2023.06.02 00:43 carmichael561 How the Fed Will Make Bank Transfers Truly Instant

How the Fed Will Make Bank Transfers Truly Instant
While many countries now offer bank payments in the blink of an eye, moving funds between accounts in the US can still take days. Electronic platforms such as PayPal Holdings Inc.’s Venmo and Block Inc.’s Cash App offer various workarounds to speed up the process, but they are essentially intermediaries that interface with the slow banking system. Now the Federal Reserve has created a high-speed transportation lane that allows for bank transfers within seconds. Here’s what you need to know about the new service, FedNow, which launches in July.
  1. Why are US bank payments so slow? Transfers using the Automated Clearing House — the legacy system invented in the 1970s — can take days to complete, partly because it lumps transactions together and processes them at specific intervals. Newer instant-payment tools like Venmo are fine when you’re doing something like buying a hot dog or sending cash to a friend who uses the same app. But when you want to pull money back off those platforms, the funds grind their way through the legacy banking system before they show up in your account. The same thing happens when you receive a paycheck or pay a utility bill. A survey by American Banker in 2021 found that 21% of consumers had abandoned a financial transaction or account opening because it took too long. The current slow transfers often lead to late fees for missed bill payments or penalties for overdrafts. So for the millions of Americans who live paycheck to paycheck, the delays can be costly.
  2. Why can’t banks solve the problem themselves? All the income from those overdraft and other fees meant banks had little incentive to come up with a faster solution on their own. A bank can also temporarily sweep transfer funds held overnight into short-term securities to earn a yield. US banks have the right to hold your money for as long as 10 days for the purpose of making sure it is not the proceeds of a crime. A group of big US banks did come up with a rapid-settlement platform of their own, known as real-time payments, or RTP, but have marketed it mainly to business customers because they already offer a peer-to-peer system called Zelle for consumers. While this is sold to consumers as a real-time transfer service, in some instances the transfers are settled over the legacy batch system and the banks in effect extend short-term credit until those payments settle.
  3. How will FedNow work? FedNow will offer instantaneous payments from one bank account to another 24/7, all year round. Because payment occurs instantly, customers will know right away if the transfer has completed or failed. The person receiving the funds will be able to use them almost instantly. The flip side is that, unlike a check, you can’t put a hold on a FedNow payment or cancel it. Once you’ve made that payment, the money is gone for good. And unlike a credit card, there are no rewards, points or fraud protection.
  4. What are the fees for using FedNow? Payments will cost a few cents, but it’s not clear who will pick up the tab — the bank or the customer. With ACH, it’s often the bank that pays the fees unless the customer is making a large number of payments.
  5. How can I sign up for FedNow? You can’t, as there won’t be a FedNow consumer app. First your bank will need to sign up to use the system and plug it into the back end of its own banking website or app.
  6. Will this kill providers like Venmo or Cash App? That’s certainly not the goal: The Fed has always said consumers are best served by a competitive payments landscape with multiple players. FedNow will both complement and compete with existing electronic payment systems. Almost 10,000 US banks and credit unions will be able to join and use FedNow, giving the country’s patchwork of regional lenders and credit unions a better chance of vying for payments business against giant banks and financial technology firms.
  7. Is the US leading the way here? Europe’s Single Euro Payments Area already allows instant payments across 36 countries, while the UK introduced instant payments in 2008. One limitation of FedNow is that it doesn’t allow for “pull” transactions in which utilities, phone companies or other service providers can trigger a payment from a customer account on an agreed date, a capability that makes it easier for those businesses to manage their cash flow.
  8. How soon will my bank offer FedNow? Fed officials expect the adoption to be slow and gradual, and it could be many months before FedNow shows up on a bank’s website or app. While there were just over 100 banks in a FedNow pilot program, there’s no obligation to use the service and it’s not known how many will choose to do so.
  9. Will FedNow invade my privacy? Since this will be a bank-operated system, the same privacy infrastructure that exists around other payment systems will apply. Like it or not, your basic information is all over your non-cash payments, from your credit cards to your bank checks, which have a lot of information about you written right on them. If you want more privacy, stick with dollar bills.
  10. Is FedNow a step toward a digital currency? Various commentators on social media have suggested FedNow is a scheme to phase out physical cash or part of a plan to introduce an official, government-backed digital currency to replace the dollar. (Some politicians, including long-shot Democratic presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr., have seized on some of those talking points, while Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has railed against the idea of a central bank digital currency in the US.) The Fed denies this, saying the new payments service will simply be a faster way to move deposits and that it will continue to provide notes and coins for those who still want to use cash. The people most responsible for the declining use of hard currency are consumers themselves. Commercial payments in cash dropped to about 20% in the pandemic year of 2020 from 30% in 2017.

2023.06.02 00:41 Tardyninja10 Concerned about Heat

Not necessarily of my components by the room i use my pc in. Currently I have a Thermaltake V21 i have had it for what a long time.
My current components are: i5-13600k, 3080ti founders, 1000w corsair atx psu.
My problem attached to my bedroom there is a small roughly 5ft by 4ft space with my desk and pc my room isnt massive but it isnt small either. When playing games for an hour or so it get unbearably HOT, AC in the house rarely helps a fan does but i use open back headphones when playing i have resorted to playing mostly at night so i can open my window to let some of the heat out.
I know changing form factor will not change how much heat is produced but should i switch to an AIO i was hoping to use a Meshroom S, maybe put it on a shelf over my desk so i feel. the heat a little less (currently under my desk). I prefer air coolers by a large margin but it makes it difficult to enjoy games so if i must i will strongly consider an AIO
thoughts?

