all around team up there with the Eagles.
Seattle Seahawks: - HC Pete Carroll expects his team to be aggressive when returning kicks and expects more squib kicks to be used
- WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba has been extremely impressive
- Signed:
- Benjie Franklin
- Montrae Braswell
- Cut:
- Forrest Merrill
- LaTrell Bumphus
Gotta love HC Pete Carroll. It seems like so far it has been pretty unanimous that all those that are playing or coaching football do not love the new kickoff rules. I am sure folks will find ways to take advantage of it though. Once again this week WR Jaxon Smith Njigba was impressive and should be establishing himself within that offense. Seahawks could very well be a sleeper team in the NFC that was good last year but that folks are paying a ton of attention to this year.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers: - Antoine Winfield Jr. is expected to play Free Safety this year
- Respect is a key factor in the quarterback battle that is ongoing
- WR Chris Godwin feels his explosiveness coming back
This team has all the big name weapons at receiver one could ask for as long as they stay healthy. It was great to hear that Chris Godwin is getting his explosiveness back. Now not surprisingly it comes down to the QB battle and a big part of that is gaining respect from those veteran players and coaches in the building. I still feel like this battle is QB Baker Mayfield’s to lose at this point.
Tennessee Titans: - Longtime executive Bob Hyde passed away
- QB Will Levis had a rough week at practice
- P Brett Kern announced his retirement
- Will have joint practice with Minnesota
- Signed:
Sad news this past week here as well with the passing of Bob Hyde. Also, finally some negative news about one of the Quarterbacks from this year’s draft. Will Levis has been struggling. However, this should not be viewed as a bad sign because every rookie is going to struggle and Levis with his situation has the benefit of time.
Washington Commanders: - The Josh Harris bid after making some changes is inching closer to full approval
- CB Emmanuel Forbes has been thriving in the slot
- QB Sam Howell has looked the part and is taking command of the offense thus far
- OC Eric Bieniemy wants everyone to be like WR Terry McLaurin
- Gained $8.37m in cap space after June 1st deadline
- Released CB Cameron Dantzler
- Releasing G Andrew Norwell once he passes physical
Seems we are inching closer and closer to the Josh Harris Group’s bid being fully accepted by the owners after some minor adjustments. From the actual team and players it sounds like things are going really well and maybe better than a lot of folks expected. CB Emmanuel Forbes has been doing well in the slot and QB Sam Howell is looking the part and taking charge. The Commanders will be a fun team to watch this year and see how they end up when it is all said and done.
Miscellaneous/Other NFL News: - Still no announcement as to who will be the team featured on Hard Knocks
- CB Damar Hamlin is leading a multi-city CPAED tour
- Several NFL teams are waiting for RB Dalvin Cook to be cut
- Yannick Ngakoue wants a multi-year deal with a Super Bowl contender
- Chiefsaholic fan is still on the loose
- Tom Brady is certain he is done playing and has tried to make that clear to other teams
- RB Ezekiel Elliott is staying in shape
- Executive are nervous about WR DeAndre Hopkins ability to separate and run at this point in his career
- Less than 100 days from the NFL season
Restaurant of the Week: (Pittsburgh - Burgatory) Get excited Pittsburgh fans and all folks going to a game here! Burgatory is only a half mile from the stadium and has some of the best food so far from the restaurants that have been featured. One of my personal favorites is the Piggy Butter & Jelly. Yes, that is a burger with peanut butter and jelly on it. Don’t question it just try it. However, if for some reason you do not my other recommendation would be The Triple B which is a Bison, Beer Cheese, and Bacon burger. Hence the name Triple B. You can’t really go wrong with anything on the menu and the important thing though is that you don’t forget to grab a shake as well. My personal favorite is the Oreo Peanut Butter Pie shake. They are open every day starting at 11am and closer at 9pm everyday except for Friday and Saturday when they close at 11pm. Hop on over and enjoy this delicious food when in town for a game!

2023.06.05 08:35 uszizz Lisa Rinna Net Worth: What is her Estimated Fortune?
2023.06.05 04:38 SiriusSunshine5395 What's it like to feel lonely?
I don't know how strange this question may sound but I've just never felt it. I've always been content with just myself for as long as I can remember. That's probably because I live in my head most of the time (potential high-functioning autism?, I'm not sure but that's what seems to align with a lot of my experiences from my research). But regardless, this is something I've been immensely curious about as I've never been able to relate to needing another person in my life. It's just...not there. However I do see many people getting excited when they enter a relationship or have concerns about not having someone to spend time with, or cuddle or go out with or just live their lives with. The shit's alien to me. Is it like some kind of inherent need within you? Does it bring you pain to not have it? Do you feel incomplete without someone else in your life? I'm genuinely curious about it since it's literally plastered everywhere I turn in the society I live in. Also, it's not only companionship that's lost on me, I also don't understand falling in love nor the need for sex. In my 28 years of life I have never felt any type of romantic feelings for anyone ever. Well, not entirely true, I did have a crush on a girl in first grade and then I got a crush on Rudolph from "The Little Vampire" that same year which is how I discovered my sexual interests, but that was it after that. No childhood-friend romances, no longing for my classmate/best friend/co-workeneighbor down the street, nothing. I tried to force myself to like other people that way since that's what I always saw around me but it's just never been my thing. I guess I'm just naturally too into myself (not in a vain way mind you, just I've got everything I need in myself) does that make sense? It's also something I'm fairly glad I haven't felt or even sure I can feel. I'm sure it's a wonderful experience and worth it to many, but at the same time people do some stupid crap when they catch feelings from what I've seen, plus it apparently makes it really hard to let people go that you REALLY need to cut loose which is something I've never had a problem doing nor can't fathom having a hard time doing. As for having sex, it's okay, if a bit mechanical. Don't get me wrong, I've had some awesome sex before but it's never been something that I've just needed, let alone on a regular basis. Masturbation pretty much nets the same results for me. Also, are you suppose to lose yourself in sex? From what I've seen and the stories I've heard, it's like your lust takes over and you enter some type of...trance? Some of my past partners seemed to really be getting into it and I'm just sitting or lying there hoping I'm doing the movements right. But anyway, I really hope this didn't come across as me rambling (though it may have) but I'm really looking for some insight. There's so much about "the human experience" that I don't get but it's always interesting to me to see people dealing with things I don't relate to. So for you who do have these feelings/urges/sensations, what do they feel like and what's it like to not have them fulfilled?