2023.06.02 00:34 xtremexavier15 TSWT 26 (pt 2)

The episode resumed with a shot of the Final Two holding the effigies their helpers had made as Chef wheeled the person formerly in a hazmat suit in a wheelchair, their suit traded in for a full body cast.
Izzy spoke up. "Are we actually going to throw our dummies into an active volcano without any safety? That sounds lethal, even for me."
"As the saying goes, 'No excruciating pain, no million dollar gain'," Chris told her, pulling out a briefcase as a reminder then promptly tossing it away. "To help you get those dummies to the top of the volcano, you can use the rewards your teams earned on your behalf in the Aftermath Lava Surfing challenge," he continued.
"Ezekiel won a wheelbarrow. Too bad he's out," he said, the camera panning the host at the base of the volcano as the wheelbarrow rolled down next to the host, "but Alejandro gets a baby stroller," the stroller rolled down next to the wheelbarrow, "and Izzy gets diddly squat."
"What?" Mal gaped.
"Mal," Chris said, "for winning the effigy challenge, you get a twenty-second head start. So, get going!"
"Toodles," Mal said, running off with the wooden statue in his arms.
"At least this dummy's light," Izzy said, carrying it in her arms.
Mal tossed his dummy into his baby stroller as soon as he came to Chris, then ran up the slope chuckling as it did not break.
Chris watched him go with his usual smile, then turned to watch Izzy as she walked up. "Shouldn't I have the wheelbarrow if Ezekiel's not competing?" Izzy said.
"Sure, why not?" Chris said, watching Izzy put her dummy in her wheelbarrow and push it up the hill.
\
The scene cut to Mal running up the mountainside path at a decent rate. "It's been a long ride," he told himself, "but I'm going to claim the prize and live life comfortably!"
\
The camera panned down to Izzy, still pushing her effigy up the slope and panting heavily. "Why am I getting tired now of all places?" she said to herself.
"Having trouble?" Mal called out mockingly. "Maybe if you continue to run like a freak of nature, you might get to the top in time to see me win the money. But I doubt it!" he laughed, running off again.
The path soon leveled off, he passed a few bushes, then saw what was ahead and frantically skidded to a halt. He stopped right on the edge of a bubbling lava pool. "What the inferno?" he asked, the camera getting an overhead shot of the lava right before it flared up, forcing Mal to dive away with his rather flammable dummy.
Chris chuckled off-screen, and the camera zoomed out to show him and Chef standing on the other side of the lava lake. "Yoo hoo, over he~ere!" he called in a light and airy voice, waving to the malice filled man. A series of stepping stones spanned the gap between the two sides, but hanging over it from a large wooden frame were several heavy objects: from the left to right were a log, a grand piano, a safe, a simple weight, a purple armchair, a metal cage, and a bomb. The ropes holding the objects in the air ran along the framework and down to a structure near Chris and Chef, where each individual rope was tied around a long log.
"Check out the look on his face," Chris told his assistant as the camera zoomed in on them and the two men high-fived.
Izzy finally arrived at the other end of the lava pool, stopping when she saw it. "Now what?" she said in awed disbelief.
"The only way to the top of the volcano," Chris said as the camera panned across a close-up of the stepping stones, "is past this river of lava," he pointed down at the bubbling rock as the camera reached him again. "Those rewards probably won't be too helpful," he added, Mal and Izzy frowning as they stood by with their respective dummies.
"All you have to do is hop across these stepping stones," the host continued, moving over closer to the end of the path. "Easy-peasy, hot and cheesy!" he said as the lava flared up again. "Buu~uut," he added impishly as the camera panned across the hanging objects, "we've rigged a few booby traps to, that's right!"
"Make things more interesting," the two finished in annoyance.
"Chef," Chris turned to his assistant, "a booby demo, if you please!"
Chef took out a machete then turned around and chopped the first rope. The freed end quickly slid back through the wooden frame, and the log dropped onto the first stepping stone, broke, and fell into the lava with a burst of flame and a splatter of molten rock. Izzy raised an eyebrow and Mal gasped in surprise.
"Yeah, you really don't want to get hit by those," Chris told them. "Your helpers can either keep them secure," he continued, turning around and motioning to the two pairs that were standing by the tied-up ropes, "or send them falling. It's your call. Aaaand, go!"
Mal got moving first, picking up his dummy out of the stroller and running from stone to stone. Izzy lagged behind, but she still kept up.
"Chop the ropes! Now!" Mal commanded, and the shot cut over to Noah, Eva, Sky, and Shawn on the far side of the river.
"Team E-Scope, don't let them win!" Izzy cried out.
"Hold on!" Sky stopped everyone. "I don't want to fight anyone, or help out Mal."
"Me too," Shawn agreed. "I'm just here because I have too."
"I said cut the ropes!" Mal shouted forcefully.
"You two are right. Let's leave them at each other's throats," Noah said.
"Or better yet, we sabotage Mal," Eva offered.
"I'm already ahead of you!" Shawn grinned and grabbed a machete. He chopped down the rope holding the couch, and Mal took notice and jumped onto the next stone.
"Don't even think about messing with me!" Mal growled.
"Can't hear you!" Shawn mocked him as he cut a series of ropes. A bank vault, piano, and cage all fell down, but Mal effortlessly avoided all of them and eventually made it to the end.
"How were you able to avoid all of those?" Noah wondered. "That cage should've contained you."
"Mike's personalities can come in handy. I'll be taking my leave now," Mal laughed and made his way to the volcano.
Izzy reached the four helpers. "Welp, that was a bust," she griped.
"Don't just stand around complaining," Eva said. "Go to the volcano."
"And what about you guys?" Izzy asked.
"We'll catch up with you two with the helicopter Chris drove us here in," Sky added.
Izzy's face turned into determination. "Here I go! Time to stop the biggest, most baddest villain in TD history!" She let out a battlecry and dashed hastily towards the volcano.
\
The scene changed to a long-distance upward shot of the volcano, soon cutting to the top as the camera panned across the non-competitors, gathered in a sweaty and sweltering mass on the rim of the volcano's crater.
An upward pan of Chris holding the million-dollar suitcase revealed him standing happily in a cool breeze, the shot zooming out to show it being caused by a giant electric fan blowing air over a large ice cube being held on an intern's back. Several more ice cubes were stacked around the area, and were already beginning to melt.
"So...," Chris said to Chef, the pilot standing beside him, "know of any season three wrap parties?"
Chef didn't answer, and instead averted his gaze and walked away whistling in a very suspicious manner.
Chris frowned at him, but his expression quickly changed to excitement as he looked out over the edge of the volcano. "And here they come!" he announced as Mal was shown racing up the path with his dummy.
The shot cut to the edge of the crater as the dummy was thrown up first, followed by the villain leaping up with a dark smile on his face. He caught the dummy and grinned even more.
"Looking for this?" Chris asked as the shot cut to the million dollar case.
Mal let out a dry chuckle as he made his way to the edge of the crater.
"Stop right there!" Izzy's voice said, causing him to pause and turn around mid-way.
"Izzy," Mal said as the camera cut to the girl at the roof of the crater next to her dummy. "Can't you see I'm about to beat you? Just spare us the trouble and let me win!"
"If there's anyone who deserves to be competing against me, it should be Mike!" Izzy argued back.
"Mike is nothing to me!" Mal shouted furiously. "He should be the one left behind, not me!" That was when he inhaled sharply as his head got closer to the camera.
\
Suddenly, Mal began falling and landing in the pink grounds of Mike's brain.
"Urgh." Mal grunted before his eyes widened and he saw that his tower was practically rubble at this point. "Impossible. Where's my tower?" Mal asked furiously.
"It's gone Mal. It's gone for good," Mike smirked victoriously as he entered, much to Mal's anger.
"How were you able to push that button? I had that reinforced so your puny arms could not penetrate it," Mal asked angrily.
"I'm not half as weak as you think I am. It's time to end this," Mike glared at the evil alter who smirked fiendishly.