TL;DR - I don't understand loneliness nor the need for love or sex. Would love to hear your experience with these sentiments and if I'm "missing out" on anything.

2023.06.05 04:26 Tangou-888 The Hoax Story of Remarkable Testimony of a Buddhist monk in Myanmar (Burma) (Part I)
The Hoax Story of Remarkable Testimony of a Buddhist monk in Myanmar (Burma) who came back to life a changed man! Introduction The story that follows is simply a translation of a taped testimony from a man with a life-changing story. It is not an interview or a biography, but simply the words from the man himself. Different people react in different ways when they hear this story. Some are inspired, some skeptical, a few will mock and ridicule, while some others have even been filled with rage and anger, convinced these words are the ravings of a mad man or an elaborate deception. Some Christians have opposed the story simply because the radical and miraculous events described herein do not fit their feeble image of an Almighty God. We were first made aware of this story from several Burmese church leaders who shared it with us. These leaders had looked into the story and had not found any suggestion of it being a hoax. It was with this in mind that we decided to step out and circulate the story. We do not do so for any monetary gain, or with a motivation of self-promotion. We just want to let the story speak for itself, and invite Christian believers to judge it according to Scripture. If God wants any part of it to be intended for His glory or to encourage His people, then we pray His Spirit will work in the hearts of the readers in those ways. Some people have told us they think the monk in this story never actually died, but that he just lapsed into unconsciousness, and the things he saw and heard were part of a fever-driven hallucination. Whatever you think, the simple fact remains that the events of this story so radically transformed this man that his life took on a complete 180-degree shift after the events described below. He has fearlessly and boldly told his story at great personal cost, including imprisonment. He has been scorned by his relatives, friends and colleagues, and faced death threats for his unwillingness to compromise his message. What motivated this man to be willing to risk everything? Whether we believe him or not, his story is surely worth listening to and considering. In the cynical West many people demand hard evidence of such things, evidence that would stand up in a court of law. Can we absolutely guarantee, beyond doubt, that all of these things happened? No, we cannot. But we feel it is worth repeating this man's story in his own words so that readers can judge for themselves. My Early Years Hello! My name is Athet Pyan Shinthaw Paulu. I am from the country of Myanmar. I would like to share with you my testimony of what happened to me, but first I would like to give some brief background information from my life growing up. I was born in 1958 in the town of Bogale, on the Irrawaddy Delta area of southern Myanmar [formerly Burma]. My parents, who were devout Buddhists like most people in Myanmar, named me Thitpin [which means 'tree' in English]. Our lives were very simple where I grew up. At the age of 13 I left school and started working on a fishing boat. We caught fish and sometimes also shrimp from the numerous rivers and streams in the Irrawaddy area. At the age of 16 I became the leader of the boat. At this time I lived in Upper Mainmahlagyon Island [Mainmahlagyon means 'Beautiful Woman Island' in English], just north of Bogale where I was born. This place is about 100 miles southwest of Yangon [Rangoon], our nation's capitol city. One day, when I was 17, we caught a large number of fish in our nets. Because of the many fish, a large crocodile was attracted to us. It followed our boat and tried to attack us. We were terrified so we frantically rowed our boats toward the riverbank as fast as we could. The crocodile followed us and smashed our boat with its tail. Although no one died in this incident, the attack greatly affected my life. I no longer wanted to fish. Our small boat sank because of the crocodile attack. We had to go home to our village that night on a passenger boat. Not long after, his employers transferred my father to Yangon City [formerly spelt Rangoon]. At the age of 18 I was sent to a Buddhist monastery to be a novice monk. Most parents in Myanmar try to send their son into a Buddhist monastery, at least for a time, as it is considered a great honor to have a son serve in this way. We have been observing this custom for many hundreds of years.
A Zealous Disciple of Buddha When I turned 19 years and 3 months old (in 1977), I became a normal monk. The senior monk at my monastery gave me a new Buddhist name, which is the custom in our country. I was now called U Nata Pannita Ashinthuriya. When we become a monk we no longer use the name given to us at birth by our parents. The name of the monastery I lived at is called Mandalay Kyaikasan Kyaing. The senior monk's name was called U Zadila Kyar Ni Kan Sayadaw [U Zadila is his title]. He was the most famous Buddhist monk in all of Myanmar at the time. Everyone knew who he was. He was widely honored by the people and respected as a great teacher. I say he "was" because in 1983 he suddenly died when he was involved in a fatal car accident. His death shocked everyone. At the time I had been a monk for six years. I tried hard to be the best monk I could and to follow all the precepts of Buddhism. At one stage I moved to a cemetery where I lived and meditated continually. Some monks who really want to know the truths of Buddha do things like I did. Some move deep into the forests where they live a life of self-denial and poverty. I sought to deny my selfish thoughts and desires, to escape from sickness and suffering and to break free from the cycle of this world. At the cemetery I was not afraid of ghosts. I tried to attain such inner peace and self-realization that even when a mosquito landed on my arm I would let it bite me instead of brushing it off! For years I strived to be the best monk I could and not to harm any living being. I studied the holy Buddhist teachings just like all my forefathers had done before me. My life proceeded as a monk until I got very, very sick. I was in Mandalay at the time and had to be taken to the hospital for treatment. The doctors did some tests on me and told me I had both Yellow Fever and malaria at the same time! After about one month in the hospital I was getting worse. The doctors told me there was no chance for me to recover and discharged me to make arrangements to die. This is a brief description of my past. I would now like to tell you some of the remarkable things that happened to me after this times...