"Very well," Mal said with sadistic glee, "This should only take ten seconds." Soon, Mal and Mike charged at each other fiercely and began punching and kicking each other with so much ferocity.
\
Meanwhile, at the top of the volcano, Mike and Mal were having such a gigantic fight that Mike's body was thrashing itself violently much to everyone's horror.
"What is he doing?!" Owen asked in concern.
Heather stood in front of Cody protectively.
"Surrender already, you peon!" Mal grunted angrily as Mike's body continued to thrash violently.
"N-never!" Mike said confidently as he continued to claw at himself.
Noah gasped at the scene. "Mike's fighting Mal for control of his body!" Noah realized.
\
Inside Mike's mind, Mal tackled Mike down as the latter struggled to get himself off of the evil alter.
"Look at you, so pitiful and pathetic!" Mal hissed viciously, "You were a fool to challenge me. It's not like your friends will ever forgive you for this. How will they see you now that they know I exist?"
Mike seemed to be in thought about Mal's words but chose not to let them get to him. "I won't let you win this!" Mike raised his foot to kick Mal in the kiwis, causing Mal to release him from his hold out of instinct.
Mike pushed Mal back and began punching him, trying to keep him down but Mal did not look like he was giving in.
\
Back at the top of the volcano, everyone was anxiously watching the fight unfold.
"What are we gonna do?!" Sadie said in horror.
Sky seemed to be in deep thought before smiling. "We have to rally Mike on! Show him that he's not alone in this!"
"I'm on it," Shawn nodded before speaking up. "Mike! It's me, Shawn! I just want to let you know that no one is mad at you about Mal's actions!"
"All of us are logical enough to separate Mal from Mike. It's just common sense!" Noah smiled encouragingly.
"We're all rooting for you to kick Mal's butt!" Eva added happily.
"We know you can do it," Ella encouraged.
"Mike! I just want you to know that you're my best friend and I can't imagine life without you! I know it may seem rough in there but please, we all have your back!" Sky said encouragingly.
\
Back in his mind, Mike smiled warmly as he heard this and Mal got up, all tattered and beaten. "Those nobodies… are idiots. I'm a part of you and they WILL see that!" Mal cried out in fury.
"You're wrong Mal! You may be a part of my mind, but everything you ever did was all you and no one else!" Mike spoke in determination.
"You always wanted me to rely on you. To make yourself feel important. That desire turned you bitter and hateful and led you to who you are today. You wanted me to feel scared and feel I needed you to be tough, but guess what? I have friends up there. Friends who have stuck by my side even when they learned my disorder before I could properly confess, friends who stuck by me even if they voted me off in season one for the others' behavior, and friends who still stay beside me despite everything you ever did to me!"
Mike's body began glowing white, and for the first time in Mal's life, he felt genuine fear in his eyes. "No… you can't do this to me. No one will ever cross you with me in charge," Mal pleaded desperately, "I'm a part of you."
Mike just narrowed his eyes. "That's true. I can't get rid of you, but I can seal you enough to where you can never cause this much trouble EVER AGAIN!"
Soon, Mike used his hands to shoot a powerful white blast which Mal tried to resist but in the end, it was hopeless and he was blasted into the deepest corners of Mike's mind.
"IT'S MY TIME!!!! MMMMIIIINNNNNEEEEEEE!" Mal cried out in horror as his voice faded into the distance.
Back at the volcano, Mike opened his eyes and grabbed his head. "Wh-Where am I?"
"Mike! He's back!" Ezekiel cried out happily before Topher stopped Ezekiel from going to help him up.
"Wait, this could be a trap," Topher said sternly.
"Let me try something," Duncan told the group before whistling 'In the Hall of the Mountain King,' and all he got was a blank stare from Mike.
"It's really me guys. I swear," Mike smiled encouragingly.
"Mike! You're back!" Sky cried out as she embraced the comedian, to which Shawn, Noah, Dawn, Ella, Sadie, Lindsay, and Cody were all quick to join in.
"Guys, I am so sorry about everything Mal did," Mike apologized profusely. "I should have told you all about him after last season, but I thought he was no longer a problem and-"
"It's okay. We know you never meant for this to happen," Shawn smiled at his friend.
"I promise. I won't forget to let you all know about my problems," Mike pledged.
"Great to have you back," Chris said with an unamused look on his face, "but can one of you toss your sacrifice in the volcano already?"
"The one next to you," Topher told Mike as Izzy dragged her dummy. "If you toss it in the lava before Izzy does, then you win the million dollars."
Mike and Izzy locked eyes, then he grabbed his dummy and both ran as fast as they could to the edge of the volcano.
Quickly forming a plan, Izzy slid to a stop and hurled her dummy. It flew through the sky like a bullet, and moments later, it soared into the lava unceremoniously, and aside from a small splash-back that the Peanut Gallery quickly dodged, nothing happened.
"Oh yes!!!" Izzy boomed. "I won! I won! I won!" she cheered, jumping up and down in glee.
"And that's a cool million for Izzy," Chris told the audience. "The winner of Total Drama World Tour!" The contestants all applauded and cheered for the winner.
"Way to go, Izzy!" Owen cheered out loud.
"Nice job, eh!" Ezekiel clapped his hands.
Chris opened up the briefcase for Izzy, who marveled at the dollar bills inside. "It's so beautiful!" she exclaimed as she took the briefcase and hugged it tightly.
"You worked hard for the money, Izzy," Mike said as he walked over to congratulate her. "I'm just glad to be back in control again."
"You're welcome, and stay you, Mike," Izzy shook hands with Mike.
"Ohh, you didn't throw any pineapples in the volcano, did you?" an unfamiliar voice asked, the camera panning right a little ways just as two elderly Hawaiian men in flowery skirts and leis walked up.
"There are signs everywhere!" the other said.
The camera cut to the Peanut Gallery all stepping away to show several signs with crossed-out pineapples on them.
"Oh yeah," Chris said blankly. "They really ruined the shot, so we put the human wall there."
A third old Hawaiian man came over to reveal another sign. "Don't you know what happens when pineapples meet lava?"
It was then that the volcano shook and rumbled, a long-distance shot of it showing a few reddish streaks forming along the outer edge of the crater.
"Uh-oh," Chris said, gaining the camera's attention as the volcano was shaking, "Didn't see that one coming. Anywho," he chuckled before taking a deep breath and yelling "RRRUUUUNNNNNN!"
The volcano was shown from a distance again, the smoke billowing from the top turning into a full-blown eruption of fire.
Back at the top, the three Hawaiian men went running back towards the path down, followed by Chris, Izzy, Mike, and the rest of the contestants as lava began to cover the screen.
It parted as the scene cut to the base of the volcano, the former contestants running and screaming across the beach as flaming rocks rained down from above and the lava took over the screen again.
"See you next season I guess," Chris said as the camera cut to him as fire continued to fall. "Maybe with a whole new cast, 'cause let's face it – these guys are probably gonna melt," he laughed.
"Until next time," the host said, his voiced strained as the scene cut to him standing up in front of the sky. "I'm Chris McLean, and this has been Total! Drama!" The camera zoomed out to reveal that him and Chef were now aboard the old Boat of Losers, but the host's outtro was interrupted by a sudden object. Both men looked up, and one of the rocks, entirely on fire, was shown rocketing towards the boat.
Chris and Chef ducked to either side as it landed, punching a hole in the ship with its crash. The Boat of Losers began to sink, and the rest of the cast treading water nearby laughed as the two adults went under.
Their mirth was short-lived, however, and quickly turned to terror and they swam away screaming as large flaming rocks started raining down upon them once again, and the footage cut to static.
(Roll the Credits)
\
(Bonus Clip)
The shot featured flaming rocks hitting the ocean and whatnot. The rocks caused some splashes, but they weren't big enough to fully cover the screen.
The camera panned to the right to show Ezekiel Clone on his raft. A big smile formed on his face as he drank his coconut and watched the lava explosion. Noticing the camera, he gave it a wave before it faded to black.