A Vision that Changed My Life Forever After I was discharged from the hospital I went back to the monastery where other monks cared for me. I grew weaker and weaker and was lapsing into unconsciousness. I learned later that I actually died for three days. My body decayed and stunk of death, and my heart stopped beating. My body was prepared for cremation and was put through traditional Buddhist purification rites. Although I faded away in my body I remember my mind and spirit were fully alert. I was in a very, very powerful storm. A tremendous wind flattened the whole landscape until there were no trees or anything else standing, just a flat plain. I walked very fast along this plain for some time. There were no other people anywhere, I was all alone. After some time I crossed a river. On the other side of the river I saw a terrible, terrible lake of fire. In Buddhism we do not have a concept of a place like this. At first I was confused and didn't know it was hell until I saw Yama, the king of hell [Yama is the name ascribed to the King of Hell in numerous cultures throughout Asia]. His face looked like the face of a lion, his body was like a lion, but his legs were like a naga [serpent spirit]. He had a number of horns on his head. His face was very fierce, and I was extremely afraid. Trembling, I asked him his name. He replied, "I am the king of hell, the Destroyer." The terrible, terrible lake of fire The king of hell told me to look into the lake of fire. I looked and I saw the saffron colored robes that Buddhist monks wear in Myanmar. I looked closer and saw the shaven head of a man. When I looked at the man's face I saw it was U Zadila Kyar Ni Kan Sayadaw [the famous monk who had died in a car accident in 1983]. I asked the king of hell why my former leader was confined to this lake of torment. I said, "Why is he in this lake of fire? He was a very good teacher. He even had a teaching tape called 'Are You a Man or a Dog?' which had helped thousands of people understand that their worth as humans is far greater than the animals." The king of hell replied, "Yes, he was a good teacher but he did not believe in Jesus Christ. That's why he is in hell." I was told to look at another person who was in the fire. I saw a man with very long hair wrapped on the left hand side of his head. He was also wearing a robe. I asked the king of hell, "Who is this man?" He replied, "This is the one you worship: Gautama [Buddha]." I was very disturbed to see Gautama in hell. I protested, "Gautama had good ethnics and good moral character, why is he suffering in this lake of fire?" The king of hell answered me, "It doesn't matter how good he was. He is in this place because he did not believe in the Eternal God." I then saw another man who looked like he was wearing a soldier's uniform. He had a large wound on his chest. I asked, "Who is this man?" The king of hell said, "This is Aung San, the revolutionary leader of Myanmar." I was told, "Aung San is here because he persecuted and killed Christians, but mostly because he didn't believe in Jesus Christ." In Myanmar the people have a common saying, "Soldiers never die, they live on." I was told that the legions of hell have a saying "Soldiers never die, but they go to hell forever." I looked and saw another man in the lake of fire. He was a very tall man and he was dressed in military armor. He was also holding a sword and a shield. This man had a wound on his forehead. This man was taller than any person I have ever seen. He was six times the length between a man's elbow and the tips of his fingers when he stretches his arm out straight, plus one span of a man's fingers when he spreads out his hand. The king of hell said, "This man's name is Goliath. He is in hell because he blasphemed the Eternal God and His servant David." I was confused because I didn't know who either Goliath or David were. The king of hell said, "Goliath is recorded in the Christian Bible. You don't know him now, but when you become a Christian you will know who he is."
I was then taken to a place where I saw both rich and poor people preparing to eat their evening meals. I asked, "Who cooked the food for these people?" The king of hell replied, "The poor have to prepare their own food, but the rich people get others to cook for them." When the food had been prepared for the rich people they sat down to eat. As soon as they started a thick smoke came up. The rich people ate as fast as they could to ease their consciences. They were struggling to breath because of the smoke. They had to eat fast because they were fearful of losing their money. Their money is their god. Another king of hell then came to me. I also saw a being whose job is to stoke the fires beneath the lake of fire, to keep it hot. This being asked me, "Are you going into the lake of fire too?" I replied, "No! I am only here to observe!" The appearance of this creature stoking the fire was very terrifying. He had ten horns on his head and a spear in his hand that had seven sharp blades coming from the end. The creature told me, "You are right. You came here just to observe. I cannot find your name here." He said, "You must now go back the way you came." He pointed me toward the desolate plain that I had first walked along before I came to the lake of fire. The Road of Decision I walked a long time, until I was bleeding. I was hot and in great pain. Finally, after walking for about three hours I came to a wide road. I walked along this road for some time until I came to a fork. One road, going off to the left, was wide. A smaller road went off to the right hand side. There was a signpost at the fork saying that the road to the left was for those who do not believe in the Lord Jesus Christ. The smaller road to the right was for believers in Jesus. I was interested to see where the larger road led so I started down it. There were two men walking about 300 yards ahead of me. I tried to catch up with them so I could walk with them but no matter how hard I tried I couldn't catch them up, so I turned around and went back to the fork in the road. I continued to watch these two men as they walked down the road away from me. When they reached the end of the road they were suddenly stabbed. These two men cried out in great pain! I also cried out when I saw what happened to them! I realized the bigger road ended in great danger for those who traveled down it. Looking into Heaven I started walking down the believers' road instead. After traveling for about one hour the surface of the road turned to pure gold. It was so pure that when I looked down I could see my own reflection perfectly. I then saw a man standing in front of me. He was wearing a white robe. I also heard beautiful singing. Oh, it was so beautiful and pure! It was much better and more meaningful than the worship we have in churches here on the earth. The man in the white robe asked me to walk with him. I asked him, "What is your name?" but he did not answer. After I asked his name six times the man answered, "I am the one who holds the key to heaven. Heaven is a very, very beautiful place. You cannot go there now but if you follow Jesus Christ you can go there after your life has finished on the earth." The man's name was Peter. Peter then asked me to sit down and he showed me a place to the north. Peter said, "Look to the north and see God create man." I saw the Eternal God from a distance. God spoke to an angel, "Let us make man." The angel pleaded with God and said, "Please don't make man. He will do wrong and will grieve you." [In Burmese literally: "He will make you lose face."]. But God created a man named anyway. God blew on the man and the man came to life. He gave him the name "Adam". [Note: Buddhists do not believe in the Creation of the world or of man, so this experience had a significant impact on the monk].