2023.06.02 00:31 ApocalypseTapir Everything Everywhere All At Once. How what's good about Mormonism isn't unique and what's unique about Mormonism isn't good.

Spoiler alerts for the movie.
First. There's no possible way this post is going to make sense. I recently saw the movie "Everything Everywhere All At Once". A movie that examines the meaning of life through googly eyes, giant dongs, and alternate timelines where we evolved hands with hot dogs instead of fingers. So we will see how this turns out.
Second. So many themes resonated with me. The biggest being how I often lament the choices and experiences taken from me by Mormonism. Generational trauma. The lack of communication between the characters. The nihilism that must be the result of any immortal godlike being knowing everything, and being everywhere all at once. How life in any alternate timeline would still be suffering because that's the nature of life, and that in essence, the way to survive that existence is to find your kink and enjoy the ride and just being kind to the other captive riders on this roller coaster. It's a frenetic movie with so many layers. So much truth there.
Third: Mormonism actually teaches, or rather, purports to teach many of the truths illustrated in the movie. Love, Kindness, finding joy despite the hardship, the importance of family/companionship/tribe, finding purpose. It seems the truths most beneficial to the most people are actually ubiquitous. We can find them all over the place. It's like they are immutable laws of the universe.
Fourth: It's the uniqueness of Mormonism that is the rot and danger. The patriarchy, the manipulation, the control. The temple that divides us, the shame used to control us. The mindless hamster wheel of effort used to fatigue us.
Fifth: Kindness isn't weakness, it's a strategy for survival.
If any of you have seen the film, i'd love a discussion.

2023.06.02 00:29 HappilyAHeathen Girlfriend deliberately let me think she was dead.

I mostly just need to vent about this. I'm a man in my late thirties. I spent the entirety of my twenties committed to one person and dated sporadically in my thirties with less than inspiring results.
Had been in a relationship with this girl for three or four months. She was about 8 years younger than me, worked part time as a barista and lived with her mother in a one bedroom apartment but she was incredibly sweet and enthusiastic and would do these sweet gestures like writing me letters about how excited she was to be with me and bringing lunch to me at work so I fell for her pretty hard and fast--dating in my thirties has generally been a pretty disappointing affair, with most women treating me like some kind of consolation settlement for not getting what they really wanted, so spending time with someone who seemed genuinely enthusiastic about me was.... like a drug.
After about four months or so she wanted to meet my family who I'm not on great terms with but I settled and took her to my brother and sister-in-law's place. While she was there, they let slip that I live... uncomfortably close to my mother--when the pandemic ended, my landlords hiked their rent beyond what I was willing to pay so I reached out to my mother's landlady who had what I needed but the catch was being essentially next door to her. I'm not on great terms with my mother so I spent the entire time living there trying to pretend her place wasn't a rock's throw away... therefore it never really occurred to me to mention it.
Anyway, when my girlfriend found out, she didn't handle it well and accused me of hiding things from her. I apologized and we had a very long talk about it and it seemed like things had gotten better for half a week or so. One morning she was leaving my place to go to a class and about five minutes after she left, my entire house began to shake--it turns out a tornado had torn through the area, ripped the roofs off of a number of businesses and residences--there was a car crushed under a tree all of about a block away from my home so when I got out to survey the damage I was immediately worried about her.
Texted her immediately and asked if she was okay but got no response. I work in tv so my entire day was occupied with covering the path of the storm and all of the damage it had caused in between trying to see if there was anyone who could safely check on her. By the end of what turned out to be a twelve hour day I was a shaking mess with still no response--and I wouldn't get one for another three days. It was nonchalant and completely unapologetic. After that response, I wouldn't hear from her for another week when I finally got upset.
She called and still didn't apologize, only giving me a lame excuse about not being in a good headspace but I was so happy to hear her voice for the first time since the tornado hit that I forgave her. For the next couple weeks we kept making plans with about a 75% chance of her cancelling at the last minute. During the last night we were together she found out that one of my best friends who she hadn't met yet (new mother, so not a lot of time for socializing) and I had dated very briefly about eight years before, proclaimed she was sick of the lies and stormed out of my home. She broke up with me via text and told me never to talk to her again.
In summary I guess this post is half complaining about ghosting and half me trying to figure normal people out... like I'm about 80% sure I'm some variety of on the spectrum but it wasn't really a thing that was tested regularly when I was younger and don't really care enough to bother now, so I guess I need to have normal brains explained to me sometimes. Should I move forward in life always ready to detail every bit of minutia about my life in explicit and immediate detail, such as exactly what proximity my mother's home is to mine and whether or not my best friend and I initially dated for a hot second before deciding we'd much rather be friends almost a decade ago?

2023.06.02 00:25 ZachInAction Tempe Town Lake fishing

After a successful Memorial Day weekend of trout fishing up north, I’ve reignited my fishing bug since moving here from NY 3 years ago.
I’ve heard Tempe Town Lake is as good a local spot of any for those of us who live downtown. I’ve been down there once for a non-fishing venture and saw a few rods set up under what I believe to remember was the Mill Avenue bridge. Are there any spots that are off-limits for fishing? Any spots you’d stay away from?
Planning on setting up my medium-light rod with a simple Carolina rig on garlic soaked hot dog and then throwing a jointed swimbait on my ultralight. If you have any advice there, also appreciated.
Thanks y’all!

2023.06.02 00:24 The_Liamster03 20 [M4F] Brighton, UK - I want to meet my soulmate and fall in love

This is going to be a long post but here I go anyway. My name is Liam, I have never been in a romantic relationship before. I literally have no love life whatsoever, I’ve tried Tinder but I hardly get any matches and I got rejected by my crush when I was 16 but that’s a story for another time. I’m quite desperate at this point and I’m really lonely. This will sound cliché but when I was younger I always imagined that I’d get married to a beautiful woman, have one or more children, go on holidays to different countries, own a nice car and live in a big house. Fast forward to today and that idyllic lifestyle is more of a dream that probably won’t ever come true. Life isn’t a stereotypical romcom as much as I wish it were true. I know I’m young and I might get lucky one day, no one knows what the future holds. Anyway moving on. I’ll be honest and say I’m not that good looking but I am mature for my age. To describe my appearance, I’m white, 5’5, average build, blue eyes and have black hair. I’ll be happy to share pictures in chat if anyone is curious. I’m very shy and introverted but I do try my best to have a conversation. I’ve been told I’m funny and nerdy but also have a nice personality as well. My star sign is Capricorn but that’s all I know about it. My favourite hobbies (if you could call them that) are playing video games, watching movies/tv shows and occasionally reading books. I’m a very big Star Wars fan and my favourite Netflix show is Wednesday. This might be embarrassing to admit but my celebrity crush is Jenna Ortega lol. My music taste is pretty much just anything mainstream but I like Lewis Capaldi. My favourite Pixar film is WALL-E. Call me lazy but I love to just chill and relax at home in my pyjamas. I’m a family oriented person and an animal lover with two cute dogs who I adore. I’m looking for a woman who will love me for who I am, to build a special bond with and to have a future together. As cringe as it sounds, I just someone to love me as much as I’d love them. I guess I’m a hopeless romantic lol. I don’t know if I should say this here but I do really want to have children one day but that would be something that would happen in the long term and I’m no rush anyway. I am a great uncle to my niece and nephews and fatherhood is something that appeals to me. I’d like someone who is close to my age but that wouldn’t be a deal breaker. I don’t want a long distance relationship as I can’t travel and I want someone who is not too far. I’m not bothered about appearances as personality means much more to me but my “type” would be a white, petite, hot, curvy woman with black or blonde hair and blue eyes. I want us to get to know each other first and then possibly meet up for a date. Hopefully we can “click” right away but I understand it might take time. Anyway I don’t want to keep on rambling so this goes out to any women out there, if you want to talk or ask me questions then feel free to DM me. I look forward to hearing from you all and thank you for reading my post