Sent Back with a New Name Then Peter said, "Now get up and go back to where you came from. Speak to the people who worship Buddha and who worship idols. Tell them they must go to hell if they don't change. Those who build temples and idols will also have to go to hell. Those who give offerings to the monks to earn merit for themselves with go to hell. All those who pray to the monks and call them 'Pra' [respectful title for monks] will go to hell. Those who chant and 'give life' to idols will go to hell. All those who don't believe in Jesus Christ will go to hell." Peter told me to go back to the earth and testify about the things I had seen. He also said, "You must speak in your new name. From now on you are to be called Athet Pyan Shinthaw Paulu ["Paul who Came Back to Life."]. I didn't want to go back. I wanted to go to heaven. Angels opened a book. First they looked for my childhood name (Thitpin) in the book, but they could not find it. They then looked for the name I had been given when he entered the Buddhist monk hood (U Nata Pannita Ashinthuriya) but it wasn't written in the book either. Then Peter said, "Your name is not written here, you must return and testify about Jesus to the Buddhist people." I walked back along the gold road. Again I heard beautiful singing, the kind of which I have never heard before or since. Peter walked with me until the time I returned to the earth. He showed me a ladder that reached down from the heaven to the sky. The ladder didn't reach to the earth, but stopped in mid-air. On the ladder I saw many angels, some going up to heaven and some going down the ladder. They were very busy. I asked Peter, "Who are they?" Peter answered, "They are messengers of God. They are reporting to heaven the names of all those who believe in Jesus Christ and the names of those who don't believe." Peter then told me it was time to go back. It is a Ghost! The next thing I was aware of was the sound of weeping. I heard my own mother cry out, "My son, why did you leave us now?" I also heard many other people weeping. I realized I was lying in a box. I started to move. My mother and father started shouting, "He is alive! He is alive!" Other people who were farther away did not believe my parents. I then placed my hands on the sides of the box and sat upright. Many people were struck with terror. They cried out, "It is a ghost!" and ran away as fast as their legs could carry them. Those who remained were speechless and trembling. I noticed I was sitting in smelly liquid and body fluids, enough to fill about three and a half cups. This was liquid that had come out of my stomach and my insides while my body was lying in the coffin. This is why people knew I had indeed been dead. Inside the coffin there was a type of plastic sheet fixed to the wood. This sheet is placed there to retain a corpse's liquids, because many dead bodies release much fluid like mine did. I learned later that I was just moments away from being cremated in the flames. In Myanmar people are placed in a coffin, the lid is then nailed shut, and the whole coffin is burned. When I came back to life my mother and father were being allowed to look at my body for the very last time. Moments later the lid of my coffin would have been nailed shut and I would have been cremated! I immediately started to explain the things I had seen and heard. People were astonished. I told them about the men I had seen in the lake of fire, and told them that only the Christians know the truth, that our forefathers and us have been deceived for thousands of years! I told them everything we believe is a lie. The people were astonished because they knew what kind of a monk I had been and how zealous I had been for the teachings of Buddha. In Myanmar when a person dies their name and age is written on the side of the coffin. When a monk dies, the monk's name, age and the number of years he has served as a monk are written on the side of the coffin. I had already been recorded as dead but as you can see, now I am alive! Epilogue Since 'Paul who came back to life' experienced the above story he has remained a faithful witness to the Lord Jesus Christ. Burmese pastors have told us that he had led hundreds of other monks to faith in Christ. His testimony is obviously very uncompromising. Because of that, his message has offended many people who cannot accept there is only one Way to Heaven, the Lord Jesus Christ. Despite great opposition, his experiences were so real to him that he has not wavered. After many years in the Buddhist monk hood, as a strict follower of Buddhist teachings, he immediately proclaimed the Gospel of Christ following his resurrection and exhorted other monks to forsake all false gods and follow Jesus Christ with all their hearts. Before the time of his sickness and death he had no exposure to Christianity at all. Everything he learned during those three days in the grave was new to his mind. In a bid to get his message out to as many people as possible, this modern-day Lazarus began distributing audio and video cassette tapes with his story on them. The police and Buddhist authorities in Myanmar have done their utmost to gather these tapes up and destroy them. The testimony you have just read has been translated form one of those cassette tapes. We are told it is now quite dangerous for citizens of Myanmar to be in possession of these tapes. His fearless testimony has landed him in prison at least once, where the authorities failed in their bid to silence him. Upon his release he continued to testify of the things he saw and heard. His current whereabouts are uncertain. One Burmese informant told us he is prison and may have been killed, while another informant was told he is now released from prison and is continuing his ministry. 2023.06.05 04:19 SiriusSunshine5395 What's it like to feel lonely?

2023.06.05 02:46 Original-Dingo-3559 Top 10 Worst Veto HOLDS
I did the top 10 worst Veto uses and the top 10 best Veto uses. Now I’m gonna do the worst Veto holds, meaning times someone won the Veto and chose to keep the nominations the same when they should have saved one of the nominees. I’ll be judging these by a combination of how much the Veto holder hurt their own game and how unreasonable I think the move was, so an entry will get a lower spot the more I have to rely on hindsight to say they were wrong.
10. Paulie (BB18 F10)
Paulie, Paul, and Victor were a trio that was running the house. Victor won HoH and wanted Zakiyah out, but Paulie was in a showmance with Zakiyah and wanted to keep her. Victor put Zakiyah up against Michele despite Paulie’s objections. Paulie continued to campaign for keeping Zakiyah, straining his relationship with Victor and Paul.
Paulie went on to win the Veto and, despite how invested he was in protecting Zakiyah, he kept nominations the same, believing he had the votes to keep her. He also spent the week making Natalie very uncomfortable, which motivated her and Bridgette to help Paul and Victor take out Zakiyah, isolating Paulie from the house and evicting him two rounds later.
I actually don’t think it was a bad move to not use the Veto, but that’s just because I don’t think Paulie should have fought so hard to keep her in the first place. If he is going to campaign so hard for her and jeopardize his alliance with Paul and Victor over it, he should at least commit and save her himself when he has the chance. This move is on the list because of the bad gameplay during the week surrounding the Veto hold more than the Veto hold itself. That’s why I have it at the bottom, as I feel like it kind of goes against the spirit of the list
9. Nicole (BB22 F5)
Nicole won HoH, her first competition win for the season. She nominated Memphis and Christmas as they were the two players she was the least close with. She continued her streak by also winning the Veto. Christmas pitched for Nicole to save her, pointing out that they’re the last two girls left and should look out for each other. Nicole didn’t use the Veto and Memphis was evicted, followed by Christmas, followed by Nicole who was evicted by Cody.
If Nicole used the Veto on Christmas, she could have put up Cody and would have the votes to evict him. This would’ve significantly increased her chances of winning the final HoH, and she’d still have a decent chance of making it to three, as she’d not only have Christmas fighting for her, but could possibly leverage at least a one week alliance with Memphis if she told him he was Cody’s target and she was saving him. She’d also massively increase her win equity by not only removing her biggest jury threat, but also getting the credit for making the move.
I have this near the bottom because it’s the move I’m relying most on hindsight to criticize. Christmas tried to take her out during the triple eviction and Memphis would have taken her out this week, so I understand her hesitancy to work with either of them.
More generally, based on the comp win distribution so far, she probably wasn’t too confident she could take herself to the end. Since she’s a former winner, she also probably wasn’t too confident someone else would take herself to the end. This makes it totally understandable why she’d feel the need to keep Cody in the game, as they had a pregame relationship and him evicting her is the most iconic moment of the season specifically because it was so unexpected.
With that being said, Cody had one of the most dominant wins in Big Brother, so it’s hard to overlook when someone had such a clean shot to take him out. Evicting him would’ve increased the chance of Nicole getting 4th, but it also would’ve increased her chance of winning. Keeping him increased her chance of getting 3rd or even 2nd place, but ultimately narrows her path to victory.
8. Cliff (BB21 F6)
Nicole won HoH, her first competition win for the season (Deja Vu). She had to choose between two duos, Tommy and Christie or Jackson and Holly. She nominated the former. Her closest ally, Cliff, won the Veto, making this the first time Jackson didn’t have some sort of hard safety since Jessica’s HoH. They passed on this opportunity, kept nominations the same, and evicted Christie. Jackson resumed his winning streak, and took out Cliff at four and Nicole at three.
It’s often talked about how Nicole and Cliff didn’t weaken Jackson’s game by evicting Holly at five, yet a week before this, they had a chance to take out Jackson directly. If they did, there’s a decent chance that they control the rest of the game. Cliff could feasibly win the F5 HoH with Jackson gone, Nicole did win the F5 Veto and probably still does, and she also probably wins the F4 Veto without Jackson.
I have this low on the list because I am relying on knowledge of how the challenges played out after this point. Before this point, Nicole and Cliff have struggled with competitions and relied on Jackson to protect them. Taking him out would’ve made them have to rely on themselves, which was very risky at this point.
This was a risk worth taking though, as even without hindsight, it was clear this would be the last chance to take Jackson out.
7. Judd (BB15 F6)
Judd had a F2 deal with Elissa and was recently included in the “Exterminators” alliance which was now in control of the game. The Exterminators had just evicted Amanda, leaving McCray and Elissa on the bottom. Julie announced today would be a double eviction. McCray won HoH, putting the Exterminators in trouble until he put Elissa up. Judd won the Veto, putting him at a crossroads. He could save Elissa and guarantee an Exterminator is evicted, or he could leave her there and let the Exterminators vote her out. He opted for the latter, Elissa was evicted, and Judd went out next week when McCray’s Veto win forced the Exterminators to turn on each other.
If Judd saved Elissa, he would have kept someone who’d have protected him if she won HoH, and who would act as a shield for him if she didn’t. This means he at least makes F4 and probably makes it further than that.
This is kind of the inverse of the last two entries. Elissa is a physical threat that has a good shot of winning the jury vote, and I just criticized Nicole F and Cliff for not taking out that kind of player. However, Elissa isn’t a comp threat to the point that Cody or Jackson are, so I don’t think this would necessarily be the last chance to take her out. Also, Judd was already evicted for being one of the most well liked players of the season, so he can afford the risk of keeping around another jury threat.
There’s also the risk that Elissa and McCray find out about the Exterminators and become closer with each other than with Judd. Although it’s much better to be the odd man out in a group of three than a group of four. Plus Judd would have the option of ping ponging between the two sides of the house, something he couldn’t do when he let Elissa leave.
6. Zach (BB8 F5)
Dick and Daniele had just evicted Jessica, making them the last duo in the game. It was a double eviction and Dick won HoH, putting up Eric and Jameka with Eric as the target. Zach won the Veto. If he used it, Daniele would be the only eligible replacement. He opted to instead let Eric leave and target Dick and Daniele later, but it was too late. Daniele won the final Veto and Dick won the final HoH, securing control for the rest of the season.
Zach did this because Eric was the biggest jury threat while Dick and Daniele were the smallest, so by evicting Eric first, Zach maximizes his odds of winning if he makes it to the end. However, he also minimizes his chances of making it to the end in the first place. Eric was recognized as the biggest jury threat and only won one challenge at that point, so there’s a high chance he’d be vulnerable again for at least one of the next two evictions.
Daniele on the other hand, was the biggest physical threat of the season and wouldn’t take anyone but Dick to the end. Zach was backing himself into a corner by keeping her. If he evicted her, he clears the way for himself to win the remaining challenges, and he’d still have Dick in the game to take as a goat.