2023.06.02 00:18 Alfred-Stewart Homesick for Washington

Less than a year ago I moved from Western Washington to Florida (hell on earth) then to Massachusetts. Massachusetts is ok but it’s certainly not Washington, it’s so boring here and the nature is boring because literally 75% of New England was deforested. I don’t feel at home, it feels like an over extended vacation and I want to go home. It’s so hot and dry here in the summer and the bright oak trees are so soul-crushing. When I look at the horizon I want to cry, I used to see mighty snow-capped mountains, I used to see Mount Rainer high above the horizon from Seattle. Now all I see is hills with water towers here and there. I lived 30 min away from Snoqualmie Pass and would love driving under the shadow of great Mountains. The Appalachian “mountains” are a joke, glorified hills. I loved the big state feeling, Washington felt like a separate entity from the U.S., it felt like home, I felt like I was part of a community. I loved driving at night under the pine trees. I miss the lush forests and towering trees. I miss home, so much.

2023.06.02 00:12 EcstaCat My Puppy Keeps Biting Himself, Pls Help

Hi, I would firstly like to say I haven't been to a vet yet but I do plan on going. Anyways, when my puppy first came home he was RIDDLED with fleas & ticks. I gave him two really good baths with tick & flea shampoo & that helped. However, he would constantly bite/itch himself and I honestly thought it would've stopped by now because I'm aware that its a natural thing for dogs to do.
He's bigger now and I actually gave him another bath today not because he has fleas or ticks-- he doesn't-- but because he was smelling a bit. Its gotten worse-- his biting I mean. His tail is almost hairless, he has little scabs that are dried and some are still bleeding a bit. He has bite marks/red spots by his private area (not directly on the pp though but around his balls, inner legs, stomach + around anus) & I honestly have no idea what to do for him. I tried putting Vaseline to help the cuts heal faster (works like charm btw) but he keeps biting. Also there's fur missing/thinning on his legs (places where he bites).
But what was even more strange is that while I was drying him today, I noticed there were tiny red circular marks on his legs where he hasn't bitten/itched. I thought "Hm weird." Could this possibly be an allergy to the food we're giving him or an allergy in general? (Purina Puppy Chow) Or does he have a parasite? I highly doubt the second one though because I've been monitoring his poop & no sign of worms or parasites (as far as the naked eye can see in terms of the parasites). Or maybe an underlying skin condition? I tried researching but to my avail, I found nothing that really matched so I added photos here in hopes of someone seeing it & possibly knowing what it is. I can't take him to a vet right now because I'm 18 with no drivers license & I don't have the money as of right now. So please please if anyone knows what it is I'd really appreciate the feedback.

2023.06.02 00:06 whotfaresomeofyall slight irritancy with stuff i'm realizing

disclaimer: not caring about punctuation or anything, just need to word vomit.
----
I (22;F) need somebody to break it down for me. am i stupid? am i just mentally behind? is there something underlying that's wrong with me? am i uselessly paranoid?
context: i feel like ever since i got slightly more time for myself i'm really honing in on all my pitfalls. i mean i have a running gag with friends that sophomore year of highschool is where everything went "wrong". i say this because sophomore year i feel like i randomly gained consciously and got very very sad. i mean i carried about my classes with the rigor of an advanced program (won't specify b/c i'm that paranoid of being identified lol) but i would casually go to the bathroom freak out silently and cry, come back out and carry about my day. i also got picked up by the paramedics for a panic attack, i felt like i was insanely dumb and hated when stuff wouldn't click for me, realized i did not at all look like i was growing into people a young women because i built like a 10 year old boy yadayadayadayada.
in college i feel like i was present to some degree but then for some reason i REALLY clocked out after a specific semester. idk what happened but like i can't remember shit. now mind you it's def probs attributed to how i have a super bad sleep schedule. i did this weird thing where i would come home after being on campus from 9am to 6 or 7pm, then go straight to bed -- wake up by 1 or 2 am and that would be the "start" of my day bleeding into the next. idk how to describe it but i did it cause i'm just always exhausted but i know i needed to get shit done -- but generally if i try to get good sleep it just doesn't even work out my body hurts, i get bad nightmares or i just don't get solid sleep. days felt like shit was blending together didn't know when shit started or ended yadayadayada.
i also love laying around in my bed. i do it all the time throughout the day if possible because i personally prefer staying in my room. going out i always just have this wave of nausea that always hits me before i realize okay im just a baby its fine -- but note i am generally a boring person. i don't hold good interesting convo like my other friends do, im also an out of sight out of mind friend cause i just don't really wanna be texting or calling folks. i remember that irritated me a lot especially in college. i always had to be around people and would feel so overwhelmed, exhausted, anxious throughout the day because like i just wanna be a ghost goddammit, i don't wanna leave my room. but ik of course gotta be successful, gotta get that money, and gotta have the prestige associated with my name.
i always have little white lies i'm telling -- and tbh i don't think i know myself as a person at all now a days. i couldn't tell you what i actually like because if i did it's always circumstantial. or it's because i saw somebody else enjoy said thing so i "feel" like "oh yea i really like that too. i'm good at fabricating though my passions and shit but at the end of the day i be lying to some degree - i just need good prep time to paint myself in a good all natured light (now i say this im not like a bully shitting on people cause i mean i do have close friends -- i just feel its tough for me to make new friends cause all my close friends knew me when i was young and had maybe some potential in life outside of that people i meet are due to being forced around their presence. i enjoy some people i encounter but they aint particularly my friends or people i would actually keep up with like how other people maintain relationships).
when i have highs its when im being productive but then it's not really a high. it's like an autopilot where i don't have to think and i'm like ah yes this is good i feel like a useful smart woman haha -- but when i go low i go LoWWwwwww. don't think i have to dive too deep if you catch what im throwing.
i also like i maybe said in the beginning of this - i gave up remembering (which i never realized how bad at that shit i am??? again i don't really think about myself im just going about the days which i hate because this makes me difficult at doctors appointments because they ask me stuff and im like hmmm maybe i've felt like that? yea? maybe? sometimes? eh?) but i am shit at taking in info. like ive described from highschool -- people will say instructions direct to my face and in seconds in almost gone. now that i typed that last sentence ive always noticed it because i remember how i don't ask professors questions in class because theyll say words and AUTOMATICALLY my brain discards the words they say even before they say it, i cannot focus in on it lol. but i obviously can remember stuff to some degree or else i wouldn't be in college right? or remember random fragments of courage the cowardly dog episodes and shit. the focusing shit tho i wanna say affects my relationship with food to some degree. cause if im stressed anxious or wanna get something done - no way in hell im eating. and if i am i don't like eating too much in front of folks but then im also like DAMN eating is so much work! i wish i could just drink everything i need in a day cause thick smoothie supremacy. anyways - its lowkey messing with my work rn because i be making careless mistakes and kinda fucking with stuff and i dont mean it or if someone is trying to tell me to look at said thing im like uhhhhh what am i looking for like i feel so idiotic. i misplace my pens and sticky notes and i kinda just try to attempt to avoid folks at work but its a small building and its impossible. and its makes me paranoid. im get anxious so everytime i think of work i feel sick -- but time also makes me nervous so im like damn i gotta get to work. i also like money. damn
i think of life like one big assignment with many tasks i gotta do. (which i can organize myself to some degree that works for me as long i check over and repeat what im trying to organize 028302848023 times cause i do not trust myself and make dumb mistakes). but i feel as though im severely lacking in being an adult and these things are affecting me. and because i feel my brain is lowkey shit i don't even feel like im wording this the way i want, maybe ?? idk but hey. yea that's it that's where my brain stops for now. like im pretty sure these are normal feelings of course normal folks have but damn its annoying.

2023.06.02 00:02 Yousaidthat I.. don't think I'm the first one to wake up anymore...

Hi...
So. I don't really know how much time I have left -- but I'm hoping I can maybe find someone else who has experienced this before ... or maybe just warn others. Before this week, I'd never had any kind of mental health issues beyond the odd bout of anxiety or depression. No history of anything severe in the family either. This all just... came out of nowhere.

So on Tuesday morning, early -- like, before 7 or something, my partner woke me up with her usual morning routine. Shower, sink, etc. etc. Nothing out of the ordinary - Usually I have my roll around the bed in existential denial and then get up to brew us some coffee. Now, I obviously fit in my denial roll but when I tried to sit up... it happened.
My dog, a small little dachshund, started growling and snarling viciously. At the same moment... it was like I lost forward motor function in body. Everything gave out in my back and my head hit the pillow. I lost consciousness. I don't know how long I was out but when I woke up, I had several texts from my partner with varying levels of concern ...basically just telling me to go to bed earlier tonight so I can get up and have breakfast with them the next day.
Weird... but forgettable.
But that was just how it started.

Because the next day, it was basically the same thing -- stirring in the morning, rustle, rustle, roll roll -- sit up - dog growls - fall back to sleep. When I woke up, I had no texts at all. Shit, she must be really pissed at me. So I texted her right away.

"Hey babe! I'm so, so sorry about that! I don't know what's going on, I swear I came to bed at a normal time."
I sat there stewing for a second. That's when I noticed my dog was sleeping on the floor on the other side of the room.. well, not sleeping. Watching me. A chime from my phone --
"What are you talking about? You got up and we had breakfast together...We did a lot more than that lol. You made me late for work... you just wouldn't stop. It was hot though ;)"
I still remember the mixture of confusion, anger and...jealousy?? that hit me immediately. All the obvious questions hit me and none of them had any reasonable answers. What was going on with me? Was I going into a miniature fugue state?? But what kind of fugue state lasts 2 hours? It fucked with me... hard, that first day. I didn't want to worry her but I knew it was going to be hard to keep it from her.
So I had an idea. I would try recording myself. I've got a small nanny cam from when we had someone dogsit (i know, I know) and I placed it inconspicuously on top of one of our shelves so it would catch my attempt to sit up. I wanted to see if it looked like anything was giving out in my back.. or even how long I stayed asleep. I just had to make it through the night without weirding out my partner too much... which turned out to not be an issue. She was all over me when she got home and, honestly, we tired ourselves out. I meant to do some sort of prep-work or something before the next day but honestly I just passed out.
And when I woke up I had 5 text messages from my partner.. and instead of it being 10 or so in the morning, it was almost 6 in the evening. My chest and body were burning with... scratch marks... all over them. The room was chaos. Bed sheets strewn around and dressers knocked over. I had dried blood all over my shirt and the camera was smashed into fragments against the far wall. I opened the texts.
"Why did you do that to me?"
"I don't know anything about that camera.. I can't believe you would act like such a psycho and not believe a single thing I told you."
"I don't think I can ever trust you again, Stephen. My brother is going to be by later to get my stuff. Don't even ask about Dobie."
The next two were from much later in the day. Tears welled up in my eyes as I felt my world come unglued.
"If you ever come near me again I'm calling the cops. I don't know what's happened to you but you need to seek professional help.. right away. I could barely keep my coworkers from calling the cops on you. What were you even trying to say?? Look I don't even want to know -- you need help."