Now, it was Dick that won the final HoH, so with hindsight, you could say it didn’t matter what Zach did at five. Either the final HoH is still won by Dick, who evicts Zach for revenge, or it’s won by whoever took Daniele’s place in the final three, who evicts Zach so they can win against Dick.
Even with this hindsight, I still think Zach’s odds were better if he took out Daniele. He could still reconcile with Dick at four, saying “the jurors love Eric and Jameka. Hate me if you want, but I’m the only person here you might beat at the end”. I don’t think Dick’s very likely to keep Zach after he evicted his daughter, but it’s certainly more likely than Dick keeping Zach over his daughter. Also, Jameka is an emotional player, so if she makes F3 and wins HoH, she may take Zach to the end because he deserves it more than Dick. Even if Zach can’t beat her, he at least gets 2nd place now.
There’s also the final 7, where Eric won the Veto and had the chance to backdoor Dick or Daniele. I chose not to include it, as him being “America’s Player” resulted in production telling him he couldn’t use the Veto, so it’s not fair to criticize him for a choice that wasn’t his.
5. Frankie (BB16 F6)
Derrick. Cody and Caleb have just passed on an opportunity to backdoor Frankie. Caleb let the cat out of the bag by telling Frankie they were considering it. Julie announced today would be a double eviction. Derrick won HoH and put up Christine and Victoria. Frankie won the Veto, not only squashing any further backdoor attempts, but also giving him a chance to retaliate, as Derrick would be forced to put up Cody or Caleb if the Veto were used. Frankie passed, Christine was evicted and Frankie was next.
Frankie was going to F5 as the best physical player, the biggest jury threat (besides maybe Derrick), and the house target. His best approach is to take out the next best physical threats to ensure his own chances of winning his way to the end. I don’t even need hindsight to say this, as he knew he was almost backdoored last round. Derrick would’ve probably put up Caleb, but it doesn’t even matter. Both Caleb and Cody were needed to make Frankie vulnerable, so taking out either of them would suffice.
The biggest argument against making this move is that, even though the guys considered backdooring him, they ultimately chose to keep him. This gives Frankie some reason to think they’d still keep him if he’s vulnerable again. If he tries to make a move and it fails, he makes himself even more of a target and eliminates any safety net he may have had if he loses a challenge.
If he attempts this move, Caleb and Cody would each vote to keep the other, and Victoria is basically just an extra vote for Derrick. This means he’d need to rope in Christine. She’s had an uneasy relationship with Frankie, but I think he could repair that by saving her from eviction. She also must know she’s on the bottom, so I think she would work with him this round to disrupt the power structure, which is all that Frankie needs from her.
There’s also F5 where Frankie again could’ve backdoored Caleb or Cody and didn’t. If he made the move, it would’ve backfired due to the reset button. Even though Frankie didn’t know specifically about the reset, he did know there’d be some sort of twist, so playing cautiously was a good call.
While I’m on the topic of the reset button… It did screw Frankie over, but it didn’t kill his game. It just made it more difficult by adding one more week where he needed to win safety. Everything I said about the double eviction is equally true with or without the reset button.
4. Michael (BB24 F7)
The “Leftovers” are pretty much dissolved. Michael was the biggest physical threat, and had just become a bigger target due to his and Brittany’s handling of the Kyle situation. He kept himself safe by winning HoH. He put up Terrence and Alyssa, as they were the picks that would create the least waves. He gunned for the Veto, stating that he was well past throwing comps to manage his threat level, and won it for an unprecedented sixth time.
Brittany, the only player looking out for Michael, pushed for him to backdoor Turner or Monte. Michael ignored these pleas, kept noms the same, and Terrence was evicted. Michael left minutes later when Monte and Turner backdoored him at the double eviction.
Michael’s reasoning was that he wanted to take out the smaller threats and keep the bigger targets as shields, but nobody comes even close to being a shield for Michael. Like Frankie, he was at a point where winning his way to the end was not only feasible, but necessary, so his best course of action is to take out the other physical threats to make that easier. I don’t think I’m relying on hindsight, as Michael said himself that he’s well past threat management.
He didn’t want to evict Turner because he didn’t want to punish him for putting his game aside for a bigger issue during the Kyle situation. Fair enough, but he still could’ve taken out Monte. You could say I’m relying on hindsight here, as Monte only won one challenge so far and went on his winning streak after this week. Again though, I don’t think I am, as Michael said during his first HoH that he sees Monte as the type of player who starts sweeping competitions during the endgame.
3. Jessica (BB19 F13)
Jessica was on the bottom, but her luck turned around when Cody re-entered the game and she won HoH. She wanted Josh out, but she also wanted to cause as few waves as possible, so she put up Ramses as a pawn. This was a mistake as Paul already wanted Ramses out and so had no motivation to let Josh go. Jessica earned a chance to correct her mistake when she won the Veto. Ramses suspected the vote would be flipped on him and shared these concerns with Jessica, but she chose to keep nominations the same. Ramses was evicted 7-3 and Jessica was the next out.
This is a clear case of overcorrection. Jessica was put on the bottom due to Cody attempting a big move and failing, so she tried to compensate by making nominations that would keep everyone happy. The problem is, when you put up a pawn without any connections, you need to have a lot of connections yourself if you want the house to keep them. Jessica didn’t and she knew it.
If she saved Ramses and replaced him with Alex, she would have ensured Josh goes home or at the very least put Paul in a position where they’d need to make sacrifices to keep him. She’d also secure Ramses as a number, which in addition to Mark and Elena, means she’d enter the F12 with a five person alliance and her Halting Hex. This is a much more solid position than where Jessica actually ended up, especially when you consider that Josh won the next “proper” HoH, and without him, it’d have gone to a tiebreaker between Cody and Christmas. I’m not going to hold the last part against her, as I’m relying on knowledge of future challenges, but everything else I said still stands.
2. Jason (BB19 F8)
Paul’s minions had just wiped out all the outsiders and now just had to sit patiently and wait for Paul to tell them in what order to evict themselves. Jason should have been the next out, but unknowingly stopped Paul’s plans by winning HoH.
Matt was the new target. The plan was to nominate him and Raven, tell them Kevin was the target, use the Veto on Raven, and put up Kevin to keep the week going smoothly. Jason won the Veto, but he got paranoid that Kevin really was the target. He kept nominations the same, guaranteeing that either Matt or Raven would go home. Matt was still the target, but he and Raven spent the rest of the week putting as much negative attention on Jason as they could.
This move didn’t ultimately matter, as Jason would’ve been the next out regardless, but Jason didn’t know that. He thought he, Alex, and Paul were the core three running the house, in which case, Jason is burning through a lot of social capital to protect someone who doesn’t really have much to offer him. If he’s really adamant about keeping Kevin off the block, he could have still used the Veto on Raven and put up Josh or Christmas, claiming they’re the new target. It still would have annoyed everyone, but to a lesser extent.
Even with the knowledge that he was on the bottom, this was still the worst move he could have made. If he went along with the plan, he’d preserve some good will, which might take the target off of him next week. If he was already willing to go against the house, he might as well have gone all the way and tried to backdoor Paul. That move is highly unlikely to work, but would shift momentum in his favor on the off chance it did.
Even though Paul wanted the Veto to be used, they ironically benefited from it not being used. It increased Jason’s target size, which made it that much easier for Paul to form a house consensus against him. It also gave Paul deniability. If Matt were sitting next to Kevin, Paul would have to justify and/or hide their part in evicting Matt to keep Raven on their side. Now, Matt was actively trying to get evicted so Raven would be safe, meaning Paul could just vote how they wanted and basically take the rest of the week off.
1. Marcellus (BB3 F5)
Jason was HoH and put up Marcellus and Amy. It was announced that this week’s Veto would be the first ever Golden Veto, meaning that now nominees could save themselves instead of relying on someone else to save them. Marcellus won the Veto, Danielle convinced him he would be safe no matter what, so he decided not to use it, only to be evicted by Jason in a tiebreaker vote, as he said “You should’ve used the Veto”
With every other entry, I’ve had to rely on some level of speculation and/or hindsight to explain why the Veto should’ve been used. This time, I don’t have to. If you don’t use the Veto, you might make final four. If you use the Veto, you’re guaranteed final four. End of discussion.
The only defense I can make is that it was extremely early in the show’s history and he was tricked by one of the show’s greatest players. Neither of these defenses hold much weight to me though, as Marcellus acknowledged that using the Veto is the obvious move while he was announcing he wouldn’t use it.
Marcellus said that he would’ve felt selfish if he used the Veto and that he didn’t want Danielle or Lisa to go through what he went through. If you want to make a suboptimal move for the sake of altruism, fine, but you should realize that doing so could result in you losing the game (that’s kind of the part that makes it selfless). Marcellus didn’t, as he didn’t even pack in preparation of being evicted.

2023.06.05 02:14 No_Mousse_8183 I want to share my favorite fan fics with you!
I've been reading SSHG fan fics since young. I probably started when I was about 14 or 15, back in the mid-2000s. (Gosh it doesn't make me feel any younger!)
When I started, I read in French because it's my first language. I only knew enough English to comfortably read stories in that language when I was about 18. I was shocked when I saw that Severus' last name was not the same in the original language as in the French translation. I grew up with Severus Rogue, and it took me a while to adjust to Severus Snape! But learning English opened doors to me for a bigger variety of contents, and I'm now more comfortable with Snape than Rogue. Afterall, Severus is English, not French!
So here is a list of fan fics I've enjoyed throughout the years, in no particular order!
- Unfinished Business - by Ramoshttps://www.fanfiction.net/s/2230284/1/Unfinished-Business13 chapters. Something goes wrong during potion class and Hermione dies. She comes back as a ghost and haunts the classroom, so Severus is stuck with her. They grow attached to each other overtime. I read this one soooo long ago. It's really bittersweet. I read it translated in French back then. I plan to re-read it in English sometimes soon!
- The Professor's Discretion - by Twelve Years in Azkabanhttps://www.fanfiction.net/s/5441799/1/The-Professor-s-Discretion22 chapters. Hermione and Severus work together in secret to help Harry in his quest against Voldemort. Slow burn and no direct romance. Despite the lack of direct romance, I absolutely loved it. It's worth it! I plan to re-read it soon.
- Not Only a Granger - by FerPotterhttps://www.fanfiction.net/s/2542183/1/Not-Only-a-Granger37 chapters. Warning : mature scenes. Hermione is a single mother and her son will soon start Hogwarts. She's reluctant to let him go to Hogwarts at first, because Severus still works there. See, Severus is Nathan's father and only she knows about it. I read this fic in French a long time ago and I still remember clearly a lot of the key scenes!
- What if - by Schnurblehttps://archiveofourown.org/works/27590243/chapters/674928446 chapters. Warning : non-con is implied. Severus accidentally makes a wish to a Leprechaun. The whole world changes around him and he wants it back the way it was. There is no romance between Hermione and Severus in this one, but I love their dynamic in the new universe.
- When a Lioness Fights - by Kayly Silverstormhttps://www.fanfiction.net/s/2162474/1/When-A-Lioness-Fights80 chapters. Warning : mature content. Hermione takes over Severus' position as spy despite his protest. He helps her adjust to it from Hogwarts since his spying status was revealed. It's a really long fic, that I read in French a long, long time ago. I was a teenager and loved it, I remember there was a lot of pain/angst/edgy themes. I think I didn't even finish it back then because it was in the process of being published and I got busy with my life or something. I honestly don't know if I'm brave enough to read 80 chapters today!
- The Underground - by chiwilacapybarahttps://www.fanfiction.net/s/14182105/1/The-UndergroundOne shot. Warning : mature content. It's been a few years and Voldemort is still around, terrorizing society. Hermione and Harry are still hiding in Grimmauld Place, Ron is dead. Then they capture Severus almost killing him, who reveals the truth about why he killed Dumbledore. Hermione and Harry takes care of him while he heals and something develops between Severus and Hermione. This is the most recent I've read and absolutely loved it. I especially liked the idea that Hermione and Severus saw hiding in Grimmauld place differently : Hermione feels imprisoned, while Severus feels freed.