At this point I was sobbing quietly into my hand. I felt so alone and completely unhinged. My eyes scanned the room for answers or explanations. They came to rest on something, finally, as I read the last text sent 20 minutes ago,

"Stephen... has Alex come by yet? He was supposed to be back an hour ago."

I haven't done very much since reading that text - I don't know what's going to happen next. I don't think I'm very good at hiding bodies.

2023.06.01 23:55 bOnebrOthbrOski Should I get a kidney biopsy for my dog?

My dog (Age: 4 / Breed: Lab/Shepherd mix) had a urine and blood sample come back with raised enzyme levels. As a result, we switch him to a kidney-friendly diet.
We then had an ultrasound performed on him and the vet did not notice any structural damage to the kidneys. She suggests we do a kidney biopsy to see if there are any microscopic issues she did not see.
So my questions are: 1. Is this even worth it considering the high cost and hassle for my dog? 2. Is this a dangerous procedure?

2023.06.01 23:54 twistedracoon [CONTEST] B-B-B-BOOOOOKS (pt6)

WELCOME BACK!!
Greetings folks! It’s that time of month again!!
For those who didn’t catch this the last few months, I’ve decided that I’m going to do a book-themed contest each month this year! This is the JUNE Edition! Sadly, there will not be a July edition, as I will be at ROTC training for almost the entirety of June and July, and won’t have time to hold the contest. Fear not, as it will most certainly resume in August!!
Each month is going to have some sort of theme, and your job is to find a book that relates to the theme of the month, BUT that also encompasses ALL OF the themes of the previous months.
Now this can be as absolutely random and creative as you want. Make connections that wouldn’t hold up anywhere, compare cats to spoons, whatever you want, just figure out how to connect the things together to explain how the book you want is related to them. Of course, this will get more complicated month by month, so you’ll have to get creative! All of the themes must be included for you to qualify! We’re now at 6 (God help us all) so let’s see what you can do!
• • •
This month, make sure your book is around $10. It can be kindle or a physical copy, whatever you want!
THEMES
January - Animal(s) 🦘
February - Cold 🥶
March - Sleep 💤
April - Night ✨

2023.06.01 23:49 tafinney I have questions about feasibility

I’ve been considering RV living for several months now, and would like to ask a question about feasibility of doing it. Since y’all are the experts, I thought I would post my question here.
  1. I am a remote workforce analyst and spend my day sitting in front of computer screens monitoring call volumes for large companies. Are there another analysis that do RVLife and how does it work for them?
  2. Pull behind towing. I know that Jeep’s can be pulled in park (transfer case in neutral) without damage or increased mileage. Can all cars do this? Or would you invest in a trailer?
  3. Opinions on selling or renting out home. Want to get out from under our mortgage as property taxes have increased nearly $2000 in last 2.5 years.
  4. Dogs and cats. Two cats and two dogs will need to go with us. We have a 22 lb Basenji/Corgi mix and an 85 lb Great Pyredoodle. How to larger dogs handle the mobility of living?
  5. Gas or Diesel? Does anyone have a gas/electric hybrid system?
  6. Medical coverage. What kind of Heath insurance do you use? That’s a deal breaker as I have cancer in remission and need testing that I can come back to Atalanta for each December. But how are your in and out of network coverage handled?
Sorry this is long but I’m in the “throw ideas at the wall and see what sticks” process and these are things my wife and I will need to figure out.
TIA

2023.06.01 23:41 chrimen Plank Subfloor over Exposed Beams

We bought a house 2 years ago. House built in 1979. 2nd floor had carpet. Ripped out last weekend. Our goal is to lay down 5" by 3/4" solid oak flooring. We're in Northern NJ so we experience all climates.
There is a 1/2 inch OSB attached to the plank subflooring. The planks run perpendicular to the joists. The twist is that in the first floor under these rooms and hallway we have exposed beams. I realized that the planks we see in the 1st floor ceiling are our 2nd floor subfloor. There are gaps in some of the planks so you can see straight into the rooms from the 1st floor.
I have to tear out the OSB it has dog pics all over it from previous owners.
I'm going to put down 1/2 plywood over the planks. Then 3/4 hardwood on top. I"ve read that I should attach the plywood to the planks and not the joist due to slip between flooring. I have questions on how to best approach this given the subflooceiling arrangement.
Do we level the planks as much as we can by sanding them down?
What other options do I have for leveling knowing the planks are the ceiling on the first floor?
I can't attach the plywood to the subfloor planks otherwise I'd gave nails sticking out all over my ceiling on the first floor. If I attach the plywood to the joists do I need some kind of felt paper between them? What are my options here?
This is all I can think of for now.
Thanks in advance for any advice.