That's about it for the fan fictions that left a strong impression on me over time. Some of them are old and yet, I still remember the scenes in my head!
I hope I'll have helped people discover fan fics they like!

2023.06.04 23:10 ryry29 Should I take the job or stay?
I know there’s a lot more details needed to make the decision but high level curious if you guys would take the new job or stay put? I know I am very lucky to be in this position and this has been over 15 years of hard work in the making:
Personal Info
Age: 37
Single income family of 5 (younger kids)
Net Worth: around $500k
Current Job
Service time: 7 years
Role: VP of Sales
Base: $185k/yr
Bonus: 75%-125% of base (capped)
Total: $325-$415k/yr
Equity: $5M-$12M (guess actual number will be in the middle)
Target Sale Year: 2027
*important note that company owned by family office
Pros: pretty low stress, strong job security, strong market, healthy financial support
Cons: lower salary for role, no push to sale by ownership (even by 2027), hitting base ceiling soon, few years out from possible C level opening, small enough I am in the day to day, capped comp % on growth annually
Job Offer
Role: Chief Strategy Officer
Base: $350k
Bonus: 50% of base at target achievement then uncapped
Total: $475-700k/yr
Equity: $1.5M-$2M
Target Sale Year: 2025
*later stage PE group with a solid exit strategy and ripe market outlook
Pros: shorter sale timeline, c level role, hyper focused M&A area, stronger base salary, uncapped comp % on growth annually
Cons: more corporate politics, low man on the pole if times get tough, 100% remote role (new jobs I prefer office to build internal relationships), maybe grass is not greener.
My biggest issue with current role is that who knows if they will sale even by 2027 so am I chasing a carrot I won’t catch? This company is preparing for sale soon so basically I come in help push it to the finish line within 2 years and cash $2M. At that point I could stay on possibly for another 5 year term with closer to the equity I gave up with current company or take some time off or something slower paced since I would be close to my retirement target.
I have some issues with my current company president but nothing that is just ripping at me…..FWIW with the additional salary at the new role nothing would change in my life so it would all go to investments or paying off my house (which I could do by the time we sold in 2025).
Would you stay and wait it out for the larger equity payout or take the title, higher annual comp, and smaller but faster equity payout?

2023.06.04 16:13 Creepy_Cobblar_Gooba Take this for what it is worth, message me if you want.
I am hoping mods keep this up, if they do not..well ok.
I am a college student who has been fortunate enough to make a lot of money while doing it, as well as use the GI Bill and get lucky with some work options. Compared to your average 32 year old, even out of school, I have a lot of money.
This post most likely will catch some flak by many here, there are a lot of people in this sub who spend their day looking to rip on anyone because they have to find some way to gain back control of their lives (somewhere) because they obviously have no control over their work.
I would like to offer four short tips that I have found to be useful. Please bear in mind that it is hard to make use of them sometimes, hell even for me as I would rather leave my current employer but due to the economy and other factors, I will be staying post graduation to sort out my next moves.
- Read Machiavelli, ALL OF HIS WORKS.
-N.M was a brilliant human being, and gets a bad rap from many. Most likely due to the inability for most to comprehend the work as it is very dense, but disguised in the words of flattery toward those who he wished to curtail favor. Ignore the Youtube producers for the most part, read not only Principalities, but Business Lessons by N.M, Understanding N.M, the Art of Politics and War, The Mandrake, etc. Understand how he lived, what he learned, and how to apply it. Life is not fair, and its time for you to make it fair in your favor.
- Negotiating power is key.
-Some of us have it, others do not. Some of us think we have it and we do not (I found this out last year a bit), and some of us have it and do not realize it. Understand what it is and how to use it. Prompt 1 will help, but what will also help is taking a weekend to dive into the psychology and philosophy of negotiations. I have no off the top sources for this, but if you follow 1, and understand it, 2 will follow.
- Move in silence.
-Understand from 1 and 2 that 3 follows, try to slowly deconstruct your online presence, the less people know about your true feelings (from 1 and 2), then the easier 3 becomes. The bigger your footprint in areas that could cause trouble, the more problems arise. You never know who is in a thread.
- Trim the fat, find a way to increase employability, and force it to your favor.
-Figure out that plan, trim the fat, be prepared to move continents (literally for me) to find it. Take only what you need and understand that the suffering to get there is worth it. Use the anger you feel in your current situation to drive your success. Anger can be amazing fuel if you channel it through a torche to which you can carve a masterpiece.
5* And edit
I found this out again, after being a soldier for years. Many know this, but if you do not
YOUR EMPLOYER IS NOT YOUR FRIEND
You can be friendly with them, you can love them as a friend (I suggest not) but they are YOUR EMPLOYER.
This is why in the infantry more often then not, when you get promoted, you are moved units or platoons. Because friendship can cause drama. Not always, but it can
Here is a personal anecdote: I was given a 1 percent increase after my company made net (if you do not know, this is take home profit) 66 million dollars. AFTER EVERYONE WAS PAID, I did not even get a dollar raise. My direct boss and I have a great relationship, but there was nothing she could do. She was very excited to give me the raise, of course, she needs to be. I did earn a raise of course, perfect marks for 12 months in a row in all categories (soldier in me, good at following orders and not bitching ever).
I was upset for a week or two, then it clicked *no shit dumbass, she is great and so are you, but she is bound by HR, which is bound by accounting, which is bound by the CFO. THIS IS BUSINESS, lesson learned for me.
I still like my boss, we joke and laugh, but work is work, and I learned I cannot put the same effort in here as I did in the military fighting in trenches of Iraq.
Hope some of this helps. If you want financial advice message me, I am by no means qualified (BIG BOLD PRINT HERE) but I can do my best to offer help in anyway I can
